America Should Spend More on Space Exploration Essay
The United Sates federal government is planning on cutting federal funding for space exploration and
NASA towards the end of the year. The Space Race began in the 1950 s and 1960 s when Russia sent
up the first successful, unmanned satellite named Sputnik in into outer space. The U.S. response was
the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. During this time, the Soviets sent
the first man in to orbit, Yuri Gagarin. Then, in July of 1969, the U.S. took the lead in the race by
sending the first men to the moon on Apollo 11( Space Exploration 1). Ever since then, space
exploration has lead to the discovery of much beneficial information that has allowed us to invent
some of the greatest devices we now use today. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
astronaut residencies were able to work together and exchange and deliver supplies and equipment in
order to further space exploration (Horowitz 2). Mir showed that space exploration is no longer a
competition between nations and helped Americans and Russians develop expertise to build and
maintain the space station. Now, this International Space Station is the largest international space
collaboration of all time. 15 countries have all come together to seek to improve life on Earth and pave
the way for future space exploration. The United States needs to work together with these other
nations so we do not become isolated like in the past, ruining our economy. With the help of these
other nations, the U.S. and NASA can make new discoveries in space that may benefit the way we live
today.
NASA has proven that space exploration is the key to the future. Technologies developed by NASA
have been used in many different areas, from agriculture to computer science. These space related
technologies and scientific knowledge have contributed to high performance computing, robotics,
scratch resistant eyeglass lenses, breast cancer imaging, and satellites that support communication,
navigation, weather observation, and other remote sensing disciplines (Horowitz 2). Have you ever
thought how your life would change if NASA never developed the modern cell phone? The
differences would be noticeable immediately. The main argument against space exploration is that,

The Largest Feast May Not Cure Hunger
The Largest Feast May Not Cure Hunger Ernest Hemingway discusses the theme of hunger
throughout A moveable feast by exploring and describing the different types of hunger that he felt. He
aims to explore this theme in the passage where he strolls with Hadley, and they stop to eat at the
restaurant Michaud s. Through repetition and use of unconventional detail and word choice,
Hemingway shows that he has more than one type of hunger, and needs to differentiate between them.
Hemingway strives to tell that hunger is a feeling that is deep within someone, that changes depending
on the situation and varies in intensity and meaning. In order to stress the various types of hunger that
he felt, Hemingway uses repetition. He uses this device ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemingway described the family s features, yet he does not describe them as well fed people. One
might think that if Joyce has the means to eat regularly in expensive restaurants, his wife would not
eat delicately and he won would not be thin. However, Hemingway chose these descriptions because
eating does not equate to fulfilling every type of hunger. Hemingway also explores whether other
people felt the same kind of hungers in other parts of the novel when he writes, I used to wonder if
[Cézanne] were hungry too when he painted; but I thought possibly he had only forgotten to eat. It
was one of those unsound but illuminating thoughts you have when you have been sleepless or
hungry. Later I thought Cézanne was probably hungry in a different way (Hemingway 69).
Hemingway can relate to Cézanne s feeling because he has felt the same. Being hungry does not
always mean that one has simply not eaten. He showed that Cézanne had a hunger to paint and to
create; this is similar to Hemingway s hunger. Hunger is often unpleasant, yet Hemingway knew that
it could yield effects that were pleasurable, such as the creation of new works. He uses the word

Why The Greeks Influenced Roman Culture
Dear all, This is my homework (let s better call it personal research ) for this unit. I have combined my
interests in archaeology and museum studies, and I have created an interdisciplinary report.
Introduction How is culture transferred from place to place? Cultural transference occurs multi
directionally, because of: the circulation of people (e.g. via warfare and migration), the circulation of
items (e.g. trade), or, other pathways of communication (e.g. diplomacy, dynastic marriages, oral and
written tradition, etc.). In archaeological terminology, the practice of cultural transfer is called
diffusion (Fagan, 1996, p. 175 176). When attempting to examine how much of Roman culture was
Greek in origin, the Greco Roman world can offer a great insight into the way diffusion operates.
Objective and methodology The scope of this report is to investigate how and why the Greeks
influenced Roman culture. To achieve this, I will support my discussion with a set of specific
examples. Lastly, as I have a personal interest in museum studies, I will briefly answer the question:
Was it theft? Did the Romans really loot Greek art, and what for? . Discussion The Roman adoption of
Greek culture and arts started via the Greek colonies sometime c 700 BC; yet it was intensified in the
late Third and Second Millennium BC, when expansion into the Hellenistic world opened Roman eyes
to the hitherto unregarded aspects of the mesmerizing

Stargazing 101 Aries The Ram Analysis
Stargazing 101: Aries the Ram I really hope you have all enjoyed my Stargazing series! These stories
about the constellations and the facts behind them are so incredibly interesting and I ve had such a
wonderful time sharing them with you! The Mythology Aries, a Latin word for ram, is often identified
with the story of the Golden Fleece (which you might remember from the story of Carina, the ship.
http://clapway.com/2015/07/07/stargazing 101 carina the ship/) It s often that we hear about Zeus and
his extra marital affairs, but very rare that we hear of Hera having any. In the story of Aries, Ixion,
King of Lapiths, attempted to woo Hera. Zeus learned of Ixion s intent to make Hera his lover and
declared that his plan would not come to fruition. Zeus coerced a cloud named Nephele to take Hera s
shape and trick Ixion into thinking he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ixion, of course, thought he had succeeded in seducing Hera but quickly found out that he had actually
impregnated Nephele. Ixion was punished for attempting to steal Zeus s wife, and Nephele gave birth
to the first centaur. She later had two more children with Athamas, another king, who tried to have the
children killed. She came to Hera for help in saving them, so Hera sent a golden ram to aid the
children in their escape. Unfortunately, one of the children fell off the ram s back and died, however,
the other survived and made it to safety. Once on the banks of Colchis, the surviving child sacrificed
the ram to Poseidon. Poseidon them instructed him to present the ram s golden fleece to the king of
Aeete, who hung up the fleece in a secret garden where it was protected by a dragon. It was at this
same time, you might recall from Carina the Ship, that Diomedes s land had overthrown him as heir to
his father s throne. Pelias, the man who took Diomede s throne in his absence, is the cousin of the boy
who sacrificed the ram that saved him to the god of the sea. Hera

Cause And Effect Of Natural Disasters
The unexpected is something that can not be prevented. Natural disasters destroy everything in their
way. With the help of technology and how fast it is growing, communities know a natural disaster is
happening within hours or days of its starting. The people that live in that area often know what there
is to come before it actually arrives. They often are encouraged to evacuate as soon as possible. But
how could someone leave behind all their belongings, memories and cherishable items to be swept
away in a storm just like trash? People are too stubborn to listen to the news or weather reports
because they are skeptical. They sometimes may be right however, most of the time they are in the
wrong. These are the types of people who normally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yearly costs make countries go into deep financial debt due to their inability to recover what they lost.
They never recover financially because once they are done recovering from one disaster another one
hits and it becomes a never ending cycle of trying to help one another recover. In the same article,
Tudor points out that, One of the major negative effects is that there is a reduction of tourism (Tudor).
People are too frightened to visit because they are constantly in fear that another natural disaster may
hit. Many countries rely on tourism to help their economy because of the money they spend in hotels
and food and etc. Tourism also helps to bring in other people into the country to thus help the national
government and the population as a whole. Without tourism the future generations are afflicted down
to a personal level with which the people already living there are going to most likely stay there,
keeping the gross domestic product at a progressively decreasing rate. After the Thai floods, there was
a significant shortage of computer hard drives that sent consumer prices skyrocketing until factories
were able to come back online ( The Impact of Natural Disasters on the Global Economy ). The
damage from the disaster is not only local countries from a far feel the effects of the disaster as well.
Plenty of supplies and stuff is foreign and imported to different countries, they as well feel the effects
of the disaster. They

Sun Tzu Theory In The Horn Of Africa
Sun Tzu s Theory in the Horn of Africa s Security Challenge
Introduction
The greater Horn of Africa (HoA) is the sub region of the Eastern part of Africa that composed of
Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda. Threats to peace and
security are interconnected and comprised various human insecurities that emanate from both
intrastate and interstate conflict, and transnational security threats such as terrorism. This is because
political, social, and security problems in the region further threaten development efforts and
complicate interventions to alleviate, the various related challenges of the region. Mainly, Terrorism
has been a source of serious security challenge to the Horn of Africa peace and development process.
As terrorism is the main security challenge of the Horn of Africa region, Sun Tzu s theory is relevant
in the war with terrorist organizations operated in the greater Horn of Africa. For these countries could
helpful in curbing the terrorist threat, if they examine Sun Tzu s theory offensive strategy according to
the existing context of the terrorist threat. The offensive strategy first should focus on attacking the
terrorist s strategy, and then their allies because the main strength of the terrorist is the strategy they
follow. Giving priority on attacking the terrorist s strategy would eliminate fertile ground for terrorist
organizations motive. Therefore, this paper will evaluate, and analyze Sun Tzu s theory such

Socrates And Good Brahmin s View On Philosophy
A comparison of both Socrates and the Good Brahmin s attitudes and my view on philosophy
Dr. James Frey
University of the People Introduction
Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence,
knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. (Wiki, n.d.). For years there have been philosophers
of this earth who seek to answer these fundamental questions and come up with varying views on
these vital questions. For this assignment I will compare and contrast the philosophical views of
Socrates Apology and Allegory of the Caves and Voltaire Good Brahmin s along with my own view
on Philosophy.

I am one to questioning and dig deeper. I learn based on my experiences and not merely based on what
I have been told. I like explorations, I hate living in caves, I love seeing the light for myself. True
happiness for me is not an illusion, but rather facing the harsh realities of the world that I live in.
Finally I do concur with Socrates when he said the unexamined life is not worth living (Goodreads

Summary Of The Glass Menagerie
In the reading of The Glass Menagerie, we see how Laura, Tom, Jim O Conner, and Amanda are
trying to escape his or her situation. In this final paper we will see how they were trapped, and what
they done to be released from their caged life. You will see how Amanda lives in the past, Laura lives
in her own little world, Tom is living for the present and looking for the best way out, and Jim O
Conner is trying to become someone famous..
Have you ever felt like a caged bird? I have! When I lived at home I had a very strict father. Every
scenario went through my mind on how I could get out of my dad s house. Just like me, the characters
in this play felt the same way. Amanda, a nagging mother, who wants the best for her children, Laura
is in her own world, Tom wants to be free, and Jim O Connor who was trying to better himself. These
are the characters in the play try to escape their reality in many different ways. Amanda, a mother of
two, lives in a house in St. Louis. She only wants the best for her children, but she is an overbearing
parent. She holds splendid qualities but her personality is of a difficult obstacle to sympathize
(Fambrough, Preston) 2005. She would even take on a job of selling subscriptions of the Home maker
s Companion, so she could get extra money to help support the family. She was married to a man who
fell in love with long distances, and the last time she had heard from him was on a postcard that said

Information, may feel is the most important resource any firm has, yet many firms have no
appreciation of the cost, value or importance of the information they hold. By first outlining the steps
and findings of an information audit carried out within the firm, conclusions are then drawn as to what
measures should be taken in order to increase the effectiveness of Lanways information usage. The
measures suggested are outlined in detail, with recommendations of both hardware and software. The

Every departmental manager within Lanway classed the internet within their three most important
resources. This in itself shows the importance of the role it plays in today s business market. For firms
such as Lanway, it is the fastest and most efficient way of obtaining up to the date and accurate (in the
most part) information and offers the best cost/benefit trade off. However the internet brings with it,
from an informational view point, a host of inherent problems and issues. Lanway, like many other
firms suffers from this. In most cases, staff were unaware of many of these, and as such the quality of
information suffered. The accuracy of the information received is on the most part never checked, and
in some cases was then stored to be used for future reference. No guidelines exist as to whether only
official websites were to be used, nor had any training be given on effectively using the internet itself.
No one information store was available, in which staff could save data collected, such as URL s or
product catalogue s, and in some cases, staff were not aware extranet facilities existed. As such, each
individual employee held their own specific ideas and information on using the internet and in many
cases time was wasted performing repetitive tasks and retrieving duplicate information. Once again,
because the sharing of information was minimal, the speed and accuracy of

A Brief Note On Causation And Remoteness Within The Common...
ASSESSMENT A: Problem Question Introduction I will advise each subsequent claimant with
regards to any actions they might have when focusing on issues of causation and remoteness within
the common law tort of negligence. Chico s case Issue Whether employers X, Y and Z are liable in
negligence for Chico s injury because they exposed him to asbestos. Relevant Law Causation
Fairchild Barker Compensation Act 2006 s.3 Application In most cases the but for test is the method
used for establishing factual causation. But for the defendant s wrongdoing, the claimant would not
have suffered damage. However, causation becomes problematic when more than one cause arises,
since the onus is upon the claimant to establish which party caused their injury or loss. The material
elements test is crucial to cases relating to mesothelioma. A claimant suffering injury must
demonstrate on the balance of probabilities that the defendant s tort caused the injury or loss. The
claimant must then demonstrate that there is more than a fifty percent likelihood of the cause being the
breach of duty of the defendant. If there are multiple causes then the burden of proof is impossible to
discharge. This has often left claimants uncompensated for an obvious breach of duty. In Fairchild the
House of Lords recognised that in situations wherein the claimant had been exposed to asbestos at
different times whilst working for different employers, it was impossible to satisfy the conventional

Least Dangerous Assumption
Education and life skill ideas have shifted in the recent past regarding students with learning
disabilities for the better of the students. Students are now being viewed as individuals and not just a
disability. Educators are now teaching with the assumption that the student is teachable instead of not
teaching knowing the student has a disability. The second scenario in the article The Least Dangerous
Assumption is now the norm in the educational world, at my school specifically, our motto is simple,
How will the choice I make today benefit my student tomorrow? Educators are changing the way they
approach students so that the last dangerous is not the core thought in every detail. I believe that every

Can you imagine if the educators in Helen Keller s life just gave up because her world was dark and
silent? Educators need to set IEP goals for each student, but this does not limit their learning to an IEP.
A recent example in my school was a student in my class who no one felt could ever walk in the hall
without having his hand held, his stemming was controlling his ability to focus and so he would easily
be distracted and get lost. I accepted the challenge as he entered my room the first day and greeted
him with a smile and a plan. My original plan quickly failed but what I found was I never gave up on
him and he made progress. This same student, a year later will still stem if his hands are free but when
he holds his clipboard, he is able to stay focused on the task. He needed me to not give up and to try
new ideas until we found what worked for him. Instructional strategies played a key role in the
outcome for this student. Instructional strategies are vital to being able to figure out what works best
for each unique lesson, student, and objective. Often I find the more come instructional strategies are

Essay The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Movies are constantly created by producers and writers to convey a particular meaning to their
audience they are reaching out too. The meaning can be interpreted in several ways. For example, one
can understand the meaning that was intended by the creators, or it could be an individual s own
understanding of a storyline in the movie. As a movie can be viewed through different perspectives, a
dominant male named Louis Althusser created the theory of Interpellation and the Role of ISAs and
RSAs to help further understand movies. Althusser s theory explains that people in power will remain
in power and others will be controlled by those in power (Hartt Fournier, Lecture 2). Furthermore, the

Louis Althusser stated the whole of the political class struggle revolved around the state, (Althusser,
1970) which is clearly evident in this film because the capitol regulates society through a dictatorship
rather than a democratic system. This shows that the 12 districts, a class of struggle, always obey and
fear the government and do as they are told. Also, the capitol holds an annual brutal game known as
The Hunger Games, where one female and one male are chosen from each district to fight to the death
and the sole survivor being deemed the winner. As the civilians fear the government, the protagonist
and Gale Hawthorne (a close friend) converse about running away from the capitol. Despite Gale s
insistence Katniss states she would never run away because she is afraid of being caught by the capitol
(USA, dir.Gary Ross, 2012). This depicts that they urge to rebel against the government, but are too
afraid of the consequences of getting caught. Furthermore, when Rue from district 11 is killed in the
game the residents of district 11creat a riot and attempt to rebel against the government. However, the
civilians are being controlled by the army RSA, the people in white suites, and are using abusive
power to stop them. This shows they have power against the class of struggle as stated by Louis
Althusser. Lastly, the state first changed the rule so that there can be two winners as

Essay on Bio Warfare
Biological warfare is war waged with deadly chemicals, biological agents, or radioactive materials
(CBR). They can be used to kill large amounts of people, destroy food, or just temporarily stun them
for a matter of time so troops can come in and torture them or do whatever troops led by an
manipulative tyrant who destroys everything. Using CBR, allowed you to kill everything and leave the
buildings standing instead of nuclear weapons which destroy everything, put fallout in the air, and
have radioactive materials wash into the ground and streams. Using deadly chemicals in war has been

The Hague Conference of 1899 made an attempt to outlaw projectiles carrying poison gases; the
agreement to this effect lasted only until W.W.I. In Geneva in 1925 a League of Nations protocol
against chemical and biological war was signed; it was not, however, ratified by the United States
until 1975. The treaty outlaws the first use of such weapons in warfare, but nations generally reserve
the right to use them in retaliation. Agreements totally banning chemical warfare have proved difficult
to achieve. A treaty totally banning biological warfare was drawn up by the Geneva Disarmament
Conference in 1971 and approved by the United Nations General Assembly. Some 80 nations signed
the Biological Weapons Convention, which the United States ratified in 1974. This treaty is unique
because it outlaws a whole class of weapons by most of the world. Its effectiveness, however, is still
questionable; progress in genetic engineering has also complicated this issue. At the Bush Gorbachev
summit in June 1990, a treaty was signed providing for both the United States and USSR to reduce
stockpiles of chemical weapons. In May 1991, 19 industrial nations including the United States
commited to adopt controls on the export of 50 common chemicals used to manufacture these
weapons. Anthrax is a contagious disease of warm blooded animals, including humans, caused by the

main views on this millennial reign they are Amillennial, Postmillennial, and Premillennial. While
there is much debate over the differences, all three views believe that Jesus is coming again, that there
will be a physical resurrection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The classical postmillennial view sees the millennium as a near future event. The modern
postmillennial view sees us as currently in the millennium. The postmillennial millennium may be an
actual or symbolic (long time) thousand years. Both see that by spreading the gospel, the church will
cause the world to continuously improve till the entire world comes to Christ. The conclusion of the
millennium will be the second coming of Jesus Christ and the defeat of the Devil. The view that the
church needs to continue spread the gospel and should except Christ to return at any time is correct.
As for the world continuing to improve it would seem to this author that the world is currently going
in the wrong direction. Gay and lesbian marriage has been legalized, abortion has been legalized, and
President Obama has said that we are not a Christian country. The Olivet Discourse (Matt 24; MK 13;
LK 21) does not lead one to see peace on earth before the return of Christ. It actually teaches the
opposite. How can we have the millennial reign of Christ and have false messiahs and prophets, wars,
famines, pestilence, persecution, and earthquakes? The postmillennial view requires that we ignore the
world s current state, and constrain the Olivet Discourse to the Jews of that time and the end of the
world as they knew

Analysis Of I Am Sam
The movie, I Am Sam is about a single father who has a developmental disability and who has an IQ
of a seven year old who wants and tries to take care of his baby daughter. He had his daughter, Lucy
with a homeless woman and she left Sam just after she had her. There are some complications and
then he loses her through court because people convince him he could not give her the love she
deserved. The article online and the movie were the same. In many people s opinion, books are better
than the movies but I feel the opposite way. I like to watch the movies and see all the emotion and
drama visually and not comprehensively. The lesson or purpose of the movie is to have people learn or
to teach people that all people need is love. It is also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Audiologists mainly work with individuals who have balance, hearing, or other ear problems. They try
and diagnose what the individual has and both professions will have the individuals have
appointments with them to see if they can help them out in any way they can. Personally, I loved the
movie, I Am Sam. I loved how it portrayed someone who has developmental disabilities and what
some issues they run into in their life. I liked how dramatic and emotional the movie was. When a
movie is emotional like this one, it makes the audience pay attention more and wonder what happens
in the end so it makes them finish the movie or book. I liked how it showed the problems or issues
Sam had trying to take care of Lucy. It broke my heart when she said, she did not want to read the
word because her dad could not read it. She did not want to be smarter than her father which I thought
was amazing. The director did a fantastic job writing this film. All of the points he wanted to get to the
audience, I feel did. The actor, Sean Paul, did a wonderful job impersonating someone with a
developmental disability. The director s goal was to have people that were his targeted audience, try
and think about what they take for granted and show that people need love and support just as much as
anyone else that is important to them. People never know what other stories other people have and are
going through. It is always nice to be kind and to be a supportive human being. There were a couple

INTRODUCTION
Dallas Willard wrote in the foreword of this book, James Wilhoit has written a book of special urgency
for our times.(9) In this writer s opinion, that was an understatement. Some books you read for school,

Wilhoit, while teaching and having dialogue with his students pertaining to their spirituality formative
influences which lead to conducting interviews with a number of church leaders, he realized, through
these stories and interviews there has been a sea of change in our formational structures and their
effects will take a generation to fully manifest themselves.(13) This establishes the basis for writing
this book, to make a call to intentionality about our formation and to repentance about how we have
tried to engineer formation more than we have prayerfully opened our lives and our churches to God s
grace(14) . The book consist of ten chapters, which can be broken down into two parts the
establishment of the foundational structure of spiritual formation, chapters 1 2, and the four pillars that
support spiritual formation, in which he calls the four R s Receiving, Remembering, Responding and
Relating, chapters 3 10. Wilhoit then further breaks these four pillars into two parts. Part A describes
and explains the foundation of the R ; Part B then expounds on how to foster the pillar into the life of
the individual and the church. He then moves on to the next pillar. Throughout the book the reader
will find 12, what Wilhoit call, Community Spiritual Formation Corollary or main take always from

The Effectiveness of Deep-Breathing Exercises After...
The purpose of this evidence based nursing practice paper is to discuss the effectiveness of deep
breathing exercises in the care of a patient who is recently postoperative a coronary artery bypass graft
surgery (CABG). It will also critique two professional research studies on this topic, and will answer
three essential questions about each study. What are the results of the study? Are the results of the
study valid? How are the findings clinically relevant to this patient? The patient, who will be referred
to as Mr. Doe throughout this paper, is a 58 year old male with coronary artery disease. His medical
history includes angina, shortness of breath, diabetes type II, as well as hypercholesterolemia. He was
scheduled for a CABG ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two studies that will be critiqued are over the effectiveness of deep breathing exercises in
reducing postoperative pulmonary complications after CABG surgery. Study #1 showed that patients
performing deep breathing exercises after CABG surgery had significantly smaller atelectatic areas
and better pulmonary function on the fourth postoperative day compared to a control group
performing no exercises, (Westerdahl, Lindmark, Eriksson, Friberg, Hedenstierna, Tenling, 2005). .
This study began with 115 patients that were all undergoing CABG surgery at a university hospital
and were randomized to a deep breathing group that performed deep breathing exercises
postoperatively and to a control group that performed no breathing exercises, (Westerdahl, Lindmark,
Eriksson, Friberg, Hedenstierna, Tenling, 2005). Of the 115 patients in study #1, 23 were excluded for
various reasons, leaving a total of 90 patients participating. This study was a well controlled
randomized controlled trial conducted at one site with fewer than 100 patients, and according to this
information, the study is valid, and the use of deep breathing exercises in reducing pulmonary
complications postoperatively is likely to be effective. According to this study, Mr. Doe would benefit
from performing deep breathing exercises because he is a postoperative CABG patient, and the study
showed that performing these improved pulmonary

The Genesis Of American Baptists
The Genesis of American Baptists
The American Baptist Movement came from England in the 17th century, after the Baptists were
persecuted by the Church of England for being dissenting separatists. In the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, new members were converted and congregations were formed by Baptist preachers who
traveled throughout the South, in particular during the eras of the First and Second Great Awakenings.
The Triennial Convention
The Triennial Convention was formed in 1814, when American Baptists unified nationally. The
convention met every three years and was based in Philadelphia. The Home Mission Society was
started in 1832. It was affiliated with the Triennial Convention, and existed to support missions in the
United States, particularly in the frontier territories. In spite of this unity in mission among American
Baptists, by the middle of the nineteenth century, there were several social, cultural, economic, and
political differences becoming apparent among Northern business, Western farmers, and Southern
planters.
Conflict and Separation
In 1844, there was great division over the issue of slavery. The Baptists of the South felt that the
Northerners position that slaveholding brethren were less than followers of Jesus effectively obliged
slaveholding Southerners to leave the fellowship . There was also disagreement between the
Northerners and Southerners over the number of missionaries being supported and sent to the South
(probably because of

Seeing With The Eyes Or The Brain
Seeing with the eyes or the brain: What goes wrong in common eye conditions?
There are many parts of the eye which work in unison in order to detect certain stimuli. For example,
the photoreceptors are split into two categories; the rods and the cones (named due to the shape of the
cell). In the retina there are 120 million rods that help your eyes to adjust to dimly lit images or, in
other words, allow you to see better in dark places. They are also highly sensitive in comparison to
cones and have a slow recovery from working in such conditions.
In contrast, the cones are located in the fovea and, although there are less cones than rods (only 6
million), they take up the majority of the central fovea. The cones detect a very different stimulus to
the rods as their primary function is to detect different colours in the images observed by the eyes. It
does this by using a protein named photopsin whereas the rods use rhodopsin. The cones also are also
a lot less sensitive than the rods and have a shorter integration time (faster recovery from conditions in
which they are needed to work).
Another main part of the eye which helps us to detect stimuli is the lens. The main function of the lens
is to focus light onto the retina so that it can send electrical impulses to the brain and it can make sense
of what it is seeing. Moreover, the pupil and the cornea both work together to allow the light to enter
the eye whereas the iris controls how much light enters the eye by changes

Throughout this story, there are many heroes displayed in the film, but just a few of them are more
influential. One of them is Frodo, seen as a small, curious, thoughtful, observant, without any special
abilities, and unfailingly polite hobbit. However, what makes him a really important and unique hero
is his bravery. One example of this, is when he said: I will take it...I will take it...I will take the Ring to
Mordor (Tolkien 80). In fact, at the beginning of the story, Frodo did not display any hero qualities.
But that changes over time. This change is really impressive because he does not consider himself a
hero, but the job must be done. In fact, his determination to do his best and his bravery are the keys to
be successful in his mission. However, Frodo is not like the other heroes because: Frodo, as a hero in
his own right, displays slightly less helpless hero worship for Aragorn than do the others, though while
Aragorn is with them, he bows to his judgment (biography

Analysis of William Wordsworth s Poem We Are Seven Essay
Analysis of William Wordsworth s Poem We Are Seven
William Wordsworth s poem, We are Seven, is about a person talking to a young girl about her and her
six siblings. Throughout the poem, the narrator gave the young girl a very difficult time when she
persisted that simply because not all seven children were home together, or alive, they were still
seven. The narrator was giving the young girl a hard time because he wanted her to remember and
understand that just because she and her siblings are separated does not make them any less siblings.
Wordsworth says that two of the seven siblings are at Conway. In what way would two siblings being
far from home make them be considered not siblings? Would that not be like saying to a ... Show more

In the poem, the little girl says, Two of us in the church yard lie, / My sister and my brother; (Lines 21
22). Insisting that they are still seven, the young girl shows a lot of grace and mature understanding.
This is the majority of the poem because the narrator thinks it is most important that the young girl
understands she has still has five siblings, despite two of them have passed and, their graves are green,
they may be seen (Line 37). The girl is only eight years of age and she understands that her deceased
siblings are still her siblings even though they are not still living. Making sure she understands she
still has five siblings is exactly what the narrator s goal is, but the narrator is pretending to believe
they are only five. The narrator reinforces his belief in lines 35 36: If two are in the church yard laid,/
Then ye are only five. The conversation resurfaces later in the poem, in lines 61 64: How many are
you, then, said I,/ If they two are in heaven?/ Quick was the little Maid s reply,/ O Master! We are
seven. No matter what is said by the narrator, the eight year old girl insists that they are seven. Two
siblings being dead is the most reinforced because the narrator and the little girl know that her siblings
at Conway or at sea are anticipated to return home sometime. The other two, the deceased two, will
never return home.
The small gal lightly touches on two of her other siblings who are

My Problems In My Life
They say, Life s a journey with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to
enjoy. We go through a lot of things in this journey, sometimes having cheerful moments, however,
sometimes with very melancholy times, It is all about learning new stuffs and applying it to our daily
basis. Being a 14 year old girl, I ve had quite a bit of problems in my journey; one of the most
heartbreaking and distressed moment in my life was when i had to go through anxiety. Generally
speaking, being a kindergartner and not knowing what anxiety is totally normal. In fact, I was the
exact same; I barely knew what anxiety was when I was a kid. To being with, kindergarten was a long

I was a tomboy, a girl with short hair, who used to wear pants and shirts with marvel character logos.
But the girls were way different, they were girly girls with long beautiful hair who wore pretty dresses
and clothes. That must have been the main difference between them and me. I tried to introduce

While sabotaging the city he was able to sneak through its gates undetected and set fire to the bridge s

Matthew Dodd include proper concealment, guerrilla warfare like maneuvers, keeping a safe distance
from enemy forces, absolute military bearing, and choosing your targets wisely, as well as, knowing
when to fire at those targets. Furthermore, Dodd was very successful with remaining undetected at
opportune moments, as well as, knowing exactly when to increase the distance from the enemy. What
impressed me most was his ability to successfully communicate with allied forces who didn t
necessarily speak his language. He used hand and arm signals to pantomime and gesture what it was

Leadership lessons learned from this book: Dodd, as well as the French, possessed some good

Brain And Long-Term Memory Essay
I am invited over to my best friend s house for pizza and a friendly game of cards. While doing so,
multiple parts of the brain are being used such as Broca s area, the hippocampus, the hypothalamus,
and the occipital lobe. Broca s area is the region of the brain that contains motor neurons that play a
part in controlling speech. The hippocampus is involved in learning and memory. They hypothalamus
regulates the amount of hunger we contain. Whereas, the occipital lobe contains the visual centers of
the brain and plays a role with all the aspects. When I first arrive to my friend s house, I will be
conversing with everyone there. This is where the Broca area will become involved. The Broca area is
located in the frontal part of the left hemisphere of the brain which serves a vital role in our speech. In

The hippocampus is located in the brain s medial temporal lobe, near the center of the brain. This part
of the brain is involved with the storage of long term memory. Therefore, when I have begun to

form immediate and long term memories of that evening. After a while of socializing, my friends and I
will begin to feel hungry. This is the point in which the hypothalamus becomes involved. It is located
below the thalamus and right above the brain stem. One of the main purposes of the hypothalamus is
to control our food and water intake as well as hunger and thirst. Accordingly, this is the part of the
brain that is responsible for letting us know when everyone is hungry or full. So, when the pizza

Who Is Heracles A Hero
Heracles, son of Zeus and Alcemena was a strong baby ever since he was born. His stepmother, Hera,

Hercules being the tough baby he was, killed the snakes by choking them. Later on Heracles asked
king Eurystheus to make him immortal so that he can clear his sins. So heracles had to do some labor,
that in my opinion did not make him a hero. Because when he was doing his 3rd labor heracles knew

`A thing of beauty is a joy forever`. How far and in what ways does Keats communicate this belief in
his odes. Emotion was the key element of any Romantic poet, the intensity of which is present in all of
Keats poems. Keats openly expressed feelings ignoring stylistic rules which suppressed other poets.
Keat #8217;s poems display a therapeutic experience, as many of his Odes show a sense of struggle to

assumptions of the poem by introducing a melancholic mood. The `melodious plot #8217; is
emphasised through the rhythm of the poem and the extended use of vowel sounds prior to the
`melodious plot. The repetition of `happy #8217; is almost a forceful emphasis to cancel the earlier
negatives. Keat #8217;s distinguished use of paradoxes, is evident here too: ` `tis not through envy of
thy happy lot, But being too happy in thine happiness #8217;. Keats has found joy in the innocence of
the nightingale, who `among the leaves hast never known, the weariness, the fever and the fret here,
where men sit and hear each other groan #8217;. The bird is oblivious to the pain and death. The
nightingale #8217;s song has been heard by himself #8216;emperor and clown #8217; and also by the
biblical #8216;Ruth #8217;, the beauty, its song has mesmerised and

Three Dialogue Between Hylas Analysis
In Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley strains the link between the physics and
metaphysics in may ways that all are connected through the first two dialogues. It is explained that
they argue that the same object can appear to have different characteristics depending on the observer
s perspective. Since objective features of objects cannot change without an inherent change in the
object itself, shape must not be an objective feature. Berkeley attempts to show that believing in mind
independent matter leads to foolishness and skepticism. Berkeley also invites us to accept instead the
ideology of idealism going into materialism, where the only things that exist are minds and ideas that
lead to materialism. Philonous, the spokesperson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should first note that materialism is here used to mean that material things exist . Berkeley
contends that no material things exist, not just that some non material things exist there is no such
thing as philosophers call a material substance (55). Part of Berkeley s attack on matter is to argue that
this question cannot be answered by the materialists, and that they cannot characterize their supposed
material things. However, an answer that captures what exactly it is that Berkeley rejects is that
material things are mind independent things or substances. Philonous concept on material substance is
not how we think of it today. It is the metaphysical substratum imperceptible underlying bare
particular entity to which all sensible qualities somehow attach (55). What he means by this simply is
that your senses are somewhat attached to what we perceive is a material

Effects of Electronic Usage on Perceived and Actual Quality of Sleep
Melanie Poole
Kent State University
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between use of electronic devices during
resting and sleep hours, and quality of sleep as measured by self report and polysomnography. Fifty
participants will be asked to individually spend three consecutive nights in a sleep laboratory, and to
go about their nightly routines while attached to a polysomnograph. Participants will be asked to bring
in personal electronics to use during the study, and they will be provided with wifi and satellite or
cable access. Additionally, they will be asked to bring anything that would make them feel as at home

Also, that the findings of the self report measures of sleep quality will extend to biophysiological
indicators of sleep quality.
Effects of Electronic Usage on Quality of Sleep
Sleep is a necessity of every living person. Adequate sleep ensures an individual s ability to function
throughout the following day, both physically and mentally, and it is an essential contributing factor to
the overall health of a person (National Sleep Foundation, 2014). Consistent inadequate sleep and
what predicts it is a major concern that is often addressed by physicians and sleep specialists. Of
particular interest in this increasingly techno centric world are the effects that regular use of personal
electronic devices might have on the odds of obtaining sufficient sleep. A new study (Vallance,
Buman, Stevinson, Lynch, 2015) found that individuals with the most screen time had significantly
higher odds of reporting sleep problems to their doctors, as well as having trouble falling asleep,
waking during the night, and having trouble going back to sleep. The purpose of this proposal is to
explore whether or not the effect of technology on perceived sleep disturbances and sleep quality is
supported by objective physiological indicators. Technology is undoubtedly becoming an increasingly
integral part of everyday modern life. From morning until night, individuals are constantly plugged in
via televisions, phones, computers,

The Artwork of Arles Bust
The artwork I ve chosen is the Arles bust . It s a sculpture showing allegedly Julius Caesar. The only
part found in the Rhone River, near Arles, is the bust. It has no title but we often refers to him under
the name of Arles bust . Its dimension are life size. The category it belongs to is spatial arts. The
author is unknown and will probably never be found : back to the Ancient Rome, sculptors were rarely
known. According to the facts that it s supposed to be the only representation of Caesar during his
lifetime, and that Arles became a Roman colony in 49 BC, we can suppose that this sculpture was
realized between 49 BC and 44 BC (because he was killed in 44 BC). The commissioner was probably
Caesar himself, or someone close to him : during the Ancient Rome, wealthy admirers of politicians
often paid for those kind of gift (which were quite expensive). It can also be a part of his family :
sculptures were also a way for the descendants of aristocratic family to show their ancestors. This
sculpture was discovered by the French Department of Subaquatic Archaeological Research in 2007,
with about 700 other artifacts from the Ancient Rome. It was on view in the exhibition César, le
Rhone pour mémoire , along with the other discoveries.
In this part of the sculpture, we see Caesar, without a nose and with an already important hair loss that
he hid, as Suetonius reports, by bringing his hair o the front of his head. Because it s supposed to be
the oldest representation of

$5000/year Machine costs $35.000 Expected to last for 15 years Cost of capital 12% A. payback?,
NPV?, IRR? Payback: The amount of time required for a firm to recover its initial investment. by
dividing the initial investment by the annual cash inflow. In our case $35.000/$5000= 7years NPV:
Investment the PV of its cash inflows discounted at a rate( the firm s cost of capital) NPV= $35.000
$34.054= $946 so NPV less than $0, the project rejected IRR: discount rate, with IRR the NPV=0
IRR= 11,49% IRR less than the cost of capital (12%), we reject the project. B. payback?, NPV?, IRR?
Payback: In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With $11.3 million outstanding common stock shares, the resulting loss in shareholder profits is
$599M. Comparing this to the NPV of $584M for the planned production (210 units), it is feasible to
see that the shareholders bear the brunt of poor management decisions in project selection 3. Question
MBAT (A) With no subsidy the current NPV (with r=25%) is $122,101 (The IRR is 18%). Many ways
to subsidize but subsidy must have a discounted value of $122,101 at a discount rate of 25% for IRR =
25%. Pay $122,101 today or pay $298,099 = $122,101 x (1.25)4 four years from now. Both will give
project an IRR of 25%. Note that the interest rate for the city is 20%. If they invested 122,101 today at
20% they wouldn t be able to get the $298,099 at the end of four years. Best is make payment of
$122,101 today (B) Subsidize the project for two year payback For two year payback must get $1
million in cash flow and subsidies within the next two years. Amount of required subsidy is $1 million
2x$371,739 = $256,522. Best for city to wait until the end of year two to pay this to the firm. PV is
$256,522/(1.20)2 = $178,140 (C) Subsidize the project so the NPV is $75,000 and r = 20%.
Unsubsidized cash flows have NPV of $37,666. Difference is $112,666. Can pay today or spread out
over 4 years. Doesn t matter, because r=20%. For example could pay $233,624 in year 4. Same as
$112,666 today (D) In first case:

Heterophile Isolation Lab Report
Heterophile isolation
Polymorphonuclear heterophils were isolated from normal chicken using a modification of previously
described procedures(Andreasen et al., 1991; Brooks et al., 1996). In brife ,whole venous blood was
collected in sodium citrate (0.129 M; pH 6.5; 9:1,v/v). The blood was diluted in RPMI 1640 (1:1) on a
Ficoll Hypaq gradient . After centrifugation at 400 g for 30 minutes, the plasma and the mononuclear
cell layer were removed, and contaminant erythrocytes were removed by hypotonic lysis. Hetrophils
were counted in a Neuber chamber, and the viability of the cells was determined by Trypan blue dye
exclusion. Purity of live neutrophils was 94% following this procedure. Phagocytosis and killing of
opsonized bacteria by heterophils
Phagocytosis and killing of opsonized bacteri were checked by a colorimetric assay according to
previously described procedures with some modifications (Fijalkowski et al., 2012; Mehrzad et al.,
2009). This experiments wre run in triplicate for each isolated E coli. Brifly, each isolated E coli was
opsonized with 10% pooled avian serum for 30 min. The test tube (T) was containe the same volume
(500 µL) of heterophiles and opsonized E coli. Test tube was rotated end over end at 37 °C for 90 min
. The ratio of E coli to hetrophil was 10/1.Control samples (C) contained opsonized E coli, without

The Four Dimensions Of Cultural Values
Understanding the differences and similarities inherent in other cultures may provide opportunities
when working with individuals (or groups) who may have very different or similar cultural values.
Through the work of many people, more is known about other cultures values than perhaps ever
before. Geert Hofstede is one of these people, and his work has allowed for a greater understanding of
cultural values across a wide range of dimensions. His work has grown from four dimensions to six,
and as more information is gathered this will perhaps increase as well. In the first section, the first four
dimensions of cultural values will be discussed briefly. Next, all six dimensions will be given for the
United States (US) and Japan, and will be considered according to the highest and lowest differences
between dimensions of these two countries cultural values. In addition, considerations for applying
motivational theories toward individuals from these two countries will also be discussed. Lastly, a
single dimension will be selected for each country and a recommendation given accordingly that could
help improve performance.
Four Dimensions of Cultural Values Latham (2012) outlines four of the broad categories of Hofstede s
cultural dimensions, including low high power distance, individualism collectivism, masculinity
femininity, and uncertainty avoidance, which will be discussed here. Power distance can be thought of
as the extent in which members of a culture accept inequality

Gender, Gender And The Media
This book was written in a clear style with lots of instances from Anglo American media, Gender and
the Media. It provides a critical introduction to the study of gender in the media and updated
assessment of the crucial issues and debates. The book looks in detail at five kinds of media: news,
advertising, talk shows, magazines and contemporary screen and paperback romances. It is examined
how presentations of female and male are changing in recent years. Gill asks how useful nations such
as objectification, backlash and positive images are for making sense of gender in today s western
media.
Gender and the Media asks some of the significant terminology that have been used to study gender in
media texts, since scholars and activists first engaged with media representations of gender. This book
aims to explore how the media today construct femininity, masculinity and gender relations.
Digital media and gender are different topics, but they have close connection in society. Digital media
is one of the main types of media, it can be created, viewed, distributed, modified on digital
electronics devices. It plays a significant role in society and culture, and also it can cause dramatic
influences on human s lives. Gender is usually seen as a socially determined difference based upon the
biological differences between the sex. These representations of media can influence the general
public s perception of the different genders. Sexting is a prevalent hot spot in recent years

Examples Of Eulogy In Coretta s Funeral
Coretta Scott King was an activist who had a major impact on those around her. For Coretta s funeral,
her sister, Maya Angelou wrote Coretta s eulogy. The eulogy first mentions Coretta s passion as a
peaceful activist who wanted to right the wrongs in the world. The eulogy progresses by explaining
her background as an African American woman who was born in a small town and loved everyone and
everything no matter their difference in this world. Maya then describes her experiences of
exchanging phone calls, letters, and flowers with Coretta because they were not able to see each other
frequently. The eulogy ends with Maya and Coretta agreeing that Peace and justice should belong to
all people, everywhere, all the time (Angelou, n.d., para. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also used humor to put the audience at ease. First, Maya tells the audience that Coretta loved her
church, family, friends, and race. She also cared about the sexual orientation of others, the condition of
humans, and the struggles in the world (Angelou, n.d., para. 7). This appeals to the audience s
emotions because those topics are very controversial and cause many people to end friendships, but
not for Coretta. Maya also appeals to the audience when she talks about sending flowers and cards
because they rarely saw each other. This affected the audience because many people in the audience
know how that feels. Another way that Maya appeals to the audience through pathos is using humor
that will help the audience relax. First, Maya told the audience that they would call each other girl
because it was a black woman thing to do, she told the audience that in their 70th decade they still said
it (Angelou, n.d., para. 9). Maya also brings humor into the argument when she told the audience that
she would tell her sister jokes that were not meant for the presence of anyone but the two of them
(Angelou, n.d., para. 11). The reason Maya used humor in her argument is simply the fact that it is
hard to say no when you are laughing. Using humor helped the audience to relax and be more
understanding which made it easier for Maya to offer her proposal that others need to follow in

  • 2. America Should Spend More on Space Exploration Essay The United Sates federal government is planning on cutting federal funding for space exploration and NASA towards the end of the year. The Space Race began in the 1950 s and 1960 s when Russia sent up the first successful, unmanned satellite named Sputnik in into outer space. The U.S. response was the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. During this time, the Soviets sent the first man in to orbit, Yuri Gagarin. Then, in July of 1969, the U.S. took the lead in the race by sending the first men to the moon on Apollo 11( Space Exploration 1). Ever since then, space exploration has lead to the discovery of much beneficial information that has allowed us to invent some of the greatest devices we now use today. The ... Mir showed that space exploration is no longer a competition between nations and helped Americans and Russians develop expertise to build and maintain the space station. Now, this International Space Station is the largest international space collaboration of all time. 15 countries have all come together to seek to improve life on Earth and pave the way for future space exploration. The United States needs to work together with these other nations so we do not become isolated like in the past, ruining our economy. With the help of these other nations, the U.S. and NASA can make new discoveries in space that may benefit the way we live today. NASA has proven that space exploration is the key to the future. Technologies developed by NASA have been used in many different areas, from agriculture to computer science. These space related technologies and scientific knowledge have contributed to high performance computing, robotics, scratch resistant eyeglass lenses, breast cancer imaging, and satellites that support communication, navigation, weather observation, and other remote sensing disciplines (Horowitz 2). Have you ever thought how your life would change if NASA never developed the modern cell phone? The differences would be noticeable immediately. • 3. The Largest Feast May Not Cure Hunger The Largest Feast May Not Cure Hunger Ernest Hemingway discusses the theme of hunger throughout A moveable feast by exploring and describing the different types of hunger that he felt. He aims to explore this theme in the passage where he strolls with Hadley, and they stop to eat at the restaurant Michaud s. Through repetition and use of unconventional detail and word choice, Hemingway shows that he has more than one type of hunger, and needs to differentiate between them. Hemingway strives to tell that hunger is a feeling that is deep within someone, that changes depending on the situation and varies in intensity and meaning. In order to stress the various types of hunger that he felt, Hemingway uses repetition. He uses this device ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hemingway described the family s features, yet he does not describe them as well fed people. One might think that if Joyce has the means to eat regularly in expensive restaurants, his wife would not eat delicately and he won would not be thin. However, Hemingway chose these descriptions because eating does not equate to fulfilling every type of hunger. Hemingway also explores whether other people felt the same kind of hungers in other parts of the novel when he writes, I used to wonder if [Cézanne] were hungry too when he painted; but I thought possibly he had only forgotten to eat. It was one of those unsound but illuminating thoughts you have when you have been sleepless or hungry. Later I thought Cézanne was probably hungry in a different way (Hemingway 69). Hemingway can relate to Cézanne s feeling because he has felt the same. Being hungry does not always mean that one has simply not eaten. He showed that Cézanne had a hunger to paint and to create; this is similar to Hemingway s hunger. Hunger is often unpleasant, yet Hemingway knew that it could yield effects that were pleasurable, such as the creation of new works. He uses the word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why The Greeks Influenced Roman Culture Dear all, This is my homework (let s better call it personal research ) for this unit. I have combined my interests in archaeology and museum studies, and I have created an interdisciplinary report. Introduction How is culture transferred from place to place? Cultural transference occurs multi directionally, because of: the circulation of people (e.g. via warfare and migration), the circulation of items (e.g. trade), or, other pathways of communication (e.g. diplomacy, dynastic marriages, oral and written tradition, etc.). In archaeological terminology, the practice of cultural transfer is called diffusion (Fagan, 1996, p. 175 176). When attempting to examine how much of Roman culture was Greek in origin, the Greco Roman world can offer a great insight into the way diffusion operates. Objective and methodology The scope of this report is to investigate how and why the Greeks influenced Roman culture. To achieve this, I will support my discussion with a set of specific examples. Lastly, as I have a personal interest in museum studies, I will briefly answer the question: Was it theft? Did the Romans really loot Greek art, and what for? . Discussion The Roman adoption of Greek culture and arts started via the Greek colonies sometime c 700 BC; yet it was intensified in the late Third and Second Millennium BC, when expansion into the Hellenistic world opened Roman eyes to the hitherto unregarded aspects of the mesmerizing ... • 5. Stargazing 101 Aries The Ram Analysis Stargazing 101: Aries the Ram I really hope you have all enjoyed my Stargazing series! These stories about the constellations and the facts behind them are so incredibly interesting and I ve had such a wonderful time sharing them with you! The Mythology Aries, a Latin word for ram, is often identified with the story of the Golden Fleece (which you might remember from the story of Carina, the ship. http://clapway.com/2015/07/07/stargazing 101 carina the ship/) It s often that we hear about Zeus and his extra marital affairs, but very rare that we hear of Hera having any. In the story of Aries, Ixion, King of Lapiths, attempted to woo Hera. Zeus learned of Ixion s intent to make Hera his lover and declared that his plan would not come to fruition. Zeus coerced a cloud named Nephele to take Hera s shape and trick Ixion into thinking he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ixion, of course, thought he had succeeded in seducing Hera but quickly found out that he had actually impregnated Nephele. Ixion was punished for attempting to steal Zeus s wife, and Nephele gave birth to the first centaur. She later had two more children with Athamas, another king, who tried to have the children killed. She came to Hera for help in saving them, so Hera sent a golden ram to aid the children in their escape. Unfortunately, one of the children fell off the ram s back and died, however, the other survived and made it to safety. Once on the banks of Colchis, the surviving child sacrificed the ram to Poseidon. Poseidon them instructed him to present the ram s golden fleece to the king of Aeete, who hung up the fleece in a secret garden where it was protected by a dragon. It was at this same time, you might recall from Carina the Ship, that Diomedes s land had overthrown him as heir to his father s throne. Pelias, the man who took Diomede s throne in his absence, is the cousin of the boy who sacrificed the ram that saved him to the god of the sea. Hera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the help of technology and how fast it is growing, communities know a natural disaster is happening within hours or days of its starting. The people that live in that area often know what there is to come before it actually arrives. They often are encouraged to evacuate as soon as possible. But how could someone leave behind all their belongings, memories and cherishable items to be swept away in a storm just like trash? People are too stubborn to listen to the news or weather reports because they are skeptical. They sometimes may be right however, most of the time they are in the wrong. They never recover financially because once they are done recovering from one disaster another one hits and it becomes a never ending cycle of trying to help one another recover. In the same article, Tudor points out that, One of the major negative effects is that there is a reduction of tourism (Tudor). People are too frightened to visit because they are constantly in fear that another natural disaster may hit. Many countries rely on tourism to help their economy because of the money they spend in hotels and food and etc. Tourism also helps to bring in other people into the country to thus help the national government and the population as a whole. Without tourism the future generations are afflicted down to a personal level with which the people already living there are going to most likely stay there, keeping the gross domestic product at a progressively decreasing rate. You will see how Amanda lives in the past, Laura lives in her own little world, Tom is living for the present and looking for the best way out, and Jim O Conner is trying to become someone famous.. Have you ever felt like a caged bird? I have! When I lived at home I had a very strict father. Every scenario went through my mind on how I could get out of my dad s house. Just like me, the characters in this play felt the same way. Amanda, a nagging mother, who wants the best for her children, Laura is in her own world, Tom wants to be free, and Jim O Connor who was trying to better himself. These are the characters in the play try to escape their reality in many different ways. Amanda, a mother of two, lives in a house in St. Louis. She only wants the best for her children, but she is an overbearing parent. She holds splendid qualities but her personality is of a difficult obstacle to sympathize (Fambrough, Preston) 2005. Every departmental manager within Lanway classed the internet within their three most important resources. This in itself shows the importance of the role it plays in today s business market. For firms such as Lanway, it is the fastest and most efficient way of obtaining up to the date and accurate (in the most part) information and offers the best cost/benefit trade off. However the internet brings with it, from an informational view point, a host of inherent problems and issues. Lanway, like many other firms suffers from this. In most cases, staff were unaware of many of these, and as such the quality of information suffered. The accuracy of the information received is on the most part never checked, and in some cases was then stored to be used for future reference. No guidelines exist as to whether only official websites were to be used, nor had any training be given on effectively using the internet itself. No one information store was available, in which staff could save data collected, such as URL s or product catalogue s, and in some cases, staff were not aware extranet facilities existed. ASSESSMENT A: Problem Question Introduction I will advise each subsequent claimant with regards to any actions they might have when focusing on issues of causation and remoteness within the common law tort of negligence. Chico s case Issue Whether employers X, Y and Z are liable in negligence for Chico s injury because they exposed him to asbestos. Relevant Law Causation Fairchild Barker Compensation Act 2006 s.3 Application In most cases the but for test is the method used for establishing factual causation. But for the defendant s wrongdoing, the claimant would not have suffered damage. However, causation becomes problematic when more than one cause arises, since the onus is upon the claimant to establish which party caused their injury or loss. The material elements test is crucial to cases relating to mesothelioma. A claimant suffering injury must demonstrate on the balance of probabilities that the defendant s tort caused the injury or loss. The claimant must then demonstrate that there is more than a fifty percent likelihood of the cause being the breach of duty of the defendant. If there are multiple causes then the burden of proof is impossible to discharge. This has often left claimants uncompensated for an obvious breach of duty. In Fairchild the House of Lords recognised that in situations wherein the claimant had been exposed to asbestos at different times whilst working for different employers, it was impossible to satisfy the conventional but for ... The meaning can be interpreted in several ways. For example, one can understand the meaning that was intended by the creators, or it could be an individual s own understanding of a storyline in the movie. As a movie can be viewed through different perspectives, a dominant male named Louis Althusser created the theory of Interpellation and the Role of ISAs and RSAs to help further understand movies. Althusser s theory explains that people in power will remain in power and others will be controlled by those in power (Hartt Fournier, Lecture 2). Louis Althusser stated the whole of the political class struggle revolved around the state, (Althusser, 1970) which is clearly evident in this film because the capitol regulates society through a dictatorship rather than a democratic system. This shows that the 12 districts, a class of struggle, always obey and fear the government and do as they are told. Also, the capitol holds an annual brutal game known as The Hunger Games, where one female and one male are chosen from each district to fight to the death and the sole survivor being deemed the winner. As the civilians fear the government, the protagonist and Gale Hawthorne (a close friend) converse about running away from the capitol. Despite Gale s insistence Katniss states she would never run away because she is afraid of being caught by the capitol (USA, dir.Gary Ross, 2012). This depicts that they urge to rebel against the government, but are too afraid of the consequences of getting caught. Furthermore, when Rue from district 11 is killed in the game the residents of district 11creat a riot and attempt to rebel against the government. However, the civilians are being controlled by the army RSA, the people in white suites, and are using abusive power to stop them. This shows they have power against the class of struggle as stated by Louis Althusser. Lastly, the state first changed the rule so that there can be two winners as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The treaty outlaws the first use of such weapons in warfare, but nations generally reserve the right to use them in retaliation. Agreements totally banning chemical warfare have proved difficult to achieve. A treaty totally banning biological warfare was drawn up by the Geneva Disarmament Conference in 1971 and approved by the United Nations General Assembly. Some 80 nations signed the Biological Weapons Convention, which the United States ratified in 1974. This treaty is unique because it outlaws a whole class of weapons by most of the world. The Genesis Of American Baptists The Genesis of American Baptists The American Baptist Movement came from England in the 17th century, after the Baptists were persecuted by the Church of England for being dissenting separatists. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, new members were converted and congregations were formed by Baptist preachers who traveled throughout the South, in particular during the eras of the First and Second Great Awakenings. The Triennial Convention The Triennial Convention was formed in 1814, when American Baptists unified nationally. The convention met every three years and was based in Philadelphia. The Home Mission Society was started in 1832. It was affiliated with the Triennial Convention, and existed to support missions in the United States, particularly in the frontier territories. In spite of this unity in mission among American Baptists, by the middle of the nineteenth century, there were several social, cultural, economic, and political differences becoming apparent among Northern business, Western farmers, and Southern planters. Conflict and Separation In 1844, there was great division over the issue of slavery. • 27. Seeing With The Eyes Or The Brain Seeing with the eyes or the brain: What goes wrong in common eye conditions? There are many parts of the eye which work in unison in order to detect certain stimuli. For example, the photoreceptors are split into two categories; the rods and the cones (named due to the shape of the cell). In the retina there are 120 million rods that help your eyes to adjust to dimly lit images or, in other words, allow you to see better in dark places. They are also highly sensitive in comparison to cones and have a slow recovery from working in such conditions. In contrast, the cones are located in the fovea and, although there are less cones than rods (only 6 million), they take up the majority of the central fovea. The cones detect a very different stimulus to the rods as their primary function is to detect different colours in the images observed by the eyes. It does this by using a protein named photopsin whereas the rods use rhodopsin. The cones also are also a lot less sensitive than the rods and have a shorter integration time (faster recovery from conditions in which they are needed to work). Another main part of the eye which helps us to detect stimuli is the lens. The main function of the lens is to focus light onto the retina so that it can send electrical impulses to the brain and it can make sense of what it is seeing. Moreover, the pupil and the cornea both work together to allow the light to enter the eye whereas the iris controls how much light enters the eye by changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Ransom Of Julius Caesar Research Paper Julius Caesar is one of my favorite Greek leaders. Some of the things that he has done sound unreal, and are very unknown. One time, in 75 B.C., he was kidnapped by pirates. He was in his mid 20s, and had he set out from Rome for the Aegean island of Rhodes. He planned to study with Apollonius who was a Greek rhetorician whose students had included Cicero, who became a famous orator in Rome. However, along the way to Rhodes, Caesar s ship was hijacked by pirates off the southwestern coast of Asia Minor. When the pirates named a ransom price for his release, Caesar thought the number was insultingly low and told them he deserved a higher ransom be demanded. Eventually, the higher ransom was paid and Caesar was freed. Soon after, he sought revenge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forester Why I chose this book: Originally this book was given to me by on of my combat instructors in Marine Combat Training(MCT). I wanted to read it but soon found it impossible due to certain time constraints. I lost the book during the transition from M.O.S. school to my current residence. Just recently, I obtained another copy of this book from a fellow Marine who currently works in the same shop. Give a brief description about this book: Rifleman Dodd is a novel written on the account of a certain British foot soldier of the Ninety Fifth Foot named Matthew Dodd who encounters ... Tactical lessons learned from this book: A few of the tactical lessons I learned from rifleman Matthew Dodd include proper concealment, guerrilla warfare like maneuvers, keeping a safe distance from enemy forces, absolute military bearing, and choosing your targets wisely, as well as, knowing when to fire at those targets. Furthermore, Dodd was very successful with remaining undetected at opportune moments, as well as, knowing exactly when to increase the distance from the enemy. What impressed me most was his ability to successfully communicate with allied forces who didn t necessarily speak his language. He used hand and arm signals to pantomime and gesture what it was he was trying to get across to his comrades. This trait would definitely fall under adaptability. Leadership lessons learned from this book: Dodd, as well as the French, possessed some good leadership skills which could easily be learned from. First of all, Dodd was capable of leading the Portuguese rebels when he was English speaking and they knew only Portuguese. He used the correct body signals to instruct his fellow comrades besides the fact that they had such a huge language barrier. He was meticulous in his planning making, even when there was only a split second to decide. Dodd posted sentries even when his troops were in no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While doing so, multiple parts of the brain are being used such as Broca s area, the hippocampus, the hypothalamus, and the occipital lobe. Broca s area is the region of the brain that contains motor neurons that play a part in controlling speech. The hippocampus is involved in learning and memory. They hypothalamus regulates the amount of hunger we contain. Whereas, the occipital lobe contains the visual centers of the brain and plays a role with all the aspects. When I first arrive to my friend s house, I will be conversing with everyone there. This is where the Broca area will become involved. The Broca area is located in the frontal part of the left hemisphere of the brain which serves a vital role in our speech. The hippocampus is located in the brain s medial temporal lobe, near the center of the brain. This part of the brain is involved with the storage of long term memory. Therefore, when I have begun to socialize with my friends and playing cards with them, the hippocampus will allow for everyone to form immediate and long term memories of that evening. After a while of socializing, my friends and I will begin to feel hungry. This is the point in which the hypothalamus becomes involved. It is located below the thalamus and right above the brain stem. One of the main purposes of the hypothalamus is to control our food and water intake as well as hunger and thirst. Accordingly, this is the part of the brain that is responsible for letting us know when everyone is hungry or full. So, when the pizza arrives, the hypothalamus will let us know that we are hungry. His stepmother, Hera, was tremendously jealous of him, because Zuse had an affair with Hercules mom. So she would always try to make his life miserable. She made him go crazy, to the point that Heracles murdered his wife and kids. When Heracles was little, Hera tried to kill him by putting two snakes in his crib. But Hercules being the tough baby he was, killed the snakes by choking them. Later on Heracles asked king Eurystheus to make him immortal so that he can clear his sins. Emotion was the key element of any Romantic poet, the intensity of which is present in all of Keats poems. Keats openly expressed feelings ignoring stylistic rules which suppressed other poets. Keat #8217;s poems display a therapeutic experience, as many of his Odes show a sense of struggle to accept, and a longing to search for an emotion which he could feed off for his eternity. As romantics emphasised beauty in order to replace the lack of religion. Three Dialogue Between Hylas Analysis In Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley strains the link between the physics and metaphysics in may ways that all are connected through the first two dialogues. It is explained that they argue that the same object can appear to have different characteristics depending on the observer s perspective. Since objective features of objects cannot change without an inherent change in the object itself, shape must not be an objective feature. However, an answer that captures what exactly it is that Berkeley rejects is that material things are mind independent things or substances. Also, that the findings of the self report measures of sleep quality will extend to biophysiological indicators of sleep quality. Effects of Electronic Usage on Quality of Sleep Sleep is a necessity of every living person. Adequate sleep ensures an individual s ability to function throughout the following day, both physically and mentally, and it is an essential contributing factor to the overall health of a person (National Sleep Foundation, 2014). Consistent inadequate sleep and what predicts it is a major concern that is often addressed by physicians and sleep specialists. Of particular interest in this increasingly techno centric world are the effects that regular use of personal electronic devices might have on the odds of obtaining sufficient sleep. A new study (Vallance, Buman, Stevinson, Lynch, 2015) found that individuals with the most screen time had significantly higher odds of reporting sleep problems to their doctors, as well as having trouble falling asleep, waking during the night, and having trouble going back to sleep. The purpose of this proposal is to explore whether or not the effect of technology on perceived sleep disturbances and sleep quality is supported by objective physiological indicators. It has no title but we often refers to him under the name of Arles bust . Its dimension are life size. The category it belongs to is spatial arts. The author is unknown and will probably never be found : back to the Ancient Rome, sculptors were rarely known. According to the facts that it s supposed to be the only representation of Caesar during his lifetime, and that Arles became a Roman colony in 49 BC, we can suppose that this sculpture was realized between 49 BC and 44 BC (because he was killed in 44 BC). The commissioner was probably Caesar himself, or someone close to him : during the Ancient Rome, wealthy admirers of politicians often paid for those kind of gift (which were quite expensive). It can also be a part of his family : sculptures were also a way for the descendants of aristocratic family to show their ancestors. This sculpture was discovered by the French Department of Subaquatic Archaeological Research in 2007, with about 700 other artifacts from the Ancient Rome. It was on view in the exhibition César, le Rhone pour mémoire , along with the other discoveries. The Four Dimensions Of Cultural Values Understanding the differences and similarities inherent in other cultures may provide opportunities when working with individuals (or groups) who may have very different or similar cultural values. Through the work of many people, more is known about other cultures values than perhaps ever before. Geert Hofstede is one of these people, and his work has allowed for a greater understanding of cultural values across a wide range of dimensions. His work has grown from four dimensions to six, and as more information is gathered this will perhaps increase as well. In the first section, the first four dimensions of cultural values will be discussed briefly. Next, all six dimensions will be given for the United States (US) and Japan, and will be considered according to the highest and lowest differences between dimensions of these two countries cultural values. In addition, considerations for applying motivational theories toward individuals from these two countries will also be discussed. Lastly, a single dimension will be selected for each country and a recommendation given accordingly that could help improve performance. Four Dimensions of Cultural Values Latham (2012) outlines four of the broad categories of Hofstede s cultural dimensions, including low high power distance, individualism collectivism, masculinity femininity, and uncertainty avoidance, which will be discussed here. The book looks in detail at five kinds of media: news, advertising, talk shows, magazines and contemporary screen and paperback romances. It is examined how presentations of female and male are changing in recent years. Gill asks how useful nations such as objectification, backlash and positive images are for making sense of gender in today s western media. Gender and the Media asks some of the significant terminology that have been used to study gender in media texts, since scholars and activists first engaged with media representations of gender. This book aims to explore how the media today construct femininity, masculinity and gender relations. Digital media and gender are different topics, but they have close connection in society. Digital media is one of the main types of media, it can be created, viewed, distributed, modified on digital electronics devices. It plays a significant role in society and culture, and also it can cause dramatic influences on human s lives. The eulogy progresses by explaining her background as an African American woman who was born in a small town and loved everyone and everything no matter their difference in this world. She also cared about the sexual orientation of others, the condition of humans, and the struggles in the world (Angelou, n.d., para. 7). This appeals to the audience s emotions because those topics are very controversial and cause many people to end friendships, but not for Coretta. Maya also appeals to the audience when she talks about sending flowers and cards because they rarely saw each other. This affected the audience because many people in the audience know how that feels. Another way that Maya appeals to the audience through pathos is using humor that will help the audience relax. First, Maya told the audience that they would call each other girl because it was a black woman thing to do, she told the audience that in their 70th decade they still said it (Angelou, n.d., para. 9). Maya also brings humor into the argument when she told the audience that she would tell her sister jokes that were not meant for the presence of anyone but the two of them (Angelou, n.d., para. 11).
