African Vs Inca Essay
During the Dark Ages in Europe, other civilizations throughout the world were going through a
Golden Era. For instance, the Africans and the Incas made numerous advancements in several aspects
of engineering. The Incas were amazing engineers who build bridges and roads through the most
rocky parts of the Andes Mountains. My first source is an online article titled Achievements of the
Incas from the website Discover Peru. The quote from the article says, They built a system of roads
and bridges across the roughest terrains of the Andes. Through their system of collective labor and the
most advanced centralized economy, the Incas were able to secure unlimited manual labor. They built
more than 14,000 miles of paved road that connected Cusco, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To start off, my second source is an article titled Great Achievements in Science and Technology in
Africa from the website ASBMB Today. The quote from the article says, ...there are the engineering
feats of the Egyptians: the bafflingly raised obelisks and the more than 80 pyramids...Many advances
in metallurgy and tool making were made across the entirety of ancient Africa. These include steam
engines, metal chisels and saws, copper and iron tools and weapons, nails, glue, carbon steel and
bronze weapons and art . This shows us that the Africans made advancements in engineering because
they made tools. Many people used what was around them but the Africans built more effective
things. Also according to the article, Great Achievements in Science and Technology in Africa, the
Egyptians constructed pyramids out of blocks of stone. This is a major advancement because people
had to carve each piece of stone by hand with no technology. The Africans also made advancements in
buildings. They used stone and granite to build new universities, grand places, and homes. The idea
from these two sources is similar. They are both telling the reader that people who lived long ago
made several advancements in engineering. These two articles clearly send the reader the message that
while Europe was going through a Dark Age , other civilizations around the world were thriving and
going through a Golden

Biological Theories Of Positivist Criminology
In this great big world of science, a theory is not only a conscience thought it is a reality of one s
illusion for describing an idea a guess of something. A theory presents a concept or idea that is
testable. The term theory is used with surprising frequency in everyday language. It is often used in to
mean a guess, hunch, or supposition. (Cherry, 2017). Theories are applied to give an example in
psychology to comprehend the behaviors, feelings, and the thoughts of humans.
The main thought behind positivist criminology is that individuals, who commit crimes, are born that
way and not made into lawbreakers; at the end of the day, it is the idea of the individual, which
decision is in criminal competence. Also, the positive criminologist ... Show more content on

This theory was started by Sigmund Freud, the originator of this psychoanalytic theory.
Psychoanalytic theories of crime causation are associated with the work of Sigmund Freud (1856
1939) and his followers. Freud did not theorize much about behavior per se, but a theory of crime
causation can be inferred from his more general theory of human behavior and its disorders (Bohm
Vogel, 2011, p 55). It is suitable to say Freud felt that human behavior, including brutal behavior, was
the result of oblivious powers working inside the human mind. Freud likewise felt that early
adolescence encounters profoundly affected youthful and grown up behavior.
In essence, positivism believes that the criminal is neither responsible nor accountable for their actions
as they were a victim of circumstance. Biological positivism attributes criminal tendencies to physical
or mental characteristics. Psychological positivism credited psychological dynamics predisposing an
individual to engage in criminal acts (Bernstein, 2009).

Sita Brahmachari Red Leaves
Red Leaves Draft 4
Red Leaves by Sita Brahmachari is a great book for an IB student to understand and explore the global
context of orientation in space and time. Red Leaves is about three kids named Aisha, Iona and Zak,
and how their lives become interlaced in the city of Home Oaks, in the United Kingdom. The story of
Red Leaves includes 3 key aspects of orientation in space and time; the importance of personal
histories, the concept of home, and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations.
By reading this book, IB students will learn the importance of personal history, and they will learn to
appreciate people for who they are. The characters in Red Leaves learn that everyone has a back story,
and they learn to respect it. For instance, Aisha is a refugee from Somalia who fled because of the
Civil War in her country. She has been living with Liliana, her foster mother. This teaches IB students
about how someone s past can affect their lives even now. Aisha s past affected her personality by
making her a stronger person, and letting her stay true to her roots and religion. Another example is
Iona. She was abused by her step father, and those experiences affect the way she acts. She acts tough

perfect example. She has been uprooted from home many times, and torn away from the people she

home was where Liliana was, where her friends were, and where she was safe. IB students will learn

Swot Analysis Of Weight Watchers

given them the green light to cheat occasionally, that eating what they desire is ok; for they will still
melt pounds if the follow their Point plus system to the tee. Furthermore, Weight Watchers took into
consideration what they want do to (lose weight), something that makes them proud to look in the

better way to get people s interest than to offer this service at no cost to them, and no obligation just
for inquiring; just come in and see for yourself then decide (no pressure, and no gimmicks). In
addition, Weight Watchers refuses to be like their competitors where you feel like you re being judged,

Greek and Roman Architectural Influences in Modern Society...
There are many imitations, and reproductions of Greek and Roman forms in the modern society of
today. Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people of
today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society today,
especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the similarities
between the two different time spans.
Back in the golden days of Greece, one of the top priorities to the Grecian people was how big and
impressive their way of life was, and this included their houses, and public buildings. The primary
type of definitive Greek building was the temple. Many of these temples were built on a large hill

( Classical Greek Architecture 616) (Reid 26)
Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian
society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these
Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except
there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities were
dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground that was
higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of limestone,
which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities between the
Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for the important
members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a central courtyard as
well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which was an elliptical hall
that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side of the courtyard and had
a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard, the only other difference
between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of the palace were much
smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s architecture instead of the
grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. (Reid 26)

Juvenile Boot Camps
Juvenile Boot Camps
In this project I am going to talk about the problem that different states have in juvenile offenders and
how they deal with them in regards to juvenile boot camps, also I am going to explain what is known
about juvenile boot camps in the United States, the degree of success of these efforts, and a general
summary of boot camps. With that in mind I am going to answer 4 different questions in order to gain
a better understanding of this program. The questions I will answer are as follows: How have different
jurisdictions dealt with delinquency problems, Which states have boot camps and why, When did
these states start using them, and finally What types of offenders are associated with these boot camps.

They have set up 5 guidelines to juvenile boot camps and they are as follows:
1. Participation by nonviolent offenders only;
2. A residential phase of 6 months or less;
3. A regimented schedule stressing discipline and physical training;
4. Participation by inmates in appropriate education opportunities, job training, and substance abuse
counseling or treatment; and
5. Provision of aftercare services that are coordinated with the program that is provided during the
period of confinement In the beginning there were great achievements in boot camps for kids. First
year boot camp completion rates were high, ranging from 80 percent to 94 percent. Youths improved
in educational performance, physical fitness, and behavior. Ratings of youths in respect for authority,
self discipline, teamwork, and personal appearance also improved significantly. Youths who graduated
from the 3 month boot camp and remained in aftercare for at least 5 months reported positive changes
in attitudes and behavior. The main objectives of all juvenile boot camps and after care activities are
pretty much the same, here are a few: o Serve as a cost effective alternative to
Institutionalization.
o Promote discipline through physical conditioning
And teamwork.
o Instill moral values and a work ethic.

Canadian Multiculturalism Analysis
Evaluate the success of Canadian multiculturalism.
There are many meanings associated with multiculturalism. However the actuality of the world means
many cultures. Canada s multiculturalism has been greatly successful since 1971, when Canada was
the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy. Canada has used
multiculturalism to acknowledge equality of all Canadian citizens despite their ethnicity, race or
religion. Multiculturalism helps ensure that all citizens throughout the country can preserve their own
culture and heritage while still feeling at home in Canada. No matter where you come from and what
ethic background you are, you will be accepted into Canada without prejudice or discrimination.

All of these rights are also stated in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which is part of the
Canadian Constitution. The Canadian Multiculturalism Act has two fundamental principles: all
citizens are equal and have the freedom to preserve, enhance and share their cultural heritage and
multiculturalism promotes the full and equitable participation of individuals and communities of all
origins in all aspects of Canadian society. The concept was again acknowledged in the Charter of
Rights and Freedoms of 1982, which states that the Charter itself shall be interpreted in a manner
consistent with the preservation and enhancement of the multicultural heritage of Canadians.

from Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio. Throughout the week we got to meet more kids from around the
U.S. like New Jersey, South Dakota, and more as a big group we packaged nearly 30,000 meals in one
morning, we traveled to Arlington National Cemetery and paid respect for those who died for our
freedom, and traveled the subway inspiring D.C. natives with our blue and gold jacket all week.
Packaging meals inspired us to think about other people and what an advantage we have just in food.

Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests
Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich composed the film
music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin (1855 1935).
The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme.
Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it:
My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a number of
my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work on the film
Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests.
In fact, the lines in song no. 5 Комсомольцы выходят вперед (Young Communists go forward!) of

Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on the
scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s much
expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The
piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important
recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The
unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key
of C major as seen in fig. 2 below.
Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin
(fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology
mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length
version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth
scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough,
motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was
composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough s statement, motive x actually occurs in other
songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several examples of the utilization of
motive x in each song.
Melody x appears

Technology Plays Significant Role Today s Society
Technology plays significant role in today s society. With advances in technology, the market of
smartphones has experienced a significant growth since Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007.
Technological advances have also paved way for wearable devices as the next generation of mobile
technology. A wearable device is a small electronic device which can be worn on the body so that an
individual can freely use it even when moving3. An example of such wearable technology is a
smartwatch. A smartwatch is a computerized device with a touchscreen display, designed to be worn
on the wrist. The first smartwatch, Pulsar, was manufactured in 1972 by Hamilton Watch Company.
Earlier models of the smartwatch like Pulsar performed basic tasks such as translation and
calculations. Smartwatches manufactured in the 21st century like the Sony Smartwatch 3 and the
Apple Watch, are more advanced and can completely function as standalone products. Most of these
smartwatches have a rechargeable battery and a graphical display with a touchscreen and run on
mobile apps using a mobile operating system to carry out their functions when paired via Bluetooth.
When paired with a phone, it allows the watch to display data such as incoming calls, text messages,

P ∝ T which can also be written as P=kT and be rearranged as P/T=k and also Pi/Ti = Pf/Tf. This is
considered the Gay Lussac Law. Pressure is proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to
volume and volume is proportional to temperature. As Gay Lussac has a law, Charles and Boyles has
their personal laws. Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume
for gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement mathematically
is P ∝ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to volume. Charles Law states that the
volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If
temperature doubles, the volume doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is
called the combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This gas law
includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature, which include the
variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. The combined gas law shows that pressure is
inversely proportional to volume, or higher volume equals lower pressure, pressure is directly
proportional to temperature or higher temperature equals higher pressure, and also that volume is
directly proportional to temperature, or higher temperature equals higher

Essay on Common Teenage Problems
Teenage is a fundamental stage of life that each human being passes through. Some people face this
period of their life strongly and positively, while others face many problems and difficulties. This
depends on the environment these young adults live in, their parents, their friends, their living
conditions, their education, and many other factors. Teenagers face many problems such as becoming
addicted to drugs and alcohol, being influenced negatively by their peers, self image and weight, or
even arguments with their parents
Drugs between teenagers is one of the most serious problems, because it causes a change in the

Peer pressure has always been present and will also always be present. It is not a disease or a crime, it
is an influence; either a negative or a positive one. Negative peer pressure is an influence put on a
person to do something wrong, or something the person doesn t want to do. This may be stealing,
taking drugs, or other dangerous actions. If someone influences you into doing something like this it is
considered a negative peer pressure. This is a major problem in most schools all around the world.
Teenagers usually feel peer pressure when they feel unpopular between their friends, or when they
want to be accepted in a group of other teenagers. The group is a place where one feels accepted,
where he can feel good about himself, where he feels secure. It increases his self esteem, and it also
enhances his self image. Unfortunately, teenagers who want to be part of these groups, need to follow
certain unpleasant routines, such as stealing, smoking, taking drugs, or drinking alcohol. Many times
they do things that they would never have imagined themselves doing before meeting a new group of
people. Some teens try to make the quot;right quot; decision so others will admire them. Having
parents or other responsible adults they can turn to for help or advice is crucial at this point in a teen s
life.
Teenagers might also face self image or weight problems. One of the main illnesses that comes from

In today s world, technology has advanced drastically that there is not a single body on this planet that
doesn t have a phone in their pocket. Those who grew up with little to no technology are now around
their 50 s or older, which are categorized as digital immigrants. In contrast, those who grew up with
technology are considered digital natives. I feel like those who are digital natives have better lives
than those who grew up being digital immigrants. For example, today s world it is a lot easier for
people to communicate and reach others family members or friends from across the world even
though one is laying on their bed drinking some hot chocolate. Unlike in the past, for one to
communicate with a relative they would have to make the effort to meet them in person.
As being a digital native, I feel like the technology has not just affected me but everyone around
world. Such as a cell phone, every cell phone now a day s is able to search the web and find what you
re looking for in a matter of a few taps and clicks. The technology we have today is incredibly easy to
maneuver, even children who are as young as 4 years old can use an iPhone better than an adult who is
at the age of 40. Cell phones make peoples life s so much easier by being able to send a text message
or an email in a matter of seconds and continue to do what you re doing, instead of having to meet up
with the individual in person. Its honestly really rare to see someone send a letter greeting family

My Favorite Place At The World Is The State Of Oregon
Oregon
My favorite place in the world is the state of Oregon. The reason for this being my favorite place is
because of how green and simply beautiful this place is. I have had the fortune of getting to visit this
state twice. I even took a train ride home from Washington through Oregon down to California. I must
add the scenery is seriously beautiful. I have never seen so many trees in my life. The name Oregon
means windstorm or hurricane. The reason they gave it this name is because of the powerful chinook
winds of the Columbia River that blows through this state. I also wanted to do this place because they
are known for their cheese and ice cream from the Tillamook brand. They also have a lot of wild
berries growing and have about 80 national parks you can visit. In Cannon Beach there is the famous
Haystack rock. Haystack rock is 235 ft tall and is home to wildlife. It also has made great tidepools
full of marine life. Crater lake happens to be the deepest lake in the United States and the second
deepest in all of North America. It also ranks number 9 in the world. The way this massively deep lake
was formed was due to the collapse of a volcano ,known as Mount Mazama. Its max depth is 1.949ft.
Oregon consists of 6 different areas. The coast, Klamath mountains , Willamette lowlands,Cascade
Mountains, Columbia Plateau , and the basin and range region. The Pacific shoreline of Oregon is
bordered by narrow coastal plains of sandy beaches, luxuriant

Irish Identity And Poetry Of William Butler Yeats And...
William Butler Yeats is one of the most esteemed poets in 20th century literature and is well known
for his Irish poetry. While Yeats was born in Ireland, he spent most of his adolescent years in London
with his family. It wasn t until he was a teenager that he later moved back to Ireland. He attended the
Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin and joined the Theosophical Society soon after moving back. He
was surrounded by Irish influences most of his life, but it was his commitment to those influences and
his heritage that truly affected his poetry. William Butler Yeats s poetry exemplifies how an author s
Irish identity can help create and influence his work. Maud Gonne, an Irish nationalist and patriot, was
a huge muse to Yeats and his poetry. Her passion for Ireland and its freedom was a large part of the
reason why William Yeats was so passionate about the dealings in Ireland himself. Maud was born in
England but loved Ireland and believed strongly in its independence from Britain. Although she is
most known for her association with William Butler Yeats, she had many accomplishments herself.
She created the Daughters of Ireland. The Daughters of Ireland was an organization which provided a
home for Irish nationalist women and encouraged the study of: Gaelic, Irish literature, history, music
and art. Maud also went on a crusade to improve prison conditions after she suffered a brief
imprisonment herself. She even wrote a bestselling book herself called A Servant of the

Action Is Morally Just Or Unjust
In philosophy, it is often difficult to formulate an accurate definition of whether an action is morally
just or unjust. In order to comprehensively explain the morality of a specific action, the definition
must meet the standards of both necessary and sufficient conditions. Necessary conditions are the
components of the definition that must be true of the action in order to classify the action as either
morally just or unjust. Although the necessary condition must be a component of the definition, it
alone does not solidify the morality of an action, which is why the sufficient condition must also be
addressed. The conditions that, if accurately met, guarantees that the definition achieves its purpose is
the sufficient condition. When applying these stipulations to the relativist view presented in class: If a
person S utters a statement of the form action A is morally wrong, this statement is true if and only if S
believes it is true, it is not difficult to argue that this particular view does not meet the standards of
necessary or sufficient conditions. Besides not meeting necessary and sufficient conditions, It is not
plausible that a moral claim can be true depending solely on whether or not the speaker believes it.
Human emotions are continuously changing; person S may believe action A is right today, but wrong
tomorrow, making the relativist view inconsistent. It is also impossible to say an action is universally
wrong based on the sole thought of one person, seeing as though each person has a different set of
beliefs, cultures, and customs. On the basis of necessary conditions, according to the relativist view
presented above, an action A is only moral wrong if speaker S deems it to be wrong at that particular
moment. However, the action may still be morally wrong, even if the speaker deems it otherwise,
meaning speaker S s definition is not necessarily correct. In terms of the sufficient condition, action A
may have been inflicted as an accident, although the speaker did not immediately know that.
Therefore, the speaker may have believed the action was morally wrong in the beginning, but when
speaker S obtains new knowledge pertaining to the action, they may think otherwise. It was suggested

Persuasive Essay On The Problems Of A Teacher
Many students and teachers in Seneca share the same goal: to make sure grades are high. For grades to
stay up, it s important that teachers make sure their students do well in class especially on the tests.
This may not seem like a problem, but it is. Students are incapable of learning to the best of their
abilities because of teachers tendencies to focus specifically on testing. In my high school career so
far, I have experienced many occasions in which this thought process has been apparent. For me,
science labs have been the most prevalent for this method of teaching. Science has always been a class
that I would receive good grades in, but looking back, it wasn t for the right reasons. My high grades
in a class like Biology didn t come from insight on how the cell works and how all the organelles
work together like a city; they came from weeks of drilling facts and information into my brain so I
could regurgitate them onto a piece of paper that meant more to me only because it was called a test or
quiz. I end up getting an A on the test which supposedly shows that my teacher did a good job
teaching. It seems like a win win situation for both parties, but in reality, this way of teaching is
problematic. The issue with teaching to the test is it impedes students from truly understanding the
content. Instead of having students go deep into a topic and fully comprehending it from several
angles, some teachers will choose a question and only consider one way to solve it.

My Msc Specialist Community Public Health
I am completing this ethics submission as part of my Msc Specialist Community Public Health Nurse/
School Nursing. This course has further increased my professional interest as a School Nurse, in
obesity and the impact this has on the individual as well as society. Given this is a continuing problem
despite various government interventions I would like to explore whether school nurses have a role to
play in childhood obesity.
Background
If current trends continue unchanged by 2034 one in three people will be obese (Public Health
England) (PHE 2014). Society has normalised being overweight with obesity increasing throughout a
person s life span (PHE 2014). The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) data has shown
that there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The estimated cost to society and the economy stood at £16 billion in 2007 with a potential rise to
about £50 billion by 2050. An estimated £2.6 billion of this is attributed to lost earnings due to obesity
(DH 2011).
It is now accepted that every aspect of our lives impacts on our health and vice versa (Linsley, Kane
and Owen 2011, Dahlgren and Whitehead 1991, PHE 2014), (Fig:1).Although the health service can
not alter this epidemic single handed it needs to work in partnership and create a community wide
approach to tackling obesity (NHS 2014, PHE 2014). By adopting a proactive rather than a reactive
approach we may be able to impact on future data (PHE 2014). 12 years ago Derek Wanless warned
that unless the country takes prevention seriously there would be a sharp rise in the burden of
unavoidable illness (NHS 2014). This warning was not heeded, and now it is acknowledged to create
the best outcomes for children s health, the sustainability of the NHS and the economic prosperity of
Britain there needs to be a radical upgrade in prevention and public health (NHS 2014).

Examples Of Heroism In Antigone
Acts of heroism can be displayed in many different ways. In the play, Antigone, written by Sophocles,
the main character Antigone fought for what she believed in standing up against state law set by the
King. The Mother from 4 Maccabees also showed strength and virtue by having to watch all of her
seven sons be tortured and die right before her eyes. As being women in a society where they are
viewed as less equal to men, characters, Antigone and the Mother from 4 Maccabees did not let male
authoritarian rule get in the way of displaying valorous acts by sticking to their moral beliefs. The
author of 4 Maccabees wrote a story in the Bible to display how piety and reason overcame passion.
The author states, For reason does not overcome its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antigone s brother, Polyneices was declared to be a traitor, according to King Kreon, against his own
country known as Thebes. For such actions King Kreon refused to let Polyneices have a proper burial
and would kill anyone who tried to give him one, which outraged Antigone. Antigone could not let
someone whose blood related to her not have a proper burial so she tries to get her sister, Ismene to
help her. Ismene replies, We must remember, first, that we two are by nature women and not fit to
fight with men; second, that we are ruled by others stronger than ourselves, and so must bow to this
and even greater griefs (Sophocles lines 61 64). Antigone being as passionate as she is ignores her
sister s fearfulness of the possible consequences and says to her, I shall bury him. To me it s fine to die
performing such a deed. I ll lie there, dear to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime
of piety; for I must please those down below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there
always (Sophocles lines 72 76). Antigone prefers to be dead with her brother who she loves very much
than to be alive and not have him have a proper burial. She believes that by committing such a crime it
is pure and will be vindicated by the Gods. Since Antigone is a woman it puts all the more pressure on
Kreon to stick to his orders because of the limitations of freedom set on Greek woman in the ancient
world. Her rebellious actions are out of line with her place in society as being a woman, which
disrupts the gender roles and Kings position over the people in the community. By not abiding by the
rules set by King Kreon she rises up against tyranny not only to expose her unique qualities of
individualism, but also to reach out to the other people in her community who haven t stood up against
the King and fought for what they believed to be

The And Its Impact On Society
1. Zakaria argues that societies are going through democratization where closed systems are becoming
more open. Therefore, now social change is originating from the masses unlike in the past. Today
democracy is not just a form of government it is a way of life. For example, a singer that is more
popular is also more successful. Large groups of people are what create change. Even capitalism is
becoming more democratic.
2. Zakaria defines constitutional liberalism as the goals of government such as protecting the rights of
its citizens. In contrast, democracy refers to a government who is elected through free and public
elections.
Chapter 1
3. Although some argue that the concept of liberty first originated in Ancient Greece, Zakaria argues
that liberty first arose after the rise of the Catholic Church. As the Catholic Church s influence grew
throughout Europe, some began to rebel. These reformers such as John Calvin or Martin Luther broke
away from the church which resulted in the Reformation. However, after the Reformation followed
the Enlightenment which truly led to established liberty. People rebelled again authoritarian rule in
both the American and French Revolution. These revolution led people to recreate their government
structures. As a result, governments that promised to protect the rights of its citizens were created in
both France and the newly established United States of America.
4. According to Zakaria, the relationship between culture and

America s Rights Of Utah
It seemed as though the U.S. would never allow Utah to become a state, at least as long as they
practiced polygamy, which was one issue they wouldn t budge on. Republicans stated that it was
Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery.
(Republican Platform of 1856)
By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws
of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the
Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood,
Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S.
government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally
enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of
Utah. (Davis)
In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more
Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s
admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over
1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. (Dalstrom) Congress hoped that by granting statehood to the
mainly Mormon territory of Utah there will be an influx of non Mormons to balance out the
population. Congress turned out to be accurate. Utah s population at

Oscar Scandal Research Paper
There has been an outcry, due to a noticeable lack of recognition of people of color, in Hollywood.

Anne Bradstreet In Reference To Her Children Essay
In 1678, many of Anne Bradstreet s poems were published for public view. Throughout her poems
Bradstreet tends to use symbolism to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. One of these poems
is In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659. Three of the most significant symbols in this poem are
the representation of her family as a flock of birds, the dangers in the world, and the expression of her
feelings toward her children.
Anne Bradstreet s representation of her family as a flock of birds symbolizes two different things.
First, it symbolizes her connection to God and her desire to please Him. She represents herself and her
family as birds because they were also creations of God; however, they are not human, therefore they
do not sin. The bird family also symbolizes freedom. As her young grow up and spread their wings,
they leave the nest to fly on their own. This represents one of the facts of life; children grow up and
leave their parents homes to find their own way to make it in the world. ... Show more content on

Four have already left home, one will leave soon and the other three still dwell in the house with her.
She then begins to express the dangers of the world around her in a bird s point of view. For example,
she is afraid that her young will fall in a fowler s snare, be caught in a net or by birdlime on twigs, or
hurt by a hawk. In a human world a fowler s snare might be fallings into the hands of trickery,
robbery, or any other type of crime. Caught by net or birdlime might represent being in the wrong
place at the wrong time, and a hawk inflicted injury might symbolize being wounded or killed by an
Indian or criminal. She fears for the lives of her children and worries that harm will come to them.
This also represents an aspect of the parent child relationship. No matter how old children get, their
parents still worry about the things they do and the choices they

The Discovery Of The 19th Century
In the 19th century Americans saw it as their duty to accomplish what many might believe to be
unrealistic, to connect North America from coast to coast. Manifest Destiny is a term that describes
the attitude that many Americans had during this era of transformation and progression. Americans
claimed the right to bring civilization westward and transform the unknown world into a land where
men could live and be free. However, with this movement of progression Westward meant destruction
for many Native Americans. California native s suffered greatly due to the invasion and great influx of
foreigners into their land due to the natural resources California offers. These resources attracted many
and as a result California natives witnessed their land being destroyed along with their people and
culture stripped away from them. By 1849, gold was discovered in California which attracted many,
all in hope of finding gold and becoming wealthy off of it. The discovery of gold meant destruction
for California natives, especially the Yuki Indians that lived in Round Valley. Before the gold rush,
there were about 13,000 non Indians in California and by the 1860s census takers counted 362,196
non Indians in California. Due to the discovery of gold, many Yuki Indians and other California
natives were killed to be removed off their land and allow for the excavation of gold. Killings, rape,
disease, and child abduction caused a rapid decrease among the Yuki Indians. From 1850 until 1863,

The American Civil Rights Movement was being broadcast across the world, including Northern

Pros And Cons Of Imperfect Education
Ken Robinson talks on TED about what The United States of America should do about its imperfect
education system. He talks about the newest change to all schools systems called the No Child Left
Behind act. If he were to visit Framingham Public Schools, he would say this school system falls
under the same imperfect educational system the rest of America has. My educational experience has
been no where close to what Robinsons ideal education system should be which is very personalized,
strong support for teachers, diverse and broad curriculum, and involves kids inside and out of school.
One part of the No Child Left Behind act is making students to be compliance with educational
standards, and school rules. Schools are told to find out what students can do and to have a standard
discipline. It is cruel, but a real education has to weigh out the arts, humanities, and physical
education. It is almost like schools have forgotten their is more than just academics in a good
education. Students are not focusing in class because of the overload in academics but, schools
systems believe this is because of a ADHD epidemic. Framingham Public Schools is a great example
of why Ken Robinson would like to see change in educational systems. This school system gives
many tests to ensure their students are within the educational standard. Robinson believes the problem
with testing is, the purpose of it is to tell the teacher what the student had learned of given
information, but the

Samuel Beckett¨s Novel Molloy and Its Particular Style,...
There s no question Samuel Beckett was deeply influenced by the avant garde style of fellow Irish
novelist James Joyce when writing Molloy. Both Beckett and Joyce allude to the classics (Dante s
Purgatorio and Homer s Odyssey, respectively) and both extensively employ interior monologue to
often similar effect. Even so, Beckett, ever aware of the shadow cast by his former mentor, also
attempted to eschew Joycean tendencies in his works, as demonstrated in Molloy. Here, not only does
Beckett entirely deny readers the luxury of context, he deconstructs the very fundamentals of novel
and narrative. Distinctly metafictional in form, Molloy self consciously underlines its own artificiality
and, on a universal level, that intrinsic to fiction itself. Like the titular allusion of Joyce s Ulysses, the
two protagonists in Molloy also embark on a voyage of sorts, albeit the nature of which is even more
so internalized. As a result, there s not much by way of plot or setting, which remain intentionally
hazy. Still, the novel moves, sometimes at a dizzying pace, in part to its frequent digressions and
elision of so many vital answers: Are Molloy and Moran the same character? Is it possible Molloy
may not even be a person altogether but rather an alter ego of Moran? Is Molloy a state of mind? What
exactly does it mean to be searching for Molloy ? These questions stem from the novel s vague
definition of physical space and time, leading some readers to interpret the novel s second

Harry Hopkins Contributions
Abstract
This paper will explore three important aspects that Harry Hopkins achieved in this social work career.
Fist the path he took in working within the social work field, second the contributions he made and
lastly how his work could inform individuals working in the practice of a social worker. Utilizing
eight different articles, this paper will explore the life of Harry Hopkins and how he had an account of
the impact on public policies here in the United States, and how no other social worker has had the
influence in changing the direction of American social policy.

In the year 1926, Harry Hopkins, who was the Director of the New York Tuberculosis Society, who
would go on to be one of Franklin D. Roosevelt s closest advisors and became a designer of the New
Deal. Harry Hopkins wrote, The field of social work and public health are inseparable, and not
artificial boundaries can separate them. Social work is interwoven in the whole fabric of the public
health movement, and has directly influenced it at every point (Hopkins, 1926). A review of social
work s past and current efforts can highlight its contemporary value. Hopkins believed that there was a
creative understanding in face to face relationships. The immediate problems of this Association of

  • 2. African Vs Inca Essay During the Dark Ages in Europe, other civilizations throughout the world were going through a Golden Era. For instance, the Africans and the Incas made numerous advancements in several aspects of engineering. The Incas were amazing engineers who build bridges and roads through the most rocky parts of the Andes Mountains. My first source is an online article titled Achievements of the Incas from the website Discover Peru. The quote from the article says, They built a system of roads and bridges across the roughest terrains of the Andes. Through their system of collective labor and the most advanced centralized economy, the Incas were able to secure unlimited manual labor. They built more than 14,000 miles of paved road that connected Cusco, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start off, my second source is an article titled Great Achievements in Science and Technology in Africa from the website ASBMB Today. The quote from the article says, ...there are the engineering feats of the Egyptians: the bafflingly raised obelisks and the more than 80 pyramids...Many advances in metallurgy and tool making were made across the entirety of ancient Africa. These include steam engines, metal chisels and saws, copper and iron tools and weapons, nails, glue, carbon steel and bronze weapons and art . This shows us that the Africans made advancements in engineering because they made tools. Many people used what was around them but the Africans built more effective things. Also according to the article, Great Achievements in Science and Technology in Africa, the Egyptians constructed pyramids out of blocks of stone. This is a major advancement because people had to carve each piece of stone by hand with no technology. The Africans also made advancements in buildings. They used stone and granite to build new universities, grand places, and homes. The idea from these two sources is similar. They are both telling the reader that people who lived long ago made several advancements in engineering. These two articles clearly send the reader the message that while Europe was going through a Dark Age , other civilizations around the world were thriving and going through a Golden ... • 3. Biological Theories Of Positivist Criminology In this great big world of science, a theory is not only a conscience thought it is a reality of one s illusion for describing an idea a guess of something. A theory presents a concept or idea that is testable. The term theory is used with surprising frequency in everyday language. It is often used in to mean a guess, hunch, or supposition. (Cherry, 2017). Theories are applied to give an example in psychology to comprehend the behaviors, feelings, and the thoughts of humans. The main thought behind positivist criminology is that individuals, who commit crimes, are born that way and not made into lawbreakers; at the end of the day, it is the idea of the individual, which decision is in criminal competence. Also, the positive criminologist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory was started by Sigmund Freud, the originator of this psychoanalytic theory. Psychoanalytic theories of crime causation are associated with the work of Sigmund Freud (1856 1939) and his followers. Freud did not theorize much about behavior per se, but a theory of crime causation can be inferred from his more general theory of human behavior and its disorders (Bohm Vogel, 2011, p 55). It is suitable to say Freud felt that human behavior, including brutal behavior, was the result of oblivious powers working inside the human mind. Freud likewise felt that early adolescence encounters profoundly affected youthful and grown up behavior. In essence, positivism believes that the criminal is neither responsible nor accountable for their actions as they were a victim of circumstance. Biological positivism attributes criminal tendencies to physical or mental characteristics. Psychological positivism credited psychological dynamics predisposing an individual to engage in criminal acts (Bernstein, 2009). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Red Leaves is about three kids named Aisha, Iona and Zak, and how their lives become interlaced in the city of Home Oaks, in the United Kingdom. The story of Red Leaves includes 3 key aspects of orientation in space and time; the importance of personal histories, the concept of home, and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations. By reading this book, IB students will learn the importance of personal history, and they will learn to appreciate people for who they are. The characters in Red Leaves learn that everyone has a back story, and they learn to respect it. For instance, Aisha is a refugee from Somalia who fled because of the Civil War in her country. She has been living with Liliana, her foster mother. This teaches IB students about how someone s past can affect their lives even now. Aisha s past affected her personality by making her a stronger person, and letting her stay true to her roots and religion. Another example is Iona. She was abused by her step father, and those experiences affect the way she acts. She acts tough and at first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She has been uprooted from home many times, and torn away from the people she loved. Nevertheless, she found a home with her foster mom and made friends. This includes but not limited to foods such as, chocolate, McDonald s, a milkshake; even pizza without any type of backlash from to sticking to a set diet plan. With Weight Watchers, they do just that, give their clients options through Points Plus which you follow on a weekly basis; and adjust if needed to meet your goals. For example, if you over indulge in pizza during the week than you can just make some type of adjustment in a different area of calories to even the Point plus system out. • 7. Greek and Roman Architectural Influences in Modern Society... There are many imitations, and reproductions of Greek and Roman forms in the modern society of today. Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the similarities between the two different time spans. Back in the golden days of Greece, one of the top priorities to the Grecian people was how big and impressive their way of life was, and this included their houses, and public buildings. The primary type of definitive Greek building was the temple. Many of these temples were built on a large hill known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ( Classical Greek Architecture 616) (Reid 26) Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard, the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme. Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it: My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a number of my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work on the film Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests. Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on the scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s much expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below. Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. With advances in technology, the market of smartphones has experienced a significant growth since Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007. Technological advances have also paved way for wearable devices as the next generation of mobile technology. A wearable device is a small electronic device which can be worn on the body so that an individual can freely use it even when moving3. An example of such wearable technology is a smartwatch. A smartwatch is a computerized device with a touchscreen display, designed to be worn on the wrist. The first smartwatch, Pulsar, was manufactured in 1972 by Hamilton Watch Company. Earlier models of the smartwatch like Pulsar performed basic tasks such as translation and calculations. Smartwatches manufactured in the 21st century like the Sony Smartwatch 3 and the Apple Watch, are more advanced and can completely function as standalone products. Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume for gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement mathematically is P ∝ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to volume. Charles Law states that the volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If temperature doubles, the volume doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is called the combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This gas law includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature, which include the variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. While Yeats was born in Ireland, he spent most of his adolescent years in London with his family. It wasn t until he was a teenager that he later moved back to Ireland. He attended the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin and joined the Theosophical Society soon after moving back. He was surrounded by Irish influences most of his life, but it was his commitment to those influences and his heritage that truly affected his poetry. William Butler Yeats s poetry exemplifies how an author s Irish identity can help create and influence his work. Maud Gonne, an Irish nationalist and patriot, was a huge muse to Yeats and his poetry. Her passion for Ireland and its freedom was a large part of the reason why William Yeats was so passionate about the dealings in Ireland himself. Maud was born in England but loved Ireland and believed strongly in its independence from Britain. Although she is most known for her association with William Butler Yeats, she had many accomplishments herself. She created the Daughters of Ireland. The Daughters of Ireland was an organization which provided a home for Irish nationalist women and encouraged the study of: Gaelic, Irish literature, history, music and art. • 22. Action Is Morally Just Or Unjust In philosophy, it is often difficult to formulate an accurate definition of whether an action is morally just or unjust. In order to comprehensively explain the morality of a specific action, the definition must meet the standards of both necessary and sufficient conditions. Necessary conditions are the components of the definition that must be true of the action in order to classify the action as either morally just or unjust. Although the necessary condition must be a component of the definition, it alone does not solidify the morality of an action, which is why the sufficient condition must also be addressed. The conditions that, if accurately met, guarantees that the definition achieves its purpose is the sufficient condition. When applying these stipulations to the relativist view presented in class: If a person S utters a statement of the form action A is morally wrong, this statement is true if and only if S believes it is true, it is not difficult to argue that this particular view does not meet the standards of necessary or sufficient conditions. Besides not meeting necessary and sufficient conditions, It is not plausible that a moral claim can be true depending solely on whether or not the speaker believes it. Human emotions are continuously changing; person S may believe action A is right today, but wrong tomorrow, making the relativist view inconsistent. It is also impossible to say an action is universally wrong based on the sole thought of one person, seeing as though each person has a different set of beliefs, cultures, and customs. On the basis of necessary conditions, according to the relativist view presented above, an action A is only moral wrong if speaker S deems it to be wrong at that particular moment. However, the action may still be morally wrong, even if the speaker deems it otherwise, meaning speaker S s definition is not necessarily correct. In terms of the sufficient condition, action A may have been inflicted as an accident, although the speaker did not immediately know that. Therefore, the speaker may have believed the action was morally wrong in the beginning, but when speaker S obtains new knowledge pertaining to the action, they may think otherwise. • 23. Persuasive Essay On The Problems Of A Teacher Many students and teachers in Seneca share the same goal: to make sure grades are high. For grades to stay up, it s important that teachers make sure their students do well in class especially on the tests. This may not seem like a problem, but it is. Students are incapable of learning to the best of their abilities because of teachers tendencies to focus specifically on testing. In my high school career so far, I have experienced many occasions in which this thought process has been apparent. For me, science labs have been the most prevalent for this method of teaching. Science has always been a class that I would receive good grades in, but looking back, it wasn t for the right reasons. My high grades in a class like Biology didn t come from insight on how the cell works and how all the organelles work together like a city; they came from weeks of drilling facts and information into my brain so I could regurgitate them onto a piece of paper that meant more to me only because it was called a test or quiz. I end up getting an A on the test which supposedly shows that my teacher did a good job teaching. It seems like a win win situation for both parties, but in reality, this way of teaching is problematic. The issue with teaching to the test is it impedes students from truly understanding the content. Instead of having students go deep into a topic and fully comprehending it from several angles, some teachers will choose a question and only consider one way to solve it. ... It is now accepted that every aspect of our lives impacts on our health and vice versa (Linsley, Kane and Owen 2011, Dahlgren and Whitehead 1991, PHE 2014), (Fig:1).Although the health service can not alter this epidemic single handed it needs to work in partnership and create a community wide approach to tackling obesity (NHS 2014, PHE 2014). Antigone could not let someone whose blood related to her not have a proper burial so she tries to get her sister, Ismene to help her. Ismene replies, We must remember, first, that we two are by nature women and not fit to fight with men; second, that we are ruled by others stronger than ourselves, and so must bow to this and even greater griefs (Sophocles lines 61 64). Antigone being as passionate as she is ignores her sister s fearfulness of the possible consequences and says to her, I shall bury him. To me it s fine to die performing such a deed. For example, a singer that is more popular is also more successful. Large groups of people are what create change. Even capitalism is becoming more democratic. 2. Zakaria defines constitutional liberalism as the goals of government such as protecting the rights of its citizens. In contrast, democracy refers to a government who is elected through free and public elections. Chapter 1 3. Although some argue that the concept of liberty first originated in Ancient Greece, Zakaria argues that liberty first arose after the rise of the Catholic Church. As the Catholic Church s influence grew throughout Europe, some began to rebel. These reformers such as John Calvin or Martin Luther broke away from the church which resulted in the Reformation. However, after the Reformation followed the Enlightenment which truly led to established liberty. People rebelled again authoritarian rule in both the American and French Revolution. These revolution led people to recreate their government structures. As a result, governments that promised to protect the rights of its citizens were created in both France and the newly established United States of America. 4. • 27. America s Rights Of Utah It seemed as though the U.S. would never allow Utah to become a state, at least as long as they practiced polygamy, which was one issue they wouldn t budge on. Republicans stated that it was Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery. (Republican Platform of 1856) By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of Utah. (Davis) In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over 1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. (Dalstrom) Congress hoped that by granting statehood to the mainly Mormon territory of Utah there will be an influx of non Mormons to balance out the population. Congress turned out to be accurate. • 29. Anne Bradstreet In Reference To Her Children Essay In 1678, many of Anne Bradstreet s poems were published for public view. Throughout her poems Bradstreet tends to use symbolism to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. One of these poems is In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659. Three of the most significant symbols in this poem are the representation of her family as a flock of birds, the dangers in the world, and the expression of her feelings toward her children. Anne Bradstreet s representation of her family as a flock of birds symbolizes two different things. First, it symbolizes her connection to God and her desire to please Him. She represents herself and her family as birds because they were also creations of God; however, they are not human, therefore they do not sin. The bird family also symbolizes freedom. As her young grow up and spread their wings, they leave the nest to fly on their own. This represents one of the facts of life; children grow up and leave their parents homes to find their own way to make it in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four have already left home, one will leave soon and the other three still dwell in the house with her. She then begins to express the dangers of the world around her in a bird s point of view. For example, she is afraid that her young will fall in a fowler s snare, be caught in a net or by birdlime on twigs, or hurt by a hawk. In a human world a fowler s snare might be fallings into the hands of trickery, robbery, or any other type of crime. Caught by net or birdlime might represent being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a hawk inflicted injury might symbolize being wounded or killed by an Indian or criminal. She fears for the lives of her children and worries that harm will come to them. This also represents an aspect of the parent child relationship. No matter how old children get, their parents still worry about the things they do and the choices they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Discovery Of The 19th Century In the 19th century Americans saw it as their duty to accomplish what many might believe to be unrealistic, to connect North America from coast to coast. Manifest Destiny is a term that describes the attitude that many Americans had during this era of transformation and progression. Americans claimed the right to bring civilization westward and transform the unknown world into a land where men could live and be free. However, with this movement of progression Westward meant destruction for many Native Americans. California native s suffered greatly due to the invasion and great influx of foreigners into their land due to the natural resources California offers. These resources attracted many and as a result California natives witnessed their land being destroyed along with their people and culture stripped away from them. By 1849, gold was discovered in California which attracted many, all in hope of finding gold and becoming wealthy off of it. The discovery of gold meant destruction for California natives, especially the Yuki Indians that lived in Round Valley. Before the gold rush, there were about 13,000 non Indians in California and by the 1860s census takers counted 362,196 non Indians in California. Due to the discovery of gold, many Yuki Indians and other California natives were killed to be removed off their land and allow for the excavation of gold. Killings, rape, disease, and child abduction caused a rapid decrease among the Yuki Indians. From 1850 until 1863, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The American Civil Rights Movement was being broadcast across the world, including Northern Ireland. It was a considerable factor to the movement in the North. Republican leader Gerry Adams credits coverage of the black civil rights movement as a contributing factor to an increased politicisation in Northern Ireland (Dooley, 1998). • 32. Pros And Cons Of Imperfect Education Ken Robinson talks on TED about what The United States of America should do about its imperfect education system. He talks about the newest change to all schools systems called the No Child Left Behind act. If he were to visit Framingham Public Schools, he would say this school system falls under the same imperfect educational system the rest of America has. My educational experience has been no where close to what Robinsons ideal education system should be which is very personalized, strong support for teachers, diverse and broad curriculum, and involves kids inside and out of school. One part of the No Child Left Behind act is making students to be compliance with educational standards, and school rules. Schools are told to find out what students can do and to have a standard discipline. It is cruel, but a real education has to weigh out the arts, humanities, and physical education. It is almost like schools have forgotten their is more than just academics in a good education. Students are not focusing in class because of the overload in academics but, schools systems believe this is because of a ADHD epidemic. Framingham Public Schools is a great example of why Ken Robinson would like to see change in educational systems. This school system gives many tests to ensure their students are within the educational standard. Robinson believes the problem with testing is, the purpose of it is to tell the teacher what the student had learned of given information, but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Samuel Beckett¨s Novel Molloy and Its Particular Style,... There s no question Samuel Beckett was deeply influenced by the avant garde style of fellow Irish novelist James Joyce when writing Molloy. Both Beckett and Joyce allude to the classics (Dante s Purgatorio and Homer s Odyssey, respectively) and both extensively employ interior monologue to often similar effect. Even so, Beckett, ever aware of the shadow cast by his former mentor, also attempted to eschew Joycean tendencies in his works, as demonstrated in Molloy. Here, not only does Beckett entirely deny readers the luxury of context, he deconstructs the very fundamentals of novel and narrative. Distinctly metafictional in form, Molloy self consciously underlines its own artificiality and, on a universal level, that intrinsic to fiction itself. Like the titular allusion of Joyce s Ulysses, the two protagonists in Molloy also embark on a voyage of sorts, albeit the nature of which is even more so internalized. As a result, there s not much by way of plot or setting, which remain intentionally hazy. Still, the novel moves, sometimes at a dizzying pace, in part to its frequent digressions and elision of so many vital answers: Are Molloy and Moran the same character? Is it possible Molloy may not even be a person altogether but rather an alter ego of Moran? Is Molloy a state of mind? What exactly does it mean to be searching for Molloy ? These questions stem from the novel s vague definition of physical space and time, leading some readers to interpret the novel s second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
