The Domination Of Merchants And Land Lawyers Essay
Montejano Reading: The Domination of Merchants and Land Lawyers David Montejano approaches
the incorporation of Texas from the least romantic and colorful perspective of the merchants and land
lawyers , noting that these capital based and export oriented... frontier folk were the region s principal
architects (15). From strategic incorporation of Anglos into Mexican landed elite to the political
exclusion of Texas Mexicans, and from the development of commercial agriculture to driving
Mexicans from their land through coercion and fraud, both Anglo merchants and land lawyers become
abrasive actors in the Texan narrative. Driven by manifest destiny and a superiority complex, Anglos
routinely denied Mexicans, who were the original land owners and inhabitants of the region,
economic, political and social rights, eventually leading up to the modern state of Texas. With the Rio
Grande as an attractive opportunity for trade from Sante Fe and southward, many attempts to tap into
the potential proved unsuccessful including the use of steamboats. Instead, the lower Rio Grande and
the port of Matamoros became a point of much contention since silver bullion, lead, wool, his and
beef tallow were produced in the region. The attempts to commercialize the Rio Grande peaked during
the early 1800s, when, shortly after, two major US military expeditions ensued in attempts to claim
the territory. Nueces Strip, a practically worthless stretch of land framed by the Rio Grande in the

The World Is Too Much With Us Essay
We all think that we appreciate the nature around us, but do we really? How often do we spend time
sitting out on the grass, bird watching? Even if we do, can we sit for more than five minutes without
our tasks rushing back into our mind? In The World is Too Much with Us, William Wordsworth
touches upon this idea of excessive greed and our refusal to allow nature around us into our every day
life. This poem discusses Wordsworth s ongoing frustration with the world around him. We are not
paying attention to nature, but instead are focused on getting and spending . The recurring theme of
excessive materialism flows through every line, all very relatable to the modern day. We are out of
tune with the world, out of touch with our own spirituality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I know that there are a lot of positive aspects of the internet, and when used properly, it can be
beneficial. However, there are many people my age who rely on this for nearly all aspects of their
lives, and that results in a too dependent generation. A lot of the people around me don t know what it
is like to go somewhere without their cell phone. We have forgotten what it is like to sit down on a
park bench and observe our surroundings for thirty minutes. I think this has affected how millennials
socially interact with others. Scrolling through my timeline on social media, I see people bragging
about their possessions and the cost of the watch on their wrist. Rather than enjoying the sun or the
rain, they are on their phones, trying to get the perfect camera shot. The world of social media has
become a world of instant gratification. Wordsworth s stance on the modern world is all too similar to
the modern world today. Although cell phones weren t around during his time, the feeling wa still the
same. I believe this will always be the case, and every few years there will be another distraction. The
best thing we can do for ourselves is make sure that we don t get too carried away by this world that is
too much with us. Having these new technologies are fun and beneficial to a certain extent, but we
must remember that everything should be at a nice

When performing my experiment I will come across various health and safety issues. One of them
would be spilling acid on my hand. To prevent this I will be using syringes to measure out the correct
amount of HCL. This will prevent any spillage of HCL. Also another heath and safety risk would be
having Na2S2O3 get into any open cuts I have. To prevent this I will cover all open cuts I have.
Moreover there is a chance that when reacting HCL with Na2S2O3 the gases produced could get in
my eye and cause my eye to become irritant. So to prevent this I will wear safety goggles so the gases
produces can not get into me eyes.
When I conduct my experiment I think that as the concentration of HCL increases. The time taken for
the HCL to react with Na2S2O3 will increase. I think this will happen because of the collision theory
(1) the more collisions in a system, the more likely combinations of molecules will happen. This helps
understand that if we increase the concentration of HCL then the more likely there will be
combination of molecules hitting each other at a faster rate meaning that if there are more collisions of
molecules this would speed up a reaction by every molar the HCL goes up by.

Seth Johnson Nathan Clough Geo 1304 Reading Response 5 For decades, many researches have
attempted to explain the traits of groups and furthermore describe how humans create places through
their culture. They have made an effort to look at patterns of people on how they give meaning to the
land and environment around them. Researches explore different places viewing the way humans use
nature within their everyday life and what defines them. More specifically, they investigate how
common people can use the same land but in different ways and behaviors. To go further in depth,

The Impact Of Income Inequality On Economic Growth
LITERATURE REVIEW The impact of Income Inequality on Economic Growth: A Case study on
Nigeria Student Number: P14173106 Supervisor: Helen Solomon Module Leader: Helen Solomon
Date: 26th November 2016 Word Count: 1.0 Introduction According to Adam Smith (1776) in his
book the wealth of nations, no society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater
part of the members are poor and miserable . Economic growth and income inequality are central inter
related facets that explain current trend in global issues. Oxfam (2016) suggested that 62 of the richest
people have the same wealth as the 3.6 billion poorest people. The rich continue to acquire wealth,
while the poor struggle for basic things required for survival like food, access to clean water and
shelter. The research question proposed is: Does income inequality have an impact on economic
growth? . This chapter highlights the key concepts and notions which underlie the subject matter of
the study in order to provide an ideal frame for understanding the relationship between income
inequality and economic growth and answering the research question. It will also look at previous
empirical studies carried out by other researchers in this field and identify gaps in the existing
literature. 2.0 Theoretical Framework and Empirical Evidence Inequality is generally referred to unfair
distribution of resource among individuals. Inequality can vary from income, health, gender and
wealth.

How Does Gordie Create Tension In Stand By Me
Stand By Me (1986), directed by Rob Reiner is a movie portraying the adventure of four young boys,
on a journey of self discovery and maturing. The tension and suspence in the movie is enhanced
through different angles, sound effects and dialogue. The first time the audience see the bridge, in the
train bridge scene, it is a long shot of the boys and the tracks streched out infront of them. This angle
makes the boys seen small and weak. This idea is re inforced when the boys look anxious and their
voices shake slightly. Their nerves are shown again when Gordie feels the train trcks while looking
back at the ones they jjst passed. gordiea action is another way the director made this scene dramatic.

Analysis Of The Brown House By Hisaye Yamamoto
Hisaye Yamamoto, a Japanese American author, composed a collection of short stories titled,
Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories. These collection of short stories describes the experiences
Japanese Americans undergo while residing in America. The Japanese American culture that
Yamamoto introduces has three types of generations. The first one being, the Issei, the second one
being, the Nisei and the third one being, the Sensei. All three Japanese generations are described in
Yamamoto s short story cycle, which shows the relationship between Japanese Americans as well as
with other ethnic groups. The major themes Yamamoto highlights within her novel defines the idea of
what it is like to be Japanese American through the difficulties that Japanese immigrants face in
America, the cultural separation between these immigrants and their children as well as restrictions
that Japanese women face within their traditional Japanese culture. The Brown House , a short story
within Yamamoto s novel, Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories, depicts the three themes that were
previously mentioned above. The Brown House displays a story about a Japanese American family,
the Hattoris, residing in the state of California. The Hattoris underwent financial struggles as their
strawberry picking season came to an end. This being stated, in an attempt to make some quick cash,
Mr. Hattori becomes desperate and gets involved in the gambling business at the brown house, in a
nearby neighborhood.

The And Non Pharmacy Personnel
and non pharmacy personnel. Officer Hartshorn also suggested placing tape on doorways to help
determine the height of a robber as well as limiting the stock of controlled substances or to have
controlled substances in a locked safe, or otherwise hard to get to location.2 Time is a robber s worst
enemy so implementing ways to slow down the process may make the robber abort the robbery.
According to John Partridge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, another suggestion is to have
communication with other pharmacies in the area and with local law enforcement in advance of any
robbery or burglary incidents and to invite law enforcement to tour the pharmacy and offer
recommendations on deterring theft.7 Also, make sure there is enough ... Show more content on

If the robber is not wearing a mask, Officer Hartshorn shared that taking note of the robber s face can
be very useful in an investigation.2 However, other schools of thought on this matter state that it is
better to take a submissive stance, not to look the perpetrator in the eye (i.e., don t stare) and keep eyes
down so the robber will not think s/he can be identified, which could make the situation become
deadly. Using downward directed and peripheral vision to see clothing, shoes, tattoos, a weapon, and
as much of the robber as possible is less likely to escalate the event.7 Some pharmacies have a no
escalation policy, encouraging employees to not do anything that would anger the robber and perhaps
make the situation more dangerous than it already is. In doing so, an employee should be cooperative
and remain calm.7 Officer Hartshorn states that if the robber says s/he has a gun, assume that to be
true.2 Pharmacy employees should not get an attitude, try to be a hero,

The Causes Of Gas Exchange

GAS EXCHANGE

Gas exchange
Gas Exchange
Leslie A. Rouse
El Centro College
Gas Exchange
Gas exchange is defined as the process by which oxygen is transported to cells and carbon dioxide is
transported from cells (Giddens, 2013, p.161). Gas exchange in the human body occurs in the lungs
and as the primary function of the respiratory system, it exchanges two gases, oxygen and carbon
dioxide. The process of gas exchange happens as we breathe through ventilation, transport and
perfusion. As you inhale oxygen, the oxygen travels deep into the lungs until it reaches the alveoli.
Here in the alveoli oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse across the alveolar capillary membrane. Oxygen
is able to enter into the blood while carbon dioxide is leaving the blood as waste to be exhaled from
the lungs and out of the body. This oxygenated blood is then transported throughout the body. All cells
depend on a consistent supply of oxygen and removal of waste in order to survive. A reduction or lack
of oxygen and/or buildup of waste leads to demise. For this reason, gas exchange is critical. Gas
exchange is compromised when there is impairment of ventilation, altered transport of oxygen, or
inadequate perfusion. Impaired ventilation may occur in conditions such as inadequate muscle or
nerve function to move air into the lungs, such as cervical spinal cord injury; narrowed airways from
bronchoconstriction like in asthma, or from obstruction like in chronic bronchitis; poor gas diffusion

Hillary Clinton Trump Persuasive Essay
Americans take their right from the first amendment very seriously; freedom of speech. Politics is one
of the most controversial topics especially in the United States. With the two candidates running this
year Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump it is no surprise it brings up such a dispute. In 2012, almost
130 million Americans casted a vote for the presidential election. With all the argument between
voters and nonvoters, it brings a lot more pressure onto Trump and Clinton to try to gain supports and
make themselves look better than the other. By doing this, they create ads to reach those they have not
yet convinced to be on their team. As we all know, Donald Trump loves to give people a hard time and
bring down whoever is not like him. But Hillary Clinton gave him a taste of his own medicine in her
advertisement, Role Models. In the 2016 political ad Role Models by Hillary Clinton, she is successful
in criticizing Donald Trump to favor herself by the use of lighting, facial expressions, and direct
quotes.. Lighting in this advertisement is a key in demonstrating the difference between the two
candidates. As seen in the first 40 seconds of the video, Donald Trump is on the television in the
homes of children who are viewing his rallies. When the children are sitting in front of the t.v. when
Trump is on, there is darkness around them. The images shown in the first half ... Show more content

Difference Between Democracy And Democracy
There are many forms of government all over the world. Governments are very important to how they
allow the population to work together. Two of the most popular forms of government are a
dictatorship and a democracy. Both these governments have their own properties and are unique in
every country they are present in. Democracy is a form of government controlled by the whole
population or all the eligible members of the state, usually through elected representatives. A typical
representative democracy means it s the elected representative s job to represent their voters. A
democracy is seen in some of the most powerful states in the world.
Great Britain is one of the original democratic states. They ve been a democratic regime for many
years and have been a great role model for the rest of the world. Great Britain has shown that
democracy not only brings freedom but peace. Most democratic states are very peaceful.
Singapore had fought for its independence from the colonial grip of Great Britain. It is also a very
egalitarian and liberalized country. It has been one of the biggest trading posts in the world and has
become very wealthy. The (PAP) or People s Action Party was the first universal suffrage movement.
It s led the country for many years, provided many social welfare programs and the people are very
supportive of it. The party has been known for imprisonment and harassment but no known
disappearances.

Imperialism In The Belgian Congo
Although in some imperialism improved the lives of the native people in the Belgian Congo by
providing modern infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, to a great extent imperialism made life
worse because of its effect on nationalism and traditions as well as, the physical and emotional strain
it inflicted in the Belgian Congo.
However, imperialism helped the native Congolians by providing modern forms of infrastructure.
Before the discovery of the African Congo, life in Africa was subpar. Lifespans were much shorter,
literacy and research were foreign concepts, and transportation was a mere fantasy. Infrastructure
provided the native Congolians with schools, hospitals, and railroads, giving them improved lifestyles.

The hospitals utilized modern medicine, such things as medicines and vaccines were all created in the

Freedom In The Nineteenth-Century Essay
Throughout the nineteenth century, following the shift to an industrialized market, there was a desire
to form utopian communities in order to create model societies in the new world. The overarching
viewpoint was freedom and improvement of the self, however, the difference is that the idea of
freedom from the nineteenth century is much different than that of freedom today. Reforms were
based on the idea that true freedom was an internal phenomenon based on self discipline and control.
Freedom in the nineteenth century, was the moral groundwork that provided the virtue of self
possession and control. In addition, that idea behind most of these reforms was religion which formed
the concept that freedom was not having the choice to sin so that one could be free of sin. This lead to
perfectionism, or the belief that individuals and society were capable of unlimited improvement. This
caused reformers to improve their communities, spurring temperance, education reform, and abolition.

A Christian At The Age Of 14

Coffee quickly became the drink of intellect and industry being known to sharpen the mind. Taverns
were replaced with a more sophisticated meeting place, the coffeehouse. These led to the
establishment of scientific societies and financial institutions, the founding of newspapers, and
provided fertile ground for revolutionary thought. [4] Once established as England s national drink,
tea imports from first China and India led to massive trade. The book describes the power of the
British East India Company, which generated more revenue than the British government and ruled
over far more people,
wielding more power than any other corporation in history. [5] This imbalance of power had an
enormous effect on British foreign policy, and led to the independence of the U.S. Like most of the
drinks discussed in this novel, Coca Cola was originally devised as a medical drink. More than any
other product, Coca Cola has stood as the symbol of America s vibrant consumer capitalism. [4]
Rather than shrink at the challenge, Coca Cola took full advantage of the challenging times it found

becoming a global phenomenon. A History of the World in 6 Glasses is very useful and beneficial to

Machiavelli s The Prince And Socrates
On the heels of the Peloponnesian war, Socrates was blamed for corrupting the youth and
disrespecting the Athenian gods and Athenian values. His defense or Apology and reaction after he
was sentenced to death in Crito demonstrate his most basic philosophy and ideals of what a
government should truly be like. Yet in a vastly different situation, Machiavelli, who lived during the
renaissance of Italy experienced constant shifts of power which he wrote his book, The Prince .
Machiavelli writes about how a leader or prince should conduct himself in order to keep and
efficiently run a republic or principality. Although Socrates texts on the surface deal with his
accusations, the texts give great insight as to how he thinks a government ... Show more content on

18). A true prince in Machiavelli s eyes is someone that the nobles, people, army, and neighboring
states will be dependent on. To Machiavelli humans are by nature power hungry and greedy and that
as long as there is dependence on the prince whether it is due to heredity, fear, or a variety of other
factors, he will remain in power.
Socrates would view Machiavelli s concept of a prince as ignorant and built upon falsehoods as seen
through Machiavelli s explanations of holding new principalities. From the very start of The Prince
Machiavelli explains that hereditary principalities are always easier to rule, because of the fact that it
is sufficient only for the prince to maintain the customs of those who ruled before him (Machiavelli,
Ch. 2). In contrast Socrates in the Apology passionately fights against the status quo. He likens
himself to that as a gadfly of the Athenian state stinging the large horse great and noble steed who is
tardy in his motions owing to his very size, and requires to be stirred into life (Apology, 30e). Socrates
finds that a leader who grows content and maintains customs as those before him is foolish as he does

Walmart And Its Impact On Society
People like to think of Walmart as a store with many varieties, because you can get almost anything
for low prices. Although Walmart is an American retail corporation, there are many branches of
Walmart, not only in the United States but also other places around the globe, making it the largest
company by revenue. Because of its variety in products and worldwide locations, Walmart has a
significant effect on society, both economically and most importantly the impact of environmental
issues. Like many other global industries, Walmart has developed strategic ways in the sustainability
of the environment not only for the environmental issue we face, but also a market strategy which
forms a connection between society and businesses.
Walmart is a business founded by Sam Walton and still owned by the Walton family. The company
was first established in 1962 with the first store opening in Roger Arkansas. Like any thriving
company, it started out as a small business, which was incorporated in 1969 and gradually became the
Walmart we know today. By 1980 Walmart continued to grow with thousands of stores and sales in
billions of dollars, quickly moving to online shopping, and offering its consumers new means of
shopping experiences by the 2000s. Without Sam Walton, all progress made on Walmart today would
not have occurred. Sam Walton said, If we work together we ll lower the cost of living for
everyone...we ll give the world an opportunity to see what it s like to save and have a

Xbox 360 History
Many people have heard of Microsoft. Many people have also heard of their product known as
Windows. Windows is a computer operating system. Even though Microsoft only worked on
computers, they released their first ever video game console known as the Xbox in late 2001. The
Xbox had newer, upgraded versions of the console later on such as the Xbox 360 in 2005 and the
Xbox One in 2013. The idea of the Xbox first started when Kevin Bachus, Seamus Blackley, Otto
Berkes, and Ted Hase were working on developing the DirectX. The DirectX was a set of API s
(application programming interfaces) that was introduced by Microsoft in 1995 which encouraged
videogame developers to embrace their Windows operating system. These men approached Bill ...

This was good, however, it had some consequences. When the Xbox 360 was released as quickly as
possible, huge, technical problems with the console caused Microsoft to replace or repair most of the
consoles. This made video game designers learn valuable lessons about taking time with their products
(Lasky). There were many different designs of the Xbox 360, such as the Pro, Premium, Elite, and
Arcade (Loguidice). There are two current Xbox 360 S (slim) models which are the Xbox 360 250GB
and the Xbox 360 4GB. These models are similar because they both include 5 USB (universal serial
bus) 2.0. ports and a custom port for the Kinect sensor. They also have optical digital audio with built
in WiFi (Loguidice). They also are sleeker, smaller, and run quieter and cooler than their predecessors
( Loguidice). The Xbox 360 4GB and the Xbox 360 250GB are also different. The Xbox 360 4GB (as
the name implies) has 4GB of storage. This is enough for playing physical copies of games, but not
for downloaded games. A hard drive can be purchased to get more space though. This model also costs
$100 less than the Xbox 360 250GB. The Xbox 360 250GB model includes a 250GB hard drive and a
headset. It costs $100 more than the Xbox 360 4GB

Integrated Science
Integrated Science Energy in a system may be transformed so that it resides in a different state. Energy
in many states may be used to do many varieties of physical work. Energy may be used in natural
processes or machines, or else to provide some service to society (such as heat, light, or motion). For
example, an internal combustion engine converts the potential chemical energy in gasoline and oxygen
into heat, which is then transformed into the propulsive energy (kinetic energy that moves a vehicle).
A solar cell converts solar radiation into electrical energy that can then be used to light a bulb or
power a computer. In the modern world we use energy for anything such as to power our house, to
drive our car, cellphones and many other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oil development is really advanced because we use it to power cars, trains, airplanes and we make
lots of household products with it. While oil is our main sources of energy, the world reserve of oil is
running extremely low. The big companies needs to develop other ways to provide energy to the world
population and to use other materials than plastic and other oil based products. Solar and wind energy
are two popular alternative energy to fossil fuels. Personally I really like the solar energy source of
energy because its free, clean and anybody can used it, But the only problem with solar energy is the
development of saving it is very slow and not really reliable. Some houses in Florida use solar energy
but it s not 100 % efficient because they still have to rely on the electric company or gas powered
generator to recharge batteries. Developing solar energy to be more efficient and cheaper lots of
developing countries will have an easier and faster way to provide electricity. Wind technology is
another clean and safe way to power homes, cities, countries. Wind technology is not available as
solar technology but they need to make it more available to people and if they want to go away from
coal and oil they need to develop it more to provide a clean and safer way to provide electricity to the

For boys and girls alike, the initial trip to the potty (a bowl used by small children as a toilet) remains
a huge deal for both the baby and the parent. It tells us, the parents that our little one is currently
displaying signs of independence. Your little one may show interest in a basic potty, a potty that sings
when you pretend to flush it or in using a standard toilet. Either way, this demonstrates to you that
your baby is now on the right track in the beginning phase of toilet training. In addition to your eager

The Status Of A Woman Essay
I d like to start my Essay with famous quote of Virgina Woolf, which goes as, Women have served all
these centuries as looking glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of reflecting the figure of
man at twice it s natural Size The topic that I ve chosen for my essay is The Status of A Woman in
South Indian or specifically Malayalam Cinema. The first question the arises in my mind while
watching any Malayalam movie is why does the nationally and internationally acclaimed Malayalam
or for that matter any South Indian Cinema fail to represent women s experiences, Why are The
Female leads just subjected to basic chores, or as an object of desire? Me being a Woman find it very
disturbing to see woman being labelled in the same umbrella. Indian cinema has always been under
the line of fire for its potrayal of women as objects of desire. Be it in the case of Mandakini, Parveen
Babi or the current crop of actresses. From Sheila Ki Jawaani to Munni ki Badnaami , its usually
women who are utilized as objects of desire and sexual objects. The situation is no different in Indian
culture where In reality the birth of a girl child is frowned and looked down upon with disrespect in
some parts of India and shockingly even among elite and educated Indians, whereas the Birth of a boy
is celebrated. Indian Cinema as a whole is the biggest culprit here as the reach and impact by
Commercial films is the most and it is very disheartening that such an industry still uses or turns

Housing Issues Of Affordable Housing
Affordable housing has become the paramount issue of cities and dense urban areas. San Francisco is
the posterchild of an unaffordable city that regardless of immense investment from blue chip firms
like Google, Facebook, and their ilk of startups evaluated at $1 billion or more, policymakers and
elected officials must wrestle with the housing affordability crisis that is considered endogenous to
swaths of homelessness and record statistics on crime. In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio has
made affordable housing the centerpiece of his legislation and championed the cause as a social justice
issue neighborhoods must remain affordable to maintain diversity for all races, ethnicities, and low
income families. A small sample of 827 New Yorkers by the NY1 Baruch College City Poll found the
main concern of respondents was affordable housing while crime, jobs, and homelessness were
peripheral problems (Cuza, 2016). The public discourse on how to address housing across the United
States has pointed to negative externalities that surround rent regulation and homeownership.
Conversely, for this essay I will present various cases in order to illustrate the housing crunch is
influenced less by housing and land regulations, or antagonistic homeowners but is induced by global
market forces.
What is known about the dearth of inexpensive living spaces in high cost, heavy populated areas is its
scarcity is a function of supply. Demand remains a non issue for policy makers as demand has

Muscular Contributions And Hip And Knee Extension During...
The article Muscular contributions to hip and knee extension during the single limb stance phase of
normal gait: a Theoretical Framework for Crouch Gait by Allison Arnold, Frank Anderson, Marcus
Pandy, and Scott Delp investigates the biomechanics of normal gait in hopes to uncover ideas to help
determine treatments for crouch gait. Crouch gait is a bothersome abnormality that affects the gait
pattern of people who suffer from the condition of cerebral palsy. It s characterized by excessive
flexion of the hips and knees during standing and excessive use of metabolic energy to complete a
single gait cycle. Currently, the treatments for this condition are limited and have unpredictable
outcomes due to the unknown biomechanical causes of the excessive flexion in crouch gait. These
treatments include surgical lengthening of hamstrings, ankle foot orthoses, and intense stretching
regimens, with patients experiencing results ranging from no improvement in their symptoms to
dramatic improvements. The vast array of results from treatments are due to the little understanding
medical professionals have of not only abnormal gait patterns (such as crouch gait) but of normal gait
as well (Arnold, Anderson, Pandy, and Delp, 2005). Despite the article s title relating to crouch gait,
the purpose of the study conducted was to examine and quantify the accelerations of normal hip and
knee movements that were induced by specific muscles during the single limb stance phase and to
rank these

The Novel Feed
A Perfect Dystopia
The novel Feed by M.T. Anderson is about the dystopian future where the internet is constantly
feeding into the characters brains and is something that they ultimately cannot live without . Titus, one
of the main characters in the book, starts off on going on a trip to the moon with several of his friends.
The moon is a place that is advertised on the feed as this marvelous place to visit, full of laughter,
parties, loud music, and lights, but Titus views the moon as dull, lifeless and dismal. This reveals Titus
s personality, as he is coming to hook up with someone in the same intimate status as himself. Which
he meets a girl who he watches from a distance and concludes she is perfect. Her name is Violet, and it

The distinct parenting styles throughout Feed reveal how parental guidance impacts children s identity
and emotional stability.
The lack of nourishment from their parents causes the children in feed to lose a sense of identity and
have a need for new consumer goods on the market. Denied an education, the young people of Feed
are trained not as citizens but as consumers, while shadowy political forces seek to undermine the
corrupt world of the novel. In effect, then, the dystopian setting of feed is a state of emptiness where
the young are offered consumerism as a substitute for participation in citizenship (Braddford 129). It
is like today s new generations that are constantly on their phones; people cannot live without them.
Author Anne Marrie Hacht describes, [I]n Feed, he turns his attention to a future that any modern
reader would recognize. Shopping is the rage. Television and computers are popular; they are so
popular, in fact, that everyone is equipped with a direct brain connection to them at birth (1). The
advertisements that are streamed on the feed twist the truth and draw the characters away from reality.
Titus receives a glimpse of reality when he travels to the moon, he says, I remember that in the
banners looked goldy and sparkling, but as we walked down to the luggage, all the air vents were
streaked with black (Anderson 8). However Violet, Titus s girlfriend, has a different view on the
world.

Overview
Hello and thank you for your request for customer service design principles with a focus on
reasonability. The short answer is allowing those on the front lines of the customer experience to be
trained and have as much power to accommodate and help the customer as possible. Another key area
is to find ways to educate the customer. This allows them to get more out of the product and also has

educating their customers, so they get the most out of their products. User education provided a better,
useful experience, and many potential problems were bypassed as a result. This is mirrored by
StudioPress with their detailed tutorials.
AMAZON
Amazon is notable for use of cutting edge technology but also convenience. A combination of these
two involves the use of their new grocery stores, using technology to get rid of checkout lines, where a
customer simply takes the product they want, and walks out the door.
RITZ CARLTON
The Ritz Carlton likes to engender relationships between staff and customers, and allows their staff
enough space to enhance the customer experience. An example of this is when a chef at one of their
resorts had his own mother fly in a special product for some guests that were staying at the hotel for
an extended period.
PUBLIX
Publix, as a privately held, employee owned company, gives their own people a stake in the company.

The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American...
The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American Poetry
The beloved poet, Carl Sandburg, changed the course of American poetry.
He was a poet, novelist, journalist, and songwriter, yet the influence of his works have not always
been acknowledged. Carl Sandburg s evocations of American urban and rural life, compassion for
people, and his love of nature, through his works have made an enormous contribution to the
American literary scene. Carl Sandburg was born on January 6, 1878 to illiterate parents of
Swedish decent in Galesburg, Illinois. Much of Sandburg s literary works are a result of his life time
observations. He, more generously than many of his fellow authors, left a detailed account of his
wanderings, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sandburg is too interested in the half tones of humanity, the highlights of humor, the terse queerness.
He is interested in atmosphere....The new sapience, it seems to me, is what Sandburg fails to show.
(clc 35,347) Now, on the other hand Amy Lowell, another critic, has a complete opposite view on the
poem s by Carl Sandburg. The seeing eye Mr. Sandburg has it to a superlative degree, and wedded to
it, an imaginative utterance which owes nothing whatever to literature or tradition. It is a fascinating
and baffling study this of examining how Mr. Sandburg does it....It is, more than anything else, the
sharp, surprising rightness of his descriptions which gives Mr.
Sandburg his high position in the poetry of today. (clc 35,341) These critics views are on the extreme
opposite sides of the scale.
Benet feels Sandburg s poetry is uncohesive, unstructured, and just not sapient.
While Lowell feels his poetry is imaginative and fascinating, along with baffling. If Sandburg were
alive to read the analysis of his poetry by the critics, he probably would have writing a poem about it.
It would have fascinated him, how two people could have such opposite views. In The People,
Yes, a large percentage of the poem is based on the different views and values of people in our society.
Chicago is another one of Carl Sandburg s well known poem s,

Summary Of Theodore Roethke s Depiction Of Nature
Theodore Roethke s Depiction of Nature We live in a day and age where many people are more
focused on the screens in their pockets than on the world around them. It goes without saying that
people s lack of connection with the outside world and underappreciation of its beauty are two of the
issues we face in this nowadays. When it comes to the poet, Theodore Roethke, however, he is not one
of the individuals who is faced with this problem. Due to spending much of his childhood in a
greenhouse owned by his father, Roethke has always been inspired by and had a keen eye for objects
and occurrences in nature (www.biography.com). The poems, The Sloth , Night Journey , and
Selections from I am! Said the lamb , by Theodore Roethke, encompasses clever rhyme, skilled
syntax, and insightful imagery in order to portray different concepts about nature. Roethke s poem,
The Sloth , describes the slowness of sloths and their careless attitudes by using literary devices to
accentuate examples of them being so. The poem points out that sloths are very sleepy animals, and so
off to sleep again [it] goes,/ still swaying gently by [its] toes, from the tree it was resting in
(Roethke...The 10 11). The quick witted rhyme helps to paint a picture in the reader s mind of the
relationship between the sloth and the tree. Roethke did a spectacular job of representing that
relationship in nature by putting an emphasis on the fact that the sloth is currently dependant on the
tree to feel safe enough to fall asleep. Not only are sloths exceptionally sleepy, but they are also
considered to have very Ex as per at ing personalities (Roethke...The 7). Roethke s conscious use of
intelligent syntax places ample emphasis on the word to point out the slowness in which the sloth
moves. The literary device helps to express how even though the creature easily ruffles feathers, it also
frustrates people by getting under their skin at a snail s pace. Since sloths are slow, Roethke also
points out how they can be lonely and how when they are [they will] sigh and give [their] branch a
hug; for comfort (Roethke... The 9). It communicates that they are very solitary creatures who often
like to travel alone. The whimsical imagery also describes

Raphael Lemkin s Radov Architect Of The Bosnian Genocide
Raphael Lemkin coined the word genocide and lobbied for his entire life to have the world prevent as
well as punish genocide. Eventually, in 1948, the United Nations adopted Lemkin s work and
promised to prevent genocide from happening again, but they failed on several occasions, most
notably in 1992, when a genocide was carried out in Bosnia. This genocide was orchestrated by
Radovan Karadžić. Robert Donia s book, Radovan Karadžić: Architect of the Bosnian Genocide, goes

However, three genocides took place throughout the world and nothing was done to prevent it, making
Lemkin a failure. That being said, Karadžić s trial was a great triumph for the United Nations and was
likened to the Nuremberg trials of former Nazi leaders. Many decades have passed since the world
agreed to Lemkin s idea to stop this atrocious crime. Radovan Karadžić s trial caused a turning point
for the world because genocide was finally being punished. It may have reminded the world of the
forgotten promise they made back in 1948. Karadžić s trial proved that the world would punish this
evil crime, thus upholding the protection of human rights. In addition, this ultimately marked the first
ever genocide conviction in Europe and fulfilled Lemkin s life long goal. If another sinister deed is
executed that involves the mass extermination of a group of people, there is hope that the United
Nations will carry out Lemkin s dream of preventing it and bringing those responsible like Karadžić to

Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Essay
Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Birth of the MPAA Ratings System
The 1960s were a volatile time and an important season of change in American history. The
revolutions in social mores that the country experienced extended to the cinema. Previously, films
sought the endorsement of production associations and religious organizations. That trend began to be
challenged by bold directors and their films that earned success without the approval of these
establishments. With its brash dialogue and suggestive situations, Mike Nichols screen adaptation of
Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? caused controversy by continuing the radical movements of films in
the 50 s and 60 s, leading to content changes as well the advisory of who should see it. Along with
other films that came before it, this led to the creation of the MPAA ratings system to classify films

  • 2. The Domination Of Merchants And Land Lawyers Essay Montejano Reading: The Domination of Merchants and Land Lawyers David Montejano approaches the incorporation of Texas from the least romantic and colorful perspective of the merchants and land lawyers , noting that these capital based and export oriented... frontier folk were the region s principal architects (15). From strategic incorporation of Anglos into Mexican landed elite to the political exclusion of Texas Mexicans, and from the development of commercial agriculture to driving Mexicans from their land through coercion and fraud, both Anglo merchants and land lawyers become abrasive actors in the Texan narrative. Driven by manifest destiny and a superiority complex, Anglos routinely denied Mexicans, who were the original land owners and inhabitants of the region, economic, political and social rights, eventually leading up to the modern state of Texas. With the Rio Grande as an attractive opportunity for trade from Sante Fe and southward, many attempts to tap into the potential proved unsuccessful including the use of steamboats. Instead, the lower Rio Grande and the port of Matamoros became a point of much contention since silver bullion, lead, wool, his and beef tallow were produced in the region. The attempts to commercialize the Rio Grande peaked during the early 1800s, when, shortly after, two major US military expeditions ensued in attempts to claim the territory. Nueces Strip, a practically worthless stretch of land framed by the Rio Grande in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The World Is Too Much With Us Essay We all think that we appreciate the nature around us, but do we really? How often do we spend time sitting out on the grass, bird watching? Even if we do, can we sit for more than five minutes without our tasks rushing back into our mind? In The World is Too Much with Us, William Wordsworth touches upon this idea of excessive greed and our refusal to allow nature around us into our every day life. This poem discusses Wordsworth s ongoing frustration with the world around him. We are not paying attention to nature, but instead are focused on getting and spending . The recurring theme of excessive materialism flows through every line, all very relatable to the modern day. We are out of tune with the world, out of touch with our own spirituality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know that there are a lot of positive aspects of the internet, and when used properly, it can be beneficial. However, there are many people my age who rely on this for nearly all aspects of their lives, and that results in a too dependent generation. A lot of the people around me don t know what it is like to go somewhere without their cell phone. We have forgotten what it is like to sit down on a park bench and observe our surroundings for thirty minutes. I think this has affected how millennials socially interact with others. Scrolling through my timeline on social media, I see people bragging about their possessions and the cost of the watch on their wrist. Rather than enjoying the sun or the rain, they are on their phones, trying to get the perfect camera shot. The world of social media has become a world of instant gratification. Wordsworth s stance on the modern world is all too similar to the modern world today. Although cell phones weren t around during his time, the feeling wa still the same. I believe this will always be the case, and every few years there will be another distraction. The best thing we can do for ourselves is make sure that we don t get too carried away by this world that is too much with us. Having these new technologies are fun and beneficial to a certain extent, but we must remember that everything should be at a nice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When performing my experiment I will come across various health and safety issues. One of them would be spilling acid on my hand. To prevent this I will be using syringes to measure out the correct amount of HCL. This will prevent any spillage of HCL. Also another heath and safety risk would be having Na2S2O3 get into any open cuts I have. To prevent this I will cover all open cuts I have. Moreover there is a chance that when reacting HCL with Na2S2O3 the gases produced could get in my eye and cause my eye to become irritant. So to prevent this I will wear safety goggles so the gases produces can not get into me eyes. When I conduct my experiment I think that as the concentration of HCL increases. The time taken for the HCL to react with Na2S2O3 will increase. I think this will happen because of the collision theory (1) the more collisions in a system, the more likely combinations of molecules will happen. This helps understand that if we increase the concentration of HCL then the more likely there will be combination of molecules hitting each other at a faster rate meaning that if there are more collisions of molecules this would speed up a reaction by every molar the HCL goes up by. I will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first time the audience see the bridge, in the train bridge scene, it is a long shot of the boys and the tracks streched out infront of them. This angle makes the boys seen small and weak. This idea is re inforced when the boys look anxious and their voices shake slightly. • 11. Analysis Of The Brown House By Hisaye Yamamoto Hisaye Yamamoto, a Japanese American author, composed a collection of short stories titled, Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories. These collection of short stories describes the experiences Japanese Americans undergo while residing in America. The Japanese American culture that Yamamoto introduces has three types of generations. The first one being, the Issei, the second one being, the Nisei and the third one being, the Sensei. All three Japanese generations are described in Yamamoto s short story cycle, which shows the relationship between Japanese Americans as well as with other ethnic groups. The major themes Yamamoto highlights within her novel defines the idea of what it is like to be Japanese American through the difficulties that Japanese immigrants face in America, the cultural separation between these immigrants and their children as well as restrictions that Japanese women face within their traditional Japanese culture. The Brown House , a short story within Yamamoto s novel, Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories, depicts the three themes that were previously mentioned above. • 13. The Causes Of Gas Exchange 1 GAS EXCHANGE 4 Gas exchange Gas Exchange Leslie A. Rouse El Centro College Gas Exchange Gas exchange is defined as the process by which oxygen is transported to cells and carbon dioxide is transported from cells (Giddens, 2013, p.161). Gas exchange in the human body occurs in the lungs and as the primary function of the respiratory system, it exchanges two gases, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The process of gas exchange happens as we breathe through ventilation, transport and perfusion. As you inhale oxygen, the oxygen travels deep into the lungs until it reaches the alveoli. Here in the alveoli oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse across the alveolar capillary membrane. Oxygen is able to enter into the blood while carbon dioxide is leaving the blood as waste to be exhaled from the lungs and out of the body. This oxygenated blood is then transported throughout the body. All cells depend on a consistent supply of oxygen and removal of waste in order to survive. A reduction or lack of oxygen and/or buildup of waste leads to demise. For this reason, gas exchange is critical. Gas exchange is compromised when there is impairment of ventilation, altered transport of oxygen, or inadequate perfusion. Impaired ventilation may occur in conditions such as inadequate muscle or nerve function to move air into the lungs, such as cervical spinal cord injury; narrowed airways from bronchoconstriction like in asthma, or from obstruction like in chronic bronchitis; poor gas diffusion in ... With the two candidates running this year Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump it is no surprise it brings up such a dispute. In 2012, almost 130 million Americans casted a vote for the presidential election. The overarching viewpoint was freedom and improvement of the self, however, the difference is that the idea of freedom from the nineteenth century is much different than that of freedom today. Reforms were based on the idea that true freedom was an internal phenomenon based on self discipline and control. Freedom in the nineteenth century, was the moral groundwork that provided the virtue of self possession and control. In addition, that idea behind most of these reforms was religion which formed the concept that freedom was not having the choice to sin so that one could be free of sin. To Machiavelli humans are by nature power hungry and greedy and that as long as there is dependence on the prince whether it is due to heredity, fear, or a variety of other factors, he will remain in power. Socrates would view Machiavelli s concept of a prince as ignorant and built upon falsehoods as seen through Machiavelli s explanations of holding new principalities. From the very start of The Prince Machiavelli explains that hereditary principalities are always easier to rule, because of the fact that it is sufficient only for the prince to maintain the customs of those who ruled before him (Machiavelli, Ch. 2). (clc 35,347) Now, on the other hand Amy Lowell, another critic, has a complete opposite view on the poem s by Carl Sandburg. The seeing eye Mr. Sandburg has it to a superlative degree, and wedded to it, an imaginative utterance which owes nothing whatever to literature or tradition. It is a fascinating and baffling study this of examining how Mr. Sandburg does it....It is, more than anything else, the sharp, surprising rightness of his descriptions which gives Mr. Sandburg his high position in the poetry of today. (clc 35,341) These critics views are on the extreme opposite sides of the scale. Benet feels Sandburg s poetry is uncohesive, unstructured, and just not sapient. While Lowell feels his poetry is imaginative and fascinating, along with baffling. If Sandburg were alive to read the analysis of his poetry by the critics, he probably would have writing a poem about it. It would have fascinated him, how two people could have such opposite views. In The People, Yes, a large percentage of the poem is based on the different views and values of people in our society. Chicago is another one of Carl Sandburg s well known poem s, ... • 33. Summary Of Theodore Roethke s Depiction Of Nature Theodore Roethke s Depiction of Nature We live in a day and age where many people are more focused on the screens in their pockets than on the world around them. It goes without saying that people s lack of connection with the outside world and underappreciation of its beauty are two of the issues we face in this nowadays. When it comes to the poet, Theodore Roethke, however, he is not one of the individuals who is faced with this problem. Due to spending much of his childhood in a greenhouse owned by his father, Roethke has always been inspired by and had a keen eye for objects and occurrences in nature (www.biography.com). The poems, The Sloth , Night Journey , and Selections from I am! Said the lamb , by Theodore Roethke, encompasses clever rhyme, skilled syntax, and insightful imagery in order to portray different concepts about nature. Roethke s poem, The Sloth , describes the slowness of sloths and their careless attitudes by using literary devices to accentuate examples of them being so. The poem points out that sloths are very sleepy animals, and so off to sleep again [it] goes,/ still swaying gently by [its] toes, from the tree it was resting in (Roethke...The 10 11). The quick witted rhyme helps to paint a picture in the reader s mind of the relationship between the sloth and the tree. Roethke did a spectacular job of representing that relationship in nature by putting an emphasis on the fact that the sloth is currently dependant on the tree to feel safe enough to fall asleep. Not only are sloths exceptionally sleepy, but they are also considered to have very Ex as per at ing personalities (Roethke...The 7). Roethke s conscious use of intelligent syntax places ample emphasis on the word to point out the slowness in which the sloth moves. The literary device helps to express how even though the creature easily ruffles feathers, it also frustrates people by getting under their skin at a snail s pace. Since sloths are slow, Roethke also points out how they can be lonely and how when they are [they will] sigh and give [their] branch a hug; for comfort (Roethke... The 9). It communicates that they are very solitary creatures who often like to travel alone. The whimsical imagery also describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Raphael Lemkin s Radov Architect Of The Bosnian Genocide Raphael Lemkin coined the word genocide and lobbied for his entire life to have the world prevent as well as punish genocide. Eventually, in 1948, the United Nations adopted Lemkin s work and promised to prevent genocide from happening again, but they failed on several occasions, most notably in 1992, when a genocide was carried out in Bosnia. This genocide was orchestrated by Radovan Karadžić. Robert Donia s book, Radovan Karadžić: Architect of the Bosnian Genocide, goes into chronicling the life of Radovan Karadžić and seeks to understand how he went from a man of great ability and immense promise, to eventually transform himself into the architect of the worst atrocities in Europe since the Second World War by unequivocally embracing ... That being said, Karadžić s trial was a great triumph for the United Nations and was likened to the Nuremberg trials of former Nazi leaders. Many decades have passed since the world agreed to Lemkin s idea to stop this atrocious crime. Radovan Karadžić s trial caused a turning point for the world because genocide was finally being punished. It may have reminded the world of the forgotten promise they made back in 1948. Karadžić s trial proved that the world would punish this evil crime, thus upholding the protection of human rights. In addition, this ultimately marked the first ever genocide conviction in Europe and fulfilled Lemkin s life long goal. If another sinister deed is executed that involves the mass extermination of a group of people, there is hope that the United Nations will carry out Lemkin s dream of preventing it and bringing those responsible like Karadžić to ... Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Essay Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Birth of the MPAA Ratings System The 1960s were a volatile time and an important season of change in American history. The revolutions in social mores that the country experienced extended to the cinema. Previously, films sought the endorsement of production associations and religious organizations. That trend began to be challenged by bold directors and their films that earned success without the approval of these establishments. With its brash dialogue and suggestive situations, Mike Nichols screen adaptation of Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? caused controversy by continuing the radical movements of films in the 50 s and 60 s, leading to content changes as well the advisory of who should see it. Along with other films that came before it, this led to the creation of the MPAA ratings system to classify films based on content.
