Politeness And Its Impact On The Early Nineteenth Century
As a result of the term politeness being mainly used as a verbal fixture in the eighteenth century, it
was frequently used in a vacuous manner resulting in its adding relatively little to both the general
notions of correctness and refinement (Stein van Ostade, 1994). However, during the early part of
the eighteenth century, there is significant evidence of the term politeness having a definite and
specific set of resonances. The importance of investigating the notion of politeness in the early
eighteenth century is that although the main idiom of politeness is seen to have generally been
cultivated in a number of important ways by numerous writers during the restoration decades, it has
been mainly crystallised during the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, politeness was generally used to help in evoking a
vision of culture and social life, which is considered to be appropriate to modern times. This vision
of politeness, linking cultural refinement and moral improvement, was epitomised in gentlemanly
and urbane conversations (Stein van Ostade, 1994). Politeness was found to be mainly a refined
condition of social interactions (Atkinson, 1999), while social politeness was found to be
paradigmatically conversational. Conversational politeness attempts to pursue verbal agreeableness
that is essentially captured in a characteristic vocabulary in the form of phrases and words, such as
soft, natural, easy and never tiresome (Stein van Ostade, 1994).Thus, although the actual origins of
the subject of politeness were mainly on the basis of social interactions, politeness eventually came
to take an essentially exemplary role for general conversations in written discourse. Polite texts
were deemed to be specifically conversational in nature. The actual pace of commenting on the
English language was remarkably quickened in the late seventeenth through to the eighteenth
century. Though a large number of language related texts were published during this period as a
result of advancements in printing (Kernan, 1989), there were new concerns with the notion of

writing with his beautiful writing style.Shakespeare s writing was remarkable in his era and is still
amazing now.Shakespeare had risen above average writing standards.Furthermore, Shakespeare
revolutionised writing,making his plays unforgettable.
William Shakespeare was born on April 23,1564 in Stratford upon Avon,England. He was raised in
Stratford upon Avon along with eight siblings (who tragically died during infancy) and his mother
(Mary Aden) and father (John Shakespeare).William was born English and was born into the era
of the Renaissance and Early Modern. His father,John Shakespeare, owned a shop which made
gloves.His mother,Mary Aden,was a farmer s daughter.John was soon enough an alderman
(council) then was elected bailiff (mayor) which was the highest honor a Stratford resident could
get! By the age of seven, William was attending Stratford grammar school with other people of
their social class (middle class). The school mostly studied Latin.Knowing Latin could help you get

Limitations Of Body Weight Exercise
Bodyweight training has been a popular form of exercise for decades, especially when it comes
to group exercise classes and workout videos. It can certainly be an effective form of exercise, but
bodyweight training programs are often designed without really considering the many different
types of people who perform the workouts. Bodyweight exercises are typically assumed to be
appropriate for everyone, but that is not exactly true.
Since bodyweight exercises do not use external resistance (weights, bands, etc.), people usually do
not think about them having a numerical difficulty or weight value. As a result, bodyweight
exercises are thought of as essentially being one size fits all with a person s weight being the
correct amount for the exercise. There is a major flaw with this way of thinking, because
bodyweight exercises do have weight just like any other form of resistance training. The difference
is that instead of holding or supporting an external weight, the resistance of each exercise is
determined by a percentage of your bodyweight.
Therefore, each exercise does have a numerical resistance/weight value, even though you will not
know the exact amount when performing the exercise. The important thing to realize is every
bodyweight exercise puts a specific amount of stress on your muscles and as with every other type
of exercise, the difficulty of bodyweight exercises should appropriately match your ability level
and your goals. If the difficulty of the exercise is not

A Short Note On The Salinity Crisis And Its Effects On The...
The Messinian Salinity Crisis, most commonly referred to as MSC, is considered to be one of
the most dramatic events to occur in the geology of the world in about twenty million years. The
Messinian Salinity Crisis is essentially when the Mediterranean Sea dried up completely. The sea
began to dry up approximately 6 million years ago and ended around 5.3 million years ago. Prior
to the drying of the sea, the sea level in the oceans had dropped about 70 meters because of global
cooling which led to the glaciers and icebergs. Because of this, the connection between the Atlantic
Oceanand Mediterranean Seahad become nonexistent and the Mediterranean could not depend on
the Atlantic for the source of water. With the Mediterranean Sea being... Show more content on

The two types of salts that were deposited on the floor were Halite and Gypsum. Some of the salt
deposits were as deep as 800 meters which is equivalent to 2,500 feet. The scientists were baffled
by this discovery, thus leading to numerous investigations about where these salt deposits came
from. Some of the scientists believe that environmental changes like the Mediterranean Salinity
Crisis, could quite possibly have a larger affect than what is assumed. Scientist believe that it could
having an impact on the global level.
The Mediterranean Salinity Crisis is said to have occurred in three stages. The first stage was
when the, evaporites precipitated in shallow sub basins. Basically, this is when natural salt build
us in the sub basin after the evaporation of a body of water. During the second stage, evaporite
precipitation is shifted to the deepest depocentres. Essentially all of the salts moved to the bottom
of the basin. This is what the oil drillers were drilling into when they discovered the large salt
deposits at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The third stage is considered to be the large scale
environmental fluctuations in the Mediterranean transformed into brackish water lake. The idea
behind this stage is that it basically the erosion that occurred after all of the water was gone. This
erosion then led to the breaking of the barrier between the basin and the Atlantic Ocean. The

J.P. Morgan and Ragtime Essay
John Pierpont Morgan:
The turn of the century in American, when E.L. Doctorow s novel Ragtime is set, was a time
marked by rapid technological developments and industrialization. These years also brought a
heavy flood of immigrants as well as an increasingly urban American landscape. Technological
advancements enabled increased efficiency and mass production. However, Doctorow clearly brings
into question the consequences of this new technology for the average American worker. J.P.
Morgan s discussion with Henry Ford about the assembly line s innovations brings this debate to
the front. Doctorow writes, quot; From these principles Ford established the final proposition of the

career. In 1860, Morgan left Duncan, Sherman and founded J. P. Morgan and Company to act as

London house. Pierpont now was able to control all the dealing between the New York based firm

Pierpont was now at the head of houses in New York, Philadelphia, London, and Paris. He was
the commanding figure in international finance. In 1869, a war over railroads began, including
Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, both famous financiers. Gould already had dominant control over the
Erie railroad and began to buy up stock in the Albany amp; Susquehanna Railroad. Morgan
developed into the nation s railroad reorganizer. In 1886, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad
was in great difficulty with a deficit of six million dollars a year. Morgan was brought in to slash
the value of the watered stock, reduce interest rates on the bonds, and assess the shareholders for
more money. 1888, J.P. Morgan was again called on to reorganize railroads in the east. He

Trinity College Exam Hall Classical
Classical architecture is a language that speaks to us with antiquity. The Exam Hall, once Theatre,
on the campus of Trinity College Dublin can be viewed as a neo classical building, built during
the Georgian era. Neo classical architecture is the revival of Greek and Roman classicism that took
place in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This revival of architecture as James Adams, a
famous English architect said, was ready to seize with some degree of success, the beautiful spirit
of antiquity, which is quintessentially seen in the Exam Hall. The exterior of the Exam Hall

In comparing the Exam Hall to renowned neo classical buildings we can deduce that we are
rightful in describing Trinity College Dublin s Exam Hall as being classical . Chamber s classical
style shined in much of his work, specifically the exam hall. Trinity Colleges Exam Hall can be
described as classical because it is built following the guidelines of Corinthian Order. During the
period of classical architecture the Greeks founded the original three orders Doric, Ionic, and
Corinthian different classical styles of building that followed certain rules and mathematical ratios.
The Romans adopted these orders and made them their own. Roman Corinthian Order is the style of
the Exam Hall. The most distinctive element is the columns, which support an entablature. The
Exam Halls columns contain smooth unfluted shafts made from Portland Stone, a highly sought
after stone at the time. The column capital is ornate as all classical capitals are. The capital is
decorated with acanthus leaves and small volutes. There is also a fleuron in the center of the
abacus, which lie atop the column capital. The capitals are also made of Portland stone. The
entablature, being held up by the columns, contains three discrete elements that are classical in
architecture. The Exam Hall exemplifies all three of these elements. The architrave and frieze are
found to be smooth while the cornice contains dentils,

Romanticism In The Boarded Window
Chameleons use camouflage to replicate their surrounding environment in order to disguise
themselves from their malicious predators. They can change into various patterns or colors
depending on the severity of the danger they are faced with. In fact, a chameleon can mask itself
into a rock so that their predator cannot distinguish between themselves and the rock. Chameleons
can mimic various objects, making them appear to be something they are not. Sometimes, things
appear to be one thing, when in reality, they are something utterly dissimilar. After considering the
merits of Realism and Romanticism, Ambrose Bierce s The Boarded Window expresses Realism

Specifically, Murlock enjoys living a simple life and is delighted to be supplied by the sale or
barter of skins of wild animals in the river town (Bierce 16). He is perfectly content in hunting
animals and trading the skin for money, and he doesn t have any ambitions in changing his
lifestyle. Because he is a hunter, he has various kinds of animal skins hanging throughout the
walls of his house. The animal skins have a distinct odor to them, which therefore attract and
captivate other wild animals. Bierce encompasses this to demonstrate that the panther didn t
magically appear in Murlock s home, but was rather attracted to the scent of the dead animals
which provides a realistic explanation as to how the panther waltzed into his home aimlessly.
Moreover, when Murlock s wife becomes ill and he has the task of nursing her back to health,

medical judgement. However, his wife never died, but he unintentionally thought she did. So, when
the dead wife gets off the table while the panther is near, she doesn t return from the dead, she was
always alive.

How Did The Causes Of China Lead To Economic Success
With a gross domestic product (GDP) calculated at the equivalent of $11.06 trillion and an average
growth rate of 1.84 percent, China has the potential to surpass the United States economy by the
year 2030 (citation 1). China s rapid GDP growth is caused mainly by state investment, high
exportation, and successes with e commerce (citation 2). However, Chinawas not always a country
eager to open its doors to economic opportunity. Instead, the government strove to maintain self
dependency and to limit influence from other countries. Through the decades of isolation, many
countries attempted to gain trade relations with China. These attempts usually were unsuccessful. It

Narrative Essay About Moving To Canada
As I walked to the parking lot where my mom had arrived to pick me up from school, my sister
ran out of the car, ran towards me and yelled excitedly, We re going to Canada! Having grown up
in Kuwait for my whole life of 15 years, I could hardly believe my sister s words. Going to
Canada! I had only been out of the country twice, each time just to vacation and visit family in
the Philippines where both my parents are from. I had always imagined what life would be like
outside of Kuwait, and now it was finally going to be real. My 15 year old self was devastated
We were leaving the only home I had known for 15 years. It did not take long for my sisters
excitement to die when we realized that we would be leaving our friends and everything we ve
ever known and not returning for a long time. Life in Kuwait for 15 years was comfortable and
we were more than financially stable. Moving to Canada without a job offer in place meant that
we would have to start from the beginning all over again. Goodbyes were hard but my parents
encouraged us to see the joys of moving to a place where we could start over and become
accepted citizens of a country. Arriving in Canada, I experienced the biggest culture shock of my
life. Vancouver, BC was cold, wet, and loud. I had thought adjusting would be relatively easy; I
spoke English with a slight accent but I was very shy that it confused some of the other kids to
think I couldn t speak English. I did not understand the culture, which took a

Summary Of West Of Myself By Debora Greger
Among the various structural and thematic elements, Debora Greger s West of Myself provides
a sense of nostalgia and reminiscence of the past. The poem illustrates how life and memory are
not so easily remembered or taken. The speaker of the poem is dramatizing her inner conflict
and chastising herself for the direction her life has taken and where she believes it will befall.
The compelling force for the creation of the work might have been to express memories of living
a life and reflection, looking at life from hindsight. The poem reveals where she once thought the
right way in life was to go and where she now thinks the right way would have been. Equally
essential as the narrative in poetic writing is the overall effect of language structure and description.
Although there is no distinct rhythm or rhyme to this poem, it is through language and structure
that the text is made inviting. In the blank verse, Why are you still seventeen.../ dragging a shadow
you ve found? (1), this metaphor for a borrowed lifestyle facilitates a feeling of lost identity and
nostalgia for the past. By incorporating such language, and by choosing a self proclaimed rhetorical
question, the speaker adds to the effect of personal obscurity. An immense component of the entire
poem are the combined stanzas: that s not the road you want,/ though you have it to yourself. This
emulates the feeling of regret. In continuation of the metaphorical self evaluation of the poem, it
supports the idea

Points of Disagreement
Points of Disagreement
The Golden Rule is an ethical idea shared in various religious texts and different ancient
philosophers statements around the world, and it was paraphrased as What you do not wish done
to yourself, do not do to others . Kwame Anthony Appiah argues in the fifth Chapter (Moral
Disagreement) of his book Cosmopolitanism that the Golden Rule is not as helpful as it might at
first seem , and he gives several examples to support his argument. However, I don t think these
examples are solid enough to overthrow the Golden Rule. Because we can only discuss the pros
and cons of the Golden Rule after we share this idea. Besides, I have a different view toward the
Golden Rule than Appiah. I prefer to believe it is a passive, constricted admonition that keep
society in basic order. The spirit transited by the Golden Rule is especially needed in the society
which is not based on a full fledged legal system, and the Golden Rule is also served as a
necessary ethic principle to guarantee the cross cultural conversation.
Appiah argues that the Golden Rule is hard to be applied in practice because it is hard to
understand and share others values, and the Golden Rule is powerless facing the differences in
values. The example he uses is that a doctor wanted to save his patient s life through blood
transfusion. The problem is that his patient was a racist and the blood came from an African
American. The doctor should not do nothing, however the patient may refuse

A Good Teacher Essay
Who is a teacher and what makes a good teacher? By definition, a teacher is a person who
teaches, especially in school, but can anyone be a teacher? That is a matter of the possession of
qualification and the overall talent utilized whilst on the workforce. Having such qualification
simply doesn t create a good teacher, though. Becoming a good teacher requires work, effort and
time that one must be willing to sacrifice from their daily lives. A good teacher must be able to
teach the students clearly. He/she must be well prepared, whether it is regarding the lesson of the
day or any sudden questions the pupil may ask. A good teacher should have confidence with
themselves and be organized at all times. A good teacher respects his/her job and tries to be as
effective as possible.
But from being a good teacher, there is one higher form of teachers ranking and that is being a
great and effective teacher. Being a good teacher is easy, but being a great teacher requires more
effort than what is usually expected and required. With being a great teacher, teaching is not a job,

and weary yet he sways to and fro to express his conviction of the tune that is being played. He
made that poor piano moan with melody (Hughes 1307). In this line he expresses sadness and
indicates a feeling within himself. In his song, he expresses having no one and being alone. He is
unsatisfied and no longer feels happiness which can be signified by the stars and the moon going
out and him dying as the echoes of his weary blues continue to play. This poem reveals his trials
and tribulations through the blues which represents the aspect of being a true Negro

Authenticity
Final Draft: Slater vs Turkle
How can Turkle s concept of authenticity help us see Slater in a new way?
Both face to face interaction and social networking sites (including Myspace, Twitter, and
Facebook) are forms of staying in contact with friends and family. While Nora from Turkle s Alone
together communicates her engagement and wedding date via email to her closest friends and
family, she could have easily announced it face to face, at a party or through a Facebook event.
While there are many ways of communicating information, the authenticity of these interactions as
well as its importance is up for debate. For Turkle, face to face interaction is to social networking as
the tortoise is to the robot: some can be moved by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The changes are for one temporary: in simply adjust[ing] the settings, turning the frequency,
current, and pulse up or down, one can go from feeling revved to having a peculiar wash of
sadness. (Slater, pages 2 3) In evening Mario out in such a way, it is clear that psychosurgery is
inducing superficial changes that lead to inauthentic interactions. Even the wife notes the
extraordinary change in Mario, remarking You re like the Energizer Bunny upon seeing him go
from a person who would back up at the sight of golden smear of shit to one who can now hear
her breathe...unafraid to hold her hand. (Slater, pages 1 3) The dramatic nature of these
temporary changes is in fact what is most troubling. In Who Holds the Clicker, Heath performs
electrode surgery on a homosexual man. By firing electrodes in his pleasure center while having
him watch movies of heterosexual encounters, he is able to turn said man (identified as B 19) into
a newly made man (Slater, pages 1)within 17 days. Although the electrode surgery on the
homosexual man was supposed to be a good deed, in actuality the homosexual man did not
conserve his individuality. As such, one can see that striving to forge face to face interaction comes
at the expense of yourself. In contrast, technology like Skype, Facebook and/or texting enables
human beings to clearly present themselves on their social networks while allowing human beings
to create or keep connections with others. Facebook profiles

Descriptive Essay About Porto Seguro
Have you ever thought about taking a break from the stressful college life? Want to go to a place
where the food is good, the locals are friendly, and the culture is rich? Porto Seguro is that city.
Located on the northeast coast of Brazil, it is not only a beautiful place with stunning beaches, is
a historical city since is where the Portuguese first arrived in the country. Picture yourself in this
scene. You get out of your hotel, cross the street and you are already with your toes in the sand.
You sit in a nice comfortable chair while drinking a fresh and cold coconut water and when you
finish you dive in the clean, hot atlantic ocean. Considering the place, the people, the culture, and
the activities, there is no better place for college students to take a break from the hard working
student life. The first good aspect about Porto Seguro is the place. Since Porto Seguro is a tourist
town, you can find everything from cheap, comfortable hostels to five stars hotels with a nice
view of the beach and the illuminated buildings around, it only depends on how much you want to
spend. The food has the same range in prices and although there are a lot of cheap fast food
restaurants in the narrow streets, it is worth to spend a little more money and try typical Brazilian
foods like the delicious tapioca, the crunchy acaraje, the hot moqueca, and, of course, the famous
feijoada. The weather is another great thing about the city, the temperature hardly is below 80
Fahrenheit, and it

Compare And Contrast The Valley Of Ashes In The Great Gatsby
Imagine a world where one side of the equator was filled with wealth, happiness, and content.
Now imagine the other side of the equator filled with poverty, sadness, and death. These two
completely opposing halves enhance each other s descriptions and make one think of each side
more deeply about the concept. This same scenario is also present in one of America s favorite
novels based upon the 1920s and the American dream. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great
Gatsby, Fitzgerald juxtaposes two contrasting places, the Valley of Ashes and New York City
, using
imagery to magnify the difference between reality and a fantasy, which is central to the meaning
of the work. The Valley of Ashes is halfway between West Egg of Long Island and New York
City. When one comes upon the Valley of Ashes, it is not what they see, but what they do not
see: sunshine, colors, or a settling feeling. The Valley of Ashes is nothing but a dull location,
filled with unsatisfied farmers, unsuccessful gardens, billowing smoke, and mounds of ashes
that are prominent below the gray skies. Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby,
describes the Valley of Ashes as ...a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and
hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising
smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling
through the powdery air (Fitzgerald 23). Fitzgerald describes this location as unpleasant for
those who enter and it is seen as a vulnerable place due to the billboard of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg
looking upon the location at all times. This descriptive quote foreshadows that something bad
will occur in this area during the novel. As for New York City, in the novel it is defined as the
perfect place to live life to the fullest and not have a care of the world. As a reader, it is expected to
envision this city full of lights as a bright, restless, and colorful place. Nick Carraway depicts
New York City as a ...city rising up across the river in white heaps and sugar lumps all built with
a wish out of non olfactory money. The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city

Literary Analysis Of The Hot Zone By Ebola
The Hot Zone is all about the events that surrounded the outbreak of Ebola that occurred in the
1980s. The story begins when some personnel affiliated with a laboratory facility that conducts
tests on monkeys mishandle the virus, in the process causing risk to the general population. In the
process of containing the disease, Preston indulges in past similar knowledges in the wake of
significant health risk. He (Preston) has adopted the tone of viral panic, vulnerability and regret to
express the unimaginable suffering of victims that were directly and indirectly affected by Ebola.
The book revolves around a couple of scientists and medical practitioners who reflect a vast
experience in hot agents. It was set in the 1980s and uses the point of view of the main character
called Preston to describe the death and exposure of an expatriate from France called Monet
Charles. In his tone he expressed the prevalent themes that came out of the storyline which is
tortures of the victims, death and the human fear attached to it. As a matter of fact, the appeal and
the power of the literature are derived from the fear and suspense that the readers evoke as they
read through. The gory and horrific demise of Charles Monet, Peter Cardinal, and Nurse Mayinga
exposes the audience to the edge with respect to the dread and anticipation of what will ensue in the
case that the virus spreads to the general population.
The tone of viral panic and regret are supported by the dominant feeling of

Hester Street Film Analysis
Dealing with the theme of assimilation, Hester Street, set in 1896 was a depiction of the immigrant
Jewish community living in the Lower East Side of New York City. Throughout the film, we see
the challenges the Jewish immigrant characters endure when their Old World traditions, practices,
and ideas were juxtaposed with the New World, American values. Thus, Hester Street highly
endorses the characters acceptance with assimilating to American values. Furthermore, the film also
showcases the resistance and complications to assimilationas some characters try to maintain their
culture.

The Pros And Cons Of Bedtime Snacks
Many people believe that bedtime snacks are a no no, especially if you want to sleep soundly or
if you want to avoid putting on weight. Some have the notion that food in their stomach will keep
them awake all night or will cause them to have problems with digestion. Others think that
midnight snacking will make them fat. However, sleep experts clarify that the right choice of
foods, the timing and the amount of food you eat just before bedtime can make a difference. In
fact, after a stressful day, certain foods can help you relax before bedtime and can even promote
health and fitness by boosting metabolismwhile you get the right amount of good quality sleep.

Experts recommend avoiding spicy foods, which can cause heartburn at night. Beverages that
contain alcohol or caffeine can also keep you awake or cause you to awaken at night. This also
includes foods that contain chocolate. Sugary foods and beverages will cause spikes in your
blood sugar levels and can keep you awake. It is also best to avoid drinking too many fluids before
bedtime because this might make you have to go to the bathroom at night.
Remember to avoid eating a heavy meal and just keep your bedtime snack light. As you sleep, your
digestive process slows down, and too much food in the stomach may cause its contents to reflux
into the esophagus, causing heartburn or symptoms of indigestion.
Bedtime Snacks for Fitness
People who want to keep fit by undergoing a weight training program usually want to burn excess
fat and build muscle mass. They usually want to eat small, but frequent meals, including a bedtime
snack. This helps their body undergo tissue repair and growth while they sleep. However, they may
want to limit the amount of calories they consume by eating fiber and protein rich foods at

A Summary OfLetters From The Corrugated Castle
In Letters from the Corrugated Castle, a 13 year old girl named Eldora writes a series a letters
describing everything that is going on in her life. She had believed for years that her mother had
passed away when she was quite young. Eldora lived with a very nice couple who had been very
kind and taken Eldora in as their own. Eldora called them Aunt and Uncle. At the beginning of the
story, Aunt, Uncle, and Eldora all packed up their belongings from their home in New Bedford,
Massachusetts and left for a new life in the chaotic city of San Francisco, California.
One day, Eldora received a letter from her mother explaining a lot of unanswered questions.
Eldora was thrilled to know that her mother was not dead, and was alive and quite well. Eldora s
mother said that she would soon come by to pay Eldora a visit and to tell her why she had been
unable to care for her the past few years. However every time she was due to visit, she would
have something come up and not be able to visit. Until after about the 3rd reschedule, when she
was finally able to come into the city for a visit. Eldora was scintillating with happiness and very
eager to see her mother for the first time in what felt like forever. When she saw her mother and

The War On The Front Lines
The refusal to obey orders, or a violent attempt to take control from people of authority. 1 The
Great War was a rugged time for many throughout its duration from July 28, 1914 to November
11, 1918. The speculations and thoughts of the general public and the soldiers in battle behind
the ongoing war changed drastically over the four years. The moral and willpower of the soldiers
declined heavily, and this had a large impact on how the war was fought. Many soldiers captured
their accounts of these changes in journals as diaries and there is one French soldiers diary that
accurately depicts mutiny on the front lines. There is a clear correlation between the changes in
the amount of recruits and supplies available, the manner in which the war was fought, and the
general feelings behind the war as time went on, which caused some soldiers to choose mutiny. At
the beginning of the war, the duties behind what the soldiers had to do were largely appreciated
and they were held above others as heroes. People of warring countries were rushing to battleand
their loved ones were supporting them all of the way. Battalions were even formed from work
groups, as they already withheld an established chain of command, the members had a close knit
bond, and there was a charismatic feeling about representing the country they worked in. The
glorified fighting and risking of one s life was soon changed.
The way the war was fought also fiercely changed. The battle techniques early on in 1914

The movie Thirteen Days is 2000 docudrama and is directed by Roger Donaldson who is

Special Assistant to the president Kenny O Donnell, President John F. Kennedyand the Attorney

Benjamin Svetkey asked Kevin Costner about John F. Kennedy s first words were when he heard
about the missiles in Cuba apparently he said were F ed again and Costner explained that not
everything could be one hundred percentage historically accurate due to age ratings of the film.
This makes less historical and more entertainment, this shows that the film is being made for
entertainment purposes because they are changing the film to increase the audience size.
Thirteen Days has more historical inaccuracies when it comes to the Kennedys. This is because
the film makes the Kennedys look iconic with the black and white scenes and through portraying
them as the good guys through the whole film and having the military advisors seem like the bad
guys. This film shows Robert F. Kennedy taking a more front seat role then he actually did.
Thirteen Days may portray the Kennedys like this, but throughout the whole of John F. Kennedy
s presidency he always needed extensive medical treatment and this was the same through the
Cuban Missile Crisis as well, The Travell records show that during the 13 days in October of
1962.... Kennedy took his usual doses of anti Spasmodics to control his colitis, antibiotics for a
flare up of his urinary tract problem and a bout of sinusitis. The film does not highlight Kennedy
need for this medication to be able to function and deal with the crisis.

should embrace it. More specifically, he believes autonomous cars are vital for the senior
population. In his editorial entitled Self driving cars could keep seniors in the driver s seat, Berk
discusses the advantages of this new and emerging technology. Autonomous cars have been
introduced only within the last decade but their development has continuously advanced. The most
current models are near perfection and will soon be on the roads. Berk is a strong supporter of the
driver less car, claiming that the new technology will greatly benefit older Americans. Through the
use of several rhetorical devices Berk is able to successfully persuade the... Show more content on

His audience believes in independence and self reliance. He thus, suggests, that giving seniors
the opportunity to drive, even if incapacitated, would strengthen their pride and heighten their
sense of individualism. He describes a friend of his grandmother as having to give up her car
and having to move into an assisted living facility. This is meant to tug at the hearts of
Californians. Not only does such a place sound cold and heartless, it insinuates that residents
cannot provide from themselves. Having to depend on others is often seen as weak;
Californians want to be self reliant they want to strive and succeed on their own. Berk is hence
able to instill both sorrow and fear into his readers. If not sympathizing for the elderly who must
now depend on others, the reader surely fears of being in that same position in the future. Hence,
he convinces the reader that the elderly need access to these cars now, but also that the reader
will need them in the future. Berk also uses a great amount of factual evidence to persuade the
reader that driver less cars would greatly benefit the elderly. He states, According to the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety, the collision rate for older drivers is among the highest of any age
group. Seniors, thus, pose a threat not only to themselves, but to others as well. Therefore, it would
benefit the elderly, as well as the rest of the population, to give seniors access to

The 18 Point Agreement
It is apparent by the citizens of Malaysia that Sabah and Sarawak are handled differently from the
other states in West Malaysia. This is due to the Malaysia Agreement which is an agreement
between Peninsular Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and the British Colonial government to
form the Federation of Malaysia. During the negotiation period before 16 September 1963,
Sarawak proposed its terms for its incorporation into Malaysia to safeguard the special rights and
autonomy of Sarawak and its citizens. The foundation of the 18 Point Agreement was laid by the
Nine Cardinal Principles formed by the English Rajah in 1941.
Basically, the agreement is to uphold the area s rights on their religion, language, education,

Subject:Basic Software Development Life Cycle.
Introduction:
A software development process is a structure imposed on the development of a software product.
Synonyms include software life cycle and software process. There are several models for such
processes, each describing approaches to a variety of tasks or activities that take place during the
process.
Software Development Life Cycle
The Software Development Life Cycle is a step by step process involved in the development of a

The decisions taken in the analysis phase are out and out due to the requirements analysis.
Design
Once the analysis is over, the design phase begins. The aim is to create the architecture of the total
system. This is one of the important stages of the process and serves to be a benchmark stage since
the errors performed until this stage and during this stage can be cleared here.
Most of the developers have the habit of developing a prototype of the entire software and
represent the software as a miniature model. The flaws, both technical and design, can be found
and removed and the entire process can be redesigned.
Development and Implementation
The development and implementation phase is the most important phase since it is the phase where
the main part of the project is done. The basic works include the design of the basic technical
architecture and the maintenance of the database records and programs related to the development
process.
One of the main scenarios is the implementation of the prototype model into a full fledged working
environment, which is the final product or software.
Testing
The testing phase is one of the final stages of the development process and this is the phase where
the final adjustments are made before presenting the completely developed software to the end user.
In general, the testers encounter the problem of removing the logical errors and bugs. The test
conditions which are decided in the analysis phase are applied to the

Ultrasound Therapeutic Effect
Piezoelectric effect was discovered by Currie brothers in 1880. Further, in 1927, Loomis, wood
studied the ultrasound therapeutic ability. In 1940, Ludwig and Struthers published first research
paper on ultrasound. It was the first pulse echo mode ultrasound for the detection of gallstones in
animal tissues. Howry and Bliss, in 1950 were succeeded in analyzing and depicting the anatomic
details of an organ in water bath using B mode technology. Ultrasound (US) is most widely used
diagnostic modality which is cheap as compared to other imaging modalities. Some of its
advantages include non ionizing radiations, real time data availability, large scalable imaging
depth, portability and cost effectiveness. A highly advanced ultrasound came to a stagnant phase
when its hardware was improved along with its software and algorithms. So, the only place to
expand the scope was imaging at cellular and molecular scale. Additionally, providing diagnostic
information beyond that of conventional sonography, and usage of contrast agents. To address the
cellular and molecular scale, the idea was to spatially localize the contrast between diseased and the
health tissue. It is realized that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It requires an internal or external energy source to excite the tissue. Further, it measure the motion
of the tissue induced by the energy. Now, a qualitative or quantitative analysis of tissue elastic
properties is measured form the displacement of tissue. An US can be used to measure
elastography, because it has fast imaging capabilities and also a high spatial resolution. Thyroid
cancer can be visualized using shear elastography. A benign thyroid nodule shows less stiffness,
while a malignant nodule shows maximum stiffness. Consequently, a stiffness parameter could help
us conclude a type of cancer, without autopsy. To sum up, if US along with other technique could
help diagnose cancer at early stages, it would be

Nursing Theory Integrated Into Practice
Today we have arrived at the era where theory is integrated into practice (Im Chang, 2012).
Nurses provide care in a variety of specialty areas, and each of us has discovered links to theory
in our daily work. Theories provides tools for moving beyond intuition to design and evaluate
health behavior and promotion interventions based on understanding of behavior. I learned that
theories and models makes it possible to organize the relationship among the concepts to describe,
explain, predict, and control practice. It help us to decide what we know and what we need to
know, regardless the definition of theory, the focus of nursing, is the person. There are some many
great nursing theories to support an advance practitioner nurse. Nursing theories

Chemistry of Fireworks
The Chemistry of Fireworks A firework is an incendiary device or material that can be used for
signaling or entertainment. There are chemicals located in the nose of the rocket that explode,
producing the colors seen. Fireworks were originally created for the purpose of entertainment and
today they are still widely used in celebration to mark special occasions. The thrill and excitement
generated by fireworks, brightening the night sky and immersing it with vivid displays of color
and technicality, is what makes them a crowd pleaser. But behind all the excitement of fireworks,
chemistry plays an important role in creating the vivid colors we witness lighting up the sky. The
actual chemical reactions that take place in the explosions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The way that metal ions react when exposed to heat is the principle behind color production.
Each metal ion produces a specific color (see table). The color is produced when the electrons in
the metal ions are excited , causing them to jump to a different energy shell. It is when the
electrons return to ground state that they emit their own light. Color| Name| Formula| Blue|

This law is written as:
A=abc(3)
Where a is the molar absorptivity, b is the path length and c is the concentration of the analyte.
Spectrophotmetry is not only confined within the boundaries of chemistry. Its principles have
several applications in different branches of science. In biochemistry, it can be used to determine
enzyme catalyzed reactions, whereas in clinical application, it is used to examine blood and tissues.
This quantitative method of analysis can also be used in engineering, physics,etc.[2]
METHODOLOGY
The experiment was initially done by preparing standard solutions of different volumes of Cu(II)
stock solution of known concentration including a blank solution composed of ammonia and water.
Each volume of the solution was placed in volumetric flasks, and in each flask, same amount of
concentrated NH3 was added. The same procedures were also done in the preparation of the diluted
unknown Cu(II) solution. Addition of ammonia caused the formation of deeper blue copper
ammonia complex which allowed the spectrophotometer to detect the solution easily due to
increase in its absorbance. The formation of the complex is shown by the following chemical
reaction:
Cu2+ + 4NH3 [Cu(NH3)4]2+ (4)
A deficiency in ammonia in the solution would cause the copper ammonia complex to turn into its
hydrated form which would eventually alter the accuracy of the data obtained because of its

very no positive peer relationships in his circle. Carl is in the adolescence stage of life. A period of
life filled with transitional themes that include biological, psychological, and spiritual. These
themes do not occur independently or without affecting one another (Hutchison s, 2015). Carl s is
also challenged by his self body image, substance abuse, and lack of a father parental figure at home
which are contributing factors in his underachievement.
Carl s job at Antonio s has given him the opportunity to work two days week and on the
weekends. Adolescent employment is a positive transition into maturity when it does not conflict
with other important responsibilities. Carl s grades are poor, which puts him at a higher risk of
failing or dropping out of school entirely. In early adolescence, the body undergoes significant
biological changes from their brains to their hair follicles, the difficulties that adolescents face

Multiple Outcomes Of Multiple Pregnancy
Multiple Pregnancy Multiple pregnancy is a pregnancy with more than one baby in mom s uterus,
such as twins, triplets or quadruplets. According to the American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists, the highest rate of multiple pregnancy was in the years between 1980 and 2008, due
to use of fertility treatments and childbearing among women older than 35 years (Multiple
Pregnancy, 2015). The causes of multiple pregnancies are race, gene, age (pregnancy after age of
thirty), use of fertility stimulating drugs and in vitro fertilization (Multiple Pregnancy and Birth:
Twins, Triplets, and High order Multiples ). Caring more than one baby is considered high risk
pregnancy, because of the many complications that may occur during the periods of pregnancy,
labor and postpartum for the women s and baby s health. This kind of pregnancy requires multiple
doctors visits and exams, bed rest, and in most cases end with premature delivered babies through
Cesarean section.
Complications on Mom s Health There are many possible problems that may occur in pregnancy
with more than one baby. The risk of developing of some kind of complications is two times greater
than in pregnancy with one baby. The most dangerous for the mom are bleeding during third
trimester, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, Iron deficiency Anemia, and postpartum hemorrhage
(Being pregnant with twins, triplets and other multiples , 2015). Preeclampsia is developing of high
blood pressure, which can impair the

High-Stakes Testing, the Standardized Classroom, and the...
The world s greatest problems do not result from people being unable to read and write. They
result from people in the world from different cultures, races, religions, and nations being unable to
get along and to work together to solve the world s problems. These statements by James A. Banks
have made a profound impact on my view towards multicultural educationand the nation s current
trend of standardization and high stakes testing. Scholarly research shows that the emphasis placed
on testing and standards, mandated by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, is causing teachers
to focus entirely on basic skills in reading, writing, and math (Banks Banks, 2010). This focus on
basic skills is taking much needed time and attention away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus, when AYP is based on academic achievement levels, the subgroup rules create negative
unintended consequences for the students they were designed to help, by disproportionately
subjecting racially diverse schools to sanctions under NCLB. This consequence also threatens to
increase the growing dropout and push out rates for students in these sub groups (Darling
Hammond, 2007).
This paradox is not just affecting low income and minority students, but also students in non
minority groups as well. When there is no time for focus on skills that students need to participate
in social change, these students will not learn to question practices within society or to work with
other students from all different groups and backgrounds in order to effect change. Classes in
schools which may contribute to multicultural education, such as social studies and foreign
language, are being cut completely in order to spend more time on reading and math (Au, 2009).
According to Au (2009), since multi cultural anti racist perspectives and content are not deemed
legitimate by the high stakes tests and classroom standards, the end result is that multicultural, anti
racist content and perspectives and not being included in the instruction time or curriculum. This
reinforces the notion for white students that they are the dominant group in society, and works
against the goals of multicultural education.

Service Management
Service Management Introduction It is considered that the most critical thing for a company is to
effectively and efficiently deliver the service to the customers. It does really matter which
industry the organization is operating in, the features of services have be taken very seriously
and in addition to that, customers have to be satisfied in order for the organization to grow. It has
been argued by numerous scholars that the primary need of the customers in the modern business
world is to have a good experience, along with added value to be served to them. It is important to
note that regardless of the capabilities of a product, the organization is not likely to be successful in

The concept of the service is considered to be the mutual understanding between the received
nature of the nature and the provided nature of the service by the organization. In addition to
that, it should also be able to summarize the information regarding the idea of the organization,
the experience of the service, the outcome of the service and the operation of the service as well
as the value of the service which is given below. When a customer goes out and generally
considers the things around while doing routine work, it is likely to be attracted by the
experience that it receives with the service provided by the organization. This is a motivating
factor for the customer and is likely to attract the customer if applied well. In addition to that, it
is an important thing to note that under the examples of a customer going for a walk in the park,
its experience of the service would include services which are fun and lively for all the age
groups, there is a variety of attractions, the queues for the major rides, entertaining and
exhilarating, easiness and the time taken to buy the required ticket. Apart from that, the operation
of the service would include a massive car parking area, good signage to the park, clear map
sites, various kinds of queuing procedures, a variety of outlets containing food as well as the more
the attractions and rides, the better the operations of the services. The experiences as well as the

The Ethics Of A Systematic Disaster Plan
When a mass casualty has stricken the nation such as the incidents of 9/11, the plane crash of a
TWA 800, or the Oklahoma City bombing; each incident involved some level of planning after the
incident took place. The planning process for managing an emergency has to take into
considerations certain factors such as the level of the devastation, what resources are needed, and
how to eliminate the likelihood of the same incident from occurring again. The basis of every
decision emergency managers will need to make revolve around ethical decisions when conducting
the planning process. Ethicsis defined as the moral principles that govern a person s or group s
behavior (Oxford Dictionary, n.d.). As it relates to first responders and... Show more content on

Will funding go to areas where there is a least likely chance of restoration or does funding go to
those areas where there is a better chance of rescue? There is an ethical duty owed to citizens
during a mass casualty especially during the decision making process because every life should
matter regardless of the cost on the local, state, or federal level. When addressing concerns for
impoverished areas, special consideration should be a concern for many emergency managers
before an incident would to hit the community (Danz, 2014).
In the realm of emergency management, there are five ethical decision making theories that are
used as a guide when developing an emergency management and preparedness plan. There theories
are the utilitarian approach, rights approach, fairness or justice approach, common good approach,
and the virtue approach. Each theory is designed with a specific end goal in mind while taking into
account the various concerns regarding funding, resources, and the rescue/recovery phases. The
utilitarian approach emphasizes on the ethical actions that provide the most good with the least
amount of harm for those affected during an emergency such as employees, customers, and the
community (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks, Meyer, S.J., 2014).
The rights approach suggests that ethical actions are done so, which best protects and respects the
moral rights of those affected. This theory focuses on the belief that humans have dignity based

Explain Why Adult Interactions with Children Are Important...
M1. Explain why adult interactions with children are important part of supporting their learning
Adult interaction is the key to measure a child s development. It helps understand the importance of
analysing children s progress and achievement. All children are different and unique. Interaction
helps children build stable, healthy and satisfying relationship and close bonding with their family,
friends, classmates and care takers (social development). They learn to cooperate and work as part
of team. Interaction creates awareness of a child s development, strengths, needs, interest and most
importantly in identifying areas of improvement, on the basis of which we can decide whether the

Interact with the child help him to take responsibility for task such as dressing up, feeding and
tidying up which encourage to develop their self reliance.
At children s invitation we can participate in their games, at their level and play along, suggesting
new ideas and prompting for further ideas while continuing the same activity. We need to manage
their routine such as the duration of play. We can assess their behaviours (emotional environment)
also. We are a role model and hence our behaviour pattern can guide them to an acceptable level.
We need to interact positively with children as they observe and learn to talk and act with warmth
and respect towards others or develop patience. We need to sympathise, understand their point of
view and avoid being judgemental of their actions and thoughts. It gives a feeling of importance and
helps the child open up and share more information.
We can provide additional support to children with slow motor skills and help them overcome
frustration. For example, if they find writing difficult, a keyboard can be used to simplify the
task. Or, motivate them to read by providing books that they like such as those of current super
heroes. We help children to record what they have discovered or achieved in an activity (creating
wall chart and displaying their work in that area where everyone can access it).
Interaction helps understand why a child may find an activity difficult and enable us to help

  • 2. Politeness And Its Impact On The Early Nineteenth Century As a result of the term politeness being mainly used as a verbal fixture in the eighteenth century, it was frequently used in a vacuous manner resulting in its adding relatively little to both the general notions of correctness and refinement (Stein van Ostade, 1994). However, during the early part of the eighteenth century, there is significant evidence of the term politeness having a definite and specific set of resonances. The importance of investigating the notion of politeness in the early eighteenth century is that although the main idiom of politeness is seen to have generally been cultivated in a number of important ways by numerous writers during the restoration decades, it has been mainly crystallised during the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, politeness was generally used to help in evoking a vision of culture and social life, which is considered to be appropriate to modern times. This vision of politeness, linking cultural refinement and moral improvement, was epitomised in gentlemanly and urbane conversations (Stein van Ostade, 1994). Politeness was found to be mainly a refined condition of social interactions (Atkinson, 1999), while social politeness was found to be paradigmatically conversational. Conversational politeness attempts to pursue verbal agreeableness that is essentially captured in a characteristic vocabulary in the form of phrases and words, such as soft, natural, easy and never tiresome (Stein van Ostade, 1994).Thus, although the actual origins of the subject of politeness were mainly on the basis of social interactions, politeness eventually came to take an essentially exemplary role for general conversations in written discourse. Polite texts were deemed to be specifically conversational in nature. The actual pace of commenting on the English language was remarkably quickened in the late seventeenth through to the eighteenth century. Though a large number of language related texts were published during this period as a result of advancements in printing (Kernan, 1989), there were new concerns with the notion of ... William Shakespeare had influenced writing with his beautiful writing style.Shakespeare s writing was remarkable in his era and is still amazing now.Shakespeare had risen above average writing standards.Furthermore, Shakespeare revolutionised writing, making his plays unforgettable. William Shakespeare was born on April 23,1564 in Stratford upon Avon,England. He was raised in Stratford upon Avon along with eight siblings (who tragically died during infancy) and his mother (Mary Aden) and father (John Shakespeare).William was born English and was born into the era of the Renaissance and Early Modern. His father,John Shakespeare, owned a shop which made gloves. His mother,Mary Aden, was a farmer s daughter.John was soon enough an alderman (council) then was elected bailiff (mayor) which was the highest honor a Stratford resident could get! By the age of seven, William was attending Stratford grammar school with other people of their social class (middle class). The school mostly studied Latin.Knowing Latin could help you get a better job, so this was important. As Shakespeare grew older, he met Anne Hathaway, and got married in November 27,1582.After six months, Anne gave birth to their first daughter, Susanna.A few years later, Anne gave birth to twins,Hamnet (a boy) and Judith (a girl).Later on, Shakespeare gets a job working in a theater in London. He started to playwright ... • 4. Limitations Of Body Weight Exercise Bodyweight training has been a popular form of exercise for decades, especially when it comes to group exercise classes and workout videos. It can certainly be an effective form of exercise, but bodyweight training programs are often designed without really considering the many different types of people who perform the workouts. Bodyweight exercises are typically assumed to be appropriate for everyone, but that is not exactly true. Since bodyweight exercises do not use external resistance (weights, bands, etc.), people usually do not think about them having a numerical difficulty or weight value. As a result, bodyweight exercises are thought of as essentially being one size fits all with a person s weight being the correct amount for the exercise. There is a major flaw with this way of thinking, because bodyweight exercises do have weight just like any other form of resistance training. The difference is that instead of holding or supporting an external weight, the resistance of each exercise is determined by a percentage of your bodyweight. Therefore, each exercise does have a numerical resistance/weight value, even though you will not know the exact amount when performing the exercise. The important thing to realize is every bodyweight exercise puts a specific amount of stress on your muscles and as with every other type of exercise, the difficulty of bodyweight exercises should appropriately match your ability level and your goals. If the difficulty of the exercise is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Short Note On The Salinity Crisis And Its Effects On The... The Messinian Salinity Crisis, most commonly referred to as MSC, is considered to be one of the most dramatic events to occur in the geology of the world in about twenty million years. The Messinian Salinity Crisis is essentially when the Mediterranean Sea dried up completely. The sea began to dry up approximately 6 million years ago and ended around 5.3 million years ago. Prior to the drying of the sea, the sea level in the oceans had dropped about 70 meters because of global cooling which led to the glaciers and icebergs. Because of this, the connection between the Atlantic Oceanand Mediterranean Seahad become nonexistent and the Mediterranean could not depend on the Atlantic for the source of water. With the Mediterranean Sea being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two types of salts that were deposited on the floor were Halite and Gypsum. Some of the salt deposits were as deep as 800 meters which is equivalent to 2,500 feet. The scientists were baffled by this discovery, thus leading to numerous investigations about where these salt deposits came from. Some of the scientists believe that environmental changes like the Mediterranean Salinity Crisis, could quite possibly have a larger affect than what is assumed. Scientist believe that it could having an impact on the global level. The Mediterranean Salinity Crisis is said to have occurred in three stages. The first stage was when the, evaporites precipitated in shallow sub basins. Basically, this is when natural salt build us in the sub basin after the evaporation of a body of water. During the second stage, evaporite precipitation is shifted to the deepest depocentres. Essentially all of the salts moved to the bottom of the basin. This is what the oil drillers were drilling into when they discovered the large salt deposits at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The third stage is considered to be the large scale environmental fluctuations in the Mediterranean transformed into brackish water lake. The idea behind this stage is that it basically the erosion that occurred after all of the water was gone. This erosion then led to the breaking of the barrier between the basin and the Atlantic Ocean. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. J.P. Morgan and Ragtime Essay John Pierpont Morgan: The turn of the century in American, when E.L. Doctorow s novel Ragtime is set, was a time marked by rapid technological developments and industrialization. These years also brought a heavy flood of immigrants as well as an increasingly urban American landscape. Technological advancements enabled increased efficiency and mass production. However, Doctorow clearly brings into question the consequences of this new technology for the average American worker. J.P. He was the commanding figure in international finance. In 1869, a war over railroads began, including Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, both famous financiers. Gould already had dominant control over the Erie railroad and began to buy up stock in the Albany amp; Susquehanna Railroad. Morgan developed into the nation s railroad reorganizer. In 1886, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad was in great difficulty with a deficit of six million dollars a year. Morgan was brought in to slash the value of the watered stock, reduce interest rates on the bonds, and assess the shareholders for more money. 1888, J.P. The Exam Hall, once Theatre, on the campus of Trinity College Dublin can be viewed as a neo classical building, built during the Georgian era. Neo classical architecture is the revival of Greek and Roman classicism that took place in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This revival of architecture as James Adams, a famous English architect said, was ready to seize with some degree of success, the beautiful spirit of antiquity, which is quintessentially seen in the Exam Hall. Chamber s classical style shined in much of his work, specifically the exam hall. Trinity Colleges Exam Hall can be described as classical because it is built following the guidelines of Corinthian Order. During the period of classical architecture the Greeks founded the original three orders Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian different classical styles of building that followed certain rules and mathematical ratios. The Romans adopted these orders and made them their own. Roman Corinthian Order is the style of the Exam Hall. The most distinctive element is the columns, which support an entablature. The Exam Halls columns contain smooth unfluted shafts made from Portland Stone, a highly sought after stone at the time. The column capital is ornate as all classical capitals are. The capital is decorated with acanthus leaves and small volutes. There is also a fleuron in the center of the abacus, which lie atop the column capital. The capitals are also made of Portland stone. They can change into various patterns or colors depending on the severity of the danger they are faced with. In fact, a chameleon can mask itself into a rock so that their predator cannot distinguish between themselves and the rock. Chameleons can mimic various objects, making them appear to be something they are not. Sometimes, things appear to be one thing, when in reality, they are something utterly dissimilar. Specifically, Murlock enjoys living a simple life and is delighted to be supplied by the sale or barter of skins of wild animals in the river town (Bierce 16). He is perfectly content in hunting animals and trading the skin for money, and he doesn t have any ambitions in changing his lifestyle. Because he is a hunter, he has various kinds of animal skins hanging throughout the walls of his house. The animal skins have a distinct odor to them, which therefore attract and captivate other wild animals. Bierce encompasses this to demonstrate that the panther didn t magically appear in Murlock s home, but was rather attracted to the scent of the dead animals which provides a realistic explanation as to how the panther waltzed into his home aimlessly. Moreover, when Murlock s wife becomes ill and he has the task of nursing her back to health, but at the end of the third day, she fell into unconsciousness arid so passed away, apparently Bierce 17). With no doctors near Murlock s home to help, he has no choice but to try to tend his wife back to health by himself. After many days of care, she dies, based purely on Murlock s medical judgement. China s rapid GDP growth is caused mainly by state investment, high exportation, and successes with e commerce (citation 2). Taizong continued his late brother s work of attempting to unify China by eliminating their enemies (citation 5). The attempts were unsuccessful and, instead, the Bei Song Dynasty solely maintained peace. The emperors following Taizong allowed the bureaucracy to slowly disintegrate, allowing enemy forces to effortlessly take over. In 1127, the Juchen Tribes overthrew the emperor and took over the Bei region, turning it into the Jin Empire. • 10. Narrative Essay About Moving To Canada As I walked to the parking lot where my mom had arrived to pick me up from school, my sister ran out of the car, ran towards me and yelled excitedly, We re going to Canada! Having grown up in Kuwait for my whole life of 15 years, I could hardly believe my sister s words. Going to Canada! I had only been out of the country twice, each time just to vacation and visit family in the Philippines where both my parents are from. I had always imagined what life would be like outside of Kuwait, and now it was finally going to be real. My 15 year old self was devastated We were leaving the only home I had known for 15 years. It did not take long for my sisters excitement to die when we realized that we would be leaving our friends and everything we ve ever known and not returning for a long time. Life in Kuwait for 15 years was comfortable and we were more than financially stable. Moving to Canada without a job offer in place meant that we would have to start from the beginning all over again. Goodbyes were hard but my parents encouraged us to see the joys of moving to a place where we could start over and become accepted citizens of a country. Arriving in Canada, I experienced the biggest culture shock of my life. Vancouver, BC was cold, wet, and loud. I had thought adjusting would be relatively easy; I spoke English with a slight accent but I was very shy that it confused some of the other kids to think I couldn t speak English. • 11. Summary Of West Of Myself By Debora Greger Among the various structural and thematic elements, Debora Greger s West of Myself provides a sense of nostalgia and reminiscence of the past. The poem illustrates how life and memory are not so easily remembered or taken. The speaker of the poem is dramatizing her inner conflict and chastising herself for the direction her life has taken and where she believes it will befall. The compelling force for the creation of the work might have been to express memories of living a life and reflection, looking at life from hindsight. The poem reveals where she once thought the right way in life was to go and where she now thinks the right way would have been. Equally essential as the narrative in poetic writing is the overall effect of language structure and description. Although there is no distinct rhythm or rhyme to this poem, it is through language and structure that the text is made inviting. In the blank verse, Why are you still seventeen.../ dragging a shadow you ve found? (1), this metaphor for a borrowed lifestyle facilitates a feeling of lost identity and nostalgia for the past. By incorporating such language, and by choosing a self proclaimed rhetorical question, the speaker adds to the effect of personal obscurity. An immense component of the entire poem are the combined stanzas: that s not the road you want,/ though you have it to yourself. This emulates the feeling of regret. In continuation of the metaphorical self evaluation of the poem, it supports the idea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Points of Disagreement Points of Disagreement The Golden Rule is an ethical idea shared in various religious texts and different ancient philosophers statements around the world, and it was paraphrased as What you do not wish done to yourself, do not do to others . Kwame Anthony Appiah argues in the fifth Chapter (Moral Disagreement) of his book Cosmopolitanism that the Golden Rule is not as helpful as it might at first seem , and he gives several examples to support his argument. However, I don t think these examples are solid enough to overthrow the Golden Rule. Because we can only discuss the pros and cons of the Golden Rule after we share this idea. Besides, I have a different view toward the Golden Rule than Appiah. I prefer to believe it is a passive, constricted admonition that keep society in basic order. The spirit transited by the Golden Rule is especially needed in the society which is not based on a full fledged legal system, and the Golden Rule is also served as a necessary ethic principle to guarantee the cross cultural conversation. Appiah argues that the Golden Rule is hard to be applied in practice because it is hard to understand and share others values, and the Golden Rule is powerless facing the differences in values. The example he uses is that a doctor wanted to save his patient s life through blood transfusion. The problem is that his patient was a racist and the blood came from an African American. • 28. Compare And Contrast The Valley Of Ashes In The Great Gatsby Imagine a world where one side of the equator was filled with wealth, happiness, and content. Now imagine the other side of the equator filled with poverty, sadness, and death. These two completely opposing halves enhance each other s descriptions and make one think of each side more deeply about the concept. This same scenario is also present in one of America s favorite novels based upon the 1920s and the American dream. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald juxtaposes two contrasting places, the Valley of Ashes and New York City , using imagery to magnify the difference between reality and a fantasy, which is central to the meaning of the work. The Valley of Ashes is halfway between West Egg of Long Island and New York City. When one comes upon the Valley of Ashes, it is not what they see, but what they do not see: sunshine, colors, or a settling feeling. The Valley of Ashes is nothing but a dull location, filled with unsatisfied farmers, unsuccessful gardens, billowing smoke, and mounds of ashes that are prominent below the gray skies. Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby, describes the Valley of Ashes as ...a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air (Fitzgerald 23). Fitzgerald describes this location as unpleasant for those who enter and it is seen as a vulnerable place due to the billboard of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg looking upon the location at all times. This descriptive quote foreshadows that something bad will occur in this area during the novel. As for New York City, in the novel it is defined as the perfect place to live life to the fullest and not have a care of the world. As a reader, it is expected to envision this city full of lights as a bright, restless, and colorful place. The boss abandoned his traditional old world practices and respect for traditional Jews in order to move upward in America into a high position of power. Thus, the boss represents the need for Jewish immigrants to assimilate in order to achieve greater wealth opportunities in America. Assimilation was a complex and a resistant concept to gravel for some Jewish immigrants. This was the case for Jake s wife Gitl. When Jake goes to Ellis Island to pick up his wife, Gitl and son Yossele, he seems to be disgusted to see his old world wife and son. He has adapted to American customs and views his wife s physical appearance as being backward. Jake states to his wife, In America, you don t wear wigs...kerchiefs. This challenges Gitl s traditional values. She wanted to maintain her cultural identity of the old world. She states, I can t go around in my own hair like a gentile. The War On The Front Lines The refusal to obey orders, or a violent attempt to take control from people of authority. 1 The Great War was a rugged time for many throughout its duration from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918. The speculations and thoughts of the general public and the soldiers in battle behind the ongoing war changed drastically over the four years. The moral and willpower of the soldiers declined heavily, and this had a large impact on how the war was fought. Many soldiers captured their accounts of these changes in journals as diaries and there is one French soldiers diary that accurately depicts mutiny on the front lines. There is a clear correlation between the changes in the amount of recruits and supplies available, the manner in which the war was fought, and the general feelings behind the war as time went on, which caused some soldiers to choose mutiny. At the beginning of the war, the duties behind what the soldiers had to do were largely appreciated and they were held above others as heroes. People of warring countries were rushing to battleand their loved ones were supporting them all of the way. Battalions were even formed from work groups, as they already withheld an established chain of command, the members had a close knit bond, and there was a charismatic feeling about representing the country they worked in. Most of the developers have the habit of developing a prototype of the entire software and represent the software as a miniature model. One of the main scenarios is the implementation of the prototype model into a full fledged working environment, which is the final product or software. Testing The testing phase is one of the final stages of the development process and this is the phase where the final adjustments are made before presenting the completely developed software to the end user. In general, the testers encounter the problem of removing the logical errors and bugs. The test conditions which are decided in the analysis phase are applied to the

Each volume of the solution was placed in volumetric flasks, and in each flask, same amount of concentrated NH3 was added. The same procedures were also done in the preparation of the diluted unknown Cu(II) solution. This paradox is not just affecting low income and minority students, but also students in non minority groups as well. The planning process for managing an emergency has to take into considerations certain factors such as the level of the devastation, what resources are needed, and how to eliminate the likelihood of the same incident from occurring again. Will funding go to areas where there is a least likely chance of restoration or does funding go to those areas where there is a better chance of rescue? There is an ethical duty owed to citizens during a mass casualty especially during the decision making process because every life should matter regardless of the cost on the local, state, or federal level. When addressing concerns for impoverished areas, special consideration should be a concern for many emergency managers before an incident would to hit the community (Danz, 2014). In the realm of emergency management, there are five ethical decision making theories that are used as a guide when developing an emergency management and preparedness plan. There theories are the utilitarian approach, rights approach, fairness or justice approach, common good approach, and the virtue approach. Each theory is designed with a specific end goal in mind while taking into account the various concerns regarding funding, resources, and the rescue/recovery phases. The utilitarian approach emphasizes on the ethical actions that provide the most good with the least amount of harm for those affected during an emergency such as employees, customers, and the community (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks, Meyer, S.J., 2014). At children s invitation we can participate in their games, at their level and play along, suggesting new ideas and prompting for further ideas while continuing the same activity. We need to manage their routine such as the duration of play. We can assess their behaviours (emotional environment) also. We are a role model and hence our behaviour pattern can guide them to an acceptable level. We need to interact positively with children as they observe and learn to talk and act with warmth and respect towards others or develop patience. We need to sympathise, understand their point of view and avoid being judgemental of their actions and thoughts. It gives a feeling of importance and helps the child open up and share more information. We can provide additional support to children with slow motor skills and help them overcome frustration. For example, if they find writing difficult, a keyboard can be used to simplify the task. Or, motivate them to read by providing books that they like such as those of current super heroes. We help children to record what they have discovered or achieved in an activity (creating wall chart and displaying their work in that area where everyone can access it). Interaction helps understand why a child may find an activity difficult and enable us to help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
