2. Angels Rescue Lot
That evening two angels came to the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting near the city gates and saw them.
He got up and went to them. He bowed to show respect.
The angels said to Lot, “We are going to destroy this city. The LORD heard how evil this city is, so he sent
us to destroy it.” When Lot did not move fast enough, the two men grabbed his hand. They also took the
hands of his wife and his two daughters. The two men led Lot and his family safely out of the city.

Le soir, deux anges arrivèrent à
Sodome. Loth était assis à la porte de la
ville. En les voyant, il se leva pour aller à
leur rencontre et se prosterna face
contre terre.
Les deux hommes dirent à Loth: Nous
allons détruire cette ville, parce que de
graves accusations contre ses habitants
sont montées jusque devant l’Eternel.
C’est pourquoi l’Eternel nous a envoyés
pour détruire la ville.
Comme il hésitait encore, les deux
hommes les prirent par la main, lui, sa
femme et ses deux filles, car Dieu voulait
les épargner, et ils les entraînèrent hors
de la ville.

3. Jacob’s Dream
Jacob had a dream. He dreamed there was a ladder that was on the ground and reached up into
heaven. He saw the angels of God going up and down the ladder. And then Jacob saw the LORD standing
by the ladder. He said, “I am with you, and I will protect you everywhere you go.

«Je suis moi-même avec
toi, je te garderai partout
où tu iras.»

4. Balaam and the Angel
Balak, who was king of Moab at that time, sent messengers to summon Balaam. God said to Balaam,
“Do not go with them,” but Balaam went with the Moabite officials. God was very angry when he went,
and the angel of the Lord stood in the road to oppose him. The angel stood in a narrow place where
there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left.
L'âne de Balaam
Le roi Balac envoya une délégation à
Balaam. Il lui adressait ce message : « Il y
a ici un peuple venu d'Égypte, qui couvre
toute la surface du pays. Il s'est installé
non loin de chez moi. Viens donc à mon
aide, je t'en prie, et maudis-le, car il est
plus puissant que mon propre peuple. Si
tu acceptes, je pourrai peut-être le
vaincre et le chasser de la région. »
« Tu n'iras pas avec eux !» lui dit Dieu.
Mais au matin, Balaam sella son ânesse
et partit avec les chefs moabites.
Dieu se mit en colère parce qu'il avait
entrepris ce déplacement, et l'ange de
l'Eternel se posta en travers du chemin
pour lui barrer le passage. L'ange alla se
poster plus loin dans un chemin encaissé,
qui traversait des vignes entre deux murs.

5. When the donkey saw the angel of the
Lord, it lay down under Balaam, and he was
angry and beat it with his staff. Then the Lord
opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to
Balaam, “What have I done to you to make
you beat me these three times?”
Then the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and
he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the
road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low
and fell facedown.
Lorsque l'ânesse le vit, elle se coucha sous
son maître. Balaam se mit en colère et la roua
de coups de bâton. Alors le Seigneur donna à
l'ânesse la possibilité de parler, et elle dit à
Balaam : « Que t'ai-je fait, pour que tu me
battes à trois reprises ? »
A cet instant, le Seigneur ouvrit les yeux de
Balaam, et celui-ci aperçut l'ange debout au
milieu de la route, tenant à la main son épée
dégainée. Aussitôt il se jeta le visage contre
terre.

6. Elisha’s Secret Army
When the king of Aram was at war with Israel, he would confer with his officers and say, “We will
mobilize our forces at such and such a place.” But immediately Elisha, the man of God, would warn the
king of Israel.
The king of Aram became very upset over this. He called his officers together and demanded, “Go and
find out where Elisha is, so I can send troops to seize him.” The report came back: “Elisha is at Dothan.”
So one night the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city.

Le roi de Syrie était en guerre avec
Israël. Dans un conseil qu'il tint avec ses
serviteurs, il dit: «Mon camp sera à tel
endroit.» Mais Elisée, l'homme de Dieu,
fit dire au roi d'Israël: «Attention, ne
passe pas à cet endroit, car c’est là que
les Syriens descendent.»
Le roi de Syrie appela ses serviteurs et
leur dit: «Allez repérer où Elisée est et je
le ferai capturer.» On vint lui dire: «Il est
à Dothan.» Le roi de Syrie y envoya des
chevaux, des chars et une forte troupe,
qui arrivèrent de nuit et qui encerclèrent
la ville.

7. Elisha’s servant got up early that morning. When he went outside, he saw an army with horses and
chariots all around the city. The servant said to Elisha, “Oh, my master, what can we do?”
Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid. The army that fights for us is larger than the army that fights for Aram.”
Then Elisha prayed and said, “LORD, I ask you, open my servant’s eyes so that he can see.” The LORD
opened the eyes of the young man, and the servant saw the mountain was full of horses and chariots of
fire. They were all around Elisha.
Le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu
se leva de bon matin pour sortir de
la ville, et il vit qu'une troupe la
cernait, avec des chevaux et des
chars. Il dit alors à l'homme de
Dieu: «Ah, mon seigneur, comment
ferons-nous?»
Il répondit: «N’aie pas peur, car
ceux qui sont avec nous sont plus
nombreux que ceux qui sont avec
eux.» Puis Elisée pria: «Eternel,
ouvre ses yeux pour qu'il voie.»
L'Eternel ouvrit les yeux du
serviteur, et il vit la montagne
pleine de chevaux et de chars de feu
tout autour d'Elisée.

8. Daniel in the Lion’s Den
Daniel was a better governor than the other governors the king has put in charge of his kingdom. The
king saw this and intended to put Daniel in charge of his whole empire.
The other governors were jealous. They went to the king and said, "Sign a decree forbidding anyone
to pray to any god or human besides you for thirty days. Whoever disobeys the decree should be thrown
into the lion's den." The king then signed the decree into law.
When Daniel heard about the decree, he went home and opened
his windows. He prayed to his God just as he had always done.

Daniel surpassait les autres surintendants par ses capacités
exceptionnelles, si bien que le roi avait l'intention de lui confier une
responsabilité relative à l'empire tout entier.
Les autres surintendants étaient jaloux. Se rendirent chez le roi
et lui dirent : « Promulguer et publier un décret impérial de la
teneur suivante : «Durant une période de trente jours, quiconque
adressera une prière à un dieu ou à un être humain autre que le roi
lui-même devra être jeté dans la fosse aux lions.» Là-dessus, le roi
Darius signa le document du décret.
Lorsque Daniel apprit qu'un tel décret avait été signé, il regagna
sa maison et ouvrit les fenêtres. C'est là que, trois fois par jour, il se
mettait à genoux pour prier et louer son Dieu. Il le fit comme
d'habitude.

9. When Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions, The king said to him, “May your God, whom
you serve so faithfully, rescue you.”
Very early the next morning, the king got up and hurried out to the lions’ den. When he got there,
he called out, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to
rescue you from the lions?”
Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they
would not hurt me.”
The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on
him, for he had trusted in his God.
Alors le roi ordonna d’emmener Daniel et de le jeter dans la fosse aux lions. Le roi lui dit : Puisse ton
Dieu que tu sers avec tant de persévérance
te délivrer lui-même.
Dès les premières lueurs de l'aube, le roi
se leva et se rendit en hâte à la fosse aux
lions. Il appela Daniel : « Daniel, est-ce que
ton Dieu a pu t'arracher aux griffes des
lions ? »
Daniel lui répondit : « Oui, mon Dieu a
envoyé son ange fermer la gueule des lions,
et ils ne m'ont fait aucun mal. »
Rempli de joie, le roi donna l'ordre de
remonter Daniel de la fosse. Dès qu'il en fut
sorti, on constata qu'il ne portait aucune
blessure, parce qu'il avait eu confiance en
son Dieu.

10. Daniel’s Vision
Daniel had been fasting for three weeks when an angelic messenger appeared to him. The angel said,
“Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray, your request has been heard in heaven. I
have come in answer to your prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia
blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the
spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. Now I am here to explain what will happen to your
people in the future.”
Le message de l’ange
Daniel fus plongé dans le deuil durant trois
semaines entières. Puis Dieu envoya l’ange Gabriel
chez Daniel. Le ange dit: Sois sans crainte, Daniel;
car, dès le premier jour ta prière a été entendue; et
je suis venu vers toi, en réponse à tes paroles. Mais
le chef du royaume de Perse s’est opposé à moi
durant vingt et un jours.
Alors Michel, l’un des
principaux chefs, est venu
à mon aide et je suis resté
là auprès des rois de Perse.
Je suis venu pour te faire
comprendre ce qui
arrivera à ton peuple
dans l’avenir.

11. An Angel Visits Mary and Joseph
God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to
be married to a man named Joseph. Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Don’t be afraid, Mary. You will give
birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most
High.
After this, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Joseph,” the angel said, “do not be
afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.” When Joseph
woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded.
Un ange annonce la naissance prochaine de
Jésus
Dieu envoya l'ange Gabriel dans une ville de
Galilée, Nazareth, chez une jeune fille fiancée à un
homme appelé Joseph. Le nom de la jeune fille était
Marie. L'ange entra chez elle et lui dit: «N'aie pas
peur, Marie. Bientôt tu seras enceinte, puis tu mettras
au monde un fils que tu nommeras Jésus. Il sera
grand et on l'appellera le Fils du Dieu très-haut. »
Un ange du Seigneur apparut a Joseph dans un
rêve et lui dit: «Joseph, ne crains pas d'épouser Marie,
car c'est par l'action du Saint-Esprit qu'elle attend un
enfant.» Quand Joseph se réveilla, il agit comme
l'ange du Seigneur le lui avait ordonné et prit Marie
comme épouse.

12. Peter’s Miraculous Escape from Prison
Herod imprisoned Peter, placing him under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. But
while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.
The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of
the Lord stood before Peter. The angel said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists. “Now
put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered.
Pierre est délivré
Le roi Hérode fit arrêter Pierre et chargea quatre groupes de quatre soldats de le garder. Pierre était
donc gardé dans la prison, mais
l’Eglise priait ardemment Dieu en
sa faveur.
Durant la nuit, alors qu'
Hérode était sur le point de le
faire juger en public, un ange du
Seigneur apparut. L'ange toucha
Pierre au côté, le réveilla et lui dit
: « Lève-toi vite ! » Les chaînes
tombèrent alors de ses mains.
Puis l'ange lui dit : « Mets ton
manteau et suis-moi. »

13. So Peter left the cell, following the angel. They passed the first and second guard posts and
came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they
passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him.
Pierre sortit de la
prison en suivant
l'ange. Ils passèrent
le premier poste de
garde, puis le second
et arrivèrent à la
porte de fer qui
donne sur la ville.
Cette porte s'ouvrit
d'elle-même devant
eux et ils sortirent.
Ils s'avancèrent dans
une rue et, tout à
coup, l'ange quitta
Pierre.
