Production Of The Automotive Industry
Selected Review of Literature: Lean Manufacturing in Automotive Industry The automotive
industry continues to grow every day. Companies are always coming out with new technology for
cars to better their product. In order for these companies to keep a competitive advantage they most
implement different types of manufacturing processes. One of these manufacturing processes is
lean manufacturing. Sundar, Balaji and Satheesh have done research on lean manufacturing, and
they define it as the elimination of waste by determining value added activities and non value added
activities. Non value added activities consist of transportation, inventory, motion waiting,
overproduction, over processing, and defects (2014). Elmoselhy has found multiple tools to be used
to implement lean manufacturing. Some of these tools are: 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Single
Minute Exchange Die, Kaizen, and Autonomation. This list does not include all of the possible
ways to implement lean manufacturing, but gives a brief introduction to a couple. The 5S stands
for Sorting, Setting, Shining, Standardizing, and Sustaining (2013). This paper will discuss one of
the five S s, which will be standardizing. Also, this paper will also go into detail about how an
automotive manufacturing company uses Single Minute Exchange Die, and some other aspects of
lean manufacturing such as visual control and environmental management. Because lean
manufacturing can be implemented in many different ways this paper

Essay on Canadian Firearms Program
Case Study: Individual Preparation Report
Name: Maruf Hashem
Date: January 30, 2013
Case Title: Canadian Firearms Program
Introduction
Gun violence is serious social problem and Canada has a long history of firearms control.
However, increasing costs to the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) has made it a lightning rod for
criticism from both pro and anti gun advocates. Reports out of the media and Auditor General
Sheila Fraser paint a picture of inefficiency, incompetence and mismanagement.
This paper looks at the main issues faced by decision makers, analyses them, presents alternatives
and makes recommendations based on the analysis.
Key Issues (10 marks)
Issue 1 (Most Important Issue):
The first and most important issue to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Analysis (10 marks)
In dealing with the first issue, there are two distinct schools of thought. One led by gun advocates
stating the irrelevance of gun control in reducing crimes while the other claiming its importance.
The main argument against is the notion that no would be criminal would ever comply with it
thereby diminishing, if not eliminating its effectiveness. Opponents also point to the steadily
declining gun related deaths as evidence against any control. Proponents on the other hand point out
that this reduction is due to fewer suicides rather than homicides. Opponents also argue that
controlling gun access will only create a thriving black market for firearms.
Proponents of the program state that the registry system is an invaluable tool for law enforcement
officials. It helps to track firearms and assist in solving cases, while respecting the rights of law
abiding citizens to own guns.
Judging by the figures presented (exhibit 2) in the case, the sheer volume of queries appear to
indicate that the registry indeed is an essential tool for police. In fact, law enforcement officers who
are a key stakeholder in this program are in favor of it. The argument of a thriving black market
can be reasonable disregarded, as there is no data to support it.
Now, even if there is a necessity for a registry program, it still has to be efficient.

The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead
AMC s gritty and gruesome apocalyptic hit The Walking Dead places the blood thirsty, agonized
groans of zombies right in our living rooms. The show follows a small group of survivors in the
midst of a zombie apocalypse that has decimated some seventy five percent of the population.
The cable series which first premiered in 2010 made no bones about its weekly offering of flesh
eating, blood splattered gore. The opening sequence of the pilot episode features a virus ridden
little girl being thrust into the pavement when former sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) shoots
a bullet into her skull as he struggles to ward off her flesh hungry zombie attack. The Walking Dead
has since amassed quite the following of fans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the biggest fear, however, concerning viewership of The Walking Dead is the possibility
it has of eschewing one s moral compass. Viewers continually watch protagonist Grimes and his
cohorts violently kill and maim the walking dead without pause and vice versa. It leads one to
wonder, if this prolonged exposure to killing without thought can also increase one s own ability
to exercise uncivil behavior without hesitation or remorse. If a society s values are represented
in what that society chooses to watch, should we be concerned that our viewing choices revolve
around barbaric killer instincts? One too, however, could take the opposite look at what violent,
post apocalyptic television, particularly The Walking Dead , reflects about our society. Many
critics argue that The Walking Dead is ultimately a tale of one man s struggle to create peace and
unity for his family amidst a world of terror and strife. Our society s interest in disaster and
cataclysm is likely synonymous with our feelings of isolation and duress omnipresent in this
modern and technological age. The violence shown in The Walking Dead the fight for survival, the
loneliness, the internal struggles the characters face in response to the violence can be compared to
the challenges humans face every day.
In this society in which modernism distances humans from nature, each other, and often a
connection to what is genuinely important, it is easy to feel as though we are living in a dark

Adoptions With An Emphasis On The Adoption Of Infants

Unrelated Adoptions with an Emphasis on the Adoption of Infants
Introduction
Adoption is the process in which an adult legally becomes the guardian to a child or children that
are not biologically their own (Legal Information Institute, n.d.). Through adoption, a new family is
created and rather than looking at it as one event which many people mistakenly do it is a
lifelong process that has an effect on every aspect of all parties involved. While there are many
different components of adoption, this paper has a strong emphasis of unrelated adoptions, or
adoptions by adults who are not in any way biologically related to the child, and when fit, the
adoption process and effects specific to infants.
According to Crosson Tower (2013), adoption was originally intended for the benefit of the
adoptive parents. They would use adoption to carry on the family name or ensure they would
have enough workers/income for example. By the year 1929, all states in America had some form
of adoption. Most of the adoptions carried out at this time were from orphanages and orphan
trains. It was not until the early twentieth century where the emphasis was on the best interest of
the child . Some of the biggest strides made in adoption occurred in the1980 s where subsidies
were given to families who adopted children with special needs and permanency plans where

Harry Potter Music Analysis
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, John Williams employs diegetic music by having the
characters in the film sing a song that combines with the background music. The song Double
Trouble is sung by the school choir while the film score for the movie that reflects mysteriousness
and eeriness plays. The mood in the air is almost a sense of fear and paranoia as the students in
schooldon t feel safe after news broke of a prison breakout. The musicsupports that sense of fear as
the lyrics in the film along with the rest of the music alludes to the fact that trouble is near.

2d. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of leitmotif by
consistently playing the same music themes based on the scene. Leitmotif is defined by the
theme in the music that is associated with certain scenes, moods, or people. For an example,
whenever the movie tries to create a feeling of sadness felt by Harry s loneliness after having
lost his parents, there is sad music playing in the background that plays softly. By consistently
having this music played whenever Harry is feeling down, we begin to associate the connection
between the two. Another specific scene where the same sad theme is played in the background,
is when Harry looks into the mirror where he sees his parents. John Williams does this for all sorts
of moods whether it be happiness, sadness, or excitement as well as having music for specific
characters and settings.
2e. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of foreshadowing
in the scenes by having the music played leading up to a major event. For an example during the
scene where the characters are chased by a troll monster, there is frightening music being played.
We have not yet actually seen the monster, but rather can only hear his footsteps at this point.
Having the music in the background however, foreshadows the eventual doom that the characters
will face.

Time series momentum is important because it is one of the most direct tests of the random walk
hypothesis. During the analysis of time series predictability, deviations from random walk
hypothesis are found in return autocorrelation and variance ratios. Auto covariance exists between
time series momentum and cross sectional momentum and they are related. Over 25 years, time
series momentum is consistent across futures contracts and some asset classes, such as bond futures
and commodity futures. Time series momentum performs better in extreme events and hence, it can
be predictable. Moreover, the paper finds out the relationship between past futures returns and

The return premium is associated with time series momentum and investors can evaluate future
performance by analyzing past returns. It would facilitate the research development and discussion
in financial economics field for time series momentum and validity of random walk hypothesis.
(276 words) 4.Theory and data The paper contains several models. To understand the time series
predictability of future returns less than 1 year, returns of time series momentum is decomposed.
Regression analysis and time series momentum trading strategies are used. Regression analysis is to
predict the price movement, i.e. momentum and reversal. To set up the model, the excess return for
instrument is divided by their volatility, so as to be standardized to the same scale. T statistic is
used to test the model. Positive t statistic indicates momentum while negative sign indicates
reversals. For time series momentum trading strategies, the position size of each strategy is
inversely proportional to the instrument s ex ante volatility and the ex ante volatility is kept
constant, so as to maintain stability of the strategy. Pass excess returns are used in the model for
computing time series momentum strategy returns. Then, regression is carried out to compute
alpha and evaluate abnormal return of the strategies. To analyze the return from time series
momentum, a single time series momentum strategy (TSMOM) is used.

D. H. Lawrence Essay
It is a divided issue whether D. H. Lawrence is to be considered a friend or a foe to the feminist
movement. On one hand, he advocates an egalitarian man woman relationship, on the other, his
notion of equality seems rather subject to qualification. His reference to the ideal monogamous
partnership as phallic marriage (Spilka 7) is certainly a cue that must be taken up. Why is marriage
phallic unless the phallus is privilegedin the expression of sexuality? (de Beauvoir205) The
idealisation of gender relationships leads to an essentialisation of gender, which is itself at the
source of patriarchal domination. Is Lawrence really a liberator of sex, or only of patriarchal sex?
Does he grant more independence to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not because it is passionate or animalistic, it is because it is the meeting of two essentially
opposed and alien forces the two halves of human experience the masculine and feminine.
Sex is the balance of male and female in the universe, the attraction, the repulsion, always different,
always new... Sex goes through the rhythm of the year, in man and woman, ceaselessly changing:
the rhythm of the sun in his relation to the earth.
Marriage is the clue to human life, ...[but] marriage is no marriage that is not basically and
permanently phallic. (A Propos Lady Chatterly 40 42)
He goes on to describe the phallus as the column of blood that fills the woman s valley of blood
without ever breaking through and commingling. This ultimate nearness which still respects
individuality is the deepest mystery of science and religion, both of which are invoked in the
elaboration of Lawrence s theory. The problem, he feels with modern Europe is that sex is too
egoistic and conscious; one has sex for and with oneself1[1] and not as part of the expression of
natural forces. Only by abandoning the personal in sex can one hope to give rise to a new mystical
state of experience.

Socratic Era Socrates
Socrates and the Socratic Era of Philosophy
In 470 399 B.C. lived Socrates. Socrates, considered to be one of, if not the most influential
philosopher, is credited with teaching two of the other most famous philosopher: Pluto, and
Xenophon, as well as making huge contribution to Ethics, and being one of the founders of Western
Philosopher itself.
Born in Alopeke, Socrates belonged to the tribe Antiochis. Not much is known about his early life,
but his father was a sculptor, or stonemason, and his mother a midwife. He married a woman named
Xanthippe, who was known for having a harsh temperament, and with her, he had three children.
Working first as a stonemason, Socrates, while not usually credited in in modern scholarship,

One of his implied offenses to the city was claiming to be a moral and social critic. Rather than
accepting the the development of what he thought of as immorality within his city, Socrates
questioned the societally accepted notion of Might makes right , or rather, whatever somebody
says, goes, as long as they have the strength to defend themselves. Later on, Socrates student Plato
referred to him as The Gadfly , a person who challenges status quos and potential social
normalities. According to Plato, in his book Apology , Socrates friend Chaerephon asked the
Oracle of Delphi if anyone was wiser than Socrates. The Oracle said no one was. Socrates did not
believe the Oracle, because he believed he possessed no wisdom whatsoever. He proceeded to test
the riddle, by approaching men considered to be wise by the common people and questioned them.
Socrates thus concluded that while they were considered wise, they had no answers to questions of
larger, and philosophical nature. It was at that point that Socrates knew the Oracle was correct.
These Wise men thought themselves wise, yet were not. Socrates himself knew he was not wise,
thusly making himself wiser than all else. From this paradox (Named the Socratic Paradox), came

Despite Javouhey s initial fears and concerns about the July Revolution, the July Monarchy
ultimately benefited her interests. Curtis suggests that for the July Monarchy, that took a harder
stance against the slave trade than its predecessor, yet, fearing recapture and rebellion, was
reluctant to release slaves to Africa and the slave colonies, Mana was a safe and reasonable
solution that nicely aligned with their ideals. In Paris, Javouhey championed for her project during
audiences with Louis Philippe and Marie AmГ©lie, both of whom supported her and her cause.

She argues that although the founding members of female religious orders were often close . . .
four women who were sisters in blood, as well as religion, made for a particularly united front.
This unity inevitably contributed to both the congregation and the colony s success. Javouhey s
brother, Pierre Javouhey, and her cousins, Louis and LГ©opold Javouhey, all accompanied her to
French Guiana. Javouhey attempted to place her male relatives in positions that provided her with
allies while giving them work. For example, in 1839, she wrote to the Minister of the Navy,
naming Louis Javouhey and his two sons as her aides. Javouhey s use of family structure to
accomplish her goals extended beyond her blood. During both her attempts at colonizing Mana, in
her letters and reports, she frequently referred to the colonists as members of [her] family.
Commenting on the utility and authority familial hierarchies, she stated, La loi eГ»t Г©chouГ©

Consequently, Javouhey both addressed and treated the slaves under her authority as her adoptive
children. As the mother of the slaves, Javouhey exercised considerable influence and authority over
and instilled loyalty within them. By December of 1828, mere months after her arrival in French
Guiana, she noted that if anyone outside of the SЕ“urs de Saint Joseph de Cluny were to attempt to
replace her at Mana, it would be difficult because les colons ne veulent que nous pour chefs. After

World War I Was The First Major War
World War I was the first major war where technology was relied on more than the troops
themselves. After what was called the Second Industrial Revolution most major countries
started to create new technologies that in the end would pave the way for World War I. These
technologies ranged from the most used everyday things all the way up to specific types of
weaponry to be used in specific scenarios along the trenches. Most of these technologies of war,
developed from common civilian or household items, these could only result in better use in war.
These machines of war are so vast and expansive in type, but they are all technologies that would
have needed to have been used to bring the war to a close. Not only were machines a large part
but so was Scientific technologies, and innovations that saved or took the lives of many. In many
European countries two major types of transportation reigned over the newer types, these being
ships and trains. Both were used extensively and the usage of them would carry into World War I
,
changing tactics armies took and the speed of their movement as well as their survival. Ships
were used mainly for larger distances ( ie: America to Europe ) where Trains were only able to
carry smaller things along the front or from certain Capitals to the front itself. The usage of the
trains allowed for the movement of shells that were continually made in factories on the home
front, the shells could be run along from the Factories to the shelling

significant policy in the Chinese economics reform. It was a turning point that Chinese economy
got over the shock from the aggressive economic policies ahead and realized the economics

One of the most important changes is in resource allocation. Now, resource allocation is mainly
influenced by the market rather than the central planning. As the alternative mechanism,
government interventions take place when the market mechanism is not enough to maintain the
good performance of economy.

The policy was planned to attract foreign investors. And it works very well now. The investment
from overseas mainly contributes to key infrastructure sectors such as agriculture, forestry, energy,
transport, and raw materials. The investment helps the national economy recovered from the
economic depression in the long period of the Cultural Revolution and maintains a high rate of
growth.
Investment is recognized as an effective measure to maintain the economy stable and ease the
unemployment rate if financial crisis happens. When the global economic crisis happened in 2008,
Chinese government invested 4 trillion RMB for expansion of domestic demand because the
government thought that rarely depending on export cannot develop economy anymore. The fact
is, the financial crisis reduced the consumption capacity of developed countries and they decrease
the import from China. So, it is very important for Chinese government to do the investment. This
investment plays an essential role in the consequent good economic performance of China while a
wide range of severe economic depression happened in the world. However, now, many people
agree that that 4 trillion stimulus package is a overreaction for financial crisis and lead to
detrimental consequences.

Immanuel Kant (1724 1804):
Immanuel Kant was a modern day German deontologist from Prussia and became one of history s
most famous Philosophers. A deontologist is someone who believes in acts that are strictly right or
wrong. Kant was an influential thinker and one of the last philosophers of the Enlightenment era.
However his work in epistemology (the study of knowledge) and theology (the study of religion)
are still influential to current philosophers of our time. He was also known for his beliefs in ethics

An example of this would be our duty as humans to tell the truth, this would be considered a perfect
duty. Lying on the other hand would be considered an imperfect duty, because no one benefits from
lying. (Kristina)
The categorical imperative has different formulations; however there are three famous
formulations per my readings. The first is act only according to that maxim whereby you can at
the same time will that it should become a universal law . This is describing an action based on
perfect duty and imperfect duty. A perfect duty is an action that would be blameworthy if the
duty was not met and imperfect duty would be an action that would not be considered
blameworthy if not met because you made the attempt for the better good of the universe and
should be praised for taking on this action on your own. An example of this is a police officer who
is killed in the line of duty, he cannot be blamed for not completing his duties as an officer because
he died while doing his job; however the officer will be praised and honored by his family and
peers for doing his duty as an officer and doing his best to uphold the law. (Driver, 2006).
The second is Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person in the person
of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means . This formulation is

The Cohort Component Method For Many State And Local...
3.5 Cohort Component Method
One way to Project an area s population is the cohort component method, which is used for many
state and local governments. This method offers in depth demographic statistics on why and how
the population changes. There are 2 steps in this method. The first is to separate the population into
groups of age and sex. The second step is to implement fertility, mortality, and migration rates to
each distinct group. There are some things that have to be taken into account for this method
before computing anything. The first is that all of the age groups have to be the same in that the
years in the cohorts (n) are matching. The second is that the amount of years in the projection
intervals (z) should identify with the number of years in the cohorts (n). The last one is that all the
rates used in this model have to be altered to show five year projection periods.
3.5.1 The Mortality Component
The first thing we do is calculate the female population likely to survive until the year 2005. There
are two things that can happen which rely on the age specific survival rate (nsrx). The populations
for females in the initial year which is 2000 (nFx 2000) can move in the start of 2005 to the
following age cohort (n SFx+z 2005) or will live from 2000 to 2005 (n DFx 2000 2005). The first
calculation is to multiply the launch year of the female population in 2000 by its age specific
survival rate. n SFx+z 2005 =( nFx 2000 )( nsrx )
nFx 2000 is the female

Plot Summary Of The Movie The Castle
Introduction: The Castle, directed by Robert Sitch and produced in 1997, is arguably one of the
greatest Australian movies ever created. It is a peculiar, boorish and above all, humorous film, that
is loved by most Australians. With great use of trademark Aussie humour, amateur camera work
and Australian stereotyping, the movie can be very relatable to Australian viewers, typically those
of the blue collar working class level. Even with light hearted humour that could be taken
offensively, and seen as a dig at Australian culture, in my opinion, the Castle portrays the typical
Australian working class family and has an underlying message of being resilient and never giving

Ceruloplasmin
Ceruloplasmin is a serum ferroxidase that carries more than 90 % of copper in plasma and plays
an important role in iron homeostasis as well as antioxidative functions [105]. Ceruloplasmin best
known as copper binding protein, found in the plasma of vertebrate species, and is mainly
synthesized by the liver [106]. After ceruloplasmin was originally isolated from plasma by
Holmberg and Laurell [107], this proteinquickly became the subject of many investigations
concerning its function, molecular structure and the physical properties of the copper ions bound
to it [106, 108 111]. The ceruloplasmin gene was identified on the human 3q25 chromosome with
a molecular weight of ~132 kDa [112]. The molecule is composed of six compact domains, with

The ceruloplasmin protein contains more than 90% of copper in the plasma, but rather than strictly
functioning in copper metabolism, its main function appears to be a modulator of iron efflux via
oxidation [106, 108, 109]. Ceruloplasmin has been known to possess ferroxidase activity, the
ability to oxidize ferrous to ferric iron. This activity is required for its function in iron homeostasis
and is thought to reduce oxidative stress by inhibition of the Fenton reaction which uses Fe2+ to
generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) [106, 110]. Ceruloplasmin has also been demonstrated to
function as an acute phase protein activated by the host immune system during stress conditions

Business Case Analysis of Mass Merchandisers
ANNUAL GROWTH IN SALES Mass merchandisers sellers, grocery stores, club stores,
convenience stores represent the biggest opportunity to generate combined sales. WWAV and
GIS participate in highly competitive markets and have devoted substantial resources into
building their presence in the national and international segments. Both of these segments are
highly important into branding the products and increasing their market cap. Combined efforts,
manufacturers joint ventures, consumers, products and growth efforts would be potential key
success factors into the merger. Based on both companies yearly growth sales we forecasted the
annual growth sales as follows: WWAV FORECASTED SYNERGIES From 2011 to 2011,
WWAV the Cost of Sales (COS) increased 10.8% driven primarily by higher commodity costs,
increase in sales volume growth and a higher cost mix of products sold. We believe that post
acquisition that WWAV will be able to reduce the 10.8% COS to it s original standing plus
recoup an additional 33% by utilizing GIS purchasing power to achieve a 14% savings in COS.
Additionally, during the same period, WWAV experienced a 5.1% increase in selling and
distribution costs associated increased sales volume and storage facility costs. Post acquisition we
believe that WWAV can return to 2011 levels and gain additional 50% savings from GIS expansive
distribution channels and purchasing power to achieve savings of 7.7% towards operating
expenses. After acquiring WWAV, we

Evaluation Of Fungicides And Application Timing On Control...
Introduction The blackleg fungus is a major disease of canola and can cause significant losses. An
experiment to evaluate fungicides effect on blackleg was conducted by J.P. Damicone et. al. entitled
Evaluation of fungicides and application timing on control of black leg of winter canola, 2015 at
Oklahoma State University. This study involved evaluation of two fungicides, Proline and
Approach, applied at different times throughout the growing season to gauge their efficacy
controlling blackleg.
Blackleg
Black Leg of Canola Blackleg of canola is a disease that affects canola (Brassica napus) and other
Brassica spp. with the causal agent being a fungus, Leptosphaeria maculans (anamorph= Phoma
lingam). Canola is one of many cruciferous crops that is attacked by blackleg disease and losses
from the disease have been documented for over a century with the disease occurring in every
production area around the world (History occurrence impact, pg. 1).
Symptoms for blackleg include lesions, necrosis, stem cankers, shriveled seeds, premature
ripening, and lodging. When seedlings first emerge they can be killed in a manner similar to
damping off, but if the seedlings develop past emergence, lesions can develop on both the
cotyledons and leaves with a grayish appearance (History occurrence impact, pg. 1). As the crops
get larger, stem lesions called cankers develop and can restrict water flow causing premature
ripening and shriveled seeds (History occurrence impact, pg. 1). If

CIPD (2) defines Succession Planning as a process for identifying and developing potential future
leaders or senior managers, as well as individuals to fill other business critical positions, either in
the short or the long term .
Formal succession planning should be a systematic approach in preparing lower level employees to
handle the responsibilities of the senior management in the forthcoming years. It helps to identify
the capable employees who have the potential to fulfil these critical roles in the hierarchy.
This can be done informally, through discussions with management over a period of time or
alternatively, by more formal techniques, such as an assessment of competencies or regular
performance reviews.
Organisations need to consider succession planning alongside workforce planning, to ensure that
their longer term objectives can be delivered in the future by the right people with the right skills.
Succession planning can be applied to individual roles and to pools of positions, for which similar
skills are required.
In the case of individual and more senior roles, organisations will identify key roles and successors
for these roles, focussing on providing the necessary experience, talent and development to ensure
that they will succeed when reaching the senior management level in the future.
This can also be applied to pools of roles. By developing the generic skills required within groups,
it also provides

Essay on Mkt521 Case Swan s
Swan s Ice Arena
Case Analyze
Swan s Ice Arena is an ongoing hockey style arena in a city of 450,000 people. David Swan the
owner wants to increase profits by reaching public skaters outside the hockey and figure skating
format. Using only what information can be obtained from counting customers and reading
industry newsletters Mr. Swan, has made investments in equipment and promotions. To date the
returns on investment have been disappointing.
Mr. Swan has chosen a multiple target market approach putting all hockey and figure skaters in one
segment and all public skaters in another. This is not too many segment and all customers fit into a
segment. The problem is not enough data was gathered to determine how big each segment is, what

By being perceived as unique in value the arena should have some insulation against competitive
rivalry for the customer s dollars. Building customer loyalty has long term affects. This moves the
bargaining power for price into the hands of the arena, increasing margins. These strategies
together make for a more positive market orientation and there is compelling evidence that a
market orientation has a positive effect on firm performance (Hou, 2008). Having laid out a
framework of new strategies it s time to do some data mining to find the numbers for Swan s
perceived customers segments.
Data Mining
The government collects all kinds of useful information about our population. How many people
live where, incomes, family sizes, ages, do they rent or own a home, and lots more demographic
data that is free for the asking. Modern computer programs make possible for any company to take
the masses of demographics and analysis segment populations. This has propelled data mining to
the forefront of making customers relationships profitable (Ogwueleka, 2009). This will help Swan
understand his customers better and find association between each segment. Customer have life
cycle due in part to the time of year, so Swan can now structure his advertising and see results based
on a better segment model rather than just counting customers. Data mining can also be used in
customer retention applications identifying

Shelley s Frankenstein and Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Grey
What makes a man a monster
Stories of monsters have captivated readers attention since the very beginning even though the
definition of what a monster is perceived to be is complex and vague. The word monster and its
meaning in today s culture is very opinionated. Most people think of monsters in an evil sense
because of what todays pop culture has depicted a monster out to be. Shelley s and Wilde s
intentions for monsters were not to be taken out of context from how they originated. Shelly and
Wilde saw monsters in the people and in the world surrounding them. Upon viewing this they
recognized the true fear of determining one s identity. Once they viewed this event through the eyes
of the people, they deemed necessary that they should provide a lesson by writing Frankenstein and
The Picture of Dorian Gray. The lesson of the two books are that if the creator can not handle the
responsibilities of the creation process, then the creation will fail. If the creation fails, then
ultimately the creator fails and the true colors of mankind are shown. In the novel, The Picture of
Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, the main character is Dorian Gray. Gray s persona is contradictory
to itself in a way that one may not begin to comprehend him and his values, as not only a person
but as a human being . He s good, he is bad; he is beautiful, he is hideous; he is perfect, he is
incredibly flawed. Most importantly, he is literally two things at once he is himself, a living,
breathing human

In The Blink Of An Eye Sparknotes
I confess I initially thought In the Blink of an Eye was going to be a pretentious, drawn out
book about the technical side of editing. A great sense of dread flooded my body when I looked
at the amount of pages I had to read. It is not the thickest book I have ever read, but I guessed the
subject matter would make reading it a long process. Fortunately, I was wrong and I actually
enjoyed reading this book. Murch did speak on some of the technical aspects of editing, however;
he focused on the art of editing and how editing affects the story of a film. It is easy to present
different editing systems and review their benefits and downfalls, but he dives deeper. He explains
why something is cut or included in the frame. Most important, he examines... Show more content

Murch talks about digital filmmaking throughout the novel, but in the afterword he explains the
consequences of going digital. What surprised me the most about this section is how long digital
editing has been around. Everyone describes digital film editing as a new technological
innovation; however, it has been around for years. I think what is new is how accessible film
software and equipment is for independent filmmakers. You do not necessarily have to enroll in
film school, nor to do you need to move to Los Angeles to make movies. Ordinary people can

Mississippi Development Authority Of The Nissan Project
Introduction
In October 2000, Mississippi Development Authority contracted the Institute of Higher Learning to
conduct an impact study for the Nissan Project. State Economic Development Authorities wanted to
determine whether the Nissan project initially worth $930 million in investments will generate
substantial economic and fiscal benefits. Key findings of the study were also meant to serve as a
blueprint to estimate financial incentives deemed appropriate to support Nissan. And attract the
attention and approval of various stakeholders more importantly state legislators involved in the
recruitment process. It turned out, employment estimates generated from the study were considered

This initiative was to further enhance Mississippi s competitiveness in attracting Nissan through the
provision of physical infrastructure. State legislators approved approximately $295 million in
direct incentives for the new plant. Approximately $40.4 million of this was for site improvements,
and $80 million for recruiting and training. These subsidies were to be financed by Mississippi
taxpayers through general obligation bonds. To expedite the process, which is an indication of
commitment and cooperation among stakeholders, legislative process to approve the bond issue
was completed in 5 months instead of a more typical 18 months.
Nissan also received tax rebates associated with Job Tax Credits and the Advantage Incentive
programs. Nissan received corporate income tax rebate worth $5,000 for each direct job created.
Per the agreement, job tax credits were scheduled to run for 15 years on condition Nissan meet
the threshold of creating at least 3000 jobs. Tax credits not utilized in a given year can be carried
forward for up to five years. State authorities also extended these tax credits to Nissan auto
suppliers. The rationale to extend financial subsidies to Nissan s suppliers was to maximize the
fiscal and economic benefits to Mississippi s economy through inter linkages with other industries.
It was also agreed in principle that Nissan

A Proposal For A Resume
The purpose of this proposal is to gain permission to continue researching the topic of how to
build a resume, what stands out to employers, and what will disqualify a resume. This proposal
introduces the topic by discussing the problem and providing a solution. It will also provide the
scope of the report, the research methods, my qualifications, my work plan to complete the report,
and a draft of the reports table of contents.
Introduction
How to create a resume is not a skill that is taught very often anymore but it is a skill that is
expected. Expecting people to create a resume when they have no clue how to does not work.
Often people will find a template from the internet or word but employers can tell if a person
uses a template. Those templates give suggestion to what to fill in but people who either don t
have much work experience, are shy about their skills, or simply do not know what to put down
are at loss to what they should be putting down and what they should not. This report will address
how to avoid those issues.
Statement of Problem
Creating and having a resume is something that is expected of people in today s society but rarely
are people actually taught how to create a resume. High school is suppose to prepare the youth for
the world but how to create a resume is something that is not taught in any of the classes that a
student is required to take. There are templates online or in word but often students/people have no
clue what to actually put in

Two stories from different genres and different points of view, somehow deals the same theme.
Standing up for what is right may not always be the easiest path, there is was some consequence
that people have to pay for trying to make things right. Everyday there is something going on that
people want to change, but they cannot always stand up. In the story The Lottery, by Shirley

Summary Of The NovelThe Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
To a child, fantasy and reality often intermix. Children spend their days believing in the stories
that they have been told, their implicit trust in authority figures lending them no doubt that what
they are hearing is the unshakeable truth. In a sense, all books become historical texts. Why
would an adult, a knowledgeable and trustworthy source, ever write anything but fact? For C.S.
Lewis, this childish outlook on the world ensured that his novel The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe, would take root in the minds of children like an unkillable weed, affecting an entire
generation, and well beyond. The Catholic themes within the novel, while rather obvious to an
adult, were hidden well enough to be altogether invisible to its young audience. Lewis likely
included these themes and ideals to gently encourage a more religious and Catholic generation in
the future. Originally an atheist, Lewis converted to theism at the age of thirty and ultimately
converted to Catholicism two years later, (About C.S. Lewis). This shift towards a religious
mindset was likely due to the death of his father in September of 1929, the same year Lewis
abandoned atheism, (About C.S. Lewis). Death is hard for everyone, and Lewis likely wanted to
believe that his father was in a better place, and that they would one day meet again. Prior to his
conversion, Lewis had published only two books, both written under the pseudonym of Clive
Hamilton, (About C.S. Lewis). Neither featured any aspects of the

It is interesting to see and reveal the misconceptions of President Obama s motive to the speech for
more gun control and how politicians and individuals are stressing an emotional and safety concern.
Within this political environment, and with a charismatic and persuasive use of the pentads, the
rhetor s motive was to implement legislation regarding gun control. Barack Obama as the rhetor,
directed towards American people to pressure congress to pass new gun legislation in Connecticut,
where the massacre took place. After the December 16, 2012 shooting at Newtown Connecticut,
there has been a controversial debate among gun control. The National Rifle Association had
fiercely lobbied congress to oppose any gun regulations. In this artifact, Obama spoke on behalf of
the murders of twenty children and six adults killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. During his

Within two years she had published the novel Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus (1818).
Shelley came from well to do family, highly educated, and liberal background. She was married
to poet and philosopher Percy Shelley, and during a bleak summer of 1816, the couple famously
spent a summer with Lord Byron, John William Polidori, and Claire Clairmont near Geneva,

Mary Shelley often wrote her books on biographical, historical, romantic, and gothic themes.

However in regards to general results between both genders it was shown that no definite statistical
mean yielded notable results (Alansari Baroun, 2004). Stroop (1935) also showed that women
college students also showed a difference when compared to the men and tended to have higher
word reading results, but in regards to the genders showed no significant differentiation between
both at the cognitive level. Alansari and Baroun (2004) had participants state whether they were
color blind, dyslexic, or if they had previously ever taken the Stroop test before, it was important
that these interferences were factored out in order to obtain a conclusive observation in regards to
all the participants involved in the experiment. MacLeod (1991) had suggested that those with
disabilities tended to show high Stroop interference, also along with those with an attention deficit
disorder since maintaining concentration throughout the experiment and test is an important factor
in obtaining more accurate results without a significant outlier. Also different levels of interference

declined in the adult years since most have a peak of cognitive development and understanding in
adult years, but once again increased interference around the age of 60 (MacLeod,

Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep )
Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had
been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian
Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating
guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full
burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate
prevention measures for the disease.6
The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on
the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the
disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is
that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea
worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following
this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for
eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea
worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when
former United States President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of
the country and the Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of

A Research Study On Abstract- Vehicular Networks Essay
Abstract Vehicular networks or VANET announce as the communication networks of the future,
where the mobility is the main idea. These networks should be able to interconnect vehicles. The
optimal goal is that these networks will contribute to safer roads and more effective in the future by
providing timely information to drivers and concerned authorities. They are therefore vulnerable to
many types of attacks among them the black hole attack. In this attack, a malicious node
disseminates spurious replies for any route discovery in order to monopolize all data
communication and deteriorate network performance. Many studies have focused on detecting and
isolating malicious nodes in VANET. In this paper, we present two mechanisms to detect this
attack. The main goal is detecting as well as bypass cooperative black hole attack. Our approachs
has been evaluated by the detailed simulation study with NS2 and the simulation results shows an
improvement of protocol performance. .

I.INTRODUCTION
Ad hoc networks consist of a set of self organized of mobile nodes which cooperate using a routing
protocol to facilitate the communication. They have become very popular in recent years due to
their characteristics: easy deployment, lack of infrastructure, dynamic topology, mobility and
minimum commissioning costs.
A VANET network is a subset of ad hoc networks where each mobile node is an intelligent vehicle

An Investment Thesis Statement
2.6.1How Should You Pick Your Targets? Invest With a Thesis An investment thesis is a statement
on how a specific deal will create value for a partic ular merged company. This document explains
why and how an acquisition improves the existing core business. Firms compete on cost position,
brand power, customer loy alty, assets and sometimes government protection (Harding, D. and
Rovit, S. 2004). In order to develop an investment thesis you need to analyse the core competency
of your own business and how the firm produces value. Furthermore, acquires need to under stand
how to enhance core competency by acquiring outside targets. In order to suc cessfully identify
appropriate target the acquirer must determine its own basis of com petition.... Show more content

These revolve around the question of where do operations need to be integrated, and where the
merging businesses can carry on separately. To answer this work with four decision principles
(Harding, D. and Rovit, S. 2004). 1) Plan for ownership. Launch integration plans months prior to
the deal being publicly announced. Link decisions to the deal s in vestment thesis and to the
synergies and cultural issues identified. Integrate quickly in critical areas. 2) Target areas for
integration based on the investment thesis. Mergers aimed at creating economies of scale require
almost seamless integration. However, mergers aimed at product extension, customer and
geographic scope require selective integration. 3) Put culture high on your leadership agenda.
Managers of merged organi zations need to retool their corporate culture to fit with the deal s
investment thesis. Tools include hard tactics organizational structure, incentives compensation and
the di vision of decision making authority to address cultural integration. 4) Retain key re sources
in the core businesses. Mergers can exert a gravitational pull on employees. Keep the talented
focused on taking care of business. Develop a plan to maintain key employees and protect the
customer base. Effective integration generally ranks as the single most important factor influencing
the success of a deal (Harding, D. and Rovit, S.

Epigenetic Modifications on Histones
Epigenetic modifications on histones and DNA exercise precise regulation of gene expression, and
thus have a profound influence on cellular differentiation and function. The most widely studied
modification on DNA is 5 methylcytosine (5mC) that frequently occurs in a CpG dinucleotide
context. Initially, the de novo DNAmethyltransferase (Dnmt) enzymes Dnmt3a and 3b mediate the
transfer of the methyl group to cytosine, while the maintenance Dnmt1 ensures subsequent
propagation of this mark through cell replication cycles. Because of prominent roles in gene
repression, retro element silencing, X chromosome inactivation and gene imprinting, 5mC was
initially thought to be irreversible. Thanks to burgeoning evidence, it is now clear that the
methylcytosine can be removed through a number of mechanisms. Passive demethylation is
proposed to remove 5mC over several cell replication cycles, through exclusion of the maintenance
machinery from the replication fork. Active demethylation on the other hand constitutes removal of
5mC through enzymatic hydrolysis. The discovery of Ten Eleven Transclocation (TET)
dioxygenase proteins was revolutionary. The TET proteins catalyze hydroxylation of 5mC to
5hmC, and conversion of 5hmC to 5 carboxylcytosine and finally to 5 formylcytosine. These 5mC
derivatives enter the base excision repair pathway (BER), resulting in replacement of the
methylcytosine with an unmodified cytosine. Second, although the role of deaminases is debated,
these enzymes

Cellulase Producing Microorganisms Essay
Cellulase producing microorganisms
In nature, a wide variety of microorganisms, belonging to the eukaryotic (fungi) and prokaryotic
(eubacteria and actinomycetes) groups are known to produce cellulases (Gautam et al., 2012).
Their cellulolytic systems, however, vary from the free form in the aerobes to the complexed
cellulosomes in the anaerobes. The cellulose degraders can also be classified among the mesophilic
and thermophilic groups. Their physiological characteristics determine the type of environment
inhabited by them. However, the cellulolytic potential of cellulases from physiologically diverse
microbial sources is exploitable in various applications based on their specific relevance. Table 1

Thus, the foremost step in the biochemical conversion is the pretreatment of the biomass, which
involves the deconstruction of the cell wall into its components, i.e., the lignin, hemicellulose and
cellulose (Sun and Cheng, 2002; Kumar et al., 2009). The biomass can be pretreated using different
physical, chemical, biological or combination of these methods (Kumar et al., 2009). Each method
has its own advantages and limitations. The suitability of the pretreatment method depends on the
type of the biomass feedstock (Khare et al., 2015). The efficiency of the pretreatment step, however,
is the key factor determining the yield of the hydrolysis in the cellulosic ethanol production process
(Alvira et al., 2010) as it ensures the accessibility of the carbohydrate polymers for their subsequent
hydrolysis in the fermentable sugars. In the next step, i.e., the saccharification, the celluloses and
hemicelluloses are hydrolysed into C6 and C5 sugars with the help of cellulases and hemicellulases
enzymes respectively (Sarkar et al., 2012). The last step involves the conventional approach of
fermentation of C6 and C5 sugars into ethanol using either native or genetically modified
ethanologenic microbes (Gnansounnou and Dauriat, 2005).
The biomass saccharification can also be carried out using a chemical method of two stage

  • 2. Production Of The Automotive Industry Selected Review of Literature: Lean Manufacturing in Automotive Industry The automotive industry continues to grow every day. Companies are always coming out with new technology for cars to better their product. In order for these companies to keep a competitive advantage they most implement different types of manufacturing processes. One of these manufacturing processes is lean manufacturing. Sundar, Balaji and Satheesh have done research on lean manufacturing, and they define it as the elimination of waste by determining value added activities and non value added activities. Non value added activities consist of transportation, inventory, motion waiting, overproduction, over processing, and defects (2014). Elmoselhy has found multiple tools to be used to implement lean manufacturing. Some of these tools are: 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Single Minute Exchange Die, Kaizen, and Autonomation. This list does not include all of the possible ways to implement lean manufacturing, but gives a brief introduction to a couple. The 5S stands for Sorting, Setting, Shining, Standardizing, and Sustaining (2013). This paper will discuss one of the five S s, which will be standardizing. Also, this paper will also go into detail about how an automotive manufacturing company uses Single Minute Exchange Die, and some other aspects of lean manufacturing such as visual control and environmental management. Because lean manufacturing can be implemented in many different ways this paper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Canadian Firearms Program Case Study: Individual Preparation Report Name: Maruf Hashem Date: January 30, 2013 Case Title: Canadian Firearms Program Introduction Gun violence is serious social problem and Canada has a long history of firearms control. However, increasing costs to the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) has made it a lightning rod for criticism from both pro and anti gun advocates. Reports out of the media and Auditor General Sheila Fraser paint a picture of inefficiency, incompetence and mismanagement. This paper looks at the main issues faced by decision makers, analyses them, presents alternatives and makes recommendations based on the analysis. Key Issues (10 marks) Issue 1 (Most Important Issue): The first and most important issue to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analysis (10 marks) In dealing with the first issue, there are two distinct schools of thought. One led by gun advocates stating the irrelevance of gun control in reducing crimes while the other claiming its importance. The main argument against is the notion that no would be criminal would ever comply with it thereby diminishing, if not eliminating its effectiveness. Opponents also point to the steadily declining gun related deaths as evidence against any control. Proponents on the other hand point out that this reduction is due to fewer suicides rather than homicides. Opponents also argue that controlling gun access will only create a thriving black market for firearms. Proponents of the program state that the registry system is an invaluable tool for law enforcement officials. It helps to track firearms and assist in solving cases, while respecting the rights of law abiding citizens to own guns. Judging by the figures presented (exhibit 2) in the case, the sheer volume of queries appear to indicate that the registry indeed is an essential tool for police. In fact, law enforcement officers who are a key stakeholder in this program are in favor of it. The argument of a thriving black market can be reasonable disregarded, as there is no data to support it. Now, even if there is a necessity for a registry program, it still has to be efficient. ... • 4. The Walking Dead The Walking Dead AMC s gritty and gruesome apocalyptic hit The Walking Dead places the blood thirsty, agonized groans of zombies right in our living rooms. The show follows a small group of survivors in the midst of a zombie apocalypse that has decimated some seventy five percent of the population. The cable series which first premiered in 2010 made no bones about its weekly offering of flesh eating, blood splattered gore. The opening sequence of the pilot episode features a virus ridden little girl being thrust into the pavement when former sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) shoots a bullet into her skull as he struggles to ward off her flesh hungry zombie attack. The Walking Dead has since amassed quite the following of fans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the biggest fear, however, concerning viewership of The Walking Dead is the possibility it has of eschewing one s moral compass. Viewers continually watch protagonist Grimes and his cohorts violently kill and maim the walking dead without pause and vice versa. It leads one to wonder, if this prolonged exposure to killing without thought can also increase one s own ability to exercise uncivil behavior without hesitation or remorse. If a society s values are represented in what that society chooses to watch, should we be concerned that our viewing choices revolve around barbaric killer instincts? One too, however, could take the opposite look at what violent, post apocalyptic television, particularly The Walking Dead , reflects about our society. Many critics argue that The Walking Dead is ultimately a tale of one man s struggle to create peace and unity for his family amidst a world of terror and strife. Our society s interest in disaster and cataclysm is likely synonymous with our feelings of isolation and duress omnipresent in this modern and technological age. The violence shown in The Walking Dead the fight for survival, the loneliness, the internal struggles the characters face in response to the violence can be compared to the challenges humans face every day. In this society in which modernism distances humans from nature, each other, and often a connection to what is genuinely important, it is easy to feel as though we are living in a dark ... • 5. Adoptions With An Emphasis On The Adoption Of Infants Unrelated Adoptions with an Emphasis on the Adoption of Infants Nicole Scrivani University of Central Florida Unrelated Adoptions with an Emphasis on the Adoption of Infants Introduction Adoption is the process in which an adult legally becomes the guardian to a child or children that are not biologically their own (Legal Information Institute, n.d.). Through adoption, a new family is created and rather than looking at it as one event which many people mistakenly do it is a lifelong process that has an effect on every aspect of all parties involved. While there are many different components of adoption, this paper has a strong emphasis of unrelated adoptions, or adoptions by adults who are not in any way biologically related to the child, and when fit, the adoption process and effects specific to infants. According to Crosson Tower (2013), adoption was originally intended for the benefit of the adoptive parents. They would use adoption to carry on the family name or ensure they would have enough workers/income for example. By the year 1929, all states in America had some form of adoption. Most of the adoptions carried out at this time were from orphanages and orphan trains. It was not until the early twentieth century where the emphasis was on the best interest of the child . Some of the biggest strides made in adoption occurred in the1980 s where subsidies were given to families who adopted children with special needs and permanency plans where ... • 6. Harry Potter Music Analysis In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, John Williams employs diegetic music by having the characters in the film sing a song that combines with the background music. The song Double Trouble is sung by the school choir while the film score for the movie that reflects mysteriousness and eeriness plays. The mood in the air is almost a sense of fear and paranoia as the students in schooldon t feel safe after news broke of a prison breakout. The musicsupports that sense of fear as the lyrics in the film along with the rest of the music alludes to the fact that trouble is near. 2b. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of non diegetic music which is when the source of the sound is not visible on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2d. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of leitmotif by consistently playing the same music themes based on the scene. Leitmotif is defined by the theme in the music that is associated with certain scenes, moods, or people. For an example, whenever the movie tries to create a feeling of sadness felt by Harry s loneliness after having lost his parents, there is sad music playing in the background that plays softly. By consistently having this music played whenever Harry is feeling down, we begin to associate the connection between the two. Another specific scene where the same sad theme is played in the background, is when Harry looks into the mirror where he sees his parents. John Williams does this for all sorts of moods whether it be happiness, sadness, or excitement as well as having music for specific characters and settings. 2e. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of foreshadowing in the scenes by having the music played leading up to a major event. For an example during the scene where the characters are chased by a troll monster, there is frightening music being played. We have not yet actually seen the monster, but rather can only hear his footsteps at this point. Having the music in the background however, foreshadows the eventual doom that the characters will face. 2f. In Harry Potter and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the analysis of time series predictability, deviations from random walk hypothesis are found in return autocorrelation and variance ratios. Auto covariance exists between time series momentum and cross sectional momentum and they are related. Over 25 years, time series momentum is consistent across futures contracts and some asset classes, such as bond futures and commodity futures. Time series momentum performs better in extreme events and hence, it can be predictable. (276 words) 4.Theory and data The paper contains several models. To understand the time series predictability of future returns less than 1 year, returns of time series momentum is decomposed. Regression analysis and time series momentum trading strategies are used. Regression analysis is to predict the price movement, i.e. momentum and reversal. To set up the model, the excess return for instrument is divided by their volatility, so as to be standardized to the same scale. T statistic is used to test the model. Positive t statistic indicates momentum while negative sign indicates reversals. For time series momentum trading strategies, the position size of each strategy is inversely proportional to the instrument s ex ante volatility and the ex ante volatility is kept constant, so as to maintain stability of the strategy. Pass excess returns are used in the model for computing time series momentum strategy returns. Then, regression is carried out to compute alpha and evaluate abnormal return of the strategies. To analyze the return from time series momentum, a single time series momentum strategy (TSMOM) is used. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. D. H. Lawrence Essay It is a divided issue whether D. H. Lawrence is to be considered a friend or a foe to the feminist movement. On one hand, he advocates an egalitarian man woman relationship, on the other, his notion of equality seems rather subject to qualification. His reference to the ideal monogamous partnership as phallic marriage (Spilka 7) is certainly a cue that must be taken up. Why is marriage phallic unless the phallus is privilegedin the expression of sexuality? Later on, Socrates student Plato referred to him as The Gadfly , a person who challenges status quos and potential social normalities. According to Plato, in his book Apology , Socrates friend Chaerephon asked the Oracle of Delphi if anyone was wiser than Socrates. The Oracle said no one was. Socrates did not believe the Oracle, because he believed he possessed no wisdom whatsoever. He proceeded to test the riddle, by approaching men considered to be wise by the common people and questioned them. Socrates thus concluded that while they were considered wise, they had no answers to questions of larger, and philosophical nature. It was at that point that Socrates knew the Oracle was correct. This method offers in depth demographic statistics on why and how the population changes. There are 2 steps in this method. The first is to separate the population into groups of age and sex. The second step is to implement fertility, mortality, and migration rates to each distinct group. There are some things that have to be taken into account for this method before computing anything. The first is that all of the age groups have to be the same in that the years in the cohorts (n) are matching. The second is that the amount of years in the projection intervals (z) should identify with the number of years in the cohorts (n). The last one is that all the rates used in this model have to be altered to show five year projection periods. 3.5.1 The Mortality Component The first thing we do is calculate the female population likely to survive until the year 2005. There are two things that can happen which rely on the age specific survival rate (nsrx). The populations for females in the initial year which is 2000 (nFx 2000) can move in the start of 2005 to the following age cohort (n SFx+z 2005) or will live from 2000 to 2005 (n DFx 2000 2005). In the story The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, villagers gather in the town square, to the annual lottery, where only one person is lucky. • 27. Summary Of The NovelThe Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe To a child, fantasy and reality often intermix. Children spend their days believing in the stories that they have been told, their implicit trust in authority figures lending them no doubt that what they are hearing is the unshakeable truth. In a sense, all books become historical texts. Why would an adult, a knowledgeable and trustworthy source, ever write anything but fact? For C.S. Lewis, this childish outlook on the world ensured that his novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, would take root in the minds of children like an unkillable weed, affecting an entire generation, and well beyond. The Catholic themes within the novel, while rather obvious to an adult, were hidden well enough to be altogether invisible to its young audience. Lewis likely included these themes and ideals to gently encourage a more religious and Catholic generation in the future. Originally an atheist, Lewis converted to theism at the age of thirty and ultimately converted to Catholicism two years later, (About C.S. Lewis). This shift towards a religious mindset was likely due to the death of his father in September of 1929, the same year Lewis abandoned atheism, (About C.S. Lewis). Death is hard for everyone, and Lewis likely wanted to believe that his father was in a better place, and that they would one day meet again. Prior to his conversion, Lewis had published only two books, both written under the pseudonym of Clive Hamilton, (About C.S. Lewis). Neither featured any aspects of the ... Barack Obama as the rhetor, directed towards American people to pressure congress to pass new gun legislation in Connecticut, where the massacre took place. After the December 16, 2012 shooting at Newtown Connecticut, there has been a controversial debate among gun control. Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep ) Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate prevention measures for the disease.6 The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when former United States President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of the country and the Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida, ... • 35. A Research Study On Abstract- Vehicular Networks Essay Abstract Vehicular networks or VANET announce as the communication networks of the future, where the mobility is the main idea. These networks should be able to interconnect vehicles. The optimal goal is that these networks will contribute to safer roads and more effective in the future by providing timely information to drivers and concerned authorities. They are therefore vulnerable to many types of attacks among them the black hole attack. In this attack, a malicious node disseminates spurious replies for any route discovery in order to monopolize all data communication and deteriorate network performance. Many studies have focused on detecting and isolating malicious nodes in VANET. In this paper, we present two mechanisms to detect this attack. The main goal is detecting as well as bypass cooperative black hole attack. Our approachs has been evaluated by the detailed simulation study with NS2 and the simulation results shows an improvement of protocol performance. . Keywords VANET; AODV; Black Hole;Ad Hoc; NS2 I.INTRODUCTION Ad hoc networks consist of a set of self organized of mobile nodes which cooperate using a routing protocol to facilitate the communication. They have become very popular in recent years due to their characteristics: easy deployment, lack of infrastructure, dynamic topology, mobility and minimum commissioning costs. This document explains why and how an acquisition improves the existing core business. Firms compete on cost position, brand power, customer loy alty, assets and sometimes government protection (Harding, D. and Rovit, S. 2004). In order to develop an investment thesis you need to analyse the core competency of your own business and how the firm produces value. These revolve around the question of where do operations need to be integrated, and where the merging businesses can carry on separately. To answer this work with four decision principles (Harding, D. and Rovit, S. 2004). 1) Plan for ownership. Launch integration plans months prior to the deal being publicly announced. Link decisions to the deal s in vestment thesis and to the synergies and cultural issues identified. Integrate quickly in critical areas. 2) Target areas for integration based on the investment thesis. Mergers aimed at creating economies of scale require almost seamless integration. However, mergers aimed at product extension, customer and geographic scope require selective integration. 3) Put culture high on your leadership agenda. Managers of merged organi zations need to retool their corporate culture to fit with the deal s investment thesis. Tools include hard tactics organizational structure, incentives compensation and the di vision of decision making authority to address cultural integration. 4) Retain key re sources in the core businesses. • 40. Epigenetic Modifications on Histones Epigenetic modifications on histones and DNA exercise precise regulation of gene expression, and thus have a profound influence on cellular differentiation and function. The most widely studied modification on DNA is 5 methylcytosine (5mC) that frequently occurs in a CpG dinucleotide context. Initially, the de novo DNAmethyltransferase (Dnmt) enzymes Dnmt3a and 3b mediate the transfer of the methyl group to cytosine, while the maintenance Dnmt1 ensures subsequent propagation of this mark through cell replication cycles. Because of prominent roles in gene repression, retro element silencing, X chromosome inactivation and gene imprinting, 5mC was initially thought to be irreversible. Thanks to burgeoning evidence, it is now clear that the methylcytosine can be removed through a number of mechanisms. Passive demethylation is proposed to remove 5mC over several cell replication cycles, through exclusion of the maintenance machinery from the replication fork. Active demethylation on the other hand constitutes removal of 5mC through enzymatic hydrolysis. The discovery of Ten Eleven Transclocation (TET) dioxygenase proteins was revolutionary. The TET proteins catalyze hydroxylation of 5mC to 5hmC, and conversion of 5hmC to 5 carboxylcytosine and finally to 5 formylcytosine. These 5mC derivatives enter the base excision repair pathway (BER), resulting in replacement of the methylcytosine with an unmodified cytosine. Second, although the role of deaminases is debated, these enzymes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their cellulolytic systems, however, vary from the free form in the aerobes to the complexed cellulosomes in the anaerobes. The cellulose degraders can also be classified among the mesophilic and thermophilic groups. Their physiological characteristics determine the type of environment inhabited by them. Thus, the foremost step in the biochemical conversion is the pretreatment of the biomass, which involves the deconstruction of the cell wall into its components, i.e., the lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose (Sun and Cheng, 2002; Kumar et al., 2009). The biomass can be pretreated using different physical, chemical, biological or combination of these methods (Kumar et al., 2009). Each method has its own advantages and limitations. The suitability of the pretreatment method depends on the type of the biomass feedstock (Khare et al., 2015). The efficiency of the pretreatment step, however, is the key factor determining the yield of the hydrolysis in the cellulosic ethanol production process (Alvira et al., 2010) as it ensures the accessibility of the carbohydrate polymers for their subsequent hydrolysis in the fermentable sugars. In the next step, i.e., the saccharification, the celluloses and hemicelluloses are hydrolysed into C6 and C5 sugars with the help of cellulases and hemicellulases enzymes respectively (Sarkar et al., 2012). The last step involves the conventional approach of fermentation of C6 and C5 sugars into ethanol using either native or genetically modified ethanologenic microbes (Gnansounnou and Dauriat, 2005).
