Early College High School Initiative Case Study
Success in a typical high school setting could be defined as working through four years of classes,
completing homework, activities, projects, and tests, and culminating with a walk across a graduation
stage to receive a High School Diploma. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation had a different and
more challenging idea for high schools when they developed the Early College High School Initiative.
This Initiative was a collaborative effort between their Foundation, Jobs for the Future and several
other partner organizations. The goal was to create schools where challenge, not remediation, couple
with substantial supports and free college courses in high school, can result in college success for
students underrepresent in higher education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LCECHS maintained the core principles developed by the Early College High School Initiative, as
indicated by the mission statement on their website (reference lcechs website):
The Early College High School will genuinely engage first generation college bound students to
complete a rigorous curriculum, supported by technology, that is clearly aligned to student interest and
state standards. Flexible coursework will be provided in a challenging and supportive environment
with an applied learning focus that provides students a structure that enables them to earn their high
school diploma and to overlap those efforts with those needed to earn an associate degree, leading to a
bachelor degree and employment.
The educators at LCECHS all work towards the same goal by challenging students in the high school
classroom to promote their success with college and beyond. LCECHS defines the success of their
students when, after four years completing a combination of high school and college courses, they
walk across the graduation stage for their High School Diploma and also walk across another
graduation stage for their Associates Degree

Why Attending School
I have not attended many different schools but I know that they all have more than one thing in
common, and these things need to be changed somehow, they are just not working. Whether you are
attending primary school, secondary school or college there are always issues with how we are taught,
what is being taught to us and how will it help us at the end of the day. I am sure there are many
reasons why we are taught the way we are and why we need to learn these things. The list is endless.
My entire school life I have come to discover patterns from different students including myself.
Attending school and learning is not boring or tiring. The schedule, the process and the reasoning
behind going to school is unfitting. First they tell us what time we have to be in class without even
considering the time of year and what season it is. It does not sound like much to worry about. But I
have realized that students tend to wake up late during the winter, they take longer getting out of the
bed and tend to eat and sleep more meaning they have less time to focus on homework no attending
classes. The early, cold and dark mornings during winter make it hard for students to leave their beds.
The issue is not waking up, the issue is getting out of the bed. Even though a student might know that
they will get into trouble for missing a lesson, they would rather deal with the teacher than go and face
the cold especially at 7h45 in the morning. What I am trying to say is, in the winter we

What Are The Differences Between The World And Disneyland
Disney World vs. Disneyland
Many people wonder if there is much of a difference between Disney World and Disneyland.
Travelers have questions like, Which one is more worth going to or Which one is cheaper? Those who
have visited both parks may already know some distinct differences, but there are some things people
don t realize. While Disney World and Disneyland seem almost identical, their accommodations,
attractions, and size are surprisingly very different, which helps prove Disney World is the better
option when trying to really get the full experience.
The first major difference is attractions. While both parks may have some of the same titled rides, they
can be very different versions of each other. Suzanne Rowan Kelleher of tripsavvy.com states,
Since the Magic Kingdom was based on Disneyland, the two parks are very similar in layout and
share some but not all of the same attractions. Yet even when both parks offer the same ride, there are
frequently differences. For example, the Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean attractions at
Disneyland are longer and considerably different to the Disney World versions.
This gives a clear example of how the rides have the same name but can vary greatly. While both
parks have attractions that the other doesn t, Disney world has many more unique attractions than
Disneyland.
The second major difference is size. It is commonly known that Disney World is much bigger than
Disneyland. After the first Disney park,

Essay On Human Life
The Definition of a Human Life In 1998 scientists shocked the world with the discovery of human
embryonic stem cells. This sparked curiosity and enlightenment in the eyes of medical professionals
everywhere. Nineteen years later the world is riddles with a plethora of controversy, fabrication, and
fallacies in regards to the use of embryonic stem cells. Contrary to this, these super cells have the
growing potential to put an end to many medical disputes. Firstly, to understand the stigma and
information behind embryonic stem cell research, there must be a common understanding of what a
stem cell is. Stem cells are a class of undifferentiated cells that are able to differentiate into specialized
cell types (The MNT Editorial Team). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, you must know the advantages and disadvantages of embryonic stem cell usage. Since most
embryos that are used in ESC research are obtained from IVF treatments, this reduces the rate of
embryos that are being destroyed after treatment is over since there can only be one embryo used at a
time and cannot be saved. Scientists also now have improved their knowledge in birth defects because
ESCs can be turned into models for these birth defects. The wide array of possibilities these cells can
achieve are impeccable, from curing cancer to being able to replace damaged tissue all over the body.
However, the disadvantages of these cells are where the social stigma occurs. Starting with the
possibility of rejection when placed in the body is something many are wary about. This would cause
the patient to be put on anti rejection medication for the rest of his/her life. Another disadvantage
being most spiritual people believe in life at the point of conception. Even though the blastula show no
physical attributes of a human being and have no chance of developing into a baby unless embedded
into the uterine wall, devout Christians still see this as murder . Scientists have also not achieved full
understanding of the capability of ESC and do not yet know how to control their constant need to
divide and form new cells which could result in tumors and large masses of unwanted tissue
(Occupytheory). This brings on the

The New Immigration And The Upheaval Of The Civil Rights...
It is in this context of new immigration and the upheaval of the Civil Rights movement that
multiculturalism was chosen as the concept that addressed present and provided for past shifts in the
racial and ethnic makeup of the United States. Faced with groups who did not fit into (the recently
challenged) white/black racial hierarchy but were deemed as distinct from that of (white) US
American culture, those natives of the United States needed to find a new rhetoric and ideology that
could represent the new reality of the United States. In addition, many of those arriving in the U.S. did
not speak the same racial language as U.S. Americans i.e. they did not understand their personal
identities within the framework of U.S. racial relations.

Strategy And Execution Of The Blue Ocean
To shift from Red Ocean to blue ocean, emphasis must be made to the six principles/steps that leads to
the formulation and execution of the blue ocean strategy. Chan and Maubourgne identified that the
first step to create the blue ocean strategy is to reestablish the market limit to breach competition so
that the blue ocean becomes apparent using the six path framework. The challenge a company faces in
order to succeed is spotting the opportunities. The six steps are:
1. Look for possible alternatives with exceptional value to choose from rather than a mere substitute;
2. Examine the industry where the company is in to determine which factors dictates customers to
move from one group to another to stand out in the strategic group the company is in;
3. Question the current market and focus on the previously neglected segment of the market, be it the
purchaser, the user or the buyer;
4. Conceive complementary products and services to create a value curve;
5. Shift buyer s appeal from emotional to functional or functional to emotional; and
6. Identify decisive, irreversible trends that have clear trajectory and implement change to unlock new
opportunities.
The second step to creating the blue ocean is strategizing, by focusing on the big picture the
performance of the organization, instead of getting caught up in the operational detail. This is what
differentiates those in the Red Ocean from those in the blue ocean. According to the authors, the four
steps to visualize

Thesis Statement For Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina By Willow Harris
Thesis Statement: Hurricanes happen every so often and cause many people to lose their home or
loved ones. Hurricanes have the ability to affect the spheres of the Earth. One of the most memorable
hurricanes is hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005 and hit the Gulf Coast and New
Orleans. It damaged forests and gave tons of people anxieties about global warming. Our goal today is
to find how hurricane katrina affected each sphere.
Recommendations: If a hurricane happens near you, you should stay indoors and away from any doors
or windows. Listen the TV or radio for instructions and to be told when the storm has passed. Close all
interior doors. Try to stay on the bottom floor in a small room or a closet. Go under a table or some
other sturdy object.

James Joyce Essay
In selecting James Joyce s Ulysses as the best novel of the twentieth century, Time magazine affirmed
Joyce s lasting legacy in the realm of English literature. James Joyce (1882 1941), the twentieth
century Irish novelist, short story writer and poet is a major literary figure of the twentieth century.
Regarded as quot;the most international of writers in English¡K[with] a global reputation (Attridge,
pix), Joyce s stature in literature stems from his experimentation with English prose. Influenced by
European writers and an encyclopedic knowledge of European literatures, Joyce s distinctive writing
style includes epiphanies, the stream of consciousness technique and conciseness.

Hauptmann s comprehensive version of the portrait of an artist helped Joyce develop his own
interpretation. A further clarification was provided by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche
(1844 1900). Joyce adapted Nietzsche s concept of the Superman in developing his portrait of an
artist. Although Joyce rejected the Catholic Church all his life, Reynords, in Joyce and Dante: The
Shaping Imagination clams that the Italian poet and the greatest of Catholic poets Dante Alighier
(1265 1321) quot;whose influence pervades all Joyce s writing is never cowed by authority quot;
(Attridge p. 56 57). Perhaps that is why Joyce was attracted to Dante s writing.
amp;#9;Of all his literary countryman, the only Irish literary who s left a profound impression on
Joyce was that Irish nationalist poet, James Clarence Mangan (1803 1849). In the short story
quot;Araby, quot; Joyce pays tribute to the poet by naming the narrator s classmate, Mangan. Joyce
identified with Mangen because of his linguistic skill and knowledge of the literature of Italy, Spain,
France and Germany. Furthermore, Mangan was disdained by his Irish contemporaries a gesture Joyce
considered an act of treachery.

Masculinity In Moonlight
Music plays in the background as a blue vintage car pulls into a driveway. The car stops, and so does
the music. The driver, a middle aged black man tosses a pack of cigarettes on the dashboard and steps
out of the car. This is the opening scene of Moonlight, written by Barry Jenkins and Tarrell Alvin
McCraney. Moonlight follows Chiron, an African American boy throughout three periods of his life,
portrayed by three different acts: Little, Chiron and Black. It is a film that influenced my perspective
on African American social life on multiple levels, specifically the presence of hyper masculinity, the
view on sexuality and the drugs in struggling communities. Moonlight is one of the few glimpses I ve
had of primarily black communities, and certainly the first glimpse of a gay African American boy
growing up in a black community I have seen in any form of mainstream media.
Prior to watching this movie, I didn t know much about many aspects of African American social life
in regards to sexuality, drugs and hyper masculinity. I thought that it was more or less similar to the
views on sexuality and hyper masculinity I have witnessed in my own life. The mainstream views on
masculinity and sexuality (specifically in boys) I have witnessed are primarily that being masculine is
a positive trait for boys, and that if one is not at least slightly masculine, they are either gay or joking.
In regards to the presence of drugs in struggling black communities, I only know of what I hear

Edward Hirsch Taught the World to Appreciate Poetry Essay
Edward Hirsch taught everyone to love and appreciate poetry to its greatest potential. Born in Chicago
on January 20, 1950, he began writing at a young age and his traditional writing style of formal with a
small creative twist. He strengthened America Poetry and gave a different view of literary criticism.
Like any other eight year old boy, Hirsch loved sports, but he also fell in love with poetry. He found
and read a copy of Emily Brontë s Spellbound and loved it. As a child, he did not read a lot or really
enjoy it, but through his mother s coaxing with books about sports, he read. Hirsch s grandfather
helped develop his poetic skills. His grandfather wrote poetry but his was very unconventional
because he wrote in Hebrew from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hirsch wrote his poetry in a fixed villanelle form yet was creative with his volatile cadences, dramatic
monologues, and elliptical and lean lyric sequences (Barker 216). Edward Hirsch studied at Grinnell
College and the University of Pennsylvania receiving a PhD in folklore. He went on to teach at Wayne
State University and the University of Houston. After teaching for seventeen years at the University of
Houston, Edward Hirsch left to focus on his writing which he began prose writing. He wrote four
books which taught the reader how to read, appreciate, and how he wrote poetry. His first two books
written in 1999 are Responsive Reading and How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry. The
later of the two was a national bestseller and a product of a lifetime of passionate reflection (Edward
Hirsch poets.org 1) by the poet Garrett Hongo. Hirsch s third book, The Demon and the Angel:
Searching for the Source of Artistic Inspiration, was written in 2002, and Poet s Choice, a collection of
two years worth of his weekly writings for the Washington Post Book World was published in 2007.
Hirsch s books are literary criticisms of poetry but in a new way. Literary criticism before had been
very academic and jargon filled which frustrated him, At a certain point I decided because I was
frustrated by criticism and a little appalled by the way that poets had turned over the craft to literary
theorists without advocating on

Public Opinion of the Affordable Care Act
Nearly two years ago the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into
place by President Obama. This signature placed by President Obama has never rested especially well
with the American public. As to be expected, the views on health care laws are colored by
partisanship. Overall, the opinions towards the health car law have wavered slightly since the passing
in March of 2010, and support has yet to reach favorable in 2014.
Role of Public Opinion
Even with the public being well aware of the elements of the health care law, particularly individual
mandates, there is still a lack of understanding of it. According to Pinto (2013), 41 percent of
Americans felt they had a good understanding of what the new law entailed, but even after two years
and implementation the number has increased just six points to 47 percent. The purpose behind public
opinion was to make more affordable health care insurance for uninsured citizens originally (Pinto,
2013). Supporters of the Affordable Care Act believed that government run insurance companies could
successfully lower rates by using greater leverage than the private industry (Pinto, 2013). Supporters
of such public plans, believed that a small set of companies had control for local health insurance
markets. Having such public opinion at such a huge national level meant insurance companies would
cooperate. Many Democratic Politicians were publically in favor of public opinion for many reasons

The Importance Of Nursing Homes Are The Best Places For...
With the growth of the aged population, finding the suitable accommodation for the elderly becomes a
popular topic of interests. From that, an increasing number of the elderly are sent to nursing homes,
the facilities that specialized in aged care and are regarded as the ideal places for old people. However,
some question whether nursing homes are truly the best places for the elderly. This essay will argue
that there are still some issues that need to be addressed in nursing homes, which may probably even
make the elderly s lives worse. In this case, nursing homes are not the best places for the aged people.
Firstly, the facilities and staffs of nursing homes are possibly not as adequate as one would like to
imagine. One reason that nursing homes are described as the suitable places for the olds is that they
provide specialized facilities, doctors, nurses and care recipients to protect the health for the elderly.
Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has set some standards for nursing homes and the Standard 2
Health and personal care shows that nursing homes must put efforts on Staff development, Clinical
care, Specialized nursing care needs and Medication management. However, the facilities are actually
rarely checked to ensure that they meet the standards of basic health and safety (Brodwin, 2014) as
well as the percentages of nursing homes that lack adequate staffs to properly care for patients and
have been in violation of elderly abuse laws are 91% and 36% respectively

Human Rights Speech Essay
If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, it is that human rights are women s

Women s Rights are Humans Rights. Clinton is widely known as the democratic candidate running in

Being invited by the secretary general of the United Nations makes her credibility appear stronger,
because it is an honor to be invited by someone of such importance to a national organization. She
also states, Tomorrow, I will attend a gathering of the United Nations Development Fund for women,
(Clinton). Again being invited by the UN. Clinton s expertise on the topic also helps her credibility.
Clinton states, Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women,
children, and families. Her providing the amount of time she has worked with women s rights and that
she has worked continuously on these issues makes her more credible. Being a woman provides
enough credibility to be able to speak on the rights of women, but traveling to other countries and
seeing how their women are treated contributes a proper understanding of how dire the situation truly
is.
A final element which makes this speech effective is the use of style. Towards the middle of Clinton s
speech, she is talking about the violation of human rights. She begins seven sentences with It is a
violation of human rights... and using this phrase provides power for her statements:
It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food...

Bowling For Columbine
Bowling for Columbine is a documentary made by the filmmaker, Michael Moore in 2002. This
documentary looks into the mysterious circumstances leading to the Columbine massacre in 1999, in
which, 2 students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, aged 17 and 18 years, in their final year of high
school, had killed 13 (12 students and 1 teachers), injuring many, before turning the gun on
themselves. By utilising satirical, but persuasive dialogue and visuals, Michael Moore delves within
the reasons of America s high gun violence using the Columbine massacre at its base.
Throughout the documentary, Michael Moore retains quite the neutral perspective, but, having been
born in Michigan (A gun loving state), Michael has a history with guns, having won ... Show more

Moore also illustrates how America tends to use force instead of dialogue and how, they re quite
offensive in their foreign policies, by showing all the archived footage of America having their hands
in foreign relations, like, in 1963 to 1975 Americans had killed 4 million people in Southeast Asia.
Moore had made one generalisation, where he states that American news had favoured negative stores,
whereas, Canadian news had covered positive ones, where we don t actually know if Canadian news is
positive 24/7. To guard against media paranoia, we have to analyse the probability of the story
happening to us or someone we know and read between the lines to uncover the facts of the story.
Even after the film, many questions are still left unanswered, Why are there so many gun related
deaths in America? Why do so many students shoot up schools in America? and Why is Canadian
society so different to America? these are just a few of the unanswered questions left behind by
Michael Moore after he suggests some ideas, Moore as well didn t give any solutions to the problem
of the high gun related violence in America. Another voice we didn t get to hear was the parents of the
victims or shooters of Columbine, so we don t know if parenting was the problem that had caused so
much of the outrage and sadness of gun violence in

Benefits Of Girl Scouts
The Girl Scouts started in 1912 with only a small number of girls. Juliette Low, the founder, was
inspired to create the Girl Scouts after she went to a party in 1912. At this party, she met Robert Baden
Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, and wanted to create a similar program of the opposite gender.
In present time, there are now millions of participating girls in this organization. Starting at the age of
5, a girl can enlist to become a Girl Scout and partake in the activities that range from hiking to
camping to selling cookies. The starting rank is Daisy which is grades Kindergarten to first grade. The
top and final rank is Ambassador which is grades eleven to twelve. This program is a success because
it has created women of high status after they left, does not discriminate against others when
recruiting, but it has also lost the initial perspective from when it was originally created. The Girl
Scouts are a success because the women that have graduated from the program have become women
of high status in the world. Of the twenty one female senators that are currently serving, 75% of
current female senators were girl scouts (GirlScouts.org 1). To become a senator for a state, you must
be thirty years old, been a United States citizen for nine years, and must reside in that specific state.
There are two senators per state and they possess the power to review and discuss bills while also
proposing legislation and helping the president. Another high status that

Flower Drum Song was based on the 1957 novel, The Flower Drum Song, by Chinese American
author C. Y. Lee. It was the eighth stage musical by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar

This dichotomy reinforces the orientalist notion of the West as male and the East as the female.
But, despite these differences, they both share a crucial value: preserving the patriarchal system, even
if it results in their own commodification. When analyzed in the barest of terms, both of these women
want to get married, and their actions steer them towards that objective. Incidentally, in striving
toward that goal, they become things, not people. Mei Li allows herself to be inspected like an animal
or manufactured product, and Linda s song I Enjoy Being a Girl places the utmost importance on her
appearance, not her personality or intellect.
Race Representation and the Generation Gap
One way that representation of race manifests itself in Flower Drum Song is through a generation gap:
the older versus newer generation. If we compare Ta to his father, there is a clear distinction in both
their dress and their speech. Ta wears American suits and ties while Master Wang wears stereotypical
Chinese garb. He even accidentally burns his suit when he is forced to wear one. Wang also holds on
to a more traditional way of doing things. He is hesitant to put his money in the bank, and when his
sister in law finally convinces him to do so, he is unaware of how to behave in such a contemporary
western setting and sets off the alarm, momentarily creating a frenzy. His scenes with his younger son

Islamic Legal Reformers Of The Twentieth Century
I. Introduction As Talal Asad has noted, religion is by no means disappearing in the modern world,
and, [i]f anything is agreed upon, it is that a straightforward narrative of progress from the religious to
the secular is no longer acceptable. (Asad: 2003: 1.) At the same time, and in relation particularly to
the contemporary rise of Islam, [t]he question of secularism has emerged as an object of academic
argument and of practical dispute. (Ibid.) The common view is that Islam and secular modernism
constitute a duality, forever at odds, while others argue that the religious and the secular are a false
duality and are indeed mutually constitutive of each other. (Agrama: 2). Viewed either way, the
resurgence of Islam gives rise to important questions regarding its relationship to the secular modern
state. In this short paper, I propose to engage with the works of two Islamic legal reformers of the
twentieth century: Mohammed Abduh s classic Theology of Unity , first published in 1897, and
Ahmad Safwat s lesser known article, The Theory of Mohammedan Law, published in a British law
journal in 1920. Though quite different, both works are emblematic of this period in Islamic history
when traditional Islamic law struggled to identify its proper role with respect to the increasing power
and transcendence of the modern secular state. Moreover, each work is representative of two views of
Islam and secular modernism and represent the genesis of both

Suicide s Note By Langston Hughes
Suicide s Note Not all poems fall into the category of epic poetry or ballads. Some pieces are short
and concise rather than lengthy and elegant. A shorter poem may focus more thoroughly on diction, or
the author s specific choice of words, rather than things such as rhyme scheme or meter. Langston
Hughes poem Suicide s Note is a perfect example of this. Because it is only twelve words long, every
single word is important and chosen carefully. This poem uses many literary techniques, none more
than diction, to achieve its purpose. which is to focus on the split second decision that is suicide. To
begin, Hughes uses his diction to create a distinct mood for his poem. For example, when one reads
the poem without first reading the title, The calm, Cool face of the river Asked me for a kiss, they may
create in their own head a calm, positive or happy mood. The words may remind one of summer days
at the lake or the beautiful view of a river valley. The author does this on purpose as he wants the

The Mongols DBQ
The Mongols were a group of people who conquered lands and impacted a large part of the world.
Although the Mongols were known for their cruel tactics of conquering, they ended up benefiting as
much as they killed. The Mongols had a skillful army, but they influenced greater goods as they
conquered.
The Mongols were a nomadic group, who relied greatly on their animals and their trade for survival.
Shortage of their animals and their trade could be significantly detrimental to their survival. In
document 1, The Mongols in World History , one of the main reason for the Mongols conquest was a
drop in temperature. The document states Mongolia experienced a drop in the mean annual
temperature, which meant that the growing season ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mongols specifically influenced Europe. In document 5, by the author Robert Guisepi, the Mongols
influenced trade. It states in the document making possible the exchange of food, tools, and ideas on
and trade routes brought great wealth to traders ( Doc 5). After the Roman Empire fell, the Silk Road
also fell. This was significant because many other Empires depended on the silk road to trade goods,
and keep their Empire going. Later on, the Mongols strengthen the Silk road. They built many new
bridges and set up many trading posts, the Silk road became safer and easier to travel. This was one
way they benefited the world, because many Empires depended on the trading route. The Mongols
were aiding other Empires. In document 6, by the author Gregory Guzman, the Mongols also had an
impact on the world by influencing the way Europeans viewed the rest of the world. In the document
it states they were exposed to different cultures beliefs, values, values, attitudes, and in
situations...They began to realize that they had to deal with and relate to the non Christian world with
its many different peoples. (Doc 6). Before the Mongols were isolationist, they didn t interact with
certain parts of the world because of their beliefs and values. The Mongols came along and made
Europeans more internationalist, they started interacting with the rest of the world more frequently,
whereas before they neglected them. Europeans and the rest of the world became interconnected,
which meant there was cultural diffusion. This is significant because if Europeans became more

How do we determine the worth of a life? Is each life valued uniquely? When it comes to life, where

The Qualities of a Leader
The qualities of one s leaders play a vital role in determining the success or failure of a society.
Virtuous leaders let a nation succeed when its at its greatest peril. The effectiveness of the leader
allows the nation to be great and the fulfill their mission. Over the years, the view on what an effective
government is has changed. In the 6th Century China, a Philosopher named Lao Tzu saw an effective
government as one that used war last, that the ideal form of governing is to have minimal effect on
peoples lives. In the 13th Century Italy, Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher, advised that the
prince should be well versed in the art of war, and should exercise qualities and laws that bring them
praise so their position is not disputed. While both views seem to be extreme of a spectrum it will be
clear the Machiavelli s Prince is the better leader for the modern society.
On the Subject of war and conflict, Lao Tzu deems it a last resort as it leads to suffering no matter the
outcome. When a country goes counter to the Tao, warheads are stockpiled outside the cities. (Kindle
Locations 1934 1935) Lao Tzu here is stating that once we stray from the ideal path, pain and
suffering will follow. Fear is the greatest enemy and is what leads to conflict. It is once a person finds
pleasure in war, they lose themselves and are no longer his idea of the ideal man and is instead a

Impacts And Effect Of Fracking
Impacts and Affects of Fracking Hydraulic fracturing is one of the main reasons for the rapid increase
in gas and oil production in the recent times. Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a technique, which
helps in recovering gas and oil from shale rocks. The process of fracking requires drilling into the
Earth before high pressure liquids directed at the rock help to release the gas trapped inside it. Water,
sand and various other chemicals injected into the rocks, with great pressure, that allow the gas to flow
out of the well. The process can be carried out vertically and horizontally, however it is common to
use the latter as it helps in creating more ways to release gas. In 2011, the United States produced 8.5
million cubic feet of natural gas, a value of nearly $36 billion, from shale gas alone. As a result, the
U.S. is now the world s top manufacturer of natural gas. Imported gases compose merely 8 percent of
total natural gas consumption in the United States. Since America does not rely on imported gas, the
United States has balanced it trade as the U.S. domestic supply has grown to meet its demand.
Business magnate T. Boone Pickens stated, Natural gas is the best transportation fuel. It is better than
gasoline or diesel. It is cleaner, it is cheaper, and it is domestic. Natural gas is 97% domestic fuel.

Aristotle s Virtue Ethics
Ethics in Engineer, Is it Virtuous?
Aristotle developed a type of ethics that many use throughout the world, virtue ethics. Virtue ethics
can be defined as an act that is right if, and only if, a virtuous person performs it for the right reason.
That begs the question, What is a virtuous person? A virtuous person is someone who conforms to
moral and ethical principles. For the sake of argument, morality is the difference between right and
wrong. I will discuss Aristotle s virtue ethics, how they apply to engineering, and how Dr. Harris s
claims differ from those of Aristotle.
Aristotle laid out three points in his theory of virtue ethics: eudaimonia, arête, and telos. First,
eudaimonia is achieving ultimate happiness within oneself. In Aristotle s mind, eudaimonia means you
have lived a good life and you are using reason to help feed the soul. The second point in his theory is
arête or virtue. Aristotle describes arête as becoming the ultimate of ones kind. According to Aristotle,
humans should strive every day to be the best we can be and to live the good life. Finally, telos is said
by Aristotle to be the final cause or end. All of us are living our lives here on earth and take different
paths along the way. One component of our lives is the same no matter our culture, religion, or
ethnicity and that is death. The way we live our lives and seek that final cause is what Aristotle
believes is important. Engineers are use to derivations, Aristotle believed that any moral

Bud Light Rhetorical Analysis Essay
In Bud Light s advertisement for Bud Light Lime a lime flavored beer they use persuasive techniques
by depicting a giant beer bottle on a sunny island and attractive females around it with the slogan,
Dive into some lime and you ll have a good time, in order to get people to purchase their product. The
three main persuasive techniques are called: logos, pathos, and ethos. Logos is an appeal to logic as a
method of persuasion by reason, while pathos is an appeal to emotion in order to persuade. Lastly,
ethos is persuasion by way of ethics and presentation of character. The advertisement for Bud Light
Lime includes two of the previously mentioned techniques. The Bud Light advertisement uses pathos
and ethos to persuade potential consumers into buying Bud Light Lime. First, they use pathos by
showing the sunny island and mentioning you ll have a good time . This shows pathos because sunny
days and islands are associated with happiness to most people and this idea is further back up by the
promise of fun. Second, ethos is used by having attractive women next to the bottle. By doing this,
Bud Light is implying that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Character Analysis Of Iago Of Othello
At first glance, Iago of Othello can appear to have little motivation for his destructive tendencies;
however, when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, his incentive takes on a
twisted internal logic. His all consuming desire for revenge is not necessarily because of any outside
influence by Othello himself, but rather the fact that Othello disrupts Iago s conception of himself and
is a pawn whom he can manipulate for pleasure. His arrogance and entitlement are also classic
symptoms of antisocial personality disorder, as is his superficial charm, which allows him to enlist the
assistance of Roderigo in his plot to destroy Othello s marriage.

For example, act 1 scene 1 depicts him and Roderigo discussing Othello s impending marriage.
During this scene, Roderigo mentions that Iago hast had [his] purse/ As if the strings were thine (1.1.2
3). A common symptom of antisocial personality disorder is the inability to handle money responsibly,
whether because of an unreliable source of income or reckless spending (Personality and Personality
Disorders, 88). In either case, from the first scene of the play it is clear that he is leeching off of
Roderigo for personal gain. His disorder appears to manifest itself differently depending on the person
with whom he is interacting, as shown when he speaks to Emelia and his charming, relatively eloquent
exterior melts away into an aggressive, rude figure. This behavioral pattern indicates that Iago is a
fundamentally antisocial person, not reacting to a specific negative situation.
Iago reveals a good deal about the inner workings of his mind when he states that But for [his] sport
and profit. [He] hate[s] the Moor (1.3.386). He relates this to the alleged adultery between his wife
and Othello, but when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, it becomes literally
true. According to the DSM, such individuals are frequently motivated by pleasure seeking. The
reasons which Iago gives for his hatred of Othello do not stand up to scrutiny when his hostile

Kurt Cobain ( 1967-1994 ) Essay
Kurt Cobain (1967 1994) was one of the most inventive and ingenious musicians not only in the 1990s
but in all of the twentieth century. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the grunge rock band
Nirvana from 1987 to his death in 1994. Along with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl
(who was the band s third and final drummer) changed the concepts of hard rock, punk, and heavy
metal: and brought it to mainstream media. Before his rise to fame, Cobain had a rough childhood
from his parents divorcing to being bullied in school. According to Biography.com: He[Cobain]
excelled at drawing, so much so that his talents were even apparent in kindergarten. He also learned to
play piano by ear and enjoyed a kiddie drum kit his parents had given him. ...After his parents
divorced when he was nine, Cobain became withdrawn. He went to live with his father after the
divorce. On the weekends, he would visit his mother and his sister. When his father remarried, Cobain
resented his stepmother Jenny and her two children. One of the bright spots of this difficult time was a
present he received from his uncle Chuck a guitar. Although the instrument was fairly beat up, it
inspired Cobain to learn to play and it offered him a respite from his unhappiness at home. Alienated
and angry, he believed that his father always took his stepmother s side and favored her children and
his half brother Chad who had been born in 1979. Cobain began experimenting with drugs in his mid
teens, and

Sometimes men cannot rise to the occasion, and even if they do, they do so only for a short while, then
they go back to sleep. Others feel they are either too short or too skinny to stand up and take care of

Anticipation and Suspense in the Adventure of the Speckled...
How does Conan Doyle create a sense of anticipation and suspense in the Adventure of the Speckled
Band?
The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a classic mystery novel. It is so in the way that it uses several
writing techniques to create a sense of ambiguity and vagueness. Conan Doyle makes sure to leave the
reader with as little information as possible and to make it hard to foresee what will happen next. This
is all to have them anticipate the ending and the solving of the mystery, to keep them gripped. Even
the very title of the novel is unclear and does well to conjure up ideas inside the readers mind. It is
only until the whole story is took in and the ending is unveiled that the reader can fully appreciate and

The meeting of Helen Stoner is very important. She is described as having veiled and fully black
attire. This suggests that she is in mourning. She is also described as having frightened eyes, like those
of a hunted animal, and being very agitated and trembling. Conan Doyle regularly uses this technique
of showing the reader the symptom before a cause is established. It is much more shocking. This is all
to construct the readers sympathy for Helen Stoner, but also instigate fear in whatever it is she fears.
Conan Doyle also uses this meeting as a means to show the reader the significance of apparently
minor and trivial clues in the story that unfolds. Sherlock Holmes deduces
Helen s mode of travel by observing that she has the second half of a train ticket in the palm of her
hand. This allows him to safely assume that Helen has travelled to him by train that morning. This
technique warns the reader to be on lookout for what may seem like trivial details if they want to try to
solve the mystery. It also allows Conan to throw in some red herrings in order to divert the reader and
throw them off the trail.
Helen Stoner goes on to describe her family and her circumstances, in particularly her Stepfather. Her
description of him suggests to the reader that he is monstrous, brutal and feared by everyone.
In a fit of anger, however, caused by

most human efforts. Most of the time, acquiring that success requires hard work, perseverance, and
dedication. Yet it is often difficult to maintain the continual motivation needed to overcome the
frequent obstacles and setbacks that litter the road to success. C.P Neck s and C. Manz s book,
Mastering Self Leadership: Empowering Yourself for Personal Excellence, explores strategies and
tools to strengthen the key attribute that provides sustenance for an individual s motivation, self

As the author s shifted focus to psychologically driven concepts, such as mental and thought patterns,
the strategies shifted from creating a positive environment to overcoming obstacles. One of the first
steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an imagined experience .
Envisioning success bolsters a person s morale and provides a renewed vigor with which to attack the
obstacle.
Although the text focused on self leadership, the authors did discuss how self leadership is directly
tied into the success of teams. The same strategies, which improve self leadership in oneself, can be
extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal setting, strong team beliefs and team mental
imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team, there must be a
balance of me and we , meaning that while individualistic goals must be set and followed, they must
coincide with team goals and neither should outweigh the other. The importance of fitness to self
image and self leadership was the penultimate strategy discussed in the text. Studies illustrated the
benefits of fitness resulting in improved job performance and professional satisfaction. Lastly, the text
discussed the importance of life factors such as happiness, emotional satisfaction, and social
responsibility to self leadership. Different personality types approach

Hoverboards In The Film Back To The Future

come and gone, what progress has happened in the field of hoverboards? The answer is quite a bit,
although all of the modern versions fall short of the urban sports equipment featured in the film. Here
are the top five contenders for the title of hoverboard. Self balancing smart scooter, the first product to
be mass produced with the claim of being a hoverboard, is in fact not much more than a Segway

  • 2. Early College High School Initiative Case Study Success in a typical high school setting could be defined as working through four years of classes, completing homework, activities, projects, and tests, and culminating with a walk across a graduation stage to receive a High School Diploma. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation had a different and more challenging idea for high schools when they developed the Early College High School Initiative. This Initiative was a collaborative effort between their Foundation, Jobs for the Future and several other partner organizations. The goal was to create schools where challenge, not remediation, couple with substantial supports and free college courses in high school, can result in college success for students underrepresent in higher education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LCECHS maintained the core principles developed by the Early College High School Initiative, as indicated by the mission statement on their website (reference lcechs website): The Early College High School will genuinely engage first generation college bound students to complete a rigorous curriculum, supported by technology, that is clearly aligned to student interest and state standards. Flexible coursework will be provided in a challenging and supportive environment with an applied learning focus that provides students a structure that enables them to earn their high school diploma and to overlap those efforts with those needed to earn an associate degree, leading to a bachelor degree and employment. The educators at LCECHS all work towards the same goal by challenging students in the high school classroom to promote their success with college and beyond. LCECHS defines the success of their students when, after four years completing a combination of high school and college courses, they walk across the graduation stage for their High School Diploma and also walk across another graduation stage for their Associates Degree ... • 3. Why Attending School I have not attended many different schools but I know that they all have more than one thing in common, and these things need to be changed somehow, they are just not working. Whether you are attending primary school, secondary school or college there are always issues with how we are taught, what is being taught to us and how will it help us at the end of the day. I am sure there are many reasons why we are taught the way we are and why we need to learn these things. The list is endless. My entire school life I have come to discover patterns from different students including myself. Attending school and learning is not boring or tiring. The schedule, the process and the reasoning behind going to school is unfitting. First they tell us what time we have to be in class without even considering the time of year and what season it is. It does not sound like much to worry about. But I have realized that students tend to wake up late during the winter, they take longer getting out of the bed and tend to eat and sleep more meaning they have less time to focus on homework no attending classes. The early, cold and dark mornings during winter make it hard for students to leave their beds. The issue is not waking up, the issue is getting out of the bed. Even though a student might know that they will get into trouble for missing a lesson, they would rather deal with the teacher than go and face the cold especially at 7h45 in the morning. What I am trying to say is, in the winter we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Are The Differences Between The World And Disneyland Disney World vs. Disneyland Many people wonder if there is much of a difference between Disney World and Disneyland. Travelers have questions like, Which one is more worth going to or Which one is cheaper? Those who have visited both parks may already know some distinct differences, but there are some things people don t realize. While Disney World and Disneyland seem almost identical, their accommodations, attractions, and size are surprisingly very different, which helps prove Disney World is the better option when trying to really get the full experience. The first major difference is attractions. While both parks may have some of the same titled rides, they can be very different versions of each other. Suzanne Rowan Kelleher of tripsavvy.com states, Since the Magic Kingdom was based on Disneyland, the two parks are very similar in layout and share some but not all of the same attractions. Yet even when both parks offer the same ride, there are frequently differences. For example, the Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean attractions at Disneyland are longer and considerably different to the Disney World versions. This gives a clear example of how the rides have the same name but can vary greatly. While both parks have attractions that the other doesn t, Disney world has many more unique attractions than Disneyland. The second major difference is size. It is commonly known that Disney World is much bigger than Disneyland. After the first Disney park, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Human Life The Definition of a Human Life In 1998 scientists shocked the world with the discovery of human embryonic stem cells. This sparked curiosity and enlightenment in the eyes of medical professionals everywhere. Nineteen years later the world is riddles with a plethora of controversy, fabrication, and fallacies in regards to the use of embryonic stem cells. Contrary to this, these super cells have the growing potential to put an end to many medical disputes. Firstly, to understand the stigma and information behind embryonic stem cell research, there must be a common understanding of what a stem cell is. Stem cells are a class of undifferentiated cells that are able to differentiate into specialized cell types (The MNT Editorial Team). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, you must know the advantages and disadvantages of embryonic stem cell usage. Since most embryos that are used in ESC research are obtained from IVF treatments, this reduces the rate of embryos that are being destroyed after treatment is over since there can only be one embryo used at a time and cannot be saved. Scientists also now have improved their knowledge in birth defects because ESCs can be turned into models for these birth defects. The wide array of possibilities these cells can achieve are impeccable, from curing cancer to being able to replace damaged tissue all over the body. However, the disadvantages of these cells are where the social stigma occurs. Starting with the possibility of rejection when placed in the body is something many are wary about. This would cause the patient to be put on anti rejection medication for the rest of his/her life. Another disadvantage being most spiritual people believe in life at the point of conception. Even though the blastula show no physical attributes of a human being and have no chance of developing into a baby unless embedded into the uterine wall, devout Christians still see this as murder . Scientists have also not achieved full understanding of the capability of ESC and do not yet know how to control their constant need to divide and form new cells which could result in tumors and large masses of unwanted tissue (Occupytheory). This brings on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is in this context of new immigration and the upheaval of the Civil Rights movement that multiculturalism was chosen as the concept that addressed present and provided for past shifts in the racial and ethnic makeup of the United States. Faced with groups who did not fit into (the recently challenged) white/black racial hierarchy but were deemed as distinct from that of (white) US American culture, those natives of the United States needed to find a new rhetoric and ideology that could represent the new reality of the United States. In addition, many of those arriving in the U.S. did not speak the same racial language as U.S. Americans i.e. they did not understand their personal identities within the framework of U.S. racial relations. ... • 7. Strategy And Execution Of The Blue Ocean To shift from Red Ocean to blue ocean, emphasis must be made to the six principles/steps that leads to the formulation and execution of the blue ocean strategy. Chan and Maubourgne identified that the first step to create the blue ocean strategy is to reestablish the market limit to breach competition so that the blue ocean becomes apparent using the six path framework. The challenge a company faces in order to succeed is spotting the opportunities. The six steps are: 1. Look for possible alternatives with exceptional value to choose from rather than a mere substitute; 2. Examine the industry where the company is in to determine which factors dictates customers to move from one group to another to stand out in the strategic group the company is in; 3. Question the current market and focus on the previously neglected segment of the market, be it the purchaser, the user or the buyer; 4. Conceive complementary products and services to create a value curve; 5. Shift buyer s appeal from emotional to functional or functional to emotional; and 6. Identify decisive, irreversible trends that have clear trajectory and implement change to unlock new opportunities. The second step to creating the blue ocean is strategizing, by focusing on the big picture the performance of the organization, instead of getting caught up in the operational detail. This is what differentiates those in the Red Ocean from those in the blue ocean. According to the authors, the four steps to visualize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hauptmann s comprehensive version of the portrait of an artist helped Joyce develop his own interpretation. A further clarification was provided by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche (1844 1900). Joyce adapted Nietzsche s concept of the Superman in developing his portrait of an artist. In the short story quot;Araby, quot; Joyce pays tribute to the poet by naming the narrator s classmate, Mangan. Joyce identified with Mangen because of his linguistic skill and knowledge of the literature of Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Furthermore, Mangan was disdained by his Irish contemporaries a gesture Joyce considered an act of treachery. amp;#9;Joyce s use of the stream of consciousness technique first appeared record these epiphanies with extreme care, quot;seeing that they themselves are the moments. quot; (Kalasty, p.199) Although all the stories ... Moonlight follows Chiron, an African American boy throughout three periods of his life, portrayed by three different acts: Little, Chiron and Black. It is a film that influenced my perspective on African American social life on multiple levels, specifically the presence of hyper masculinity, the view on sexuality and the drugs in struggling communities. Moonlight is one of the few glimpses I ve had of primarily black communities, and certainly the first glimpse of a gay African American boy growing up in a black community I have seen in any form of mainstream media. Prior to watching this movie, I didn t know much about many aspects of African American social life in regards to sexuality, drugs and hyper masculinity. I thought that it was more or less similar to the views on sexuality and hyper masculinity I have witnessed in my own life. The mainstream views on masculinity and sexuality (specifically in boys) I have witnessed are primarily that being masculine is a positive trait for boys, and that if one is not at least slightly masculine, they are either gay or joking. • 15. Public Opinion of the Affordable Care Act Nearly two years ago the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into place by President Obama. This signature placed by President Obama has never rested especially well with the American public. As to be expected, the views on health care laws are colored by partisanship. Overall, the opinions towards the health car law have wavered slightly since the passing in March of 2010, and support has yet to reach favorable in 2014. Role of Public Opinion Even with the public being well aware of the elements of the health care law, particularly individual mandates, there is still a lack of understanding of it. According to Pinto (2013), 41 percent of Americans felt they had a good understanding of what the new law entailed, but even after two years and implementation the number has increased just six points to 47 percent. The purpose behind public opinion was to make more affordable health care insurance for uninsured citizens originally (Pinto, 2013). Supporters of the Affordable Care Act believed that government run insurance companies could successfully lower rates by using greater leverage than the private industry (Pinto, 2013). Supporters of such public plans, believed that a small set of companies had control for local health insurance markets. From that, an increasing number of the elderly are sent to nursing homes, the facilities that specialized in aged care and are regarded as the ideal places for old people. However, some question whether nursing homes are truly the best places for the elderly. This essay will argue that there are still some issues that need to be addressed in nursing homes, which may probably even make the elderly s lives worse. In this case, nursing homes are not the best places for the aged people. Firstly, the facilities and staffs of nursing homes are possibly not as adequate as one would like to imagine. One reason that nursing homes are described as the suitable places for the olds is that they provide specialized facilities, doctors, nurses and care recipients to protect the health for the elderly. Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has set some standards for nursing homes and the Standard 2 Health and personal care shows that nursing homes must put efforts on Staff development, Clinical care, Specialized nursing care needs and Medication management. However, the facilities are actually rarely checked to ensure that they meet the standards of basic health and safety (Brodwin, 2014) as well as the percentages of nursing homes that lack adequate staffs to properly care for patients and have been in violation of elderly abuse laws are 91% and 36% respectively ... Moore had made one generalisation, where he states that American news had favoured negative stores, whereas, Canadian news had covered positive ones, where we don t actually know if Canadian news is positive 24/7. In present time, there are now millions of participating girls in this organization. Starting at the age of 5, a girl can enlist to become a Girl Scout and partake in the activities that range from hiking to camping to selling cookies. Introduction As Talal Asad has noted, religion is by no means disappearing in the modern world, and, [i]f anything is agreed upon, it is that a straightforward narrative of progress from the religious to the secular is no longer acceptable. (Asad: 2003: 1.) At the same time, and in relation particularly to the contemporary rise of Islam, [t]he question of secularism has emerged as an object of academic argument and of practical dispute. (Ibid.) The common view is that Islam and secular modernism constitute a duality, forever at odds, while others argue that the religious and the secular are a false duality and are indeed mutually constitutive of each other. (Agrama: 2). Viewed either way, the resurgence of Islam gives rise to important questions regarding its relationship to the secular modern state. In this short paper, I propose to engage with the works of two Islamic legal reformers of the twentieth century: Mohammed Abduh s classic Theology of Unity , first published in 1897, and Ahmad Safwat s lesser known article, The Theory of Mohammedan Law, published in a British law journal in 1920. Though quite different, both works are emblematic of this period in Islamic history when traditional Islamic law struggled to identify its proper role with respect to the increasing power and transcendence of the modern secular state. Moreover, each work is representative of two views of Islam and secular modernism and represent the genesis of both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Suicide s Note By Langston Hughes Suicide s Note Not all poems fall into the category of epic poetry or ballads. Some pieces are short and concise rather than lengthy and elegant. A shorter poem may focus more thoroughly on diction, or the author s specific choice of words, rather than things such as rhyme scheme or meter. Langston Hughes poem Suicide s Note is a perfect example of this. Because it is only twelve words long, every single word is important and chosen carefully. This poem uses many literary techniques, none more than diction, to achieve its purpose. which is to focus on the split second decision that is suicide. To begin, Hughes uses his diction to create a distinct mood for his poem. For example, when one reads the poem without first reading the title, The calm, Cool face of the river Asked me for a kiss, they may create in their own head a calm, positive or happy mood. The words may remind one of summer days at the lake or the beautiful view of a river valley. The author does this on purpose as he wants the reader to be relaxed. With the title, Suicide s Note, attached, however, the mood automatically becomes more solemn. Hughes gives his readers this title because he wants them to understand that this poem has a meaning beyond what can be seen at first glance. Nothing in these lines really reveals a tone, or the author s attitude toward the subject, which makes the mood that much more more important. The author establishes that his, or anyone s, thoughts or feelings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lao Tzu Qualities Jean Christo Marintchev Professor Vaez English 103 24 September 2017 The Qualities of a Leader The qualities of one s leaders play a vital role in determining the success or failure of a society. Virtuous leaders let a nation succeed when its at its greatest peril. The effectiveness of the leader allows the nation to be great and the fulfill their mission. Over the years, the view on what an effective government is has changed. In the 6th Century China, a Philosopher named Lao Tzu saw an effective government as one that used war last, that the ideal form of governing is to have minimal effect on peoples lives. In the 13th Century Italy, Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher, advised that the prince should be well versed in the art of war, and should exercise qualities and laws that bring them praise so their position is not disputed. While both views seem to be extreme of a spectrum it will be clear the Machiavelli s Prince is the better leader for the modern society. On the Subject of war and conflict, Lao Tzu deems it a last resort as it leads to suffering no matter the outcome. When a country goes counter to the Tao, warheads are stockpiled outside the cities. • 28. Impacts And Effect Of Fracking Impacts and Affects of Fracking Hydraulic fracturing is one of the main reasons for the rapid increase in gas and oil production in the recent times. Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a technique, which helps in recovering gas and oil from shale rocks. The process of fracking requires drilling into the Earth before high pressure liquids directed at the rock help to release the gas trapped inside it. Water, sand and various other chemicals injected into the rocks, with great pressure, that allow the gas to flow out of the well. The process can be carried out vertically and horizontally, however it is common to use the latter as it helps in creating more ways to release gas. In 2011, the United States produced 8.5 million cubic feet of natural gas, a value of nearly $36 billion, from shale gas alone. As a result, the U.S. is now the world s top manufacturer of natural gas. Imported gases compose merely 8 percent of total natural gas consumption in the United States. Since America does not rely on imported gas, the United States has balanced it trade as the U.S. domestic supply has grown to meet its demand. Business magnate T. Virtue ethics can be defined as an act that is right if, and only if, a virtuous person performs it for the right reason. That begs the question, What is a virtuous person? A virtuous person is someone who conforms to moral and ethical principles. For the sake of argument, morality is the difference between right and wrong. I will discuss Aristotle s virtue ethics, how they apply to engineering, and how Dr. Harris s claims differ from those of Aristotle. Aristotle laid out three points in his theory of virtue ethics: eudaimonia, arête, and telos. First, eudaimonia is achieving ultimate happiness within oneself. In Aristotle s mind, eudaimonia means you have lived a good life and you are using reason to help feed the soul. The second point in his theory is arête or virtue. Aristotle describes arête as becoming the ultimate of ones kind. According to Aristotle, humans should strive every day to be the best we can be and to live the good life. Finally, telos is said by Aristotle to be the final cause or end. All of us are living our lives here on earth and take different paths along the way. One component of our lives is the same no matter our culture, religion, or ethnicity and that is death. The way we live our lives and seek that final cause is what Aristotle believes is important. • 31. The Character Analysis Of Iago Of Othello At first glance, Iago of Othello can appear to have little motivation for his destructive tendencies; however, when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, his incentive takes on a twisted internal logic. His all consuming desire for revenge is not necessarily because of any outside influence by Othello himself, but rather the fact that Othello disrupts Iago s conception of himself and is a pawn whom he can manipulate for pleasure. His arrogance and entitlement are also classic symptoms of antisocial personality disorder, as is his superficial charm, which allows him to enlist the assistance of Roderigo in his plot to destroy Othello s marriage. Individuals with antisocial personality disorder are characterized by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, act 1 scene 1 depicts him and Roderigo discussing Othello s impending marriage. During this scene, Roderigo mentions that Iago hast had [his] purse/ As if the strings were thine (1.1.2 3). A common symptom of antisocial personality disorder is the inability to handle money responsibly, whether because of an unreliable source of income or reckless spending (Personality and Personality Disorders, 88). In either case, from the first scene of the play it is clear that he is leeching off of Roderigo for personal gain. His disorder appears to manifest itself differently depending on the person with whom he is interacting, as shown when he speaks to Emelia and his charming, relatively eloquent exterior melts away into an aggressive, rude figure. This behavioral pattern indicates that Iago is a fundamentally antisocial person, not reacting to a specific negative situation. Iago reveals a good deal about the inner workings of his mind when he states that But for [his] sport and profit. [He] hate[s] the Moor (1.3.386). He relates this to the alleged adultery between his wife and Othello, but when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, it becomes literally true. According to the DSM, such individuals are frequently motivated by pleasure seeking. The reasons which Iago gives for his hatred of Othello do not stand up to scrutiny when his hostile ... It was even catastrophic for a country like Maldives that never experienced disasters of such scale. While some of the islands in Maldives were completely destroyed and a significant number of lives lost; the damages to economy, infrastructure, environment and human psyche was immeasurable (Pardasani, 2006, p. 80). Having only dealt with storm surges and localized flooding, there were no operational plans or capacity to deal with a disaster of this magnitude in Maldives (Government of Maldives, et al., 2005, p. 9). A national plea for aid was broadcasted on national and private media (both television and radio station) and updates of tsunami and its affect were continuously reported on media channels (Haleem, A. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the grunge rock band Nirvana from 1987 to his death in 1994. Along with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl (who was the band s third and final drummer) changed the concepts of hard rock, punk, and heavy metal: and brought it to mainstream media. Before his rise to fame, Cobain had a rough childhood from his parents divorcing to being bullied in school. The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a classic mystery novel. It is so in the way that it uses several writing techniques to create a sense of ambiguity and vagueness. Conan Doyle makes sure to leave the reader with as little information as possible and to make it hard to foresee what will happen next. This is all to have them anticipate the ending and the solving of the mystery, to keep them gripped. Even the very title of the novel is unclear and does well to conjure up ideas inside the readers mind. The meeting of Helen Stoner is very important. She is described as having veiled and fully black attire. This suggests that she is in mourning. She is also described as having frightened eyes, like those of a hunted animal, and being very agitated and trembling. Conan Doyle regularly uses this technique of showing the reader the symptom before a cause is established. It is much more shocking. This is all to construct the readers sympathy for Helen Stoner, but also instigate fear in whatever it is she fears. Conan Doyle also uses this meeting as a means to show the reader the significance of apparently minor and trivial clues in the story that unfolds. Sherlock Holmes deduces Helen s mode of travel by observing that she has the second half of a train ticket in the palm of her hand. This allows him to safely assume that Helen has travelled to him by train that morning. This technique warns the reader to be on lookout for what may seem like trivial details if they want to try to solve the mystery. It also allows Conan to throw in some red herrings in order to divert the reader and throw them off the trail. Helen Stoner goes on to describe her family and her circumstances, in particularly her Stepfather. Her description of him suggests to the reader that he is monstrous, brutal and feared by everyone. In a fit of anger, however, caused by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the author s shifted focus to psychologically driven concepts, such as mental and thought patterns, the strategies shifted from creating a positive environment to overcoming obstacles. One of the first steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an imagined experience . Envisioning success bolsters a person s morale and provides a renewed vigor with which to attack the obstacle. Although the text focused on self leadership, the authors did discuss how self leadership is directly tied into the success of teams. The same strategies, which improve self leadership in oneself, can be extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal setting, strong team beliefs and team mental imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team, there must be a balance of me and we , meaning that while individualistic goals must be set and followed, they must coincide with team goals and neither should outweigh the other. The importance of fitness to self image and self leadership was the penultimate strategy discussed in the text. Studies illustrated the benefits of fitness resulting in improved job performance and professional satisfaction. Lastly, the text discussed the importance of life factors such as happiness, emotional satisfaction, and social responsibility to self leadership. Different personality types approach ...
