The Pros And Cons Of African American Vernacular English
African American vernacular English has been frowned upon since its very beginning due to the
oppressors thinking of it as improper. June Jordan thought the very same thing when she spoke up
about it in Nobody Mean More to Me Than You and stated ...white standards of English persis,
supreme and unquestioned, in these United States. Despite our multilingual population, and despite
the deepening Black white cleavage within that conglomerate, white standards control our official and
popular judgements of verbal proficiency and correct, or incorrect, language skills, including speech.
That being said, standard English is found to be more appropriate to write a formal letter or article of
great importance, than vernacular English because it will reach out to a greater audience and will be
interpreted much better. There are pros and cons when it comes to whether or not one should speak in
either vernacular or standard English with one of those being the location and environment are two
major considerations. Sadly, that is what it has all come down to and it is noted by June Jordan ...as an
endangered species... meaning it is rather difficult to find people that speak vernacular English,
nowadays, without conforming themselves to the oppressor s ways. Her statement is agreeable in the
sense that slaves were brought to the United States not knowing the language and were forced to learn,
what they called, the oppressor s language. They might have been stripped of their

Essay on Womens Roles in Society
Women s roles have changed so much within the last couple of centuries. In the older years, women
were the sole responsibility of taking care of the children, doing housework, and pretty much taking
care of their husbands. The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, A Doll s House, Henrik Ibsen, and The
Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman are all literature pieces talking about the roles women have in
society. In The story of an Hour, the main character is not happy in her marriage, and she finds out that
her husband got killed, and she felt very free. In A Doll s House, the main character is not happy with
her marriage, because she feels that she is being treated like a childish, playful doll, and does not get

s death. After her sister told her about her husband getting killed in a railroad accident, Mrs. Mallard
ran off into her room, with no one following her. She sat in a chair staring outside through the open
window. She started seeing everything outside come to life, and all of a sudden she felt something
come across her. She told herself that she was free. She was happy to be able to live on her own and
only be responsible for herself. Josephine was outside her door telling Mrs. Mallard to come out,
because Josephine thought she was making herself ill. Mrs. Mallard came out of the room with her
arms opened wide and put her hands around her sister s waist. They both started going to the stairs,
and Richards was waiting for them at the bottom. All of a sudden, someone was opening the door, and
their stood Brently Mallard, who did not even know about the accident or there had even been one.
Mrs. Mallard saw her husband, and the doctors said she died of a heart disease (cited in DiYanni,
2007).
The conflict in the story is that Mrs. Mallard is way too happy about her husband dying. After going
into the room and closing the door, she started looking outside and could see the tops of trees that
were all aquiver with the new spring life (DiYanni 2007, p. 39). She is finally seeing the life to things

Osmium Research Paper
How can one human mind organize and memorize over 100 elements? In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev, a
Russian chemist and inventor, was credited with creating and publishing the Periodic table. The
Periodic table is an arrangement of the chemical elements discovered on earth. These elements are
organized by their atomic number and similarities between chemical properties. The Periodic table
holds 118 elements which can be broken down into smaller classifications, groups (vertical), periods
(horizontal) and blocks (adjacent). In this paper, we will zoom in one unbelievable element Osmium,
which is usually lost in the mix.
Osmium was discovered in 1803 by Smithson Tennant. This element was found when Tennant used
platinum to dilute aqua regia. He noticed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, osmium can irritate the respiratory system, the skin, and the eyes. Osmium is rarely used
in its pure form, meaning that it can be highly toxic. Effects of inhaling this element include, burning

As a result of contact with the skin, you are at risk of redness, skin burns, skin discoloration and
blisters. Unfortunately, exposure to high concentrations may result in damage to kidneys or even
death. Though this chemical is able to do harm, it can be and has been used in a beneficial way. For
example, Osmium has also played a key role in various aspects of the development of lightbulb
technology.Alloys of osmium and platinum are used to make specialized laboratory equipment. Alloys
can be made by melting or mixing two or more metals. Lastly, it can be used as a catalyst, a substance
used to speed up or slow down a chemical reaction.
In summarization, osmium ,Os, is a chemical element based on the periodic table. This element was
discovered in the mixture of a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acids. It has a atomic number of 76
and an atomic mass of 190.23. This is the most rarest of 118 chemical elements. Though this element

The Red Scare In America During The 1920 s
The 1920s was a huge time period for the United States. Modern technology such as automobiles,
radios, and advertisement had taken America by storm. Rural areas were on the decline. American
cities had attracted not only rural and urban citizens, but also people from all over the world. In
America during the 1920s, citizens struggled with accepting other races and ethnicities into their
widely populated country.
At the beginning of the century, Americans were disappointed with the outcome of the European war.
This resulted them to go against all things foreign, which included racial political ideas and
immigrants. The country had to face many decisions made by communists, which created the Red
Scare. The Red Scare was a spread of the fear of communism. One of the most important cases
involving the Red Scare was the Sacco and Vanzetti case. Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, who
were Italian, atheists, conscientious objectors, and radicals, were both accused of the murder of a
paymaster and his guard at South Braintree, Massachusetts. They were both holding revolvers and told
lies to the judge and court, but the flaws in evidence proved they were not guilty. Many critics
believed that the accused had been found guilty of radicalism rather than murder that they were
martyrs in the class struggle (Race and Ethnicity Packet). Their conviction illustrated the unfairness of
the trial based on the beliefs and race. The American jury and judge for the trial was

completely composed of pastors. It was expected that he would follow in his father s footsteps, but
Jung had no interest in becoming a pastor, and began to study medicine at the University of Basel
from 1895 1900. When he was around twelve Jung developed an interest in the human psyche, but
never pursued it in a formal class because psychology was looked down upon in his time. He
continued to study humans on the side, but only seriously began to take part in it when Freud became
well known for his theories regarding the human psyche.

Race and Affirmative Action Essay
Race and Affirmative Action
Race is an issue that is embedded in the nation s history and continues to spur discussions on how the
different minorities and ethnic groups must be treated fairly. Affirmative action is a recent attempt to
solve the discriminations produced by racial inequality. However, affirmative action is also being
scrutinized as scholars and the public debate the benefits and harms of affirmative action. A Historical
View
Throughout the past 30 years, affirmative action has been the answer to racial inequality. The policy
began in 1965 under President Johnson. It was used to redress issues of discrimination, following the
civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by the late 1970s flaws surfaced in the affirmative action policy. Reverse discrimination
became an issue, epitomized by the Bakke case of 1978. A medical school that had accepted less
qualified minority applicants had rejected Allan Bakke, a white male, two consecutive years. The
school had a separate admissions policy for minorities. It reserved 16 out of 100 places for minority
students. The Supreme Court voted that it was unconstitutional to set inflexible quota systems in
affirmative action programs. The medical school had discriminated against a white applicant. In the
same ruling, however, the Court upheld the legality of affirmative action in forms other than quota
systems. In 1979 the Supreme Court reflected the Bakke decision. The Supreme Court ruled in AFO
CIO v. Weber, 444 U.S. 889 that race conscious affirmative action efforts designed to eliminate a
conspicuous racial imbalance in an employer s workforce resulting from past discrimination was
permissible, as long as the actions were temporary and did not violate the rights of white employees.
College admission imbalances have resurfaced as a problem for affirmative action. Recently, the
Smith v. University of Washington case upheld the university s affirmative action program, although
the program could no longer be used after the passage of Initiative 200 in 1998. Initiative 200 is a

Number Of Basketball Players In Research
Division of Basketball Players
Children develop bad habits at a young age and continue these bad habits until they are corrected.
Sometimes these things aren t corrected until its almost too late. Habits can be picked up from parents,
grandparents, coaches, and peers. I know that the longer I am around someone the more I act like that
person. In any sport you will have many coaches and you will learn something you didn t know with
every coach you have. But some things aren t developed from others, some players are born with these
characters and help them become the type of player they are.
1. The Dramatic Player: The dramatic player overreacts about everything to draw attention to their self
so they can be the center of attention. For example, on my basketball team Susie is constantly getting
hurt. One day at practice she gently fell to the ground and instantly started acting like she had fallen
from a 10 story building. As a teammate of Susie I have learned that it is easier to give her the
attention as soon as she starts acting out. Another type of player is one that makes everything said to
them a big deal. Some players on the team cannot take criticism, or being told what to do. Susie is this
type of player also, and will turn a simple please look for me on the block to throw me the darn ball

The Excuse maker: The excuse maker constantly has a rhyme or reason to why they did not do
something or to why they did do something. For example, Lilly on my basketball team will blame her
man scoring on someone else when clearly they scored because she wasn t playing any defense. The
most common excuse used in basketball is that wasn t my man when in reality nine times out of ten it
is the excuse makers man. These types of players would rather the team suffer than put forth the effort
to do what is asked of them. Like people say one bad apple will ruin the whole bunch , I wouldn t say
the excuse maker ruins the whole team but they do make it hard to

The Thematic Elements Of William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Nobility or shame
The thematic elements found throughout many of William Shakespeare s plays are numerous. Such
themes further develop the plot of the story and help explain a universal purpose the story has.
Imagination seeps through every crevice in the reader s mind as to what a theme can be alluding to.
Throughout many of Shakespeare s written works, it can be noted that death, in particular suicide, is a
relevant and ongoing theme that Shakespeare gives way to. A prime example is that of the well known
tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare does not stop at the tragedy of the star crossed lovers, but
further goes on to write several more tragedies that deal with suicide such as: Macbeth, Julius Caesar,
Othello, and Hamlet. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the rise of the Renaissance era, the motto death before dishonor was implanted in many courtly
ideals. Many chose to die than to have dishonor upon their name. It would be a burden that they would
live with for the rest of their lives if their name was put to shame. Suicide was given the bad shoulder
during this time, but many writers shined a light on it that further enhanced a work of literature.
Shakespeare was one of the many writers that shined a light within the theme of suicide. Suicide in his
works further enhanced the development of the story. This is because suicide is a recurring theme that
gives way to understand the cultural impact that comes with being a mortal. Shakespeare opens the
window to this developing theme that is shunned upon by society. In order to understand why suicide
is a key theme that further develops a story, one has to understand the social repercussions that suicide
holds during that time. In Shakespeare s Hamlet it can be noted that even though Hamlet did not go
through with contemplated suicide, he still thought about whether he should go through the difficulties
of life and keep on suffering. For instance, Shakespeare writes and by opposing end them (page.127,
line 68). By opposing the Christian moral views, he knows and values, Hamlet knows that suicide will
end all his troubles and he will be at peace. Hamlet decides not to partake in such action. This further

Week 5 Reflection Essays
Week Five Reflection ACC/421 Week Five Reflection The concept of time value of money is
accounting is the relationship between time and money (Kieso, Wygandt, amp; Warfield, 2007). The
common expression is that money today is worth more than the assurance of money received
tomorrow. The reason for this saying is the investment opportunities and borrowing options.
Understanding how to compare present and future values of money and learning how to use the
different time values of money is important in accounting and the different users of accounting.
Importance of Time Values of Money There is a big importance when it concerns the time values of
money because the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A company can use the present value concept to determine the value of a property today that is
expected to earn the minimum of the projected future cash flow or the amount of money that needs to
be invested today to reach a desired future sum. Investors who are interested in acquiring businesses
would use the present value of money concept. Probably the main example of how the present value
of money is applied in accounting is: a company wants to accumulate $100,000 in five years and they
know there is an 8% interest that is compounded annually. A company would take that information
and the present value of money concept to determine the amount of money they need to invest today.
Applications of Future Values of Money Computing the future value of money allows accountants to
calculate compound interest. The future value of money is used to determine the rate of return at a
specific time at a particular interest rate. Companies use it to make financial decisions involving
money held for deposit, comparing interest applied to loans or receivables, or investments.
Accountants can calculate future values using a single sum today or with periodic payment. Examples
of periodic payments include rents or any payment that requires constant payments generally of the
same amount. Accountants can also use future value to determine the amount of money, interest, and
periodic payments required

Abstract This paper is on the Swiss astronomer, physicist, engineer and mathematician Leonhard
Euler. Euler made fundamental contributions to the world of mathematics and science. His
mathematical studies range from analytic geometry, infinitesimal calculus, graph theory and topology.
He introduced many of the notations one uses in today s modern mathematics. This paper will focus
on Leonhard Euler s life and some of his scientific and mathematical works.

Two of his most famous works are Introductio in analysin infinitorum, a text on functions, and
Institutiones calculi differentialis on differential calculus [3].
In 1766, Euler returned to Russia and after an illness, he became entirely blind. Euler had a
remarkable memory that he was able to continue with his work on optics, algebra, and lunar motion
[5]. By the age of 59, Euler had produced half of his total work despite being blind. Leonhard Euler
suffered a brain hemorrhage and died at the age of 76, on September 18, 1783. Fifty years after Euler s
death his work was still being published by the St. Petersburg Academy.
Number Theory
Euler became interested in Number Theory thanks to his friend Christian Goldbach in the St.
Petersburg Academy. Euler s work in number theory included topics such as the study of perfect
numbers, the quadratic reciprocity law, the so called Pell equation, and Fermat s Last Theorem, to
name just a few [1].
In 1735, Euler proved that the sum of the reciprocals of the primes diverges. This problem was known
as the Basel problem and Euler s colleagues, the Bernoulli s, had attempted the problem but failed to
solve it. He also showed that the infinite series was equivalent to an infinite product of prime numbers,
an identity that would later inspire Riemann s investigation of complex Zeta functions [4].
In the upcoming years, Euler developed Euler s Theorem also known as Fermat Euler Theorem based

A Study of Learning Strategies in L2 Acquisition
【Abstract】With the concept of autonomy being part of the mainstream of research and practice
within the field of language education, the study of learning strategies in L2 acquisition has drawn
much attention. This paper discusses the issues covering the fundamental aspect: identification and
classification of learning strategy. The problems are reviewed concerning the definition and
classification of learning strategies and then the paper tentatively introduces Cohen s approach to
defining learning strategies in terms of prototypicality of features of learning strategies.

Cohen (1998) : Learning strategies are learning processes which are consciously selected by the
learner. The words consciously select are important because they demonstrate the special character of
strategy.
Wenden(1998): Learning strategies are mental steps or operations that learners use to learn a new
language and to regulate their efforts to do so.( as cited in Ellis, 1994, p. 531)
The above definitions show that no researchers define language learning strategies in exactly the same
way. All these definitions provide insights into understanding the process of learning a language. How
to define learning strategies is crucial in underpinning the framework of researchers study. Definition
is fundamental to laying the foundation for the areas of research. However, these definitions of
language learning strategies reveals some problems. Learning strategies is such a broad word that it
can refer to the general approaches or specific techniques used to learn a language. Maybe it is the
main reason why the definitions are atheoretical. There are other two problems: Are learning strategies
to be perceived of as behavioural or mental? Are learning strategies conscious and intentional or
subconscious?

Descriptive Essay On Guitar Music
For my favorite instrument, I chose the guitar. Many people across the globe are familiar with the
sounds of the guitar. This chordophone, with such a diverse sound, has been showcased in our favorite
songs and bands for decades. As familiar as we are with the sound, how familiar are we the history,
manufacturers, artists, composers, and its popularity in a traditional orchestra? First, I will discuss the
history of the guitar; when it started, the miraculous evolution, and the manufacturers that took the
industry by storm. Although there are many theories, the history is hazy as to exactly where the first
known guitar came from prior to the 16th century. According to the book A Concise History of the
Classic Guitar by Wade Graham, Hittite stone carvings in Turkey; dated 1300 BC, eludes to the
possibility of a similar instrument, as well as mentions in the old testament of long necked lutes in
Mesopotamia. In Greek mythology; Fourth Homeric Hymn, mentions the use of a stringed instrument
made of cow gut and turtle carcass. History becomes a lot clearer around the 16th century, when
printed literature became available. According to acousticmusic the Baroque period is when the guitar
really began to gain popularity, and was commonly used to accompany vocalists. Guitar music began
to grow and evolve; the Classical period lasting from 1730 1820, and the Romantic period of 1815
1910 gained more popularity and diversity and was soon known worldwide. Other

Existentialism In In The Waiting Room And The Daydreams Of...
In both Elizabeth Bishop s In the Waiting Room and Clarice Lispector s The Daydreams of a Drunk
Woman , we are exposed to speakers who, through an epiphany of their role in existence, discover a
sense of self. With the geographic difference between Bishop and Lispector, and yet such similar
themes, it could be contended that their writings are evidence that both existentialism and exploration
of the image of one s self are major themes in twentieth century literary writing and thought.
Existentialism, a philosophical ideology conceptualized by Jean Paul Sarte, encapsulates most thought
processes where the individual is obliged to make a choice as though he were choosing for all
mankind (Arnold, Jean Paul Sarte: Overview). Put simply, Sarte s concept of existentialism is the
thought process by which humans find themselves existing, and the analysis of their existence itself
(Tulloch, Sartrian Existentialism). This analysis of existence found itself in many writings during the
twentieth century, and acts a driving force in both Bishop s In the Waiting Room and Lispector s The
Daydreams of a Drunk Woman . Elizabeth Bishop is a poet native to Worcester. Her mother was
widowed when Elizabeth was merely eight months old, and as a result, slowly fell into a string of
mental issues that would cause her to be institutionalized until the end of her life. This resulted in
Elizabeth moving in with her grandparents in Nova Scotia at the age of eight before briefly moving

Wimax vs. Long Term Evolution
Wimax vs. LTE:
LTE and Wimax are 4G technologies. LTE is Long Term Evolution project which is been proposed by
3GPP (3rd generation partnership project) which is nothing but collaboration between various
telecommunication companies. So LTE has its background from the GSM technology. Wimax is IEEE
802.16 standard and it s mainly roots in CDMA.
Frequency of operation: LTE operates at lower frequency as compared to wimax. Higher the
frequency of operation, higher the attenuation.
Both wimax and LTE uses OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). OFDM uses
orthogonal frequencies as carrier frequencies so that there will be no interference between the signals
i.e. it uses the principle of orthogonality. This in turn improves the spectral efficiency.
Multiple Access: Both LTE and wimax uses MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), which a Space

different streams to the receiver. The receiver choses the best of the transmitted signal streams and
decodes the signal. It is chosen such a way that, the best quality signal is obtained. So, even the
weaker signals are boosted up by this technique.
Infrastructure: Both LTE and wimax uses ip infrastructure. The flat structure of ip helps the mobile as
well as the base station.
Latency: Latency is less in LTE when compared to wimax.
Range: Theoretically LTE has better rang than wimax.
Speed: speed of LTE is way higher than

The diagnosis of Sedentary lifestyle includes three defining characteristics: (a) chooses a daily routine
lacking physical exercise, (b) demonstrates physical de conditioning, and (c) verbalizes preference for
activities low in physical activity (Guedes). These characteristics prevail in society today because
individuals view movement as a depletive rather than a constructive resource. Although many realize
physical activity is important, they still do not partake, for it is easier to sit and relax than it is to get
up and move. However, living a sedentary lifestyle results in lowered motivation, according to

Just like bullies the Bander log do anything they want just for the fun of it or for whatever agenda the

wounded tiger, or bear they would torment him. (Kipling, 32) As well as you know bullies pick on
anyone who is weaker than him/herself same as the bander log are doing. Another example is that
Kipling says, That the bander log would throw sticks and nuts at any beast to get attention or just for
the fun of it . (Kipling, 32) Another example is that in when the Bander log are trying to learn how to
weave sticks together the Bander log get bored and start pulling each other s tail or jumping up and

Vita Nova Trinity Number 19 Analysis
The Vita Nova has many symbolic themes throughout its structure such as the words vita and nova
themselves. In both Italian and English, vita refers to life and nova in Italian refers to marvelous or
strange, however in English, it refers to brightness (of light). Another symbol in the poem is the
Trinity number nine as Dante refers to it every time he has an encounter with Beatrice. In this essay,
because Vita Nova has 42 chapters, I will discuss how Beatrice represents (and/or mirrors) light
throughout chapters 2 8 (with the definition of Trinity mentioned in chapter 29), through Dante s
actual sight and uncontrollable dreams. Dante s muse represents light in chapter two because she can
see all throughout his body as, during his first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Trinity number nine is also found in this chapter, as it was precisely the ninth hour of that day,
three o clock in the afternoon (III, 2). Although this is the chapter when Beatrice finally gives Dante
her salutation, the chapter s focus is in his dream. In the dream, Dante sees a powerful figure holding
his muse in one hand and forcing her to eat a burning object in another (III, 6). As the human like
figure came out from a cloud the color of fire (III, 3), it said, ego dominus tuus...vide cor tuum (III, 3;
5) to Dante, the pilgrim, which translates into, I m your lord...look into your heart. In other words, the
figure represents light itself (as God) since he claimed to be the lord and because he came from a
cloud the color of fire (III, 3). Beatrice represents light because the figure forcibly fed her the burning
object, Dante s heart, thus, giving her the ability to see through Dante s most secret chamber as
mentioned in chapter two. Although one can argue that since this human like figure uses force against
Beatrice and comes in the form of a fiery cloud, this figure can be mistaken as a Demon; however,
because both the figure and Beatrice ascent toward the heavens (III, 7), it supports my argument that
the figure is actually light

Sleep Figurative Language
The definition for rest is to stop being active for a period of time in order to relax and get back your
strength, or to cause someone or something to stop doing an activity in order to get back strength
(Cambridge). The definition for sleep is resting state in which the body is not active and the mind is
unconscious (Cambridge). Words have more than one meaning; in many poems rest may mean rest in
peace which means death. Another example of death is in the word sleep. In some areas in the bible,
sleep represents death. Words can be interpreted different forms using figurative language, imagery,
and symbolism. Figurative language is not meant to be interpreted literally, but is used to intensify the
work and please the readers imaginations. In line one in the poem it states, Where sunless rivers weep
, the sunless rivers means the darkness or night time. Christina Rossetti was a religious person who
used her faith in her writing. An example of this is Led by a single star (5), the star could represent the
star on top of the manger, leading people to the birth of Jesus. There are also similes, metaphors, and
repetition in the poem Dreamland . Through sleep, as through a veil/ She sees the sky look pale (13
14). In this stanza there is a simile word sleep , which represented a veil that covers the eyes but still

For example, Ms. Rossetti talks about a star, Led by a single star (5), and it could symbolize
Guideness and hope. A star guided the three kings through Egypt to the manger where Jesus Christ
was born. Likewise in line one, Where sunless rivers weep (1), might symbolize mourning or death
had occurred. This line is practically saying river of tears which could mean a recent death going on.
Then The purple land (20), symbolizes new life or a new beginning, Till joy shall overtake/ Her
perfect peace (32 33). Ms. Rossetti used the bible s influence in her

DBQ Essay On New Year s Resolutions
As you say goodbye to one year and hello to another, people all around the world welcome one more
thing, New Year s resolutions. New Year s has been a source of celebration for almost 4,000 years.
While it now falls on the first of January, it was initially celebrated on the first new moon following
the vernal equinox by the Babylonians. A huge festival known as Akitu was then celebrated to mark
the new year along with celebrating the mythical victory of the sky god Marduk (Source D). The
celebrations and meanings of the celebrations have changed over these years, but some traditions do
remain. The Ancient Babylonians made these promises to earn favors with the gods and to the start the
year out well (Source D). Today, people no longer make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research done by psychologist John Norcross found that only forty percent of the people who made
New Year s resolutions kept them after six months (Source A). In his research, he seems to say that
this is the reason resolutions are pointless. If you take a more optimistic look at these numbers, that is
a large number of people who are actually making a positive change to their lives. He shows that after
two years the numbers are even lower with only nineteen percent following their resolutions
(Document A) Again, the eighty one percent failures are disappointing, but the nineteen percent of
success may be life changing for people. Even a small resolution, like having a protein shake once a
week, can make someone happier and feel a real sense of accomplishment. New Year s resolutions,
when they are achieved or at least attempted, give people a goal and a chance to make an important
change. This encourages people to feel hopeful about a goal, whether it is losing weight, eating better,
or improving grades. Again, people will point out the disappointment that people may feel if they fail
to follow through with their resolution. Although that may occur, the happiness that will result from
achieving a goal will be very

Case Study On Periodontitis
Periodontal disease is very common, and is widely regarded as the second most common dental
disease worldwide after dental caries. Periodontitis is initiated by gram negative tooth associated
microbial biofilm that elicit a host response which result in bone and soft tissue destruction. The chief
treatment modality for periodontal health is scaling and root planing either during surgical
intervention or in a non surgical approach with the endpoint of bringing a root surface that is
biologically acceptable for healing processes. [1] These mechanical procedures are accomplished by
using sonic ultrasonic, manual and rotary instruments with the intention of removing subgingival
biofilm, calculus endotoxins from the root surface and also to accomplish a maintainable ... Show

with an explorer. The teeth samples were sectioned longitudinally to obtain the proximal instrumented
surfaces using a diamond disc mounted on a slow speed handpiece with water coolant. The crowns
were then resected at cement enamel junction with help of diamond disc. Specimens were obtained
from the cervical 2/3rd to middle 1/3rd of root.Preparation of root specimens for SEM study
Following the mechanical treatment, all specimens were dehydrated in graded series of isopropyl
alcohol (50%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100% as the final step). The specimens were kept for half an hour
in all graded series of isopropyl alcohol and for 1 hour in 100% isopropyl alcohol. The specimens
were dried for half an hour and then mounted on the aluminium stub with an adhesive tape. Further
procedure for specimens sputter coating and examination under SEM was carried out at Forensic
Science Laboratory, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Standardized photomicrographs of the selected sites were
obtained at magnification of ×100 and ×500 for each

Igor Gouzenko s Involvement In The Cold War
After the Second World War ended, when Canada and her Allies were still celebrating victory over
Germany, a young Russian cipher clerk named Igor Gouzenko walked out of the Soviet Embassy in
Ottawa with secret papers stuffed under his shirt and headed straight for the offices of a city
newspaper. His unprecedented action would awaken the people of North America to the magnitude
and the danger of Soviet espionage and change the course of the twentieth century. Gouzenko was the
beginning of the Cold War for public opinion and he did play a role in Canada s involvement in the
war, however, Canada became directly involved in the Cold War due to communist fears, nuclear
choices, and ties to a superpower.

The Second World War had pushed Canada into a bilateral defense alliance with the Americans, a
position that left Canada trying to deal all by itself with a partner fifteen times its weight. The war had
also demonstrated that Canadian interests and concerns of nuclear weapons. Starting from 1963, US
nuclear warheads armed Canadian weapons systems in both Canada and West Germany. It is likely
that during the early part of this period, the Canadian military was putting more effort, money, and
manpower into the nuclear commitment than any other single activity. During World War Two,
Canada already provided raw material, including uranium one from a northern mine which may have
been used in the construction of the atom bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 and in order
to be influential, Canada had to contribute to continental or European defence in a meaningful way,
and many allies believed this could be done only with nuclear weapons . Of note, Canada had
identified alliance warfare as the only viable option for

King Creon Quotes On Pride
Saint Augustine once said, It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men
as angels (Saint Augustine). In the human brain, one s pride can quickly switch to arrogance. It was
King Creon s own pride, in Antigone, that lead to his downfall. Thinking he was superior to those
surrounding him, he ignored advice and criticism. He never let himself feel that humility and was
blinded of the fact that he was nothing but correct. It was the citizens under his ruling that were
thinking incorrectly. Antigone begins once King Creon takes power of the kingdom of Thebes,
replacing Polyneices and Eteocles. He stretches his rights as ruler by declaring Polyneices a traitor and
denies him the right to a proper funeral. Out of rebellion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Creon frequently made decisions out of arrogance and pride, such as deciding to not bury Polyneices
because it was what he thought was right. Never did he ask or listen to other s advice or critism
because he thought because he has a high status, that other s opinions were irrelevant. By not thinking
through his choices, he ultimately caused the death of everyone he loved and lost the respect of the
city he cared so much for. When making decisions, one must fully think through if the sacrifice is one
they are willing to take. This lesson repeats itself through every human s life. As a child learning to
not eat too much or they will be sick, teenagers face many temptations, leading to addiction and
reckless accidents, adults learn that if they do not work to their maximum potential, the bills will not
be paid. Thinking of the future should motivate others to make the best decision for themselves and
everyone else around them. By not thinking about the consequences, one could have everything
stripped from them in a blink of an eye, like Creon in the tragedy,

doctoral study proposals. Qualitative researchers focus on subjective experiences of human beings in a
social environment, based on individual perspectives (Liamputtong, 2010). Qualitative research deals
with interpretive data from natural settings and individual perceptions and experiences (Erlingsson
Brysiewicz, 2013). Researchers should be aware of the different experiences of the participants in the
study (Erlingsson Brysiewicz, 2013). A qualitative method allows a researcher to assess the qualities
of participants lived experiences in an inductive process that relates to theory development
(Peredaryenko Krauss, 2013). A qualitative method is appropriate for this study because it will help
me to become knowledgeable about the experiences, processes, and events of consultants and
executives in small retail storefront travel agencies (Bluhm, Harman, Lee, Mitchell, 2011). According
to Bettiol et al. (2012), a qualitative method is useful for exploring marketing in businesses and
understanding business activities in companies. A qualitative method is beneficial in determining how
small businesses market products and services (O Donnell et al., 2011). Quantitative research methods

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of African American Vernacular English African American vernacular English has been frowned upon since its very beginning due to the oppressors thinking of it as improper. June Jordan thought the very same thing when she spoke up about it in Nobody Mean More to Me Than You and stated ...white standards of English persis, supreme and unquestioned, in these United States. Despite our multilingual population, and despite the deepening Black white cleavage within that conglomerate, white standards control our official and popular judgements of verbal proficiency and correct, or incorrect, language skills, including speech. That being said, standard English is found to be more appropriate to write a formal letter or article of great importance, than vernacular English because it will reach out to a greater audience and will be interpreted much better. There are pros and cons when it comes to whether or not one should speak in either vernacular or standard English with one of those being the location and environment are two major considerations. Sadly, that is what it has all come down to and it is noted by June Jordan ...as an endangered species... meaning it is rather difficult to find people that speak vernacular English, nowadays, without conforming themselves to the oppressor s ways. Her statement is agreeable in the sense that slaves were brought to the United States not knowing the language and were forced to learn, what they called, the oppressor s language. They might have been stripped of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Womens Roles in Society Women s roles have changed so much within the last couple of centuries. In the older years, women were the sole responsibility of taking care of the children, doing housework, and pretty much taking care of their husbands. The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, A Doll s House, Henrik Ibsen, and The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman are all literature pieces talking about the roles women have in society. In The story of an Hour, the main character is not happy in her marriage, and she finds out that her husband got killed, and she felt very free. In A Doll s House, the main character is not happy with her marriage, because she feels that she is being treated like a childish, playful doll, and does not get any respect from her ... After her sister told her about her husband getting killed in a railroad accident, Mrs. Mallard ran off into her room, with no one following her. She sat in a chair staring outside through the open window. She started seeing everything outside come to life, and all of a sudden she felt something come across her. She told herself that she was free. She was happy to be able to live on her own and only be responsible for herself. Josephine was outside her door telling Mrs. Mallard to come out, because Josephine thought she was making herself ill. Mrs. Mallard came out of the room with her arms opened wide and put her hands around her sister s waist. They both started going to the stairs, and Richards was waiting for them at the bottom. All of a sudden, someone was opening the door, and their stood Brently Mallard, who did not even know about the accident or there had even been one. Mrs. Mallard saw her husband, and the doctors said she died of a heart disease (cited in DiYanni, 2007). The conflict in the story is that Mrs. Mallard is way too happy about her husband dying. After going into the room and closing the door, she started looking outside and could see the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life (DiYanni 2007, p. 39). • 5. Osmium Research Paper How can one human mind organize and memorize over 100 elements? In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev, a Russian chemist and inventor, was credited with creating and publishing the Periodic table. The Periodic table is an arrangement of the chemical elements discovered on earth. These elements are organized by their atomic number and similarities between chemical properties. • 6. The Red Scare In America During The 1920 s The 1920s was a huge time period for the United States. Modern technology such as automobiles, radios, and advertisement had taken America by storm. Rural areas were on the decline. American cities had attracted not only rural and urban citizens, but also people from all over the world. In America during the 1920s, citizens struggled with accepting other races and ethnicities into their widely populated country. At the beginning of the century, Americans were disappointed with the outcome of the European war. This resulted them to go against all things foreign, which included racial political ideas and immigrants. The country had to face many decisions made by communists, which created the Red Scare. The Red Scare was a spread of the fear of communism. One of the most important cases involving the Red Scare was the Sacco and Vanzetti case. Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, who were Italian, atheists, conscientious objectors, and radicals, were both accused of the murder of a paymaster and his guard at South Braintree, Massachusetts. They were both holding revolvers and told lies to the judge and court, but the flaws in evidence proved they were not guilty. Many critics believed that the accused had been found guilty of radicalism rather than murder that they were martyrs in the class struggle (Race and Ethnicity Packet). Their conviction illustrated the unfairness of the trial based on the beliefs and race. The American jury and judge for the trial was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When he was around twelve Jung developed an interest in the human psyche, but never pursued it in a formal class because psychology was looked down upon in his time. Race and Affirmative Action Essay Race and Affirmative Action Race is an issue that is embedded in the nation s history and continues to spur discussions on how the different minorities and ethnic groups must be treated fairly. Affirmative action is a recent attempt to solve the discriminations produced by racial inequality. However, affirmative action is also being scrutinized as scholars and the public debate the benefits and harms of affirmative action. However, by the late 1970s flaws surfaced in the affirmative action policy. Reverse discrimination became an issue, epitomized by the Bakke case of 1978. A medical school that had accepted less qualified minority applicants had rejected Allan Bakke, a white male, two consecutive years. The school had a separate admissions policy for minorities. It reserved 16 out of 100 places for minority students. The Supreme Court voted that it was unconstitutional to set inflexible quota systems in affirmative action programs. The medical school had discriminated against a white applicant. In the same ruling, however, the Court upheld the legality of affirmative action in forms other than quota systems. In 1979 the Supreme Court reflected the Bakke decision. The Supreme Court ruled in AFO CIO v. Weber, 444 U.S. 889 that race conscious affirmative action efforts designed to eliminate a conspicuous racial imbalance in an employer s workforce resulting from past discrimination was permissible, as long as the actions were temporary and did not violate the rights of white employees. College admission imbalances have resurfaced as a problem for affirmative action. Recently, the Smith v. University of Washington case upheld the university s affirmative action program, although the program could no longer be used after the passage of Initiative 200 in 1998. Sometimes these things aren t corrected until its almost too late. Habits can be picked up from parents, grandparents, coaches, and peers. I know that the longer I am around someone the more I act like that person. In any sport you will have many coaches and you will learn something you didn t know with every coach you have. But some things aren t developed from others, some players are born with these characters and help them become the type of player they are. 1. The Dramatic Player: The dramatic player overreacts about everything to draw attention to their self so they can be the center of attention. For example, on my basketball team Susie is constantly getting hurt. One day at practice she gently fell to the ground and instantly started acting like she had fallen from a 10 story building. As a teammate of Susie I have learned that it is easier to give her the attention as soon as she starts acting out. Another type of player is one that makes everything said to them a big deal. Some players on the team cannot take criticism, or being told what to do. Susie is this type of player also, and will turn a simple please look for me on the block to throw me the darn ball next ... The most common excuse used in basketball is that wasn t my man when in reality nine times out of ten it is the excuse makers man. • 11. The Thematic Elements Of William Shakespeare s Hamlet Nobility or shame The thematic elements found throughout many of William Shakespeare s plays are numerous. Such themes further develop the plot of the story and help explain a universal purpose the story has. Imagination seeps through every crevice in the reader s mind as to what a theme can be alluding to. Throughout many of Shakespeare s written works, it can be noted that death, in particular suicide, is a relevant and ongoing theme that Shakespeare gives way to. A prime example is that of the well known tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare does not stop at the tragedy of the star crossed lovers, but further goes on to write several more tragedies that deal with suicide such as: Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, and Hamlet. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the rise of the Renaissance era, the motto death before dishonor was implanted in many courtly ideals. Many chose to die than to have dishonor upon their name. It would be a burden that they would live with for the rest of their lives if their name was put to shame. Suicide was given the bad shoulder during this time, but many writers shined a light on it that further enhanced a work of literature. Shakespeare was one of the many writers that shined a light within the theme of suicide. Suicide in his works further enhanced the development of the story. This is because suicide is a recurring theme that gives way to understand the cultural impact that comes with being a mortal. Shakespeare opens the window to this developing theme that is shunned upon by society. In order to understand why suicide is a key theme that further develops a story, one has to understand the social repercussions that suicide holds during that time. In Shakespeare s Hamlet it can be noted that even though Hamlet did not go through with contemplated suicide, he still thought about whether he should go through the difficulties of life and keep on suffering. For instance, Shakespeare writes and by opposing end them (page.127, line 68). By opposing the Christian moral views, he knows and values, Hamlet knows that suicide will end all his troubles and he will be at peace. Hamlet decides not to partake in such action. This further ... The common expression is that money today is worth more than the assurance of money received tomorrow. The reason for this saying is the investment opportunities and borrowing options. A company can use the present value concept to determine the value of a property today that is expected to earn the minimum of the projected future cash flow or the amount of money that needs to be invested today to reach a desired future sum. Investors who are interested in acquiring businesses would use the present value of money concept. Probably the main example of how the present value of money is applied in accounting is: a company wants to accumulate $100,000 in five years and they know there is an 8% interest that is compounded annually. A company would take that information and the present value of money concept to determine the amount of money they need to invest today. Applications of Future Values of Money Computing the future value of money allows accountants to calculate compound interest. The future value of money is used to determine the rate of return at a specific time at a particular interest rate. Companies use it to make financial decisions involving money held for deposit, comparing interest applied to loans or receivables, or investments. Two of his most famous works are Introductio in analysin infinitorum, a text on functions, and Institutiones calculi differentialis on differential calculus [3]. In 1766, Euler returned to Russia and after an illness, he became entirely blind. Euler had a remarkable memory that he was able to continue with his work on optics, algebra, and lunar motion [5]. By the age of 59, Euler had produced half of his total work despite being blind. Leonhard Euler suffered a brain hemorrhage and died at the age of 76, on September 18, 1783. Fifty years after Euler s death his work was still being published by the St. Petersburg Academy. Number Theory Euler became interested in Number Theory thanks to his friend Christian Goldbach in the St. Petersburg Academy. Euler s work in number theory included topics such as the study of perfect numbers, the quadratic reciprocity law, the so called Pell equation, and Fermat s Last Theorem, to name just a few [1]. In 1735, Euler proved that the sum of the reciprocals of the primes diverges. This problem was known as the Basel problem and Euler s colleagues, the Bernoulli s, had attempted the problem but failed to solve it. He also showed that the infinite series was equivalent to an infinite product of prime numbers, an identity that would later inspire Riemann s investigation of complex Zeta functions [4]. In the upcoming years, Euler developed Euler s Theorem also known as Fermat Euler Theorem based on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Language Learning Strategies Essay A Study of Learning Strategies in L2 Acquisition 【Abstract】With the concept of autonomy being part of the mainstream of research and practice within the field of language education, the study of learning strategies in L2 acquisition has drawn much attention. This paper discusses the issues covering the fundamental aspect: identification and classification of learning strategy. The problems are reviewed concerning the definition and classification of learning strategies and then the paper tentatively introduces Cohen s approach to defining learning strategies in terms of prototypicality of features of learning strategies. 【Key words】learning strategies; definition; classification Introduction Second language teaching in recent ... The words consciously select are important because they demonstrate the special character of strategy. All these definitions provide insights into understanding the process of learning a language. How to define learning strategies is crucial in underpinning the framework of researchers study. Definition is fundamental to laying the foundation for the areas of research. However, these definitions of language learning strategies reveals some problems. Learning strategies is such a broad word that it can refer to the general approaches or specific techniques used to learn a language. Maybe it is the main reason why the definitions are atheoretical. • 16. Descriptive Essay On Guitar Music For my favorite instrument, I chose the guitar. Many people across the globe are familiar with the sounds of the guitar. This chordophone, with such a diverse sound, has been showcased in our favorite songs and bands for decades. As familiar as we are with the sound, how familiar are we the history, manufacturers, artists, composers, and its popularity in a traditional orchestra? First, I will discuss the history of the guitar; when it started, the miraculous evolution, and the manufacturers that took the industry by storm. Although there are many theories, the history is hazy as to exactly where the first known guitar came from prior to the 16th century. According to the book A Concise History of the Classic Guitar by Wade Graham, Hittite stone carvings in Turkey; dated 1300 BC, eludes to the possibility of a similar instrument, as well as mentions in the old testament of long necked lutes in Mesopotamia. In Greek mythology; Fourth Homeric Hymn, mentions the use of a stringed instrument made of cow gut and turtle carcass. History becomes a lot clearer around the 16th century, when printed literature became available. According to acousticmusic the Baroque period is when the guitar really began to gain popularity, and was commonly used to accompany vocalists. Guitar music began to grow and evolve; the Classical period lasting from 1730 1820, and the Romantic period of 1815 1910 gained more popularity and diversity and was soon known worldwide. Other ... • 17. Existentialism In In The Waiting Room And The Daydreams Of... In both Elizabeth Bishop s In the Waiting Room and Clarice Lispector s The Daydreams of a Drunk Woman , we are exposed to speakers who, through an epiphany of their role in existence, discover a sense of self. With the geographic difference between Bishop and Lispector, and yet such similar themes, it could be contended that their writings are evidence that both existentialism and exploration of the image of one s self are major themes in twentieth century literary writing and thought. Existentialism, a philosophical ideology conceptualized by Jean Paul Sarte, encapsulates most thought processes where the individual is obliged to make a choice as though he were choosing for all mankind (Arnold, Jean Paul Sarte: Overview). Put simply, Sarte s concept of existentialism is the thought process by which humans find themselves existing, and the analysis of their existence itself (Tulloch, Sartrian Existentialism). This analysis of existence found itself in many writings during the twentieth century, and acts a driving force in both Bishop s In the Waiting Room and Lispector s The Daydreams of a Drunk Woman . Elizabeth Bishop is a poet native to Worcester. Her mother was widowed when Elizabeth was merely eight months old, and as a result, slowly fell into a string of mental issues that would cause her to be institutionalized until the end of her life. This resulted in Elizabeth moving in with her grandparents in Nova Scotia at the age of eight before briefly moving back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Wimax vs. Long Term Evolution Wimax vs. LTE: LTE and Wimax are 4G technologies. LTE is Long Term Evolution project which is been proposed by 3GPP (3rd generation partnership project) which is nothing but collaboration between various telecommunication companies. So LTE has its background from the GSM technology. Wimax is IEEE 802.16 standard and it s mainly roots in CDMA. Frequency of operation: LTE operates at lower frequency as compared to wimax. Higher the frequency of operation, higher the attenuation. Both wimax and LTE uses OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). OFDM uses orthogonal frequencies as carrier frequencies so that there will be no interference between the signals i.e. it uses the principle of orthogonality. This in turn improves the spectral efficiency. Multiple Access: Both LTE and wimax uses MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), which a Space Division Multiple Access technique. It is a smart technique in which the same signal is transmitted in different streams to the receiver. The receiver choses the best of the transmitted signal streams and decodes the signal. It is chosen such a way that, the best quality signal is obtained. So, even the weaker signals are boosted up by this technique. Infrastructure: Both LTE and wimax uses ip infrastructure. The flat structure of ip helps the mobile as well as the base station. Latency: Latency is less in LTE when compared to wimax. Range: Theoretically LTE has better rang than wimax. Although many realize physical activity is important, they still do not partake, for it is easier to sit and relax than it is to get up and move. • 22. Vita Nova Trinity Number 19 Analysis The Vita Nova has many symbolic themes throughout its structure such as the words vita and nova themselves. In both Italian and English, vita refers to life and nova in Italian refers to marvelous or strange, however in English, it refers to brightness (of light). Another symbol in the poem is the Trinity number nine as Dante refers to it every time he has an encounter with Beatrice. In this essay, because Vita Nova has 42 chapters, I will discuss how Beatrice represents (and/or mirrors) light throughout chapters 2 8 (with the definition of Trinity mentioned in chapter 29), through Dante s actual sight and uncontrollable dreams. The Trinity number nine is also found in this chapter, as it was precisely the ninth hour of that day, three o clock in the afternoon (III, 2). Although this is the chapter when Beatrice finally gives Dante her salutation, the chapter s focus is in his dream. In the dream, Dante sees a powerful figure holding his muse in one hand and forcing her to eat a burning object in another (III, 6). As the human like figure came out from a cloud the color of fire (III, 3), it said, ego dominus tuus...vide cor tuum (III, 3; 5) to Dante, the pilgrim, which translates into, I m your lord...look into your heart. In other words, the figure represents light itself (as God) since he claimed to be the lord and because he came from a cloud the color of fire (III, 3). Beatrice represents light because the figure forcibly fed her the burning object, Dante s heart, thus, giving her the ability to see through Dante s most secret chamber as mentioned in chapter two. Although one can argue that since this human like figure uses force against Beatrice and comes in the form of a fiery cloud, this figure can be mistaken as a Demon; however, because both the figure and Beatrice ascent toward the heavens (III, 7), it supports my argument that the figure is actually light ... Sleep Figurative Language The definition for rest is to stop being active for a period of time in order to relax and get back your strength, or to cause someone or something to stop doing an activity in order to get back strength (Cambridge). The definition for sleep is resting state in which the body is not active and the mind is unconscious (Cambridge). Words have more than one meaning; in many poems rest may mean rest in peace which means death. Another example of death is in the word sleep. In some areas in the bible, sleep represents death. Figurative language is not meant to be interpreted literally, but is used to intensify the work and please the readers imaginations. In line one in the poem it states, Where sunless rivers weep , the sunless rivers means the darkness or night time. Christina Rossetti was a religious person who used her faith in her writing.
