Food Contamination
The Center for Disease control has estimated that illnesses directly resulting from food contamination
cause approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths each year in the
United States. The rise of food related illnesses can be mostly attributed to increased eating out. Half
of every dollar spent on food in this country is spend on food prepared outside of the home. As the
amount of people involved preparing our food rises, so does the risk of contracting an illness from
food (Levitt). The people at the greatest risk are the elderly, infants, pregnant women, and those with
immune disorders; this high risk group comprises 25 percent of the US population. (Who). To prevent

Free Fall And Projectile Motion Lab Report
Freefall and Projectile Motion
Introduction and Objectives
This lab experiment was done to determine the characteristics of free fall and projectile motion in
Physics. The motion in which a body is thrown or projected is called Projectile motion while free fall
is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it, at least initially.
In this experiment, a photogate, a chopper, and a Universal Lab Interface were used to determine the
free fall motion of the chopper as it was released. A ball, carbon paper, and an L shape projector were
also used to determine the range of projectile motion of a ball being released from a horizontal yet
slightly vertical slope. At the end of the experiment, one will know how velocity ... Show more

The Photogate has a beam of infrared light that travels from one side to the other. It can detect
whenever this beam is blocked. A Picket Fence or a chopper, a piece of clear plastic with equally
spread out black sections on it, was dropped. As the Picket Fence passes through the Photogate, the
computer will measure the time from the leading edge of one bar blocking the beam until the leading
edge of the next bar blocks the beam. This timing continues as all eight bars pass through the
Photogate. From these measured times, the program will calculate the velocities and accelerations for
this motion and graphs will be plotted.

The Influence of Mythology on Literature and Society Essay
The Influence of Mythology on Literature and Society
Edith Hamilton is the author of the book Mythology. This book is about the Mythology of the Romans
and Greeks through her eyes and the way she interprets it. In the beginning of the book Hamilton
writes an introduction to Classical Mythology and how, and why it came about. She starts off by
writing that Greek and Roman Mythology is meant to show us how people felt about the human race
and about where they came from many years ago. She points out that Mythology describes the Earth
when it was young and people cared for the Earth more than today. This is true, because in today?s
world not many people are caring about the Earth and its going by us fast.
She also points out that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be how the Egyptian god?s have different body parts with other bodies and the
Greek gods are humans. Hamilton states that the Egyptians made gods they thought up and made them
in a way that no one has seen before. The Greeks therefore made their gods in there own image. That
made it easier for them to understand them and know how they act. The major point Hamilton is
showing in this introduction is that Mythology is a new to look at life and to understand it under a
different light. Another point she states is that Greek Mythology it?s self, is so unique that it showed
extreme beauty yet fear at that same time. The gods were not to be completely feared, but respected to
the point where you didn?t anger them. Greek Mythology is also unique, because it doesn?t have
many of the things that are in most religion or folklore. Hamilton states that Greek Mythology didn?t
contain Magic or Witches, and in reality didn?t fear the dead, they actually pitied the dead. Hamilton?s
main point in this whole introduction is that Mythology itself is completely and totally different from
any other religion or folklore ever. Mythology was written in such a beautiful way that upon reading
it, it seems real and it begins to take shape. She is also saying that Greek Mythology was in a way
different than normal Mythology and therefore changed the face of Mythology forever.

The Industrial Age In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
From 1865 to 1910, the Industrial Age was an interesting time of great economic growth and
prosperity for the United States as a whole, however the American citizens who worked to push this
positive chain of success paved the way and paid the cost for that very occurrence. In The Jungle, a
family from Lithuania travels to the United States in order to gain a better living than what they had in
their home country. During their time of adjustment to life within the United States, some members of
the Rudkus and Lukoszaite family especially Jurgis Rudkus, experienced extreme hardship while
attempting to develop their lives into a better state for the sake of their family s wellbeing. Upton
Sinclair opens a small window into the lives of hopeful and hardworking immigrants to reveal how
America s Industrialization Age hindered many from true freedom. This was due to a lack of care for
employees and their wellbeing in the workplace, poor sanitary conditions that led to unhealthy living
conditions for workers, and political corruption which was held over certain citizens in order to allow
corruption to thrive, making workers remain powerless. Industrialization called for the opening of
many different factories for increased economic boom within America. These factories allowed
strenuous jobs to men and children for poor pay. The Jungle closely follows Jurgis during his time as a
floor cleaner whose job it is to remove cattle remains following their death. In one example, Jurgis

Jack Russell Terrier Essay
PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER (JACK RUSSELL TERRIER)
ORIGIN AND HISTORY
This breed was developed in England in the mid 1800s by a clergyman, Reverend John Russell. Rev.
Russell was an avid enthusiast of fox hunting and wanted to develop a dog that would go to ground
after the fox and flush it from its hole so the hunt could continue. Size was of the utmost importance to
Rev. Russell as the dog had to keep up with the foxhounds. The ideal height of his terriers at the
shoulders was 15 . After Rev. Russell s death, a short legged, long bodied dog with prick ears and a
smooth coat came to be known as the Jack Russell terrier and it was that dog that was brought to
America. In 1990 the breed was established in England as the Parson Jack Russell terrier and adopted
the standard desired by Rev. Russell of a muscular, narrow chested dog, 12 15 inches in height.
In 1985, the Jack Russell Terrier Breeders Association was formed to re establish the original type
terrier bred by Rev. Russell. This group became the Jack Russell Terrier Association of American and

The Effects Of Agriculture On The Environment
Agriculture is very important, but it also harms the environment if not conducted carefully.
Agriculture is harming the quality of groundwater, the amount of nitrogen applied to the soil, and
causing runoff to go into the ocean . Agriculture is a human activity; it harms the carbon cycle and the
water cycle. Modern agricultural practices have started the process of agricultural pollution. This
process causes the degradation of the ecosystem, land, and environment due to the modern day
byproducts of agriculture. (Conserve Energy Future)
Agriculture contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gas emissions which disperse into
the air. According to Will Allen, green farmer extraordinaire, greenhouse gasses along with the
manufacture and use of pesticides and fertilizers, fuel and oil for tractors, equipment, trucking and
shipping, electricity for lighting, cooling, and heating, and emissions of carbon dioxide, methane,
nitrous oxide... make a huge impact on the environment. The end result can be between 25 and 30
percent of the U.S. s overall carbon footprint. The relationship between management of agricultural
and the Geoscience data, along with the results of global climate, will be discussed in the following
paragraphs.
Problem
Agriculture is the practice of farming, which can be anything from growing crops to raising animals
that provide food. Different types of farming impact the environment and ecosystems. The

The Scenes Of Your Cup Of Milk

Behind the Scenes of Your Cup of Milk
Magazines, newspapers, and health blog posts have been talking about the unhealthy consequences of
Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) for many years. The more people grew conscious of what they were
consuming, the more they researched about their food. The usage of Bovine Growth Hormone among
the dairy industries has caught the attention of many consumers. Countless studies that were done
regarding rBGH treated milk only validated the negative effects of rBGH. Cows should not be treated
with rBGH due to the detrimental effects the hormone has on cows health, the potential harmful
effects it can have on consumers due to rampant antibiotic use, and the breaching of autonomy and
rights abuses of the cows treated.
Bovine Somatotropin (BST) is commonly known as Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH). Somatotropin
is a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland of animals. BST aids in increasing the growth in
young cattles and lactation in milk cows. rBGH is an artificial somatotropin hormone that is created
through recombinant biotechnology. When rBGH is administered to milk cows, the milk production of
the cows increase by 10 to 15 percent (USDA, 2009). Injecting the cows with rBGH forces the cows
to lactate more which makes them more vulnerable to mastitis (udder infection). Mastitis causes the
cows to secrete pus from their udder, hence, pus incorporated milk. Monsanto s data

Essay On Steroids Should Be Banned
Is Banning Steroids In Pro Bodybuildings Best Interests?
Placing a total ban on the use 0f steroids by professional bodybuilders has both positive and negative
implications that should be carefully considered before any decisions are made. Such a monumental
decision should be thoroughly debated amongst all stakeholders because any final decision reached is
bound to have far reaching implications. Some will argue that the sport of bodybuilding is all about
displaying the extremes the body can be taken to and that the current state of affairs needs to be
upheld. Well, it is common sense that most if not all professional bodybuilders use steroids to develop
their massive physiques.
These physiques are what attract people to the sport in the first place. This is not necessarily to

the sale of supplements. It is indeed these massive physiques that can only be created through the use

This is no mean investment, the costs of doing so are sky high and they will definitely hurt the bottom
lines of the stakeholders. Drug testing is a dynamic procedure that needs to be adjusted time and again
so as to be up to speed with the crafty users who are constantly inventing novel ways to escape
detection. This is another cost altogether. A ban on steroids will spur the design and engineering of
many more steroid varieties that will take ages before they can be sanctioned, be approved or
disapproved. The market will be awash with excessively many options that will be beyond the control
of industry regulators.A ban from the IFBB will almost likely see the creation of splinter federations

Should Finance Education Be Mandatory Component of School...
Financial education should be mandatory component of the school program. To what extent do you
agree or disagree with this statement?
Outline. In many countries the discussion about the rising financial problems of young people has
been getting more emphasis. Tough some people are voting to integrate financial education as a
schooling subject. It is an obvious fact that financial aspects are a major part of daily life, as an adult
and even as a young individual. Each and every one of us has to make financial decisions concerning
recreation, health, education and more. The question is whether to start with financial education as
part of school program or postpone it for a later stage in life.
The key problem for many young people is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of money and some people find it interfere in their business.
Positive aspects: Finance is an issue relating to all people during their lives. Every of us has to make
financial decision every day in many daily activities. As a result, there is one question that has been
raised for ages: when is the right time to start teaching children to manage and use money. Some
people believe that government should take financial education into school curricula, but some
disagree with this idea.
To begin with, parents think that if children are taught about money too early, they will be obsessed
with money. That could result in valuing everything at a particular amount of money. In addition, they
may talk about money all the time at home, at school and in public places. Gradually children become
money minded ones, which negatively affects their life in the future.
By contrast, beginning learning financial education from the early age helps children understand the
important value of money. That leads them to use it reasonably. Money is an indispensable

Spanking Speech
Your disrespectful child just got suspended from school for swearing at a teacher. Do you think
spanking is necessary? I don t think spanking your child for his/her wrongdoing is abusive. Believe it
or not, it actually teaches your child not to do it again. It also shows them that, that type of behavior is
unacceptable and that you will not tolerate it.
Some kids that s more timid and usually respectful would be fine with a pop on the hand and time out
or take their Tv time and iPad privilege away, but then there s the kids who like to push their limits.
Spankings should be used when necessary, because I feel like your child s behavior is a reflection of
yourself no matter where you go, what you do, or who you re with. You will always be your mother s
child. So when people look at you they see your mother so that makes a big difference in your
behavior goals. If you ve spanked your child and they re still testing you time, and time again, you
should pick out a switch or a thick leather belt before your child ends up on Beyond Scared Straight .
Spankings are very necessary because it shows your child that you re his/her parent first, and friend
second. It ll also teach them respect and make them afraid to go against your rules again. Children in
more than 20 countries are grown up without being spanked in homes, daycare, or schools. In Norway,

Barbie the Teenage Fashion Doll Essay examples
The idea of Barbie came about when a woman named Ruth Handler was watching her daughter play
with dolls. In the 1950 s, girls of all ages only had paper or cardboard dolls to play with and preferred
to play with cut outs of teenagers and adult dolls. So, Ruth Handler thought to make The Teenage
Fashion Doll for older girls, as a three dimensional doll, called Barbie, named after her daughter
Barbara (Heppermann 2010). However, Mrs. Handler met resistance when she went to her husband
with the idea, and he didn t think her idea would work out. When they travelled to Germany, she found
a doll called Bild Lilli. This doll was a strong minded individual that would use all at her disposal to
get what she wanted. Bild Lilli was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Young girls usually use the dolls to play house or dress up. Sometimes when there is an accompanying
set, there are simple instructions given for example, if the Barbie doll came with the Glam Fashion Jet,
it would be accompanied with instructions of how to use each part of the jet.
Moreover, Barbies are very durable and depending on how well they are maintained, they can become
family heirlooms and be passed on from generation to generation. Often, depending on the age of the
child, the Barbie may be altered either by the cutting of her hair or the changing of her clothes. Yet,
due to the fact that Barbie is a lifestyle toy, children are encouraged to continue these alterations to
promote creative thought. Therefore overall, Barbies can last indefinitely with proper care or be short
lived if they are not well taken care of.
Barbie s popularity spread like wildfire, leading to her being used as a platform to immortalize popular
figures by way of making special editions figures of them. For instance, America s First Lady in the
60s, Jackie Kennedy was one of the first muses and hence set precedence for future icons. This also
extends to many designers such as Christian Louboutin, Vera Wang, and Alexander McQueen who
have collaborated with Mattel to celebrate Barbie s 50TH anniversary, in 2009 (Parker, 2008). This
form of branding provides notoriety for both the inspirational figure and his work and for the toy as
well. This is no small feat for

The History Of The Globe Theatre

Prof. Rebecca Thornberry
Intro to theater
October 28, 2016
The History of the Globe Theatre Today we know of The Globe Theatre on because of the famous
playwright and director known as William Shakespeare. The events which took place in The Globe s
past and what is its future may be, have become, and will be, an important part of the history of theater
and drama. This paper will discuss the history of the Globe theatre, the importance it held at its time,
and the importance of The Globe Theater now and in the future.
In 1576, during the Elizabethan era, James Burbage and a partner went to a landlord, Giles Allen, to
lease some land for a theater. Giles and James agreed to a 21 year lease in which James would be
allowed to build his theatre known as The Theatre . It was located north of the London Wall
(Mabillard). Starting in 1596, when the lease for the land for the theatre was due to expire, there were
many legal issues between the landlord and tenant. There were also disputes between those involved
in running the business. James Burbage died in 1567 and he left his two sons, Richard and Cuthbert
Burbage, his shares of the theatre.(Globe) The Burbage brothers took an extreme action to protect
their assets because, as a result of the dispute, they were facing eviction. The landowner had hoped he
would be able to acquire the theater when the tenants left. (Shapiro) In December of 1598 while Giles
Allen was away on holiday, the Burbage brothers,

Army recognized the most cost effective process was to address energy efficiency first, and then

Women s Role And Image Of Women
Within industrialized nations, the role and image of women has undergone profound changes over the
past few decades. Female participation in the workforce has increased steadily and societal attitudes
towards women engaging in paid work have undergone significant change (Schwartz, 1988). These
historical shifts have made the equality of women and men in society and the workforce an attainable
goal. The participation of women in paid labour has challenged traditional gender roles and the
societal ideal of the nuclear family with a sole male breadwinner. However, the primary responsibility
of childcare continues to fall upon women.
There are biological and social realities that must be taken into consideration when creating workplace

Virtually all countries worldwide have implemented legislation that offers maternity protection,
however the level of support provided for new parents varies internationally (Addati et al., 2014).
The United States and Canada are two countries with close cultural ties; however, the history of
family policy and implementation of parental leave differs significantly between these nations. This
paper will provide an analysis of the parental leave guidelines in Canada and the United States; the
historical, ideological, political, and economic factors that have influenced policy decision making;
the impacts of paid maternity leave on employment and maternal and infant health; future implications
of parental leave policy; and desirable policy development for both of these nations. The parental
leave policies of Canada and the United States make for a rich policy comparison. There are several
key differences between the policy approaches of these countries. These policy differences are the
result of a variety of factors that can by compared and contrasted to develop an understanding of how
these policies came into fruition. In addition to the distinct differences in the policy routes taken
within these countries in regards to parental leave, there are a number of less prominent similarities
that can be examined as well. An important aspect of any comparative social policy research is

Ethanol Pollution
W. Patzek 2005, 324). When those chemicals are released in ethanol fumes they are released in the air
and are inhaled by people around the cars. The New York Department of health (NYDH) reports that,
ammonia is irritating and corrosive. Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia in air causes
immediate burning of the nose, throat and respiratory tract (NYHD 2005). The use of fertilizers in
corn production makes ethanol even worse than gasoline. Patzek states, the air is more polluted with
the use of ethanol, and more health hazards are introduced with agricultural chemicals, fertilizers,
pesticides and herbicides, and by the waste water streams (Tad W. Patzek
2005, 325). Ethanol is not a clean fuel, and it is causing more pollution than gasoline does.
Ethanol strains corn consumption, because corn is so important that it is used for so many different
things. Animal feed is mostly made of corn and corn silage. Ethanol causes shortages in other crops
like corn and cotton. On top of that, ethanol is not only not a good fuel, but it isn t a clean soil, adding
health risks by releasing toxic chemical fumes. With all those factors ethanol should not be used or
even produced.
The Solution
Ethanol production numbers continue to rise and it is causing a problem. The solution to this problem
is to stop producing ethanol. Without the production of ethanol corn would not be wasted. Corn is a
very important food resource for humans and animals alike.

Analysis Of A Sound Of Thunder

Period 5

The Coward s way A Sound of Thunder (Ray Bradbury) and The Lottery (Shirley Jackson) are both
connected through a specific quality that characters in both stories contain. That quality is the inability
to make good decisions. When faced with alarming or stressful situations, Eckels, Travis, and the
townsfolk in the lottery, make bad decisions. The townsfolk blunder through their life, blindly
following the unjust tradition to stone someone to death each year. Eckels and Travis are both
cowards, and cowards tend to make bad decisions because they are selfish. Both stories are connected
by these cowardly people that make bad decisions. The lottery townsfolk are put under pressure by not
a person, but by tradition. Tradition makes them scared, and fear blinds people. Traditions can have
many beginnings, but ones such as this, with no positive result, are simply a terrible decision.
However, the townsfolk believe in tradition, and this pressures them into going along with this
horrible idea. When Mrs. Hutchinson is chosen, she also makes a bad decision. Fear can cause denial,
which, in Mrs. Hutchinson s case, can lead to your death. Instead of turning tail and running from her
fate, she stands and lets the other townsfolk surround her, simply saying, It isn t fair, it isn t right, (The
Lottery). Then simply letting the other townsfolk kill her

Physical Order Produces Healthy Choices, Generosity, And...
Title of the reviewed article: Physical Order Produces Healthy Choices, Generosity, and
Conventionality, Whereas Disorder Produces Creativity
Reviewer s name: Dolkira Alkisti
1. Summary
The main aim of this study was to show that physical settings could have an impact on human
behaviour and decision making. More specifically, the authors hypothesized that orderly environments
promote healthy food choices, generosity and convention, whilst disorderly settings foster creativity.
In the three experiments conducted, each participant was placed in a room (half of the participants in
an orderly condition and the other half in a disorderly). In the first experiment, 34 Dutch students were
tested as to whether being in an organized setting can influence preferences of food choices and
donating money to a charity, in comparison to a messy environment. The second experiment measured
the influence of the environmental order concerning creativity in 48 American students. In the third
experiment, the authors measured the preference for a new or a classic option in 188 American adults.
As regards the outcomes of the experiments, the participants in a non organized setting made less
healthy food choices and donated less money compared to the participants in the orderly room.
Furthermore, they produced ideas that are more creative and showed a preference towards the new
rather than the classic choice in contrast to the participants that were located in a tidy condition.

William Faulkner s The Golden Compass
The Golden Compass is a fantasy book of a series, called His Dark Materials. This is a book for
adolescents and teenagers. Some of the material would be hard for a younger minor to understand.
Adolescents and teens would find it more captivating as they can relate to experiences and thoughts of
the main character. Adults could be interested in this story with the fantasy twist, but would not really
understand as a younger audience would. I very much enjoyed reading it. The characters were
concrete. The fantasy of it was dazzling, at times scary, but still alluring. Yet, at times, it was hard to
follow. The book had shown me more that people are not always what they seem and to trust your
instincts. In the story, we are mainly from the perspective of an adolescent child named Lyra who
grew up in a college, known as Jordan. In this fiction, there are witches; polar bears that are called ice
bears, but the ice bears are like humans; Gobblers that kidnap kids; and every human being have a

Male Gaze Sparknotes
Stacey, J. (1993) Star gazing: Hollywood cinema and female spectatorship. New York: Routledge.
The author, Jackie Stacey is a British feminist film historian. The main goal of her research is to
understand the specific pleasure and engagements of British cinema audiences in the 1940s and 1950s.
Stacey received 350 letters from women who went to the cinema 2 3 times a week during this period
of wartime as cinema going was at an all time high. Within the book, Stacey discusses Laura Mulvey s
Male Gaze and how Mulvey s analysis of the pleasures of Hollywood cinema led her to conclude that
the spectator position offered is a masculine one. She talks about how there are 3 looks within the
dominant mode of Hollywood cinema; the camera(man), the editor and the director. She emphasizes
on how all of these looks work together to create the effect of seeing the female characters as objects
of desire through the eyes of the male characters.
However, Stacey argues that women do not have to adopt the dominant masculine position offered by
the text in order to gain pleasure from looking at the female characters. Stacey describes Mulvey s
work as an attack on the visual pleasures of Hollywood cinema (page 24). She broadens her argument
to state the distance between spectator and screen contributes to the voyeuristic pleasure of ... Show

Becoming A Father Is A Life Changing Experience
Becoming a father is a life changing experience. Most fathers will remember that one special day for
the rest of their lives, while other fathers say the day their child was born was the day their life as they
knew it was over. After sitting down and interviewing three different fathers who had three very
different experiences before and after child birth my eyes have been opened to the multiple views,
experiences, memories, and feelings these three gentlemen have experienced or will soon experience.
Mr. Snyder who is currently awaiting the birth of his first child in the spring of 2015 was the first man
I interviewed. Mr. Celso is the second man I interviewed. Mr. Celso and his wife experienced a very
emotional and nerve wrecking pregnancy and birth of their two 4 month old twins. Lastly, Mr. Shipley
was the last man I interviewed. Mr. Shipley is a father of a one year old boy. Mr. Shipley s experience
of the birth of his child was much different then the other two gentlemen given that Mr. Shipley and
the mother of his son are not in any type of relationship, nor were they during their child s birth. Each
of these men shared a lot of similarities as well as an abundance of differences regarding their children
and soon to be children.

Gender Discrimination During The Early Nineteenth Century
Would you believe me if I told you that there was a time that women were fired simply for getting
married, or that the wanted ads in the Sunday paper were separated according to gender? Gender
discrimination has been an ongoing battle in the work force for many decades, centuries even. Woman
have long fought to have equality in the work place and have come a long way. Unfortunately, gender
discrimination still exists in modern times and there is still a struggle for women when it comes to
equal rights obtaining a job, advancement from current positions, and the ability to earn an equal
salary to a male peer. History shows that for hundreds of years woman have been the minority in the
work force. A look back at the early nineteenth century shows that the United States was focused on
agriculture. During this time, women of all ages participated as workers in the family business without
an earned income. Their roles were to actively share in the families agricultural business without pay.
It was during the progress of industrialization that brought about the need for new jobs and employees.
While this led to a decrease of economic activity among married women, it increased the participation
of single women in paid labor prior to the year 1850. This was due to the new methods of production
which allowed for unskilled workers to take the place of skilled labor. Women who had worked as
servants for low pay quickly turned to mill towns where they could earn a higher income while

Technically RACE 2015 had no headline speaker, but most seems to attach such title to Tal Itshak

The Resistance Of Bacteria And Antibiotics
The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is becoming a grave and global medical problem. This is
because whenever antibiotics are taken the development of resistance is a given consequence; bacteria
adapt to changing environmental conditions through the continuous process of evolution. The main
issue with antibiotics is not whether but when antibiotic resistance will occur.
This resistance is caused by the lack of new antibiotics available and continuing over prescription of
antibiotics. Any bacteria that acquire resistance alleles, by either random mutation or genetic exchange
with other bacteria, have the capability to resist multiple antibiotics. Therefore, the process of bacteria
gaining multiple resistance attributes over time gives bacteria the ability to become resistant to many
different families of antibiotics.
Nosocomial infections are, in particular, an progressively prevalent problem. This is because

Summary Of Graham Greene s The Power And The Glory
In Graham Greene s novel, The Power and the Glory, there is an unnamed character called, the
Whisky Priest. The priest is an alcoholic, proud, envious, dishonest, cowardly, weak of faith, and
judgmental priest; however, he takes on the role of being a priest as a way of self denial because he
knows he is not worthy and he would rather accept the fact of being lost in the crowd of forgettable
slums. In the novel, the priest tries to run away from situations in several occurrences, but in the end,
realizes that he, being a priest, is the only hope for the people even though he feels that there is no
hope for him. In the simplest way, the whisky priest is a witness to the people because he is a selfish
drunkard who is transformed into a martyr, is blinded, but sees light through his sufferings, and in that
light, he finds his vocation as not a higher up ranking, but as a servant of the people as he lives so that
others may live with Christ. Therefore, concludes that the power and the glory do not belong to him,
but rather to Christ. He also realizes the power is not of reigning over people, but by service to others,
and the glory that he receives is not for him, but for God alone.
Throughout the book, the priest is called to serve the church instead of escaping the church. He feels
an obligation to demonstrate this martyrdom by bearing the cross for the people, in comparison to
Simon of Cyrene. However, he is a habitual liar that refuses to think the holy should suffer. For
example, the whisky priest, in the beginning, was blind of who Christ is; moreover, in comparison to
Peter, both deny Christ several times, but eventually come to see that the holy must suffer because
Christ is a suffering Messiah, not one who used power to reign, but to endure suffering in order to
defeat death. The whisky priest believes that he is not worthy, which is true, but by accepting the fact
of being a servant to God, even though he was cruel, he denies himself by saving others and following
God s will for him rather than escaping the scene and following his own. In this way, the whisky priest
is following the way of the cross.
The sense of the suffering Messiah is not presented to him clearly until he witnesses Christ in

knowledge that states that a subject knows that p if he can distinguish or discriminate the truth of p
from the possible alternatives (24). The example in the text stated that it is not enough to believe that
the person in front of you is who you think he/she is (e.g. Lilly), if you are not able to distinguish them
from a twin (e.g. twin Milly), then it does not matter if your belief is true, you have no knowledge of
the person being in front of you being Lilly. Nozick presents two subjunctive conditionals: variation

If Henry was not looking at a real barn (p false) and papier mache barns are scattered (q would be
true), he would still believe that he was looking at a real barn. The variation condition would not be
satisfied (not looking at a real barn  not (Henry believes that he is looking at a real barn)), therefore
Henry does not know p. However, the alternative is irrelevant (e.g. the papier mache barns are
scattered in another location) then it does not affect the reliability and the subject then knows p

Similarities Between English American And French Revolutions
The future of a country is somewhat contrasted through distinguished moments in history, the English,
American and French revolutions proved this theory by shaping the countries into the powerhouses
they are today, all of which have some similarities in the general causes that lead to the countries

Great Rebellion was the result of the monarchy and its following fighting the wishes of parliament
throughout the 1640 s. The cause originated from James I who believed in the divine right of kings,
basically casting out the parliament involvement, even though the two were actually supposed to act
as a balanced polity . James I and the parliament disagreed on many things, but ... Show more content

The Puritans within the Anglican Church, wished to eliminate these Roman Catholicism beliefs, but
Charles had these protesters alienated, which for the early part of the revolution was a bad decision on
Charles I behalf. The conflict that had arose during the reign of James (1625 1649) had extended
through to his son s time in the monarchy, with Charles I sharing the same religious beliefs as his
father. This added hostility to the situation with parliament and also with Puritans, forcing thousands
to relocate to the land of America. As England eventually slipped into a civil war, fighting over the
right of religious practices in court, the people of Ireland and Scotland started supported parliament
and the roles of which it should have in the United Kingdom. As protests mounted, the New Model

This book is about the Mythology of the Romans and Greeks through her eyes and the way she interprets it. In the beginning of the book Hamilton writes an introduction to Classical Mythology and how, and why it came about. She starts off by writing that Greek and Roman Mythology is meant to show us how people felt about the human race and about where they came from many years ago. She points out that Mythology describes the Earth when it was young and people cared for the Earth more than today. This is true, because in today?s world not many people are caring about the Earth and its going by us fast. She also points out that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example would be how the Egyptian god?s have different body parts with other bodies and the Greek gods are humans. Hamilton states that the Egyptians made gods they thought up and made them in a way that no one has seen before. The Greeks therefore made their gods in there own image. That made it easier for them to understand them and know how they act. The major point Hamilton is showing in this introduction is that Mythology is a new to look at life and to understand it under a different light. Another point she states is that Greek Mythology it?s self, is so unique that it showed extreme beauty yet fear at that same time. The gods were not to be completely feared, but respected to the point where you didn?t anger them. Greek Mythology is also unique, because it doesn?t have many of the things that are in most religion or folklore. Hamilton states that Greek Mythology didn?t contain Magic or Witches, and in reality didn?t fear the dead, they actually pitied the dead. Hamilton?s main point in this whole introduction is that Mythology itself is completely and totally different from any other religion or folklore ever. Mythology was written in such a beautiful way that upon reading it, it seems real and it begins to take shape. She is also saying that Greek Mythology was in a way different than normal Mythology and therefore changed the face of Mythology forever. PART TWO: Aside from mortals and immortals in ... In The Jungle, a family from Lithuania travels to the United States in order to gain a better living than what they had in their home country. During their time of adjustment to life within the United States, some members of the Rudkus and Lukoszaite family especially Jurgis Rudkus, experienced extreme hardship while attempting to develop their lives into a better state for the sake of their family s wellbeing. Upton Sinclair opens a small window into the lives of hopeful and hardworking immigrants to reveal how America s Industrialization Age hindered many from true freedom. This was due to a lack of care for employees and their wellbeing in the workplace, poor sanitary conditions that led to unhealthy living conditions for workers, and political corruption which was held over certain citizens in order to allow corruption to thrive, making workers remain powerless. Industrialization called for the opening of many different factories for increased economic boom within America. These factories allowed strenuous jobs to men and children for poor pay. The Jungle closely follows Jurgis during his time as a floor cleaner whose job it is to remove cattle remains following their death. In one example, Jurgis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Agriculture is harming the quality of groundwater, the amount of nitrogen applied to the soil, and causing runoff to go into the ocean . Agriculture is a human activity; it harms the carbon cycle and the water cycle. Modern agricultural practices have started the process of agricultural pollution. This process causes the degradation of the ecosystem, land, and environment due to the modern day byproducts of agriculture. (Conserve Energy Future) Agriculture contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gas emissions which disperse into the air. According to Will Allen, green farmer extraordinaire, greenhouse gasses along with the manufacture and use of pesticides and fertilizers, fuel and oil for tractors, equipment, trucking and shipping, electricity for lighting, cooling, and heating, and emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide... make a huge impact on the environment. The Scenes Of Your Cup Of Milk Christine Lee Professor Lynn Dowdy Biology 100 16 October 2015 Behind the Scenes of Your Cup of Milk Magazines, newspapers, and health blog posts have been talking about the unhealthy consequences of Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) for many years. The more people grew conscious of what they were consuming, the more they researched about their food. The usage of Bovine Growth Hormone among the dairy industries has caught the attention of many consumers. Countless studies that were done regarding rBGH treated milk only validated the negative effects of rBGH. Cows should not be treated with rBGH due to the detrimental effects the hormone has on cows health, the potential harmful effects it can have on consumers due to rampant antibiotic use, and the breaching of autonomy and rights abuses of the cows treated. Bovine Somatotropin (BST) is commonly known as Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH). Somatotropin is a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland of animals. BST aids in increasing the growth in young cattles and lactation in milk cows. rBGH is an artificial somatotropin hormone that is created through recombinant biotechnology. When rBGH is administered to milk cows, the milk production of the cows increase by 10 to 15 percent (USDA, 2009). Injecting the cows with rBGH forces the cows to lactate more which makes them more vulnerable to mastitis (udder infection). Title of the reviewed article: Physical Order Produces Healthy Choices, Generosity, and Conventionality, Whereas Disorder Produces Creativity Reviewer s name: Dolkira Alkisti 1. Summary The main aim of this study was to show that physical settings could have an impact on human behaviour and decision making. More specifically, the authors hypothesized that orderly environments promote healthy food choices, generosity and convention, whilst disorderly settings foster creativity. In the three experiments conducted, each participant was placed in a room (half of the participants in an orderly condition and the other half in a disorderly). In the first experiment, 34 Dutch students were tested as to whether being in an organized setting can influence preferences of food choices and donating money to a charity, in comparison to a messy environment. The second experiment measured the influence of the environmental order concerning creativity in 48 American students. In the third experiment, the authors measured the preference for a new or a classic option in 188 American adults. As regards the outcomes of the experiments, the participants in a non organized setting made less healthy food choices and donated less money compared to the participants in the orderly room. Furthermore, they produced ideas that are more creative and showed a preference towards the new rather than the classic choice in contrast to the participants that were located in a tidy condition. • 36. Male Gaze Sparknotes Stacey, J. (1993) Star gazing: Hollywood cinema and female spectatorship. New York: Routledge. The author, Jackie Stacey is a British feminist film historian. The main goal of her research is to understand the specific pleasure and engagements of British cinema audiences in the 1940s and 1950s. Stacey received 350 letters from women who went to the cinema 2 3 times a week during this period of wartime as cinema going was at an all time high. Within the book, Stacey discusses Laura Mulvey s Male Gaze and how Mulvey s analysis of the pleasures of Hollywood cinema led her to conclude that the spectator position offered is a masculine one. She talks about how there are 3 looks within the dominant mode of Hollywood cinema; the camera(man), the editor and the director. She emphasizes on how all of these looks work together to create the effect of seeing the female characters as objects of desire through the eyes of the male characters. However, Stacey argues that women do not have to adopt the dominant masculine position offered by the text in order to gain pleasure from looking at the female characters. Stacey describes Mulvey s work as an attack on the visual pleasures of Hollywood cinema (page 24). She broadens her argument to state the distance between spectator and screen contributes to the voyeuristic pleasure of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William T. • 37. Becoming A Father Is A Life Changing Experience Becoming a father is a life changing experience. Most fathers will remember that one special day for the rest of their lives, while other fathers say the day their child was born was the day their life as they knew it was over. After sitting down and interviewing three different fathers who had three very different experiences before and after child birth my eyes have been opened to the multiple views, experiences, memories, and feelings these three gentlemen have experienced or will soon experience. Mr. Snyder who is currently awaiting the birth of his first child in the spring of 2015 was the first man I interviewed. Mr. Celso is the second man I interviewed. Mr. Celso and his wife experienced a very emotional and nerve wrecking pregnancy and birth of their two 4 month old twins. Lastly, Mr. Shipley was the last man I interviewed. Mr. Shipley is a father of a one year old boy. Mr. Shipley s experience of the birth of his child was much different then the other two gentlemen given that Mr. Shipley and the mother of his son are not in any type of relationship, nor were they during their child s birth. Each of these men shared a lot of similarities as well as an abundance of differences regarding their children and soon to be children. Fatherhood has rapidly evolved over the years. Before the mother of the child was the most important player in the game of pregnancy. Now, the fathers have taken on just as big of a role as the mothers (Fägerskiöld, 2008). One of the ... Pay for Performance HR 434 Compensation Management 23 February 2012 Pay for Performance What better way to drive people to work harder and more efficiently, you may ask, than to offer them a special carrot: more money for hitting specific company targets? The idea seems perfect. Studies have shown time and again that pay represents one of the most important factors involved in retaining qualified employees, it is little wonder that there has been a great deal of attention focused on how best to compensate employees for their performance in recent years. Moreover, because employee performance and productivity is inextricably related to organizational profitability, these issues have assumed new relevance and importance in the current economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Risher advises, While it is effectively a universal practice for white collar employees in non government sectors, [pay for performance programs] represent a radical and difficult change for public agencies (p.51). Likewise, Hyde advises that, Pay for performance has been proposed, debated, and dismissed for over fifty years in public personnel management. Although legal challenges have been filed, pay for performance emerges as the new model for federal human resources pay practice and the cornerstone of federal public management strategy (p. 3). Nevertheless, beyond the legal challenges involved, there are a number of constraints to the implementation and execution of such initiatives that can make or break their success. This point is made by Kellough and Nigro who report that a pay for performance initiative in the State of Georgia known as GeorgiaGain has been viewed by many state employees as inherently unfair and wracked by favoritism despite the enormous amount of resources devoted to the program s design and implementation (p. 447). Likewise, in his analysis of pay for performance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Gender Discrimination During The Early Nineteenth Century Would you believe me if I told you that there was a time that women were fired simply for getting married, or that the wanted ads in the Sunday paper were separated according to gender? Gender discrimination has been an ongoing battle in the work force for many decades, centuries even. Woman have long fought to have equality in the work place and have come a long way. Unfortunately, gender discrimination still exists in modern times and there is still a struggle for women when it comes to equal rights obtaining a job, advancement from current positions, and the ability to earn an equal salary to a male peer. History shows that for hundreds of years woman have been the minority in the work force. A look back at the early nineteenth century shows that the United States was focused on agriculture. During this time, women of all ages participated as workers in the family business without an earned income. Their roles were to actively share in the families agricultural business without pay. It was during the progress of industrialization that brought about the need for new jobs and employees. While this led to a decrease of economic activity among married women, it increased the participation of single women in paid labor prior to the year 1850. This was due to the new methods of production which allowed for unskilled workers to take the place of skilled labor. Women who had worked as servants for low pay quickly turned to mill towns where they could earn a higher income while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Resistance Of Bacteria And Antibiotics The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is becoming a grave and global medical problem. This is because whenever antibiotics are taken the development of resistance is a given consequence; bacteria adapt to changing environmental conditions through the continuous process of evolution. The main issue with antibiotics is not whether but when antibiotic resistance will occur. This resistance is caused by the lack of new antibiotics available and continuing over prescription of antibiotics. Any bacteria that acquire resistance alleles, by either random mutation or genetic exchange with other bacteria, have the capability to resist multiple antibiotics. Therefore, the process of bacteria gaining multiple resistance attributes over time gives bacteria the ability to become resistant to many different families of antibiotics. Nosocomial infections are, in particular, an progressively prevalent problem. This is because weakened immune systems of hospital patients make them particularly vulnerable to infection. E. coli is frequent cause of infection, especially in the urinary tract. This means patients catheters could easily be at risk to a resistant strand of E.coli. In the US alone, the overall cost for medical intervention of nosocomial urinary tract infections is staggering, with approximately $424 million to $451 million spent annually in the United States to manage these infections (source). • 45. Summary Of Graham Greene s The Power And The Glory In Graham Greene s novel, The Power and the Glory, there is an unnamed character called, the Whisky Priest. The priest is an alcoholic, proud, envious, dishonest, cowardly, weak of faith, and judgmental priest; however, he takes on the role of being a priest as a way of self denial because he knows he is not worthy and he would rather accept the fact of being lost in the crowd of forgettable slums. In the novel, the priest tries to run away from situations in several occurrences, but in the end, realizes that he, being a priest, is the only hope for the people even though he feels that there is no hope for him. In the simplest way, the whisky priest is a witness to the people because he is a selfish drunkard who is transformed into a martyr, is blinded, but sees light through his sufferings, and in that light, he finds his vocation as not a higher up ranking, but as a servant of the people as he lives so that others may live with Christ. Therefore, concludes that the power and the glory do not belong to him, but rather to Christ. He also realizes the power is not of reigning over people, but by service to others, and the glory that he receives is not for him, but for God alone. Throughout the book, the priest is called to serve the church instead of escaping the church. He feels an obligation to demonstrate this martyrdom by bearing the cross for the people, in comparison to Simon of Cyrene. However, he is a habitual liar that refuses to think the holy should suffer. For example, the whisky priest, in the beginning, was blind of who Christ is; moreover, in comparison to Peter, both deny Christ several times, but eventually come to see that the holy must suffer because Christ is a suffering Messiah, not one who used power to reign, but to endure suffering in order to defeat death. The whisky priest believes that he is not worthy, which is true, but by accepting the fact of being a servant to God, even though he was cruel, he denies himself by saving others and following God s will for him rather than escaping the scene and following his own. In this way, the whisky priest is following the way of the cross. The sense of the suffering Messiah is not presented to him clearly until he witnesses Christ in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Robert Nozick Reliabilism Robert Nozick presents a reliabilist view of the conditions of knowledge as he states that causal connection is not enough and for a true belief to qualify as knowledge it must not be a lucky coincidence that the belief is true...must be non accidentally true (21). He states that the belief must be true if possible changes are made to p in possible worlds, closest to the real world (subjunctive conditionals). In his essay, Nozick supports his argument with the relevant alternative theory of knowledge that states that a subject knows that p if he can distinguish or discriminate the truth of p from the possible alternatives (24). The example in the text stated that it is not enough to believe that the person in front of you is who you think he/she is (e.g. Lilly), if you are not able to distinguish them from a twin (e.g. twin Milly), then it does not matter if your belief is true, you have no knowledge of the person being in front of you being Lilly. Nozick presents two subjunctive conditionals: variation condition ( not p  not (S believes that p)) and adherence condition (p  S believes that p) (22). The problem with reliabilism is that due to the adherence condition, true beliefs can be said to lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarities Between English American And French Revolutions The future of a country is somewhat contrasted through distinguished moments in history, the English, American and French revolutions proved this theory by shaping the countries into the powerhouses they are today, all of which have some similarities in the general causes that lead to the countries rebelling and eventually creating a new political and social order. The first of the three, the English Great Rebellion was the result of the monarchy and its following fighting the wishes of parliament throughout the 1640 s. The cause originated from James I who believed in the divine right of kings, basically casting out the parliament involvement, even though the two were actually supposed to act as a balanced polity . This added hostility to the situation with parliament and also with Puritans, forcing thousands to relocate to the land of America.
