Erin Brockovich Axis Of Privilege
In social interactions, people often categorize one another, which in turn creates and reproduces
systems of privilege. Individuals holding power often retain the cycle of categorization to maintain
their privilege, but by doing so, cast outliers or people belonging to multiple groups at a disadvantage
as their multiple classifications may fall at different axis of privilege. Axis of privilege refers to the
concept that one classification can put an individual in a favorable or less than favorable position
depending on the dichotomy of the classification. For example, we acknowledge being black and
being a woman as two distinct categories that place individuals with a disadvantage in society, but we
never reconcile the doubled disadvantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an unemployed single mother of three with no education, life is already hard, but becomes even
more difficult when she becomes injured in a traffic accident, having to health insurance. Referred to
another law firm in her attempt to sue for compensation, Erin meets the lawyer, Ed Masry, who
reluctantly takes on her case as it is slam dunk in which she was at no fault. However, in cross
examination, the opposing attorney discredits Erin s reputation, using her unemployment and two
failed marriages against her. The opposing attorney attempts to blameshift the cause of the accident to
Erin as his client is a wealthy white male neurosurgeon who could not possibly be capable of driving
recklessly, and therefore Erin must have been responsible for the crash since she is a desperate woman
looking for a meal ticket. Erin loses her temper in light of these false allegations, especially since she
was a victim in the crash, and consequently, loses her case. Erin s loss exemplifies how
intersectionality along with the matrix of domination factor into every facet of our lives, including the
court system a system that supposedly achieves blind justice; but clearly, Erin s position as an
outspoken woman living in poverty, created a system of injustice in which she could not prevail.
Temporarily disabled from the accident with no money for food, a sick daughter, and cockroaches
roaming around her floor, Erin takes action and demands that Masry give her a position at his law
office as he reassured her beforehand that everything would be fine. Masry, taking pity on her
situation, gives her a job with no benefits and has very low expectations due to her temper and
unprofessional attire that exposes her assets. Within the office, Erin is also dismissed by her co
workers and becomes ostracized in such that the other women in the office exclude her

Grecian Identity Essay
Greece has been a central pinnacle of continuous change. Change that has been influenced by
numerous cultures, such as the Minoan culture. The sum of these cultural influences developed a
variety of Grecian identities, as well as different interpretations of government. However, these
identities were not a unified, collective identity of the people itself. The Greeks were once known as
something else: Achaean, Dorian, Ionian, Mycenaean, Theban, Athenian, and so forth. The
government was not representative of its people. Shifts in power and authority beset the political
atmosphere of Greece. With time, however, the people of Greece began to strive toward a collective
identity. The political environment began to solidify toward a populist ... Show more content on

However, glory can be easily lost, hence Hector s reluctance to leave the battle.
Arête did not discriminate between ethnicities; it was a universal goal. The quest for arête indicated
the priorities of the military, specifically the individuals, during this time. It was more important to
achieve glory than it was to win the war (winning the war was also preferable to many individuals).
Also, the achievement of arête influenced social status. The greater the goal, the more well known and
powerful the individual was. Many times, arête was achieved by the aristoi, or wealthy nobleman. The
aristoi could afford armor and could easily participate in battles. Because of this advantage, the best
dominated the sociopolitical environment.
Written during the Iron Age (1150 750 BCE), The Iliad occurs within the Bronze Age (3000 1150
BCE). In its writing, Homer reveals the conduct of Grecian cities and settlements toward one another
during the Bronze Age. Throughout the plot of the poem, both the Achaeans and the Trojans receive
support from allies, regardless of the reason for their altercation. Agamemnon, king of Mycenae,
supports and aids his brother Menelaus in his battle against the Trojans. Others agree to support and to
fight with Menelaus as well, such as Odysseus, king of Ithaca. Concurrently, Hector, a prince of Troy
and brother of Paris, agrees to fight for Paris. In both occurrences, the belief of allies is strongly
supported. For the Achaeans, their

Developing Global Cultural Competency
Organisational culture is shaped not only by technologies and markets, but also by the cultural
preferences of its leaders and employees. Each organisation have different fundamental about how they
operated base on their beliefs, values and activities.Culture is a key component in business which have
an impact on the strategic direction of the organisation that influences management, business
decisions and organisation functions such as meetings, negotiation and formalities. Therefore
organisational culture is related to behaviour, ethics, etiquette that included as an organisation s
values, hierarchical system, working style, beliefs and habits. The rising presence of globalisation have
led to a more global market which means that its mandatory for an international organisation to be
aware of cultural differences.Fons Trompenaars argued that there are universal dilemmas or problems
that every country and the organisations within that country faces ;relationships with people, time and
in relations between the individual and the natural environment. It just how different cultural nations
approach these dilemmas that at the end would lead to the same kind of response.
Developing global cultural competency is one of the most challenging aspects of working globally due
to managing different business operations and management styles that each have its own
organisational culture that differ from others. What is consider a viable management theory in one

Human Depictions In Ancient Art
In the ancient Near East, human depictions in art varied over time and distance; as noted by the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, The art of the ancient Near East exhibits a great variety of forms and
styles, reflecting the many peoples, cities, kingdoms, and empires that flourished in the region over
thousands of years . Early relief carvings often told stories in multiple registers, using human figures
that were much more detailed and lifelike than in prehistoric art. Statues were often placed in
Sumerian temples, such as stylized votive figures that adhered to a set of conventions; Gudea, ruler of
Lagash, later followed a similar tradition of placing votive statues of himself in temples. An Akkadian
lost wax casting, the earliest known example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A striking departure from traditional artisitic conventions is the Amarna style popularized under
Akhenaten. Artwork created during this period abandons the strong, regal style of the past and shows
Akhenaten as an almost cartoon like figure, with spindly limbs, a swelling belly, and a highly stylized
face. This anomalistic style persisted only as long as
Akhenaten s reign, however, and was abandoned shortly after his death (Stokstad and Cothren
72).
In the Ancient Aegean culture, the earliest examples of the human figure are found on the Cycladic
Islands. The people of these islands created marble statues ranging from a few inches to over five feet
tall. These statues were highly abstracted representations of the human form that are similar in their
simplicity and geometric form to some prehistoric art. These statues display their own set of artistic
conventions in their strict symmetry, basic forms, and proportional composition. Analysis of these
figures shows that they were decorated with

Kikkongo Word Nommo Essay
The Kikongo word nommo means makes things live as what they are: man or tree or animal and word
(Kingsolver 209). Adah explains that it s as if something isn t worth anything until it is named. Like a
life isn t anything until there is a name to it. It differentiates people. Therefore, it helps Adah
understand that she isn t the same as her twin sister, even if they are twins. They came from the same
mother, egg, and stomach. However, that doesn t make them the same. They re individual humans and
their names differentiate them. Adah also understands why her father is such an awful Christian
preacher for the people of Kilanga. Her dad tries preaching in their language, however, it s not really
their language. Nathan doesn t know what he is talking about and what words he is really saying so
what comes out of his mouth, makes little sense to the people of Kilanga or sounds wrong to them so
it makes his practice look bad and him look dumb. That s why no one in Kilanga really looks up to
what they re doing or what he s preaching because he isn t concentrating on letting the people of
Kilanga understand the differences of his words and their language. The people of Kilanga gave the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Software Virtualization (DHL)
Virtualization (DHL): Virtualization is a software technology that makes it possible to run multiple
operating systems and applications on the same server at the same time. It s transforming the IT
landscape and fundamentally changing the way that people utilize technology. Virtualization is the
single most effective way to reduce IT expenses while boosting efficiency and performance, not just
for large enterprises, but for small and midsize businesses too. (Mctigue, 2013) Virtualization
efficiencies How it create efficiencies Virtualization can reduce the number of physical systems we
need to acquire, and we can get more value out of the servers. Most traditionally built systems are
underutilized and Virtualization allows maximum use of the hardware investment. With virtualization,

that. Meanwhile there are few disadvantages also exist and should be considered. High risk in physical

is the pooling of multiple physical storage resources into single storage resource that is centrally

The Hellenic And Hellenistic Renaissance
The Hellenic and Hellenistic shift was a turning point for Greek culture. The Hellenic are those who
lived in ancient Greece before Alexander the Great. The Hellenistics are those who lived in the period
after Alexander the Great s conquest. Alexander the Great was a mighty and strong leader of the Greek
people. The people that were under his following respected him greatly. We can tell the drastic
changes that occurred after Alexander Great was leader by the art, philosophies, and religion. The
Hellenistic Changes that occurred showed us that the Hellenistic priorities transformed drastically
from what the Hellenic ways were like. The Hellenic and Hellenistic are greatly differentiated by the
art that they created. Their art work showed their own ideas of what the modern day person looked
like in their eyes. When looking at the Hellenic period of art we find that the Hellenic people
displayed what they thought a perfect human would look like. The Hellenic people thought the truth
was in the beauty of the person. The Hellenic display of art was what ideal beauty was to them. The
people in the art looked very healthy and muscular. In all reality the Hellenic people had less money
than the Hellenistic people put their artwork displayed their people in a rich and higher class way. The
textbook says, art in the Hellenistic Age declined noticeably from high standards of the preceding age
( World Civilizations, Chapter 9, Greek Humanism, page 112). This shows us that the

How Does Duckweed Grow
Duckweed (lemnaceae) is a plant the reproduces by duplicating itself. It s remarkable because it can
survive in extreme environments with temperate climates with the exception of frozen poles and dry
deserts, explains naturina.per.sg. It is a prime example of exponential growth because as
naturina.per.sg reports it can double in as a few as 2 days. This is possible because under ideal
conditions it has all the nutrients to spark growth. NPK Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium are
nutrients essential to the growth of plants. Duckweed holds the remarkable ability to clean a variety of
levels of polluted water. Research conducted by R A Leng in duckweed s potential for a high protein
resource explains that duckweed was able to remove contaminants

of a romantic action war movie. Throughout the movie American Sniper many different scenes had

Once the Great Depression hit America, families were put to test their own stability. The Great
Depression lasted from 1929 to 1939, and was considered the worst economic crisis in the history of
the industrialized world in America. The Depression began around the time after the stock market
crashed on October 1929, which wiped out millions of investors. During this time there was a severe
lacking in employment and by 1933, 15 million people were unemployed. The option of having a
family was strained since there were financial issues. In addition the divorce rate was also in decline
seeing as no one could acquire a job, because it was to expensive and by 1940 about 2 million married
couples were living apart and the few families who had adjusted to their current situation, many
husbands began to desert their families, children started to work part time jobs and women also began
to contribute by working in sewing, laundry, or even lodgers. When it seemed like the Depression

2. Determine whether each of these sets is finite, countably infinite, or uncountable. For those that are
countably infinite, exhibit a one to one correspondence between the set of positive integers and that
set.
a. The integers greater than 10.
This is countably infinite.
Starting from the first integer greater than 10, which is 11, one can infinitely count upwards since
there is no boundary on the right side of the number line for this instance.
The equation ƒ(x) = x + 11 can be used to show a one to one correspondence. x: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ...
ƒ(x): 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 ...

a. Integers not divisible by 3.
This set is countable.
The integers in the set are ±1, ±2, ±4, ±5, ±7, and so on.
We can list these numbers in the order 1, −1, 2, −2, 4, −4, 5, −5, 7, −7, ... , thereby establishing the
desired correspondence. x: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ...
ƒ(x): 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, ...
b. Integers divisible by 5 but not by 7.
This is countably infinite.
This is similar to part (a); we can simply list the elements of the set in order of increasing absolute
value, listing each positive term before its corresponding negative: (x): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9...
ƒ(x): 5, 5, 10, 10, 15, 15, 20, 20, 25, 25, 30, 30 40, 40, ...
c. The real numbers with decimal representations consisting of all 1s.
This set is countable but a little tricky.
We can arrange the numbers in a 2 dimensional table as follows:
Thus we have shown that our set is the countable union of countable sets (each of the countable sets is
one row of this table).
Therefore by Exercise 27, the entire set is countable.
For an explicit correspondence with the positive integers, we can zigzag along the positive sloping
diagonals as in Figure 3: 1↔ .1 , 2↔ 1.1 , 3↔.1, 4↔.11, 5↔1, and so on.
d. The real numbers with decimal representations of all 1s or 9s.
This set is not countable.
We can prove it by the same diagonalization argument as was used to prove that the set of all reals is
uncountable in Example 5.
All we need to do is choose di =

Successful American Students
After only seventeen years of living, students are sat down and told that they need to figure out what
they are going to do for the rest of their lives. If they are lucky they will not be one of the many kids
who falls through the cracks of the American education system. School has become far too stressful

learning disabilities, over pilling amounts of homework and tests, and large classroom sizes.
With thirty eight students are being taught by just one teacher there is only so much one on one time
available during class times. Kids are unpredictable, and kids need attention. In smaller classes, you
can give them the attention they need. You can allow them to express themselves and you don t have

The Invisible Man Analysis
The story The Invisible Man is written by Ralph Ellison. The author takes his personal experiences as
an ignored man and creates this character that shows the characteristics of a man whom few people
would stop to acknowledge. This story can be seen as a symbol of an educated black man whose life
has been controlled and oppressed by a white society. Throughout the story one will notice that the
man is nameless. The is because the narrator in The Invisible Man is invisible not only to others but
himself as well because of racism and trying to live up to expectations of others. There are certain
tools that are given to him by outsiders and things he will use that will ultimately develop him into
student and man. The author has written about events that made the invisible man who he was. It is
important to notice that the invisible man has been searching for his identity the whole time and will
later discover that his identity is in those things he has always had.
This story also uses appeal of pathetic to grab the reader s attention. Throughout the story the author,
Ralph Ellison, struggles to attempt to uncover the invisible man s identity that is buried beneath
oppression. It is important to understand that the invisible man is an African American male who sates
that he is only looked down on because of his skin color (Ellison). Ralph Ellison goes in detail by
showing us how lies can be seen as an obstacle to anyone s journey of finding himself and his true
identity. These obstacles are expressed in Ralph Ellison s usage of symbols and imagery portrays those
obstacles. The man is faced with these obstacles of deception in his ability to make his own life, but
instead is confined to live the life in white men s society. The purpose calls for action to the public to
open their eyes to realize that racism is a problem that will not go away; it is something that must be
forced to an end whereby men are willing to be themselves in the process.
In the story, the narrator has set out to search for his true identity, but this idea of why he is blind to
the world leads him to become blind in the process. I believe that it is important to focus on the
significance of the man s living situation. The invisible man lives

Genomic Structural Variants
Genomic structural variants (SVs), including deletions, duplications, inversions, and translocations of
genetic sequences, account for at least five times more variable base pairs than single nucleotide
variants among human genomes. However, traditional genome wide scans for adaptive evolution and
disease association tend to ignore thousands of complex structural variants because these scans rely
heavily on intact linkage disequilibrium blocks. This is because a majority of deletion polymorphisms
in the human genome is not in linkage with single nucleotide variants around it due to frequent gene
conversion events in this locus. Recent locus specific studies have investigated a handful of such
complex structural variants and have made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aim 1. Resolving the haplotype architecture of GHRd3 to determine its functional and evolutionary
impact: In our preliminary studies, we have now resolved the haplotype architecture using focused
analysis of thousands of genomes. This will allow us to thoroughly interrogate associations of
different GHR haplotypes with metabolic and developmental diseases, expression and methylation
and levels of neighboring genes in different tissues. In addition, using population genetics and model
based analysis of the newly resolved haplotypes will enable us to trace back the adaptive pressures
acting on the locus, shedding light on the evolutionary forces maintaining this deletion in the
population.
Aim 2. Determining the mechanisms through which GHRd3 affect cell function: Based on previous
studies, we hypothesize that GHRd3 leads to multiple downstream consequences in the growth
hormone pathway, including sensitization to growth hormone stimuli. We have now established
CRISPR Cas9 induced isogenic human cell lines with all three possible GHRd3 genotypes. Using this
experimental model, we will comparatively measure the impact of growth hormone treatment to rate
of cell division and to growth

Technology And Social Disconnection From Everyday Life
Not a wired culture, but a virtual cultural that is wired shut: compulsively fixated on digital
technology as a source of salvation from the reality of a lonely culture and radical social disconnection
from everyday life (Doheny Farina, 1996). The mobile telephone has been the most rapidly
disseminated piece of technology in world history. The first commercially available mobile devices
were available in the 1980 s, and since then have expanded exponentially. In 1994, Finland was the
world leader in terms of mobile subscribers with ten percent of the population being hooked on a
mobile contract (Wirzenius, n.d.). Over the past twenty years, these numbers have increased beyond
one s imagination. As of January 2014, ninety percent of American adults own a cell phone and over
half of those own a smartphone (Pew Research Center s Internet American Life Project, 2014). These
numbers will only increase with time as in a survey conducted by Pew Internet (2014) ninety eight
percent of adults between the ages of eighteen to twenty nine own mobile devices with numbers
decreasing slightly as the population aged. As our culture begins to shift more into the digital
revolution age we find ourselves losing vital communication skills in person to person contact. The

War Stories
Tim O Brien got his inspiration from multiple instances of his time served in Vietnam. O Brien was

looking forward to a different future. Like many others, he received a draft noticed on June 17th,
1968. He felt he was too good to go to war and tried to get out of being drafted with no luck. This
angered him greatly. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the 3rd Platoon, A CO. 5th
Battalion, 46th Infantry, as a foot soldier. His tour of duty was from 1969 to 1970. The unit he was in
deployed in with went to a part of Vietnam that they called Pinkville . His time in Vietnam gave him,
along with others, many stories to tell.
The Vietnam War was the longest conflict America has been involved in. The main reason for U.S.
involvement in Vietnam was to help stop the spread of communism. The theory at the time was the
Domino Effect which predicted that if Vietnam fell to communist control that all of Asia would. ...

The Indian Act and Its Effect on Modern Society
The Indian Act and its Effect on Modern Society The Indian Act is one of the most outdated and
irrelevant pieces of legislature ever written. In 1876, the Crown consolidated all existing laws
pertaining to Indians, and called this new document the Indian Act. They did not solicit input from
Aboriginal people and in fact, at that time, Aboriginal people were not even allowed to vote for or
against the politicians who were creating this Act. If this Act was written in 1876, what effect could it
possibly have on anyone today? The answer to this is complex and requires an analysis of what is
contained within the Act.
Many Aboriginal people have lost all they had and have been disadvantaged because of the Indian Act
and the theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, the police and the courts were usually unable and/or unwilling to accommodate
Indian values and concepts of justice. The fifth section of the Indian Act was an attack on traditional
Aboriginal culture. Canadian governments maintained that they needed to protect Indians from their
own culture. Traditional dances, customs, and celebrations were prohibited. This included traditional
Indian costumes. The sixth and seventh sections of the Indian Act covered recreation. The first of
these outlined that it was an offense for Aboriginals to be intoxicated. It was also an offense to sell
liquor to an Aboriginal. In cases where Aboriginals were able to get alcohol, it was a further offense to
fail to disclose the name of the person that had sold them the alcohol. Alcohol was used to bribe
Aboriginal people who felt confused because of the Indian Act. Drinking was one of the ways they
could escape. The second section regarding recreation was called the poolroom prohibition. This gave
the superintendent of Indian affairs the power to regulate pool rooms, dance halls, and other places of
amusement on reserves to ensure Indians would learn industriousness and would not spend too much
time in leisure pursuits that were available to non Indians at their own discretion. The eighth section
dealt with agricultural products – specifically the government s idea that

Compare And Contrast Reagan And Gorbachev
Reagan s foreign policy made interacting with the Soviet Union easier. The purpose to the foreign
policy is to ensure the safety and security of the United States. The foreign policy also promotes world
peace; without the foreign policy everything would be chaotic. The foreign policy confirms that
together we are maintaining a balance of power amongst nations. There were many Soviet Union
leaders but one that really stood out was Mikhail Gorbachev, an energetic 54 year old, Andropov s
apprentice with a new and interesting mind who recognized that the Soviet economy could not survive
without serious good changes. He also hoped for better superpower relations. Superpower relations

Mikhail Gorbachev believed a less irritating Soviet American relationship would permit a change of
money and valuable supplies away from the Soviet military toward the suffering economy. In
November 1985, Reagan and Gorbachev met for the first time in Geneva; they held added/more
summits in each of Ronald Reagans years in presidency. Reagan and Gorbachev argued freely but also
developed a mutual relationship that had its advantages. In December 1988, at the very end of Reagan
s presidency, Gorbachev announced in an address to the United Nations in Washington that he would
unilaterally reduce Soviet military forces in Eastern Europe by 500,000 soldiers and 10,000 tanks over
the next two years. Reagans association with Mikhail Gorbachev made it less demanding for both the
Soviet Union and the United States to put a conclusion to the Cold war. Regan endeavored getting on
the Soviet Union s good side, so he can crumple the Soviets without them even knowing. Early in
President Reagan s second term, a reform minded pioneer, Mikhail Gorbachev, accepted power in the
Soviet Union. Like past presidents, Ronald Reagan decided to meet the new Soviet

In this expository article. America s lethal affair with the gun , dated Februrary 6th, 2006, Micheal
Gawenda contend s that America needs to be stricter on gun control laws. Gawenda, from The Age ,
writes the article with tones of dissension and assetiveness, but in a calm controlled way of approach.
The intended audience of the article are the readers of The Age, as that is the source.
Gawenda firmly believes that gun control laws in America are not strict enough, to persuade his
readers, he uses a variety of persuasive devices, some used repetitively throughout the article. One
persuasive device majority of the expository, was statistics. Throughout most paragraphs, the text

Gawenda liked to include humour in his article, so besides having irony, he also had analogy. This was

this provokes the readers to have an angry response. It giving them an example of just how much
stricter laws are needed, if this is the comparison given getting a library card. Readers become irate to
hear the fact that most people can get hold of a gun. There were also appeals to readers involved in the
article, including appeal to consequence, appeal to fear/security, appeal to humanity and appeal to
paternalism. Gawenda cunningly adds each in the right times. Appeal to consequence is used in
reflection of the whole article, it is the Gawenda implying that if the laws in America for gun control
are not made stricter, it will affect you and those around you, that people are dying everyday anf that it

Portends of Ill-Gotten Plans in Coleridge s Kubla Khan ...
Portends of ill gotten plans Samuel Taylor Coleridge is widely regarded as one of the most prominent
English poets and, with William Wordsworth, helped to found the Romantic Movement. Among two
of his most well known poetic works are Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Kubla
Khan s notoriety is partly due to the fact that the poem was written while Coleridge was under the
influence of opium. The drug s influence on Coleridge is apparent in the poem s style, which not only
gives insight into Coleridge s state of mind, but also gives the poem an overall dreamlike quality. The
Rime of the Ancient Mariner is also said to have been written while Coleridge was under the influence
of opium. Like Kubla Khan, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner also contains many elements that give
the poem a dreamlike feel. There are several overarching themes that are encompassed by the poems
Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner including supernatural phenomena, conflict, and
prophecy. In writing Kubla Khan, Coleridge was influenced by Sir William Jones s A Hymn to Ganga,
referencing the work in his notebooks and in a letter that was written to John Thelwall (Cannon 137).
Kubla Khan echoes Jones s work; for instance, Kubla Khan s Ancestral voices prophesying war!
echoes Jones s bards his wars and truth proclaim with an additional echo seen in Kubla Khan s A
mighty fountain momently was forced echoing from a fiery cave the bubbly crystal flows (Coleridge

Guns Should Not Be Infringed Essay
Will not be Infringed or Do Not Tread on Me On the 15th of December, 1791, the second amendment
was adopted along with 9 other amendments alongside it. A well regulated militia, being necessary to
the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. When
the founding fathers wrote this statement, it was a written as a command, stating the right of the
people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. When the founding fathers wrote this, they
meant it in a sense so that the people can keep their government from becoming tyrannical such as
King George did. Without the amendment, the government could walk all over the people without
resistance. 27th of March, 2017, 23 year old Zach Peters responded to his home being broken into,

They are pushing this agenda in the name of safety, but in reality, this is leaving thousands of people
without a means of self defense. I understand the need to protect lives, but more guns in the hands of
law abiding citizens will result in more lives saved. When politicians pass these laws, they must also
realize criminals don t follow the same laws as law abiding citizens. If a person means to do harm,
they will figure out how do carry it out, whether it is against the law or completely legal. Take a look
at Great Britain, they don t allow their citizens to own firearms, but there are still killings. People strap
explosives to themselves, run and slash people with a knife or even plow their car into crowds of
people. If a person had a firearm, the driver couldn t possibly hurt as many people as he intended to.

Appropriate Perception Essay
Dorcas Nzoigba Essay 2 Perception occurs in three different areas located in the brain. These three
streams are covered by the cerebral cortex. The dorsal stream which is also known as the how

fissure in the occipital lobe and travels all the way into the parietal lobe. The dorsal stream is
responsible for controlling your movements, mindfulness of spatial layout, recognizing object
locations and unique motion. Then there is the area that is referred to as the what pathway which is

This condition results after damage to the ventral stream but the dorsal is still intact. Visual agnosia is
separated into two categories known as imperceptive agnosia which is the failure of object recognition
even when the basic visual functions and language is normal. The second category is known as
associative agnosia which results in the failure to identify objects with apparent perception knowledge
of them. There are two types of associative agnosia: prosopagnosia which is to the inability to
recognize nor interpret faces. Simultagnosia is the inability to sort or perceive more than one object at
a time. Kluver Bucy Syndrome includes symptoms such as visual agnosia, hyper sexuality, amnesia,

INTRODUCTION Effective Communication is significant for managers in the organizations so as to
perform the basic functions of management, i.e., Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling.
Communication helps managers to perform their jobs and responsibilities. Communication serves as a
foundation for planning. All the essential information must be communicated to the managers who in
turn must communicate the plans so as to implement them. Organizing also requires effective
communication with others about their job task. Similarly leaders as managers must communicate
effectively with their subordinates so as to achieve the team goals. Controlling is not possible without

Any change in plans might be communicated with the employees in advance so that resistance may
not come from them. Communication helps the organization in this regard by supplying information to
the employee. CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATIONS: Segmented: Even in small
organizations, it is wrong to assume that all employees will have the same needs, interests and desires
when it comes to business communication. Effective business communication is segmented to meet
the needs of specific audiences. Employees working in an administrative setting, for instance, will
have different needs and different access to information than employees working in a manufacturing
environment. Specific: Generic business communication doesn t meet the needs of anyone. Effective
business communication is specific. The more specific communication is, the more it meets the needs
of its audience. Accurate: When information is inaccurate it loses its credibility. The sender of the
information also loses credibility. Effective business communication is accurate in terms of the content
conveyed and in terms of simple things that include grammar, spelling and punctuation. Timely:
Employees need to know what is going on in their organizations and in the external environment that
impacts them. Today s technology driven environment makes it more challenging than ever before for
businesses to communicate with employees in a timely manner,

Comparison Of Mountains Of Collioure By Andre Derain
What I initially noticed when looking at the landscape painting Mountains of Collioure(1908), by
Andre Derain was that the brushstroke is like of the impressionists, in which the strokes are short and
thin, as well as seldom use of the color black. It is also highly contrasted in color, with many hues of
various colors. I also notice that if it were painted by a kid it makes sense that the painting s colors
would not match the natural colors of the actual subject matter within the painting. The mountains are
off colored from the natural color using different tones and shades of orange and blue, while the trees
are somewhat natural, with the use of darkened orange, and intermediate hues such as blue
green, yellow green, and others. Also notice

Edgar Allan Poe
The amazing, the people who inspire, who make people feel something with words on paper, authors.
Authors have a special ability to create a separate world, but a great author lets us into their world and
makes us feel something when we read their work. From all of the research Colton Coverston has
done, he has come to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe should be in the top fifth American Authors
on a top twenty greatest American author list. Edgar Allan Poe has written many pieces of writing,
until he was fifteen. He was born to write. Edgar Allan Poe is a great author, because he wrote about
profound things, and people are continually reading and enjoying them. Edgar Allan Poe was born on
January 19th, 1809. He died when he was only forty years old on December 7th, 1849 from suicide.
Nobody knows why he killed himself, but many people believe that his life influenced his scary

Relationship Between Child Relationships In The Kite Runner
Family is the most important factor in a child s development. Each child should grow up surrounded
by people who show them unconditional love, for if this is not the situation, it could warp the child s
perceptions and relationships for the rest of their life. Therefore, it is important for parents to connect
with their children, and to help develop a strong relationship at a young age. Sometimes it is not as
easy for a parent to bond with a child as some people may believe, and a great example of this struggle
is shown in the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, through the relationship between Baba
and Amir. Their relationship is rocky from the beginning with little interests connecting the two, but
when the times get tough these two prove that no matter the differences between father and son,
nothing can break the bond of blood. Some people excel at testing the boundaries that society puts on
them and using those as motivation to succeed, and one of these people is Baba. He is a self made man
who tested the limits and became a tremendously successful entrepreneur. This success in business
took up most of Baba s time and made it difficult to give all the love to Amir that he needed at a young
age. However, he was still a good father, he may have not given Amir all the time he needed, but he
was still there enough to make an impact on his life. Amir always strived to gain his father s attention,
and wanted to do anything to obtain the attention and approval of his

  • 2. Erin Brockovich Axis Of Privilege In social interactions, people often categorize one another, which in turn creates and reproduces systems of privilege. Individuals holding power often retain the cycle of categorization to maintain their privilege, but by doing so, cast outliers or people belonging to multiple groups at a disadvantage as their multiple classifications may fall at different axis of privilege. Axis of privilege refers to the concept that one classification can put an individual in a favorable or less than favorable position depending on the dichotomy of the classification. For example, we acknowledge being black and being a woman as two distinct categories that place individuals with a disadvantage in society, but we never reconcile the doubled disadvantages ... As an unemployed single mother of three with no education, life is already hard, but becomes even more difficult when she becomes injured in a traffic accident, having to health insurance. Referred to another law firm in her attempt to sue for compensation, Erin meets the lawyer, Ed Masry, who reluctantly takes on her case as it is slam dunk in which she was at no fault. However, in cross examination, the opposing attorney discredits Erin s reputation, using her unemployment and two failed marriages against her. The opposing attorney attempts to blameshift the cause of the accident to Erin as his client is a wealthy white male neurosurgeon who could not possibly be capable of driving recklessly, and therefore Erin must have been responsible for the crash since she is a desperate woman looking for a meal ticket. Erin loses her temper in light of these false allegations, especially since she was a victim in the crash, and consequently, loses her case. Erin s loss exemplifies how intersectionality along with the matrix of domination factor into every facet of our lives, including the court system a system that supposedly achieves blind justice; but clearly, Erin s position as an outspoken woman living in poverty, created a system of injustice in which she could not prevail. Temporarily disabled from the accident with no money for food, a sick daughter, and cockroaches roaming around her floor, Erin takes action and demands that Masry give her a position at his law office as he reassured her beforehand that everything would be fine. Masry, taking pity on her situation, gives her a job with no benefits and has very low expectations due to her temper and unprofessional attire that exposes her assets. Within the office, Erin is also dismissed by her co workers and becomes ostracized in such that the other women in the office exclude her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Grecian Identity Essay Greece has been a central pinnacle of continuous change. Change that has been influenced by numerous cultures, such as the Minoan culture. The sum of these cultural influences developed a variety of Grecian identities, as well as different interpretations of government. However, these identities were not a unified, collective identity of the people itself. The Greeks were once known as something else: Achaean, Dorian, Ionian, Mycenaean, Theban, Athenian, and so forth. The government was not representative of its people. Shifts in power and authority beset the political atmosphere of Greece. With time, however, the people of Greece began to strive toward a collective identity. The political environment began to solidify toward a populist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, glory can be easily lost, hence Hector s reluctance to leave the battle. Arête did not discriminate between ethnicities; it was a universal goal. The quest for arête indicated the priorities of the military, specifically the individuals, during this time. It was more important to achieve glory than it was to win the war (winning the war was also preferable to many individuals). Also, the achievement of arête influenced social status. The greater the goal, the more well known and powerful the individual was. Many times, arête was achieved by the aristoi, or wealthy nobleman. The aristoi could afford armor and could easily participate in battles. Because of this advantage, the best dominated the sociopolitical environment. Written during the Iron Age (1150 750 BCE), The Iliad occurs within the Bronze Age (3000 1150 BCE). In its writing, Homer reveals the conduct of Grecian cities and settlements toward one another during the Bronze Age. Throughout the plot of the poem, both the Achaeans and the Trojans receive support from allies, regardless of the reason for their altercation. Agamemnon, king of Mycenae, supports and aids his brother Menelaus in his battle against the Trojans. Others agree to support and to fight with Menelaus as well, such as Odysseus, king of Ithaca. Concurrently, Hector, a prince of Troy and brother of Paris, agrees to fight for Paris. In both occurrences, the belief of allies is strongly supported. For the Achaeans, their ... • 5. Human Depictions In Ancient Art In the ancient Near East, human depictions in art varied over time and distance; as noted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The art of the ancient Near East exhibits a great variety of forms and styles, reflecting the many peoples, cities, kingdoms, and empires that flourished in the region over thousands of years . Early relief carvings often told stories in multiple registers, using human figures that were much more detailed and lifelike than in prehistoric art. Statues were often placed in Sumerian temples, such as stylized votive figures that adhered to a set of conventions; Gudea, ruler of Lagash, later followed a similar tradition of placing votive statues of himself in temples. A striking departure from traditional artisitic conventions is the Amarna style popularized under Akhenaten. Artwork created during this period abandons the strong, regal style of the past and shows Akhenaten as an almost cartoon like figure, with spindly limbs, a swelling belly, and a highly stylized face. This anomalistic style persisted only as long as Akhenaten s reign, however, and was abandoned shortly after his death (Stokstad and Cothren 72). In the Ancient Aegean culture, the earliest examples of the human figure are found on the Cycladic Islands. The people of these islands created marble statues ranging from a few inches to over five feet tall. These statues were highly abstracted representations of the human form that are similar in their simplicity and geometric form to some prehistoric art. These statues display their own set of artistic conventions in their strict symmetry, basic forms, and proportional composition. Adah explains that it s as if something isn t worth anything until it is named. Like a life isn t anything until there is a name to it. It differentiates people. Therefore, it helps Adah understand that she isn t the same as her twin sister, even if they are twins. They came from the same mother, egg, and stomach. However, that doesn t make them the same. They re individual humans and their names differentiate them. Adah also understands why her father is such an awful Christian preacher for the people of Kilanga. Her dad tries preaching in their language, however, it s not really their language. Nathan doesn t know what he is talking about and what words he is really saying so what comes out of his mouth, makes little sense to the people of Kilanga or sounds wrong to them so it makes his practice look bad and him look dumb. That s why no one in Kilanga really looks up to what they re doing or what he s preaching because he isn t concentrating on letting the people of Kilanga understand the differences of his words and their language. The Hellenic are those who lived in ancient Greece before Alexander the Great. The Hellenistics are those who lived in the period after Alexander the Great s conquest. Alexander the Great was a mighty and strong leader of the Greek people. The people that were under his following respected him greatly. The Hellenic and Hellenistic are greatly differentiated by the art that they created. Their art work showed their own ideas of what the modern day person looked like in their eyes. When looking at the Hellenic period of art we find that the Hellenic people displayed what they thought a perfect human would look like. The Hellenic people thought the truth was in the beauty of the person. The Hellenic display of art was what ideal beauty was to them. The people in the art looked very healthy and muscular. In all reality the Hellenic people had less money than the Hellenistic people put their artwork displayed their people in a rich and higher class way. For those that are countably infinite, exhibit a one to one correspondence between the set of positive integers and that set. a. The integers greater than 10. This is countably infinite. Starting from the first integer greater than 10, which is 11, one can infinitely count upwards since there is no boundary on the right side of the number line for this instance. • 17. The Invisible Man Analysis The story The Invisible Man is written by Ralph Ellison. The author takes his personal experiences as an ignored man and creates this character that shows the characteristics of a man whom few people would stop to acknowledge. This story can be seen as a symbol of an educated black man whose life has been controlled and oppressed by a white society. Throughout the story one will notice that the man is nameless. The is because the narrator in The Invisible Man is invisible not only to others but himself as well because of racism and trying to live up to expectations of others. There are certain tools that are given to him by outsiders and things he will use that will ultimately develop him into student and man. The author has written about events that made the invisible man who he was. It is important to notice that the invisible man has been searching for his identity the whole time and will later discover that his identity is in those things he has always had. This story also uses appeal of pathetic to grab the reader s attention. Throughout the story the author, Ralph Ellison, struggles to attempt to uncover the invisible man s identity that is buried beneath oppression. It is important to understand that the invisible man is an African American male who sates that he is only looked down on because of his skin color (Ellison). Ralph Ellison goes in detail by showing us how lies can be seen as an obstacle to anyone s journey of finding himself and his true identity. These obstacles are expressed in Ralph Ellison s usage of symbols and imagery portrays those obstacles. The man is faced with these obstacles of deception in his ability to make his own life, but instead is confined to live the life in white men s society. The purpose calls for action to the public to open their eyes to realize that racism is a problem that will not go away; it is something that must be forced to an end whereby men are willing to be themselves in the process. In the story, the narrator has set out to search for his true identity, but this idea of why he is blind to the world leads him to become blind in the process. However, traditional genome wide scans for adaptive evolution and disease association tend to ignore thousands of complex structural variants because these scans rely heavily on intact linkage disequilibrium blocks. This is because a majority of deletion polymorphisms in the human genome is not in linkage with single nucleotide variants around it due to frequent gene conversion events in this locus. In addition, using population genetics and model based analysis of the newly resolved haplotypes will enable us to trace back the adaptive pressures acting on the locus, shedding light on the evolutionary forces maintaining this deletion in the population. Portends of ill gotten plans Samuel Taylor Coleridge is widely regarded as one of the most prominent English poets and, with William Wordsworth, helped to found the Romantic Movement. Among two of his most well known poetic works are Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Kubla Khan s notoriety is partly due to the fact that the poem was written while Coleridge was under the influence of opium. The drug s influence on Coleridge is apparent in the poem s style, which not only gives insight into Coleridge s state of mind, but also gives the poem an overall dreamlike quality. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is also said to have been written while Coleridge was under the influence of opium. Like Kubla Khan, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner also contains many elements that give the poem a dreamlike feel. There are several overarching themes that are encompassed by the poems Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner including supernatural phenomena, conflict, and prophecy. • 36. Relationship Between Child Relationships In The Kite Runner Family is the most important factor in a child s development. Each child should grow up surrounded by people who show them unconditional love, for if this is not the situation, it could warp the child s perceptions and relationships for the rest of their life. Therefore, it is important for parents to connect with their children, and to help develop a strong relationship at a young age. Sometimes it is not as easy for a parent to bond with a child as some people may believe, and a great example of this struggle is shown in the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, through the relationship between Baba and Amir. Their relationship is rocky from the beginning with little interests connecting the two, but when the times get tough these two prove that no matter the differences between father and son, nothing can break the bond of blood. Some people excel at testing the boundaries that society puts on them and using those as motivation to succeed, and one of these people is Baba. He is a self made man who tested the limits and became a tremendously successful entrepreneur. This success in business took up most of Baba s time and made it difficult to give all the love to Amir that he needed at a young age. However, he was still a good father, he may have not given Amir all the time he needed, but he was still there enough to make an impact on his life. Amir always strived to gain his father s attention, and wanted to do anything to obtain the attention and approval of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
