The Emergence Of The National Curriculum For England
In this assignment, I will be discussing the emergence of the National Curriculum for England, and
how reforms have led to its evolution into the present framework. I will also be looking at current
theories of teaching and learning, and how the National Curriculum 2014 for science reflects these.
I will consider how the curriculum document structures how teachers should teach, and also what
types of learning theories and teaching approaches might support the teacher in delivering the
curriculum.
The first part of this assignment will focus on the English Curriculum for primary education.
England has not always had a National Curriculum. Even after the Education Act of 1944, which
introduced a tripartite system of free schooling for all children, there were no statutory
requirements for schools other than the inclusion of religious education. In 1953, the first non
selective school opened and changes began to be made with the intention of modernising the
primary and secondary school curricula (Arthur and Cremin, p.284). The Plowden Report of 1967
argued for a primary school curriculum that would allow children to live happily and usefully ,
stressing the importance of other skills besides those of reading, writing and arithmetic (Plowden,
p186).
However, The shift to more progressive ideas of a child centred curriculum led to accusations of a
decline in educational standards, leading to a turning point in modern educational history (Davis
2002 p275), the William

Christian History And The Holy Spirit Essay
Christian history is active and alive as the Holy Spirit works in and amongst the community of
Christians who comprise the Church. Similar to the recording of history in the first century by
Luke in the Acts of the Apostles, Christian history is still being written today. Specifically, as
Evangelical Christians, we write the story of history each day as we work to fulfill the Great
Commission (Matthew 28:16 20) through application of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22: 37
40). As such, we soon realize that we are not casual observers or bystanders of history, but actual
participants. In other words, we have a responsibility to both understand and interpret the past and
then apply the faith we hold amongst the generation and peoples of the here and now.
As we obediently apply God s word to, go therefore and make disciples of all nations and to love
God and to love your neighbor as yourself, we should awaken to the key terms of all nations and
your neighbor. It is with this realization that our neighbors, in the communities in which we live,
literally represent the nations of the world. In other words, in the modern world in which we live,
changes in demographics, world events, and movements of people have literally brought the
nations of the world to our front door. As such, we have a great opportunity to open these doors,
which turn opens the door to the gospel to the nations of the world.

The Obstacle Of Organizing Government
The obstacle of organizing government around the environment is that, for the most part, society is
too focused on economic growth for the environment to take a precedent. And, as Leopold notes,
land...is still property (Leopold 218). The environment, or for Leopold the land, is not a global
citizen in it of itself. Rather, the land is merely a tool for the continued economic growth. Since
land has limited legal rights, Leopold sees that humans see no harm in exploiting the environment
for capital gain. As such, granting the environment legal protection would, as Leopold saw it, be a
better means of conservation efforts.
Leopold described a system of ethics that, when applied appropriately, apply to both man and land.
Despite defining an ethic as both a limitation on freedom off action in the struggle for existence
and a differentiation of social from anti social conduct, Leopold saw little difference between an
ethological the former and the philosophical the latter definitions of an ethic (Leopold 217 218).
Both definitions create a sense of cooperation between individuals. However, the issue for the
human land relation is that, currently, ethics is not being applied. The land relation is still strictly
economic, entailing privileges but not obligations (Leopold 218). As Leopold saw it, mankind
understands the need for the natural world, so there exists a limited sense of respect. However,
unlike the ethics shared between human beings, the rights of land are not

Why Are We Safe In Schools Essay
3. How to Make Schools Safe
To begin with, the first thing I will do to make schools safer is to install key card locks and metal
detectors in every entrance. The reason why I want key card locks is because only faculty and
students would have special key cards that would let them into the building and people without the
key cards could not enter the building. This prevents any unauthorized personal to enter the
building and endanger the faculty and students. The reason why schools need metal sectors is to
make sure faculty or students are not carrying a dangerous weapon with them. Also, the schools
should bring in a Police Officer so the kids can be educated by a person who knows about safety
and protection. This will give students a better knowledge of gun safely. Another, idea is to have a
gun drive in the local community. The reason why we should have a gun drive so people could
trade in their guns for money. The reason why this is important is because young kids are curious
and adventures. They can find anything in the house even if the parent puts stuff in a safe place. I
guarantee kids will find items even though parents thought the area was a safe place. Kids will
find items like guns because they think it looks cool and will bring them to school to show their
friends. Then a kid will be injured or killed because they were playing with the weapon during
recess or gym. Therefore, a gun drive would eliminate guns from homes because parents can not
watch their kids

The Ink Bridge Character Analysis
Hec and Omed had a withdrawal from the world both spiritually and mentally, which ironically
assisted them in bonding with each other resulting in an inspirational journey towards faith and
joy. In the novel The Ink Bridge by Neil Grant, Grant explores Hec and Omed s withdrawal from
the world but how they ironically be able to connect with each other and have a shared journey

displays Hec and Omed s disconnection through silence. Hec s is mentally withdrawing from the
world while Omed s is being spiritually removed from his country and family. Hec s mental
disconnection is caused by his mother s death which had caused him great emotional trauma. Hec

The Goodyear And The Tire Industry
The Goodyear name has been one of the most recognized brands in the tire industry around the
world. They are known for having a superior quality product through the price and positions they
have chosen. Their slogan, The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them, (Kerin,
2005) provides their customers with a high class message and creates an importance for them to
preserve the accessibility of their high value brands. Unfortunately, consumers have become more
price conscious about their tirepurchases and less focused on loyalty to a specific brand. They
experienced a 3.2% decline in the market share for the tires associated with passenger car
replacement (Kerin, 2005). Because of this change, Goodyear has seen a drop in their sales.
With already 2 million Goodyear brand tires, which have been worn out, being replaced at 850
Sears Auto Center locations annually, Goodyear reopened previous discussions with Sears to
possibly sell their Eagle brand tires or all Goodyear tire brands through them. Choosing to do so
could create great benefits for the company but could also generate turmoil within their franchises
and other retail chains where their brands are sold. Before making the final decision, they must
determine how this move will affect their franchisees, are they willing to significantly change their
distribution policy, what brands Goodyear will allow to be retailed through the Sears network, and
how cannibalization of their brands sold via other

Shamanism Research Paper
Shamanism
To truly understand the meaning of shamanism one must uncover the original definition. The word
shaman comes from the language of the Evenk, a small Tungus speaking group of hunters and
reindeer herders from Siberia. It was first used only to designate a religious specialist from this
region. By the beginning of the 20th century it was already being applied to a variety of North
America and South American practices from the present and the past. Today people have gone as
far as defining the word shaman as any human that acknowledges that he/she has had contact with
spiritual entities. Well at least the term still refers to human beings.
The Siberian shaman s soul is said to be able to leave the body and travel to other ... Show more

The fact is that well philosophers can speculate, even by the vaguest definition of shamanism they
can not prove that these individuals were taking part in these trance like states without written or
physical proof.
Due to the theory of shamanism being introduced into the Mesoamerican culture because of the
writings of Eliade and Furst, it seems only fair to look carefully at the relevance to their
interpretations. Eliade had originally acknowledged the oddity concerning the concept of
shamanism and, in turn, took it into his own hands to create a version this concept himself. (Klein,
pg. 388) I can not reasonable enter into the idea of this model that he has created. He clearly
explains the existence of shamanism in Siberia and inner Asia, in which there has been,
documented proof. The idea that because this is happening there does not prove that it was
happening over 2000 years ago across the world. He fails to connect the two areas, in time and
place, feasible. It is extremely interesting that only Eliade s point of view is found in the
Encyclopedia of Religion. (Eliade 201 208)
Despite Furst s attempt to redefine shamanism in terms of specific American religious beliefs and
practices, the new criteria he provided have proved to be as unreliable as Eliade s. It repeatedly
insists that the concepts of the universe divided horizontally into an upper world, a terrestrial
middle world, and an underworld in the sense that

Marxist Reading Of The Rainbow Fish
In a world of instant gratification and endless options of items that are always up for purchase, it
is easy to engage in the hype. These material items that society puts such a high value on create
separations of wealth amongst the people, in turn creating the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. In
a nutshell, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister is a story about a fish with many beautiful
scales who refuses to give any of them to the less fortunate fish. Though at a first glance, The
Rainbow Fish seems to simply be a children s lesson on the importance of sharing. But, at a closer
look this story reveals that is in fact a criticism on society enveloping itself in the Marxist theory.

He puts an extremely high value on his possessions. In turn, because of this high value, these
possessions determine his self worth. An example of this commodification shows in the story
where all of the other fish begin to ignore Rainbow Fish because he refuses to share. In the text,
it states, What good were the dazzling, shimmering scales with no one to admire them? Now he
was the loneliest fish in the entire ocean (Pfister 10). Commodification is prevalent as Rainbow
Fish selfishly only focuses on himself. He does not want the scales for their usefulness, he only
wants them when other fish are there to admire them. Rainbow Fish only wants the scales if they
give him a higher social status. If no one is there to compliment him, then the scales mean
nothing to him. Additionally, Rainbow Fish exhibits commodification when he thinks about
giving away his scales. Rainbow Fish states, Give away my scales? My beautiful shining scales?
Never. How could I ever be happy without them (Pfister 16). Rainbow Fish allows material items
to impact his life so greatly that they determine his happiness. Rainbow Fish is so commodified
that even the thought of giving away his scales triggers unhappiness and worry. Rather than basing
happiness off of good works and personality, he bases it off of how much material he has. He
infatuates so much with himself that he fails to recognize that the scaleless proletarians are content.
Rainbow Fish fears changes from the lifestyle he is accustomed to, in turn reflecting on the
materialistic values held by the bourgeoisie. The material things in Rainbow Fish s life have total

Wuhan, where I grew up, is famous not only of its historical sites, like Yellow Crane Tower and

Causes Of Gun Violence In America
What is the problem? Throughout the years, the United States has experienced many different
societal problems. All of the problems have the same dilemma being no one can agree on what the
actual cause of these problems are so they don t know where to begin on fixing them. Some of these
problems include equality between men and women, environmental protection, political freedoms
and so many more things. A very big issue right now is the amount of gunviolence that takes place
in our Country every day. It may sound too obvious that the cause of violence is the lack of control
on guns, but it is actually much more extensive and the cause has many parts to it.
Gun violence has always been an issue in the United States. The public started to notice the
problem in 2007 when there was one of the most known school shootings at Virginia Tech.
Caitlin Hammaren was just a normal sophomore at Virginia Tech and on April 16, 2007 what
seemed as just a normal day of class her life had been taken away from her (Why gun control is
important) After that, it again became a hot topic in 2012, when there was another school
shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school. This shooting seemed to really hit a lot of people

Navy s Anti-Piracy Operations
Anti Piracy Operations
Did you know that the Navy has combated piracy for more than 200 years? Senior Enlisted
Leaders should understand the importance of the Navy s mission on anti piracy in the Horn of
Africa because it is integral to linking the strategies of centuries past to our current operations of
combating crime on the high seas. This paper will cover the history, evolution, and effects of the
United States (U.S) Navy s anti piracy policy and operations in the Horn of Africa.
History
In the day of fighting sail, piracy was considered as one of the easiest ways to defect from poor
living conditions and mistreatment while in service with the Royal Navy. Pirates threaten regional

Understanding Thermal or Solar Heat Gain Coefficients
In order to understand the word thermal within a building, then SHGC which is solar heat gain
coefficients had to be known to known the property of thermal insulation and conductivity in a
whole manner. Solar heat gain coefficient is widely use in the United State in designing building.
SHGC may refer to the transmittance of solar energyof windows or even walls, every object can be
evaluate by using solar heatgain coefficient method by knowing the properties of each material.
If a material have high solar heat gain coefficient, then the material is a good absorbent of solar
heat. For material that is black in colour, inevitably it absorb heat faster because of the colour
doesn t reflect the wavelength that comes directly from the source of light. So, low e components
of a building that comes with low solar heat gain coefficient will reflect and keep heat source that
came from sunaway from the house and that will probably makes a house cooler. Solar heat gain
coefficient usually dealt with windows that possess a low e property. Low e may regard to the
emissivity of one s material. Nowadays window mostly is transparent, and that makes it vulnerable
for sunlight to penetrate easily into a house without any reflection. We have to be notice that if a
window is place facing the unsuitable direction such as west or east, it will have an adverse effect
towards the thermal comfort of a house especially terraced house in Malaysia that cant undergoes

Paul s Behavior At School Case Study
Paul s behavior at school comes under reproach when his teachers ostensibly organize an
interrogation. Paul confidently answers his teachers criticisms for his demeanor, disdain for their
efforts, and even how he chooses to adorn his outfit with a red carnation, and is eventually
released despite the loathing of his teachers. He joyfully heads to Carnegie Hall for his shift as an
usher. It is here where Paul escapes the monotony of his life; he finds refuge in his livened senses
the sounds of the symphonies, the lights, the feeling of life. Yet he must return to his strangulated
home of Cordelia Street, a place he naturally detested for its homogeneity, and a place that
motivated him to his great escape. After stealing bank notes and checks... Show more content on

European Imperialism Dbq Essay
For the 300 years between 1500 and 1800,European nations traded for slaves, gold, and ivory along
the west coast of africa, but they did not go deeply into the continent. In the 1880s Africa was under
full assault as European nations competed with one another for control of the continent. The driving
force behind European imperialismis power and they gain it by getting control and resources of
Africaand they justify it all by saying it was their duty as more civilised nations to make other
nations as civilized as theirs.
The first thing that European countries needed was control over Africa and many countries tried
to do so and this led to competition between almost all nations. This can be seen in document A
because it shows a map of the many locations other countries have taken as theirs. Control was a
big factor in all of this but it is only one of the many factors that comes in when a country wants
power.
The next thing that the European countries needed was resourses for the mother country can get
more wealthy and better in supply. This can be seen in document D, and E because document D

country s power by advancing in technology, and document E shows the many imports and ... Show

Treasury and Liberals Social Poilicies
Many senior officials at the Treasury regarded the rising defence estimates and the Liberals social
policies as dangerous because they required a constantly rising level of expenditure. It soon
became clear, however, that such approach was not appropriate. The outcome of the war became
fully dependent on state action and not merely on the economy. It was of a crucial importance for
the Cabinet to step in, allocate manpower, and organize the industry so as to avoid an inefficient
use of resources (capital and people). Hence, Lloyd George stepped in and decided to initiate
Reconstruction by restructuring the Cabinet and introducing various Committees, Ministries, and
Commissions which were to assume extended powers and responsibilities within the private sphere
of civil activities. It was, however, unclear whether this change in faith would pertain over the post
war period as well.
Furthermore, the aftermath of the war was not a pleasant sight for any politician taking office at
the time. The situation awaiting Lloyd George, who had already been assuming the role of a
Prime Minister during the war, had been even more damaging partially due to his party s
increasingly severe internal struggles which began with the social reforms of 1906. Even before
the climax of the war, it became apparent that the Liberal Party was most likely unable to restore its
significance or even secure its survival in the post war government. Liberals led by Lloyd George

Becoming A Supervisor
Based on the information I discovered from this final project, I would still like to be a supervisor.
I know that becoming a supervisor might be a challenge based on the supervisor informational
interviews that I received from Clarice Barrington and Earlene Johnson. However, I m
knowledgeable that a supervisor is a vital participant in the development of the workers that assist
them and also the department; this is the key motivator influence for me. As I would expect, there
is the financial motivationthat comes with every advancement, which is important when planning
for your future; however, that wouldn t be my main purpose because that will not keep unity
among the people that you are leading or help build your department. I would be in a supervisor
position for the wrong reason. The money will not allow me to demonstrate my leadershipabilities,
but my heart and mind will.

supervisor is more than just giving orders or assigning worker s duties to perform every day. It
starts with examining yourself to see what personality traits you possess to see if your chosen

In the Scarlet Letter relationships are commodified based on social/religious standing. Human

James Farmer, 19
James Farmer was one of the Big Four of the civil rights movement era of the nineteen hundreds,
he called for racial harmony through non violence. James Farmer helped shape civil rights
movements with his use of non violent protest and activism. This non violence led to popular
support for the civil rights and voting rights acts that would be passed in 1964. James Farmer s

The Pros And Cons Of Prime Minister Borden
Prime minister Borden was wrong in passing military service act of 1917 being that all mentally
and physically stable men age 20 45 is forced to enlist in the military. He was wrong in
conscripting the french Canadians because it limited their french Canadian culture secondly it
limited democracy toward them and lastly there was no real reason for conscription in the first place.
Firstly The military service act was passed in the year 1917 by prime minister Borden, who was a
great nationalist and wanted to make sure that his country was well protected. Conscription took
away from french Canadian culture because many of the soldiers were mainly English speaking
creating language barriers between french Canadians and English Canadians. ... Show more content

Bringing nationalism could help Canada win the war and gain strength and power. Specifically,
conscription forces you to enlist meaning that there would be no way out young men could be
enrolled at any time and you can be arrested if you disagreed or resisted in any way. If you are
passionate to do something you will do it with great confidence. Similary if you feel patriotic
towards your nationality you will jump at any chance to do anything to protect it. But when you
are being forced to enlist you will not have a real passion, or feel patriotic towards your nation
because that person is being forced to enlist they will not feel loyal to their nation anymore, The
opposing point states that nationalism helps keep a country protected, and that enlisting people
will make canada seem larger. Secondaly when a young french canadian boy is being
conscripted/enlisted they will not be physically and mentally prepared for what they were going
to do , and what they will observe while serving in the military . The opposing viewpoint is
wrong because in order for nationalism to be brought in a country you have to have a passion or
really want to do it you need to feel great patriotism towards your country ,

“What Role Do Minor Parties Perform in the Australian...
The role of the minor parties within the Australian political system can be as their title suggests,
quite minor. On the other hand, a minor party can influence the political proceedings of this country
in more ways than one. Minor parties can highlight socio economic problems that quite often fly
under the radar of the larger political parties, or simply can broaden electoral debate. Often
spawning from a social, or in the case of the Greens, an environmental movement, minor parties
tend to only last through one election, due to a lack of support and relevance in the mainstream
social fabric. The minor parties can become crucial players come election time, due to Australias

For example, if the Federal Liberal party needed preferences in marginal seats in Tasmania, a deal
could be negotiated with the Greens, which could see protection of the old growth forest areas of
the state. In reality this can backfire, as it did for the Labor party during the 2004 Federal election.
Latham and the Labor party stated they would protect the Old grow forest areas from logging
practices, in an attempt to win votes. This lead to a revolt by the unions, and those involved in the
logging industry, claiming that Labor had abandoned them.
The second rule that Sartori created was, A party qualifies for relevance whenever its existence, or
appearance, affects the tactics of party competition and particularly when it alters the direction of
the competition by determining a switch from centripetal to centrifugal competition either leftward,
rightward, or in both directions of the governing oriented parties (1983, p.19). This rule further
highlights the importance of minor party preferences, and the role they have in the Australian
system.
As an extension of Sartori s two criteria for minor party relevance, a third rule is often highlighted
due to Australia s application of preferential voting on the electoral system. This third rule as
quoted by Jaensch (1983, p.21) states that A minor party can be discounted as irrelevant whenever

Beasts can be broken down in a wide variety of views. Although the animal aspect of beast will
be the sub category that will be referenced. animals are covered in many movies as beasts,
fluctuating from animals as small and common as bats. To as big and an unusual as werewolves.
An all time great movie with a extreme beast, is Jaws. Jaws is a movie about a killer white shark
that terrorizes a beach and the men that try to kill it. Here is a breakdown of an instance when
you come across a shark said by the boat captain Quint. Sometimes that shark he looks right into
ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he s got lifeless eyes. Black
eyes. Like a doll s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be living... until he bites ya, and
those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high pitched screaming .
That is kind of a frightening thought. Everyone is a little leery when they see a fin rising out of
the water. The last example of the animal villain is a bit on the unusual side, it was actually
referanced in the example of an unusual animal villain a little prior. The movie is the Wolfman,
hinting at the villain in the title, the villain is a man that turns into a wolf. I believe one of the
most terrifying scenes is where he is sitting in the asylum, tied to the chair. When a group of
men of some authority are trying to exam the villain under the full moon. You can see where
Lawrence Talbert is trying to warn them and they will not listen, then he screams I will kill all of
you! when he is transforming into the petrifying animal. These are both considered by many to be
truly fearsome animals, and rightly so. While it is a little hard to relate animal villains to common
society, you can see many shark attacks on the news and web. As for as werewolves or wolfmen
go, there are stories about dark parts of the forest and ultimately, the

In 2011 the initial shock of the media and reports of the Sandusky scandal uncovering years of
victims and allegations, left spectators in disbelief. The idea that this type of abuse went undetected
from 1994 to 2009 seemed preposterous. The fact of the matter is that Sandusky was enabled to
continue his abuse through high ranking school officials sweeping Sandusky s behavior under the
rug (Chappell, 2012).
The school officials that contributed to covering up the Sandusky scandal were: Penn State athletic
director Tim Curley, senior vice president for finance and business including overseeing the
university police Gary Schultz, Penn State football coach, Joe Paterno and university president,
Graham Spanier. All four of the elite university officials became informed of Sandusky s sexual

not determined by the producer but by the customer (Drucker 1973 cited in Kotler et al. 2009, p. 4).
Thus, in order to achieve organisation s goals, marketing management needs to be flexible to adapt

2 Political and legal: give both opportunities and challenges в†ђ Law: Regulation is enforced by
government to protect passengers, the interests of society from business practices and prevent
unfair competition (Kotler et al. 2009). в†ђ Deregulation: Government regulates domestic
marketplace. Recently, international Open Skies policies between many countries have established
more competition for airline companies (Taube 2009). Increasing deregulate marketplaces greatly
affect the business and marketing strategies. It gives more opportunities as well as increases market
competition between international airlines, regional airlines and low cost airlines. в†ђ Terrorism:
The effect of terrorism in air travel industry is catastrophic (Shaw 2004). A terrorist attack could
seriously decrease in demand for air travel due to safety and security concern (Graham 2006).
Similarly, instability policy also is a major challenge for airline marketing which is usually sudden
and out of their control (Shaw 2004). в†ђ Privatization: According to Shaw (2004), under
privatization, the objective of an airline company is to maximize their profits for the sake of
shareholders. However, under government ownership, besides profits, the carrier

Queer Theory Case Study
Queer theory was developed by Judith Butler in her post modern feminist text, Gender Trouble:
feminism and the subversion of identity (Horitar, 2015). She discussed the role that gender and
sexual orientation play in the way in which society uses the concepts in order to place individuals
in a specific category on the basis on how they behave (Guantlett, 1998; Horitar, 2015). This theory
examines the diverse ways in which current beliefs serves to reintegrate societal anticipations of
genderidentity, appearance and sexuality, it also offers a negotiation for the fragmentation of
constructed gender categories (Horitar, 2015).
According to Western society, sex defines your particular gender (feminine or masculine) which in
turn defines your true identity, for example a biological female is considered to be a women who
is anticipated, by the society in which they live, to be more sensitive and nurturing than a man and
who needs a sensual relationship with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Queer theory allows us to open our eyes to the various factors that nourish heteronormativity
promotes gender conventionality, heterosexuality, and family traditionalism as the correct way
for people to be (Oswald, Blume Marks, 2005:143) and it also helps us to understand how
structural features contribute to individuals who are permitted over others (Few Demo et al.,
2016:75; Oswald et al., 2005). Queer theory aims to destabilise what people take for granted and
allows them to ask interesting questions about individual s identities (Few Demo et al., 2016:76).
Queer theory can be seen as a radical deconstruction and subversion (Few Demo et al., 2016:85;
Green, 2007:28 29), which offers permission to the theorists using queer theory to imagine the
complication of various identities, performativities and

Kern s Musical Innovations
Further, Kern s innovations in music also consisted of experimenting with different types of songs
and new instrument usage. As early as 1913 he suggested to his orchestrator, Frank Saddler (or
acquiesced in Saddler s suggestion), that saxophones be used in the pit band for Oh, I Say!
Although recent musical research has identified these instruments as the smaller European variety
rather than the standard American jazzinstrument, this use of the saxophone was new (Bordman).
He also experimented with many of his songs that deviated from the traditional style of musical
theatre forms and repetition in songs. Harmonic innovations were usually confined to the verse of a
song but experiments with form and style are not that unusual in his... Show more content on

Kern s music along with various collaborators lyrics set the mold for the cohesive story in musical
theatre, which included, not only lyrics that advanced the plot and related to the scene at hand, but
musical interludes by Kern that often repeated in a new song in the musical to connect the story.
These productions, Nobody Home, Very Good Eddie, Oh Boy!, and Oh Lady! Lady!!, were
distinguished by a new approach to musical theater, developed by Kern in collaboration with
librettist Guy Bolton, and, beginning in 1917, the talents of lyricist P.G. Wodehouse (Gale
Research). Aside from the fact that the overall format for musical theatre had changed, thanks in
part to Kern, it was the idea of characterization in song that really brought the modern musicals we
see today to life. Kern s exquisitely flowing melodies were employed to further the action or
develop characterization. The integration of song and story is periodically announced as a
breakthrough in our musical theaters (Bordman). Before this innovation, early musical plays and
minstrel shows often threw songs in at random points, hardly relating it to the scenes at hand,
moving along the plot, or revealing information about the characters lives. The musical revue
format, with unrelated numbers strung together, was replaced

Flexible Racial Identity
Racial identity and flexibility may be interpreted in a variety of ways. However, in reality they
go hand in hand. Racial identity is defined as a sense of collective identity based on one s
perception that he or she shares a common heritage with a specific racial group. On the other
hand, racial identity can be considered as flexible or easily modified. Racial identity and flexibility
intertwine because without each other, self identifying would not be possible. In Hua Hsu s essay,
The End of White America? he argues in support of racial identity and flexibility complementing
one another. This specifically shows that as society further evolves from being ignorant of raceand
culture, the closer mankind gets to eradicating the idea of a dominant... Show more content on

Understanding the concept of racial identity and flexibility is imperative in order to see the gray
areas of life that help avoid the hardships that humans like McBride encountered. But sometimes
different minorities and white Americans tend to believe that by clinging on to the dominant race
one may move ahead. Not only does this promote racial supremacy, but clinging on to the idea of a
dominant race also promotes anti miscegenation. Racial supremacy is the belief that race is
responsible for the differences in human character and that a specific race is superior to others.
This belief alone is bad, however, paired with anti miscegenation which is a law from McBride s
time period that prohibits interracial relations or marriage, it has a synergistic effect which can
be seen throughout his experiences growing up as a black Jewish boy with a white mother. In
the 1960s it was bad enough being an African American because of the amount of judgment that
was received for one s skin tone, but even worse because of those who believed in white
supremacy. Naturally, McBride has many questions for his mother in regards to his identity and
who he belongs to or should classify himself with. This, in turn, causes a gap between McBride
and his mother. A clear example can be seen when McBride

How Does The Father Figure In Gravel And The Autobiography...
The short story Gravel and the autobiography Night are written by Alice Munro. They share the
common idea that the father figure affects the narrator in Gravel and Alice in Night. The question
How does the father figure affect the narrator and Alice in each story? is the main question that s
asked and deeply explained in the context of the stories. In Gravel there are two father figures.
There is the narrator s biological dad and her step dad, Neil. When the mom leaves the biological
dad she moves in with the step dad. Throughout the story Neil isn t consistent with his parenting.

The Horror Of Horror Movies Essay
Horror isn t a Single Genre You re sitting in a dark room with your eyes glues to the television
screen, bowl of popcorn sitting loosely in your lap. On the screen is a dark shadowy figure
chasing a woman throughout a house and watching this scene is making your heart pound out
of your chest. This is the feeling you get when you typically watch a horror movie, you feel like
you re about to explode due to the tension on screen. There are many subgenres of horror movies
and it seems like most people lump them all in to one category, but today we won t be doing
that. We will be touching on various subgenres of the horror universe: slasher films, body horror,
giallo, and zombie films. Slasher films are frightfully delicious and when the genre comes to
mind all I can think about is a super predictable good time! Slasher films are, as said by Sarah
Trencansky, those horror movies that consist of a monster or maniac stalking and/or killing a
succession of people, usually teenagers (64). I couldn t have said it better myself. The slasher
genre is also riddled with a countless number of series such as the Hellraiser series, Nightmare
on Elmstreet, and the most notable, The Halloween series. A great example would be from
Halloween II when Michael Myers is on a killing spree inside of a desolate hospital late on
Halloween night. One of the nurses goes out in the parking lot to leave only to discover that every

Pros And Cons Of Bookkeeping
Why Should You Outsource Your Bookkeeping Matters to The Pros?
In the modern times, bookkeeping has become an increasing need for any and every business no
matter how big or small. There is a reason why many firms spend millions of dollars on a
formidable army of bookkeepers every year. A bookkeeper is one of the few people who can
actually make your business easier. It is no secret that any business faces a number of bookkeeping
related problems almost daily and dealing with these problems is both a mental and an emotional
challenge. But still, a large number of people choose to deal with their books themselves and end
up getting in worse messes every year until they finally realize that there is nothing left to salvage.
However, even the worst scenario can be prevented by investing in a professional bookkeeping
service.

What Is The Mood Of The Jabberwocky
Dr. Seuss once stated, Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. The nonsense poem The
Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll takes readers to a fantasy world with new exciting places and
creatures to discover. The poem was featured in the author s novel Through the Looking Glass,
another mystical world in itself. In the poem, a father warns his son of a dangerous creature called
the Jabberwocky. The son ventures out to find it, and eventually slays the beast. He brings back the
monster s head to his father, who is proud of the boy. Afterwards, everything returns to normal.
Throughout the poem, Carroll uses strategies such as imagery, syntax, silly diction, and rhyme
scheme, as well as influences from his personal background and the poem s timelessness to
contribute to the overall theme that sometimes an escape from reality is needed.... Show more

It is strange to think that someone with a background in English and math could have dreamed
up a work as nonsensical and far fetched as Jabberwocky. However, if you look at the story a
little closer, it makes sense. The context of the poem within the novel Through the Looking
Glass is that Alice has just entered the looking glass room, and has found a book with a strange
language written on it. Alice then realizes that the text is printed backwards, so she must hold
the book up to a mirror in order to read it. Since Carroll was a logical man, he showed a great
aptitude for creating games ( Carroll, Lewis. ). So, the problem solving of the mirror reversal was
right up his alley. Some might still wonder how such a sophisticated man came up with such
ridiculous stories. Cliff Saunders provides one explanation for

Comparing Satire In Candide And Gulliver
Fundamentally, the main two characters in these books Voltaire s Candide and Swift s Gulliver s
Travels (Candide and Gulliver) respectively have been used as units or vehicles for satire
throughout the works. It is therefore of paramount importance to note that, Gulliver and Candide
serve as ironies in these books. The books uses simple language but is characterized by irony as
shown by the actions, practices, and behaviors of the characters. Also of importance to note is that,
although the author exposes the two main characters to positions that do not best fit them in terms
of their actions, the reader must be made to understand that the characters remain oblivious and
naГЇve to their circumstances. According to the nature of the two literature works, I think the
reader must be made to understand that, the two books are used to criticize human weakness by
using some names such as Yahoos and Horse to describe human and the society. In the Voltaire
s
Candide, the main character is exposed to all sorts of ridiculous circumstances which excellently
work to paint a clear picture of the intentions of the author who suffered a lot in his life as he was

Examples Of Trickery In Macbeth
Macbeth is a play about subterfuge and trickery. Macbeth, his wife, and the three Weird Sisters are
linked in their mutual refusal to come out and say things directly. Instead, they rely on implications,
riddles, and ambiguity to evade the truth. Macbeth s ability to manipulate his language and his
public image to hide his foul crimes makes him a very modern seeming politician. As Bernard
McElroy says in his literary criticism about Macbeth, When confronted with the possibility of
committing a daring through criminal act, he willfully deceives himself for a short time and
embraces an opposite view of the world...in the aftermath he s committed to a world view he does
not believe. Macbeth tricks himself into believing it is fine killing... Show more content on

Lady Macbeth mimics this language when she directs her husband to look like an innocent
flower in oder to hide the serpent that truly lurks in his heart(I.v.76 78). The Macbeths know
how to use imagery and appearance to conceal the truth, and sometimes they even use those
skills on themselves. Macbeth asks the stars, Hide your fires/ Let not light see my black and
deep desires/ The eye wink at the hand, yet let that be/ which the eye fears, when it is done, to
see, so that his eye cannot see what his hand does(I.iv.57 60). Similarly, Lady Macbeth asks the
night, Come, thick night/ And pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell/ That my keen knife see not
the wound it makes, so that her knife cannot see itself slash its victim(I.v.57 59). The Macbeths
know that their acts are wicked, so they try to hide the knowledge of their deeds from their own
consciousness. Again Bernard McElroy states Macbeth s crime, Destroys his capacity to respect or
even tolerate himself...his own hands are unrecognizable to him, savage, hangman s hands that
would pluck out his eyes. But, in fact, they do not obliterate his vision; he must continue staring at
them, and in time he loses his mind from the guilt. Macbeth changes who he was, from the pressure
his wife put on him and after the crime, not only does he feel guilt, but Lady Macbeth and they
began distancing. In a sense, they wish to equivocate

How Did The Confederation Lead To German Unification
After the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved by Napoleon, all of the German states were
completely separate. They had nothing tying them together until 1815. This is when the Congress
of Vienna created the German Confederation, a group of 39 loosely joined German states. The
Confederation still had no central government, but delegates would meet once a month to discuss
things like mutual laws and policies. The Confederation was mainly a loose political organization
who had common allies and enemies (Britannica). The states in the Confederation were still
separate for the most part, although this did not cause them problems. The Confederation worked
for all of the states and they were all peaceful. In 1864 the process of unification started... Show

Because of these issues, the Seven Weeks war started between Austria and Prussia. Bismarck had
already gotten Italian support and French neutrality for Prussia. Prussia made the first move by
occupying Holstein, but many German states, including Saxony, Hanover and Bavaria, took
Austria s side. They were suspicious of Prussian military. Despite having support, Austria was
defeated at the Battle of Sadowa (Koniggratz). The Treaty of Prague was created in August of that
year and excluded Austria from all German affairs. Throughout the process of creating the Treaty,
Bismarck made sure that Austria didn t lose any land. After this, the German Confederation was
dissolved and the North German Confederation was formed. The North German Confederation
consisted of all of the German states north of the Main river and it was controlled by Prussia. The
southern states such as Baden and Bavaria stayed independent, although they had military alliances
with Prussia. A main problem that delayed further unification was France, ruled by Napoleon III.
The French held a growing idea that a Germany that was united and ruled by Prussia would create
competition against France for being the main power in Europe. In 1870,

The intended scenery created by the author or the events experienced by other characters and

this is when Miss Brill observes social encounters in the park, It was like a play, it was exactly

dog trotted on solemn and then slowly trotted off, like a little theatre dog, a little dog that had
been drugged...They were all on stage. They weren t only the audience, not only looking on;
they were acting (264 265). Miss Brill considers the park to be a lively place, a collective
performance in her fantasy, while others might only see the park as another public meeting place

vivid daydreams only to remove her awareness from the real stresses and negatives that surround her

  • 2. The Emergence Of The National Curriculum For England In this assignment, I will be discussing the emergence of the National Curriculum for England, and how reforms have led to its evolution into the present framework. I will also be looking at current theories of teaching and learning, and how the National Curriculum 2014 for science reflects these. I will consider how the curriculum document structures how teachers should teach, and also what types of learning theories and teaching approaches might support the teacher in delivering the curriculum. The first part of this assignment will focus on the English Curriculum for primary education. England has not always had a National Curriculum. Even after the Education Act of 1944, which introduced a tripartite system of free schooling for all children, there were no statutory requirements for schools other than the inclusion of religious education. In 1953, the first non selective school opened and changes began to be made with the intention of modernising the primary and secondary school curricula (Arthur and Cremin, p.284). The Plowden Report of 1967 argued for a primary school curriculum that would allow children to live happily and usefully , stressing the importance of other skills besides those of reading, writing and arithmetic (Plowden, p186). However, The shift to more progressive ideas of a child centred curriculum led to accusations of a decline in educational standards, leading to a turning point in modern educational history (Davis 2002 p275), the William ... • 3. Christian History And The Holy Spirit Essay Christian history is active and alive as the Holy Spirit works in and amongst the community of Christians who comprise the Church. Similar to the recording of history in the first century by Luke in the Acts of the Apostles, Christian history is still being written today. Specifically, as Evangelical Christians, we write the story of history each day as we work to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16 20) through application of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22: 37 40). As such, we soon realize that we are not casual observers or bystanders of history, but actual participants. In other words, we have a responsibility to both understand and interpret the past and then apply the faith we hold amongst the generation and peoples of the here and now. As we obediently apply God s word to, go therefore and make disciples of all nations and to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself, we should awaken to the key terms of all nations and your neighbor. It is with this realization that our neighbors, in the communities in which we live, literally represent the nations of the world. In other words, in the modern world in which we live, changes in demographics, world events, and movements of people have literally brought the nations of the world to our front door. As such, we have a great opportunity to open these doors, which turn opens the door to the gospel to the nations of the world. Washington State in general and the South Puget Sound Region in particular are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Obstacle Of Organizing Government The obstacle of organizing government around the environment is that, for the most part, society is too focused on economic growth for the environment to take a precedent. And, as Leopold notes, land...is still property (Leopold 218). The environment, or for Leopold the land, is not a global citizen in it of itself. Rather, the land is merely a tool for the continued economic growth. Since land has limited legal rights, Leopold sees that humans see no harm in exploiting the environment for capital gain. As such, granting the environment legal protection would, as Leopold saw it, be a better means of conservation efforts. Leopold described a system of ethics that, when applied appropriately, apply to both man and land. Despite defining an ethic as both a limitation on freedom off action in the struggle for existence and a differentiation of social from anti social conduct, Leopold saw little difference between an ethological the former and the philosophical the latter definitions of an ethic (Leopold 217 218). Both definitions create a sense of cooperation between individuals. However, the issue for the human land relation is that, currently, ethics is not being applied. The land relation is still strictly economic, entailing privileges but not obligations (Leopold 218). As Leopold saw it, mankind understands the need for the natural world, so there exists a limited sense of respect. However, unlike the ethics shared between human beings, the rights of land are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Are We Safe In Schools Essay 3. How to Make Schools Safe To begin with, the first thing I will do to make schools safer is to install key card locks and metal detectors in every entrance. The reason why I want key card locks is because only faculty and students would have special key cards that would let them into the building and people without the key cards could not enter the building. This prevents any unauthorized personal to enter the building and endanger the faculty and students. The reason why schools need metal sectors is to make sure faculty or students are not carrying a dangerous weapon with them. Also, the schools should bring in a Police Officer so the kids can be educated by a person who knows about safety and protection. This will give students a better knowledge of gun safely. Another, idea is to have a gun drive in the local community. The reason why we should have a gun drive so people could trade in their guns for money. The reason why this is important is because young kids are curious and adventures. They can find anything in the house even if the parent puts stuff in a safe place. I guarantee kids will find items even though parents thought the area was a safe place. Kids will find items like guns because they think it looks cool and will bring them to school to show their friends. Then a kid will be injured or killed because they were playing with the weapon during recess or gym. Therefore, a gun drive would eliminate guns from homes because parents can not watch their kids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, consumers have become more price conscious about their tirepurchases and less focused on loyalty to a specific brand. They experienced a 3.2% decline in the market share for the tires associated with passenger car replacement (Kerin, 2005). Because of this change, Goodyear has seen a drop in their sales. With already 2 million Goodyear brand tires, which have been worn out, being replaced at 850 Sears Auto Center locations annually, Goodyear reopened previous discussions with Sears to possibly sell their Eagle brand tires or all Goodyear tire brands through them. Choosing to do so could create great benefits for the company but could also generate turmoil within their franchises and other retail chains where their brands are sold. Before making the final decision, they must determine how this move will affect their franchisees, are they willing to significantly change their distribution policy, what brands Goodyear will allow to be retailed through the Sears network, and how cannibalization of their brands sold via other ... The word shaman comes from the language of the Evenk, a small Tungus speaking group of hunters and reindeer herders from Siberia. It was first used only to designate a religious specialist from this region. By the beginning of the 20th century it was already being applied to a variety of North America and South American practices from the present and the past. Due to the theory of shamanism being introduced into the Mesoamerican culture because of the writings of Eliade and Furst, it seems only fair to look carefully at the relevance to their interpretations. Eliade had originally acknowledged the oddity concerning the concept of shamanism and, in turn, took it into his own hands to create a version this concept himself. (Klein, pg. 388) I can not reasonable enter into the idea of this model that he has created. He clearly explains the existence of shamanism in Siberia and inner Asia, in which there has been, documented proof. The idea that because this is happening there does not prove that it was happening over 2000 years ago across the world. He fails to connect the two areas, in time and place, feasible. It is extremely interesting that only Eliade s point of view is found in the Encyclopedia of Religion. (Eliade 201 208) Despite Furst s attempt to redefine shamanism in terms of specific American religious beliefs and practices, the new criteria he provided have proved to be as unreliable as Eliade s. So knowing that acids produce H+ in aqueous solutions and bases produce OH in aqueous solutions. With that said Acid + Base neutralized reaction. These material items that society puts such a high value on create separations of wealth amongst the people, in turn creating the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. In a nutshell, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister is a story about a fish with many beautiful scales who refuses to give any of them to the less fortunate fish. In the text, it states, What good were the dazzling, shimmering scales with no one to admire them? Now he was the loneliest fish in the entire ocean (Pfister 10). Commodification is prevalent as Rainbow Fish selfishly only focuses on himself. He does not want the scales for their usefulness, he only wants them when other fish are there to admire them. Rainbow Fish only wants the scales if they give him a higher social status. If no one is there to compliment him, then the scales mean nothing to him. Additionally, Rainbow Fish exhibits commodification when he thinks about giving away his scales. Rainbow Fish states, Give away my scales? My beautiful shining scales? Never. How could I ever be happy without them (Pfister 16). Rainbow Fish allows material items to impact his life so greatly that they determine his happiness. Rainbow Fish is so commodified that even the thought of giving away his scales triggers unhappiness and worry. Rather than basing happiness off of good works and personality, he bases it off of how much material he has. Understanding Thermal or Solar Heat Gain Coefficients In order to understand the word thermal within a building, then SHGC which is solar heat gain coefficients had to be known to known the property of thermal insulation and conductivity in a whole manner. Solar heat gain coefficient is widely use in the United State in designing building. SHGC may refer to the transmittance of solar energyof windows or even walls, every object can be evaluate by using solar heatgain coefficient method by knowing the properties of each material. If a material have high solar heat gain coefficient, then the material is a good absorbent of solar heat. For material that is black in colour, inevitably it absorb heat faster because of the colour doesn t reflect the wavelength that comes directly from the source of light. So, low e components of a building that comes with low solar heat gain coefficient will reflect and keep heat source that came from sunaway from the house and that will probably makes a house cooler. Solar heat gain coefficient usually dealt with windows that possess a low e property. Low e may regard to the emissivity of one s material. Nowadays window mostly is transparent, and that makes it vulnerable for sunlight to penetrate easily into a house without any reflection. Treasury and Liberals Social Poilicies Many senior officials at the Treasury regarded the rising defence estimates and the Liberals social policies as dangerous because they required a constantly rising level of expenditure. It soon became clear, however, that such approach was not appropriate. The outcome of the war became fully dependent on state action and not merely on the economy. It was of a crucial importance for the Cabinet to step in, allocate manpower, and organize the industry so as to avoid an inefficient use of resources (capital and people). Hence, Lloyd George stepped in and decided to initiate Reconstruction by restructuring the Cabinet and introducing various Committees, Ministries, and Commissions which were to assume extended powers and responsibilities within the private sphere of civil activities. On the other hand, a minor party can influence the political proceedings of this country in more ways than one. Minor parties can highlight socio economic problems that quite often fly under the radar of the larger political parties, or simply can broaden electoral debate. Often spawning from a social, or in the case of the Greens, an environmental movement, minor parties tend to only last through one election, due to a lack of support and relevance in the mainstream social fabric. The minor parties can become crucial players come election time, due to Australias law of Compulsory preferential voting. Jaensch (1983, p.21)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, if the Federal Liberal party needed preferences in marginal seats in Tasmania, a deal could be negotiated with the Greens, which could see protection of the old growth forest areas of the state. In reality this can backfire, as it did for the Labor party during the 2004 Federal election. Latham and the Labor party stated they would protect the Old grow forest areas from logging practices, in an attempt to win votes. This lead to a revolt by the unions, and those involved in the logging industry, claiming that Labor had abandoned them. The second rule that Sartori created was, A party qualifies for relevance whenever its existence, or appearance, affects the tactics of party competition and particularly when it alters the direction of the competition by determining a switch from centripetal to centrifugal competition either leftward, rightward, or in both directions of the governing oriented parties (1983, p.19). This rule further highlights the importance of minor party preferences, and the role they have in the Australian system. As an extension of Sartori s two criteria for minor party relevance, a third rule is often highlighted due to Australia s application of preferential voting on the electoral system. This third rule as quoted by Jaensch (1983, p.21) states that A minor party can be discounted as irrelevant whenever its preferences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To as big and an unusual as werewolves. An all time great movie with a extreme beast, is Jaws. Jaws is a movie about a killer white shark that terrorizes a beach and the men that try to kill it. Here is a breakdown of an instance when you come across a shark said by the boat captain Quint. Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high pitched screaming . That is kind of a frightening thought. Everyone is a little leery when they see a fin rising out of the water. The last example of the animal villain is a bit on the unusual side, it was actually referanced in the example of an unusual animal villain a little prior. The movie is the Wolfman, hinting at the villain in the title, the villain is a man that turns into a wolf. I believe one of the most terrifying scenes is where he is sitting in the asylum, tied to the chair. When a group of men of some authority are trying to exam the villain under the full moon. You can see where Lawrence Talbert is trying to warn them and they will not listen, then he screams I will kill all of you! when he is transforming into the petrifying animal. These are both considered by many to be truly fearsome animals, and rightly so. As Bernard McElroy says in his literary criticism about Macbeth, When confronted with the possibility of committing a daring through criminal act, he willfully deceives himself for a short time and embraces an opposite view of the world...in the aftermath he s committed to a world view he does not believe. Macbeth tricks himself into believing it is fine killing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lady Macbeth mimics this language when she directs her husband to look like an innocent flower in oder to hide the serpent that truly lurks in his heart(I.v.76 78). The Macbeths know how to use imagery and appearance to conceal the truth, and sometimes they even use those skills on themselves. Macbeth asks the stars, Hide your fires/ Let not light see my black and deep desires/ The eye wink at the hand, yet let that be/ which the eye fears, when it is done, to see, so that his eye cannot see what his hand does(I.iv.57 60). Similarly, Lady Macbeth asks the night, Come, thick night/ And pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell/ That my keen knife see not the wound it makes, so that her knife cannot see itself slash its victim(I.v.57 59). The Macbeths know that their acts are wicked, so they try to hide the knowledge of their deeds from their own consciousness. Again Bernard McElroy states Macbeth s crime, Destroys his capacity to respect or even tolerate himself...his own hands are unrecognizable to him, savage, hangman s hands that would pluck out his eyes. But, in fact, they do not obliterate his vision; he must continue staring at them, and in time he loses his mind from the guilt. Macbeth changes who he was, from the pressure his wife put on him and after the crime, not only does he feel guilt, but Lady Macbeth and they began distancing. In a sense, they wish to equivocate ... • 53. How Did The Confederation Lead To German Unification After the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved by Napoleon, all of the German states were completely separate. They had nothing tying them together until 1815. This is when the Congress of Vienna created the German Confederation, a group of 39 loosely joined German states. The Confederation still had no central government, but delegates would meet once a month to discuss things like mutual laws and policies. The Confederation was mainly a loose political organization who had common allies and enemies (Britannica). The states in the Confederation were still separate for the most part, although this did not cause them problems. The Confederation worked for all of the states and they were all peaceful. In 1864 the process of unification started... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of these issues, the Seven Weeks war started between Austria and Prussia. Bismarck had already gotten Italian support and French neutrality for Prussia. Prussia made the first move by occupying Holstein, but many German states, including Saxony, Hanover and Bavaria, took Austria s side. They were suspicious of Prussian military. Despite having support, Austria was defeated at the Battle of Sadowa (Koniggratz). The Treaty of Prague was created in August of that year and excluded Austria from all German affairs. Throughout the process of creating the Treaty, Bismarck made sure that Austria didn t lose any land. After this, the German Confederation was dissolved and the North German Confederation was formed. The North German Confederation consisted of all of the German states north of the Main river and it was controlled by Prussia. The southern states such as Baden and Bavaria stayed independent, although they had military alliances with Prussia. A main problem that delayed further unification was France, ruled by Napoleon III. The French held a growing idea that a Germany that was united and ruled by Prussia would create competition against France for being the main power in Europe. In 1870, ... How Does Katherine Mansfield Use Imagery In Miss Brill When an individual experiences loneliness in his or her life, time will tell how they choose to continue in order to escape the unpleasant feeling. In the short story of Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield, an older woman brings the atmosphere around her to life when she employs her vast imagination during her visits to the park every Sunday. Compared to the normal, social human being, Miss Brillis not one to face the stresses of life with confidence; in fact, she does not face them at all when she attempts to create her own personal fantasy in order to escape the unkind judgments of the world. Ultimately, Miss Brill must face the matters that society throws at her and she must decide whether an alternative personality is the best distraction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The intended scenery created by the author or the events experienced by other characters and people in the short story is perceived differently in the mind of the old woman. An example of this is when Miss Brill observes social encounters in the park, It was like a play, it was exactly like a play. Who could believe the sky at the back wasn t painted? But it wasn t till a little brown dog trotted on solemn and then slowly trotted off, like a little theatre dog, a little dog that had been drugged...They were all on stage. They weren t only the audience, not only looking on; they were acting (264 265). Miss Brill considers the park to be a lively place, a collective performance in her fantasy, while others might only see the park as another public meeting place or outdoor social spot. However, as readers may analyze further, the main character invents these vivid daydreams only to remove her awareness from the real stresses and negatives that surround her ...
