Dr Faustus Essay
Him, Himself, and Faustus Status and recognition what means an individual is willing to surpass to
achieve those ends is evident in Western society s praise of celebrities and their fame, whilst
trivializing tragic events and those responsible with talking points. For some, it does not matter how
their name is recognized in history or discussed by those who know them, but that their name is
merely spoken of at all. Surely then, a society which rewards individuals for their infamous, grotesque
acts with recognition, and then fails to effectively address the issue at hand, might find that such
incidents occur more and more frequently. The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus (A text) and The
Tragedy of Doctor Faustus (B text) by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This drive is seen time and time again throughout both texts: from conjuring the spirit of Alexander
the Great for Emperor Charles V (4.1.63 4; 4.1.99 101), to producing ripe grapes when not in season
for the Duke of Vanholt and the pregnant Duchess (4.2.12 7; 4.6.19 23). Clearly, this drive is best
demonstrated through Faustus himself when asked by his fellow scholars to summon Helen of Troy in
the B text:
Gentlemen, for that I know your friendship is unfeigned,
It is not Faustus custom to deny
The just request of those that wish him well.
You shall behold that peerless dame of Greece (5.1.18 21). Faustus strong desire to impress others
doubtlessly derives from his fear of being rejected by those of high stature in society; he wishes to
belong with them and not from whence he came. Furthermore, Stephen Orgel notes in Magic and
Power in Doctor Faustus , that although Faustus has unlimited power, he only conjures what is asked
of him, never striving beyond or testing his boundaries, and that this represents two major flaws
within Faustus: an artistic failure of imagination and a scholarly failure of originality (396). Both
failures stem from Faustus only doing what he is told, merely fulfilling what is asked of him, so that
he may, for a while, share their acclaim and status. If Faustus were truly empowered or secure in his
own abilities,

Privatization in Pakistan
Privatization can be defined as transfer of ownership of business or property to private companies
from the government. When any public company becomes private, then in that company the investor
cannot purchase a stake.
In Pakistan, the process of privatization was a program of policy measures in the economic period of
Pakistan. The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has first conceived and implemented the idea of
privatization, in order to enable the nationalized companies and industries towards market economy. It
has initiated 1989 90 immediately just after the economic collapse of Soviet Union. The program has
visualized and envisaged, to enhance the growth of GDP of the national economy of Pakistan (Khan,
2010).
Objective of Privatization:
In Pakistan, since 1991, the privatization has been promoted (Khan et al., 2011). The two main factors
behind privatization were the increasing popularity of the market economy and the globalization.
Create Opportunities for the Private Sector
The first objective of the privatization is to create better opportunities for the private sectors of
Pakistan, for modernization and promoting expansion.

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
How cultural transitioning affected the Garcia Family
Cultural shock is a common feeling a person experiences when transitioning into a completely
different environment and living situation. Throughout the world, immigrants experience many
difficulties when assimilating into a new culture.
The novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, by Julia Alvarez, illustrates these challenges.
Throughout the novel, we see how different aspects of culture shock impact the Garcia family. In this
essay I will discuss how particular events change each family member s Dominican cultural values
and identity.
As the family became immersed with the traditions of contemporary American culture, they began to
forge conflicting identities and values, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of these American problems the mother decides to move the family into boarding schools
in order to avoid these cultural conflicts.
Discrimination is a common problem foreign students face when initially transitioning into a foreign
countries school. Several aspects of educational institutions in America are much different from those
in the Dominican, and these differences create tension and conflict among foreign students and native
peers.
Several of the events that the Garcia girls experienced are common negative aspects of cultural
integration. Harassment and discrimination are common forms of cultural conflicts that occur between
two opposing cultures. Cultural values that have become forged into a person s life usually remain
with them for long periods of time. In this case, the Garcia girls were unable to completely adjust their
perspectives of Dominican values to accommodate to their Americanized living situation. They held
on to their traditional Dominican values, which conflicted with American culture. As a result, they
experienced harassment and discrimination.
The relationship between Yolanda and Rudy exemplified a negative aspect of cultural conflict.
Because this novel took place during the sexual revolution, sex was a prominent aspect of American
values. Rudy embraced the ideology that sex should be an enjoyable event that should not be taken
seriously. He continuously incorporated vulgar terminology in his

American Contemporary Poetry: Journal critique essay
West 10th and Poetry Magazines
The importance of poetry in a college student s life cannot be overemphasized. From ensuring that one
is conversant with contemporary social and economic issues as well as generally having a large
knowledge base on different subject topics. Poetry is important for the enrichment of the soul and the
nourishment of the mind. It also helps us step back and look at things from different perspectives. Like
any other form of art, poetry is open to a plethora of interpretations and one can analyze it based on
their past knowledge and experiences. American poetry, as it is being written now, is centered on a

campus and amongst the poetry world. A combination of witty, sharp and relatable poetry, art and
prose is published. This magazine, published yearly has grown in quality and quantity over the years
but has stuck to its general themes of rebirth, newness, love and acceptance. For instance in the 3rd
issue (2009 2010) the poet Katie Blakely in her poem Dissection, depicts a love story in which the
narrator is speaking to her lover and telling him what exactly she loves about him. She says I really do
love the little things in life, like your voice.. (West 10th, 3 57). Also in the most recent issue this theme
of love is consistent. In the poem Avant le deluge by Shinji Moon, the narrator paints a picture of
lovers experiencing a storm and states that They kissed for the last time, grinning when he opened his
mouth to say I love you , he swallowed an entire sea (West 10th, 6 52). Besides this in the poem
Maritime by Amanda Birkner, a love experience is portrayed by narrating that your mouth is ripe on
mine.. your pioneer hands take the shape of my hips (West 10th , 6 15). This poem, in itself is daring
and the language used might be considered profane and indecent but I think

The Story Of The Movie The Great Gatsby And Snow...
Heroes are found everywhere when Disney is involved. From a prince or princess to secretive toys to
the smallest forms of life on earth, a hero can be found in anyone. Being attached to one or a few is
entirely common. These certain characters may be the ones they look up to. Young girls often choose
to look up to a princess, although, they are not what they were over 50 years ago. The very first
Disney princess, Snow White, is purely a damsel in distress. The same goes for Aurora who appeared
in Sleeping Beauty years later. As the years have gone on, that weaker vision of a princess has faded.
The modern day princesses are anything but damsels needing to be saved by a man. Rapunzel chooses
to give up her freedom in order to save Flynn Rider s life. Tiana works hard to provide for herself so
she can chase her dream. Merida rejects what everyone else thinks she should be and is true to herself.
Elsa only needs the love from her sister. This list will only get bigger as Disney continues to create
these young female heroines. If anything, Disney is preaching to young girls everywhere to be strong
in a world that may play on their faults or weaknesses. During a time strong feminist movements,
Disney manages to satisfy demands by allowing the girl to be the hero. Though Snow White and
Sleeping Beauty are still timeless classics, the princesses of today set a better example for young girls
everywhere and that is why they seem to be more attractive than the originals. Disney has a

The Effect Of Body Condition On Postpartum Interval
Introduction There has been a long history of the effect of body condition on postpartum interval;
however, there have been limited reports to elucidate the interaction between body condition score and
follicular populations and how this affects postpartum interval. Postpartum Interval is defined as the
period of sexual rest during which the reproductive system is mainly quiescent. Follicular
development is minimal; the corpora lutea, although identifiable, have regressed and are non
functional. Secretions are scanty and viscous, the cervix is constricted, and the vaginal mucosa is pale
(Sheldon, 2002). A major obstacle in maintaining a 12 mo calving interval for beef producers,
particularly for those using Brahman females, is the long duration of the postpartum anestrous period.
In order to curb this, a postpartum animal must recover from the suppressive effects of gestation and
parturition on the pituitary, ovarian and endocrine systems (Browning et al., 1994). Pituitary and
ovarian function in suckled beef cows may return within 4 to 5 wk after calving (McNatty, 1988;
Wright et al., 1990). Nutrition is a major factor controlling the length of the postpartum acyclicity
(Randel, 1990). When an animal gains or losses body condition the amount of leptin in blood is
changed (Amstalden et al., 2000; Amstalden et al., 2005), due to the increase in adipocytes, thus
affecting the release of GnRH; and thereby affecting oogenesis, follicular maturation and ovulation

To Freely Bloom, By Gerry Spence
To freely bloom That is my definition of success. This is how Gerry Spence, a semi retired American
trial lawyer, views the meaning of the word bloom. Spence, also never losing a criminal case as a
defense attorney and prosecutor since 2014, is a trustworthy source. He believes that to be successful
in life is for one to bloom freely and truly. For one to glow confidently and without hesitation. To not
be afraid to show their true self to themselves and to others. Bloom is a radiant, happy, and youthful
glow in a person s complexion. Bloom can be illustrated in several different ways that all seem to
relate to one another. The word bloom has a positive and uplifting connotation. A person who is

past year, supervision changes killed your motivation. I will look for more opportunities for us to

The Prostitute In Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment,...
The Prostitute In Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, and The Meek One
The prostitute is a curious fixture of Victorian era literature. In the works of William Thackeray and
Samuel Richardson it was almost cliché for the heroine to end up in a house of prostitution and then to
transcend that situation in a show of proper Victorian morals. Having seen many young women forced
by extreme poverty to take up the trade of a loose woman, Fyodor Dostoevsky, a petit bourgeois fallen
on hard times himself, took a rather different approach to the whole issue; he recognized that these
women were not utterly without merit as so many people of the time thought. Georg Brandes spoke
accurately when he said, Dostoevsky preaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet this connection would be for naught if not for the virtue of Sonia. When he confesses his heinous
crime to her, she weeps in sorrow for him and begs him to save himself by confessing. Dostoevsky s
point here is that by setting himself anathema from society and God, Raskolnikov is destroying his
own spirit. He is not allowing himself to function as he was made to function, and a house divided
against itself cannot stand. Just so, Raskolnikov cannot survive as a man in a world turned about and
disrupted beyond recognition by his act of violence and societal dissent. Providence is strikingly
illustrated here: Raskolnikov cannot survive without Sonia s aid, but neither could Sonia have been
redeemed if Raskolnikov had not come along in need of redemption himself; she would have
continued on the road to perdition from which her charitable impulses tore her.
What is Dostoevsky illustrating here? He is showing us the cruelty of inner struggle and the fact that
this struggle can only be won through the power of grace and redemption. Sonia struggles with the
fact that she is indeed a house divided. On one hand she is the epitome of wisdom and holiness, and
on the other she is the base tool of men s lust. This flagrant contradiction cannot stand; Sonia must
choose one path or the other. Raskolnikov also demonstrates this inherent contradiction: he is both
pure good and pure evil. This mélange of sin and sadism, of purity and

The Lack Of Knowledge That Researchers Know About Public...
This article focused on the lack of knowledge that researchers know about public policy
implementation despite several years of research. Also, it attempts to alter the deficiencies by
performing results from a comprehensive literacy review. Its main object was to: 1) challenge; 2)
revises; 3) and add some conventional wisdom about implementation. In addition, provide a
foundation for and start a much needed mixture of experimental data research result. The author stated
that: The overall volume of publications on policy implementation has not stagnated or declined
dramatically since the mid 1980s as is commonly asserted (Saetren, 2005). Quite the opposite, policy
implementation has grown through the 1990s and into the twenty first century. Surprisingly, a sizeable
number of publications are located outside the core field (Saetren, 2005).
Therefore, the core field consisted of approximately 60 different journals that published over 454
implementation articles over a 60 year time frame. The area of concentration from these statistics of
public policy implementation was: public policy, public administration, and political science. Doctoral

Essay about Immigration to the European Union
Immigration to the European Union
The EU has to decide how to deal with immigration. The European Union allows it s citizens to move
freely within it s borders, and also work in any member country. It is also relatively safe and has a
democratic government, which makes the laws and regulations, the countries within it are quite highly
developed and successful, and provide benefits to needy citizens. It may not be perfect, but compared
to other countries there are many opportunities for a good life in the EU.
It is therefore no wonder that migrants come, either fleeing violence or prosecution (asylum seekers)
or looking for work, (economic migrants).

The Express has the front page headline: Forged ID cards are a passport to terror. The article explains
how easily fake passports and ID cards can be purchased for use of immigration to Europe and
permission to work, It doesn t matter if you don t have permission to work with these you can easily
get a job, it states.¨
Should this be worrying? What seems more concerning is that it off handily switches from talk of
migrants to terrorists without much separation. Another example that gives the impression that
immigration will cause a rise in crime is given in a report from the European crime agency, Europol:
Warning that organised vice and drug gangs may flood Britain  it states dramatically. However,
evidence from the socio economic research program showed that there was no direct link between
immigration and rising crime levels. Ignorance is the basis of racism, says European research
commissioner, Phillip Basquin, and this new report should help insure that any future judgments or
policies involving immigration issues will take into account the latest facts first. ª
Taking a look on a different point of the argument, it seems that there is more evidence that goes
against the papers.
What would happen to the EU if

The Sound And The Fury Analysis
In The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner the representation of populations with inter family
conflict is expressed through the differing character explanations in their designated sections. The
novel provides an insight to the mind and memory comprehension of different mental capacities;
however, how and why is a social group represented in a particular way? The Sound and the Fury is
divided into four specific sections that are devoted to the minds of four different characters,
specifically Benjamin, Quentin, Jason, and the unknown chapter. The first chapter is Benjamin s
chapter, this chapter is spent mainly shifting from the present time and the past. Faulkner utilized
Benjamin s different mindset to provide the reader with an accurate thought pattern. This constant
shift allows for the reader to connect to Benjamin s understanding and experiences. The second
chapter belongs to Quentin, this chapter gives the insight of Quentin s life experiences and the causes
of his imminent death. Faulkner once again switches from present to past in this chapter; however, the
past memories connect to the ending of his chapter where he ends his life. The third chapter is from
the viewpoint of Jason and all of the problems that he is left with from the actions of his siblings. The
final chapter is neither devoted to just one person or to all problems of the family, instead the final
chapter encapsulates the hardships that the family faces as a whole. Faulkner s use of division

Analysis of the Case Law
Analysis of the Case Law There is no prescribed constitutional relationship between the courts and the
executive, but the judges assert their inherent power, derived from the rule of law, to review executive
actions
The question starts off by giving us an element of the separation of powers when it says that there is
no prescribed constitutional relationship between the courts and the executives.
The concept of separation of powers propounded by Montesquieu, the French political philosopher,
has three main criteria:
(i) There are three main classes of governmental functions: the legislature, the executive and ... Show

The starting point for judicial review of administrative action is that public authorities will be
restrained from exceeding their powers (acting ultra vires) and inferior tribunals will be prevented
from exceeding the limits of their jurisdiction. This important constitutional function of containing
both the Executive and inferior tribunals within the limits of their authority has long been exercised by
the courts. In the seventeenth century it was established that the Crown could not set itself above the
law by a bare assertion of prerogative. Today, the ultra vires doctrine prevents public authorities from
doing anything the law forbids, or taking action for which they have no statutory authority.
The term Ultra vires was first generally used to denote excess of legal authority by independent
statutory bodies and railway companies in the middle years of nineteenth century,[2] though the main
features to the doctrine to which this name was given had already been taking shape over a long
period in relation to the powers of common law corporations. The term came to be used in relation to
municipal corporations, then to the other new types of local government authorities, and finally to the
Crown and its servants and even to inferior judicial bodies.

ideas about the people s backgrounds and who they are. Irony is often used in Briar Rose, especially
with Josef. Josef represents the prince because he saves Gemma s life during the Holocaust. The
stereotypical view of princes in fairytales is that they rescue the female, and they kiss and live happily

harsh details of her survival are hidden in the magical fairytale, and it softens the impact of reality for

Mount Rainier Research Paper
Mount Rainier is one of the most dangerous volcanic eruptions since it is still active and threatens the
surrounding area. Mount Rainier is a stratovolcano at Cascade Volcanic Arc.
By exploring the plate tectonic setting of the volcano from the website of Mozier and Graham, we can
aware that it is a subduction of the North America Plate and Juan de Fuca Plate (Mozier., Graham). In
addition, the stratovolcano has characteristics of high viscosity, volatile and large volume. So Mount
Rainier will have a relative explosive eruption. According to the research which made by USGS, we
can clearly know that there are two eruption types which are lava producing and explosive debris
producing are alternatively taking place (National Park Service). Due to the feature of activeness, it
will make Mount Rainier dangerous. Moreover, the last recent eruption of Mount Rainier happened in

The Communication Accommodation Theory Through...
This paper is going to show insight and inside knowledge of the communication accommodation
theory through convergence, divergence, social identity, and initial orientation. Throughout this paper,
evidence will be shown through these four different elements and four studies on how they play an
enormous role within communication behavior. Research that I have conducted show studies that have
tested and analyzed how participants in each test use these four elements when speaking with a
foreigner. I am going to apply these tests and results to my own experiences when I am speaking with
a foreigner, specifically for when I am in Sweden each summer when I am communicating with
Swedes. Then I will to go through and analyze how I converge, diverge, use initial orientation and
social identity while speaking with a Swede.
I am a dual citizen of Sweden and the United States, I have the privilege to go back to Sweden and
stay there every summer. Since I am not the best Swedish speaker, I am going to apply my experiences
while I am there through the communication accommodation theory, and four significant elements
within that theory; which include convergence, divergence, initial orientation, and social identity. In
this paper, I argue that past studies are not as in depth in analyzing all possible situations such as my
own situation applied through these elements. Especially since applying this to foreigner

not refer precisely to something of terror. The protagonist of Araby faces experiences for which his
previous experiences had not prepared him. In this case the main character enters a new stage of his
life (an evolutionary stage), from childhood to adolescence. For this reason, Araby, by James Joyce,
should be considered a story of initiation.
The protagonist, and at the same time the narrator of this story is a child that all the experiences he has
had are based on school and play with his friends. He lives in a small, quiet neighborhood, where day
to day life is monotonous. However, the protagonist loses interest in the games, since something else
catches his attention: the sister of his friend Mangan. This boy spends hours looking at this girl and
does not understand the sensations and feelings that she causes, feelings that come to his life for the
first time to make him discover love.
The protagonist has not lived before a similar situation since it is the first time that falls in love. This
first experience represents a discovery. This child does not understand the feelings discovered and the
state in which he is. (...) I myself did not understand (...) I thought little of the future. I did not know
whether I would ever speak to her or not or, if I spoke to her, how I could tell her of my confused
adoration (par. 5). The protagonist

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Personality
One of Sigmund Freud s greatest contributions to the field of Psychology was his theory of
personality. Considering this, Freud based his theory that a human s behavior is the interaction of three
components of the mind: the id, ego, and superego. The id is the utmost primitive; it develops first to
cater the needs of the person, and it is also a component of the unconscious mind. The ego is the
decision making component of the personality. Furthermore, it is the most reasonable, taking to
account, it operates on the principle of reality trying to satisfy its needs. Lastly, the superego. The
superego is the segment that reflects the rules taught by parents or guardians. It is the conscious,
knowing the difference between right and wrong, also, striving for perfection. His theory of
personality, I believe, is the basis of modern day Psychology; with, of course, the aspect of thinking
differently from his predecessors. His idea outlined a plethora of advanced ideas known today in the
modern world, even though a vast majority of his theories are out of date and considered incorrect by
an abounding amount of present day psychologists. There is no proof of the id, ego, or superego; with
this in mind, it is inadequate to genuinely value his theories in psychology today considering all of the
proof against them. I personally don t believe this theory because it s like saying that all people are the
same and want the same things, and have the same desires. However, that is

J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Ortgies Essay
J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish
At first glance, J.D. Salinger s short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish is the story of a psychically
torn war veteran whose post traumatic stress moves him to take his own life while on a second
honeymoon with his wife. Indeed, that is the story, but that first glance does not reveal the inner
motives and symbolic pathways Seymour Glass takes to reach the final decision to end his life. The
carefully placed details and minute innuendoes are deliberate on Salinger s part, and they represent
pieces of the puzzle to find out what is really happening in the protagonist s head. Indeed, A Perfect
Day is just one part of the Glass family saga, and Seymour s character and family ... Show more

Now, if instead of ?See More? Glass we define him as ?See More Glass? then I have a slightly more
cryptic interpretation for his name. Now, the Glass family is Jewish, as is established in Salinger?s
Nine Stories, and Seymour is a veteran of World War II. Before America?s involvement in the war, on
November 9th, 1938, there was a very violent uprising of Reich citizens against the Jewish population
orchestrated by Joseph Goebbels. During that time thousands Jewish citizens were rounded up for
concentration camps and their businesses were destroyed, littering the streets with glass from their
storefronts. That night came to be known as the Kristallnacht, or in English, the ?Night of Broken
Glass.? Though I know there is no direct link to this night in the story, and indeed it took place before
Seymour was even in Europe, it has a direct link to the first major violence against Jews as well as a
sharp spike in the number of Jewish adults who committed suicide to escape the horrors of the Reich.
The perhaps far fetched, I feel this more esoteric interpretation of Seymour?s name could well
represent the link to the horrors he experienced during his tenure in World War II.
A name is a metaphysical representation of a person, but there are physical hints in Seymour?s
characterization that hint towards a greater purpose in his actions. Muriel tells her mother that he

in 1881 Armstrong recommended him as the principal of a new school called Tuskegee Institute in
Tuskegee, Alabama. July 4, 1881 was the first day of school at Tuskegee Institute. It was a humble
beginning, but under Washington s care both the school and Washington grew to be world famous. His
school made lasting and profound contributions to the South and to the United States such as through
the work of one of its teachers George Washington Carver.
One of his main problems was always finding enough money. The support he received from the state
was neither generous nor stable enough to build the kind of school he was developing. So he had to
raise the money himself by going on speaking tours and solicitating donations. He received a lot of
money from white northerners who were impressed with the work he was doing and his non
threatening racial views. Industrialists like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller would donate
money on a regular basis. It was these non threatening racial views that gave Washington the
appellation quot; The Great Accomodater quot;. He believed that blacks should not push to attain equal
civil and political rights with whites. Eventually they would earn the respect and love of the white
man, and civil and political rights would be accrued as a matter of course.

Klamath Basin Reclamation Essay
Basin History and Reclamation The Klamath Project is truly an impressive feat of engineering and

The role of the Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge as a bird oasis among disappearing wetlands was
short lived. The combined efforts of the Klamath Water Users Association and the Bureau of
Reclamation resulted in Klamath Lake being cut off from its main water source by the construction of
the South Pacific Railroad dike(Most 2006;Foster 2008). In 1922 all that remained of Lower Klamath
Lake was a 365 acre pond. However because farmer s fields were sometimes flooded by Tule Lake,
which overpowered the dikes built to restrain it, the Bureau of Reclamation built a 6,000 foot tunnel to
pump excess water from Tule Lake to Lower Klamath Lake. The pipe aided in abetting the
environmental problems experienced in Lower Klamath and Tule Lakes, though they have never been
fully refilled (Most 2006). As a result of this hydrological engineering, Lower Klamath NWR is nearly

The influence the social media, self esteem, diet and sex have on body image dissatisfaction.
ABSTRACT
The influence the social media, self esteem, diet and sex have on body image dissatisfaction was
investigated using a multiple regression method. The four predictor variables were sex; social media;
diet; and self esteem, the criterion variable was body image dissatisfaction. The study consisted of 50
participants, 35 females and 15 males. All participants were given a self report questionnaire, which
contained 16 questions that measured the four predictor variables and the criterion variable. The
findings revealed that the social media, diet and self esteem had a significant relationship with body
image dissatisfaction, however sex was a non significant predictor of body image dissatisfaction. The
results imply that the social media, low self esteem and dieting results to high levels of body image
dissatisfaction.

The Rising Sun and Death be not Proud by John Donne Essay
In this essay I will mainly focus on two poems written by John Donne, The Rising Sun and Death be
not proud. These poems were written during the Elizabethan era, which was an era mainly
characterized by love and colonialism, on separate terms of course. These principles often influenced
poets who lived during this period. Their poetry acts as testimonies of their underlying thoughts and
desires. Furthermore, metaphysical poets deliver a more divine and profound perspective to their
poetry. Within their conceits, they manage to engage and delight themselves in deeper movements.
This essay will further discuss how John Donne used death and the sun to his disposal. I will also

Eternal life thus defeats death and throughout the poem, John s strong background of Christianity
allows him to associate death with temporary entities as he refers to death as a state of much pleasure
(7). Death is conceptualized as a phase rather than an element which represents finality. Death is
personified and therefore has no greater power over human beings. Death losses its fearful connotation
and achieves a new meaning that makes it less intimidating and less powerful. The central theme,
introduced quite early within the poem, is the helplessness of death. Throughout the poem the speaker
belittles death and approaches it with such bravery and poise. Donne confronts death by saying it is
not in any regard mighty and dreadful (2), but rather brings much pleasure (7). Death is personified in
the poem, and in this regard, possess no greater power over man. The speaker of the poem is Donne
himself. He uses his literary tools of rhetoric and poetic devices to belittle death. Throughout the
poem, the speaker comes across as being slightly arrogant, but he refuses to show weakness. His
arrogance shows that he is not afraid of death as he demands death not to be proud. Donne takes the
association of death and sleep, and reinvents this comparison to a greater effect. He describes sleep as
being pictures (5) of death and death is no more different or more frightening. He extends this
metaphor throughout the poem. In the second last line of the poem he

The Growing Ideological Gap Between The United States’
The growing ideological gap between the United States two major political parties, in other words,
rising levels of political polarization, has had a negative impact on American politics as it results in
Congressional inefficient, public apathy, and economic inequality. The United States has maintained
its two party system for some time, but the major parties have not always been so clearly separated. In
the early and mid twentieth century, polarization was actually declining, as there was much
ideological overlap between the members of the two parties (Kuo). Many people, such as conservative
Democrats and liberal Republicans, rested in the ideological middle. Additionally, each party
represented a coalition of diverse interests. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polarization in the United States today exists on two levels: polarization in the electorate and
polarization in the elite. While separate, these two groups are perpetually intertwined. Polarization in
the electorate refers to the movement of voters toward ideological extremes, and the ideological gap
between voters on either side has been increasing in recent decades (Kuo). A study conducted by Pew
Research Center in 2014 confirms the proliferation of polarization in the electorate: it found that since
1994, voters agree more intensely with their party s policies and view the policies of the opposing
party as a threat to the nation s well being ( Political Polarization ). One factor that has led to this
increase is the utilization of new technologies by the media, which allow voters to access more
information than ever before. This broad scope of available information allows the public to be
selective in what they consume (Kuo). As a result, many people participate in confirmation bias,
meaning they seek out sources that share their beliefs; this strengthens their preexisting opinions and
their level of partisanship. Another factor that increases political polarization in the electorate is
geography. Republican voters tend to live in suburbs or rural areas, while Democrat voters are more
likely to live in urban areas (Kuo). These geographic boundaries impact polarization because

How Popular Fiction Reflects Debates About Gender and...
For the last few decades it is argued to what extent popular fiction reflects such things as social
changes in our society and topical debates. In this paper I will discuss to what extent popular fiction
reflects debates about gender and sexuality. Moreover, I will look at the difference between
postfeminism and third wave feminism, afterwards I will more closely look at Candace Bushnell s
book Sex and the City (1996) and relate the book s ideas about woman and woman s sexuality to
postfeminism and third wave feminism ideas. I will also look at cyber feminism in relation to another

To my mind, Bushnell s book is and definitely were empowering for women. It encourages women to
be in charge of their own lives. It has been argued that for great number of women Bushnell s heroines
are a role model how to live their lives, how to treat themselves and also men.
Firstly, one of the ideas that is in Sex and the City and comes from third wave feminism is that
feminists can wear lip stick, high heals, and low cut necklines and feel like women, but not sexual
objects. Pinkfloor (2005: p.20) emphasises: It s possible to have a push up bra and a brain at the same
time. To my mind, it is an important point to make, because one can still be a feminist and at the same
time be comfortable with their sexuality. What is more, it is an outstanding theme throughout the
Bushnell s book also. Bushnell s heroines are confident women in all spheres of their lives, and about
their sexuality as much about work or relationships. They can go to the sex club for new experiences
(Sex and the City: p.10 16) or dance topless on the bar (Sex and the City: p.88 95). At the same time
they have successful and respectable careers a columnist, English journalist, movie producer, cable
executive, banker and there are mentioned many more. The book also carries a strong message of
female competition, which is characteristic of postfeminism.

One thing that can come with not knowing your husband before you marry him is he could be awful.
In this day and age, we generally get to know a person, even before we decide to be friends with them,

went through years of unhappiness with her husband. Actually, a lot of brides went through a similar

But few Issei women would return, except for brief visits. ( Japanese Picture Brides Recall ). Most
women stayed, living these terrible lives, just so that they would not disappoint their parents. The guilt
of leaving their husband was most times too great for these picture brides to get out of that situation.

Providing High Quality Liquid Assets ( Hqla )
In order to meet its liquidity needs to survive a significantly severe liquidity stress scenario lasting for
a month, Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) s requirement aims to ensure that banking institutions have
sufficient High Quality Liquid Assets (HQLA) that can be readily converted into cash (Lange,
Saunders Cornett, 2015). The LCR is a ratio and firms would be required to keep HQLA equal to at
least 100 percent of total net cash outflows over the next 30 calendar days.
The LCR has been implemented since 1st January 2015, but the minimum requirement was set
starting at 60% and increase in equal annual steps to reach 100% by 1st January 2019. The LCR is
ensured through this approach so that it can be introduced without material disruption to the orderly
strengthening of banking systems.
According to APRA, HQLA includes cash, bank bills and certificates of deposits (CDs) issued by
Financial Intermediaries (FIs) and at call deposits, must be free from encumbrances (Lange et al.,
2015). When Basel III liquidity reforms, LCR does not call for any minimum quantity of cash
reserves, unlike traditional reserve requirements, instead, calls for a minimum quantity of various
HQLA. Besides, LCR differentiates itself through being applied to nearly all bank liabilities, including
derivatives and off balance sheet loan commitments, according to their maturity. With this, it is more
restrictive than conventional reserve requirements, causing it to strive to prevent banks from

Japanese word, which means waste. Then such principle was regarded as lean. The theory of lean is
considered that after eliminating waste, there is an improvement in quality and reduction of time and
cost (Gershon Rajashekharaiah, 2011). After that, lean is used to manufacturing, and adding value and
fulfilling the satisfaction of customers with less waste become the core idea of lean. According to
Ferguson (2006), a successful implement of lean is to lead the whole organization to enhance the
value stream.
There are several tools for lean manufacturing, such as 5S, Just In Time (JIT), Kaizen, total productive
maintenance (TPM) and value stream mapping (leanproduction).
 5S: Sort (to remove the things which are unnecessary needed), Set in order (to arrange the things
which are remained), Shine (clean and check the work space), Standardize (establish metric for the

Homophobic Hate Crime Introduction
The research yielded interesting observations in participants understanding of homophobic hate crime.
The findings of the research revealed that all participants were aware of the term homophobic hate

What Are The Key Triggers Of Violent Conflict In The...
This essay will address important question of what are key triggers of violent conflict in the Middle
East and Asia and how can the Intelligence Community (IC) improve its collection and analytical
efforts in regard to these issues? The challenge to this question is that there are way too many trigger
points to choose from, and the Middle East and Southwest Asia have recently been violent places to
begin with. However, with that being stated, I will list what I estimate as being the top three key
trigger points. One s first presumption is that it would be oil, but it is not. First and foremost is the
trigger of religious tensions and that of the Islamic Jihadist movements. This includes the divide
between Israel and Palestine, the Druse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second trigger would be the impending shortage of water and how it will rapidly grow into a
major conflict. This is not an if, but a when it will occur. The third is the monitoring of the Joint
Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which is the international agreement on the nuclear program
of Iran reached in Vienna on 14 July 2015 between Iran, the P5+1 and the European Union. How the
IC and analytical communities address these key trigger points is problematic. Just how can the IC
improve its collection and analytical efforts against the monitoring and analysis of the high value
targets related to ISIL movements? These movements are mainly individual human in nature, so the
most plausible collection that can be used is the employment of Human Intelligence (HUMINT). This
can be accomplished by covert or overt means. However, entry or recruitment in these secular arenas
has been, and continues to be extremely challenging. The

  • 2. Dr Faustus Essay Him, Himself, and Faustus Status and recognition what means an individual is willing to surpass to achieve those ends is evident in Western society s praise of celebrities and their fame, whilst trivializing tragic events and those responsible with talking points. For some, it does not matter how their name is recognized in history or discussed by those who know them, but that their name is merely spoken of at all. Surely then, a society which rewards individuals for their infamous, grotesque acts with recognition, and then fails to effectively address the issue at hand, might find that such incidents occur more and more frequently. This drive is seen time and time again throughout both texts: from conjuring the spirit of Alexander the Great for Emperor Charles V (4.1.63 4; 4.1.99 101), to producing ripe grapes when not in season for the Duke of Vanholt and the pregnant Duchess (4.2.12 7; 4.6.19 23). Clearly, this drive is best demonstrated through Faustus himself when asked by his fellow scholars to summon Helen of Troy in the B text: Gentlemen, for that I know your friendship is unfeigned, It is not Faustus custom to deny The just request of those that wish him well. You shall behold that peerless dame of Greece (5.1.18 21). Faustus strong desire to impress others doubtlessly derives from his fear of being rejected by those of high stature in society; he wishes to belong with them and not from whence he came. Furthermore, Stephen Orgel notes in Magic and Power in Doctor Faustus , that although Faustus has unlimited power, he only conjures what is asked of him, never striving beyond or testing his boundaries, and that this represents two major flaws within Faustus: an artistic failure of imagination and a scholarly failure of originality (396). Both failures stem from Faustus only doing what he is told, merely fulfilling what is asked of him, so that he may, for a while, share their acclaim and status. If Faustus were truly empowered or secure in his own abilities, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When any public company becomes private, then in that company the investor cannot purchase a stake. In Pakistan, the process of privatization was a program of policy measures in the economic period of Pakistan. The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has first conceived and implemented the idea of privatization, in order to enable the nationalized companies and industries towards market economy. It has initiated 1989 90 immediately just after the economic collapse of Soviet Union. The program has visualized and envisaged, to enhance the growth of GDP of the national economy of Pakistan (Khan, 2010). How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents How cultural transitioning affected the Garcia Family Cultural shock is a common feeling a person experiences when transitioning into a completely different environment and living situation. Throughout the world, immigrants experience many difficulties when assimilating into a new culture. The novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, by Julia Alvarez, illustrates these challenges. Throughout the novel, we see how different aspects of culture shock impact the Garcia family. In this essay I will discuss how particular events change each family member s Dominican cultural values and identity. As a result of these American problems the mother decides to move the family into boarding schools in order to avoid these cultural conflicts. Discrimination is a common problem foreign students face when initially transitioning into a foreign countries school. Several aspects of educational institutions in America are much different from those in the Dominican, and these differences create tension and conflict among foreign students and native peers. Several of the events that the Garcia girls experienced are common negative aspects of cultural integration. Harassment and discrimination are common forms of cultural conflicts that occur between two opposing cultures. Cultural values that have become forged into a person s life usually remain with them for long periods of time. In this case, the Garcia girls were unable to completely adjust their perspectives of Dominican values to accommodate to their Americanized living situation. They held on to their traditional Dominican values, which conflicted with American culture. As a result, they experienced harassment and discrimination. The relationship between Yolanda and Rudy exemplified a negative aspect of cultural conflict. For instance in the 3rd issue (2009 2010) the poet Katie Blakely in her poem Dissection, depicts a love story in which the narrator is speaking to her lover and telling him what exactly she loves about him. She says I really do love the little things in life, like your voice.. (West 10th, 3 57). Also in the most recent issue this theme of love is consistent. • 7. The Story Of The Movie The Great Gatsby And Snow... Heroes are found everywhere when Disney is involved. From a prince or princess to secretive toys to the smallest forms of life on earth, a hero can be found in anyone. Being attached to one or a few is entirely common. These certain characters may be the ones they look up to. Young girls often choose to look up to a princess, although, they are not what they were over 50 years ago. The very first Disney princess, Snow White, is purely a damsel in distress. The same goes for Aurora who appeared in Sleeping Beauty years later. As the years have gone on, that weaker vision of a princess has faded. The modern day princesses are anything but damsels needing to be saved by a man. Rapunzel chooses to give up her freedom in order to save Flynn Rider s life. Tiana works hard to provide for herself so she can chase her dream. Merida rejects what everyone else thinks she should be and is true to herself. Elsa only needs the love from her sister. This list will only get bigger as Disney continues to create these young female heroines. If anything, Disney is preaching to young girls everywhere to be strong in a world that may play on their faults or weaknesses. During a time strong feminist movements, Disney manages to satisfy demands by allowing the girl to be the hero. Though Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are still timeless classics, the princesses of today set a better example for young girls everywhere and that is why they seem to be more attractive than the originals. • 8. The Effect Of Body Condition On Postpartum Interval Introduction There has been a long history of the effect of body condition on postpartum interval; however, there have been limited reports to elucidate the interaction between body condition score and follicular populations and how this affects postpartum interval. Postpartum Interval is defined as the period of sexual rest during which the reproductive system is mainly quiescent. Follicular development is minimal; the corpora lutea, although identifiable, have regressed and are non functional. Secretions are scanty and viscous, the cervix is constricted, and the vaginal mucosa is pale (Sheldon, 2002). A major obstacle in maintaining a 12 mo calving interval for beef producers, particularly for those using Brahman females, is the long duration of the postpartum anestrous period. In order to curb this, a postpartum animal must recover from the suppressive effects of gestation and parturition on the pituitary, ovarian and endocrine systems (Browning et al., 1994). Pituitary and ovarian function in suckled beef cows may return within 4 to 5 wk after calving (McNatty, 1988; Wright et al., 1990). Nutrition is a major factor controlling the length of the postpartum acyclicity (Randel, 1990). When an animal gains or losses body condition the amount of leptin in blood is changed (Amstalden et al., 2000; Amstalden et al., 2005), due to the increase in adipocytes, thus affecting the release of GnRH; and thereby affecting oogenesis, follicular maturation and ovulation (Gentry et ... The Prostitute In Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, and The Meek One The prostitute is a curious fixture of Victorian era literature. In the works of William Thackeray and Samuel Richardson it was almost cliché for the heroine to end up in a house of prostitution and then to transcend that situation in a show of proper Victorian morals. Having seen many young women forced by extreme poverty to take up the trade of a loose woman, Fyodor Dostoevsky, a petit bourgeois fallen on hard times himself, took a rather different approach to the whole issue; he recognized that these women were not utterly without merit as so many people of the time thought. When he confesses his heinous crime to her, she weeps in sorrow for him and begs him to save himself by confessing. Dostoevsky s point here is that by setting himself anathema from society and God, Raskolnikov is destroying his own spirit. He is not allowing himself to function as he was made to function, and a house divided against itself cannot stand. Just so, Raskolnikov cannot survive as a man in a world turned about and disrupted beyond recognition by his act of violence and societal dissent. Providence is strikingly illustrated here: Raskolnikov cannot survive without Sonia s aid, but neither could Sonia have been redeemed if Raskolnikov had not come along in need of redemption himself; she would have continued on the road to perdition from which her charitable impulses tore her. What is Dostoevsky illustrating here? He is showing us the cruelty of inner struggle and the fact that this struggle can only be won through the power of grace and redemption. Sonia struggles with the fact that she is indeed a house divided. On one hand she is the epitome of wisdom and holiness, and on the other she is the base tool of men s lust. This flagrant contradiction cannot stand; Sonia must choose one path or the other. Raskolnikov also demonstrates this inherent contradiction: he is both pure good and pure evil. The Sound and the Fury is divided into four specific sections that are devoted to the minds of four different characters, specifically Benjamin, Quentin, Jason, and the unknown chapter. In the seventeenth century it was established that the Crown could not set itself above the law by a bare assertion of prerogative. Today, the ultra vires doctrine prevents public authorities from doing anything the law forbids, or taking action for which they have no statutory authority. The term Ultra vires was first generally used to denote excess of legal authority by independent statutory bodies and railway companies in the middle years of nineteenth century,[2] though the main features to the doctrine to which this name was given had already been taking shape over a long period in relation to the powers of common law corporations. Rite Of Initiation In Araby By James Joyce Rite of Initiation Rite of initiation, sounds like something frightening, but in literature a rite or story of initiation does not refer precisely to something of terror. The protagonist of Araby faces experiences for which his previous experiences had not prepared him. In this case the main character enters a new stage of his life (an evolutionary stage), from childhood to adolescence. For this reason, Araby, by James Joyce, should be considered a story of initiation. Considering this, Freud based his theory that a human s behavior is the interaction of three components of the mind: the id, ego, and superego. The id is the utmost primitive; it develops first to cater the needs of the person, and it is also a component of the unconscious mind. The ego is the decision making component of the personality. Furthermore, it is the most reasonable, taking to account, it operates on the principle of reality trying to satisfy its needs. Lastly, the superego. The superego is the segment that reflects the rules taught by parents or guardians. It is the conscious, knowing the difference between right and wrong, also, striving for perfection. His theory of personality, I believe, is the basis of modern day Psychology; with, of course, the aspect of thinking differently from his predecessors. His idea outlined a plethora of advanced ideas known today in the modern world, even though a vast majority of his theories are out of date and considered incorrect by an abounding amount of present day psychologists. Before America?s involvement in the war, on November 9th, 1938, there was a very violent uprising of Reich citizens against the Jewish population orchestrated by Joseph Goebbels. These poems were written during the Elizabethan era, which was an era mainly characterized by love and colonialism, on separate terms of course. These principles often influenced poets who lived during this period. Their poetry acts as testimonies of their underlying thoughts and desires. Furthermore, metaphysical poets deliver a more divine and profound perspective to their poetry. Within their conceits, they manage to engage and delight themselves in deeper movements. This essay will further discuss how John Donne used death and the sun to his disposal. I will also critically analyse the two poems as well grasp on external aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eternal life thus defeats death and throughout the poem, John s strong background of Christianity allows him to associate death with temporary entities as he refers to death as a state of much pleasure (7). Death is conceptualized as a phase rather than an element which represents finality. Death is personified and therefore has no greater power over human beings. Death losses its fearful connotation and achieves a new meaning that makes it less intimidating and less powerful. The central theme, introduced quite early within the poem, is the helplessness of death. Throughout the poem the speaker belittles death and approaches it with such bravery and poise. Donne confronts death by saying it is not in any regard mighty and dreadful (2), but rather brings much pleasure (7). Death is personified in the poem, and in this regard, possess no greater power over man. The speaker of the poem is Donne himself. He uses his literary tools of rhetoric and poetic devices to belittle death. Throughout the poem, the speaker comes across as being slightly arrogant, but he refuses to show weakness. His arrogance shows that he is not afraid of death as he demands death not to be proud. Donne takes the association of death and sleep, and reinvents this comparison to a greater effect. He describes sleep as being pictures (5) of death and death is no more different or more frightening. He extends this metaphor throughout the poem. In the second last line of the poem he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Polarization in the United States today exists on two levels: polarization in the electorate and polarization in the elite. While separate, these two groups are perpetually intertwined. Polarization in the electorate refers to the movement of voters toward ideological extremes, and the ideological gap between voters on either side has been increasing in recent decades (Kuo). A study conducted by Pew Research Center in 2014 confirms the proliferation of polarization in the electorate: it found that since 1994, voters agree more intensely with their party s policies and view the policies of the opposing party as a threat to the nation s well being ( Political Polarization ). One factor that has led to this increase is the utilization of new technologies by the media, which allow voters to access more information than ever before. This broad scope of available information allows the public to be selective in what they consume (Kuo). As a result, many people participate in confirmation bias, meaning they seek out sources that share their beliefs; this strengthens their preexisting opinions and their level of partisanship. Another factor that increases political polarization in the electorate is geography. Republican voters tend to live in suburbs or rural areas, while Democrat voters are more likely to live in urban areas (Kuo). These geographic boundaries impact polarization because ... It has been argued that for great number of women Bushnell s heroines are a role model how to live their lives, how to treat themselves and also men. Firstly, one of the ideas that is in Sex and the City and comes from third wave feminism is that feminists can wear lip stick, high heals, and low cut necklines and feel like women, but not sexual objects. Pinkfloor (2005: p.20) emphasises: It s possible to have a push up bra and a brain at the same time. To my mind, it is an important point to make, because one can still be a feminist and at the same time be comfortable with their sexuality. What is more, it is an outstanding theme throughout the Bushnell s book also. Bushnell s heroines are confident women in all spheres of their lives, and about their sexuality as much about work or relationships. They can go to the sex club for new experiences (Sex and the City: p.10 16) or dance topless on the bar (Sex and the City: p.88 95). The LCR is a ratio and firms would be required to keep HQLA equal to at least 100 percent of total net cash outflows over the next 30 calendar days. The LCR has been implemented since 1st January 2015, but the minimum requirement was set starting at 60% and increase in equal annual steps to reach 100% by 1st January 2019. Through using lean management, Henry Ford create a high production and low stock, and fulfilled manufacture in a short period of time in the late 1910s (Arnheiter Maleyeff, 2005). The original principle of lean production is to identify and eliminate muda . The term of muda is a Japanese word, which means waste. Then such principle was regarded as lean. The theory of lean is considered that after eliminating waste, there is an improvement in quality and reduction of time and cost (Gershon Rajashekharaiah, 2011). After that, lean is used to manufacturing, and adding value and fulfilling the satisfaction of customers with less waste become the core idea of lean.
