The Influence Of The Renaissance
The Renaissance is an important part of history because it was seen as the start of the new modern era.
It is plausible to give this time such a title, since it portrayed a largely profound influence on the eras
to follow. Never before (or since) had there been such a coming together of art, science and
philosophy (The Renaissance why it changed the world). During the Renaissance, many new ideas
and inventions emerged. The popularity of inventing was a result of social needs among various
people in societies and other cultures through the development of the modern era (Salisbury). THESIS
The Renaissance explored many new ideas in a variety of topics such as; culture, politics, science, and
an improved type of intelligence in individuals (The Renaissance why it changed the world). The
spread of these ideas began in Europe in the 14th century (Salisbury). As the philosophies of the
Renaissance spread across Europe, they evolved to match local cultural thinking, while still remaining
true to its core meaning. These ideas brought diplomatic excursions, war, exploration, trade, and
marriage. It had a kind of snowball effect: each new intellectual advance paved the way for further
advancements. Even the art during this time was different. There was a larger focus on human
anatomy as a result of the influence of realism and the desire to capture the world as it was (The
Renaissance why it changed the world).
Sciences during this time were being developed under Copernicus and Galileo. Separately, these two
scientists had developed an understanding of Earth s place in the universe and proved that all planets
revolved around the sun (The Renaissance why it changed the world). Other scientific advances were
discovered through chemistry and mathematics through the development of gunpower and a new
financial trading system that made it simpler to navigate across the world (The Renaissance why it
changed the world).
These new advances were so successfully spread due to one specific invention, the printing press. In
1440, Gitenberg introduced this machine to the world, and for the first time ever books could be mass
produced. Renaissance philosophers were able to print mass copies of their discoveries and

How Do Fuel Cells Work
How fuel cells work A fuel cell is a device that produces an electrical current through a chemical
reaction. All fuel cells contain a cathode and an anode, which are positive and negative electrodes,
respectively. The chemical reactions which produce electricity occur at the electrodes. Fuel cells also
contain an electrolyte, which carries electrically charged particles between the electrodes. A catalyst
also aids to speed up the chemical reaction at the electrodes. In fuel cells, an impurity must serve as
the electrolyte; if one uses distilled water for this experiment, it could serve only as the control,
because purified water does not contain any substances that react at the electrodes. Some examples of
impurities used as electrolytes in various types of fuel cells include ... Show more content on

It consists of using hydrogen and hydroxyl ions to create electricity and end up with potable water.
This method very useful aboard spacecrafts allowing them to stay in space for a longer amount of time
because they can create their own water. The next most common type is molten carbonate the
electrolyte in this is carbonate salts. However this type of fuel cell tends to be slightly less efficient
due to the fact that they have to be melted before they can be used. Having a liquid electrolyte can be
difficult to handle and time consuming. It is however useful seeing as it refreshes the electrolyte
through every cycle.
The last form of fuel cells available is PEM (or Proton Exchange Membrane). The electrolyte for this
is a very thin polymer sheet. Unfortunately, this type can be extremely expensive because it is required
to have a platinum catalyst. A temperature of eighty degrees celsius must also be reached. This fuel
cell still resembles the basic form. It requires hydrogen atoms which have been striped from their
electrons, and the electrons pass through the exterior circuit, which creates electricity. At the end, it
meets with air to create

Globalization And Technology Strategy Assignment
Globalization and Technology Strategy Assignment Paper 1:
Examples of IT efforts that run, grow, or transform the business it serves
Hung Le
Kent State University
ABSTRACT
Since the introduction of Information Technology, the business world has been transformed. In many
aspects of business, IT contributes remarkably in increasing effective usage of time, efforts and
financial costs. This article is going to outline some examples of IT efforts that run, grow, or transform
the business it serves, thorough increasingly important layers of business operation and management.
Those layers are finance, communication and systems. 1. Finance
Some decades ago, business financial activities were far different from they are now. Transactions
were made using cash or bank notes, which were given directly from hand to hand or sent via mails. It
could take a week for a transaction to be complete due to distance. Orders given to brokers on
financial markets were made through phone or face to face communication. Nowadays, those
activities are totally transformed thanks to Information Technology.
The first examples to be noticed are innovations in banking industry. IT started to transform banking
industry with the introduction of Society for Worldwide Inter bank Financial Telecommunications
(SWIFT) in May 1973. It has developed some systems to provide SWIFT Terminal Services, which
are services transmitting financial messages between banks worldwide. Some of its innovations are

Theme Of Supernatural Elements In The Fall Of The House Of...
Supernatural elements is something that cannot be explained by the laws of nature. These elements,
such as religious figures and activities, ghosts, witches and anthropomorphized animals have been
used to develop themes throughout literature. These supernatural elements are often used to outline the
conflict within the plot and creates an atmosphere of mystery and suspense throughout the text, which
establishes the gothic. Supernatural components leave us to question what is real and what is our
imagination.
In the text The Fall of the House of Usher there are supernatural events throughout the short story.
From the rapidly decaying house that is quite literally connected to the main character Roderick
Usher, to the ghost of Roderick s twin sister Madeline. House of Usher an appellation which seemed
to include, in the minds of the peasantry who used it, both the family and the family mansion. This
line gives us a hint from the title toward the supernatural link between the physical house collapsing
and the metaphorical fall of the Usher Family. I believe Edgar Poe did this to evoke an uncanny
feeling in the reader and to add to the sublime of the short story. This link between living and
inanimate gives the story an extra gothic element. There was blood upon her white robes, and the
evidence of some bitter struggle upon every portion of her emaciated frame. For a moment she
remained trembling and reeling to and fro upon the threshold then, with a low moaning cry, fell
heavily inward upon the person of her brother, and in her violent and now final death agonies, bore
him to the floor a corpse, and a victim to the terrors he had anticipated. The supernatural element of
Madeline coming back from the dead or being a ghost creates conflict within the plot and therefore
leads to the inevitable fall of the Usher Family. I believe this ghostly figure struck fear into the reader
creating a suspenseful follow up, allowing the imagination to take off and picture this supernatural
occurrence. This was never an explained supernatural event. It was left up to the reader s imagination
and their assumption as to what is real and what is a figment of the characters imagination. There was

The Purpose of Sati in Jane Eyre Essay
The general image of Sati and the reasoning that surrounded it filled the Western imagination with
repulsion as well as admiration. In the nineteenth century, Westerners publishing diaries of their
travels always included their experiences when viewing Sati. Although these travelers, usually men,
watched with horror, they also admired the courage and the dignity of the women involved (Hawley
3). What was known in England of Sati was from the accounts of the colonial officials and travelers
who witnessed it (Courtright 28). It would not surprise one to assume that Charlotte Bronte, in her
drive for knowledge and her stand on women s freedom, would have taken an interest in such an act;
and indeed she incorporates it in Jane Eyre. In 1829, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nothing has excited the attention of the Europeans than the burning of wives upon the funeral piles of
their husbands (Perera 91). Another important aspect of the act of Sati was that it became an element
in the vindication of British Imperialism . . . and was also used as a moral justification to the Britishers
to impose their rule on India (Perera 92).
With an attempt to distinguish between the old and the new, Charlotte Bronte creates the character of
Bertha Mason as the exhibition of female repression and desire frequently found in the East. Bertha
Rochester is the emblem of Eastern society, one which the British see as static and barbaric, and Jane
Eyre is representative of the Western Civilization. In Reaches of Empire, Suvendrini Perera argues
that if the barely human prisoner caged in the Thornfield attic is the truest expression of women s
anger and aspiration . . . [it is overlooked] that she is also the racial Other incarnate a bestial, violent
creature with an inordinate sexual appetite, caught in the colonized West Indies and confined for her
own good by a master who has appropriated both her body and her wealth (82). If the reader only sees
Bertha as the surrogate of Jane, one neglects to take note of the enriching importance of the text s
suppression of Bertha. Charlotte Bronte presents Bertha as a sexually vigorous woman. This can be
seen when Rochester indirectly describes

Essay on The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz Duddy is No Monster
I think you re rotten, says Yvette at the end of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, I wish you were
dead (Richler 318). This sentiment is echoed throughout a substantial amount of the criticism of
Mordecai Richler s tale. At best, we question whether Duddy has learned anything during his
apprenticeship; at worst, we accuse him of taking a tremendous step backwards, of becoming an
utterly contemptible human being. When Duddy steals money from his friend and admirer, Virgil, to
pay for the final parcel of land around Lac St. Pierre, it may seem that he has sunk to a low from
which he may never recover; but careful consideration of the events leading up to the theft, the ...

The force of Max s storytelling teaches Duddy that the Boy Wonder is someone to be emulated. In
Duddy Kravitz, from Apprentice to Legend, Grant McGregor describes Duddy s life as apprenticeship
to a perverted myth (McGregor 133), and in many ways this is true. Although he presents an image of
success, and Max Kravitz s tales make him out to be the ultimate accomplished businessman, Jerry
Dingleman is a corrupt, cruel person. For his entire life, Duddy has been told that he will never
succeed, but he is resilient. With the Boy Wonder as his example, Duddy intends to prove everyone
wrong. He liked to think, in fact, that point for point he was a lot like the Boy Wonder before he had
made his name (62). The audience is made aware, fairly early on, that the Boy Wonder is a crook, but
this information eludes Duddy until far into the story, when Duddy has already achieved some
measure of success by his own means, part of it by the trickery he mastered during his high school
years, but now that he has matured quite a bit, also by sheer hard work.
Duddy fights a continual uphill battle for success; he wants to be someone of whom his father is
proud, like his brother Lennie, or the Boy Wonder himself. To Irwin Shubert and the other waiters at
Rubin s Hotel Lac des Sables in Ste. Agathe des Monts, There [was] nothing that little fiend wouldn t
do for a dollar (77), but Duddy was interested in success even more than money, not for the sheer
material joy

The morality of Louis Zamperini has been through wretched situations. As his morality was it was

morality was different in time of his life. As a kid his morality didn t manifest until high school and

What Are The Similarities Between Ancient Greece And Rome
The Classical Periods of China, Greece, and Rome had complex, organized political structures due to
being notably expansive. The development of each civilization s government systems varied based on
location, economy, and cultural values. A successful government required maintaining the service to
the people, stability and urban growth. Whereas, the downfall of an empire was usually caused by
economic recessions, internal rebellions, or outside invasions. While China s pattern of political
control was strengthened by a series of dynasties containing emperors and bureaucrats, Greece and
Rome were dominated by the ruling of aristocrats with democratic components as well as tyrannies.
The unfavorable outcomes of these civilizations were affected by their ... Show more content on

Overtime, a dynasty grew weaker and tax revenues declined which developed social divisions. As
China expanded, it became harder to secure boundaries. The most significant vulnerability of China s
political structure was allowing excessive power. The Zhou dynasty collapsed due to relying on
alliances with regional princes and noble families which caused the central government to be ignored.
The Qin dynasty weakened because of Shi Huangdi s brutal attacks on culture and high taxes which
lead to an enormous peasant rebellion. The central control of the Han dynasty fell to the expansion of
corrupt bureaucrats causing invasions by the Huns. China required a balance of authority. Greece had
a mountainous landscape so it was hard to develop a single central government. Greece s typical
political organization were city states that used direct democracies. Each city state had a different

People with disabilities have long suffered from discrimination and segregation. In the 1880, people
with hearing, visual, physical, mental or emotional impairments were sent to be educated in residential
institutions or asylums. ( Issues about Change) Parents and family of those with disabilities put
pressure on our government and legislation to develop and provide equal access to education by way
of mainstreaming or special education. Section 504 of Public Law 93 112 passed in 1973 had far

Teaching students with exceptional abilities requires funding, training and planning. Being in a regular
classroom with children from various cultures, ethnic backgrounds and intellectual ability help
students learn how to work together toward a common goal: reduce discrimination and stereotyping
people with physical and mental limitations. Instructional strategies that break the work down so
everyone learns better can improve education as well as reduce cost. This is achieved by including
special education students in environments that will allow them to develop normal social interactions
as well as receive specific attention to their learning needs. ( What is Special Education ) Children
with disabilities need to be recognized as individuals as well as be valued for the people they will
grow to be. In the classroom the growing process can be difficult to achieve depending on the nature
and severity of the disability. Not all children will be served by full inclusion, some students have
disabilities that require medical attention or physical facilities such as specially equipped bathrooms,
ramps or elevators that may not be found in the traditional school building. For example, a child with
severe cerebral palsy with severe limb constriction, lack of bowel control, inability to feed themselves
and confined to a wheelchair, inclusion could cause more harm than good. This student requires

Ever After Irwing Summary
Ever After by H.M. Irwing is a romance novel that follows the story of Cindy Marshall and Julian St.
John. Cindy was born to a millionaire father who abandoned her and her terminally ill mother when
she was a child. The story picks up with her fresh out of school with an Economics degree. However,
the only job she is able to get is that of a waitress in an elite night club owned by the self made
billionaire, Julian St. John. Julian instantly falls for Cindy after rescuing her from attempted gang
rape. However, he needs a creative plan to win the heart of the woman who no longer believes in love
and marriage. I found this book hard to read for a number of reasons, the biggest being the numerous
errors in the book. Many are more common errors such as the confusion between homophones, while
others are much worse such as the repeating of the same phrase in a sentence. ... Show more content

I feel that the storyline lacks ups and downs. Every time a new discovery is made by one of the
characters or conflict arises it feels irrelevant. To me, Julian was a very confusing character. In the first
few meetings between him and Cindy, his motives are very unclear and he only says about 2
sentences. I found this very frustrating; it felt like the story was standing still and had no point. Even
though the story is told from Cindy s point of view, I feel that the author could have made bigger
effort to make Julian more understandable to the reader. Something else that created confusion was
that he was always referred to as The Dark Prince or The Monk, seldomly as Julian. Even though
Julian s character was poorly displayed, I feel that the author put a lot of thought into the characters of
Cindy s step siblings, especially her brothers. Their characters were well described, each one was
unique and their relationships with Cindy were very

Cultural Differences Between Eastern And Western Culture
The cultural differences can cause some problems when people is communicating especially between
Eastern and Western culture because those two cultures are usually considered completely opposite
and the differences that cause the problems can be the different levels of dignity, different life style
and something. And those differences are mainly caused by different sentiment depends on how they
were taught which is more value and what they were seeing while they were growing up. The different
levels of self regard between Eastern and Western people is considered that one of the biggest
difference. Eastern people tend to think they should be super polite on a person who is older than them
or higher status than them even the people put themselves down to shows respect to others. While, the
Western people prefer to have causal relationship with people who are in a same group. According to a
website topyaps.com,
In the Eastern cultures, the leader assumes supreme status. He has a great bearing on the general
public. This comes from the fact that in Eastern culture a technically greater man is often elevated to
God like status irrespective of his worth. While in the Western cultures, the concept of equality is
taken more seriously and a leader is just one among the rest. He is not looked as above and over the
general public. (Dhar, 2013)
Therefore, it is possible that people who from Eastern country and moved to Western country or from
Western country and moved to Eastern country feel weird when they are faced with different situation
that they are not used to. Also, Eastern people is inclined to conceal their feeling especially when they
feel uncomfortable to avoid conflict. They are not good at expressing their emotions even they hardly
express their feelings. But, in the Western societies, it is completely acceptable to express strong
emotions. So, Western people would be good at expressing what they feel, think and want. An article
that written by Paul Nethercott (2015) said
Saving face is a value inherent in the culture of Japan and plays a part in why Japanese do not show

About the competitiveness issue of Adnams, it can be seen on the case that Andy Wood (Managing

is run by two families, which means it also has strong family control, in addition, Adnams more focus

Rapid Industrialization Benefits
I think rapid industrialization improved the lives of many Americans, I definitely think the benefits of
progress are worth the cost. When technological innovation came along it created an economic and
social change. It created three classes such as the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class.
Until industrialization came along there were only two classes. Therefore I think it improved the lives
of all Americans. During the industrialization it created three classes. The upper class was made up
factory owners. Many of them spent their money on big homes, with many rooms. They also arranged
marriages for their families members. The working middle class were for the most part people from

Preserving Biological Evidence
The collection of biological evidence at a crime scene is vital to the success of the overall case.
Biological evidence is extremely sensitive and requires handle with care during its collection.
Preserving biological evidence is also a significant task as well, and attention must be taken to ensure
the preservation of any and all biological evidence in the exact state from its original collection
location. Many types of biological evidence can be found at a crime scene and in this essay, we will

procedures are to ensure the safety of each sample.

Before an investigator begins the gathering of evidence, they must keep in mind that they must treat
the site in a professional manner. Biological evidence must go through the photographic process first.
The location and its relativity to the crime scene must first go through the process of photographs,
sketches, and notes before it receives disruption. Different positions and shapes of bloodstains can
provide additional information to the crime. Furthermore, an immediate evaluation of any blood
evidence is may be necessary. Only an expert should be called to perform an on site overview of the
crime scene to predict the criminal activity and movements of the persons involved. It is not
acceptable to collect blood samples or DNA samples before the expert completes this task. The

Samurai Professional Warriors
The samurai were the professional warriors that ruled Japan for about 700 years, from the end of the
12th century until the middle of the 19th century. The term samurai originates from the verb saburau,
meaning to serve as attendant to a person of nobility (Mcgee 1). In the Heian era, (ca. 792 1192),
samurai referred to the warriors guarding the Emperor and court nobles, but later the term started to be
used to refer to all professional warriors. From the end of the Heian era, the samurai were men who
transformed into local feudal lords and came to combine forces with the landlords. By the beginning
of the 12th century, the Japanese Imperial court were hiring these men and delegating military
responsibilities to them, and the samurai became

Determining The Molarity Of a Potato Cytoplasm
Determining the Molarity of a potato cytoplasm
An Experiment to find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm.
Aim: To find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm compared to sucrose and salt. I mainly was
looking to see how concentration of salt/sucrose affects the mass of the potato cores.
Prediction/Hypothesis:
My prediction is that as the concentration increases, the potato cell will lose more weight. This is
because of the osmosis of water particles from the potato cell cytoplasm to the solution, resulting in a
loss of weight. As the concentration decreases, the potato will lose less weight until a certain point
where the osmosis of particles in and out of the potato cells will be equal. I also predict that as the salt

I sprayed more water into my beaker to dissolve any remaining salt particles.
I then repeated this until all of the salt was in the volumetric flask.
Next, I poured distilled water just below the 250ml mark on the neck of the volumetric flask.
Thereafter I used a pipette to meticulously drop in water up to the 250ml mark.
Finally I put the bung in the volumetric flask, and I relentlessly inverted it to fully mix the solution.
Fair Test
I will make sure that my tests are fair because I will:
Use Equal widths of potato core each time by using the same corer. This is important because if I used
a different corer, the potato core might come out as a different width. This could be because of rust, or
maybe even the thickness of the metal.
Repeat each concentration of sodium chloride solution 5 times to achieve a more accurate average.
This is important because it can help me to detect any anomalies in my data caused by mistakes or
errors. Identifying these mistakes can help to strengthen my investigation and reduce the amount of
anomalous results.
Make sure the Classroom temperature is the same each time I do the investigation. This is because; a
higher classroom temperature can increase the rate of reaction resulting in results that do not form a
pattern.
Use Equal lengths of potato core each time (5cm). It is very important

Fast Food Case Study
Background Fast food restaurant has expanded more than ever before. According to MPR News, fast
food restaurant sales make up over 50 percent of restaurant sales in France. France is known to be the
second largest fast food consumer after the United States (Amy Guttman, 2013). Burger King has
reentered the French market after closing down 39 stores 16 years ago (Amy Guttman, 2013). Not
only has the number of fast food locations have increased but the numbers of French cafes have
dropped sufficiently by nearly 84 percent since the World War II (Amy Guttman, 2013). Fast food
restaurant has also grown due to the lunch hour time collapsing from 80 minutes to about 22 minutes,
making them much more convenient than traditional restaurants (Amy Guttman, 2013). Fast food
restaurants such as Panda Express have grown from a small local restaurant in 1983 of Glendale,
California to a global multi billion dollar fast food chain. Creator of the famous Orange Chicken,
Panda Express has continued to serve tasty and quality foods. Expanding in the United States, Panda
Express has now reached international location such as Medico, South Korea and Dubai (Vanessa
Hua, 2015). As a family owned business of over 1,800 stores (Vanessa Hua, 2015), Andrea Cherng,

Budget Planning And Control Management
Budget Planning and Control
According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management s plans for a specified
future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company
command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic
and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such
as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations.
The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which
to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010).
Budgeting forms the baseline for a company s future performance. Managers create the budget
anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers calculate
revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the budget arrives,
the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the department s
performance (Bragg, 2010).
Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and
bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation of
the power plant was limited by the supply of

3) In what ways did Charles Hamilton Houston and W.E.B. DuBois differ in their approaches to
school integration? Why? [Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra lines if

prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial restraint, whereas legal
realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in those that worked with Houston,
but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil injustices wherever possible. DuBois
approached school integration and civil rights issues through militant socialism. He believed that
blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure in order to gain a better social structure. This didn
t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that Houston had a better approach to the issue of school
integration because his approach was accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by
saying that blacks needed to create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in
society. 4) The Supreme Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v. Oklahoma State Regents in

Examples Of Context And Textual Evidence
Evidence (Context and Textual Evidence) Inference Commentary

Evidence: He had burned several times to enlist. Tales of great movements shook the land. They might
not be distinctly Homeric, but there seemed to be much glory in them. He had read of marches, sieges,
conflicts, and he had longed to see it all. His busy mind had drawn for him large pictures extravagant
in color, lurid with breathless deeds (Crane 3).

Commentary: Henry wanted to join the army because he had a romanticized idea of war, and he
wanted to be a great man. This shows his courage, but also shows how young he is.

When people are in a center like environment for example a mall then it is easier to pick whatever

would have an upper hand if it is one of the foods available.
Burger King is headquartered in Miami, because of its near proximity to Latin America. This strategic
position has allowed Burger King to ensure its presence in the Latin community. The South Americans
who make a pit stop in Miami in order to enter the United States are familiarize themselves with the
Burger King products, and Burger King is also able to test the products on indigenous Latin
community, before expanding to the Latin countries without the fear of undergoing rejection. This
location in Miami has simplified their entry into the Latin countries and businesses seeking franchises

Latin countries, but we find that these countries are not heavily populated; they should also try to

1984 Personal Response Essay
Fear is something all humans share. This unity of having fear connects all of us together, along with
many other things. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears. In
the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of
which I can say I fear myself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me to
fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern about the truth of history and
truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you, and not being allowed to have real
emotions except towards the government are all fears brought on in the novel, especially with the
implications of the ending. As much as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Trifles And A Doll House
The plot of both Susan Glaspell s Trifles and Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House provides scope for a few
scenes that lack the presence of all or any men. These scenes, consisting of communication between
the female characters, assist in developing the theme of women openly defying the fact that the society
they live in is primarily run by men. All the power and authority in their society, no matter the
situation, belongs to the men while the women are simply excluded. The women in these plays defy
the norms set by society and manage to evade the expectations of their patriarchal societies. In Trifles ,
a division between the two sexes is quickly established as the men enter the house and huddle by the
stove while the women remain still by the door. As the men start their detective work the women
wander around the house to gather some of Mrs. Wright s belongings. While searching for her
belongings, the women discover an empty birdcage and find a dead bird in a pretty box (Glaspell, 956)
inside of Mrs. Wright s sewing basket. Mrs. Hale jumps at the sight of the bird s neck and Mrs. Peters
points out how somebody wrung its neck (Glaspell, 957) similar to the way Mr. Wright was found
earlier. Mrs. Wright s murder of her husband can be seen as an act of feminine revolt against the male
dominated society. Another example of women defying against patriarchy is of Mrs. Hale and Mrs.
Peters hiding the evidence that can prove Mrs. Wright to be guilty of her husband s murder. Before
their departure from the Wright s house, as the men are returning, the sheriff suggests that the county
attorney take a look through the items Mrs. Peters had collected for Mrs. Wright. However, he decides
that anything collected by the women cannot have much significance and overlooks it. His assumption
that the women would have came forward if they saw any possible evidence costs him. The sheriff s
belief is that women derive their identity solely from their relationships with men; the dominant
gender.
The sheriff and the county attorney also joke about how Mrs. Peters is basically married to the law
(Glaspell, 959) suggesting that she would not hide anything because she is a devoted follower of the
law. Ironically, she had concealed

Self-Rule In Colonial England
The decision to rebel against England was made in small steps for over a hundred years; self rule was
not a quick change. Many taxation acts from the Brits caused the Colonists to rise up and become
Americans. ( American government , 2015).
Each of the thirteen colonies had a Charter. Charters were an organized group for direct rule by the
King of England. Also with colonial governments there were colonial legislatures. Colonial
legislatures were a body to lead one of the thirteen colonies. Colonial governments had Governors as
well. Governors were appointed by the King of England, and had complete control. This theory got

With Thomas Paine s pamphlet Common Sense in 1776, he debated for political independence from

themselves. They had to pay high taxes to England, and they had no say in parliament of any laws or

the taxes in the new world, the money went to support the mother land ( What is self , 2015). The
Colonists felt they should have a vote in England, but they received no representation, or a say so in
any law making, or governing matters. This is why they wanted to govern themselves. Then they

How Does The Energy Output Of Ethanol And Determine The...
Background Information
Calorimeters are devices used to indirectly calculate the energy output of burning fuels by measuring
the changes of heat in a system which can then be converted to energy by known mathematical
relationships. This investigation seeks to calculate the energy output of Ethanol and determine the
optimal calorimeter apparatus for its combustion considering different types of insulation and the best
substance in the Calorimeter to absorb the heat of the reaction.
Alcohols are an organic compound whose molecule contains one or more of the hydroxyl functional
group ( OH) that is bonded to a carbon atom of an alkyl (Nave, 2014). When alcohol is burnt, a
combustion reaction occurs with the oxygen in the air, releasing energy in the form of heat. The
specific ethanol reaction is as follows:
(ΔH = 1300 kJ/mol)
According to The First Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in a system is constant; it can be
transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed (Purdue, 2004). Energy in
chemical reactions is released as heat, which gets transferred from a substance of higher energy, to that
of a lower energy, most commonly by conduction. Conduction occurs best with metals because their
molecules are close and they can absorb and release energy quickly, whilst mediums like air are
considered insulators because their particles are distanced (Nave, 2014).
The specific heat capacity of the substance provides a means of relating the energy

Diffusion of Osmosis through a Membrane
Introduction
The aim of these experiments are to determine the diffusion of osmosis through a selectively
permeable membrane by using a solute and determining the rate at which concentration moves from
an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration and marking the time taken from the
starting point to the end point. Membranes can be impermeable to larger molecules such as ions and
proteins to pass through where permeable membranes will allow hydrophobic molecules such as lipids
and small molecules like oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide to pass through.
The motive force for the movement of water is the differences in osmotic pressure between ... Show

The percentage indicates the number of grams of solute per 100ml of solution. Secondly, to assemble
the funnel apparatus, you will have to obtain a section of membrane and keep it wet. And then you
will need to place the membrane of the mouth of the funnel and secure it with an elastic band, then
fold the membrane over the first elastic band and secure it with second elastic band. Make sure the
membrane is tight over the mouth of the funnel and it should not leak. The membrane should not be
allowed to get dry during this experiment. Then you need to add one drop of food colouring to your
sugar solution and by doing this it will make it easier to identify the solution in the tube of the thistle
funnel. Then you have to suspend the funnel in the beaker with the mouth of the funnel about 2cm off
the bottom of the beaker. Once done this, you will pour distilled water into the beaker until the water
level is 1cm above the lower rim of the funnel. When you are making the control, you use a dropper to
fill the funnel with coloured distilled water to the first mark which is the lowest point. When you are
making the experiments, you use a dropper to fill the funnel to just below the first mark with the sugar
solution and remember the volume used. You need to watch the movement of the solution and when it
reaches the first mark, make a note of the time because this will be the starting point. The funnel will
be marked at 1mm intervals so allow the solution to rise to exactly 10 mm and make a note of this
time. Once you have done the first replicate empty both funnels and examine the membranes for
damage and then do 2 more replicates using both funnels and both funnels will contain the sugar

  • 3. The Influence Of The Renaissance The Renaissance is an important part of history because it was seen as the start of the new modern era. It is plausible to give this time such a title, since it portrayed a largely profound influence on the eras to follow. Never before (or since) had there been such a coming together of art, science and philosophy (The Renaissance why it changed the world). During the Renaissance, many new ideas and inventions emerged. The popularity of inventing was a result of social needs among various people in societies and other cultures through the development of the modern era (Salisbury). THESIS The Renaissance explored many new ideas in a variety of topics such as; culture, politics, science, and an improved type of intelligence in individuals (The Renaissance why it changed the world). The spread of these ideas began in Europe in the 14th century (Salisbury). As the philosophies of the Renaissance spread across Europe, they evolved to match local cultural thinking, while still remaining true to its core meaning. These ideas brought diplomatic excursions, war, exploration, trade, and marriage. It had a kind of snowball effect: each new intellectual advance paved the way for further advancements. Even the art during this time was different. There was a larger focus on human anatomy as a result of the influence of realism and the desire to capture the world as it was (The Renaissance why it changed the world). Sciences during this time were being developed under Copernicus and Galileo. Separately, these two scientists had developed an understanding of Earth s place in the universe and proved that all planets revolved around the sun (The Renaissance why it changed the world). Other scientific advances were discovered through chemistry and mathematics through the development of gunpower and a new financial trading system that made it simpler to navigate across the world (The Renaissance why it changed the world). These new advances were so successfully spread due to one specific invention, the printing press. In 1440, Gitenberg introduced this machine to the world, and for the first time ever books could be mass produced. Renaissance philosophers were able to print mass copies of their discoveries and ... • 4. How Do Fuel Cells Work How fuel cells work A fuel cell is a device that produces an electrical current through a chemical reaction. All fuel cells contain a cathode and an anode, which are positive and negative electrodes, respectively. The chemical reactions which produce electricity occur at the electrodes. Fuel cells also contain an electrolyte, which carries electrically charged particles between the electrodes. A catalyst also aids to speed up the chemical reaction at the electrodes. In fuel cells, an impurity must serve as the electrolyte; if one uses distilled water for this experiment, it could serve only as the control, because purified water does not contain any substances that react at the electrodes. Some examples of impurities used as electrolytes in various types of fuel cells include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It consists of using hydrogen and hydroxyl ions to create electricity and end up with potable water. This method very useful aboard spacecrafts allowing them to stay in space for a longer amount of time because they can create their own water. The next most common type is molten carbonate the electrolyte in this is carbonate salts. However this type of fuel cell tends to be slightly less efficient due to the fact that they have to be melted before they can be used. Having a liquid electrolyte can be difficult to handle and time consuming. It is however useful seeing as it refreshes the electrolyte through every cycle. The last form of fuel cells available is PEM (or Proton Exchange Membrane). The electrolyte for this is a very thin polymer sheet. Unfortunately, this type can be extremely expensive because it is required to have a platinum catalyst. A temperature of eighty degrees celsius must also be reached. This fuel cell still resembles the basic form. It requires hydrogen atoms which have been striped from their electrons, and the electrons pass through the exterior circuit, which creates electricity. At the end, it meets with air to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Globalization And Technology Strategy Assignment Globalization and Technology Strategy Assignment Paper 1: Examples of IT efforts that run, grow, or transform the business it serves Hung Le Kent State University ABSTRACT Since the introduction of Information Technology, the business world has been transformed. In many aspects of business, IT contributes remarkably in increasing effective usage of time, efforts and financial costs. This article is going to outline some examples of IT efforts that run, grow, or transform the business it serves, thorough increasingly important layers of business operation and management. Those layers are finance, communication and systems. 1. Finance Some decades ago, business financial activities were far different from they are now. Transactions were made using cash or bank notes, which were given directly from hand to hand or sent via mails. It could take a week for a transaction to be complete due to distance. Orders given to brokers on financial markets were made through phone or face to face communication. Nowadays, those activities are totally transformed thanks to Information Technology. The first examples to be noticed are innovations in banking industry. IT started to transform banking industry with the introduction of Society for Worldwide Inter bank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) in May 1973. It has developed some systems to provide SWIFT Terminal Services, which are services transmitting financial messages between banks worldwide. Some of its innovations are ST100 ... • 6. Theme Of Supernatural Elements In The Fall Of The House Of... Supernatural elements is something that cannot be explained by the laws of nature. These elements, such as religious figures and activities, ghosts, witches and anthropomorphized animals have been used to develop themes throughout literature. These supernatural elements are often used to outline the conflict within the plot and creates an atmosphere of mystery and suspense throughout the text, which establishes the gothic. Supernatural components leave us to question what is real and what is our imagination. In the text The Fall of the House of Usher there are supernatural events throughout the short story. From the rapidly decaying house that is quite literally connected to the main character Roderick Usher, to the ghost of Roderick s twin sister Madeline. House of Usher an appellation which seemed to include, in the minds of the peasantry who used it, both the family and the family mansion. This line gives us a hint from the title toward the supernatural link between the physical house collapsing and the metaphorical fall of the Usher Family. I believe Edgar Poe did this to evoke an uncanny feeling in the reader and to add to the sublime of the short story. This link between living and inanimate gives the story an extra gothic element. There was blood upon her white robes, and the evidence of some bitter struggle upon every portion of her emaciated frame. For a moment she remained trembling and reeling to and fro upon the threshold then, with a low moaning cry, fell heavily inward upon the person of her brother, and in her violent and now final death agonies, bore him to the floor a corpse, and a victim to the terrors he had anticipated. The supernatural element of Madeline coming back from the dead or being a ghost creates conflict within the plot and therefore leads to the inevitable fall of the Usher Family. I believe this ghostly figure struck fear into the reader creating a suspenseful follow up, allowing the imagination to take off and picture this supernatural occurrence. This was never an explained supernatural event. It was left up to the reader s imagination and their assumption as to what is real and what is a figment of the characters imagination. • 7. The Purpose of Sati in Jane Eyre Essay The general image of Sati and the reasoning that surrounded it filled the Western imagination with repulsion as well as admiration. In the nineteenth century, Westerners publishing diaries of their travels always included their experiences when viewing Sati. Although these travelers, usually men, watched with horror, they also admired the courage and the dignity of the women involved (Hawley 3). What was known in England of Sati was from the accounts of the colonial officials and travelers who witnessed it (Courtright 28). It would not surprise one to assume that Charlotte Bronte, in her drive for knowledge and her stand on women s freedom, would have taken an interest in such an act; and indeed she incorporates it in Jane Eyre. Another important aspect of the act of Sati was that it became an element in the vindication of British Imperialism . . . and was also used as a moral justification to the Britishers to impose their rule on India (Perera 92). With an attempt to distinguish between the old and the new, Charlotte Bronte creates the character of Bertha Mason as the exhibition of female repression and desire frequently found in the East. Bertha Rochester is the emblem of Eastern society, one which the British see as static and barbaric, and Jane Eyre is representative of the Western Civilization. In Reaches of Empire, Suvendrini Perera argues that if the barely human prisoner caged in the Thornfield attic is the truest expression of women s anger and aspiration . . . [it is overlooked] that she is also the racial Other incarnate a bestial, violent creature with an inordinate sexual appetite, caught in the colonized West Indies and confined for her own good by a master who has appropriated both her body and her wealth (82). If the reader only sees Bertha as the surrogate of Jane, one neglects to take note of the enriching importance of the text s suppression of Bertha. Essay on The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz Duddy is No Monster I think you re rotten, says Yvette at the end of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, I wish you were dead (Richler 318). This sentiment is echoed throughout a substantial amount of the criticism of Mordecai Richler s tale. At best, we question whether Duddy has learned anything during his apprenticeship; at worst, we accuse him of taking a tremendous step backwards, of becoming an utterly contemptible human being. Although he presents an image of success, and Max Kravitz s tales make him out to be the ultimate accomplished businessman, Jerry Dingleman is a corrupt, cruel person. For his entire life, Duddy has been told that he will never succeed, but he is resilient. With the Boy Wonder as his example, Duddy intends to prove everyone wrong. He liked to think, in fact, that point for point he was a lot like the Boy Wonder before he had made his name (62). The audience is made aware, fairly early on, that the Boy Wonder is a crook, but this information eludes Duddy until far into the story, when Duddy has already achieved some measure of success by his own means, part of it by the trickery he mastered during his high school years, but now that he has matured quite a bit, also by sheer hard work. Duddy fights a continual uphill battle for success; he wants to be someone of whom his father is proud, like his brother Lennie, or the Boy Wonder himself. • 14. Cultural Differences Between Eastern And Western Culture The cultural differences can cause some problems when people is communicating especially between Eastern and Western culture because those two cultures are usually considered completely opposite and the differences that cause the problems can be the different levels of dignity, different life style and something. And those differences are mainly caused by different sentiment depends on how they were taught which is more value and what they were seeing while they were growing up. The different levels of self regard between Eastern and Western people is considered that one of the biggest difference. Eastern people tend to think they should be super polite on a person who is older than them or higher status than them even the people put themselves down to shows respect to others. While, the Western people prefer to have causal relationship with people who are in a same group. According to a website topyaps.com, In the Eastern cultures, the leader assumes supreme status. He has a great bearing on the general public. This comes from the fact that in Eastern culture a technically greater man is often elevated to God like status irrespective of his worth. While in the Western cultures, the concept of equality is taken more seriously and a leader is just one among the rest. He is not looked as above and over the general public. (Dhar, 2013) Therefore, it is possible that people who from Eastern country and moved to Western country or from Western country and moved to Eastern country feel weird when they are faced with different situation that they are not used to. Also, Eastern people is inclined to conceal their feeling especially when they feel uncomfortable to avoid conflict. They are not good at expressing their emotions even they hardly express their feelings. But, in the Western societies, it is completely acceptable to express strong emotions. So, Western people would be good at expressing what they feel, think and want. An effective budget gives a company command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations. The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010). [Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra lines if you would like to respond.] Houston fought for black civil rights through the legal system. He was a prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial restraint, whereas legal realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in those that worked with Houston, but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil injustices wherever possible. DuBois approached school integration and civil rights issues through militant socialism. He believed that blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure in order to gain a better social structure. This didn t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that Houston had a better approach to the issue of school integration because his approach was accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by saying that blacks needed to create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in society. 4) The Supreme Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v. Examples Of Context And Textual Evidence Evidence (Context and Textual Evidence) Inference Commentary Dialectical journal entry #1: Context: Henry was reminiscing on his decision to join the army. Evidence: He had burned several times to enlist. Tales of great movements shook the land. They might not be distinctly Homeric, but there seemed to be much glory in them. He had read of marches, sieges, conflicts, and he had longed to see it all. His busy mind had drawn for him large pictures extravagant in color, lurid with breathless deeds (Crane 3). Trait(s) Demonstrated: Courage, Naivety Commentary: Henry wanted to join the army because he had a romanticized idea of war, and he wanted to be a great man. This shows his courage, but also shows how young he is. Dialectical journal entry #2: Context: While the regiment is in the battle, Henry gives into his fears. He thinks ... Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears. In the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of which I can say I fear myself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me to fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern about the truth of history and truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you, and not being allowed to have real emotions except towards the government are all fears brought on in the novel, especially with the implications of the ending. • 33. Theme Of Trifles And A Doll House The plot of both Susan Glaspell s Trifles and Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House provides scope for a few scenes that lack the presence of all or any men. These scenes, consisting of communication between the female characters, assist in developing the theme of women openly defying the fact that the society they live in is primarily run by men. All the power and authority in their society, no matter the situation, belongs to the men while the women are simply excluded. The women in these plays defy the norms set by society and manage to evade the expectations of their patriarchal societies. In Trifles , a division between the two sexes is quickly established as the men enter the house and huddle by the stove while the women remain still by the door. As the men start their detective work the women wander around the house to gather some of Mrs. Wright s belongings. While searching for her belongings, the women discover an empty birdcage and find a dead bird in a pretty box (Glaspell, 956) inside of Mrs. Wright s sewing basket. Mrs. Hale jumps at the sight of the bird s neck and Mrs. Peters points out how somebody wrung its neck (Glaspell, 957) similar to the way Mr. Wright was found earlier. Mrs. Wright s murder of her husband can be seen as an act of feminine revolt against the male dominated society. Another example of women defying against patriarchy is of Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters hiding the evidence that can prove Mrs. Wright to be guilty of her husband s murder. Before their departure from the Wright s house, as the men are returning, the sheriff suggests that the county attorney take a look through the items Mrs. Peters had collected for Mrs. Wright. However, he decides that anything collected by the women cannot have much significance and overlooks it. His assumption that the women would have came forward if they saw any possible evidence costs him. The sheriff s belief is that women derive their identity solely from their relationships with men; the dominant gender. The sheriff and the county attorney also joke about how Mrs. Peters is basically married to the law (Glaspell, 959) suggesting that she would not hide anything because she is a devoted follower of the law. Ironically, she had concealed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Self-Rule In Colonial England The decision to rebel against England was made in small steps for over a hundred years; self rule was not a quick change. Many taxation acts from the Brits caused the Colonists to rise up and become Americans. ( American government , 2015). Each of the thirteen colonies had a Charter. Charters were an organized group for direct rule by the King of England. Also with colonial governments there were colonial legislatures. Colonial legislatures were a body to lead one of the thirteen colonies. Colonial governments had Governors as well. Governors were appointed by the King of England, and had complete control. They had to pay high taxes to England, and they had no say in parliament of any laws or taxes they paid. Taxes to trade and export goods were all regulated by England. The Colonists felt they should have a vote in England, but they received no representation, or a say so in any law making, or governing matters. This is why they wanted to govern themselves. Then they could impose taxes on their goods and build their government on the profit ( Intermediate establishing , 2015). • 35. How Does The Energy Output Of Ethanol And Determine The... Background Information Calorimeters are devices used to indirectly calculate the energy output of burning fuels by measuring the changes of heat in a system which can then be converted to energy by known mathematical relationships. This investigation seeks to calculate the energy output of Ethanol and determine the optimal calorimeter apparatus for its combustion considering different types of insulation and the best substance in the Calorimeter to absorb the heat of the reaction. Alcohols are an organic compound whose molecule contains one or more of the hydroxyl functional group ( OH) that is bonded to a carbon atom of an alkyl (Nave, 2014). When alcohol is burnt, a combustion reaction occurs with the oxygen in the air, releasing energy in the form of heat. The specific ethanol reaction is as follows: (ΔH = 1300 kJ/mol) According to The First Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in a system is constant; it can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed (Purdue, 2004). Energy in chemical reactions is released as heat, which gets transferred from a substance of higher energy, to that of a lower energy, most commonly by conduction. Conduction occurs best with metals because their molecules are close and they can absorb and release energy quickly, whilst mediums like air are considered insulators because their particles are distanced (Nave, 2014). The specific heat capacity of the substance provides a means of relating the energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Membranes can be impermeable to larger molecules such as ions and proteins to pass through where permeable membranes will allow hydrophobic molecules such as lipids and small molecules like oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide to pass through. The percentage indicates the number of grams of solute per 100ml of solution. Secondly, to assemble the funnel apparatus, you will have to obtain a section of membrane and keep it wet. And then you will need to place the membrane of the mouth of the funnel and secure it with an elastic band, then fold the membrane over the first elastic band and secure it with second elastic band. Make sure the membrane is tight over the mouth of the funnel and it should not leak. The membrane should not be allowed to get dry during this experiment. Then you need to add one drop of food colouring to your sugar solution and by doing this it will make it easier to identify the solution in the tube of the thistle funnel. Then you have to suspend the funnel in the beaker with the mouth of the funnel about 2cm off the bottom of the beaker. Once done this, you will pour distilled water into the beaker until the water level is 1cm above the lower rim of the funnel. When you are making the control, you use a dropper to fill the funnel with coloured distilled water to the first mark which is the lowest point. When you are making the experiments, you use a dropper to fill the funnel to just below the first mark with the sugar solution and remember the volume used. You need to watch the movement of the solution and when it reaches the first mark, make a note of the time because this will be the starting point. The funnel will be marked at 1mm intervals so allow the solution to rise to exactly 10 mm and make a note of this time. This week was a watershed for Total Noise. When terrible things happen, people naturally reach out for information, which used to mean turning on the television.
