FORMED!
WHY WEATHER CHANGES DESPITE OF SAME SUN AND EARTH?

2. WHAT IS WEATHER?
■ The state of atmosphere at a particular place
and time as regards heat, cloudiness, dryness,
sunshine, wind, rain etc.

3. ■ It refers to day to day temperature and precipitation
activity.

4. WHAT CAUSES WEATHER?
Weather is the result of atmosphere
responding to uneven heating of Earth’s
surface by the sun.

5. But!!!!
Does it mean that in winter Earth
moves away and in summer moves
towards the Sun??

6. Lets find answer to this!

7. We know that Earth is round not flat!

8. Sun rays does not fall evenly on land
and oceans.

9. Sun shines more brightly near equator
hence warmer region.

10. Polar regions receive less sun rays during
winter hence colder areas.

11. These differences in temperature create a restless
movement of air and water in great swirling currents
to distribute heat energy from the Sun across the
planet.

12. When air in one region is warmer than the
surrounding air, it becomes less dense and begins to
rise, drawing more cold air in underneath.

13. This causes different weather
for different regions.

15. There are two sides of mountain:
 Leeward side
 Windward side

16. Leeward side
Gets no rain.

17. Windward side
Gets rain.

18. Cloud goes up the mountain
(towards windward side) it
keeps raining
until there is no more water in
the cloud.
Now the cloud starts to go
down the Leeward side
of the mountain, there is
no more
precipitation.
