The Analysis And Methodologies Of The Existing Problem Essay
Overview
In this chapter, we have discussed about the analysis and methodologies of the existing problem.
4.1 Method Used
After a study of literature review the concluded that the Association rule with Apriori Algorithm is
used in combination of Fuzzy c means clustering and it gives result better Accuracy in web page
prediction. Also we use Association rule with Apriori algorithm and Markov model in web page
prediction then it may also result a highest probability in web page and helped to predict the user
access behavior and also decrease the access time of user. So our new proposed methodology has
following methods: Fig 4.1.1 Proposed Methodologies
1. Web Log Data
The logs files are maintained by the web server by the activity of the client who accesses the web
server for a web site through the browser. The information can be written by the site owner, gleaned
from the other web sites or other sources or contributed by users. The sample web log dataset are: Fig
4.1.1.1 Sample Log Data
2. Cleaning Log Data
In the log data, the entries in the log file for the unwanted view of image, graphics and multimedia by
the users are removed. With the important entries, a web log file may consist of certain undesirable
rather useless data which has nothing to do with the mining procedure. Therefore, it is imperative to
remove those irrelevant entries from the log file. There are three kinds of irrelevant or redundant data
needed to clean: accessorial resources embedded in HTML

Importance Of The Lower Class In A Connecticut Yankee In...
In A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, written by Mark Twain, there exists a clear
incongruence between nobility and the lower class. While knights and landlords live lavishly without
a concern for acquiring basic necessities, peasants often struggle to feed themselves and their families.
With so few individuals holding such a large portion of the wealth, a vast gap between the rich and the
poor plagues society. For the most part, King Arthur remains completely oblivious to these issues that
the lower class faces every day. He ineffectively governs, failing to consider the needs of all people.
King Arthur s interactions with the lower class and his inability to understand peasants lifestyles
demonstrate the flaws of the monarchy system. Hank, on one hand, wants to infiltrate the lower class
so that he can observe first hand the effects of his innovations on the lifestyle of the common man. In
contrast, the king goes along simply for the purpose of enjoyment. Hank narrates, When I told the
king I was going out disguised as a petty freeman to scour the country and familiarize myself with the
humbler life of the people, he was all afire with the novelty of the thing in a minute, and was bound to
take a chance in the adventure himself (Twain 150). King Arthur does not seem to understand the
difficult lifestyle of the lower class. Any individual who accurately perceives the hardships and
burdens of the life of a peasant would not jump at the opportunity to

The Real World-Personal Narrative
The Real World
Gunnar Thompson, 650 word, Growing Up One of the biggest turning points in my life was when I
got my first job. I wasn t even old enough to drive yet when I was first hired at the Middletown
Sportsmen s Club. I remember the anxiety and excitement that came along with it. I was so scared that
I would mess something up when I first started and I remember my dad saying to me don t worry
about because everyone makes mistakes especially when they are doing something that is new to
them. This was one of my first responsibility that takes place in the adult world. I developed many
new skills that I would ve never known it wasn t for this job. I learned to handle myself in a polite
manner in front of adults and I also learned about work equipment such as how to run a tractor and a
bobcat. Getting this job was very life changing for me. I found that after working for several months I
was starting to get more mature and responsible. One of the most important thing I learned at this job
was social skills. I ve always thought that school wasn t enough to teach me social skills because I was
always around people of my own age. Here I was always around adults and in turn this taught me how
to handle myself in front of adults and strangers. For my whole life I was shy and wasn t able to carry

responsibilities. I was also introduced into my favorite hobby. A hobby that will help me pay for

bugle sounded boots and saddles meaning to get a horse and prepare for battle. (Longacre, 211) Two
hours later, General Meade ordered the First 11th Corps to Gettysburg with Major Reynolds to lead
them on their way. Major Reynolds summoned Major General Abner Doubleday, who was acting
commander of the First Corps at this time, to headquarters. Between the hours of seven and eight AM,
they went over to inspect dispatches from General Meade and Buford. Major Reynolds also sent
Captain Joseph Rosengarten, to tell the townspeople that there was to be a battle here soon, but instead
of listening, they threw mud in his face. He briefly told Major Reynolds what had happened and he
replied jokingly, You must be mistaken; they have been throwing mud in your eyes. (Pfanz,73) Major
Reynolds reached the point three miles south of Gettysburg. One of the staff officers told him that the
Confederates advanced Chambersburg Pike. Major Reynolds hurried toward a town that was a half a

Holding On, A Story Excerpt
One week had gone by, and that was all it took for Serena to lose her bright eyes, her charming
personality, and her strong demeanour. In place stood a woman with dark, tired eyes, unclean and
unmotivated, she had hardly left her bed, the world felt scary. She always knew, Ric s death would be
hard on her, but she did not think it would be this hard and she was avoiding people at all costs.
She had briefly spoken to Jess, who called to see how she was; it was an emotional call, in which Jess,
offered to take control of the funeral plans. Serena, sounded so broken, and so adamant that she could
not arrange it herself, she did not know where to begin, and although, Jess had lost her father, and the
emotional baring was tough on her. Jess, felt that the pressure of a arranging a funeral could see
Serena fall into darker depths.
Other than Jess, Serena had not spoken to anyone; she had not even told her own daughter of Ric s
death, she did not want to disrupt her university work. Serena did not want Eleanor, to feel responsible
for her; it was not her job to look after her.
With a sore head, and a strong crave for something sugary, Serena left her bed, and headed downstairs,
and through to the kitchen. She had hardly eaten over the past week, and when she did eat, it was
takeaway food; she just really did not care about herself. She felt that life was unfair, cruel, Ric did not
deserve to die, and he did not deserve to suffer.
Opening up the fridge, Serena pulled

The Legalization Of Prostitution And Prostitution
Regardless if the decriminalization of prostitution helps, there will still be a heavy demand for it. One
of the biggest industries in the world has it entrapped, which is the sex based human trafficking.
According to the International Labor Organization, human trafficking generates around $150 Billion
per year. And Two thirds of this money ($99billion) comes from commercial sex exploitation. But at
the same time there is in fact evidence out there, that displays legalizing prostitution reduces sex
trafficking. In 2001, Germany legalized paid sex. Thus over the course of 10 years, instances of sex
based human trafficking decreased by 10 percent within the country. In order to combat the sex
trafficking business, we need to open up more waves of supporting communication, to expose
different traffickers, and we cannot do that while prostitution remains illegal. Proponents claimed that
the promotion legalized sex, increases the chances of an open sex market. Since other countries have a
legalized prostitution they, have seen a mild increase in human trafficking. They argue legalizing
prostitution may be legalizing the prostitution industry as a whole. In addition, some say when
decriminalize sex workers, you also decriminalize the pimps, and the brothels. Although they do show
increases, the planned legislative process I am promoting, would prohibited the pimps (or johns) to
earn a stationary living on the earnings of any sex worker. Brothel owners and operators will be

The War On Terrorism During The United States
The war on terrorism in the United States began after the September 11 attacks on the United States.
Following the war was a series of military campaigns carried out to destroy terrorist organizations in
the Middle East. Led by the George W. Bush administration, America made goals for the war on terror
to defeat main targets and terrorist leaders such as Osama bin Laden. The invasion of the Middle East
was supported by the American people at first. After three more years Saddam Hussein s weapons of
mass destruction no longer existed. Multiple terrorist forces fighting Al Qaeda were taken down.
However, America has maintained its military presence in the region until present day. According to
Will Fight for Oil by Ted Koppel, if production of oil from the Persian Gulf stopped the American
economy would be devastated. The american economy runs on oil; a large percentage of the oil we use
comes from the Middle East. The United States invaded Iraq in 2003 has not left yet because of the
possible dangers of a Middle East without American military presence. Without American supervision
the regional instability of the Middle East could be very bad for oil production. To protect the
American interests in the region military forces have not been removed. The people at home are all
aware that we have American soldiers in the region. American civilians are used to living in a country
at war. The constant period of America at war starting in 2003, has made America always prepared for

Euthyphro Dilemma Analysis
The Euthyphro Dilemma is a very interesting dilemma, the basis of it is that it deals with the concept
of pious(doing something in the name of gods/God), is something considered being pious if it s loved
by the gods/God or is it loved by the gods/God because it s pious? This is a dilemma because can it
brings up who decides what is righteous and what is not righteous. Do the gods define what is
righteous, if so what god, it can t be all since the clearly disagree with each other. And do you believe
there is really a war amongst the gods, with terrible feuds, even, and battles and many other such
things, such as are recounted by the poets and the holy artists, and that have been elaborately

Rhetorical Analysis Of A Purpose Driven Life
Each of us is dealt a hand when we come into this world, it is how we use what we ve been given that
matters. Rick Warren, author of A Purpose Driven Life gave a speech in February of 2006 about living
a life of purpose. The speech was directed at people with an amount of influence in the world, big or
small. The Purpose of this speech was to urge people to go out and use their talents, and influence to
make the world a better place. Rick Warren has an excellent use of ethos, pathos, and logos in his
speech. He uses his knowledge of people, and real life experiences to capture the audience s attention.
Rick Starts his speech off by talking about a book. He doesn t come out and say what the book is, or
what it is about. This captures the audience s attention from the beginning because they want to know
more about the book. They also want to know more about the author and why he is speaking to them.
He then goes into why he believes so many people are reading this book and as to why it is selling so
many copies. In doing all of this, he gives reasons why he is qualified to be speaking on this particular
topic, which is that he wrote a best selling book about living a life of purpose. This is an example of
ethos because he is telling people to give their life s away to better the world instead of bettering
themselves.
The biggest appeal Rick Warren uses is logos. One of the important things he said that goes against
what people believe was about money and happiness. Rick said If money actually made you happy,
then the wealthiest people in the world would be the happiest. And that I know, personally, I know, is
not true (5). People in the world think that the more money you have, the happier you will be, and
Rick says it is not true. He also talks about all of the money that came pouring in after he wrote the
best selling book. In his speech he says that the good life is about giving your life away. With all of the
money that he got, he started giving it away, he did not want to use it on himself. In stating all of what
he did with the money, he proves he is not a hypocrite. It might sound like he is bragging, but this is a
good point to make for the audience to listen to him. He wasn t saying one thing and

Holden Caulfield Rejection
As most teenagers and young adults would agree, growing up is a difficult task to which no alternative
is present. Every person must grow up and lose much of the innocence they had as youth, no matter
how badly one may want to hold on to it. Holden Caulfield, an expert catcher in the rye , seems to
think he can thwart time and the natural progression to adulthood by keeping as boyish and innocent
as he possibly can. He tries to find acceptance among his peers and his teachers, only to be met with
rejection after rejection of his refusal to adulthood. He is, every so often, met with acceptance of his
insistence on staying in high school. In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield is met
with rejections from his peers, such as Robert Ackley, and his teachers, such as Mr. Spencer; despite

The American South, Mexico, And The Transnational Politics...
Olsson, Tore C. Sharecroppers and Campesinos: The American South, Mexico, and the Transnational
Politics of Land Reform in the Radical 1930s. The Journal of Southern History Volume LXXXI, No.
3, August 2015.
As the West was being tamed and land grabs and the expansion of the United States was winding
down, many people around the 1930s owned land. But as the country was expanding the Great
depression of 1929 caused chaos on the American landscape and the country was in dire need of
direction. Franklin D. Roosevelt established a series of new reforms known as The New Deal to
stabilize the economy and provide jobs for the American people. One of the reforms in the New Deal
was land reform. Part of the goal in the land reform was to target the plantation zones of the American
South, whose inequality of wealth was deemed the Nation s number one economic problem . (Pg. 608)
Our neighbor to the South was going through land reform as well and it would be Mexico under
President Lazaro Cardenas land redistribution that would provide a blueprint on how the land reforms
in the United States would be modeled. I believe that, it is this assistance from Mexico in the
development of the Southern United States land reform that is not sufficiently covered in our History
books. I believe that if we would take into consideration the results of how the agrarian land reform in
Mexico would unfold, we could understand how the land reform in the Southern U.S came to be and

Before this course, I believed I had a strong understanding of feminist issues based on my self
identification as a feminist and recognition of the difference between the terms feminism and
womanism . However, after participating in this course and learning from others in the classroom, I
now recognize how feminist issues affecting women of color seep into every aspect of daily life. This
course has helped me to filter out the dominant narratives in feminist history and theory, and to
recognize the voices of WOC shaping the movement from the background, as well as to question why
their voices have been purposefully excluded from the movement. This course has helped my

Women of color are not afforded the labels of empowering when reclaiming their sexuality, nor are
they supported by the White feminist community. This course also explored the global contexts of
gender, race, and feminism, as well as the pervasive effects of European colonialism on WOC
throughout the world. Skin bleaching, the act of chemically whitening one s skin, is unfortunately
prevalent in the United States among dark skinned WOC, in hopes of attaining White standards of
beauty, and the accompanying social benefits, is also common in many countries in Africa, such as
Ghana and Nigeria. a practice common in developing countries as disparate as Senegal, India and the
Philippines, where it is promoted as a way to elevate one s social standing (Louis, NYTimes). The
social benefits to skin bleaching are very real and evident in the United States and globally, among
African Americans and also Latinos, there s a clear connection between skin color and socioeconomic
status. It s not some fantasy. There is prejudice against dark skinned people, especially women in the

How Did The Eureka Stockade Transform Australia
The Eureka Stockade/ Gold Rushes
The Eureka stockade has changed a lot of our history, life would not be the same. We have learned
everything about the stockade and the gold is still being mined to this day. The Eureka Stockade
rebellion was the first of its kinds against British authority in Australia. It was a brief bloody battle
which led to historic reforms for prospectors and government. Today, people ask what, where and
when was the Eureka stockade built, what were the main grievances of the miners, who were the main
leaders of this rebellion, account for the actual battle, what was the eventual results of this important
moment in Australia s history and finally how did the Eureka Stockade transform Australia?

The Eureka Stockade had little to do with the democracy that made the miners unware of the impact
that they would have on Australia s history. The Eureka rebellion was a rebellion in 1854, it had gold
miners in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia who revolved against the colony of the United Kingdom. The
diggers formed a Ballarat reform league, they then burnt their licences and the government sent their
troops to Ballarat. It was December 3rd Eureka lead and named for the stockade structure built by
miners during the conflict. The rebellion resulted in 27 deaths of at the least 27 people, which was
most of the rebellion.
The Eureka Stockade has eventually changed Australia s nation by its important moments in Australia
s history. Before dawn December 3rd 1854, the government troops stormed the diggers from the
Eureka Stockade. The fiery battle only lasted 20 minutes, with more than 30 men killed. The diggers
finally a quitted, charged with high treason. With a years time the diggers won with the vote and hated

Your Right to a Fair Birth

serious risks and implications involved. Many who choose an elective childbirth, do have a legitimate
reason as to why they made that decision. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported

Often feeling the pressure of family and the uncertainty of the baby s arrival can be a motivating
factor toward choosing a planned birth. The mode of delivery in many ways can be up to the
discretion of a physician, more so because the medical community s fear of litigation even so
Obstetric nurses are 10 times more likely to be in the courts as oppose to non obstetric nurses(Sibbald,

to a positive outcome. Although, scheduling birth based on timing and convenience can be a
motivating factor for CDMR. It s been shown that respiratory morbidity in Elective Cesarean section

Corporate social responsibility is no longer a new term for now business. More and more businesses
and individuals began to focus on corporate social responsibility, such as specifying corporate social
responsibility strategy, the implementation of corporate social responsibility programs, corporate
social responsibility published annual report and listing. At the same time, more and more disciplines

2.1. Definition of CSR
CSR (Corporate social responsibility, also called corporate conscience, corporate citizenship or
sustainable responsible business/ Responsible Business) (D Wood, 1991) is a form of corporate self
regulation integrated into a business model. In some models, a firm s implementation of CSR goes
beyond compliance and engages in actions that appear to further some social good, beyond the
interests of the firm and that which is required by law. (McWilliams Siegel, 2001) CSR refers to the
enterprise to create profits, bear legal responsibility to shareholders, while also commitment to
employees, customers, community and environment responsibility, corporate social responsibility
must go beyond the requirements of corporate profit as the only goal of the traditional concept,

Organisms Of Two Unknown Bacterial Cultures Essay
Introduction The objective of this experiment is to identify the organisms of two unknown bacterial
cultures. Students must identify the species of the unknown bacteria by utilizing the techniques and
information learned in previous laboratory exercises. These techniques include streaking for isolation,
Gram staining, and specific biochemical tests. Students are given a map known as a dichotomous key,
a guide in determining the identity of their unknown sample.
Identifying microbes using a series of biochemical tests, like those performed by students, is used in a
clinical settings for several important reasons other than taxonomy. It is used to determine
susceptibility to antimicrobial drugs, gain information for future treatments, identify pathogens in
terms of their potential danger, aid epidemiologists in tracing sources of infections, and to accumulate
data of interest to those studying infectious diseases (Tortora, G. J., Funke, B. R., Case, C. L., 2016).
Results
The first steps to identifying the two unknown microorganisms in tube 33 34 is to perform a Gram
Stain, prepare a MacConkey Agar plate, and subculture each unknown on to a Blood Heart Infusion

2.3.1 Differences between The Blitz and IRA attacks
Both of these events seem very different an the first look as they took place in very different situations
in the history of London, even though the real time gap between them isn t that huge compared to the
overall past of the British capital.
They were very distinct in many aspects for example the reason the final intention and the way they
happened. That s not surprising as one of them was a real war, country against country, while the other
one was a terroristic organization against the government.
However both events, The Blitz and the IRA attacks had one important thing in common: Both wanted
to frighten the citizens of London.
To reach their goal and show what their capable of the Germans during the Blitz as well as the Irish
Republican Army killed innocent civilians. The idea behind that was to break the moral of the normal
population, which would force the Government to change plans to protect their ... Show more content

The Grand Regency Hotel Management Essay
The Grand Regency Hotel
Introduction
The Grand Regency Hotel is found in Bangkok Thailand and has been in operation for the last fifteen
years. For the entire period it has been under the management of the Thai general manager and was
started by locally based consortium of investors. It is a prestigious hotel in Bangkok and has a total of
700 employees who were being treated in a prestigious way by the management. The management
gave the employees the following benefits: provision of very good welfare; the salary rate was above
that of the market; high job security and also end of the year bonus which was comparable to salary
earned in a four week period (Manson 2009, p. 28).

With such kind of operation the employees will go an extra mile and serve customers to their best
since their motivation will be increased. This will then translate to better performance at the work
place since they will be more satisfied with their job. With this in mind upon being appointed as the
manager he quickly adapted the aspect of empowerment into his operations.
This marked a change in the operations of the hotel since the employees who had been retained were
used to a system where they worked under the instructions of the management. Previously they had a
duty of ensuring that the manager s instructions are adequately adhered to hence they took it as a
responsibility.
By implementing the empowerment strategy, most of the decisions were made by the employees
without consulting their superiors. Any decision making organ must have the necessary skills and
knowledge pertaining the section they are dealing with (Barker 2008, p. 34). Having been given the
right of making some decisions regarding the running of the hotel and because most of them are
lacking the skills and knowledge that are key issues many employees made the wrong decisions.
The employees were used to a situation whereby they were being guided by the management in all
their activities hence being allowed to make decisions was a new role. Due to this they require training

occasional hostile receiver, but there were volunteers who volunteered every day of the week for full
shifts, which would be around eight hours. They probably had more than the occasional disgruntled
receiver wanting to be removed from the calling list or anti Jane person. I always just assumed that
there were computers or machines doing all the hard labor of the campaigning processes, but there are

Roanoke Colony Research Paper
Introduction It was generally assumed that Roanoke would become the first of many permanent
English settlements in the New World; however, those assumptions would prove false after the
colonists who travelled there disappeared under mysterious circumstances. For over 400 years, the
mystery of the Lost Colony has endured in the Chesapeake region of America and has yet to be
definitively solved. Beginning in the 1580s, a series of ventures and ill fated colonization attempts laid
the context and set the stage for the greatest vanishing act in American history. From supply shortages
and unfavorable weather, to misunderstandings and violent interactions with the indigenous people all
three attempts to settle at Roanoke Island were thwarted in one fashion or another. The third
colonization attempt would not prove to be a charm for England, as these 118 colonists disappeared
with little evidence of what had happened to them.
Background
There were several factors that influenced Queen Elizabeth I of England to grant Sir William Raleigh
a charter to colonize North America on March 25, 1584 (Mallios p.59). Tensions between the English
and Spanish governments were strained at the time that this charter was granted. England and Spain
hoped to achieve several, competing goals by colonizing the New World. ... Show more content on

The Dangerous Effects of Chemical Warfare in World War One
Upon the battlefield of World War One, soldiers huddle in trenches, faces veiled behind gas masks.
These bulky facial coverings were designed to protect the soldiers from deadly gases used by the
enemy. The use of chemical agents in World War One led to the need for the production of better
protection from the deadly effects of the agents. Chlorine gas could be dropped from cylinders above
the victims, its high density causing it to flow downwards onto its unsuspecting foe (Fire 121). Also,
the British Authorities struggled to decide whether or not to approve the use of gas for offensive use,
and whether a large scale chemical war was something to be avoided at all costs (Girard 107). The gas
masks worn by soldiers increased their discomfort and made it hard to move around, instilling a sense
of panic in them when a gas raid was underway (Fire 121). The French were the first to fire
asphyxiating gas shells from field guns and pioneered the use of gas as a neutralization weapon
(Krause 553). The psychological damage of gas attacks on soldiers was mainly because of the horror
of seeing their unprepared comrades suffocating and screaming in agony from burns inflicted by
mustard gas (Fitzgerald 611). Animals were used in the World War, horses for transport, pigeons for
contact, and dogs for protection and defense (Walk). Obviously, there would have to be modified gas
masks for the animals on the battle field (Walk.) The panic of the early days of gas research led to

movement and purposeful living. He shows how we can compare our lifestyle to those living in the

addition, it is important to look at our current lifestyle and habits, if we are living in a way that is
going to help us reach our potential maximum life span. With the right lifestyle, there are chances that

The Modernization of America Essay
The Modernization of America
The Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869. The telephone was invented in 1876. The first
practical system for a radio was developed in 1895. The Wright brothers created a flying machine in
1903. The first gas powered automobile, the assembly line and the refrigerator were produced in the
early 20th century. These are all very important steps in laying the foundation for the modernization of
America, but I would argue that the first truly modern period in American history would have to be the
1920s.
The 1920s brought a capitalistic population who, as a nation, leaned toward isolationism. In two main
fields, the 1920s modernized American society to reflect the America of the 21st century ... Show

The decade brought a new openness about sex, and the media did not miss the chance to take part in
this revolution. The movies were very popular and the film stars who were known for being cute and
innocent, such as America s Sweetheart, Mary Pickford were replaced by stars who were sexy, like
vamp, Theda Bara.
Advertising and the availability of financing brought about a consumer revolution. The new consumer
products appealed to people s social ambitions. Very few of the products were necessities, but
eventually, participating in the consumerism culture became a standard for judging one s value; rather
than religion, character or social standing as it had been before the 1920s.
Business is the other main area that accented the transition to modernization. Big business was seen
throughout the later half of the 19th century, but there was a major shift that changed American
business and employment forever. The 1920s saw more mergers than anytime in American history
besides the 1980s and 90s. Income per capita increased by one third which increased the standard of
living for many people, allowing more than two thirds of Americans to have electricity in their homes
by 1929 and other modern household items such as washing machines, irons, vacuum cleaners,
toasters and sewing machines.
Efficiency became a main issue in factories. Henry Ford could produce an automobile in 93 minutes
as opposed to the fourteen hours it took him before. This also

Why I Want to Study Medicine
The sun exploded into a million shades of orange. I sat, friends at each side, atop a monstrous pile of
boulders. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself. Love
filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this love; it
has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started backpacking
at 13, trekking across the winter harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but despite this, a
feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb fingers and soothed
the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork required. Each new trip
allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led to caring, caring led to
empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is how the backcountry
shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these lessons. When I was in
high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs.
Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing anesthesiologists in San Francisco. I was
a green advocate and spent much of my time reading about and debating the travesties visited upon the
environment.
In my young explorations I found that medicine and environmental politics peaked my interest. In my

Shadowhunters Research Paper
Preface
Everyone knows the world has an evil side but only a few know just how evil. Demons exist, though a
pure demon is now a rare thing, most of the bloodlines have been tainted and are now full of half

Shadowhunters can see them in their true form.
Shadowhunters, now that is a special breed! They are an advanced race of humans called Nephilim,
born with angel blood. They have the ability to use magic runes, burned into their bodies by an angel
weapon called a stele, to help protect them and give them strength. They were tasked with defending
the mundanes, or humans, of the world and keeping the downworlders in check. Their job was

The Ethics Of The Corporate Veil
Introduction
The corporate veil is a term that refers to the concept of treating a corporation as a separate legal entity
from its shareholders and thus bestowing upon it separate rights, obligations and liabilities. In the
landmark case of Salomon v Salomon, the court stated that the liability of company shareholders is
limited only to the extent of their capital contributions. The court also explained that since companies
are separate legal entities from shareholders, they are separately liable for debt and obligatory
responsibilities.
However, there have been special circumstances where English courts have found it necessary to lift
the corporate veil for the sake of delivering justice. Although such instances are rare, the possibility of
lifting the corporate veil has generated controversy. Such controversy primarily revolves around the
uncertainty of circumstances in which lifting the corporate veil is necessary. This paper provides a
critical analysis of instances in which lifting the corporate veil is necessary. The analysis applies
examples and evidence from English case law, statutes and other applicable legal principles.
Lifting the corporate veil
Fraud (avoiding existing obligations)
The most prominent instance in which English courts allow lifting of the corporate veil is when
individuals establish companies to commit fraud. Fraud, in this case, means avoidance of existing
obligations resultant of contracts or legal provisions. The Salomon case is

Critical Analysis Of Madame Bovary

A Fantasy World
In Madame Bovary, Gustave Flaubert shapes Emma, the protagonist, into a woman who deceives
herself, through romantic novels, into believing her life is better than it actually is. Emma like most
things in her life romanticized what marriage would do for her. At the start of her marriage to Charles,
she believed marriage would be the means at which she transitioned from a farm girl to a wealthy
woman. She believed that marriage would bring her all she had longed for. However, her marriage to
Charles is opposite to that. Thus, she is constantly searching for something or someone to satisfy her.

Flaubert use of they and them, further separates Emma from the festivities of the upper class.
Additionally, as Emma is preparing for the ball, she is striving to appear as extravagant as possible.
She did her hair according to the directions of the hairdresser, and put on the barege dress (Flaubert,
42 44) Thus, Flaubert emphasizes that Emma s is unable to prepare for the ball without directions
implying that she is not able to be a part of the upper class events without guidance. Therefore, her
only connection to the upper class at the ball are her clothes. Also, Flaubert further separates Emma
and Charles from the rest of the guest, by having them arrive in a dog cart (Flaubert, 41). Hence,
Flaubert advocates that no matter how much the middle class aspires to be a part of the upper class
through material items they will never have the means to do so. Flaubert further emphasizes the
separation between Emma and the rest of the guests when he writes: Emma was listening to a
conversation full of words she did not understand (Flaubert, 45). Flaubert is highlighting how out of
place Emma is, yet how aloof Emma remains. She is still listening even though she doesn t understand
what they are saying. Overall, Flaubert utilizes perspective in order to highlight Emma s aspirations to
be a part of the upper class, through her appearance and material items. Ultimately, Flaubert is
critiquing the French middle class in that

The Music Industry Is An Oligopoly
The music industry is an oligopoly. Since the late 1800 s people like Thomas Edison have been buying
up patents in communication technology, forming monopolies, leading to a non competitive
entertainment industry. With only a handful of corporations controlling all aspects of acquisition,
distribution and marketing of music, harsh business principles create an exploitative industry that
takes the best of what artists have to offer and leaves many of them unable to support themselves.
Beginning in the 1950 s with payola and white cover music and ultimately evolving into iTunes and
Spotify, the music industry has grown into a billion dollar industry with far reaching influence and
control. Contracts rarely serve the artists best interest and many are left out to dry when their
usefulness has expired.
In the 1950 s, radio was struggling to keep ratings against the emerging new television craze. Music
executives began to pay disk jockeys to play their music. It is called payola and it is still in practice
today, although it is technically illegal. The record companies write off the legal fines imposed by the
Federal Communications Act as an expense of promotion (Campbell p.88). Black artists in the 50 s
were writing some of the most inventive and marketable music of the time, but their music was still
not palatable to a white audience as long as it was played by black musicians. Record companies
began buying the songs of poor black musicians and giving them to their exclusively

Comparison of Whitman and Dickenson Poems
America experienced profound changes during the mid 1800 s. New technologies and ideas helped the
nation grow, while the Civil War ripped the nation apart. During this tumultuous period, two great
American writers captured their ideas in poetry. Their poems give us insight into the time period, as
well as universal insight about life. Although polar opposites in personality, Emily Dickinson and Walt
Whitman created similar poetry. Dickinson s Hope is a Thing with Feathers and Whitman s O
Captain! My Captain! share many qualities.
br
br Hope is a Thing with Feathers and O Captain! My Captain! contain a similar scansion. Both have a
predominantly iambic meter. The unaccented beat followed by the accented beat creates a rising ...

Unlike in Dickinson s poem, the rhyming scheme carries throughout the whole poem, although the
AABBCDED rhyme pattern contains a few cases of near rhyme.
br
br Dickinson and Whitman also use similar poetic devices in Hope is a Thing with Feathers and O
Captain! My Captain! Each poem contains an extended metaphor. In Dickinson s poem, a bird clearly
symbolizes hope. The first stanza introduces the bird metaphor: ‘Hope is the thing with feathers /That
perches in the soul. The next lines ‘And sings the tune without the words /And never stops—at all—
illustrate the interminable nature of the bird and hope. The second stanza expands the metaphor by
saying ‘And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—. The bird s song, or hope, is the sweetest during a
Gale, or troubled times. The first lines in the final stanza ‘I ve heard it in the chillest land / And on
the strangest Sea describe the bird, or hope, as being everywhere. The last lines ‘Yet, never, in
Extremity,/It asked a crumb—of Me show the unselfish nature of the bird; hope never asks for
anything in return. O Captain! My Captain! contains a more complicated and cryptic extended
metaphor. Basically, Abraham Lincoln captains the metaphorical ship of the United States through the
Civil War. The second line ‘The ship has weather d every rack, the prize we sought is won means the
United States survived the tribulation of the Civil War, and the citizens won the prize they sought,
unity. Abraham Lincoln

The Treatment of Women in Trifles
The Treatment of Women in Trifles Trifles, a one act play written by Susan Glaspell, is a cleverly
written story about a murder and more importantly, it effectively describes the treatment of women
during the early 1900s. In the opening scene, we learn a great deal of information about the people of
the play and of their opinions. We know that there are five main characters, three men and two
women. The weather outside is frighteningly cold, and yet the men enter the warm farmhouse first.
The women stand together away from the men, which immediately puts the men against the women.
Mrs. Hale s and Mrs. Peters s treatment from the men in the play is reflective of the beliefs of that
time. These women, aware of the powerless slot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with this knowledge, the women choose not to limit themselves to the roles that men have
placed them. Instead they choose to observe, examine, and evaluate what actually happened in the

Essay on The Battle of Takur Ghar
Introduction The Battle of Takur Ghar, or Roberts Ridge, as it s more affectionately called by
members of the US military, occurred on March 3 4th 2002. Takur Ghar translates from Pashto as Tall
Mountain . The battle became the most memorable part of a much larger operation called Anaconda.
The battle started when Navy SEAL, Petty Officer First Class Neil Roberts fell from a MH 47E
Chinook, on an attempted landing to an unknowingly hot LZ, when he lost his footing due to a
combination of RPG blast and spilled hydraulic fluid of the mangled aircraft. Razor 03, the call sign of
the Chinook was eventually forced to land putting a gap of 4 miles and several thousand feet between
Roberts and the rest of his team. With knowing little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Enemy and organizations involved Many elite forces from around the world came together for
operation Anaconda. The focal point of the operation was the Lower Shahikot Valley, which housed
and protected a large number of foreign fighters Afghan Arabs from al Qaeda, Uzbeks, Tajiks, and
Chechens from the Islamic Movements of Uzbekistan (IMU) 5. Takur Ghar was the highest point
overlooking the Shahikot Valley and was a key terrain to capture for the mission. A noted Afghanistan
specialist, Lester Grau, believes there were initially 600 estimated enemy fighters in the valley, which
tallied with other credible sources6. The valley was protected by multilayered defenses. At the
entrances to the valley, the insurgents maintained checkpoints, which allowed an early warning system
of attempted ground attack7. The valley was classic guerilla terrain easily defendable, controlled
access, numerous routes of escape, and near a sympathetic border 8. SOF were organized into five
individual task forces with specific roles and responsibilities: Joint Special Operations Task Force

Archaic Apollo Poem
Poem Commentary; Archaic Torso of Apollo
Archaic Torso of Apollo is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke was a Bohemian Austrian poet and
the poem has been translated from German to English. The poem s literal reference is to a statue
named the Miletus Torso. The marble statue represents a male s torso with no head, arms, or legs and
is suspected to be a depiction of a Greek god. It currently resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Archaic Torso of Apollo is a sonnet with typical stanza and rhyme scheme but Rilke uses vivid
imagery and literal references to get his message to the reader. The title is straightforward and
automatically directs readers to what the poem is about. The two main patterns of the poem are
references to the missing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when we look at statues (of people) the first thing we notice is the face and that is what
we base beauty on. However, when you remove the face you can look at other parts and see how they
have their own allure. Rilke starts off with we cannot know his legendary head , stating how the head,
the main focal point of a statue, is missing. The poem then goes and yet his torso is still suffused with
brilliance because the torso is all that is left to look at and is still brilliant in itself. The strongest point
is which his gaze, now turned to low, gleams in all its power. Otherwise the curved breast could not
dazzle you so . The torso (and breast) is now the focal point after time has broken the perfect face
which now has no gaze to turn on viewers. But now the breast, the shoulders, and hips can
demonstrate the careful craftsmanship of the marble. These individual elements can now be looked at
in awe because they are the big picture now. Rilke makes a pattern of pointing out missing parts from
the statue and that contributes to the idea that beauty can be found in each element, because the
spotlight is now turned on each part in

  • 6. Importance Of The Lower Class In A Connecticut Yankee In... In A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, written by Mark Twain, there exists a clear incongruence between nobility and the lower class. While knights and landlords live lavishly without a concern for acquiring basic necessities, peasants often struggle to feed themselves and their families. With so few individuals holding such a large portion of the wealth, a vast gap between the rich and the poor plagues society. For the most part, King Arthur remains completely oblivious to these issues that the lower class faces every day. He ineffectively governs, failing to consider the needs of all people. King Arthur s interactions with the lower class and his inability to understand peasants lifestyles demonstrate the flaws of the monarchy system. Hank, on one hand, wants to infiltrate the lower class so that he can observe first hand the effects of his innovations on the lifestyle of the common man. In contrast, the king goes along simply for the purpose of enjoyment. Hank narrates, When I told the king I was going out disguised as a petty freeman to scour the country and familiarize myself with the humbler life of the people, he was all afire with the novelty of the thing in a minute, and was bound to take a chance in the adventure himself (Twain 150). King Arthur does not seem to understand the difficult lifestyle of the lower class. I wasn t even old enough to drive yet when I was first hired at the Middletown Sportsmen s Club. I remember the anxiety and excitement that came along with it. I was so scared that I would mess something up when I first started and I remember my dad saying to me don t worry about because everyone makes mistakes especially when they are doing something that is new to them. This was one of my first responsibility that takes place in the adult world. I developed many new skills that I would ve never known it wasn t for this job. I learned to handle myself in a polite manner in front of adults and I also learned about work equipment such as how to run a tractor and a bobcat. Getting this job was very life changing for me. I found that after working for several months I was starting to get more mature and responsible. One of the most important thing I learned at this job was social skills. I ve always thought that school wasn t enough to teach me social skills because I was always around people of my own age. One of the biggest industries in the world has it entrapped, which is the sex based human trafficking. According to the International Labor Organization, human trafficking generates around $150 Billion per year. And Two thirds of this money ($99billion) comes from commercial sex exploitation. But at the same time there is in fact evidence out there, that displays legalizing prostitution reduces sex trafficking. In 2001, Germany legalized paid sex. Thus over the course of 10 years, instances of sex based human trafficking decreased by 10 percent within the country. In order to combat the sex trafficking business, we need to open up more waves of supporting communication, to expose different traffickers, and we cannot do that while prostitution remains illegal. Proponents claimed that the promotion legalized sex, increases the chances of an open sex market. Since other countries have a legalized prostitution they, have seen a mild increase in human trafficking. They argue legalizing prostitution may be legalizing the prostitution industry as a whole. In addition, some say when decriminalize sex workers, you also decriminalize the pimps, and the brothels. Following the war was a series of military campaigns carried out to destroy terrorist organizations in the Middle East. Led by the George W. Bush administration, America made goals for the war on terror to defeat main targets and terrorist leaders such as Osama bin Laden. The invasion of the Middle East was supported by the American people at first. After three more years Saddam Hussein s weapons of mass destruction no longer existed. Multiple terrorist forces fighting Al Qaeda were taken down. However, America has maintained its military presence in the region until present day. According to Will Fight for Oil by Ted Koppel, if production of oil from the Persian Gulf stopped the American economy would be devastated. The american economy runs on oil; a large percentage of the oil we use comes from the Middle East. The United States invaded Iraq in 2003 has not left yet because of the possible dangers of a Middle East without American military presence. • 14. Rhetorical Analysis Of A Purpose Driven Life Each of us is dealt a hand when we come into this world, it is how we use what we ve been given that matters. Rick Warren, author of A Purpose Driven Life gave a speech in February of 2006 about living a life of purpose. The speech was directed at people with an amount of influence in the world, big or small. The Purpose of this speech was to urge people to go out and use their talents, and influence to make the world a better place. Rick Warren has an excellent use of ethos, pathos, and logos in his speech. He uses his knowledge of people, and real life experiences to capture the audience s attention. Rick Starts his speech off by talking about a book. He doesn t come out and say what the book is, or what it is about. This captures the audience s attention from the beginning because they want to know more about the book. They also want to know more about the author and why he is speaking to them. He then goes into why he believes so many people are reading this book and as to why it is selling so many copies. In doing all of this, he gives reasons why he is qualified to be speaking on this particular topic, which is that he wrote a best selling book about living a life of purpose. This is an example of ethos because he is telling people to give their life s away to better the world instead of bettering themselves. The biggest appeal Rick Warren uses is logos. One of the important things he said that goes against what people believe was about money and happiness. Rick said If money actually made you happy, then the wealthiest people in the world would be the happiest. And that I know, personally, I know, is not true (5). People in the world think that the more money you have, the happier you will be, and Rick says it is not true. He also talks about all of the money that came pouring in after he wrote the best selling book. In his speech he says that the good life is about giving your life away. With all of the money that he got, he started giving it away, he did not want to use it on himself. In stating all of what he did with the money, he proves he is not a hypocrite. It might sound like he is bragging, but this is a good point to make for the audience to listen to him. He wasn t saying one thing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every person must grow up and lose much of the innocence they had as youth, no matter how badly one may want to hold on to it. Sharecroppers and Campesinos: The American South, Mexico, and the Transnational Politics of Land Reform in the Radical 1930s. The Journal of Southern History Volume LXXXI, No. 3, August 2015. As the West was being tamed and land grabs and the expansion of the United States was winding down, many people around the 1930s owned land. But as the country was expanding the Great depression of 1929 caused chaos on the American landscape and the country was in dire need of direction. Franklin D. Roosevelt established a series of new reforms known as The New Deal to stabilize the economy and provide jobs for the American people. One of the reforms in the New Deal was land reform. Part of the goal in the land reform was to target the plantation zones of the American South, whose inequality of wealth was deemed the Nation s number one economic problem . (Pg. 608) Our neighbor to the South was going through land reform as well and it would be Mexico under President Lazaro Cardenas land redistribution that would provide a blueprint on how the land reforms in the United States would be modeled. I believe that, it is this assistance from Mexico in the development of the Southern United States land reform that is not sufficiently covered in our History books. I believe that if we would take into consideration the results of how the agrarian land reform in Mexico would unfold, we could understand how the land reform in the Southern U.S came to be and how the ... Students must identify the species of the unknown bacteria by utilizing the techniques and information learned in previous laboratory exercises. These techniques include streaking for isolation, Gram staining, and specific biochemical tests. Students are given a map known as a dichotomous key, a guide in determining the identity of their unknown sample. Identifying microbes using a series of biochemical tests, like those performed by students, is used in a clinical settings for several important reasons other than taxonomy. It is used to determine susceptibility to antimicrobial drugs, gain information for future treatments, identify pathogens in terms of their potential danger, aid epidemiologists in tracing sources of infections, and to accumulate data of interest to those studying infectious diseases (Tortora, G. Roanoke Colony Research Paper Introduction It was generally assumed that Roanoke would become the first of many permanent English settlements in the New World; however, those assumptions would prove false after the colonists who travelled there disappeared under mysterious circumstances. For over 400 years, the mystery of the Lost Colony has endured in the Chesapeake region of America and has yet to be definitively solved. Beginning in the 1580s, a series of ventures and ill fated colonization attempts laid the context and set the stage for the greatest vanishing act in American history. From supply shortages and unfavorable weather, to misunderstandings and violent interactions with the indigenous people all three attempts to settle at Roanoke Island were thwarted in one fashion or another. The third colonization attempt would not prove to be a charm for England, as these 118 colonists disappeared with little evidence of what had happened to them. Background There were several factors that influenced Queen Elizabeth I of England to grant Sir William Raleigh a charter to colonize North America on March 25, 1584 (Mallios p.59). Tensions between the English and Spanish governments were strained at the time that this charter was granted. • 31. The Dangerous Effects of Chemical Warfare in World War One Upon the battlefield of World War One, soldiers huddle in trenches, faces veiled behind gas masks. These bulky facial coverings were designed to protect the soldiers from deadly gases used by the enemy. The use of chemical agents in World War One led to the need for the production of better protection from the deadly effects of the agents. Chlorine gas could be dropped from cylinders above the victims, its high density causing it to flow downwards onto its unsuspecting foe (Fire 121). Also, the British Authorities struggled to decide whether or not to approve the use of gas for offensive use, and whether a large scale chemical war was something to be avoided at all costs (Girard 107). The gas masks worn by soldiers increased their discomfort and made it hard to move around, instilling a sense of panic in them when a gas raid was underway (Fire 121). The French were the first to fire asphyxiating gas shells from field guns and pioneered the use of gas as a neutralization weapon (Krause 553). The psychological damage of gas attacks on soldiers was mainly because of the horror of seeing their unprepared comrades suffocating and screaming in agony from burns inflicted by mustard gas (Fitzgerald 611). Animals were used in the World War, horses for transport, pigeons for contact, and dogs for protection and defense (Walk). Obviously, there would have to be modified gas masks for the animals on the battle field (Walk.) The panic of the early days of gas research led to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first gas powered automobile, the assembly line and the refrigerator were produced in the early 20th century. These are all very important steps in laying the foundation for the modernization of America, but I would argue that the first truly modern period in American history would have to be the 1920s. Advertising and the availability of financing brought about a consumer revolution. The new consumer products appealed to people s social ambitions. Very few of the products were necessities, but eventually, participating in the consumerism culture became a standard for judging one s value; rather than religion, character or social standing as it had been before the 1920s. Business is the other main area that accented the transition to modernization. Big business was seen throughout the later half of the 19th century, but there was a major shift that changed American business and employment forever. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself. Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork required. Each new trip allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these lessons. When I was in high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing anesthesiologists in San Francisco. In the landmark case of Salomon v Salomon, the court stated that the liability of company shareholders is limited only to the extent of their capital contributions. The court also explained that since companies are separate legal entities from shareholders, they are separately liable for debt and obligatory responsibilities. However, there have been special circumstances where English courts have found it necessary to lift the corporate veil for the sake of delivering justice. Although such instances are rare, the possibility of lifting the corporate veil has generated controversy. Such controversy primarily revolves around the uncertainty of circumstances in which lifting the corporate veil is necessary. This paper provides a critical analysis of instances in which lifting the corporate veil is necessary. The analysis applies examples and evidence from English case law, statutes and other applicable legal principles. Lifting the corporate veil Fraud (avoiding existing obligations) The most prominent instance in which English courts allow lifting of the corporate veil is when individuals establish companies to commit fraud. Fraud, in this case, means avoidance of existing obligations resultant of contracts or legal provisions. The Salomon case is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Flaubert use of they and them, further separates Emma from the festivities of the upper class. Additionally, as Emma is preparing for the ball, she is striving to appear as extravagant as possible. She did her hair according to the directions of the hairdresser, and put on the barege dress (Flaubert, 42 44) Thus, Flaubert emphasizes that Emma s is unable to prepare for the ball without directions implying that she is not able to be a part of the upper class events without guidance. Therefore, her only connection to the upper class at the ball are her clothes. Also, Flaubert further separates Emma and Charles from the rest of the guest, by having them arrive in a dog cart (Flaubert, 41). Hence, Flaubert advocates that no matter how much the middle class aspires to be a part of the upper class through material items they will never have the means to do so. Flaubert further emphasizes the separation between Emma and the rest of the guests when he writes: Emma was listening to a conversation full of words she did not understand (Flaubert, 45). Flaubert is highlighting how out of place Emma is, yet how aloof Emma remains. She is still listening even though she doesn t understand what they are saying. Overall, Flaubert utilizes perspective in order to highlight Emma s aspirations to be a part of the upper class, through her appearance and material items. Ultimately, Flaubert is critiquing the French middle class in that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Music Industry Is An Oligopoly The music industry is an oligopoly. Since the late 1800 s people like Thomas Edison have been buying up patents in communication technology, forming monopolies, leading to a non competitive entertainment industry. With only a handful of corporations controlling all aspects of acquisition, distribution and marketing of music, harsh business principles create an exploitative industry that takes the best of what artists have to offer and leaves many of them unable to support themselves. Beginning in the 1950 s with payola and white cover music and ultimately evolving into iTunes and Spotify, the music industry has grown into a billion dollar industry with far reaching influence and control. Contracts rarely serve the artists best interest and many are left out to dry when their usefulness has expired. In the 1950 s, radio was struggling to keep ratings against the emerging new television craze. Music executives began to pay disk jockeys to play their music. It is called payola and it is still in practice today, although it is technically illegal. The record companies write off the legal fines imposed by the Federal Communications Act as an expense of promotion (Campbell p.88). Black artists in the 50 s were writing some of the most inventive and marketable music of the time, but their music was still not palatable to a white audience as long as it was played by black musicians. Record companies began buying the songs of poor black musicians and giving them to their exclusively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Captain! Each poem contains an extended metaphor. In Dickinson s poem, a bird clearly symbolizes hope. The first stanza introduces the bird metaphor: ‘Hope is the thing with feathers /That perches in the soul. The next lines ‘And sings the tune without the words /And never stops—at all— illustrate the interminable nature of the bird and hope. The second stanza expands the metaphor by saying ‘And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—. The bird s song, or hope, is the sweetest during a Gale, or troubled times. The first lines in the final stanza ‘I ve heard it in the chillest land / And on the strangest Sea describe the bird, or hope, as being everywhere. The last lines ‘Yet, never, in Extremity,/It asked a crumb—of Me show the unselfish nature of the bird; hope never asks for anything in return. O Captain! My Captain! contains a more complicated and cryptic extended metaphor. Basically, Abraham Lincoln captains the metaphorical ship of the United States through the Civil War. For example, when we look at statues (of people) the first thing we notice is the face and that is what we base beauty on. However, when you remove the face you can look at other parts and see how they have their own allure. Rilke starts off with we cannot know his legendary head , stating how the head, the main focal point of a statue, is missing. The poem then goes and yet his torso is still suffused with brilliance because the torso is all that is left to look at and is still brilliant in itself. The strongest point is which his gaze, now turned to low, gleams in all its power. Otherwise the curved breast could not dazzle you so . The torso (and breast) is now the focal point after time has broken the perfect face which now has no gaze to turn on viewers. But now the breast, the shoulders, and hips can demonstrate the careful craftsmanship of the marble. These individual elements can now be looked at in awe because they are the big picture now. Rilke makes a pattern of pointing out missing parts from the statue and that contributes to the idea that beauty can be found in each element, because the spotlight is now turned on each part in ...
