My Country, Saudi Arabia, is Face Many Problems
Although my country is facing a lot of internal and external challenges, it remains steadfast, thanks to
the wise policy that instilled confidence in our hearts, but there are some problems that can happen in
a lot of developed countries, such as environmental , social and educational problems. Solving these
problems helps to push vehicle of progress and civilization forward , so I will talk about three
problems face my country .
The first problem environmentally is dust storms. In the last ten years, a rate of dust storms in Saudi
Arabia has been increased. For example, Statistics indicate that it has compiled by Salih Rubaiaan,
who is a historian , that proportion of dust increased from eight days in 1983 to 82 days in 2007,
meaning that sandstorms increased by eight times what it was in 1983. Reasons for the increasing due
to a lack of rainfall as the main reason, but there are others, such as: overgrazing, receding green
space; loss of a large number of trees that is buffer dust, and wars in neighboring region. The military
mechanisms led to crack solid layers that formed over time, so environmental damages are health and
economic problems. The health problem is increasing incidence of allergic diseases, asthma and eye
diseases. In a report to Ministry of Health says that number of patients and visitors to hospital
emergency departments in Riyadh region are more than 700 cases daily due to dust storms. The
economic problem is business

Michelangelo, David And The Sistine Chapel Ceuilt During...
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni built the Pietà from 1498 to 1499, during the Italian
Renaissance. The scene of the Pietà shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Christ after his
crucifixion, death, and removal from the cross, but before he was placed in the tomb. This is one of
the key events from the life of the Virgin, known as the Seven Sorrows of Mary, which were the
subject of Catholic devotional prayers.
Michelangelo was born in 1475 in present day Tuscany, and died in 1564 in Rome. He is known for
his sculptures, paintings, architecture, and poetry. He laid the foundations for mannerism, and was
considered to be the greatest living artist during his lifetime, and is still considered to be one of the
greatest artists of all time. He is the best documented artist of the 16th century and is acknowledged to
be one of the most paid artists in his day. Michelangelo became an apprentice to a painter before
studying in the sculpture gardens of the powerful Medici family, under the respected sculptor Bertoldo
di Giovanni. He was very religious which was reflected in his art and he primarily worked for the
church. Some of his most famous works are: The Pietà, David, and the the Sistine Chapel Ceiling.
David is a nude statue of the Biblical hero, David. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is a series of
frescoes displaying nine scenes from the Book of Genesis. He didn t like painting and was reluctant to
paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel but was forced

The Ruin
In The Anglo Saxons, Roman rule in Britain is said to have lasted from around 43 to 410 AD
(Campbell 8). After roughly 350 years, the Roman Britain era came to a full stop, only to be swiftly
overtaken by that of the Anglo Saxons this staunch ending is what a number of Anglo Saxon historians
attempt to convey, at least. In truth, power shifts in such nations are met with great complexity.
Despite the Anglo Saxon presence within the country, Britain was still rife with Roman infrastructure,
from pre existing roads to intact buildings. Not only were these constructions present, but they were
utilized for transit and trade, as well as recreationally. If infrastructure remained past the establishment
of Anglo Saxon power in Britain, cultural trends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the ease with which the text approaches the intermingling of Anglo Saxon and Roman culture
becomes blatantly apparent once considering the use of Latin loan words within The Ruin. When
considering the content of a poem, diction is often of the highest importance; by borrowing Latin amid
a poem which is primarily written in Old English, the wall between such cultures begin to crack. In
P.J. Frankis s article on diction in Anglo Saxon literature, he points to the a verse of the first line of
The Ruin, noting that the prefix of the word waelstan, or weal , is taken from Latin. He continues,
pointing to the word towers, or torras, another loan word (Frankis 225). The poet of The Ruin simply
may not have had the Old English translations for such words at their disposal. However, if these
Latin terms were purposely integrated into the text, they hold a vast amount of significance. The Ruin
literally joins Old English and Latin together in a closed space, forcing them to coexist in a state that
isn t divided by time. While Anglo Saxon constructs may frame the entirety of the text, the content of
the piece certainly has Roman influences scattered throughout. In light of the power of diction within
The Ruin, it is also worth looking at how culturally significant religious phrases and words are filtered

Organizations like Amazon store realized that attaining long term customer value through delivery of
quality services is the key to their existence. Also, be alert to the customer s needs and wants, because
having a loyal base of satisfied customer brings relevant performance indicators. For example,
increase in sales improved profits, and possible higher market share (Shamma Hassan, 2013).
Position and benefits of customer‐driven
Benchmarking is a great starting point. However, in some cases the performance comparison do not
uncover the real scope of the challenge of practical leadership and effectiveness. It can take to an
unproductive analysis in the competitive gap identified. Furthermore, it can lead to the development of
capabilities that can help to beat the existed and forthcoming competition (Shamma Hassan, 2013).
Amazon s excellence depends in the attention the leadership keep on customers and maintain the best
practice in all aspects of the business. The company knows that thanks to the customers they had
succeed in short of period. The well known marketing note that the customer is always the king means
that all company decisions should be conducted based on the customer s desires and wishes.
Companies need to understand how products and services are supplied and, know how to identify
what the business needs to source to meet customer expectations (Shamma Hassan, 2013).

him who killed his own brother, but on the other hand lived a long life full of children. This story is

Analysis Of Chester Himes s If He Hollers Let Him Go
In Chester Himes , If He Hollers Let Him Go the racial tension between blacks and whites was
perfectly portrayed by protagonist Bob Jones and white counterpart, Madge. The relationship between
the two was a great example of the advantage that was taken of African Americans in the United
States before the Civil Rights Movement. Being friends with someone opposite of your race was
frowned upon. With that in mind, for a white woman and a black man to be in a relationship was
completely unacceptable. There were exceptions for any interracial couples. The memoir by Lillian
Smith, Killers of The Dream also discussed the sexual tension between blacks and whites. In the 1940

Back in that time, it only took the word of a white man or woman to convince a jury, mostly
comprised of all white men and woman, that a black man rapped a woman for them to be killed. For
Bob, to even think about wanting to pursue any type of sexual relationship with Madge involves
enough risk that he cannot take because it could easily compromise his relationship with Alice and
most obvious, his life. Lillian Smith explains in her memoir that in order to move forward in societal
change, something needs to be done about the treatment of interracial marriage and how it is seen in
the United States. In order for that change to occur, first we need to recognize the way African
Americans are being treated in our society. There is a tremendous stigma of having sex before
marriage in the deep south back in the 1940 s as well as today. Being that Smith was raised in a
conservative town with values reflecting that notion, it would be extremely hard to get away with

I Shall Use Blackburn s `` Think ``
Initial answer: My initial answer to the question of whether or not we have free will is yes, we do
indeed have free will.
Philosophical Context: I shall use Blackburn s Think to discuss my question and initial answer. In
Think, Blackburn has a chapter dedicated to discussing the presence of free will and both arguments
for and against its presence.
Objection 1: In the beginning of chapter 4 of Think, Blackburn brings up the idea of determinism, or
the idea that every event is the upshot of previous antecedent causes. His argument goes The past
controls the present and the future. You can t control the past. Also, you can t control the way that the
past controls the future. So, you can t control the present or the future. This means that every action or
event that happens in the present was set in motion by the past and there is nothing that you can do it
change it the future has already been set. Therefore, there is no free will involved because you are just
doing what is a consequence of the past events and cannot be held accountable for your actions. Some
may then reference quantum mechanics, as Blackburn does, and say some events just happen as
shown in the quantum world. But this then leads to the same conclusion; whether determinism holds
or it doesn t and events just happen, you will lose freedom and responsibility.
Response to objection 1: Even though we are not able to control the past, that doesn t mean that one
can t change the future or be held

Diction In A Tale Of Two Cities
The Use of Diction and Characterization in A Tale of Two Cities
In Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities, it is explicitly mentioned several times that Charles Darnay
and Sydney Carton look particularly similar. The similarities in the appearances of Carton and Darnay
later play a substantial role in the conclusion of the novel. Despite their physical similarities, the two
are completely different individuals and are nothing alike. Chapter 4 of the novel juxtaposes the two
characters together and displays the differences in their personalities. In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles

Darnay is a softhearted, admirable man, who despite his ties to the French aristocracy, rejects their
ungracious principles. Darnay also can be regarded as a modest man. After he is acquitted by Carton,
he elucidates that I hardly seem yet, returned Charles Darnay, to belong to this world again. (Dickens

life. He feels that he cannot rightfully exist without continually being reminded of his past actions.
The quote uses diction to display Darnay s feelings, and portrays him as a prudent man. In the chapter,
Darnay clearly wishes to avoid conflict with Sydney Carton, characterizing him as a kindhearted,
benevolent man. He says, Nevertheless, pursued Darnay, rising to ring the bell, there is nothing in that,
I hope, to prevent my calling the reckoning, and our parting without ill blood on either side. (Dickens
85). Essentially, Darnay elucidates that whether or not Carton tolerates him, he should still express his
gratitude for his assistance in the trial. Charles Darnay declares that the two should not be on poor
terms, although they mutually dislike each other. Darnay does not want to depart from dinner with the
agony of ill blood with Carton, and hopes his declaration will sway Carton to reconcile. His statement
displays how compassionate and amiable Charles Darnay is, and how he truly serves as a role model

Has America Changed Over The Years Essay
America was built off of We the people but the question is has that changed over the years? I think
that it has definitely changed over the years. We the people isn t talked about much today because
when issues come about the government seems to want to please more of the people that have the
problem with a so called Issue . I feel it has gotten to a point that we have went away from what we
have built our country on. The 10 amendments were put into a place for a reason and as years have
passed I feel that the government doesn t go back to those amendments when making any choices.

His plan to defeat free nations was nearly successful. If the United States had not stepped in Hitler
would have been successful. America could not stand by and see other countries freedoms taken from
them. The aim of Americas involvement in WWI was to preserve democracy. Why is that freedom not
important today? Over the years America s freedoms have expanded but not for the good. People now
think there personal preference comes before the majority of the people. When America established
rules they were based on the Ten Commandments. Over the years it has seemed that America as a
whole has went away from that. It also seems that if some people aren t happy about something its
automatically in their favor rather than the majority and this leads to more problems and more issues
among the American people. These freedoms have expanded to the point that the majority will lose the
right to have a choice. One example is that some people had a problem with prayer in schools. So they
went through the court system, followed all the rules and because of that one person prayer was taken
out of all schools. So now parents are now have to explain to their children why that one person made
it to where they could no longer pray in

Role Of Public Health In The 21st Century
The 21st Century has seen the healthcare system struggle with challenges such as an increase in
chronic conditions, an increase in government spending on public health, and emerging threats such as
global health security and antibiotic resistance. On the positive side, more people have gained access
to care. To deal with these emerging issues as well as existing challenges, we need an effective public
health workforce. The public health has the role of protecting the health of citizens. This could be
through health promotion and lobbying for increased access to care. To address the problem of the rise
in chronic ailments, public health has a role of creating awareness on chronic conditions, their
symptoms and management. This is because these conditions are expensive to treat and drain the
resources of patients and their families. Public health should therefore educate the public on the
importance of screening and conduct these screening services for early diagnosis and prevention of
chronic diseases. Another role of public health in the 21st Century is to provide and use evidence
based practice in providing clinical services. This would help in addressing some of the emerging
challenges such as antibiotic resistance.

Untwine Analysis
The last huge piece of Untwine is how religion and hope can change a person. We learn right away
that the Boyer family goes to church every Sunday, and has much hope in God. But how that hope in
God fades away changes Giselle and her overall hope for happiness. One example of this is when
pastor Ben is telling the family that she will wake up. Like Lazarus. (pg 52). This message from pastor
Ben gave the reader a sense of the belief of the Boyers, and the hope they have in situations because of
their belief that everyone would have a chance to wake up and be heard. Another important thing to
realize was when Giselle said who would I be? Who could I be without her? (pg 51). This revealed
some of her feelings to God as she thought this. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song The Firebird has a very fast moving, bipolar feel to it, which resembles Giselle s feeling
towards the situation of blaming God in my opinion. Another example of her feelings to God is when
Giselle says their thinking nothing bad can ever happen to them (pg 51). It showed her overall
lementation with her mind, but also with God. Giselle clearly chooses to blame her sisters death on
anyone, as she chooses to blame it on one of the biggest people in her life that she keeps her hope and
faith in. Maybe Giselle chooses to do this because she can t think of the real person to blame. Maybe
she chooses to do this because she s too afraid to come to the true reality of her situation and her silent
grief is too much for her to handle, so she needs support to get through everything. And maybe
everything is just blaming who she can. But Giselle chooses to blame God, and God is where her and
her family put their hope. When Giselle talks about their being more invisible places than visible one
she touches the thought that maybe that s where she s been looking for. The more invisible places than
visible ones, as an escape with Isabelle, but also a prayer for God, as she needs God to do something

Three Day Diet Analysis
Growing up I have always given my dad a hard time for his weight until about four years ago when he
pulled out his wedding tux and I tried it on and could not fit in it. I am currently six foot four inches
and weight approximately one hundred and fifty pounds so you can share my amazement when I
found out that I couldn t fit into my two hundred and fifty pound father s tux. My dad got married
when he was twenty two and I just turned twenty two, so I believe that it is about time to start being
more a wear of what I eat. Being that I am currently underweight, I haven t had to discipline myself
when it comes to eating too much. My ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My lunches will be foods that give me two ounces of grains, one cup of vegetables, and one cup of
dairy. My afternoon break is a perfect time for my afternoon snack that will consist of one ounce of
grain, a half cup of vegetables, a half cup of dairy, and two ounces of protein foods. My last meal of
the day should contain two ounces of grains, one cup of vegetables, one cup of fruits, and two ounces
of protein foods. Seeing the meal plans makes me feel like this diet is going to be something I am able
to do.
I am a very active person, I think this is a contributing factor for my weight problem, and a proper diet
like the meal plans provided by Super Tracker will give me the nutrients my body needs to drive
through my work days with less fatigue and exhaustion. For as long as I remember my work days have
consisted of my waking up, working, coming home and hitting the sack as soon as possible. With a
proper diet, I have hopes of not only having more energy for work, but also for after work activities.
There are so many things that I just cannot accomplish on my limited days off work. It would be ideal
if I could take care of stuff during the work week as well. I guess in order for me to take care of
things, I must first take care of myself by giving my body what it needs to be healthy and strong.

The Performance Of A Company
INTRODUCTION
The performance of a company is based on multiple internal factors and the most important one, lies
on the day to day operations of the business. It comes down to maximizing profit and minimizing cost
by operating efficiently to secure profits that can support the growth of the company. One of the key
component of economic growth, is productivity. Low productivity can affect income, hence
purchasing power or investment opportunities. With minimal losses, companies are likely to generate
profits and improve on sales performance by optimizing their resources. Consequently, reducing
losses is becoming a fundamental element to gain competitiveness in the current global economy.

It is more practical for instance, for a delivery truck driver to make his round when there is less traffic

The lean practice would enable the driver to gather relevant information, put together a comprehensive
operating plan and establish a set of standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure compliance within
the organisation. The SOPs will be updated as opportunities for improvements arise. Employees are
encouraged to take initiatives to overcome their day to day challenges and proper training of
employees play a key role as well as empowerment. This principle is also referred to as lean
fulfillment at work. It consists of entrusting, inspiring and motivating employees at work.
The lean practice advocates for the creation of a more value added system geared towards customer
satisfaction and employee empowerment for sustainable improvements. This approach is in clear
contrast with the systematic breakdown of labor Taylorism and Fordism in which the worker is like a
transformed machine. They are specialised in one particular skill and develop a set of conditioned
reflexes which can lead to alienation and monotony at work. The employee is not part of the decision
process. He/she takes directions from management.
Lean includes a set of tools and technologies for improving processes and services. The implement in
an organization would be to develop methods that are both

eliciting help from preoccupied parents. Preoedipal and oedipal issues appear to be at the root of many
of these problems (Sours, 1980; Schulman, 2002). Sours (1980), one of the first theorists to study the
role that oedipal and preoedipal issues played in eating disorders, noted that his anorexic patients
demonstrated separation anxieties as well as fear of control. Additional research offers confirmatory
evidence that oedipal and preoedipal issues are salient for women with bulimia (Sperling, 1978;
Wilson, 1992; Schulman, 2002). Therefore, bulimia nervosa (BN) can appropriately be conceptualized
as reflecting both oedipal and preoedipal pathology, depending on the individual s central conflicts.
For individuals whose central conflict reflects an inability to control or inhibit aggressive and libidinal
impulses, bulimic symptoms symbolize one s ambivalence about aggression and sexuality. Food

remain connected to the mother while also achieving some degree of separation (p. 129). During my

The Gender Pay Gap
The Equal Pay Act of 1963, established during the Kennedy administration, promised the people equal
pay for equal work. Since then, the gender wage gap has been narrowing every year, but it still does
exist in the United States. The gender wage gap is the difference between what women get paid and
what men get paid for doing the same job. The discrimination subject on gender salaries earned by
women have continued to be a complicated matter. It has turned into an issue which combines our
business economics and social culture. As time has slowly progressed, women now make on average
79 cents for every dollar men make. Shockingly, only a 20 cent increase over the last 54 years. At this
rate, per the Institute of Women s Policy Research, it could take a full 45 years before this gender
inequality disappears. One of the main issues why women are paid less than their male counterparts is
simple, because they are women. Discrimination and stereotyping is the most common argument used
to explain the gender pay gap. There have been numerous research studies that compared to men, are
less likely to be hired and especially for high paying jobs. They unfortunately are offered a much
lower salary. For example, a recent experiment revealed that when a group of science professors were
presented with identical resumes, one with the name John and the other Jennifer, they offered the male
applicant for a lab manager position a salary nearly $4,000 more (NWLC). The professors

Descriptive Essay On Gospel Music
As I entered Chrysler Hall I instantly became nervous. Shamefully Mann s World Concert and
Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever attended. I didn t know what to
expect. I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I should be. The only songs that I have heard the Mann
family perform were the songs they performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the popular
ones that play on the radio. I glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house. The
audience had several nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a deejay table off
to the side entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats. The stage had band instruments
towards the back of the stage with a deejay table in front of them. The lights were beautiful; they
displayed various scenes and sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on stage was David Mann
Jr. He walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center stage. His energy and music
selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party. The lights on the stage had a party
appearance and holograms of a dancer. As the lights begin to flash a different color I anxiously waited
for the next song to start. He played all the family reunion and cookout party hits such as The

Character Roles In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Kate Chopin s The Awakening certainly links in with Propp s character functions, although often
Chopin seemed to play around with her characters, changing their functions as the novel evolved and
so on. In the case of this novel, Propp s functions definitely aid our understanding of the mindset of
both Chopin and her heroine, Edna. Chopin both incorporates and manipulates the concept of
character functions. Several of the characters experience a change in their function as the novel goes
on, with some falling under more than one heading. An interesting aspect of the novel is that the
character functions can be observed differently by Edna, and by the reader. This adds to the experience
and comprehension of the novel as we can view it from two mindsets.
From early on, we are introduced to Léonce Pontellier as the villain . He is trapping Edna in a
restrictive world; in a horrible stereotype. However, Mr. Pontellier as the ... Show more content on

For this reason, the reader may not view him as such, and may rather label him a victim. Léonce
Pontellier is a villain because he assumes his wife will be the perfect housewife, like the women who

fashioned for Edna and is unable to satisfy all of her needs, and her expectations for her life. As is said
in The Awakening, ...all declared that Mr. Pontellier was the best husband in the world (p 9). In some
ways this is true, for a man of his time, Mr. Pontellier would have seemed the perfect husband;
supporting the family, spending time with his children and caring for his wife. However, there are
some moments of blatant sexism, such as his assuming that she would care for the children alone (p

Epictetus Vs 90210
The Handbook vs. 90210
Finding happiness in life is the ultimate goal for many people; this task, however, is not easy. In a
world surrounded by temptation, it is often extremely difficult to distinguish the difference between
what leads to true happiness and what only temporarily gratifies. Innumerable philosophers have tried
to tackle this challenge, and each has left behind various theories on how to achieve happiness. One of
the most famous philosophers, Epictetus, came to the conclusion that Stoicism is the best way to find
happiness in the mortal world. Epictetus lived from approximately 50 130 A.D. and the stoic
movement began to catch on even earlier, around 300 B.C. (Epictetus 1). Stoicism, however, takes an
extreme approach of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps this was plausible hundreds of years ago when the world was a much smaller place, but
modern society certainly won t allow for that type of behavior. The television show 90210 depicts the
modern take on happiness, and is quite the opposite of Epictetus teachings. The characters on the
show attribute opulent wealth and rising social status to the concept of the good life. While Epictetus
and the characters of 90210 have very different ideas of happiness and the good life, both parties
would benefit greatly from each other. 90210 and Epictetus show two extreme and opposite versions
of the good life, neither of which can be successful on their own. Achieving the good life a state of
well being, tranquility, and happiness requires a combination of Epictetus teachings and the modern
conception as depicted in 90210. Doing so will allow people to find a happy medium without

In the history, the first conception of materials appeared in 1865. It was a book named Prehistoric

these durations those name is the people who live in that period used different kinds of materials to
make different generation of tools. According to John s book, The Stone Age is divided into Beginning
Of The Stone Age and End Of The Stone Age.[14] (Source ?) The oldest evidence of stone tool found

Solving these problems helps to push vehicle of progress and civilization forward , so I will talk about three problems face my country . The first problem environmentally is dust storms. In the last ten years, a rate of dust storms in Saudi Arabia has been increased. For example, Statistics indicate that it has compiled by Salih Rubaiaan, who is a historian , that proportion of dust increased from eight days in 1983 to 82 days in 2007, meaning that sandstorms increased by eight times what it was in 1983. Reasons for the increasing due to a lack of rainfall as the main reason, but there are others, such as: overgrazing, receding green space; loss of a large number of trees that is buffer dust, and wars in neighboring region. The military mechanisms led to crack solid layers that formed over time, so environmental damages are health and economic problems. • 3. Michelangelo, David And The Sistine Chapel Ceuilt During... Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni built the Pietà from 1498 to 1499, during the Italian Renaissance. The scene of the Pietà shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Christ after his crucifixion, death, and removal from the cross, but before he was placed in the tomb. This is one of the key events from the life of the Virgin, known as the Seven Sorrows of Mary, which were the subject of Catholic devotional prayers. Michelangelo was born in 1475 in present day Tuscany, and died in 1564 in Rome. He is known for his sculptures, paintings, architecture, and poetry. Michelangelo became an apprentice to a painter before studying in the sculpture gardens of the powerful Medici family, under the respected sculptor Bertoldo di Giovanni. He was very religious which was reflected in his art and he primarily worked for the church. Some of his most famous works are: The Pietà, David, and the the Sistine Chapel Ceiling. • 4. The Ruin In The Anglo Saxons, Roman rule in Britain is said to have lasted from around 43 to 410 AD (Campbell 8). After roughly 350 years, the Roman Britain era came to a full stop, only to be swiftly overtaken by that of the Anglo Saxons this staunch ending is what a number of Anglo Saxon historians attempt to convey, at least. In truth, power shifts in such nations are met with great complexity. Despite the Anglo Saxon presence within the country, Britain was still rife with Roman infrastructure, from pre existing roads to intact buildings. Not only were these constructions present, but they were utilized for transit and trade, as well as recreationally. If infrastructure remained past the establishment of Anglo Saxon power in Britain, cultural trends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, the ease with which the text approaches the intermingling of Anglo Saxon and Roman culture becomes blatantly apparent once considering the use of Latin loan words within The Ruin. When considering the content of a poem, diction is often of the highest importance; by borrowing Latin amid a poem which is primarily written in Old English, the wall between such cultures begin to crack. In P.J. Frankis s article on diction in Anglo Saxon literature, he points to the a verse of the first line of The Ruin, noting that the prefix of the word waelstan, or weal , is taken from Latin. He continues, pointing to the word towers, or torras, another loan word (Frankis 225). The poet of The Ruin simply may not have had the Old English translations for such words at their disposal. However, if these Latin terms were purposely integrated into the text, they hold a vast amount of significance. The Ruin literally joins Old English and Latin together in a closed space, forcing them to coexist in a state that isn t divided by time. While Anglo Saxon constructs may frame the entirety of the text, the content of the piece certainly has Roman influences scattered throughout. In light of the power of diction within The Ruin, it is also worth looking at how culturally significant religious phrases and words are filtered through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Chester Himes s If He Hollers Let Him Go In Chester Himes , If He Hollers Let Him Go the racial tension between blacks and whites was perfectly portrayed by protagonist Bob Jones and white counterpart, Madge. The relationship between the two was a great example of the advantage that was taken of African Americans in the United States before the Civil Rights Movement. Being friends with someone opposite of your race was frowned upon. With that in mind, for a white woman and a black man to be in a relationship was completely unacceptable. Lillian Smith explains in her memoir that in order to move forward in societal change, something needs to be done about the treatment of interracial marriage and how it is seen in the United States. In order for that change to occur, first we need to recognize the way African Americans are being treated in our society. There is a tremendous stigma of having sex before marriage in the deep south back in the 1940 s as well as today. Philosophical Context: I shall use Blackburn s Think to discuss my question and initial answer. In Think, Blackburn has a chapter dedicated to discussing the presence of free will and both arguments for and against its presence. Objection 1: In the beginning of chapter 4 of Think, Blackburn brings up the idea of determinism, or the idea that every event is the upshot of previous antecedent causes. His argument goes The past controls the present and the future. You can t control the past. Also, you can t control the way that the past controls the future. So, you can t control the present or the future. This means that every action or event that happens in the present was set in motion by the past and there is nothing that you can do it change it the future has already been set. Therefore, there is no free will involved because you are just doing what is a consequence of the past events and cannot be held accountable for your actions. Some may then reference quantum mechanics, as Blackburn does, and say some events just happen as shown in the quantum world. But this then leads to the same conclusion; whether determinism holds or it doesn t and events just happen, you will lose freedom and responsibility. On the positive side, more people have gained access to care. To deal with these emerging issues as well as existing challenges, we need an effective public health workforce. The public health has the role of protecting the health of citizens. This could be through health promotion and lobbying for increased access to care. To address the problem of the rise in chronic ailments, public health has a role of creating awareness on chronic conditions, their symptoms and management. Sours (1980), one of the first theorists to study the role that oedipal and preoedipal issues played in eating disorders, noted that his anorexic patients demonstrated separation anxieties as well as fear of control. Additional research offers confirmatory evidence that oedipal and preoedipal issues are salient for women with bulimia (Sperling, 1978; Wilson, 1992; Schulman, 2002). Therefore, bulimia nervosa (BN) can appropriately be conceptualized as reflecting both oedipal and preoedipal pathology, depending on the individual s central conflicts. For individuals whose central conflict reflects an inability to control or inhibit aggressive and libidinal impulses, bulimic symptoms symbolize one s ambivalence about aggression and sexuality. Food becomes a medium through which these individuals express and manage threatening feelings associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For individuals whose central conflict reflects an inability to achieve separateness in close relationships, bulimic symptoms represent ambivalence about separation and dependency. Food is used to master desires/fears of becoming engulfed by the maternal object. The influence of the mother daughter relationship in anorexia and bulimia is well documented. For example, Schulman (2002) argued that the oedipal and preoedipal issues present in BN represent a daughter s attempt to take in a maternal object and spit her out. Schulman hypothesized that this was a way for the young woman to remain connected to the mother while also achieving some degree of separation (p. 129). • 30. The Gender Pay Gap The Equal Pay Act of 1963, established during the Kennedy administration, promised the people equal pay for equal work. Since then, the gender wage gap has been narrowing every year, but it still does exist in the United States. The gender wage gap is the difference between what women get paid and what men get paid for doing the same job. The discrimination subject on gender salaries earned by women have continued to be a complicated matter. It has turned into an issue which combines our business economics and social culture. As time has slowly progressed, women now make on average 79 cents for every dollar men make. Shockingly, only a 20 cent increase over the last 54 years. At this rate, per the Institute of Women s Policy Research, it could take a full 45 years before this gender inequality disappears. One of the main issues why women are paid less than their male counterparts is simple, because they are women. Discrimination and stereotyping is the most common argument used to explain the gender pay gap. There have been numerous research studies that compared to men, are less likely to be hired and especially for high paying jobs. They unfortunately are offered a much lower salary. For example, a recent experiment revealed that when a group of science professors were presented with identical resumes, one with the name John and the other Jennifer, they offered the male applicant for a lab manager position a salary nearly $4,000 more (NWLC). The professors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Descriptive Essay On Gospel Music As I entered Chrysler Hall I instantly became nervous. Shamefully Mann s World Concert and Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever attended. I didn t know what to expect. I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I should be. The only songs that I have heard the Mann family perform were the songs they performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the popular ones that play on the radio. I glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house. The audience had several nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a deejay table off to the side entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats. The stage had band instruments towards the back of the stage with a deejay table in front of them. The lights were beautiful; they displayed various scenes and sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on stage was David Mann Jr. He walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center stage. His energy and music selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party. The lights on the stage had a party appearance and holograms of a dancer. As the lights begin to flash a different color I anxiously waited for the next song to start. He played all the family reunion and cookout party hits such as The Emotions Best of My Love, Carl Carlton s She s a Bad Mama Jama, Cheryl Lynn s Got to be Real, Curtis Blow s These are the Breaks, Cameo s Candy, Maze and Frankie Beverly s Before I ... • 35. Character Roles In Kate Chopin s The Awakening Kate Chopin s The Awakening certainly links in with Propp s character functions, although often Chopin seemed to play around with her characters, changing their functions as the novel evolved and so on. In the case of this novel, Propp s functions definitely aid our understanding of the mindset of both Chopin and her heroine, Edna. Chopin both incorporates and manipulates the concept of character functions. Several of the characters experience a change in their function as the novel goes on, with some falling under more than one heading. An interesting aspect of the novel is that the character functions can be observed differently by Edna, and by the reader. This adds to the experience and comprehension of the novel as we can view it from two mindsets. From early on, we are introduced to Léonce Pontellier as the villain . He is trapping Edna in a restrictive world; in a horrible stereotype. However, Mr. Pontellier as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, the reader may not view him as such, and may rather label him a victim. Léonce Pontellier is a villain because he assumes his wife will be the perfect housewife, like the women who idolized their children, worshipped their husbands, like Madame Ratignolle. Léonce is too old fashioned for Edna and is unable to satisfy all of her needs, and her expectations for her life. As is said in The Awakening, ...all declared that Mr. Pontellier was the best husband in the world (p 9). In some ways this is true, for a man of his time, Mr. Pontellier would have seemed the perfect husband; supporting the family, spending time with his children and caring for his wife. However, there are some moments of blatant sexism, such as his assuming that she would care for the children alone (p 6). This would be deemed unacceptable today, but using Mr. Pontellier as a medium, it helped me to understand the expectations of women in the late 19th century, which I found ... In a world surrounded by temptation, it is often extremely difficult to distinguish the difference between what leads to true happiness and what only temporarily gratifies. Innumerable philosophers have tried to tackle this challenge, and each has left behind various theories on how to achieve happiness. One of the most famous philosophers, Epictetus, came to the conclusion that Stoicism is the best way to find happiness in the mortal world. Epictetus lived from approximately 50 130 A.D. and the stoic movement began to catch on even earlier, around 300 B.C. (Epictetus 1). Stoicism, however, takes an extreme approach of both ... The television show 90210 depicts the modern take on happiness, and is quite the opposite of Epictetus teachings. The characters on the show attribute opulent wealth and rising social status to the concept of the good life. While Epictetus and the characters of 90210 have very different ideas of happiness and the good life, both parties would benefit greatly from each other. 90210 and Epictetus show two extreme and opposite versions of the good life, neither of which can be successful on their own. Achieving the good life a state of well being, tranquility, and happiness requires a combination of Epictetus teachings and the modern conception as depicted in 90210.
