Crash Of The Century Anthropology
A primary source that I found that relates with our course theme of horror and my concentration
of the unknown and unexpected is a documentary called Crash of the Century. This documentary
was created by Discovery World based on a true story. This documentary covers the unknown
line of events that led up to the fatal collision of two fully loaded Boeing 747s. On March 27,
1977, a KLM 747 and a Pan Am 747 were on route to the Gran Canaria International Airport when
unexpected calls were made by Canary Island Separatists that there were bombs at the airport.
Authorities closed down Gran Canaria International Airport and had to divert all flights to a
small airport in Los Rodeos. In total 5 large aircrafts were diverted to this small regional airport
that couldn t easily accommodate the aircrafts. Eventually after almost 4 hours from the original
diversion, the KLM was cleared to go the full length of a runway and do a 180В° turn. The Pan
Am flight was instructed to follow the KLM but take the 3rd exit off the runway to their left. The
Pan Am passed the 3rd exit off the runway and the KLM began taking off without proper
clearance. Nobody that day could ve predicted that the effects of an airport closing due to a bomb
threat would cause the horrific disaster of two Boeing 747s to collide and create the worst disaster
in aviation history.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By exploring background information on Crash of the Century such as date of horrific event, date
of release of the documentary, and attempts to minimize horror Crash of the Century can accurately
be evaluated in an ethical way. This horror is used to the advantage of the writers David Bedard and
Bernard Vaillot and producer Andy Webb by portraying the horrific unknown during the
introduction of the documentary that attempts to keep viewer watching to the end by using many
important literary devices such as ethos, pathos, logos, and

The Extinction, Endangerment, And Captivity Of Endangered...
Should we worry about the extinction, endangerment, and captivity of endangered species? That is
the pressing question that seems to bug all environmentalists and scientists are stressing over, how
long will it take for all of your animals to die out? And is it something we can stop or at least
contain meanwhile we are trying to find the long term solution for.
Can we prevent this from happening all together? Or is it far too late to save our species that are
dying out? We should worry about the extinction, endangerment and captivity of endangered species
because every animal is vital to their own ecosystems and keeps everything balanced.
Without balance, surely all of the ecosystems will collapse in on itself. What is a species? What
exactly is an endangered species? What is an extinct species? How have these species come to
the point of becoming endangered or extinct? What can we do to save the endangered species that
are near extinction? Can we actually do anything to save these species, or is it a lost cause? Why
should I care?
Most people do not know the answer to many of those questions. As much attention as this subject
gets from environmental groups and agencies, it gets just as much ignoring by the general public.
Many people feel compelled to help or contribute; yet few seldom do carry out their intentions. This
is a very serious subject that needs to receive immediate and full attention from the general public.
Only they can truly make a difference. The concept

Themes In The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank redemption is about much more than just a young banker spending many years of
his life in prison. It shows us the struggles inmates go through to adapt to an environment as harsh
as prisons and how creating friendships with others helps the men get through the rough patches.
The film demonstrates that prisonis a world of its own, with its own rules and how many men
struggle to fit back into society when they are released.
Shawshank Redemption uses many good techniques to capture moments brilliantly. A few
examples of these are: when Andy first arrives at Shawshank an establishing shot is used to
show the prison. This allows the viewer to witness how bare and dull the prison is and how the
prisoners are not allowed to express themselves in any way. Another example is the director uses
parallels. Both Red and Brooks have the same experiences when they leave Shawshank, showing
the plight the characters face in the real world due to institutionalisation. This makes us fear that
Red s path will end the same as Brooks . However, the director shows us that we have a choice
and that Red and Andy s friendship has come such a long way that he carries on going because he
gave Andy his word he would go to the oak tree. The last example is the type of lighting ... Show

The aim of Shawshank is to isolate and reform criminals and teach them right from wrong.
Instead, the prison is full of corruption, greed, bribery, and money laundering. Everyone uses the
system to their own advantage, from Red, who smuggles goods into the prison, all the way to the
warden, who profits from forced prison labour. The warden makes Andy launder money for him
and this stops him from helping prove Andy innocent so that Andy can never reveal his secret. The
fact that Shawshank is as corrupt and tainted as the outside world further justifies Andy s escape
from a hypocritical system that does not care for the prisoners lives or

Essay On The Journey To The Hill
They found a shallow cave and were able to retreat into it for the night. It would a long cold
night, one man would have to be awake at all times. Lieutenant Peters and Sergeant Pace felt that
the General shouldn t have to pull a shift, but BG General Clayton wouldn t have any of it. They
were in the field and he would pull his fair share. The night passed uneventful and the weather
had cleared, the three men left the cave before sunrise and headed for the high ground to get a
bearing on their location. They were hoping to find some land mark west of them that they could
head to. There was a hill a quarter of a mile west of their location. BG Clayton wouldn t have them

dust clouds. Let s saddle up and get moving. There was no questioning the Generals orders, they
all knew that was the way they had to go. There was enough coverage down there to keep them
concealed, at least thy hoped. All they needed to do was determine who it was and not get hot
while doing it. Once they were ready they heads down the western side of the hill, using the same
zigzag technique they had used to get up it. They also continued to focus on not placing
themselves in a situation where their silhouette was placed against the sky and they could be seen.
They found spots along the trail down where they attempted to determine the identity of the dust
clouds, to no avail. They continued down the hill, it took them sixty minutes to get down, they
could no longer see the cloud of dust. They moved slowly keeping deep in the woods towards the
original direction they had seen it. BG Clayton felt that if he was the commander of the column

The Case, The Hela Case Has Raised Questions About The...
I choose Henrietta Lacks study case, the HeLa case has raised questions about the legality of using
genetic materials without permission. Neither Mrs. Lacks nor her family granted permission to
harvest her cells, which were then cloned and sold since the 1950s. Recently, scientists at the
European Molecular Biology Laboratory published the genome of a line of HeLacells, making it
publicly available for downloading. Another study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health at
the University of Washington, was about to be published in Nature. The Lacks family was made
aware of neither project.
Eric S. Lander, the founding director of the Broad Institute, a science research center at Harvard
and M.I.T., said resolving these issues is crucial to taking advantage of the knowledge hidden in
our genomes. If we are going to solve cancer, it s going to take a movement of tens of thousands,
or hundreds of thousands, of patients willing to contribute information from their cancer genomes
towards a common good, Dr. Lander said. We are going to need to have ways to have patients feel
comfortable doing that. We can t do it without a foundation of respect and trust.
Henrietta Lacks was born Loretta Pleasant on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia, at some point
she changed her name to Henrietta. On January 1951 Mrs. Lack arrived at her local doctor with
abdominal pain, and profuse vaginal bleeding, she was tested for syphilis, which came back

A Clean And Organised House
A clean and organised house not only improves its looks, but also speaks highly of your
housekeeping habit. It is important for the health and hygiene of the inhabitants of the house. We
all know that, yet we cannot also deny that the task itself does not feel too appealing and regular
spring cleaning schedule leaves us all exhausted.
House cleaning regimen
Almost all of us try to follow a house cleaning schedule that suits us. However, there cannot be an
ideal cleaning schedule, what suits you may not suit your friend. So it is important to device a
routine that feels comfortable and manageable to you. Our hectic lifestyle makes it difficult to
spring cleanse the interiors regularly.
However, you can take small steps everyday to clean one area of your house that requires
immediate attention. Alternatively, you can generally try to keep things as organised as possible
and dust off a part of your room every day before undertaking any deep cleaning activities during
the weekends.
A clean house is the most basic requirement of a fashionable home. According to the traditional
wisdom of feng shui, positive energy circulates well in a decluttered home. Proper cleansing
extends the life of your valuable belongings. Books, clothes and accessories remain bug free. You
and your family can enjoy inhaling in a cleaner interior environment with fewer concerns for
allergic reactions.

Man s Inhumanity
Imagine having all of your belongings taken away from you in a matter of weeks and being
deported from your own country, becoming a refugee in the process. The events that took place in
Yugoslavia are an example of man s inhumanity to man for the following reasons. The conflict
between ethnic groups in Yugoslavia strengthened after their former president, Josip Tito, perished
and the next president was a Serbian named Slobodan Milosevic who was an impatient homophobic
serb who fed on hatred to gain power. The rise of extreme nationalist movements in the 20th century
led to many events expressing ethnically motivated brutality, such as The Holocaust, The Turkish

two to three when the palestinian side as at it s peak. Virtually all battles had Isreal on the

the statement that two of the arab armies only involved themselves in the war after the Zionist
forces had committed sixteen genocides, one of which was the gruesome massacre of 100 men
and women. In fact, one of the future Israeli prime ministers called the massacre splendid . The
Zionist forces went on to commit thirty three genocides in total. By the end of the war the
palestinians had lost 78% of the land to Israel, and three quarters of a million Palestinians had
been made refugees. Over 500 towns and villages had been obliterated and a new map was
drawn up, in which every city, river and hilltop received a new, Hebrew name, and all remnants
of the Palestinian culture in Israeli territory were erased. For decades Israel denied the existence
of this population, former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir once saying: There were no such
thing as Palestinians (Frank Giles Sunday Times). In 1967 Israel decided to seize more
palestinian land. Following the Six Day War, in which Israeli forces launched a highly successful
surprise attack on Egypt, Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip therefore successfully
gaining another 22% of Palestein s original land. Is this occasion similar enough to Yugoslavian

Shakespeare s Use of the Idea of Disguise in As You Like It
Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the
characters personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes
very comical as in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much
confusion and comedy in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a
character to act how they like and a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th
Century that there became an increased sense of self consciousness and identity. This led to people
creating an image for themselves. If one can create a self, they can create many different versions
of themselves each showing a different aspect of that person. This links in... Show more content on

As she is disguised as Ganymede, this is possible. She would not have been able to do this as a
woman. When she is disguised as a man, more people listen to Ganymede. Although it is the same
person, she can have much more say about her views and opinions when she is disguised as
Ganymede. However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not
mean that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is
revealing her true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise
may show other aspects of the character s personality but it is still shown through their everyday
person.
Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been
played by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason
Shakespeare included Rosalind s enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a
man in the attire of a woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the
play. By confusing the gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than
her appearance. The question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his
plays, Shakespeare ends with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it
, the epilogue
is performed by Rosalind. The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the actor was talking but
Rosalind is still in character. She says herself; It is

Men And The Paradox Of Sexual Freedom By Leslie Bell Essay
Men and women face many social obstacles when faced within a community that has demanding
masculine and feminine roles. Men are projected to be extremely masculine and not allow fear,
anxiety, or vulnerability to show through. Women, on the other hand, are encouraged to be strong,
pursue their careers, and experiment with their sexuality. Although women are gaining power,
they are still left with a feeling of confusion about themselves. Leslie Bell author of, Hard to Get:
Twenty Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom , reveals the idea of women
experimenting sexually, but at the same time experiencing a sense of confusion and pressure to
settle down and marry in their twenties. The societal view is confusing for twenty something
women which causes women to demonstrate either/ or thinking within themselves. Bell s patient,
Jayantha is splitting her desires by deciding to be bad and rejecting relationship and not showing
signs of vulnerability. Due to her confusion, Jayanthi chose an identity that she could fully control;
the bad girl. As mentioned previously, men are also exposed to certain morals within society
which are explored in Susan Faludi s The Naked Citadel . All of the cadets live as humans behind
the walls of The Citadel, where they can express their inner humanity, escape from difficulties of
being a manin the real world, while still following the standards of manliness. The Citadel is a
place that allows men to detach from the societal

Analysis of Woodrow Wilson s Fourteen Points
The Fourteen Points
President Wilson was determined to achieve peace. He based his peacemaking efforts in the
academic argument Fourteen Points. Ideas of freedom of the seas, internationalism and justice for
all were embedded in his idealistic approach, in an attempt to making long lasting peace.
The Fourteen Points were enthusiastically accepted by the United States, Allies and even Lenin
setting up the political mood as co operative and internationalized.
The summary of those points is as follows:
1.No more secret agreements ( Open covenants openly arrived at ).
2.Free navigation of all seas.
3.An end to all economic barriers between countries.

Austria Hungary was not ready to let Serbia, under the protection of Russia, take over territories.
Balkan was one of the most unstable areas at the time, due to its turbulent history and ethnic
diversity. Along the increase of nationalism, arms race was creating growing tensions that
eventually escalated into war. Germany was enlarging their military power, and France followed up
with doubling their army. These actions could be taken as the preparation for what was about to
happen.
The situation required the formation of alliances as an insurance of support in case the war would
break out. Central Powers consisted of Germany and Austria Hungary, while the Entante powers
were Great Britain, France and Russia that had many formal and secret agreements. In 1915,
Germany declared war on Great Britain at sea and attacked all ships, including merchant ships. By
drafting these first five points, Wilson was hoping to prevent any future conflict at the same scale
as the Great War, by eliminating the actual causes of war. By bringing every nation to the same
level and introducing them to the free trade and free sea navigation Wilson hoped to engage the
nations into an economically beneficial alliance. The more nations joined the League of Nations the
more benefits would they have. This diplomatic solution is revolutionary because it did not only
refer to the couple of countries it referred to the global stage.

The Theories Presented By Tolstoy And Bell
To categorize art by such vague criteria as expression and form would be difficult if it were not
for the several prevailing theories presented by Tolstoy and Bell. According to Tolstoy s theory of
expression, something is art only if it successfully does the following. First, it must have been
created with the intention of being art and revealed to an audience through a publicly accessible
medium, even if the audience is a single individual. These mediums must be physical things such
as shapes, actions, or words in order to be available to its viewers. Second, the medium of art must
be an individualized work that has not been replicated or mass produced. Third, he believes that the
art must convey the feeling or emotionthat the artist experienced while producing the art. This
emotion must also be evoked within the audience. Lastly, the work must require self mediation or
clarification in order to be interpreted by said audience as art. As a result, a work is not required to
be about something in order to be art.
On the other hand, Bell offered the theory of formalism in order to determine if a work was art or
not. According to Bell, a work is art if it is an artifact that possesses significant form without
referencing what it represents. In this context, the significant form is the artistic value of the work
that the author intended for the audience to recognize. Additionally, the work does not have to be
created solely with the purpose of possessing significant form.

These proceeds collected in the escrow accounts could be released only for the transaction of

There were number of contraventions in this case. The first issue was regarding paying the 10%
of proceeds as the carriage cost pertaining to the wheat contracts to Alia. This was later paid to the
government. Alia was an intermediary company aiding in the completion of the overall dealings
related to the case under analysis. Iraq was able to get the hard currency from this. Provisions were

accumulate hard currency. In other words, the money from escrow account of UN was being used
for purposes which were other than making payment for the commodities not permitted (Austin and
Reynolds, 2012).
The second breach by AWB is the business contract they had with Tigris (another company). The
contract was focused on recovering significant debt estimated to be of approximately $8 million, for
transporting wheat to Iraq. To achieve this objective, AWB inflated the price of wheat under the
OFFP contracts which eventually resulted in the payment from the

Mapp V. Ohio Case Study
Mapp V. Ohio (1961)In May of 1957, in a Cleveland, Ohio suburb, a woman named Dollree
Mapp found herself at the center of an unprecedented legal battle over civil liberties. Mapp, who
was no stranger to the Cleveland Police Department, ran a boarding house and was involved
with illegal gambling. Working off an anonyms tip, the Cleveland police showed up at Mapp s
house to look for a suspect in a local bombing case. They believed, along with the suspect, they
would find illegal gambling equipment. Upon their arrival, Mapp refused to let the officers into
her home because they did not possess a search warrant. However, after several hours, the officers

At the urging of her attorney, Mapp appealed her conviction on the grounds that her First
Amendment right had been violated. Her argument was that she was well within her rights to have
been in the possession of the explicit material found during the search of her home. Interestingly
enough, when her case went before the Supreme Court it was not the First Amendment that was
addressed, but the Fourth Amendment. The argument supporting Mapp highlighted the fact that a
search warrant was never produced at her original trial, so evidence against her should not have
been used. Due to the fact that the evidence was seized illegally by the police without a warrant, the
police violated her Fourth Amendment right. The Constitutional issue surrounding the case of
Mapp v. Ohio involves the Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) Search and Seizure. Amendment
IV was passed by Congress on September 25, 1789 and ratified on December 15, 1791. According
to the National Constitution Center, Amendment IV people have the right to be secure in their

and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

format, as programmes like this were something which few of them had ever made. One example
currently being recorded is an extremely popular male beauty competition.
10. We syndicated this show to several channels already in mainland China and for instance in
Chongqing, the channel that we syndicated it to there was Chongqing TV No. 2 and on that
channel, in the week, in that time slot, it has gone to become the number one general entertainment
channel in all of Chongqing.
11. As television stations rely on advertising revenue, the advertising industry wants to see ratings.
Since Xing Kong Weishi entered the China market, it s been bringing in spectators and advertising,
leaving domestic stations to follow as best they can. The days of no competition when everyone
ate from the same big pot are well and truly over and will not return.
12. In the past the mainland, media was directly under government control. This was an effective
way to get policies across to the people. But the effectiveness of government run media in a free
market situation is low. To handle the impact of entry to the WTO as well as Jiang Zemin s
directive, the media need to stand on their own two feet.
13. Talking to the People s Daily, Jiang Zemin said that the media had to properly carry out their

Watergate Complex After The Watergate
On an ordinary morning of June 17, 1972, five burglars were caught in the Watergate complex after
signs of breaking in were found on the doors. No one at that time knew this subtle crime would lead
to the greatest scandal in the US history and the resignation of the current President, Richard Nixon.
Evidences later showed that the Watergate Incident was only a mere part of the ugly crimes the
Nixon Administration had committed to achieve their ultimate goal of reelection, and Nixon had
intentionally attempted a cover up to save his reputation. The Watergate incident had inflicted a
deep suspicion inside the US citizens toward the government, especially the President, because
during his terms, Nixon had obstructed justice and refused to... Show more content on

Afraiding the report would damage Nixon s credibility, because it revealed that the government
was lying to its people about the US troop populations in Vietnam, the Plumbers broke into the
office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg with the attempt of finding embarrassing documents
that would discredit Daniel. They failed, however, and Daniel was exonerated from all of the
charges after the break in was uncovered. The Watergate Burglary was also a mission given to the
Plumbers to monitor the democratic party. However, in the morning of June 17, 1972, the
Plumbers were caught inside the Watergate complex, and their address books showed that they are
connected to the White House. There is no direct evidences that Nixon had ordered the Watergate
burglary, but what he had done subsequently was just as despicable. Nixon had directed a criminal
cover up of the Watergate incident to destroy evidences, interfere investigations, and annihilate
scandals that would lead the Watergate Incident to himself, because it was CRP, his organization,
that had funded the burglars the Post reported in August 1972 that a $25,000 check designated for
CRP actually went to pay for the Watergate burglary (the Post). Two months after the burglary,
Nixon declared that his counsel, John Dean, had conducted a complete investigation of all leads
and subsequently concluded that no one in the White House staff

Government And Societal Ideas From The 19th Century
Government and Societal Ideas from the 19th Century During the 19th Century, three prominent
thinkers John Stuart Mill, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Karl Marx had their own ideas of an ideal
society. These individuals had their own unique view of the perfect society. However, they all
have something in common with their visions: all of these excerpts discussed an oppressive
entity. In all of the three ideal societies concocted by these men, tyrannical governments or
oppressive societies are obstacles to their visions. In the excerpt from John Stuart Mill s On
Liberty, he discusses the imperfection of democracy. He states that democracy was only a perfect
system when it was still a dream and not a reality. His reason for this imperfection is... Show more

Essentially, it is citizen s duty to protect their rights from the oppressive shadow of the opinions
of the majority. In the second excerpt, taken from his essay, The Duties of Man, Mazzini
discusses the means for an ideal society. He says that for an ideal society to exist the people
living in said society must work towards unification and nationalism. Mazzini states that man s
primary duty should be towards humanity and his their country. He said that this is what God
originally intended as a part of his Divine Design . He also says that this design God intended
was corrupted by greedy and oppressive Monarchies. Evidence of this can be taken from The
Duties of Man, They have disfigured it by their conquests, their greed, and their jealousy even of
the righteous power of others; disfigured it so far that, if we except England and France, there is
not perhaps a single country whose present boundaries correspond to that design (Mazzini 1860).
He later says the countries of unified people, defined by the vote of free men, will rise from the
ruins of traditional monarchies and that there will be harmony between this nations. For Mazzini s
ideal society to exist people must make it their duty to follow God s Divine Plan. He expresses
this in The Duties of Man, Our Country is our common workshop, whence the products of our
activity are sent forth for the benefit of the whole world; wherein the

Ethical decisions and issues in neonatal nursing deem conflicting amongst families and the

Analysis Of Game Of Thrones
Game of Thrones is a show that I have recently started watching. I usually don t watch television
shows of this genre, but this one is very entertaining. Game of Thrones is a good fantasy drama
because of the variety of settings, character development, and the suspense within the show.
It is important for a fantasy drama to have a variety of settings or change of scenery every so often
because this adds more to the show and keeps viewers from becoming bored. In Game of Thrones
there are many different settings showed. In this show, there are many characters who believe they
are the one true king or queen. The plot of the show is the conquest of these different characters to
take their place on the Iron Throne as the king or queen, hence the name
Game of Thrones. The many different characters and showing the story of their journeys is what
allows for the many different settings. The show shows seven different kingdoms, there is the
North Kingdom, Kingdom of Mountain and Vale, Kingdom of Isles and Rivers, Kingdom of the
Rock, Kingdom of the Stormlands, Kingdom of the Reach and the Principality of Dorne. Scenes
take place in each one of the settings listed and many other settings in places between the kingdoms.
Another important quality of a good fantasy drama is showing character development.
Character development allows viewers to watch the characters grow and shows more than one side
of the character, this gives the characters more depth and makes them more interesting and

How Has Propaganda Changed Over Time
Propaganda has many different definitions and interpretations, depending on who you ask. When
the word was first created it referred to the reproduction of plants and animals (Fellows pg 182),
gradually became used as a religious term, from the 1600s until it was rebranded to be used for
military purposes during World War II. The current definition of propaganda
has changed quite a bit
since the origin of the word. Michael Parenti for example said that propaganda is the mobilization
to influence the mass audience. Another quote we heard in class defining propaganda was the
deliberate attempt of a few to influence the many to manipulate the facts (K.Khory). While there is
no conscience definition of propaganda especially because the definition has changed over time, it
is generally agreed on that it includes some from of influence to the public.
Propaganda often receives a bad name. People believe that influencing people as negative,
however propaganda as a mere tool is no more moral or immoral than a pump handle (Laswell pg
21). It is not until the writers of the propaganda intentionally become vicious and spread lies that it

Prospective payment system is a method of reimbursement in which payment rates for healthcare

This is obviously a sign of bad mental health, but there were several incidents that led up to this
state of mind. An often occurrence were the fights between her and her husband. She didn t

livers inside pigoons. The goal of the pigoon project was to grow foolproof human tissue organs
in a transgenic knockout pig (Atwood 22). This was an issue that may have caused Jimmy s

affected her everyday life. She was so exhausted with the fights with her husband and the

The elimination and cut backs of public mental hospitals resulted in the building of Community
Mental Health Centers. The serious mentally ill who were supposed to benefit by these
developments were replaced by people who were well off and thought they were sick. Making the
problem worse the serious mentally ill were unable to re enter hospitals because of tighter
admissions standards ( Contemporary World Issues 1990). Without hospitalization or the ability to
support themselves they were forced to the streets.
Declining wages have put housing out of reach for many workers. In every state, more than
minimum wage is needed to afford a one or two bedroom apartment. A minimum wage worker
would have to work 87 hours a week to afford a two bedroom apartment (U.S Conference of
Mayors 1998). Thus insufficient income leaves many people homeless.
For families and individuals struggling to pay rent, a serious illness or disability can push them
over the edge into homelessness. This might begin with a lost job, reduction of savings to pay for
care, and eventual eviction.
I feel in writing this essay we should all help the homeless to get back on their feet. They are in
desperate need of a helping hand, to get through this. Other reasons for helping the homeless are,
they are human beings as well as you and I, it reduces our taxes if there were no homeless, and
some crime will be eliminated on the streets.

Price is the value which is paid by the buyer to the manufacturer against the products and services.
It is the value of the product mentioned by the seller to the consumers Pricing decisions are one of
the crucial factors that shapes by cost factors, profit margin, and possibility of sales at different
price levels and the competitor s pricing policy as well as with the number of existing competitors in

In present times, loss leaders pricing technique has become the popular method of sales promotion
of product. The purpose of making a product loss leader is to encourage customers to make further
purchases of profitable goods while they are in the shop. Departmental Store or Retailers used to
adopt this strategy for increasing the foot fall in store.
Pricing is a key competitive weapon and a significant part of the marketing mix. If a business
reduced its prices than competitors, new customers may be attracted and existing customers may
become more loyal. Hence using a loss leader pricing can help to divert loyal customers. Using a
loss leader is a short term pricing tactic for any product.
One risk of using a loss leader pricing is that customers can take the opportunity to bulk buy . If the
price discount is sufficiently enough, then it makes sense for customers to buy as much as they can
(assuming the product is not perishable) which leads loss for the manufacturer.

Functional Foods And Its Effect On The Risks Of Chronic...
Functional foods are those foods that are beneficial to health and are able to reduce the risks of
chronic diseases. The interest in functional foods has increased in the recent years as people look
for safer way to improve general health and living. In India, despite of low level of public
awareness compared to western markets, functional foods and ingredients are finding huge growth
as consumers switch on to the promise of healthier foods, beverages and supplements.
On the contrary, due to urbanization the increased demand for ready to eat products at reasonable
costs also increased, particularly the bakery products. But in recent times functional foods are
rapidly increasing in popularity in sectors such as dairy products or confectionery, in bakery it is
still relatively underdeveloped. Bread is one such important staple food and the most widely
consumed bakery product all over the world. In bread making, the use of white flour (refined) has
been increased with an aim of improving the aesthetic value of white bread, which in turn led to
drastic reduction in the nutritional density and fiber content when compared to bread made from
whole grain cereals. In recent years, cereals and its ingredients such as beta glucan, arabinoxylan,
resistant starch, oligosaccharides etc are accepted as functional foods and nutraceuticals. Cereals, in
particular oat and barley, offer another alternative for the production of functional foods. By

As stated previously, Hippolyta and Theseus have an interesting relationship because of the fact
that they only appear at the opening and closing of the show. When they appear in Act 4 Scene
1, the reader can tell Hippolyta has become stronger and more independent since the first scene.
In her first line in the scene she states, I was with Hercules and Cadmus once, when in a wood of
Crete they bayed the bear with hounds of Sparta. This proves her power and strength straight
away stating how she was once fighting with the heroes Hercules and Cadmus. I never heard so
musical a discord, such sweet thunder , she goes on to say (IV.i.97 103). Theseus and Hippolyta
stumble upon the four lovers in the forest, and tells the two couples that they shall join in later on
Hippolyta and his wedding. There is no clear conflict so far between Hippolyta and Theseus.
This brings us to their interaction in Act 5. Hippolyta and Theseus begin the scene, where
Hippolyta states that the lovers are speaking of strange things. This leads Theseus to go on and on
about how people in love are crazy. He states that, Lovers and madmen have such seething brains,
such shaping fantasies, that apprehend more than cool reason ever comprehends. The lunatic, the
lover, and the poet are of imagination all compact basically comparing lovers to madman and how
they hallucinate and are ruled by their

Canonical Books
Canonical books are books that are relating to or ordered by canon law. It has to appear in
biblical canon. For a book to be considered canonical it has to meet seven principles. In no
specific order the principles are the book must be dynamic, written by an authoritative writer and
be authoritative itself. It has to be authentic, prophetic, and received. Lastly, people who knew of
the events have to have been able to falsify them. The reason a canon of scripture became
necessary, was because the prophets and apostles were no longer here. They were the living voice
of this information. Canon was a way to preserve biblical writings from any corruption. A canon of
the biblebridges the old and new Testaments. This was gradual. The formation of the New
Testament canon is how the sacredness was preserved.
Knowing what canon is and the history of it, helps a person comprehend the importance scripture.
God s authoritative revelation has books rooted in His inspiration. To know the particulars the

The number of books included differ based on whether the person is Christian, Mormon, or
Muslim. Matt Slick describes it in detail by stating In Judaism, the canon consists of the books of
the Old Testamentonly. In Protestant Christianity, the canon is the body of scripture comprised in
the Bible consisting of the 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. In
Roman Catholicism, additional books were added in 1546. These books are known as the
apocryphal books: Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, The Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus
(Sirach), and Baruch. In Mormonism, four additional books have been added to the Canon: The
book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

Aziz Ansrai s Modern Romance
Monogamy isn t realistic (Trainwreck) is a recurring theme in Aziz Ansrai s Modern Romance.
The argument being that with the ever growing dependence on technology in modern
relationships/ dating it is ridiculous to expect you and/or your partner to remain monogamous.
Polygamy is not always consensual in the case of affairs, which are made easier by technology.
Ansari argues that The privacy of the internet and phone world has also led to a rise of settings
where people can be adulterous without any judgment. (191). One of the main examples used in
the book is the website Ashley Madison; a dating website specifically designed for people looking
to have an affair, their slogan being Life is short. Have an affair (Ashley Madison).

Supply and Demand Paper
Assignment: Supply and Demand Paper
Due Sunday Day 7 XECO/212
Instructor Robert Peart
Student Emily Hopple
I have had the personal experience of purchasing my college education. Picking a college was very
challenging and I had huge amounts of pros and cons to weigh throughout my decision process. I
knew that going to college and receiving a college education would be a wise investment and would
better benefit me in the future financially. The supply and demand for a college education has
changed over the years, thirty years ago a person might not have gone to college or paid for a
college education and degree but that person still had a good chance of finding a steady job and
becoming successful. An example of this would be my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The financial status that a person carries can often determine the supply and demand of
receiving a college education due to the fact that if a person obtains a college education they
would be able to make and earn more money. Making more money is a plus but another factor to
think about is school loans which will put a person in debt until the loans are paid off, so it is
important for people to weigh their pros and cons when it comes to going to college. Now with
the growing technology and job demands receiving a college education has increased in
demand. People want to be successful in their careers and want a bigger income so a college
education is the wisest way to become successful. The supply for college is always elevated and
increases each year because more and more people realize that receiving a college education is
valuable and beneficial. Two substitutes for a college education would be self educating which
is where a person can get books, do research, and learn along with teaching themselves on a
particular topic, business field, certain materials and information. Self educating is what some
people might prefer if they do not have the drive or determination, along with finances to be able
to go to college and earn a college degree. Another substitute would be if a person would ask their
job to sponsor or pay for classes, training, or even college courses to be able to have the
opportunity to move up in the business and become more successful.

intensively competitive economy and their organisational culture such as workplace efficiency and
diligence thus resulting in a huge number of workers perpetually working overtime, causing an
imbalance in their work life. In this case, workers are incapable to escape the hegemonies that are
powerful, namely the management staff in the organisation.
Modernists promote the rationale of managerial control because they view the members different
interests as a problem that interferes with organisational goals and strategies. (Bolman Deal, 2008)
states that control is the process of taking the necessary corrective or preventive actions to ensure
that organisation objectives and missions are met as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Therefore, modernist theorists sought mechanisms such as cybernetic and bureaucratic control for
their employees in order for organisation interests to be met and self interest to be minimized
(Hatch Cunliffe, 2006).
When organisations apply cybernetic theory, it explains how their executives align individual goals
and organisational control using performance evaluation, resource allocation and through reward
and feedbacks mechanisms (Hatch Cunliffe, 2006). They further stated that positive deviations
were rewarded while the negative were used

Fried Green Tomatoes Quotes
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation,
conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. This famous
line, by Abraham Lincoln, highlights the fact that everyone is of equal value. On the other end of
the spectrum is the idea of discrimination. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop CafГ© was
written by Fannie Flagg, a well known American author. This novel takes place in the Deep South
and switches back and forth between the 1980s and the early 20th century, when discrimination
was rampant. Discrimination has two main definitions. Firstly it is defined as the ability to
recognize the difference between things that are of good quality and those that are not (Webster).
A second definition is the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from
other people or groups of people (Webster). The latter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ageism is defined as prejudice or discrimination against a particular age group and especially the
elderly (Webster). On page 4, Virginia says, Mrs. Otis and I are from Whistle Stop ... her son
and daughter in law had a fit for her to come and live at the nursing home, and they asked me to
come with her. I told them I d stay with her for a while she doesn t know it yet, but I m going
back home just as soon as she gets settled in good. The family is actually dumping her and they
do that because she is getting old. They do not want to take care of either Mrs. Otis or Mrs.
Threadgood. Another example of ageism can be found on page 288. One day Evelyn Couch drives
to go shopping, she has to wait a while for a parking space to open up. When a car finally leaves, a
group of young girls take the empty spot. Evelyn said, Excuse me, but I was waiting for that
space and you pulled right in front of me. The girl looked at her with a smirk and said, Let s face

Distraction Of Technology Essay
The Distraction of Technology
While Technology gives us many opportunities, it is a major distraction because it causes
distractions in the classroom, dangers while driving, and weakens in person relationships. So with
all the opportunities technology gives us, why are we so distracted? How does it affect students
learning ability? What type of threat to our safety does it pose while driving? How does it affect
our in person relationships? Technology distracts students from their education because it causes
them to be more plugged into their devices than their education lower their grades. A paper
published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that students barred from using
digital devices or laptops in lectures did better on their exams than those using computers and
access the internet. The study also found that forty seven percent of heavy technology users were
found to have poor grades. So is it just college students that technology is affecting? Data from
iKeepSafe, shows that twenty eight percent of teens say their digital engagement interferes with
schoolwork. So from the data found in many studies on students, we have a right to be concerned

Compare And Contrast Rome And The United States
Colby Wall
Hour 2
Rome vs United States
Rome vs the United States had some major differences and some similarities. Their government
has some differences and similarities including: The Roman government was a strange mix of
republic and democracy and another interesting fact was that they got most of their ideas from the
Ancient Greeks. Julius Caesar was elected to be the ruler of the Roman government in 60 B.C.
with the help of Crassus, and then later around 44 B.C. Julius Caesar changed to Rome republic to
an empire. The United States government is often reviewed as a democracy and republic . And even
though it is viewed as a democracy or a republic , the American form of government is called a
democracy by leading the American statesman and legal commentators. George Washington was

Slavery in the Ancient Rome played a major role in the society and in the economy. Besides
manual labor, slaves performed many domestic services, and might be employed at highly
skilled jobs and professions. Slavery in the United States was a legal institution in the United
States in the 18th and the 19th centuries and it was still legal until the Civil War which began in
April 12, 1861 and it ended May 9, 1865. The Slavery in the ancient Rome was way different
than the United States because in the ancient Rome let some slaves own some land if it was
alright with their masters. Skilled or educated slaves were able to earn their own money and
hope that they can save up enough that they could buy their freedom. And such slaves were set
free by their masters. A male slave who had belonged to a Roman citizen was allowed to vote.
The United States slavery was mostly African Americans or just Africans. In all if I was a slave I
would want to be a slave in the ancient Rome basically because the United States didn t have as
much freedom as ancient Rome

Living Will Danielle Ofri Summary
In Danielle Ofri s essay Living Will (2005), she talks about her experience as a Doctor. She deals
with Wilbur Reston, a patient who lost his will to live, he prefers death and he wants to kill
himself. Her patient does not have relatives that can help him when he gets sick, his wife does
not show interest at all for him. Sadly, Ofri notices that her patient s life is miserable. Actually,
she tries to show us in her essay that people who want to kill them self, they should not do that
because they do not have the right to kill them self. In fact, many people against Ofri s point of

Although we know that many people disagree with the author, but I believe that no one has the
right to kill himself. First of all, the reason of why I agree is that , it is opposed to human
dignity and it rejects the importance and value of human life. Not only that but also it
contradicts many religions. Both Islam and Christianity agree that you should not kill yourself
and only God taked your life. Actually, suicide is forbidden that considered as one of the
greatest sins after polytheism, according to Islam. As God says O you who have believed ... and
do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful ... (Quran 17:70).

  • 2. Crash Of The Century Anthropology A primary source that I found that relates with our course theme of horror and my concentration of the unknown and unexpected is a documentary called Crash of the Century. This documentary was created by Discovery World based on a true story. This documentary covers the unknown line of events that led up to the fatal collision of two fully loaded Boeing 747s. On March 27, 1977, a KLM 747 and a Pan Am 747 were on route to the Gran Canaria International Airport when unexpected calls were made by Canary Island Separatists that there were bombs at the airport. Authorities closed down Gran Canaria International Airport and had to divert all flights to a small airport in Los Rodeos. In total 5 large aircrafts were diverted to this small regional airport that couldn t easily accommodate the aircrafts. Eventually after almost 4 hours from the original diversion, the KLM was cleared to go the full length of a runway and do a 180В° turn. The Pan Am flight was instructed to follow the KLM but take the 3rd exit off the runway to their left. The Pan Am passed the 3rd exit off the runway and the KLM began taking off without proper clearance. Nobody that day could ve predicted that the effects of an airport closing due to a bomb threat would cause the horrific disaster of two Boeing 747s to collide and create the worst disaster in aviation history.... • 5. The Extinction, Endangerment, And Captivity Of Endangered... Should we worry about the extinction, endangerment, and captivity of endangered species? That is the pressing question that seems to bug all environmentalists and scientists are stressing over, how long will it take for all of your animals to die out? And is it something we can stop or at least contain meanwhile we are trying to find the long term solution for. Can we prevent this from happening all together? Or is it far too late to save our species that are dying out? We should worry about the extinction, endangerment and captivity of endangered species because every animal is vital to their own ecosystems and keeps everything balanced. Without balance, surely all of the ecosystems will collapse in on itself. What is a species? What exactly is an endangered species? What is an extinct species? How have these species come to the point of becoming endangered or extinct? What can we do to save the endangered species that are near extinction? Can we actually do anything to save these species, or is it a lost cause? Why should I care? Most people do not know the answer to many of those questions. As much attention as this subject gets from environmental groups and agencies, it gets just as much ignoring by the general public. Many people feel compelled to help or contribute; yet few seldom do carry out their intentions. This is a very serious subject that needs to receive immediate and full attention from the general public. Only they can truly make a difference. The concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Themes In The Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank redemption is about much more than just a young banker spending many years of his life in prison. It shows us the struggles inmates go through to adapt to an environment as harsh as prisons and how creating friendships with others helps the men get through the rough patches. The film demonstrates that prisonis a world of its own, with its own rules and how many men struggle to fit back into society when they are released. Shawshank Redemption uses many good techniques to capture moments brilliantly. A few examples of these are: when Andy first arrives at Shawshank an establishing shot is used to show the prison. This allows the viewer to witness how bare and dull the prison is and how the prisoners are not allowed to express themselves in any way. Another example is the director uses parallels. Both Red and Brooks have the same experiences when they leave Shawshank, showing the plight the characters face in the real world due to institutionalisation. This makes us fear that Red s path will end the same as Brooks . However, the director shows us that we have a choice and that Red and Andy s friendship has come such a long way that he carries on going because he gave Andy his word he would go to the oak tree. The last example is the type of lighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim of Shawshank is to isolate and reform criminals and teach them right from wrong. Instead, the prison is full of corruption, greed, bribery, and money laundering. Everyone uses the system to their own advantage, from Red, who smuggles goods into the prison, all the way to the warden, who profits from forced prison labour. The warden makes Andy launder money for him and this stops him from helping prove Andy innocent so that Andy can never reveal his secret. The fact that Shawshank is as corrupt and tainted as the outside world further justifies Andy s escape from a hypocritical system that does not care for the prisoners lives or ... Lieutenant Peters and Sergeant Pace felt that the General shouldn t have to pull a shift, but BG General Clayton wouldn t have any of it. They were in the field and he would pull his fair share. The night passed uneventful and the weather had cleared, the three men left the cave before sunrise and headed for the high ground to get a bearing on their location. I choose Henrietta Lacks study case, the HeLa case has raised questions about the legality of using genetic materials without permission. Neither Mrs. Lacks nor her family granted permission to harvest her cells, which were then cloned and sold since the 1950s. Recently, scientists at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory published the genome of a line of HeLacells, making it publicly available for downloading. Another study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health at the University of Washington, was about to be published in Nature. The Lacks family was made aware of neither project. Eric S. Lander, the founding director of the Broad Institute, a science research center at Harvard and M.I.T., said resolving these issues is crucial to taking advantage of the knowledge hidden in our genomes. If we are going to solve cancer, it s going to take a movement of tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of patients willing to contribute information from their cancer genomes towards a common good, Dr. Lander said. We are going to need to have ways to have patients feel comfortable doing that. We can t do it without a foundation of respect and trust. • 12. Shakespeare s Use of the Idea of Disguise in As You Like It Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much confusion and comedy in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th Century that there became an increased sense of self consciousness and identity. This led to people creating an image for themselves. If one can create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of that person. This links in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not mean that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is revealing her true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other aspects of the character s personality but it is still shown through their everyday person. Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included Rosalind s enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of a woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it , the epilogue is performed by Rosalind. The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the actor was talking but Rosalind is still in character. She says herself; It is ... Men are projected to be extremely masculine and not allow fear, anxiety, or vulnerability to show through. Women, on the other hand, are encouraged to be strong, pursue their careers, and experiment with their sexuality. Although women are gaining power, they are still left with a feeling of confusion about themselves. • 15. The Theories Presented By Tolstoy And Bell To categorize art by such vague criteria as expression and form would be difficult if it were not for the several prevailing theories presented by Tolstoy and Bell. According to Tolstoy s theory of expression, something is art only if it successfully does the following. First, it must have been created with the intention of being art and revealed to an audience through a publicly accessible medium, even if the audience is a single individual. These mediums must be physical things such as shapes, actions, or words in order to be available to its viewers. Second, the medium of art must be an individualized work that has not been replicated or mass produced. Third, he believes that the art must convey the feeling or emotionthat the artist experienced while producing the art. This emotion must also be evoked within the audience. Lastly, the work must require self mediation or clarification in order to be interpreted by said audience as art. As a result, a work is not required to be about something in order to be art. On the other hand, Bell offered the theory of formalism in order to determine if a work was art or not. According to Bell, a work is art if it is an artifact that possesses significant form without referencing what it represents. In this context, the significant form is the artistic value of the work that the author intended for the audience to recognize. Additionally, the work does not have to be created solely with the purpose of possessing significant form. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The argument supporting Mapp highlighted the fact that a search warrant was never produced at her original trial, so evidence against her should not have been used. Mazzini states that man s primary duty should be towards humanity and his their country. He said that this is what God originally intended as a part of his Divine Design . Evidence of this can be taken from The Duties of Man, They have disfigured it by their conquests, their greed, and their jealousy even of the righteous power of others; disfigured it so far that, if we except England and France, there is not perhaps a single country whose present boundaries correspond to that design (Mazzini 1860). Game of Thrones is a good fantasy drama because of the variety of settings, character development, and the suspense within the show. It is important for a fantasy drama to have a variety of settings or change of scenery every so often because this adds more to the show and keeps viewers from becoming bored. In Game of Thrones there are many different settings showed. In this show, there are many characters who believe they are the one true king or queen. The plot of the show is the conquest of these different characters to take their place on the Iron Throne as the king or queen, hence the name Game of Thrones. The many different characters and showing the story of their journeys is what allows for the many different settings. The show shows seven different kingdoms, there is the North Kingdom, Kingdom of Mountain and Vale, Kingdom of Isles and Rivers, Kingdom of the Rock, Kingdom of the Stormlands, Kingdom of the Reach and the Principality of Dorne. Scenes take place in each one of the settings listed and many other settings in places between the kingdoms. Another important quality of a good fantasy drama is showing character development. Without hospitalization or the ability to support themselves they were forced to the streets. Declining wages have put housing out of reach for many workers. For families and individuals struggling to pay rent, a serious illness or disability can push them over the edge into homelessness. This might begin with a lost job, reduction of savings to pay for care, and eventual eviction. I feel in writing this essay we should all help the homeless to get back on their feet.
