Design and implementation of 4-bit binary weighted current steering DAC
A compact current-mode Digital-to-Analog converter (DAC) suitable for biomedical application is repesented in this paper. The designed DAC is binary weighted in 180nm CMOS technology with 1.8V supply voltage. In this implementation, authors have focused on calculaton of Non linearity error say INL and DNL for 4-bit DAC having various type of switches: NMOS, PMOS and transmission gate. The implemented DAC uses lower area and power compared to unary architecture due to absence of digital decoders. The desired value of Integrated non linearity (INL) and Differential non linearity (DNL) for DAC for are within a range of +0.5LSB. Result obtained in this works for INL and DNL for the case DAC using transmission gate is +0.34LSB and +0.38 LSB respectively with 22mW power dissipation.
Processing-in-Memory
Many modern and emerging applications must process huge amounts of data.
Unfortunately, prevalent computer architectures are based on the von Neumann design, where processing units and memory units are located apart, which make them highly inefficient for large-scale data intensive tasks.
The performance and energy costs when executing this type of applications are dominated by the movement of data between memory units and processing units. This is known as the von Neumann bottleneck.
Processing-in-Memory (PIM) is a computing paradigm that avoids most of this data movement by putting together, in the same place or near, computation and data.
This talk will give an overview of PIM and will discuss some of the key enabling technologies.
Next I will present some of our research results in that area, specifically in the application areas of genome sequence alignment and time series analysis.

Static and dynamic memories
The current technological revolution around the world has made the world faster with the
advancements in sophisticated computer devices. Computer, as a digital machine, enables people
to work faster than ever before. The memory of this device is a great feature of this digital tool.
RAM, Random Access Memory is the primary tool of data storage that is inserted in the
integrated circuit while data can be accessed in any sequence or randomly. Thus it is termed
RAM or Random Access Memory.
The journey of dynamic and static RAM was initiated in 1960s which can readily
developed in 1970s. Now a days the technology is much more user friendly. RAM is further
divided into three types:
• Dynamic RAM (DRAM)
• Static RAM (SRAM)
• Non-volatile RAM (NVRAM = RAM + Battery)
but we will discuss only first two i.e. (DRAM and SRAM).
Dynamic RAM is the most common memory used now a days. Inside of the RAM chip
there is a memory cell that holds one bit of information and is divided into further two parts: a
transistor and a capacitor. The capacitor holds the bit of information as a state of 0 or 1 and the
transistor acts as a switch that lets the control circuitry on the memory chip that reads the
capacitor or change its state. The capacitor is like a small bucket that stores the electrons in it. To
store 1, bucket gets filled with electrons and to store 0 buckets gets empty. The problem with the
capacitor’s bucket is that it has a leak and in a matter of few seconds a full buckets becomes
empty. Therefore they need to be recharged continuously in order to work properly and because
of this reason it has been given the name Dynamic RAM. This refreshing phenomenon is time
consuming as well.
In static RAM a flip-flop holds each bit of a memory. A flip-flop memory cell takes 4 to
6 transistors along with the wiring. Due to this reason they draws current all the time and gets
warm easily, therefore, they cannot be packed together tightly. They do not require any
refreshing method though, therefore, they are very fast memory chips.
End of Moore's Law?
Moore’s Law is slowing, but more importantly the world is changing from PCs to smart phones and cloud computing where improvements continue to occur. Improvements are still occurring in other types of ICs such as wireless, GPUs, and 3D camera chips because they lag microprocessors and parallel processing is easier on them than on microprocessors. Data centers are also experiencing rapid improvements as changes in architecture are made, particularly for analyzing unstructured data, i.e., Big Data. These slides discuss the implications for new services in areas such as smart phones, software, and Big Data. The last one-third of the slides summarize alternatives to silicon and von Neumann.
Core i3,i5,i7 and i9 processors

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
