The iOS is the operating system that runs the iPhone,
iPod touch, and iPad. It's the core software that comes
loaded on all devices to allow them to run and support
other apps. The iOS is to the iPhone what Windows is to
PCs or Mac OS X is to Macs.

What is iOS?

considered the foundation of the iPhone

4. As of Oct 2011 Apple contains over
500,000 iOS applications
 IOS comprises the operating system and technologies that you use to run
applications natively on devices , such as ipad, iphone and ipod touch.
 IOS even ensures that performance and battery space life don’t suffer even if you
are multitasking.
 It had a 14.9% shared of the smartphone mobile OS units shipped in the third
quarter of 2012, behind only google’s android.

About the graphics of iOS
Security on iOS
1. Set a passcode lock.
2. Configure it to delete all our data after too many
WRONG passcode.
3. In case of lost or stolen FIND MY iDEVICE allows
us to
i. Locate it on a map .
ii. Remotely delete all your data.
iii. Remotely lock our device.
 Apple describes the set of frameworks and
technologies that are currently implemented
within the iOS operating system as a series of
layers. Each of these layers is made up of a
variety of different frameworks that can be
used and incorporated into your applications:
IOS Technology Layers
1. In iOS, there are four abstraction layers.
2. The Core O.S Layer.
3. The Core Services Layer.
4. The Media Layer.
5. The Cocoa Touch Layer.
Core O.S Layer
The Core O.S Layer manages the Virtual
memory , threads, the file system, the
network, inter process communication
with the frameworks in the core os layer
Core Services Layer
 Core Services Layer contains the fundamental
interfaces for iOS , for accessing files , network
sockets and so on.
 These interfaces are mostly C – based.
Media Layer
 Media Layer allow you to create the best
multimedia experience available on the mobile
device with frameworks.
 It uses both C and Objective - C
Cocoa Touch Layer
 Implementation of a graphical event-driven
application in iOS with the frameworks is
performed in the cocoa touch layer
 This layer uses objective - C
iCloud is a cloud storage and cloud computing
service from Apple Inc. launched on October 12, 2011.
As of July 2013, the service has 320 million users.
The service allows users to store data such as music,
and ios applications on remote computer servers for
download to multiple devices such as iOS-based
devices running iOS 5 or later versions.



  • 19.  Apple describes the set of frameworks and technologies that are currently implemented within the iOS operating system as a series of layers. Each of these layers is made up of a variety of different frameworks that can be used and incorporated into your applications:

  • 21. Core O.S Layer The Core O.S Layer manages the Virtual memory , threads, the file system, the network, inter process communication with the frameworks in the core os layer
  • 22. Core Services Layer  Core Services Layer contains the fundamental interfaces for iOS , for accessing files , network sockets and so on.  These interfaces are mostly C – based.
  • 23. Media Layer  Media Layer allow you to create the best multimedia experience available on the mobile device with frameworks.  It uses both C and Objective - C
  • 24. Cocoa Touch Layer  Implementation of a graphical event-driven application in iOS with the frameworks is performed in the cocoa touch layer  This layer uses objective - C
  • 25. iCloud is a cloud storage and cloud computing service from Apple Inc. launched on October 12, 2011. As of July 2013, the service has 320 million users. The service allows users to store data such as music, and ios applications on remote computer servers for download to multiple devices such as iOS-based devices running iOS 5 or later versions.
