Athens Locally Grown Presentation for Georgia Organics 2010 ConferenceEric Wagoner
In February 2010, the annual Georgia Organics conference came to Athens, Georgia, home to the innovative virtual farmers market Athens Locally Grown. One of the first of its type in the country, ALG was founded in 2002 and has grown to become one of the largest farmers markets in the Southeast.
Here is its story.

This document describes a fundraising model called "Shop to Earth" that allows supporters to raise money for charities by shopping online. Supporters shop through a custom portal linked to retailers' websites, and the retailers provide rebates of up to 40% of purchases to the charity. This model requires no inventory or volunteers and provides donations all year through supporters' regular shopping. It is presented as more effective than traditional fundraising methods like galas or sales that require more time and effort from volunteers.

Tucan, Inc. proposes starting a business making candle holders out of recycled soda cans. The manufacturing process involves cutting the top off cans and folding the sides to form petals. Startup costs are $10 for scissors. They plan to sell the candle holders for $5 each at schools, events, and stores, with a cost of goods sold of $2 per unit. Sales projections start at 18 units in September and increase to 70 units by August.

This document provides an overview of major advertising awards shows and their significance. It discusses shows like Cannes, The One Show, D&AD, and Effies, what categories they recognize, and some of their past winners. While winning awards is not necessary, it helps agencies attract more clients and talent. The bar is very high for these shows, but creativity, strong planning and execution matter more than budget, client size or agency location. Understanding award shows helps agencies stay aware of trends globally and better serve international clients. The document concludes by listing upcoming deadlines for several major awards.

The document provides an overview of key considerations for engineering entrepreneurs starting a business, including selecting a corporate structure, financing options, financial management, marketing strategies, developing an exit plan, keys to success, and common pitfalls. It discusses factors like liability, desired size and complexity, tax implications, and profit motives in deciding on a structure. Financing can come from personal funds, banks, SBA loans, private equity, and conservative projections are advised. Financial management requires cash flow monitoring, ratio tracking, and performance metrics. Marketing involves defining your niche and unique value proposition. The talk concludes with passion, thorough planning, risk tolerance, flexibility, and addressing weaknesses as keys to success, while insufficient planning, non-viable models,
The document contains various tips and metrics about increasing online payments and revenue. It suggests tracking key metrics like the percentage of free currency given to users from support, how soon users make repeat purchases, and the ratio of payment methods to complaints. Other tips include prioritizing high-value users, targeting certain age demographics, testing new payment options and currencies, and trying promotions and offers to boost conversions and revenue.
The document provides 13 tips for business owners on providing good customer service. It emphasizes that customer service is defined by customers, not businesses, and involves making the customer experience as easy as possible. Some key tips include empowering front-line employees to solve problems, treating customers and employees well, sincerely apologizing and fixing issues, and being a problem solver rather than creator. The document also provides examples of both good and bad customer service from various companies to illustrate the points.
The last mile is always biggest challenge for retailers and especially grocers. This talk talks to the different distribution models available and if a dark store fulfillment is a solution to scaling grocer home delivery.
This document welcomes attendees to a meeting to hear ideas, thank attendees for their support over the last year, and make an important announcement. It then announces the Toronto HomeStars Awards, which will recognize the top companies in various categories based on customer reviews received in 2008. Winners will be announced on January 19, 2009.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
The presentation aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of AI usage in XML development, providing attendees with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. Whether you’re at the early stages of adopting AI or considering integrating it in advanced XML development, this presentation will cover all levels of expertise.
