Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Let’s prepare the components before
assembling them.
Every component is fragile. We need to be
delicate to avoid damaging them.
Let’s start with Resistors! With some pliers or
just with our fingers, gently bend the legs
(leads) on their base close to the central body
as shown in the figure.

Le montage des résistances est très simple. Il
n’y a pas d’orienta�on à respecter. Le rectangle
indique le corps de la résistance. ‘R1’ indique le
nom (référence).

Resistors Assembly
The assembly of the resistors is very simple.
There is no specific orienta�on to place it. The
rectangle indicates the resistor body place. ‘R1’
indicates the name (designator).
To assemble the resistor, place the leads in the
sockets on each side the rectangle of the
desired designator..

leg (lead) to the front towards the rounded part

Le transistor se monte en suivant les contours

The transistor has 3 leads and we have already
formed the central one during prepara�on.
The transistor is placed following the outline
drawn on the PCB : The flat face of the
transistor goes with the straight line on the
PCB; The rounded face of the transistor goes
with the rounded outline on the PCB.
The central lead is placed on the rounded
outline.

Les diodes électroluminescentes (DEL) ont une
orienta�on spécifique de placement. La
Cathode ou borne ‘-’ est indiquée sur la carte

la borne ‘+’ ou Anode

LED Assembly
The Light Emi�ng Diodes (LED) have a specific
orienta�on for placement. The Cathode or ‘-’
lead is indicated on the PCB by a point and a
line. This corresponds to the flat side of the
LED.
In addi�on, the longer lead of the LED is the ‘+’
or Anode lead.
Looking inside the LED, the bigger metallic part
is the Cathode or ‘-’ lead.

Certains condensateurs dits polarisés ont une
orienta�on spécifique alors que d’autres n’ont
en pas (non-polarisés).
Dans le cas d’un condensateur polarisé, la

nega�ve polariza�on/lead of the capacitor.

Les entretoises plas�ques sont fragiles, surtout

Fasten in the spacers on the top side of the
chassis.
The spacers are made with plas�c and thus are
fragile especially when used with metallic
screws. Fastening should be made with care at
slow speed to avoid damage. They can be
�ghtened firmly but not too much.

For every sensor, let’s take 4 male-female wires.
Let’s install the first wire on the lead « R- » at
the sensor and connect it to the PCB in D20 on
the lead indicated by the dot and the line.
Let’s install then the second wire in « R+ » and
connect it to the other lead of D20 on the PCB.

Insérons un fil dans « E- » et connectons le sur
la carte dans l’emplacement « Sensor1 » sur la
broche « - ».
Avec le dernier fil, plaçons le sur « E+ » et
insérons le dans l’autre broche de « Sensor1 ».

Insérons la toiture de la coque.
La par�e avec des encoches rectangulaires se
place sur la pièce dorsale tandis que la par�e
avant s’insère dans les entretoises M3 de 3cm.
Enfin, à l’aide de deux écrous M3, fixons
fermement la toiture.

Let’s install the top roof.
The side with the rectangular slots engages on
the dorsal piece while the front part goes in the
3cm M3 spacers.
Finally, place the two M3 nuts and screw them
in to secure the top.
