8. HYPOTHESIS
Over reliance and dependence on mobile devices are causing
adolescents – age group 12 to 17 to have a hard time
,
communicating in a face-to-face environment.
Todays’ adolescents have access to technology since birth, making
it a part of their everyday lives. The “Digital Natives” as they are
,
called, have a natural bond to digital devices. They are growing up
in a different environment from their parents, where technological
advances require new skills and activate different areas of the
brain both positive and negatively. The overuse of digital devices
put adolescents on an uncomfortable zone when to communicate
with traditional methods, such as face-to-face conversations. The
consequence of adolescents avoiding traditional conversation
creates a continuous cycle resulting negatively in their social lives.
As I investigate the impact mobile devices have on adolescents, I
propose to develop an interactive platform to stimulate real world
connections to break through the cycle.
