Mashujaa Day, which translates to "Heroes Day" in English, is a national holiday in Kenya observed on October 20th. This day is observed to honour people who contributed to Kenya's independence from colonial authority. They have made major contributions to the country's progress. Previously, "Mashujaa Day" was known as "Kenyatta Day," after Jomo Kenyatta, a freedom warrior in Kenya's independence campaign. Following his release, he became Kenya's first Prime Minister. On October 20, 2010, following the adoption of Kenya's new constitution, "Kenyatta Day" was renamed "Mashujaa Day" to honour all those who contributed to freedom.
