Elizabeth Garrett Anderson
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson is often considered to be one of the most significant women in the history
of medicine and society, her work is often considered to be a turning point in history. She refused to
accept a domestic role and who fought to change the prevalent Victorian attitude that women and men
could not be equal. She was the first female doctor in Britain, helped to establish the women s suffrage
movement, and provided inspiration to her contemporaries and to those who followed in her footsteps.

Eventually, she enrolled as a nurse at Middlesex Hospital and attended lectures given to the male
student doctors. This lasted only a few months, as the students complained about her attendance when
she started to outshine them in lectures. However, they didn t stop her, she continued to persevere.
This is an example of the attitude barriers that Garrett Anderson had to overcome in order to achieve
her goal, as women, again as stated before, were often held back due to the arrangement in society.
Elizabeth worked extremely hard to work through all the negative aspect that came along with
achieving this profession; it was her drive and ambition that sailed her through.
She turned to private study and was taught anatomy at the London Hospital and general medicine
under the tuition of professors at St Andrews University and Edinburgh University Extra Mural
School (Brooks 13 15). None of this would have been possible without the continued financial and
moral support of her father. In order to practice medicine, Garrett had to gain a qualifying diploma.
London University, the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons and other examining bodies
refused to allow her to sit their examinations, but she discovered that the Society of Apothecaries did
not specifically ban women from taking their exams. In 1865 Elizabeth went on to pass the

3. Learning and Memory Essays
xxLEARNING AND MEMORY Learning is the process of gaining knowledge or skills through study,
experience or teaching. It is a process that depends on experience and leads to long term changes in
the possible behaviour of an individual in a given situation, in order to achieve a goal. Memory is a
property of the human mind. It describes the ability to retain information. There are different types of
classifications for memory based on duration, nature and retrieval of items. The generally accepted
classification of memory is based on how long you can remember an item or experience (memory
retention), and identifies three types of memory: sensory memory, short term memory, and long term
memory The sensory memory corresponds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the exact role of the hippocampus, but agree that it has an essential role in the formation of new
memories about personally experienced events. Some researchers prefer to consider the hippocampus
as part of a larger medial temporal lobe memory system responsible for declarative memory. When a
long term, declarative memory is made, certain neuronal connections in the temporal lobe are
strengthened, and others are weakened. These changes are fairly permanent, however some may take
weeks or months before they are complete Skill memory or procedural memory however, is processed

4. The Law Of Supply And Demand
What is the law of supply and demand? They are theories explaining an interaction between the supply
of a source and a demand for that resource. The law of supply and demand defines the availability of a
particular product and the demand for that product has on the price. If there is a lower supply and a
higher demand, the price will be high, but the greater the supply and lower the demand, the lower the
price will be for the product. This is an environment where buyers and sellers interact to exchange
goods, the price of which is determined by both supply and demand for them.
What is the law of demand? Law of demand is the rule that holding everything else constant, when the
price of a product falls, the quantity demanded of the product will increase, and when the price of a
product rises, the quantity demanded of the product will decrease. The consumers will buy more
goods when the price falls and less of any other good when the price rises. This leads into the
substitution effect and income effect because if the price of a product falls, the consumers buy a larger
quantity. For the substitution effect, the change in the quantity demanded of a good that results from a
change in price making the good is more or less expensive relative to other goods that are substitutes.
For example, when the price of an android falls, people will substitute buying androids for other goods
like an iPad and another cell phone. The income effect however, has a changes in the quantity

In the distant past, the world of Paradiso is a magical land filled with tons of magical energy. Nature

magical beings called Seraphs and they use their powers to live happily. The future of that world
might continue to prosper if it weren t for these certain events. It started a few Seraphs causing many
crimes to get what they want. These seven Seraphs soon wanted the precious energy of Paradiso and
attack their own brethren to get their hands on it. Soon, they were defeated by the other residents and

The Civic Engagement assignment illustrates the value of incorporating a civic engagement
opportunity as a supplement to traditional lecture and reading materials. While this assignment differs
from service learning, the civic learning that takes place during the semester leads to the development
of knowledge, skills, and community contacts that are necessary for active citizenship. As described
throughout this paper, despite the passive sounding title of courtroom observation, this assignment
requires significant interaction and engagement with court personnel to be completed successfully.
Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and to
watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine that, in
one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences
(approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate
without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center? Who

9. Essay on South Delaware Coors Case Study
The situation facing Mr. Larry Brownlow is a tough one. He is young with minimal money to work
with. This shows that he must be careful and research all of his investing activities closely. The
problem that faces him is deciding if opening a Coors Beer brewery in his area of Delaware is a
profitable investment. The beer is obviously not widely carried in the area so that makes the situation
that much harder. He has less information to work with. This is why he contacted the Manson
Research Firm. That presents the second problem. The firm will do the research to help do a feasibility
analysis, but the information is not cheap. Larry is working with about two weeks until the deadline to

This study could be valuable because it offers information on how the population has and could
change over the years. You can take this and technically watch population changes. If the population
in the area is on the decline, it might not be smart to invest because there would be a minimal amount
of people in the area to consume the product. If the population is on the rise, that would be a positive
indication. Basically showing that the area is growing and that shows a good sign for investing. This
information costs $1,500.
Third is a study that investigates Coors market share estimates for 2000 through 2005. This looks into
the number of gallons of the brand that are consumed locally and nationally. This is important because
it shows if anyone in the area is already consuming the product. If people are already consuming the
product it could be a good investment because you already have a market established. If not, you
could take the gamble which would be to basically trying to go into the new area and try to establish
some sort of presence for your brand. This information costs $2,000.
Fourth is a study focusing on estimates for Liquor and Beer licenses in the area for 2000 through

Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Education
Human Papillomavirus is a broad term used to describe over one hundred and fifty related viruses.
The Human Papillomavirus, better known as HPV is named for the warts (papillomas) that become
present on the skin of an HPV victim. HPV is transmitted via intamainte skin to skin contact. Each
year a small number of cases of HPV go unknown because no symptoms are present or the body fights

became HPV negative within 1 year and as many as 91% of them became HPV negative within 2
years, with a median duration of infection of 8 months. Certain HPV types, such as HPV 16, are
associated with increased rates of persistence; however, in the previously mentioned study, the 24
month clearance of HPV 16 was 72%. Thus, the majority of these infections clear. Other factors
associated with persistent HPV infection include age higher than 30, parity, infection with multiple
HPV subtypes, immunosuppression, smoking, and oral contraceptive use.
Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia caused by HPV can clear without treatment, but the rate of clearance
varies according to the severity of the lesion; high grade lesions have a greater rate of progression to
cervical cancer (Blackman). Sixty percent of CIN 1 lesions are likely to regress spontaneously, 10%
are likely to progress to CIN 3, and only 1% is likely to progress to invasive cancer. For CIN 3, these
numbers are quite different: approximately one third of these lesions are likely to regress, and the rate
of progression to cervical cancer is greater than 12% if left

there is no divine production of the world or there being three different people but as a union. There s
another one saying that Jesus didn t fully become man and didn t have the true things of man. How I

12. A Comparative Analysis Of Fasting, Feasting By Anita Desai
Though the novel ends in facilely compromising way of Sita s returning with her husband and
children to the dull and disgusting Bombay life, she doesn t make any attempt to liberate herself from
the shell of psychic paralysis and resigns herself passively to the inanimate and insipid life of Bombay
which in reality is a limbo of death in life.
In Fasting, Feasting, Anita Desai uses light touch, simple language, uncomplicated structure, but at the
same time addresses some very big issues and makes a point. In this novel Uma and Arun are children
of Mamapapa, the apparently indivisible common identity that parents present. These parents,
however, are not at all alike. Mama is protective, perhaps selfish, and not a little indolent. Papa is a
parsimonious control freak who locks away the telephone because someone might use it. But they are
at least together. Their relationship has survived, despite the long wait for a son, and their
disappointment at his disability. Fasting, Feasting presents apparent opposites, two contrasting, if
imbalanced scenarios, India and the USA. It offers two deformed observers, Uma and Arun. It unpicks
two contrasting cultures and finds that women are slaves in both. The opposites are thus ultimately
similar, hardly opposed.

and the shock provokes a reflection on these two frustrated women: But what is plenty? What is not?

13. Legal Consciousness And The United States
In this essay, we will discuss the term of legal consciousness, and the importance of why the concept
was developed and most importantly the weaknesses and strengths of legal consciousness in the
United States. We will then look together to first define what is legal consciousness? Legal
consciousness is what people think and say about the law. It is often referred to as social
consciousness. More simply put, legal consciousness is the attitude people with regards to the law and
this may vary amongst people from different class, gender, educational backgrounds, race, ethnicity
and political views. It is the legal awareness of the public about the law and how the law works and
what is legal vs. illegal. An individual s legal consciousness gives meaning to one s perspective of
how they think about the law. Legal consciousness changed with time and space according to legal
scholars. Legal consciousness helps us differentiate the gap between the law on he book and the law in
action (Susan S. Silbey, page 1). Ewick Silbey describe consciousness as engaging in the social
movement and predominance. (Susan S. Silbey, page 333). Ewick and Silbey describe as before, with,
and against the law, are described asa the cultural tool kit from which popular understandings of
legality are constructed (Susan S. Silbey, page 349). Ewick and Silbey say that belonging into one of

14. Positive Impact Of Two Stable Biological Parents On Children
Positive Impact of Two Stable Biological Parents on Children
The debate on the type of family structure that has a positive influence on children has been widely
contentious. In the recent years, the family structure has continued to change. Many people in the
modern society have continued to change their attitudes when it comes to matters of marriage and
raising children. There are more single parents in the society today as a result of divorce and
separations. Consequently, this has contributed to an increase in the number of children brought up by
single parents. The current changes in family structure have become an issue of public concern
because of the effect it has on both the parents and children. It is evident that children who are brought
up by two biological parents do well as compared to children raised by single parents. Biological
parents in this case refer to married couples who relate to their children through blood (Bachman et
al., 2012). The single parent can be a biological father or mother who takes care of the needs of his or
her children. Two biological parents play an important role in providing the children with necessary
support during younger age by employing various parenting styles and practices. Marriage is a social
norm and the idea of raising children should be a combined effort of both parents. Children raised by
single parents lack good parental care and support which impact on their lives years later. This paper
discusses why two biological

With the continually worsening conditions, and the stock market crash on Black Tuesday, October 29,

excluding the rich upper class, became poor and most unemployed. The majority of the American
populace found themselves living in shantytowns or Hoovervilles as they later became to be known,
which consisted of many cramped shacks constructed from whatever was available. This meant old

With the public work programs, Hoover provided unemployed Americans with many different jobs in
order to create some sort of income. The most famous of these programs was the Boulder Dam, which
will be talked about later. Throughout the entire depression, Hoover stood on his belief of a hands off
government until late in his presidency. Under pressure from Americans and his fellow politicians,
President Hoover eventually gave in and signed an act granting money and/or food to areas in dire
need. That was the extent of his direct relief.
As previously mentioned, the Boulder Dam was one of the most famous, and certainly most expensive
(with the whole project costing about $385 million) public works program. To provide jobs and much
needed money to unemployed Americans, the Bureau of Reclamation, under President Hoover,
authorized the Boulder Canyon Project on the Colorado River in 1928. The entire project included a
hydroelectric power plant and a reservoir to control floods of the Colorado River and supply power to
the Pacific Southwest. The dam reservoir is Lake Mead, which can store approximately 28 million
acre feet of water, making it one of the world s largest artificially created bodies of water. Besides
providing many jobs, the project responsible for the officially named Hoover Dam (as of 1947), added

Needs Assessment As chair of the committee charged with the recommendation for the purchase of
new computer equipment, I will detail a suggested plan for this $50,000 project at Central High
School. The high school has 1000 students in four grade levels (9th through 12th), and has
approximately 60 and 20 supporting staff. An inventory of the computers at the whole school was
conducted to understand what is currently available. There is currently one computer lab per grade
level in the school with 22 computers each, allowing for each grade use of this for one period per day.
There are also two computers in each classroom (one for student use, one for teacher use) as well as a
bank of computers in the library. There are also individual computers for the guidance counselors,
nurse, principals and assistant principals, and office staff. As the inventory was being done, a survey
was passed out to all of the staff asking where the needs were greatest and what specific equipment
was lacking. The overwhelming desire of the majority of the teachers was more computers in the
individual classrooms, specifically in the math and science rooms as a lot of current information was
required and there was a lot of competition for its use. There was a great desire to be flexible and
move the computer from place to place, such that a laptop computer or tablet computer was preferred
over a desktop. Market Research In order to take the needs of the school and convert that into a

Baby Bloopers/ Hospital Horrors I had my first child on Pesach, all went swell B H, the hospital
experience was new to me. The War Stories happened by my next two births. I was myself for
Shabbos, my husband went home to host the Shalom Zachar. I was on Percoset at the time this story
took place. By the time I understood what happened, the mess was all straightened out. When the
story traveled around, and got back to me with hands and legs, it turned humorous. I had the baby
locally, and at some point, Shabbos afternoon, nurses scurried into my room and grabbed the baby out.
I tried to ask some questions and, as I got vague responses, I said you just brought him in why are you
taking him back, is everything okay? Apparently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one of the nurses were done she put the child back in the wrong bassinet! It was a holiday
weekend in December, they were understaffed, and the nurse who caused this particular mess was
Pakistani. She was quite nasty and had given me the wrong baby for a total of 4 feedings, until the
error was caught. We were just post 9/11 so being that she was Pakistani the story grew arms and legs,
and was quite humorous to hear people repeat it back to me in its embellished form that we had sued
the hospital, and that it was somehow done intentionally. Another tall tale, that they mixed up a boy
and a girl and that s the only reason it was caught, and that we actually left the hospital with the wrong
baby, on and on went the various versions, people said it with such certainty and authority. When I
finally clued them in to the fact that they were talking to the person it happened to, they were not
convinced of my version was the one they were referring to, and would say, oh well, maybe it
happened to you too, but I know for certain what I just told you happened to someone, because my
friends neighbors cousin told her so.... Since this happened to me, I have heard first hand from other
people with similar experiences, of getting the wrong baby in top notch hospitals, all I can say is thank
goodness it was mixed up with another frum baby. Some people are horrified, and insist that they
would never mix up their baby, they would for sure realize... yeah, yeah at four in the morning with
the lights out, 12 hours after giving birth, heavily medicated... don t go

21. Concealed Handguns in College Campuses
Concealed Handgun Should college students be allowed to carry a concealed licensed handgun?
Should students be permitted individual security on college campus? In 1791, our founding fathers
established in the U.S Constitution the right that everybody has the right to bear arms . The right to
bear arms in the Second Amendment gives individuals the right to own guns and indicates that the
government cannot restrict this right. Colleges do not allow individuals to carry these weapons on
campus because most think it is too dangerous and can cause individuals to be in danger including the
law enforcement, staff and other college students. Despite this right, weapons on college campuses
lead to dangerous situations, violence, and even death.
Point #1: More guns will lead to increased violence: Public and private colleges should prevent their
students from carrying concealed handguns into campus because violence has increased more than
ever in U.S history. According to an article on a student who carried a concealed handgun on campus,
authors Ian Shapira and Tom Jackman spoke to increased violence which can be seen in the Virginia
Tech Shooting where Thirty three people were killed Monday, April 17, 2007 on the campus of
Virginia Tech in what appears to be the deadliest shooting rampage in American history, according to
federal law enforcement officials. Many of the victims were students shot in a dorm and a classroom
building. When students have access to weapons,

23. The Tuskegee Study Essay
President Clinton in 1997 apologized for the harm caused by what might be called as America s most
notorious medical experiments, The Tuskegee Study saying The legacy of the study at Tuskegee has
reached far and deep, in ways that hurt our progress and divides our nation. We cannot be one America
when a whole segment of our nation has no trust in America. An apology is the first step, and we take
it with a commitment to rebuild that broken trust. We can begin by making sure there is never again
another episode like this one. We need to do more to ensure that medical research practices are sound
and ethical, and that researchers work more closely with communities. (The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2013) This study could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1972, however, reports of the experiment were leaked into the press and the experiment was halted.
This led to an outcry among the African American community. But by that time, many of the
participants had died and many others had passed on the disease to their wives and children. (Reverby,
S.M., 2009)
This study was a symbol of unethical conduct and racial discrimination in medicine primarily because
of two reasons. First, the subjects were never told that they had syphilis and thus, informed consent
did not play any role in this experiment. Secondly, the subjects were told that they were being treated
for bad blood , a term used in the local language for various illnesses such as anemia and fatigue. In
reality, however, the officials never treated the subjects for syphilis. The subjects were only provided
free medical exams, free meals and burial insurance in return for their participation in the study. The
only permission which was taken from the subjects was that to autopsy their body after death as also
paying for their burial. Thus, the Tuskegee experiment can be described as non therapeutic experiment
that lasted for a very long duration of 40 years. (Reverby, S.M., 2009)
It draws our attention to a very important factor of racial discrimination. The concept of race,
however, was not initiated because of

27. The Fountainhead Movie And Book Comparison
The Fountainhead is an American black and white drama film which was released in 1949. It is an
adaptation of the novel called Fountainhead, written by Ayn Rand, who also wrote the screenplay for
the film.
Both the novel and the film rotate around the central character Howard Roark, who gets rusticated
from his university for having a very different train of thought and vision in architecture than what his
professors would deem him to have. He then voluntarily chooses to struggle rather than compromise
his foresight along with his creative and individual vision to practice modern architecture; which he
believes to be greater than the traditional and old school architecture and train of thought. He thus he
interacts and struggles with various people who help him or act as barriers to his work and progress.
Ayn Rand grew up in the Soviet Union where all the citizens were ruled by a dictator, although she
always held her own and wished for political freedom and basic human rights. That is when he wrote
The Fountainhead. The protagonist of the story is Howard Roark who is an embodiment of herself,
what she wishes to be and how society keeps pulling him down as they cannot accept his radical
thoughts and creativity. Ayn states it, that her main theme in the book, individualism versus
collectivism is not in the political structure of the economy but in the minds of the human beings
living in it. Collectivism is the forced herding of men into a group, with the individual

29. Intervention Programs ( Anjour )
Intervention Programs (Anjour)
Early alert intervention programs can be beneficial to colleges to assist them with identifying students
who are at risk of not being academically successful (Tampke, 2012 2013; Bryan Simmons, 2009).
Equally important, students entering college for the first time encounter significant changes from
those encountered in high school as the academic demands are usually more rigorous. In addition,
some freshman students struggle with academic success, which impacts persistence; therefore, early
intervention programs should be considered. According to Vanthournout, Coertjens, Donche, and Van
Petegem (2012), student academic persistence is an expected outcome of early intervention programs.
Learning Methods Course. Tuckman and Kennedy (2011) compared a group of 702 freshman college
students at a large mid western university: half of the students took a learning methods course, and
half of the students did not take the course. The purpose of the course was to assist students with
increasing accountability, self esteem, learning modality, readiness skills, and managing their personal
responsibilities. Data from the study concluded that students who completed the methods course had a
higher rate of persistence towards academic achievement, and graduated at a higher rate than the
students who did not take the course. Moreover, the occurrence of graduating was 50% greater for
those students who were experiencing academic difficulty. For this

30. Analysis Of The Book Zadie Smith
Zadie Smith is a British African writer, she was born October 25, 1975 in the United Kingdom. Some
of her most well known books are: On Beauty, White Teeth, NW, The Autographed Man, and latest
book, Swing Time. When she wrote White Teeth she was known as a strong and powerful writer. She
wrote White Teeth when she was 24. Her latest work Swing Time is the first piece of work that is
written in first person. In her books there are many themes that she has in her book, she has

that that book is the strongest. Aside from this NW one of her strong books tells a lot about Zadie

Her first point that she makes is that NW takes on things that she takes on different people who are
from different races and have different voices. I believe that this is true because Zadie Smith has
different characters in her book that show different types of people. In her life she also liked to be
around many books and her life changed a lot, which shape the different characters in NW. Zadie
Smith s life is like her character, Felix who used to get in a lot of trouble when he was young, but now
it seems like he has everything together. Zadie Smith in the novel NW, says, Hollywood had nothing
on Felix when it came to imagining the future (Smith 157). This shows that Felix was just like Zadie
Smith. When Zadie Smith like Felix was young did not at all think about what they were going to do
in the future. Zadie Smith wanted to become a actress but she liked to read. She then became a writer.
This kind of shows the opposite of what Smith wanted; she was into drugs and now she is very
successful. Another point that Pes makes is that images of breaking glass and things going to pieces
are supposed to show the coming apart of friendships and relationships between people in the novel.
In the journal Annalisa Pes says, The chaos, fragmentation and unruliness in which all the characters
of NW live are also suggested by metaphorical devices: images of objects breaking, glasses
splintering, dishes going to pieces are juxtaposed to scenes of human

31. Essay on A Girl Named Paige
I walk through the doors to the fourth building, aiming towards the bathroom but instead, continue to
the hallway next to the library and sit across and diagonal from this girl who always makes me curious
with the way she looks, the way she acts. Everyday I see her, sitting alone. It s only seven thirteen and
I know her friends will join her soon; I stay sitting across from her. Everyday, my curiosity grows. I
see her all day and I know next to nothing about her. She sits alone most of the time, an almost forlorn
look plastered to her face. Alone now, I know she sees me. Her eyes dart up at me as I sit then return
to their staring at a random splat on the floor, wall, anywhere. Part of me wants to think she s just

They converse about fictional characters and how marvelous they are. Tired of this conversation, I
decide to venture elsewhere, although I intend to keep an eye on Paige in first hour. During first hour,
Paige is just as vivacious, even more so than earlier. I notice then how small she is. Slim, but not puny,
and somewhat tall is her body stature. She s just small enough to be swallowed by any crowd. The
dark clothes make her shrink into herself. The incessant hoodies she wears contribute to absorbing her.
I suppose it reflects her personality, always drawn in, like a tortoise in a shell. I wonder how her
friend, Courtney, is friends with her. They seem polar opposites. Courtney looks outgoing, confident.
As I look at Paige, I can tell she isn t. I can see her low self esteem in the way she slouches and the
dullness in her eyes when she s contemplating. On one hand, I feel sympathetic for her. It s as if life
for her is so gruesome. On the other hand, however, her demeanor is disgusting. Low self esteem is
the least attractive quality in others. She seems comfortable, so why is it she always seems so
sorrowfully somber? I shake my head and stand as the bell rings, heading to second hour. On our way
to second hour, I walk behind Paige. Once she steps outside the classroom her face instantly takes on
that disheartening expression. I wonder silently, is her life really that poisonous? Does she return
home and act this way? I

32. Economic Platform For The Philippines
Economic Platform for the Philippines economic growth in the trade sector Brooks (2014) states that
in 2008, the entire Southeast Asian economy received roughly less than half as much foreign direct
investment as China did. Four years later, they pulled to within spitting distance. Why is there a
sudden surge of international interest in this particular region? It is because ASEAN s five core
countries Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand have been growing faster than any
other regional grouping in the world over the past 5 years, with Philippines standing out in particular
because of its impressive 6.6% economic growth rate as of 2012. The Philippines is now one of the
fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia, going from a developing market to what is considered
now as an emerging market in a global scale because of the competency of trade in the Philippines. To
properly define trade, it is a basic economic concept that involves multiple parties participating in the
voluntary negotiation and then the exchange of one s goods and services for desired goods and
services that someone else possesses (Trade, 2003). Trade has been occurring around the world for
centuries and the purpose of it is to address the problem of coincidence of wants. Generally, there are
two forms of trade: Foreign and Domestic Trade. Akrani (2011) states that foreign trade is the
exchange of goods and services between different countries. It is further divided into 3 groups:

greatest inventions of all time is yet to be determined, but handheld technologies are definitely
changing the way people access and work with information. Handheld technologies were first created
to help make some of life s current tasks simpler and faster to complete. Two of the main handheld

Four GPS satellite signals are used to compute positions in three dimensions and the time offset in the

Although the GPS was created for the U.S. military, ordinary citizens are currently using it for several
other purposes. These were not initially thought of as being functions for the GPS, though. As Sam
Nitzberg said, The Global Positioning system (GPS) was developed by the US military in order to
better effect its many missions. GPS can be used to effectively guide and provide navigational support
to military vessels, combat aircraft, covert action teams, and missile systems. What was not predicted
when GPS technologies were being developed was how GPS would eventually be incorporated into
civilian aircraft systems, automobiles, personal GPS systems which plug into computers equipped
with mapping software, and personal handheld GPS units for hikers or other recreational use. It is not
necessarily always possible to work on technologies and understand what their ultimate use will be
