2. Pros And Cons Of Plastic Water Bottles
United States is the leading country on a global scale that produces and consumes millions of
gallons of water annually. Oil, a limited and expensive resource, is used in the process of creating
polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic water bottles which is generally regarded as a safe and
recyclable packaging material. (Palliser, 2010) The process of manufacturing bottled waterto meet
the United Statesdemand uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually. (Ban the Bottle, 2014)
The following examples will help to visualize how much of valuable, natural resources are used:
in a year, the energy used to produce bottled water is enough to power 190,000 homes and the
millions of barrels of oil used is enough to fuel 1.3 million cars. (Ban... Show more content on

According to a four year, detailed investigation to evaluate the quality and safety of bottled water
conducted by an environmental advocacy group, the Natural Resources Defense Council
(NRDC), traces of various chemicals (THMs such as chloroform and BDCM, both probable
human carcinogens) and arsenic were discovered in high levels. Another chemical found in PET
plastic bottles is antimony that is harmless in small doses but in larger doses can cause nausea,
vomiting, and death. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) A senior scientist at the NRDC, Dr. Gina Solomon
told The New York Times that there is no reason to believe that bottled water is safer than tap
water. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) Public water in the U.S. is heavily regulated by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) because they require numerous tests for bacteria daily which are
available to the public. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled water and only
require tests on a weekly basis and does not share their discoveries with neither the public nor EPA.

3. The Chruch s Treatment Of Heretics During The Medieval Ages
During the medieval period, the Catholic faith was one of the largest practiced religions, if not the
largest. When one can encompass the wide range of power and influence, as the Church had done, it
can eventually become difficult to maintain absolute control. That was the case for the Catholic
Church as it dealt with heresyand heretics, as is evident in the readings from Michael Goodich, and
Robert Ian Moore. In this essay, I will discuss how the Chruch s treatment of heresy, and treatment
towards the heretics, was a means for them maintain control and power within the Church. The
Church attained a large amount of power and wide range of influence during the medieval period.
To the Church, heresy was a threat to the power and control they had obtained. In order for the
Church to have maintained that control, a plethora of actions were taken to ensure that heretics
could be rooted out. In the reading from Goodich, various steps had been taken to ensure that the
heretics were dealt with. For example, the reading states, We have decided that all property of those
who are heretics or will be in the future is to be confiscated and occupied. Forcibly extracting the
heretics from their property, the Church could effectively displace them, since without having any
land they could not attain much power. Furthermore, the Church would then occupy the property it
confiscated from the heretics. By doing this, it allowed the Church to obtain even more land, which
in turn would

the United States.

The battle between an individual and their inner self is widely depicted throughout different
genres and distinct times in history. In The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter, a novel written by Carson

character, a deaf mute named John Singer, comes into a town where the story takes place and ends

references that the emptiness is deep inside of him to convey that his inner self realizes that
Anastopoulos has done more harm than good, but Singer refuses to accept it and continues to fight

They were acting on behalf of the general public and were doing what the job requires of them.
So when working at the CDC I imagine that job comes with its own code of ethics and that job
would require a code that states working for the good of the public even if it means detaining
someone and restricting a person s freedom for the better good of the public. Because in this
class everyone learned that a person can be bicodal and this allows someone to have multiple

The 1920s was a decade filled with prosperity, chaos, and excitement. During the 1920s, many
ground breaking inventions were introduced, such as the Model T Ford, the radio, and the
television. The discoveries and cultural developments of the 1920s would go on to shape
America for decades to come. The 1920s was arguably one of the most important decades in
American history, in regards to the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an
important decade should have a nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The
decade of the 1920s is referred to as roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as
demonstrated by the birth of a consumer society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of
long standing morals.
The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as
shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when
Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed,
her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful
shirts before, (Fitzgerald 99). Fitzgerald s portrayal of the fictional character Daisy represents the
consumer culture of the 1920s; Americans were obsessed with materialistic wealth. Also, during
the 1920s, the economic wealth of America increased by twofold, granting many American families
with a newfound disposable income.

(Abstract)
After three decades of quantitative control regime, development policy in India had a liberalized
mold in the 1980s. Unleashing of full fledged reform process since 1991 was followed by
significant step up in the rate of economic growth in the country. But as the evidence of unequal
distribution of gains of higher growth started surfacing, the development strategy was further
modified to make the growth process more inclusive. The present paper is motivated by the
question whether regional disparities in development attainment in India tended to increase or
decrease during these three phases of development policy in the period since 1980. The analysis
has been carried out in terms of beta convergence of real per capita income of states of India. The
results suggest divergence in the early years but a moderation of the divergent tendencies in the
subsequent period. However a convergence process has yet to be set in motion. Key words:
Regional disparity, Convergence, Divergence, Development attainments.

The following paper will explore the book, The Road to Serfdom, by F.A. Hayek. I challenge that
many of Hayek s assumptions are still valid today even though his book was written in 1944.
Hayek s assumptions regarding 1) the government s rule of the law, 2) the concept of government

notion that the unscrupulous and uninhibited are likely to be more successful, are still true in
today. Hayek was anti central planning yet not anti welfare state, and he was a libertarian. As a

particular business.
Advantages of Flattening Chart
1.Cost Effective
In this flat organizational structure, there are less (or no) supervisor layers between the official
executives and the staff people. This implies there are less wages, incidental advantages to pay for
administration. Compensation related costs are lessened, empowering the organization to save
amount and additionally give better pay to its specialists.
2.Promotes Rapid Decision Making
Another point of preference around a flat organizational structure is there are few decision making
hoops. Fewer individuals must be counseled around a choice, permitting the administration to give
quick reaction to any issues or concern. It makes an immediate correspondence line between the
individual sitting behind the work area (CEO) and the general population on the cutting edge (the
specialists/workers).This faster decisions make this structure very beneficial.
3.Helps for Clear Communication
What generally happens when data is gone on through a progression of ears and mouths is that it
wound up either contorted, puffed up, or emptied. At the point when communication is gone
crosswise over numerous administration/management layers, there is a

22. Sasanian Influence Essay
Sasanian influence was widespread throughout the Islamic world. But it is quite hard to
differentiate the earliest Islamic objects from their archetypes in Persian or Sassanid art. And it
took a significant amount of times, sometimes even centuries for the majority of the population to
convert, including artists, after the Muslim conquest. But even in the objects that were created
later on, an effect of the predecessor cultures can be seen. Islamic architecture, especially in
places such as Baghdad for example, was based on Persian precedents such as Firouzabad in
Persia. In fact, it has now been discovered that the two designers who were employed by al
Mansur to plan the city s design were Naubakht, a former Persian Zoroastrian, and Mashallah,...

Ctesiphon palace had influenced Muslim artists more than anything. The decorative styles used
in the palace were adopted by the Muslims and were portrayed in a lot of Umayyad and Abbasid
palaces. The palace was built by Khursaw I. It was built of brick kilns, and had an audience hall,
where it is said that three thrones were placed for the three great rulers of the world of that era,
i.e. the emperor of Rome, the emperor of China and the Khagan of Turks; for the time when they
would come to submit to the Sasanian Empire. Similar feature could be seen in the Umayyad
palace at Qusayr Amra, where the frescoes show six rulers of the world in attendance to the
Umayyad caliph. The audience hall in the Ctesiphon palace itself is heavily decorated with
frescoes, which were left untouched even after the Muslim conquest of Persia. That is probably;
where from, the Muslim artist adopted the use of frescoes and can be seen in their medieval
structure. Frescoes were also recently discovered in Shahr e Gur, which further implies that the
Umayyad floor frescoes have not been adopted from the classical floor mosaics but rather the

23. The Universal Theme Of Power In Olemet s Play Oleanna
Through italics, capitalization, and length of discourse per character, Mamet s play Oleanna
develops the universal idea of power as a constant struggle amplified by gender tension and the
human tendency to crave power.
Mamet uses length of speech and interruptions to demonstrate that people become desperate when
powerless and will do anything to regain power. The play begins with a long monologue by John.
He talks on the phone and completely ignores Carol, because she holds little power in the
relationship of professor and student. John is enveloped in his own world and pays no attention
to Carol. The phone is a symbol of power for John and he uses it to interrupt Carol and belittles
her perspective. Near the end of Act One, Carol seems like she is gathering the courage to tell
John a secret about her life that she has never told anyone before, but the phone interrupts: All of
my life... (The phone rings.)... (JOHN goes to the phone and picks it up) and he continues to
argue on the phone for an entire page (Mamet 38). Carol is powerless and therefore insignificant,
so John ignores her and worries about his house. Power is a finite resource; consequently, people
compete for the limited power. Mamet uses interruptions and length of dialogue to express who is
in control. Carol has gained the upper hand as Act Three begins. John attempts to lecture Carol like
he has done in all the previous acts, however, Carol interjects:
CAROL: I was most surprised you asked me.

Integrative approaches to psychology and Christianity
Summary
Enwistle s book, Integrative approaches to psychology and Christianity: An introduction to
worldview issues, philosophical foundations, and models of integration (2010) is a text that
explores integrating psychology and Christianity. We start out by learning about integration related
to both psychology and Christianity. Is this a thing? Is integration between these two subjects a
subject itself? Enwistle explores through time to reveal how psychology and Christianity have been
both closely studied and intertwined throughout time. Enwistle (2010) defines Christian psychology
as a commitment to a Christian worldview that shapes how psychology is studied and applies, and
that recognizes that there are specific Christian resources that uniquely reveal crucial aspects of
what it means to be human (p. 14). Those in the psychology or counseling field who are also
Christian have unique and different approaches but they draw from both Christianity and
psychology to help them succeed.

The author of the poem, The White Man s Burden, was Rudyard Kipling who was born in 1865
in Bombay. As a young person, he lived in India, but at the age of six he was taken to England
and left for five years at a foster home at Southsea so that he could receive a formal British
education. He went to school in Englandand continued his education before returning to his home
place of Bombay in 1882, where he worked as a journalist for seven years. Kipling was an
accomplished journalist, writer, poet and author. Kipling s work was influenced by the
Imperialistic era in which he lived. During this era of Imperialism, European powers practiced a
foreign policy of expanding its influence around the world; both peacefully and by force .Kipling
witnessed the loss of lives on both sides, the British and the inhabitants of India, but still believed
that the British had a right to control India and also a responsibility to civilize the Indians. This
belief was reflected in his poem, The White Man s Burden, which was originally published in

31. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Goat Milk
COMPOSITION OF GOAT MILK Goat milk is made up of water, lipids, protein, carbohydrates,
minerals and vitamins. However, Guetouche et al,2014 states that the composition of milk varies
among breeds within the same species, and also from one dairy to the other, depending on the
period of lactation and diet. Therefore, there is slightly difference in composition among the
goat milk of different breeds. Roughly, goat milk is 88% water and 11.4% solids; it contains
3.2% fat and 8.13% of fat solids. It is also comprised of calcium (0.11%), phosphate (0.08%) and
magnesium (0.21%)(Guetouche et al,2014). LIPIDS Goat s milk derives many of its most
distinctive properties from its lipid fraction. The average total fat content in the milk is similar to
that found in other ruminant species, (Table 1) despite reports that the percentage of fat in goat s
milk exceeds that of the cow. Such a misconception is most likely derived from the fact that the
average percentage of milkfat, as with cow s milkfat, is a variable component, often ranging
between 3.0 and 6.0 percent. There are also district breed differences in fat composition. It should
be remembered, however, the quality and quantity of feeds, genetics season, stage of lactation, etc.

Natural gas is finding its place at the very heart of the energy discussions. The recent discoveries of
quite a substantial amount of natural gas in the U.S.A, primarily as a result of the shale gas
development, have attracted much interest towards natural gas as a key component of energy supply
and have lowered prices well below recent expectations. But in other parts of the globe, prices of

GLOBAL GAS MARKETS
Source: Waterborne, US FERC (prices as of 7th June 2013).
Traditionally, world gas markets have operated as three largely self contained regions. These are
comprised of the Americas; Europe, Africa, and the countries of the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS) and the Far East and Middle East. These regions enjoyed limited
interconnectivity and each region developed its own distinctive supply/demand and pricing
dynamics. In the Americas, prices are determined by short term contracts indexed to the primary
market prices set at the Henry Hub. In Europe, prices are mostly determined by long term
contracts based on the next best alternative, typically indexed against fuel oil and heating oil
prices. In the Middle and Far East, pricing is also typically based on long term contracts, indexed
to a mix of oil prices, but within a defined range and often at higher levels compared to Europe.
These different pricing models have, to date, resulted in very different price levels and price
volatility between the regions.
North American natural gas prices now hover at $4/MMBtu, down from highs in the $10/ MMBtu
to $13/MMBtu range just a few years ago.
In Europe, demand for additional gas continues to accelerate, driven by the depletion of
conven¬tional gas, on going environmental concerns (particularly the growing consensus against
shale gas) and the Fukushima disaster s impact on the role of nuclear power.

33. Dna Marker Research Paper
A DNA marker (size standard or a DNA ladder) is loaded into the first well of the gel. The
fragments in the marker are of a known length so it can be used to help approximate the size of the
fragments in the samples. The prepared DNA samples are then pipetted into the remaining wells of
the gel. When this is done the lid is placed on the electrophoresis tank making sure that the
orientation of the gel and positive and negative electrodes is correct. To separate the fragments, the
electrical current is then turned on so that the negatively charged DNAmoves through the gel
towards the positive side of the gel. The distance the DNA has migrated in the gel can be judged
visually by monitoring the migration of the loading buffer dye. The electrical current is left on long
enough to ensure that the DNA fragments move far enough across the gel to separate them, but not
so long that they run off the end of the gel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pattern of the DNA marker/size standard will be visible. It is then possible to judge the size of the
DNA in the sample by imagining a horizontal line running across from the bands of the DNA
marker. The size of the DNA can be estimated in the sample by matching them against the closest

you a small, short term loanto help you get back on your feet. Payday loans come in many forms,
but generally speaking, they are small ($375 on average), short term (one to two weeks), high
interest (391% API average) loans. Advocates for payday loans argue that the loans are available
for people who have emergencies like sudden medical expenses, and are available when alternate
sources of money are unavailable, or when the alternatives may be more expensive. Opponents of
payday loans point out the fact that a broad majority of payday loans are not used for unexpected
expenses, but are rather used for recurring expenses. Opponents also argue that, while the loans are
advertised as being short term, in reality, a significant fraction of customers use payday loans
repeatedly, and get trapped in a cycle of debtthat is exploitative. These people argue for state and
sometimes federal regulations to curb the exploitative

44. Examples Of Creed
In the aforementioned examples, it was shown how the adoption of creeds causes hindrance to the
finding of truth in science. Yet, why did Hexley say that science commits suicide when it adopts a
creed? It is believed that science commits suicide and dies when its nature is altered. Creed is a
subjective statement that is treated as a dogma, as the incontrovertible truth. When such creed is
adopted in science, it not only hinders people s receptiveness to new ideas, but also threatens the
nature of science that is objective and subject to change based on scientific inquires. The adoption
of a creed and trusting it blindly would only cause science to lose its true nature and hence, what
Huxley referred to as the death of science.
The application of Newtonian science by Halley has marked the beginning of the age of faith in
science (Cohen 62). While it is true that science is fallible and tentative to change, many, especially
layman have taken science as a creed, considering new discoveries the truth. When there is such a
rapid development in science, different fields in science has emerged, causing ... Show more content

This has, in fact, allow civilisation to develop at an unprecedented speed in the previous
decades. The adoption of scientific knowledge as a creed has its grounds for its existence even
though it might hinder people s receptiveness to new ideas and the making of new discoveries.
While it is paramount that researchers in the front line to not take pre existing knowledge in
science as creeds, it is unjustifiable to say the adoption of a creed causes the death of science
especially when considering the public who do not have the expertise nor techniques and have no
choice but to take the pieces of information as

Ludbrook highlights that the code of ethics of the association of child and adolescent
psychotherapists includes a broad requirement that its members do not abuse their position by
taking advantage of clients for purposes of personal, institutional, political, financial or sexual gain.
(Ludbrook, 2012, p77). The Code of Health and Disability Support Services Consumers Rights 1996
outlines that all clients have a right to be respected in relation to their ethnicity, religious values,
gender, and cultural differences. When counselling MДЃori children or young people, then the
counsellor must uphold the principles within the treaty of Waitangi. Ludbrook emphasises that in
order for counsellors to effectively provide bicultural practice, they must have an understanding of
MДЃori language, traditions and cultural values. (Ludbrook, 2012, p78).
There have been several Humanistic and Existential human development theories which are of great
use when counselling children and young people. Some key theorists in these fields include Carl
Rogers, who believed in the inherent nature of the individual to find their own answers to the
problems through non directive counselling. Virginia Axline, who, like Rogers, believed in the
ability of the child to solve their own problems through non directive play in a safe environment.
Fritz Perls, who emphasised the experience of bodily sensations, thoughts and

46. Emily Grierson Modernism
Have you ever been deeply in love? If so, at what lengths would you pursue to be with the person
you want to be with? Emily Grierson, the main character, takes extreme measures to end up with
her lover. In a fictional town in rural Mississippi, Miss Emily Grierson lives with her father in
their family home until his death. Her father, being a powerful figure in the town, abuses Emily
emotionally throughout her life by sending away several gentlemen she falls in love with. When
her father finally passes, Emily gets out and finds a man she truly connects with: Homer Barron.
She falls deeply in love, but he rejects her proposal to marry. This rejection fuels her mental state to

In the story, Faulkner depicts Emily as a woman who suffers from several from several years of
heartbreak and despair. Ranging from the emotional abuse of her father, to the rejection of her
lover, Homer Barron. As far as her character, Emily s appearance resembles a small, fat woman in
black whose skeleton was small and spare (Beers and Odell 721). Faulkner also describes her as
bloated, like a body long submerged in motionless water and her eyes looked like a lump of coal
pressed into dough (Beers and Odell 721). These character qualities symbolize Miss Emily s
personality as well as her physical appearance. Emily s personality presents as tiresome, and bitter
because of the damage she inflicts in her lifetime. Moreover, when the contemporary officials of the
town visit Emily, she lectures to the new leadership that she has no taxes in Jefferson and finally
insists on their dismissal by her house servant, Tobe (Beers and Odell 721). Emily s impolite
behavior traces back to her personality and the devastation it ensues over the years. Furthermore,
Jack Sherting argues that Faulkner, through his narrator, is obviously describing a psychotic
personality; accordingly, Faulkner depicts Emily as a character that has extreme mental health
issues through character qualities.
To conclude, the exhibition of modernism effectively shapes William Faulkner s story, A Rose for
Emily, through the usage

47. Dystopian Bildungsroman
The effect that dystopian societies have on Bildungsroman is not necessarily large, but it still
alters the traditional view of it. First off the dystopian society has a few trademarked aspects.
These include: the use of propaganda to control people, restrictions on freedom, a certain concept
is worshipped by society, constant surveillance, fear of outside world, dehumanized state, real
world is banished and distrusted, individuality is bad, and the society is supposed to be a utopia.
(readwritethink.org)
One of the major differences in Dystopian Bildungsroman is that traditionally the protagonist will
have people who are mentors and help them to find their correct place in society, but in dystopia
there are not many good mentors leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bildungsroman was originally directly about the protagonist s character formation and finding
their place in society, but the dystopian society brings more of a focus on the protagonist
discovering their place despite the corrupt society surrounding them. In Divergent Tris has a
choice to make about her future, she has her family to stay with and a community that she grew
up in and is expected to stay in. What the society has ingrained in her is that despite what she
wants her best place is with her family in the same faction. Society has supplied them with a false
hope of making their own choice when they turn sixteen. When they do turn sixteen, they must
take an aptitude test and attend the choosing ceremony. The aptitude tests place the teens in
simulations of situations that are meant to tell them where they fit the best in society, and
generally the teens only receive one faction that best fits them. In Tris case she received three
different factions as possible choices and was told to keep her results a secret because this rarely
happened and she would be in danger if the people in power found out. This breaks the mold of
Bildungsroman because Tris society has inadvertently given her more than one option showing that
there isn t just one place she can be useful but
