SC Johnson has taken steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase use of renewable energy sources across its global operations. Their 2009 global manufacturing emissions were down 31.6% compared to 2000 levels. Nearly 40% of the electricity used by the company in 2010 came from renewable sources such as wind energy projects in Michigan, Indonesia and the Netherlands as well as co-generation turbines.
Chris Calwell gave a talk on sharply reducing residential greenhouse gas emissions. He discussed how increasing carbon emissions lead to rising CO2 concentrations and global temperatures. It will be expensive and slow to convert energy infrastructure away from CO2 emitting sources. We face a near-term limit on absolute energy consumption. Improving efficiency has had some success but plug loads are soaring. We need to track all factors that drive emissions upward for homes and consumer products like population, acquisitiveness, luxury, usage, carbon intensity, efficiency, manufacturing, and durability. More homes are using solar energy each year but we must go beyond current efficiency standards like ENERGY STAR to achieve deeper reductions.

Nuclear Energy: The Future Of Electricitysanpaku2003
Population growth is expected to increase energy demand significantly in the coming decades. Nuclear energy is a promising alternative to fossil fuels as it produces no greenhouse gases or air pollution and has relatively low costs per kilowatt hour compared to other energy sources. While safety is a concern, modern nuclear plants have stringent regulations and automated safety systems, as well as extensively trained personnel, making them among the safest industrial facilities in the world. The document argues that nuclear power may be the only viable clean and inexpensive solution to meet growing global energy needs.

The document discusses the benefits of wind energy as a renewable energy source. It notes that wind power provides a stable, domestic source of energy without fuel costs and price volatility. While wind energy was initially more expensive than other sources, its costs have decreased and it is now competitive with natural gas. Wind farms also provide local economic benefits through job creation and increased tax revenue. While wind energy faces challenges in infrastructure costs and needing backup power sources, it remains a clean and competitive alternative to help meet America's energy needs.
Electricity powers many modern devices and is generated mostly through burning coal, but some is now created via wind farms. It is dangerous and even lethal to humans but provides a clean energy source. Most electricity in Ireland is produced by the ESB at coal-fired power stations like Moneypoint, though renewable wind power is growing as an environmentally-friendly alternative energy generation method.
The Green Party of New Zealand has launched a new Solar Homes initiative to provide more affordable and cleaner energy. The policy would offer low-cost loans to households to install solar panels, allowing them to generate their own electricity and sell excess power back to the grid. This would save the average household $100 per year on energy costs while creating over 1,000 new jobs and reducing New Zealand's reliance on large energy companies. The goal is to install solar panels in 30,000 homes within the first three years through this loan program that requires no government subsidies.

11. Making home energy transparent and clean.

Energy bills have become too complex for a homeowner to really understand on their own. Homes now generate electricity on the roof, consume twice as much energy as they did 30 years ago, and they have devices, like car chargers, that can be programmed to use electricity at cheapest times, but good luck programming them, because electricity rates look like this
You pay for electricity based on *when* you use it, not just how much. It matters what hour, day, and season you use your electricity.
On top of that, there are 3-6 different rates to choose from. Americans are wasting energy by choosing the wrong electricity rate and using their energy-intensive devices at the wrong times.
Today, $500M is wasted by Americans on their energy bills and it’s expected to climb to 2B by 2024. That’s not too surprising if you understand the energy industry.
We fix that. We analyze and forecast energy to select the right rate, switch them to the right rate, and enable energy devices to programmed to use energy when that rate is cheapest. As an example, we can save new EV owners in the bay area almost $1000 per year.
The same way that Nest revolutionized thermostats by using smart software to optimize the climate
We’re revolutionizing energy-intensive devices to optimize electricity cost. Things like car chargers, batteries and hot water heaters. Our service is licensed and built into products like these.
We are engineers from great schools, combined we have almost a decade of startup and energy modeling experience.
In a little over a year, we’ve earned $250k in revenue using this technology and we have 11 electric vehicle manufacturers active in our pipeline.
So if you’re interested in making home energy transparent and clean, come chat with us. Thanks!
