Prawn In Avatar
In Avatar Humans were forced to leave their home planet because the resources on earth were
depleted. They were forced to look for resources elsewhere and encountered Pandora. District 9 on the
other hand had to deal with aliens who were forced to leave their planet and come to earth. Humans
were seen as invaders in Pandora and the prawns were seen as the invaders on earth. Although humans
were invaders in Pandora they still were in power there. The humans have weapons and technology
superior to that of the Na vi. Humans similarly have power over the prawn in district 9. Although the

In particular the mass corporation known as BnL contributed most in polluting earth and failed to
clean it up. They tried to deploy robots to clean up the earth while earth was evacuated, but it
ultimately failed. The film addresses the problem of mass pollution by showing what the earth turned
into after humans polluted it after many centuries. On earth there is garbage piled up as high as
skyscrapers because of the nonchalant attitude that humans had during their time on the planet. That it
is the film s way of critiquing pollution and is also a warning to us that one day if we continue to
pollute our planet only bad things are going to happen. The film also shows that humans somewhat
pay for their mistakes by living a obese unhealthy life in space. By floating around on chairs and
having everything they need done for them by robots it makes their life purposeless. The Film
addresses the debt the humans owe to earth by destroying it by describing operation recolonize. A
robot by the name of Eve comes back with a plant specimen, which shows that earth can sustain life

The Theme Of American Pastoral By Philip Roth
Human beings strived for a better life since the beginning. Mankind witnessed a never ending race for
happiness, wealth, power and superiority. Many revolutions changed the course of history and became
watershed events having great impact on the human life. While some of the ideas lived on, some of the
ideas were short lived. American Dream was one of such ideas which laid the foundation for the
making of United States of America. The Statue of Liberty itself symbolizes the idea of the Great
American Dream. The celebrated idea of American Dream had tremendous impact on the entire nation
and influenced each and every individual in some way or the other. In fact, it became a significant
subject in the course of history and played a quintessential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The pastoral was initially originated by the Greek poet Theocritus and the Latin poet Virgil, who wrote
poems about the shepherds ( pastor is Latin for shepherd ). In Shostak s book Philip Roth: American
Pastoral, The Human Stain, The Plot Against America, the traditional pastoral is described as: a
deliberate conventional poem expressing an urban poet s nostalgic image of the peace and simplicity
of the life of the shepherds and other rural folk in idealized natural settings (qtd. in. Shostak 34). In
American Pastoral, Roth presents the story of Levovs, an American family, who in search of the
American dream, gain wealth and success, but suffers from heartache and pain due to the adverse
situations. In a way, it is similar to the story of Job in the Holy Bible, in which Job s life moves from
one phase to another, from poverty to riches, and then back to the former. The novel consciously
alludes to Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost, both thematically and formally, with the Jewish post war
acquisition and loss of an American

##ymbolism And Guilt In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara...
People face difficult and life altering challenges every day. Some of the bad times are more complex
and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the
less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she
still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and
allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guilt differently. For starters, Barbara
Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read
Literature Like a Professor, it is stated that rain can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more
simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard
times and guilt. Nelson told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver
172). If rain in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as
pronounced.
The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to
have allusions throughout the story. Allusions bring the theme across because it helps the readers to
see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not
supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse
is a punishment to make them feel guilty for something wrong they

Happiness Cannot Be Taken Away
Joseph sits in his alleyway as the parade goes by. He slumps back as the entire city celebrates an
opportunity that won t affect him. The city was celebrating a day that came once every hundred years.
They current royalty would pass down their crown to one person in their capitol. The winner of the
drawing that would take place would step up as the new royalty. Every citizen of the capitol received
one ticket, and richer citizens could purchase more if they wanted to which usually caused them to
win. However, the winner must perform a task chosen by the current royalty which, if failed, would
cause the winner to lose his prize and the current king or queen to would pass down royalty to their
family for another century.
Joseph decided he might as well experience the festivities that take place at the drawing since it only
came around every century. So, he got up off his back and slowly walked to the courtyard. He looked
to his sides curiously and whistled. An old dog with fleas and some left over lunchmeat in his mouth
came running to his aid. He never gave a dog a name he just called him dog and when he wanted dog
he would just whistle and dog would follow him wherever Joseph needed some company.
Joseph and dog were in the courtyard where they had to practically fight their way through to see what
was going on. Joseph grabbed as much of the free food that was being served as he could and gave
some of it to his dog. Joseph couldn t

Essay On Lingua Franca
This paper looks at the aspects of a lingua franca and its role in societies. Also, the adaptation of other
languages vocabulary and usage into the English language, and how English has impacted vocabulary
and grammar structures on other languages. Furthermore, it talks about the effects on minority
languages due to the continuous spread and dominance of English. Later, it touches upon some
positive aspects that it has brought into modern day life across the globe.
English as a Lingua Franca
Over centuries, the English language has evolved from the roots of other ancient languages including:
Latin, the Germanic languages, French, even Greek. Their influences are clear to see in its vocabulary
and spoken dialects, which have also adopted words into its lexicon. Most of the aforementioned have
their complexities, causing difficulties for students and scholars to learn as second languages.
However, English is a much simpler language to comprehend due to its limited inflections and
familiarity of spoken and written words. Thus, it has become the lingua franca for people around the
world and is taught in the classrooms of most non native speaking countries. As we can see in most
areas of international business and education, the dominance of English is growing at a rapid pace that

The continual spread and reach of the language brings cause for concern for those who feel that the
impact it has on culture, history and traditions of minorities due to its tendency to dominate all aspects
of societies if allowed. However, the usage of the native English language has not gone unaffected due
to cross dialect influences and the need to accommodate others by using non conventional structures.
The positive aspects are too many to mention, especially in the modern times of globalization and I
believe that the case for English as a lingua franca may always be

Anger In A Doll s House
Anger is perhaps not well understood because it is omnipresent; anger is so familiar that we assume
we know what it is. Anger may be partly physiological, cognitive and psychological, yet it is also
deeply ideological. Anger can be manifested in art or literature as a communal sensation towards
social, political or economical conditions. (Sue J. 6)
It is wise to direct your anger towards problems not people; to focus your energies on answers not
excuses, said William Arthur Ward (Ward 24), and so much can be said for the authors, dramatists and
novelists, in the modern era who attempted, through their writings, to crack the shell that is the literary
restrictions on writing, and expressed their anger toward all their surroundings. In ... Show more

At the turn of the century, Expressionism and Symbolism were important, especially in Northern
Europe. Both involved non realistic styles of acting, staging, and language, with expressionism
concentrating on using unusual technical devices to project the interior states of characters. Surrealist
drama, including the work of Eugene Ionesco, is an outgrowth of Expressionism, but no longer
presumes internal coherence and follows the illogic of dream states or random occurrences. Another
group of plays focused on social and political critique, in the case of Berthold Brecht combined with
techniques of alienation (which emphasize the unreal nature of the play) to force the audience to think
critically rather than empathetically. After the World War I western mostly lost its separate literary
identity and more internationally unified. Realism, naturalism and symbolism continued to dominate
the plays. In English drama John Galsworthy s plays are considered to be plays of naturalism. Another
important movement in early 20th century drama was expressionism. They tried to depict the
dehumanizing aspects of 20th century technological life. Even though we cannot find much
playwrights of expressionism in English other western writers followed this. The Angry Young Men of
England also engage in socially aware portraits of the working class but in a more aesthetically
conservative style. In a negative description,

George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush Essay
Like Father Like Son George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush
Although all individuals are unique no matter how closely related they might be, sometimes their
similarities over shadow their differences, and yield a very interesting combination of events that
almost have a deja vu effect on its audience. The Bush family serves as the perfect illustration for this
phenomenon. From their family history and business life, to their life as the Presidents of the United
States, Bush Senior and Junior have led quite parallel lives. The thesis seems to be more complex than
this.

him to buy the Texas Rangers Baseball franchise with a group of friends in 1989. He married Laura
Welch and had twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna. On November 8, 1994 he was elected Governor of
Texas with 53.5% of the votes. He became the first governor of Texas to be elected to two consecutive

Gender stereotypes reflect percievers observations of what people do in daily life (Eagly and Steffan,
1984) and remain if perceivers continue to observe a certain group engaged in specific activities,
which then turn into assumptions that the group is able to perform such tasks. When it comes to
gender roles, Heilman (2001) suggests that there are two roles that either gender can possess, agentic
or communal. Agentic behaviour is usually associated with men, and portrays the idea of being
achievement orientated and taking charge (Solomon, Bamossy, Askegaard, and Hogg, 2013).
Additionally, leadership and manager attributes such as, problem solving, risk taking, and being active
are associated with an agentic, masculine figure (Heilman, 2001). Women, on the other hand, show
communal attributes that are associated with care taking, helpful, and relationship orientated. Sczesny
s work (2003) introduced the common assumption that managerial positions are male dominated,
think manager think male , and crisis situations are associated with females (Haslam Ryan, 2007).
An issue that many women still face in the corporate world is the glass ceiling NEED TO EXPAND

Thomas Hardy s The Mayor of Casterbridge Essay
Thomas Hardy s The Mayor of Casterbridge.
Sex is so intertwined in our society that it pervades each facet, including television, books,
advertising, and conversation. Movies like The Matrix toss in gratuitous sex because the audience
nearly expects it. Thomas Hardy s The Mayor of Casterbridge, therefore, is exceptional in its lack of
sexual situations. The subject of sexual motivation and its inherent ambiguity with regard to Henchard
s actions is a topic that caught my attention from the very first pages of The Mayor of Casterbridge.
Continually in the novel there is tension, but it is never described as sexual. Much the same, there are
countless marriages during the novel but no related sexual attraction is discussed. The ... Show more

It seems that for Henchard, maturity involves a kind of assimilation of female suffering, an
identification with a woman which is also an effort to come to terms with with [his] own deepest sel[f]
(Showalter, 394). It is not until the end of the novel that Henchard realizes this, withdraws from
society, and loses his will to live. However, his wrongdoings are not completely restricted to women.
For this reason, I believe that this indicates not misdirected sexual energy, but a general lack of
knowledge.
Henchard s act of selling his wife had clearly been mentioned between husband and wife prior to the
actual incident, but that does not mean that it was well thought out. In fact, it seems that Henchard
rarely thought things out to a full extent. Selling his wife in the first place would lead me to believe
that he never loved Susan at all.
I married at eighteen, like the fool that I was; and this is the consequence. But a fellow never knows
these little things till all chance of acting upon em is past (9).
Further, this quote shows that Henchard did not even think thoroughly about marrying Susan. He
claims that he was a fool because he was eighteen; I say that at this point in the novel, he had not
grown emotionally in the least.
Likewise, Henchard s relationship with Lucetta seems to be centered on a debt he felt he owed her for

Food Is Cheap, At Least Compared With 4 Years Ago By Dan...
Summary The article that I did was Food is Cheap, At Least compared with 4 years ago by Dan
Charles. This article is about how the global food price index is going down, and has fallen to its
lowest level in the last four years. It is saying that a lot of different foods are getting cheaper like
grains, vegetable oils, sugar, and dairy products. So that means that CPI should decrease now since a
family will be spending less money on those products. The only place where the prices are not falling
is in the meat industry especially in the beef industry. That is because the supply for beef was
decreased after a drought made the suppliers want to decrease the size of the herd. That in turn caused
the producers of the beef to have expectations that the future was going to be bleak for them. So they
decided to not spend as much in their planned investments. Now because of these past decisions; when
the market rebounded it the supply was down. Another plus in the market that is currently happening
in the U.S. right now is that the food industry is having harvests of corn and soybean that will break
the records in the overall production and yield per acre. This has caused the grain prices to fall by
almost half. This makes the producers of pork, poultry, and beef very happy. Their PPI has gone down,
so they are getting their things that they need to feed their animals cheaply. Then they are selling their
animals at a very high rate, higher than normal

How Did Florence Contribute To The Renaissance
Italian city states were small independent cities between the 9th and 15th century that gradually grew
overtime. Important cities such as Florence, Genoa and Venice contributed to the Renaissance.
However, Florence was one of the most significant of them all. During this period, money from
wealthy groups such as the Medici family, was used to support famous artists who made this city
important as it is. It was to be said that Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance, in other words
the start of a whole new dimension full of new ideas.
Leadership played an important role to help Florence gain importance. During the 15th to 18th
century, the Medici family was a major influence to Florence even though they were an uncrowned

Benefits Of A Paid Maternity Leave
Paid maternity leave is a specific period of time allotted by one s employer in which a woman is able
to be on paid leave after having a child. Most, if not all developed countries in the world offer paid
maternity leave to it s expectant women. However, paid maternity leave is considered a privilege, not
a right in the United States and it is not mandated to be offered by employers. Although the length of
paid leave varies from country to country, it is evident that countries around the world see value in
giving women time with their new children while maintaining financial stability. The most common
form of maternity leave around the world includes around 12 weeks of paid leave of some sort which
is usually mandated by the country s government, while the United States is one of three developed
countries in the world who do not have mandated paid maternity leave laws in place. According to the
Institute for Women s Policy Research, 3 out of 4 people, or 76% of the U.S. population, would like to
see policies in place mandating paid maternity leave. This essay will discuss paid maternity leave in

One major cultural change to the humanities were wall paintings. In the Paleolithic times there were
wall paintings on the wall that basically showed that humans lived during this time and were
surviving. Figures of people were drawn and animals. Moving into the Neolithic period the wall
paintings were more intricate. You could see animal and human movement in pictures. Like people
dancing or fighting, showing something more than just a drawing. You could see humans were
advancing by using bow and arrows to hunt, as shown in some paintings. Another cultural change
would be people becoming herders and farmers rather than hunters and gathers. People in the

Close Air Support Research Papers
Close Air Support (CAS) is a complex mission due to the interaction of ground forces and airpower in
short distance from the enemy. Historical examples evidenced that cultural differences and service
rivalry affected the efficiency of CAS after World War II; while on the other hand, having a joint force
with proper training improved its performance. The US Air Force and US Army argued about the
property of the assets as the main factor limiting efficiency, conversely the Marine Corps exploited the
strength of having CAS as the rationale for their air assets to optimize its procedures. However,
beyond the issue of who owns the planes, the real difference is the use of proper training to integrate

review of historical examples of CAS training, the problems of current training and future challenges
to enable joint training under current restrictions of budgets and availability of forces. CAS was one of

Pros And Cons Of Athenian Democracy
It is clear that Plato s opposed the concept of democracy. In fact he ranks both timocracy and
oligarchy as favourable to democracy and maintains that only tyranny is a less preferable form of
government (Plato 1955 ). John Wild believed The most serious charge against Plato from a modern
point of view is that he is an enemy of democracy. (Thorson 1963) In his book the republic he
describes what he perceives to be the ideal state, in so doing he lays out his criticisms of the Athenian
democracy. His criticisms are as follows : inherent class tension, the pillars of equality and liberty and
the ability of normal people to rule justly. Inherent class tensions appear to be a serious criticism by
Plato of the democratic system. He believed ordinary citizens lack discipline and respect for authority.
They did not have reason to follow the rules that the rulers had put down upon them. It [democratic

Democracy is based on the belief that every citizen has the right to have a say in the running of the
city, no matter how much knowledge they have. In contrast, in his utopian society it s the guardians,
who were to be highly trained and educated, that ran government. In the athenian democracy the key
to a successful political career lay in the art of oratory rather than philosophical and political
knowledge. This disgusted Plato as he felt that a system should place emphasis on value and merit
rather than place it on unconditional equality which led to less knowledgeable people coming to
power. He believes everything in nature is part of a hierarchy, and that nature is ideally a vast
harmony, a cosmic symphony ,(Plato 1955) unlike in a democracy a state should be like nature where
people are ranked according to their aptitudes, and definitively placed in the social hierarchy (Plato
1955) not all made

Modern Day Radio Research Paper
Between the telephone and the telegraph, one object sits perfectly between, claiming the award for
best electrical invention. The modern day radio is a perfect hybrid between these two extravagant
things. Of course, many inventions are to be thanked for leading the way to this timeless possession,
and the same can be said about the radio itself. Still used today, the applications are endless. Before
we knew what to do with radio waves, a fast form of communication over long distances was to use a
telegraph. Samuel Morse and the other inventors found a way to transmit electrical signals over a
wire. Using a series of dots and dashes, Morse Code was revolutionary. In reality, however, it was
merely a phase.

The No Child Left Behind Act Of 2001 ( Nclb )
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is a United States Act of Congress that is a
reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which included Title I, the
government s flagship aid program for disadvantaged students. No Child Left behind was enacted with
the intent to become a government aid program for disadvantaged students, and eventually raise the
general education standards for the United States. This act was created with the idea to close the
achievement gap with accountability, flexibility, and choice, so that no child is left behind (ESEA) to
put most simply. The act serves to only require certain basic skills, but does not have any national
achievement standards, as it is decided on by each individual state. The bill was signed into effect by
George W. Bush in January of 2002. Many people, opposers and supporters alike, argue that it is a one
size fits all approach to education and teaching that puts too much emphasis on testing and doesn t
fund schools properly, making it nearly impossible to achieve success. The law was initially designed
to introduce national standards to a system in which students in some demographic groups were more
likely to succeed and others likely to be left behind. But it allows states to determine how success is
measured, which could be the source of its downfall.
The problems with NCLB seem to be endless. The biggest, and most easily solved, is the lack of a
plan. NCLB was enacted with several goals:

My View On The Existence Of God
It was the night before the last day of our Faith Reason class and I had previously been tasked with
finding a specific topic to argue for. I decided to cover the idea of my own faith and how it copes with
the multiple viewpoints varying from atheists, theists, and the Bible as well as the opinions on reason
and the very existence of God. Within this paper, I will explain why my faith is eternal and no matter
how much evidence there is against the existence of God, my conviction that there is a supreme being
who oversees all that goes on in this world, will continue to avail. The first reading that really drew
my attention was Flew s example of the gardener and the believer s stance that the gardener existed.
This triggered my thoughts to relate that case to my own faith and how I am able to retain my belief
that God exists, against the deposition that he does not. No matter how many tests the Sceptic
requested to prove that there was a gardener, the Believer maintained his faith until his belief that
there was a gardener was basically useless. Flew eventually got to the point where he described the
Sceptic asking, Just how does what you call an invisible, intangible, eternally elusive gardener differ
from an imaginary gardener or even from no gardener at all? (Flew, 298) I relate Flew s example to
my own case of how an atheist could possibly ask me how God exists if he is not ever seen and there
is no real proof that he exists. That idea would lead to my faith

The Interpretation Of Woodrow Wilson
The interpretation of Woodrow Wilson (1913 21)
I have taken this from an external source to show the power of idealism, and how Woodrow was
perceived.
Wilson abandoned the imperialist policy and brought to the White House a new way of looking at
America s relations with the outside world. Wilson believed that the United States was the most
politically enlightened in a sense under god, he felt that people throughout the world had their right to
choose their own governments. Wilson was only protecting people rights to democracy.
Primary Source Analysis
6. Wilson Defends the Peace Treaty and League, 1919 (Indianapolis, Indiana September 4)
As I read in between the lines of the text it comes clear that U.S appears to be the Super country and
not only that, I believe that Woodrow Wilson is protecting the interest of countries by making them
sign a Treaty explaining them not allowed to go to war for no reason of any sort.
The text conveys the talk of economic boycott I believe what he was trying to convey was that anyone
who economically trades with a country that has started a war with a country but another country and
helps them with the economy, will be part of the country of war and will not be funded and also
isolated and cannot take their decision back.
In text 5 talks about articles of the league of Nations Covenant 1919. Article 10 to article 14, talks
about any member of league to act hostile or aggressive, is declared a matter of concern and if
becomes serious then

Weightlifting And Powerlifting
Weightlifting and powerlifting may sound the same, but they are not as similar as many people think.
Apart from weightlifting being an Olympic sport and powerlifting just being a past time with multiple
federations, there are many technical differences. Weightlifting and powerlifting have different
movements, require different amounts of flexibility, and the weight is held differently. Weightlifting
involves more complicated movements while powerlifting has a variety of simpler movements. In
weightlifting, there is the snatch and clean jerk. In the snatch the weight is pulled all the way over the
head in one smooth movement while simultaneously dropping into an overhead squat (Smith par. 23).
Then standing and dropping the weight to the ground. In the clean weight is taken to the shoulders
while dropping into a front squat (Smith par. 7 9). Then standing and jerking the weight (bringing the
weight over the head and putting one leg forward and one leg back). After the legs are pulled back into
a standing position the weight is dropped. In powerlifting there is the back squat, bench, strict curl,
and deadlift. In the back squat the weight is on the back and the legs are bent to at least 90 degrees
before coming back to the standing position and putting the weight back on the rack. In the bench the
lifter lays on a bench and lifts the weight off of a rack, then brings the weight down to the chest and
pauses for a one second count before pushing the weight back up and racking

Portage River Observation
On October 3, 2017 the 7th grade, team odyssey went on a trip to William Henry Harrison Park to
observe the Portage River and the ecosystems around it. There the 7th grade team observed the the
water quality of the Portage River. The 7th grade team used chemical, physical, and biological
indicators to observe the quality of the Portage River. The 7th graders took a nature hike and observed
the nature around the Portage River. There, a nature expert talked about invasive species, seed
distribution, and plants. When the water rises the seed pods come off of plants and float on the water,
the seeds then are carried to new places. The 7th graders talked about how the monarchs are declining
because of the lack of milkweed. They also talked about plants like goldenrod and poison ivy. Around
the Portage River there are habitats like prairies, forests, and floodplains. Plants in the riparian zone
help to filter the water before it goes into the river. The 7th graders also studied biological indicators.

They observed the clarity of the water, dissolved oxygen, pH, run, pool, riffle, odor, depth, and
substrate. The clarity of the water was 71cm which means the clarity of the water is fine because 71cm
is in the middle of the turbidity tube. The amount dissolved oxygen is 12 which is the best amount of
D.O. The pH was 8 which means the water quality is good. The odor was musky. The depth of the run
was 22cm. The substrate was rocky which is good because the rocks filter the water. All of this data
leads you to the conclusion that the Portage River has excellent water quality. The field trip was
educational and informational. I would like to thank the BGMS staff and nature experts for making
this trip possible. Outdoor education is important because we need to know how to help, protect, and
restore our rivers. Field trips are important because they give you information and education with a

A Presidential Election Essay
2016 marks the year of a presidential election and to the larger population the president creates an
image power in the government. He/she is a figurehead and the deciding signature to all legislation
passed by Congress. Though Congress is complicated and now a days doesn t seem to be getting many
bills signed into law. The people of the US still vote for these officials with the hope that these people
will represent the interest and goals of the larger population. Even if that means arguing and having
many negotiations, that s how people believe things get done in Congress. Negotiation is key along
with the tactics used in this process to even start passing or creating a bill in Congress. Both principled
negotiation tactics along with others are used to create movement depending on the situation.
Negotiation is a discussion aimed at making an agreement (Fisher, Ury, Patton, 2011, p. 10). People
use negotiation every day and in almost any situation where they want something else from someone.
Kids, for example, want more TV time so they bargain that if they do more chores they can have more
time watching TV from their parents. Adults tend to use it in their jobs when they have a contract or a
discussion about their salary with their boss. Larger groups such as unions also can negotiate for
contracts with larger companies and advocate for many people not just one. Congress needs to do this
too. They aren t only negotiating with outside entities doing constituent work

Renaming Computer Power Group
On Monday morning, December 5, 1998, Peter James, CEO and Managing Director of Computer
Power Group (CPG), a leader in the Australian IT education and services industry, was reflecting on
the results of the recent Brand Visioning offsite code named Project Horizon. He was satisfied with
the future plan they had created for the brand, including an articulation of the brand purpose and
values, a clear statement of branding objectives, and a brand architecture that effectively unified
brands in the portfolio (see Exhibits 1 2). James was relieved that the team decided that they should

CPTI (Computer Power Technology Institute) and CPAS (Computer Power Advanced Systems
Institute), the individual training brands, would merge and become Interim Individual Training or a
variant thereof. However, many senior managers at the offsite were hesitant to consolidate individual
brands under a single sub brand umbrella, thus abandoning equities that the firm had invested in over
the years. James remained convinced that the benefits of scale would outweigh the equity lost in
abandoning the existing names. He arranged a meeting involving the General Managers of each of the
four current education subbrands, and Melissa Richardson, Strategy Innovation Partner from Galileo,
the brand development consultancy that had been working with CPG on their brand initiative from the
start. James started the meeting. As you all know, I am seriously considering sub branding the
individual and corporate education brands under the Interim corporate umbrella. He turned to Mike
Clugston, the General Manager of CPTI. Mike, I understand from your comments at the visioning
offsite that you are not comfortable with this course of action. What would you recommend? Well,
began Clugston, I agree that there are benefits that can be realized by integrating our brand names
with others in the company. I understand your position, but if we introduce new brand

on call to come in no matter what hour it is. Being on call may sound terrible, but the hospital is
required to pay overtime if called in, and up to eight dollars an hour for just having a phone on. Many
surgical technicians say this is the most thrilling part of the job. Most surgical technicians work full

Ph Levels Lab Report Essay
The relatively close pH levels of Tap Water, Spring Water,
Flavored Water, and Seltzer Water.
Introduction
This experiment was performed to investigate the following hypothesis: The following four different
types of drinking water (spring water, seltzer water, tap water, and flavored water) we test will
relatively have the same pH level.
Our group decided to test different types of drinking water to see if a pH level of tap water is
comparable to other types of water. Many people believe that city water has many chemicals, causing
us to form the expirement to see how close the different types of drinking water s pH levels are.

We then moved the electrode in one of the beakers of water we wanted to test. We measured the pH
level, recorded it, then placed it back into the clean water it was orignally in. We repeated these steps
for each of the different type of drinking water.
The control treatment in our expirement was thr red cabbage indicator. The dependent variable is the
pH of the water. The independent variable is the different types of drinking water ( tap water, spring
water, seltzer water, and flavored water). The standard variables in the expirement are the clean test
tubes, the clean pipettes, the Paraflim, the pH tester, and the pH levels pH 2, pH 4, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8,
pH 10, and pH 12.
Results
Table 1 shows the standard of the standard of the expirement. It is used to compare the color of the red
cabbage expirement to form an educated guess on the pH level of the different types of water. Table 2
shows the pH numbers we got from the red cabbage expirement and from the pH tester. This
informations enables to compare the red cabbage and the pH tester numbers in order to prove the red
cabbages accuaracy, and to prove our hypothesis that all of the pH numbers of the different types of
drinking water are relatively close.

On earth there is garbage piled up as high as skyscrapers because of the nonchalant attitude that humans had during their time on the planet. That it is the film s way of critiquing pollution and is also a warning to us that one day if we continue to pollute our planet only bad things are going to happen. • 3. The Theme Of American Pastoral By Philip Roth Human beings strived for a better life since the beginning. Mankind witnessed a never ending race for happiness, wealth, power and superiority. Many revolutions changed the course of history and became watershed events having great impact on the human life. While some of the ideas lived on, some of the ideas were short lived. American Dream was one of such ideas which laid the foundation for the making of United States of America. The Statue of Liberty itself symbolizes the idea of the Great American Dream. The celebrated idea of American Dream had tremendous impact on the entire nation and influenced each and every individual in some way or the other. In fact, it became a significant subject in the course of history and played a quintessential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pastoral was initially originated by the Greek poet Theocritus and the Latin poet Virgil, who wrote poems about the shepherds ( pastor is Latin for shepherd ). In Shostak s book Philip Roth: American Pastoral, The Human Stain, The Plot Against America, the traditional pastoral is described as: a deliberate conventional poem expressing an urban poet s nostalgic image of the peace and simplicity of the life of the shepherds and other rural folk in idealized natural settings (qtd. in. Shostak 34). In American Pastoral, Roth presents the story of Levovs, an American family, who in search of the American dream, gain wealth and success, but suffers from heartache and pain due to the adverse situations. In a way, it is similar to the story of Job in the Holy Bible, in which Job s life moves from one phase to another, from poverty to riches, and then back to the former. The novel consciously alludes to Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost, both thematically and formally, with the Jewish post war acquisition and loss of an American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. ##ymbolism And Guilt In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara... People face difficult and life altering challenges every day. Some of the bad times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guilt differently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor, it is stated that rain can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. Nelson told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced. The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to have allusions throughout the story. Allusions bring the theme across because it helps the readers to see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment to make them feel guilty for something wrong they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Happiness Cannot Be Taken Away Joseph sits in his alleyway as the parade goes by. He slumps back as the entire city celebrates an opportunity that won t affect him. The city was celebrating a day that came once every hundred years. They current royalty would pass down their crown to one person in their capitol. The winner of the drawing that would take place would step up as the new royalty. Every citizen of the capitol received one ticket, and richer citizens could purchase more if they wanted to which usually caused them to win. However, the winner must perform a task chosen by the current royalty which, if failed, would cause the winner to lose his prize and the current king or queen to would pass down royalty to their family for another century. Joseph decided he might as well experience the festivities that take place at the drawing since it only came around every century. So, he got up off his back and slowly walked to the courtyard. He looked to his sides curiously and whistled. An old dog with fleas and some left over lunchmeat in his mouth came running to his aid. He never gave a dog a name he just called him dog and when he wanted dog he would just whistle and dog would follow him wherever Joseph needed some company. Joseph and dog were in the courtyard where they had to practically fight their way through to see what was going on. Joseph grabbed as much of the free food that was being served as he could and gave some of it to his dog. Joseph couldn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On Lingua Franca This paper looks at the aspects of a lingua franca and its role in societies. Also, the adaptation of other languages vocabulary and usage into the English language, and how English has impacted vocabulary and grammar structures on other languages. Furthermore, it talks about the effects on minority languages due to the continuous spread and dominance of English. Later, it touches upon some positive aspects that it has brought into modern day life across the globe. English as a Lingua Franca Over centuries, the English language has evolved from the roots of other ancient languages including: Latin, the Germanic languages, French, even Greek. Their influences are clear to see in its vocabulary and spoken dialects, which have also adopted words into its lexicon. Most of the aforementioned have their complexities, causing difficulties for students and scholars to learn as second languages. However, English is a much simpler language to comprehend due to its limited inflections and familiarity of spoken and written words. Thus, it has become the lingua franca for people around the world and is taught in the classrooms of most non native speaking countries. • 7. Anger In A Doll s House Anger is perhaps not well understood because it is omnipresent; anger is so familiar that we assume we know what it is. Anger may be partly physiological, cognitive and psychological, yet it is also deeply ideological. Anger can be manifested in art or literature as a communal sensation towards social, political or economical conditions. (Sue J. 6) It is wise to direct your anger towards problems not people; to focus your energies on answers not excuses, said William Arthur Ward (Ward 24), and so much can be said for the authors, dramatists and novelists, in the modern era who attempted, through their writings, to crack the shell that is the literary restrictions on writing, and expressed their anger toward all their surroundings. Both involved non realistic styles of acting, staging, and language, with expressionism concentrating on using unusual technical devices to project the interior states of characters. Surrealist drama, including the work of Eugene Ionesco, is an outgrowth of Expressionism, but no longer presumes internal coherence and follows the illogic of dream states or random occurrences. Another group of plays focused on social and political critique, in the case of Berthold Brecht combined with techniques of alienation (which emphasize the unreal nature of the play) to force the audience to think critically rather than empathetically. After the World War I western mostly lost its separate literary identity and more internationally unified. Realism, naturalism and symbolism continued to dominate the plays. In English drama John Galsworthy s plays are considered to be plays of naturalism. Another important movement in early 20th century drama was expressionism. They tried to depict the dehumanizing aspects of 20th century technological life. Even though we cannot find much playwrights of expressionism in English other western writers followed this. Gender stereotypes reflect percievers observations of what people do in daily life (Eagly and Steffan, 1984) and remain if perceivers continue to observe a certain group engaged in specific activities, which then turn into assumptions that the group is able to perform such tasks. When it comes to gender roles, Heilman (2001) suggests that there are two roles that either gender can possess, agentic or communal. Agentic behaviour is usually associated with men, and portrays the idea of being achievement orientated and taking charge (Solomon, Bamossy, Askegaard, and Hogg, 2013). Additionally, leadership and manager attributes such as, problem solving, risk taking, and being active are associated with an agentic, masculine figure (Heilman, 2001). Women, on the other hand, show communal attributes that are associated with care taking, helpful, and relationship orientated. Sczesny s work (2003) introduced the common assumption that managerial positions are male dominated, think manager think male , and crisis situations are associated with females (Haslam Ryan, 2007). Sex is so intertwined in our society that it pervades each facet, including television, books, advertising, and conversation. Movies like The Matrix toss in gratuitous sex because the audience nearly expects it. Thomas Hardy s The Mayor of Casterbridge, therefore, is exceptional in its lack of sexual situations. The subject of sexual motivation and its inherent ambiguity with regard to Henchard s actions is a topic that caught my attention from the very first pages of The Mayor of Casterbridge. Continually in the novel there is tension, but it is never described as sexual. Much the same, there are countless marriages during the novel but no related sexual attraction is discussed. The ... It seems that for Henchard, maturity involves a kind of assimilation of female suffering, an identification with a woman which is also an effort to come to terms with with [his] own deepest sel[f] (Showalter, 394). It is not until the end of the novel that Henchard realizes this, withdraws from society, and loses his will to live. However, his wrongdoings are not completely restricted to women. For this reason, I believe that this indicates not misdirected sexual energy, but a general lack of knowledge. Henchard s act of selling his wife had clearly been mentioned between husband and wife prior to the actual incident, but that does not mean that it was well thought out. In fact, it seems that Henchard rarely thought things out to a full extent. Selling his wife in the first place would lead me to believe that he never loved Susan at all. I married at eighteen, like the fool that I was; and this is the consequence. But a fellow never knows these little things till all chance of acting upon em is past (9). Further, this quote shows that Henchard did not even think thoroughly about marrying Susan. • 13. Food Is Cheap, At Least Compared With 4 Years Ago By Dan... Summary The article that I did was Food is Cheap, At Least compared with 4 years ago by Dan Charles. This article is about how the global food price index is going down, and has fallen to its lowest level in the last four years. It is saying that a lot of different foods are getting cheaper like grains, vegetable oils, sugar, and dairy products. So that means that CPI should decrease now since a family will be spending less money on those products. The only place where the prices are not falling is in the meat industry especially in the beef industry. That is because the supply for beef was decreased after a drought made the suppliers want to decrease the size of the herd. That in turn caused the producers of the beef to have expectations that the future was going to be bleak for them. So they decided to not spend as much in their planned investments. Now because of these past decisions; when the market rebounded it the supply was down. Another plus in the market that is currently happening in the U.S. right now is that the food industry is having harvests of corn and soybean that will break the records in the overall production and yield per acre. This has caused the grain prices to fall by almost half. This makes the producers of pork, poultry, and beef very happy. Their PPI has gone down, so they are getting their things that they need to feed their animals cheaply. Then they are selling their animals at a very high rate, higher than normal ... Also, this wasn t the first time Congress attempted this. The same article also mentions that Arizona members of congress had attempted this on behalf of the Australian British company several times, but had failed each time due to a lack of support. One of those investors was Drake himself who invested £1000 and by the time he got home his £1000 had turned into £42,000 because of the success of this expedition. On the way back to Plymouth Drake s ship, the Golden Hind, got stuck on a reef which luckily they got out of the next day. From northern California and Vancouver Island, he made his way across the Pacific Ocean, across the Indian Ocean and up the Atlantic to the final destination of Plymouth. Overall this circumnavigation of the globe truly shows that Drake was a great navigator and could truly explore all corners of the globe. • 20. Close Air Support Research Papers Close Air Support (CAS) is a complex mission due to the interaction of ground forces and airpower in short distance from the enemy. Historical examples evidenced that cultural differences and service rivalry affected the efficiency of CAS after World War II; while on the other hand, having a joint force with proper training improved its performance. The US Air Force and US Army argued about the property of the assets as the main factor limiting efficiency, conversely the Marine Corps exploited the strength of having CAS as the rationale for their air assets to optimize its procedures. However, beyond the issue of who owns the planes, the real difference is the use of proper training to integrate air and ground forces, assimilate doctrines, and exploit the new technologies. This paper presents a review of historical examples of CAS training, the problems of current training and future challenges to enable joint training under current restrictions of budgets and availability of forces. CAS was one of the main contributors to the initial success of the German blitzkrieg, and a major innovation in the use of airpower during WWII. Wartime practice in Spain allowed ... In fact he ranks both timocracy and oligarchy as favourable to democracy and maintains that only tyranny is a less preferable form of government (Plato 1955 ). John Wild believed The most serious charge against Plato from a modern point of view is that he is an enemy of democracy. (Thorson 1963) In his book the republic he describes what he perceives to be the ideal state, in so doing he lays out his criticisms of the Athenian democracy. His criticisms are as follows : inherent class tension, the pillars of equality and liberty and the ability of normal people to rule justly. Inherent class tensions appear to be a serious criticism by Plato of the democratic system. He believed ordinary citizens lack discipline and respect for authority. In contrast, in his utopian society it s the guardians, who were to be highly trained and educated, that ran government. In the athenian democracy the key to a successful political career lay in the art of oratory rather than philosophical and political knowledge. This disgusted Plato as he felt that a system should place emphasis on value and merit rather than place it on unconditional equality which led to less knowledgeable people coming to power. He believes everything in nature is part of a hierarchy, and that nature is ideally a vast harmony, a cosmic symphony ,(Plato 1955) unlike in a democracy a state should be like nature where people are ranked according to their aptitudes, and definitively placed in the social hierarchy (Plato 1955) not all made ... The modern day radio is a perfect hybrid between these two extravagant things. Of course, many inventions are to be thanked for leading the way to this timeless possession, and the same can be said about the radio itself. Still used today, the applications are endless. Before we knew what to do with radio waves, a fast form of communication over long distances was to use a telegraph. • 23. The No Child Left Behind Act Of 2001 ( Nclb ) The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is a United States Act of Congress that is a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which included Title I, the government s flagship aid program for disadvantaged students. No Child Left behind was enacted with the intent to become a government aid program for disadvantaged students, and eventually raise the general education standards for the United States. This act was created with the idea to close the achievement gap with accountability, flexibility, and choice, so that no child is left behind (ESEA) to put most simply. The act serves to only require certain basic skills, but does not have any national achievement standards, as it is decided on by each individual state. The bill was signed into effect by George W. Bush in January of 2002. Many people, opposers and supporters alike, argue that it is a one size fits all approach to education and teaching that puts too much emphasis on testing and doesn t fund schools properly, making it nearly impossible to achieve success. The law was initially designed to introduce national standards to a system in which students in some demographic groups were more likely to succeed and others likely to be left behind. But it allows states to determine how success is measured, which could be the source of its downfall. The problems with NCLB seem to be endless. The biggest, and most easily solved, is the lack of a plan. NCLB was enacted with several goals: All ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. My View On The Existence Of God It was the night before the last day of our Faith Reason class and I had previously been tasked with finding a specific topic to argue for. I decided to cover the idea of my own faith and how it copes with the multiple viewpoints varying from atheists, theists, and the Bible as well as the opinions on reason and the very existence of God. Within this paper, I will explain why my faith is eternal and no matter how much evidence there is against the existence of God, my conviction that there is a supreme being who oversees all that goes on in this world, will continue to avail. The first reading that really drew my attention was Flew s example of the gardener and the believer s stance that the gardener existed. This triggered my thoughts to relate that case to my own faith and how I am able to retain my belief that God exists, against the deposition that he does not. No matter how many tests the Sceptic requested to prove that there was a gardener, the Believer maintained his faith until his belief that there was a gardener was basically useless. Flew eventually got to the point where he described the Sceptic asking, Just how does what you call an invisible, intangible, eternally elusive gardener differ from an imaginary gardener or even from no gardener at all? (Flew, 298) I relate Flew s example to my own case of how an atheist could possibly ask me how God exists if he is not ever seen and there is no real proof that he exists. That idea would lead to my faith ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wilson abandoned the imperialist policy and brought to the White House a new way of looking at America s relations with the outside world. Wilson believed that the United States was the most politically enlightened in a sense under god, he felt that people throughout the world had their right to choose their own governments. Wilson was only protecting people rights to democracy. Primary Source Analysis 6. Wilson Defends the Peace Treaty and League, 1919 (Indianapolis, Indiana September 4) As I read in between the lines of the text it comes clear that U.S appears to be the Super country and not only that, I believe that Woodrow Wilson is protecting the interest of countries by making them sign a Treaty explaining them not allowed to go to war for no reason of any sort. The text conveys the talk of economic boycott I believe what he was trying to convey was that anyone who economically trades with a country that has started a war with a country but another country and helps them with the economy, will be part of the country of war and will not be funded and also isolated and cannot take their decision back. • 28. Weightlifting And Powerlifting Weightlifting and powerlifting may sound the same, but they are not as similar as many people think. Apart from weightlifting being an Olympic sport and powerlifting just being a past time with multiple federations, there are many technical differences. Weightlifting and powerlifting have different movements, require different amounts of flexibility, and the weight is held differently. Weightlifting involves more complicated movements while powerlifting has a variety of simpler movements. In weightlifting, there is the snatch and clean jerk. In the snatch the weight is pulled all the way over the head in one smooth movement while simultaneously dropping into an overhead squat (Smith par. 23). Then standing and dropping the weight to the ground. In the clean weight is taken to the shoulders while dropping into a front squat (Smith par. 7 9). Then standing and jerking the weight (bringing the weight over the head and putting one leg forward and one leg back). After the legs are pulled back into a standing position the weight is dropped. In powerlifting there is the back squat, bench, strict curl, and deadlift. In the back squat the weight is on the back and the legs are bent to at least 90 degrees before coming back to the standing position and putting the weight back on the rack. In the bench the lifter lays on a bench and lifts the weight off of a rack, then brings the weight down to the chest and pauses for a one second count before pushing the weight back up and racking ... The 7th graders took a nature hike and observed the nature around the Portage River. There, a nature expert talked about invasive species, seed distribution, and plants. When the water rises the seed pods come off of plants and float on the water, the seeds then are carried to new places. The 7th graders talked about how the monarchs are declining because of the lack of milkweed. They also talked about plants like goldenrod and poison ivy. He/she is a figurehead and the deciding signature to all legislation passed by Congress. Though Congress is complicated and now a days doesn t seem to be getting many bills signed into law. The people of the US still vote for these officials with the hope that these people will represent the interest and goals of the larger population. Even if that means arguing and having many negotiations, that s how people believe things get done in Congress. Negotiation is key along with the tactics used in this process to even start passing or creating a bill in Congress. Both principled negotiation tactics along with others are used to create movement depending on the situation. Negotiation is a discussion aimed at making an agreement (Fisher, Ury, Patton, 2011, p. 10). People use negotiation every day and in almost any situation where they want something else from someone. Kids, for example, want more TV time so they bargain that if they do more chores they can have more time watching TV from their parents. Adults tend to use it in their jobs when they have a contract or a discussion about their salary with their boss. Larger groups such as unions also can negotiate for contracts with larger companies and advocate for many people not just one. Congress needs to do this too.
