Parents Should Be A Good Parent
Through the entire interview process, four of the eleven participants, two males, one was in the
younger age group and the other was in the older age group, and two females, again with one from
each group, explicitly said what my research has explained: children raised by gay parents learn to
become more open towards others than children raised by straight parents. All of the participants gave
answers that aligned with my research on the kind of parent a child needs and what a healthy
household consists of. Each contributor believed that love and support, as well as a handful of other
qualities leads to a well developed child. The handful of qualities mentioned by informants were:
stable, mature, and responsible. Informants believe a parent should be someone who is capable of
caring for someone else. No one mentioned a single thing about the sexual orientation required to be a
good parent; society does not take sexual orientation into consideration when describing who could be
a good parent.
To contrast what I found in researching to what I found informants had to say, two interviewees
depicted gay parenting as not the norm , or not normal in today s society , both from the younger age
group, one female and one male. Moreover, men tended to suppose that a child having gay parents
will be predisposed to gay tendencies and will therefore become confused with their sexual orientation
or may lean towards more gay tendencies . Of all the men who thought this, two of them

What Reason Does The Bible Give For Its Commands About...
Most of God s prophets and chosen people, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses are all at some
point immigrants in a foreign.
Why does God call some of these chosen people to leave their home/families to go to a foreign land?
God asks the Israelites to love immigrants and take them as their own people
God protects Immigrants
Why does God go to the extent of making laws against mistreating immigrants?
Why are the punishments for mistreating immigrants so severe?
Question 2
An immigrant is an individual who leaves his/her land of origin and settles in a foreign land usually
due to circumstances like war, famine, exile in search of a better life. From Genesis 12 onward God
either commands or creates circumstances that drive his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph are examples of people who experienced being immigrants.
However God seems to have a purpose for driving each of them from their homes. One reason for
making them foreigners is for God to build their characters. God asks Abraham to leave his home to
go a foreign land so he can turn him into the man known to many as the father of all nations .Moses is
exiled from Egypt into the wilderness for 40 years where God prepares him to be the man to bring the
people of Israel out of Egypt. According to the Anchor Bible dictionary scholars refer to a sojourner as
a person who occupies a position between that of his native born and foreign land .This Sojourner
lacks the means and protection a person would normally in their native land have . Perhaps one of the
reason God drives his chosen people out of their homes to a foreign land is to put them in a situation
where they would have to depend entirely on God to protect and provide for them. Such circumstances
not only help develop character but help the people of Israel develop a stronger relationship with

Geography Of Congo Essay
Country overview
Central of Africa, northeast of Angola there is country that once was called ZAIRE . It wasn t changed
until the President Laurent Desire Kabila has overthrown Joseph Desire Mobutu and name it back to
the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 1997. Congo became independent back in 1960 with of
other East African neighbor countries like Rwanda and Burundi. As reported in the World Fact book
of CIA, DRC has over 200 African ethnic of which the majority of them are Bantu. Their largest tribes
are Mongo, Luba, and Kongo and all of them are Bantu, and they have Mangbetu Azande (Hamitic)

Due to large scale demonstrations and civil unrest around the country, people are slowing down
visiting DRC. The U.S. Department of the State has advised people of armed groups in North and
South Kivu. DRC travel advisory said advised people to not travel to eastern Congo and the tree Kasai
provinces due to violent crimes, such as sexual assault, robbery, and armed home invasion. This
makes it harder for transportation as many the demonstrations continue due to government conflicts. It
is reported that people are destroying roads and vehicles, which makes transportation for tourists even
harder. Drivers afraid of driving their cars because they scare of losing their cars. For instance, the
New York Times reported the killing of the two United Nations expert in the DRC (Steve, Jina, 2017).
The experts, Michael Sharp an American, and Zaida Catalan were investigators on crimes associated
with a rebellion group in central Kasai. Another challenge to the country is poverty. The DRC is one
of the countries that poverty is causing crimes. Due to the big number of population, the DRC has not
been figuring out the way to kick out or reduce the poverty level. As reported by writer Phil Sylvester
of World Nomads, the DRC is not a safe place to travel to alone. He said that robbery and vehicle thief
happens more during Christmas and New Year. Many sectors and areas have water problems and have
diseases caused such as cholera, diarrhea, and many water borne diseases. The east of the country is
the poorest areas of the country. Malnutrition is a problem as people are trying to reach the next day.
Healthcare is another issue around the DRC because they are poorly staffed. The reason behind this, is
that the health care system collapsed during conflicts. Even though all those issues that affects tourism
in the country, I think the country still have ways to recover

Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor s Poem, Huswifery
Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor s Poem, Huswifery
In the poem, Huswifery, by Edward Taylor, a very severe shift seems to take place. The poem begins
with an analogy between the writer and a spinning wheel. However, at the end of the poem suddenly
he is no longer the spinning wheel, he is now a man wearing the cloth that was spun by the spinning
wheel. How could the main analogy of the poem shift so drastically? Actually, upon closer inspection,
the shift does not seem so bizarre. The main idea of the poem is followed through from beginning to
end. It is the story of a man who is truly devoted to the Lord and how his relationship with the Lord
evolves from the point where he is seeking God in his life to the point where he has found ... Show

The yarn is fine. Going along with the fabric = heart analogy, this would seem to indicate that he
wants the Lord to pull together the pieces of his heart, bring together all of his thoughts and affections
and focus them into one beautiful creation. The The yarn is fine. part of the line displays a feeling of
fragility. He does not believe that he is capable of shaping his heart himself, and this is why he must
hand it over to the Lord. In his mind, if he tries to do it on his own, the pieces will most likely break
(since the yarn is thin) and he will be just another tattered rag thrown by the wayside, not usable for its
intended purpose.
Once he has been completely woven, and all the essentials of a God serving heart are completed, he
then goes on to ask of the Lord that He not just leave him plain and dull. He wants to be dyed with
heavenly colors choice. and pinked with varnished flowers of paradise. A garment that has been
woven and is left plain is very functional for the owner of that garment, but will not be beautiful or
attractive to others. No one else will feel a great desire to have a similar one for themselves. One
possible interpretation of this point is to think that the author is now turning away from God and
seeking his own glory, asking that others be envious of him. However, this would not fall in line with
the very humble, God serving attitude displayed throughout each of the stanzas. It seems more likely
that he desires

The plot of the story is set on the planet Zebes, featuring the main character Samus Aran in her clash

On the other hand enemies such as the Space Pirates, Kraid, Ridley and the Mother Brain are
programed to perform a small selection of up, down and side to side to movements with the exception
of some basic skills and animations. Kraid for example, is a muscular, slow moving hybrid with
animations that signify a tank. The spinning claws and projectiles are launched from his back and
stomach area which replicate the barrel of a tank. Ridley is a slim and slippery space dragon which has
the ability to fly and to propel a burst of fireballs. In the original Metroid he is capable of dodging
attacks from Samus with the use of flying. In contrast to this, the Mother Brain displays the animation
of a pulsating mechanical brain with an immense amount of flowing energy without the access of
limbs. This indicates that it has imposing authority. To summarises this, many of the characters in
Metroid have the ability to convey an emotion with the use of different animations. The way they are
presented resembles the identity of realistic objects.
In conclusion, the art style of Metroid embodies the futuristic and sci fi theory of outer world life. For
the early 80 s, Metroid helped video games to progress into the mainstream media due to its vibrant

Descriptive Essay On A Haunted House
When I walked into the haunted house to explore it. The old porch was creaking I was shaking. As I
walked it the door slammed behind me. I got scared tried to open the door there was no budge. I ran to
the back door of the house it was looked too there was no way I was getting out. I thought to myself

I decided to look around the house and see what it was like. There were four bedrooms, two
bathrooms, A kitchen, living room, and a den. I just figured out there was a up and a down stairs. I
decided to be brave and take a look up stairs. As I walked up the stairs the stairs creaked as i was

Pavlov was a well known surgeon in Europe. In his early years he wanted to become a priest but
discovered Charles Darwin whom changed his life. With his new calling in science, Pavlov began to
work with animals especially dogs. He was fascinated by dogs and even gave them names. Johnson
states that Pavlov felt the need to save the dogs from being slaughter for foods or hunted for personal
reasons. In his most remarkable experiment, Pavlov used a bell to train the dogs to salivate. Naturally,
dogs salivate when they eat to help them swallow food. This is known as the unconditioned response
because it is happening automatically. A few trials later, the dog associates the ringing bell with food.
This is known as the conditioned stimulus because the dog finally learned to associate the ring of the
bell with food. Unconditioned stimulus happens when the dog salivates from eating. From now on
every time the bell rings, the dog thought it was going to get food because that is what the dog has
become used to. Immediately, the dog begins salivating by just hearing the ringing bell whether the
dog saw any food or not. This is called a conditioned response, because the dog salivates by learning
to associate the bell ringing with food. Pavlov simply studied reflexes, automatic behavior that is
caused by a stimulus from the environment. According to Johnson, during the experiment Pavlov
rarely used the bell. Later in his life, Pavlov was giving an album with all the photographs of his dogs
by his students. Also in 1935, he was honored with a statue called a monument to a dog. On top of the
statue there was a water fountain which symbolizes the dog

The romantic comedy movie Sex and the City was centered on four main characters. The story was
told in the point of view of the main character, Carrie Bradshaw. For the purpose of the concept

Some people stopped growing years ago. We might not bury them until they have stopped moving, but
they really died years ago. You can change your attitude. When we refuse to change and resist God s
leading, life can become pretty miserable. Nevertheless, many times we won t change until the pain of
remaining the same becomes greater than the pain of changing.
Failure is not when you get knocked down. Failure is when you refuse to get back up. Don t hang
around the swamps of despair. They will only skew you attitude and impede your resilience. Learn to
bounce back quickly.
Our attitude will either protect us or defeat us in the midst of storms. Let us develop our attitude well.
Train your eyes to see what is good was emphasized on the third chapter of the book. All our lives, we
have trained our eyes to see what is bad. From an early age, we have been training ourselves
incorrectly. We get up and read the morning newspaper over breakfast, getting our minimum daily
requirement of bad news. On the way to work, we stop by the newsstand and by the latest issue of a
newspaper so we can find out what s wrong with the world.
We have to retrain our eyes. The reason is this: Whatever we re looking for is what we will see. That s
how God made us. If we are looking for something good, we will see what is good. If we are always
looking for what is wrong with people, what we will see is everything that is wrong.

Examples Of The Mirabal Sisters
IN THE TIME OF THE BUTTERFLIES
The Mirabal Sisters Courage
The word courage is a prime example of the Mirabal sisters. Each of the Mirabal sisters show their
courage in different ways because some of the sisters are more courageous than the others in certain
situations. Although Minerva is more assertive and brave the other girls can get just as assertive and
brave as Minerva. I think that the Mirabal sisters are very courageous but sometimes their decisions
are crazy and it can cost them a lot of pain and suffering. Each sister is very courageous and show it in
the book in many ways but Minerva is the most assertive and courageous of the Mirabal sisters. One
example from the sisters of being courageous but it was crazy when Minerva slapped Trujillo at the

can see my hand in an endless slow motion rise like a mind all on its own down on the astonished
made up face . You would think why in the world would she slap the most powerful man in the
country? Minerva felt violated and felt like she needed to do something about it. After the incident
happened Minerva didn t know the consequence of her action. Minerva then realized that a robust

Dr. Moreau
In my third paper I would like to briefly talk about the historical and cultural context of the book, The
Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G.Wells. The book was written in 1896 as a science fiction novel, but let s
look at some of the aspects of the book and apply it to today s standards in the USA. As it turns out,
the book actually influenced the start of several animal rights groups in Europe shortly after its
release. Also, Wells had a firm belief that some of the things that happened in the book were entirely
possible and that maybe one day in the future we would see these exact experiments happen. Dr.
Moreau takes different animal species and transforms them into human like creatures. He even takes
different species and makes hybrids . A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first instances we see animal rights would be in the bible in the book of genesis where Adam is
given dominion over the fish, fowl, cattle and every creepy thing that creeps on earth and it is said that
on the seventh day of rest, the animals are supposed to rest also. Also in the bible it mentions
forbidding plowing with an ox and ass together because it would be difficult for the ass to keep up
with the powerful ox. In the 19th century we start to see more concern for animal protection whereas
before if someone was found guilty of hurting an animal it was because the animal was a piece of
property . We start to see badger baiting, bull baiting, and cock fighting start to be looked down upon
and the implementation of bans. The first ASPCA which was an animal protection group that was
founded by Henry Bergh in April 1866 would create the declaration of the rights of animals which
gave the ASPCA authority to enforce anti cruelty legislation. In the 1900 s although legislation was
passed for animal cruelty, the animals still didn t have any rights and we started to see an increase in
animal use which started to lead to more animal extinctions due to over farming. These laws came
after the book was written but I would think that this was another reason for Dr. Moreau to conduct

The Effects Of Nuclear Power On The World
Deadly source of energy
There are so many sources of energy in the world. Many of these sources are abundant in the nature
and will not be extinct from the world. Solar, wind, water are gift of the nature to the humans. We
have been using these natural resources for a long time. But, we have switched into other forms for
energy resources, especially nuclear power. Nuclear power/plants have been increasing since the last
decade. The main reason why the nuclear power has been used widely is due to their low emission of
CO2 to the environment. But, the radiation due to the nuclear power plants is much deadly than the
CO2 generated from any other sources of energy. There is no need of such deadly form of energy. We
need to close down all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Very high radiation doses can destroy body functions and lead to death within 60 days. The effects of
routine releases of radioactivity from nuclear plants depend somewhat on how the spent fuel is
handled. A typical estimate is that they may reduce our life expectancy by 15 minutes (AMASS). A
small amount of radiation can even lead to so many serious health risks it can neither be long term or
short term.. It has been proved by scientist that, if we breathe in radioactive elements for the explosion
or leaking of nuclear power station can lead to the lung cancers or sudden death due to breathing
difficulties. Studies show that people who are exposed to excess radiation had long term cancer risks

Why Was Edward III Important
Edward III was, for several centuries regarded as one of the greatest of England s medieval kings. His
long reign is seen as a kind of golden age. This research paper is about the life and significance of
Edward III, King of England from 1327 1377.
Edward III, of Windsor , King of England, eldest son of Edward II and Isabella of France, was born at
Windsor on the 13th of November 1312. During his younger years he was made Earl of Chester in
1320, and Duke of Aquitaine in 1325, but did never get the title of Prince of Wales (Luminarium).
After an unfortunate reign of his father, Edward III was able to restore national unity and pride in
England during the mid 1300. Edward was a direct descendant of Henry Plantagenet, along with all

the puppet of Isabella of France, his wife and her lover, Roger Mortimer, the Earl of March, who both
ruled England through him and planned Edward II s downfall (English Monarchs). Edward II agreed
to abdicate in favor of his 14 year old son to restore the power and prestige of the weakened England

Reflection Paper On Step
I attended the documentary, Step. It followed three high school girls that attended Baltimore
Leadership School for Young Women: Cori Grainger, Tayla Solomon, and Blessin Giraldo. The goal
of this school was for every girl to get accepted to college before graduation. Every girl succeeded, but
it was a tough journey getting there. Their Step team, Lethal Ladies, is what gave them motivation to
achieve their goal, as well as passion, drive, and discipline. It expressed the importance of having
community and having something to push you to succeed. I had no idea what Step was before I
watched this documentary. It was strange that this was such a huge part of these girls lives, yet I had
never heard of it before. Step was so crucial to who they were, giving them motivation and
determination to succeed. I realized, before, that sports teams or extracurriculars provided many
positive gains, but this documentary shed a whole new light on just how beneficial they can be.
DeMeulenaere stated, Not only do coaches inspire college aspirations in students, so do peer
relationships developed through participation in sports. This was very true for the girls on the Step
team. Step not only gave the girls a healthy way to spend their time, but it also gave them a coach that
loved them like family and a team that always had their backs. This brings up the point about how
powerful of an impact something like a Step team can be. What would the girls lives have been like if
they did not have Step? Before watching this documentary, I was blissfully unaware of the
circumstances that some of these Baltimore girls lived in. From the outside, Blessin looked like she
was succeeding in every way. She was drop dead gorgeous, captain of the Lethal Ladies, and appeared
to always be happy and bubbly, based on the outside. As the documentary progressed, what was really
going on in Blessin s life was revealed. Her mom was depressed, her grades were very unsatisfactory,
her attendance was dropping, and her family had many financial struggles. In an intimate scene of
Blessin and a young relative, she started crying because there was no food in the house. She talked
about how she could handle it, but that he was just a little boy and did

Liar s Poker Summary
Liar s Poker
Written by Michael Lewis, Liar s Poker describes his experience as a bond salesman in the Wall Street
trading firm Salomon Brothers during the decade of 1980s.
Chapter 1 Liars Poker The Game
John Gutfreund and John Meriwether were the two heavyweights of the trading firm Salomon
Brothers, former was the chairman and the CEO of the firm and was regarded as the King of the Wall
Street by the press while the latter was on the board of the firm and the King of the game, Liar s

Comparison Of Poetry And All Quiet On The Western Front
Poetry and All Quiet On the Western Front Compare and Contrast World War I, it is a part of our
history. Something that can never be changed, yet it changed everything for the people involved. It did
not only change the daily lives of people, it changed the way people thought about war. Everything
from poems to books were changed due to World War I. May Wedderburn Cannan, who was a nurse,
knew how deadly wounds were on the battlefield. During World War I, Cannan volunteered with the
Oxford Voluntary Aid Detachment and helped publish government propaganda with Clarendon Press.
She spent a month in Rouen, France in 1915 volunteering at a railway canteen for soldiers, an
experience that inspired her most famous poem, Rouen. When the Armistice was declared, Cannan
was working for MI5 in Paris. ( May Wedderburn Cannan ). Cannan wrote many poems aside from
Rouen, with one being After the War . The poem gives an insight to women of World War I and how
they longed to hear their loved one s voice. The poem tells a story about a woman who grows weary
thinking of what she and her loved one used to do together. She longs to hear his voice and is praying
for the time the country is not at war, better known as peacetime. In chapter 5 of our novel All Quiet
on the Western Front, Muller and the men discuss peacetime, and how they will spend their time after
the war. Many of the men, such as Kropp and Paul are youthful and realize they have the bare
minimum to return home to,

Smallpox Vaccine Analysis
Immunizations have lowered the morbidity rate over the course of many years. Before vaccines were
introduced, during 1900 through 1904, an average of 48,164 cases and 2528 deaths were caused by
both severe and mild forms of smallpox in the United States. After the smallpox vaccine was
introduced, the disease ceased to stop and the last case to ever be reported was in 1929. Getting
vaccinated against the smallpox actually eradicated the disease, meaning it has been wiped out. Next,
in 1951 1954, on average, 16,316 polio cases and 1879 polio deaths were reported each year. Once the
polio vaccine was introduced, less that 1000 cases were reported in 1962. As of 1991, wild type polio

In fact, life threatening diseases still exist. There have been outbreak cases in the past two years which
started in an unvaccinated community, demonstrating it is highly important to vaccinate and that
disease is still around. In 2013, the United States experienced eleven outbreaks with twenty or more
cases. In 2014, the United States experienced twenty three measles outbreaks, including 383 cases,
which by the way occurred among the unvaccinated community of Amish people in Ohio (Measles).
In 2015, again the US experienced one of its largest measles outbreak which started at Disneyland

(Measles). A majority of these people who caught the disease were unvaccinated and had no immunity
built to defend off the virus. Diseases, such as the measles, has not yet been eradicated and still

unvaccinated people in danger. Disease still exists and in order to prevent from catching anything, a

The First Commander I Will Talk About Is Heinrich Himmler
There were many leaders in the Waffen SS, such as Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Paul Hausser,
Theodor Eicke, Felix Steiner, Kurt Meyer and Joachim Peiper. And I researched the 4 leaders mainly:
Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Felix Steiner and Paul Hausser. The first commander I will talk
about is Heinrich Himmler. Figure.1 Himmler in early SS uniform
Heinrich Himmler was a ceremonial chief of the Waffen SS, a leading member of the Nazi Party, and
Himmler was the one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany and one of the persons most directly
responsible for the Holocaust. Himmler joined the party in 1923, and he was not a powerful leader at
that time. Upon the resignation of the SS leader Erhard Heiden, Himmler was assumed as a
commander of the SS by Hitler s approval, and he carried out his duties at propaganda headquaters.
His first responsibility was to organize SS participants, and over the next year, and he made the SS
force bigger, 290 men to about 3000 men. And after a few years, in 1943, Himmler became a main
architect of the Holocaust, after Hitler finally resolved to kill the Jews. Holocaust generally means a
large scale massacre, but it is also known as a large scale massacre of Jewish people in World War2.
Holocaust first became known by Himmler s speech. To summarize the Posen speech, Himmler said I
want to address here a very difficult subject, in all openness before you. It shall be addressed among
us, not in public... I am now referring to the

35% in Potoroo 1, and well over 20% in Gnarlyknots 1A even below 3000 m), but they may lack an

Other principal reservoir candidates are deltaic sandstones of the Ceduna and Platypus formations,
where porosities of up to 30% have been encountered. Locally, marine sandstones of the Tiger
Supersequence (Wigunda and Potoroo formations) also have excellent reservoir quality. Away from
regional highs, prodelta mudstone of the Wigunda Formation provides an effective seal for these
highly porous intervals. Of secondary interest are fluviolacustrine lithologies intersected within the
Loongana and lower Borda formations. Although of highly variable reservoir quality, these intervals
have poor to moderate overall porosity, mainly due to the high depth of burial. Shales of the Madura
and Toondi formations and intraformational shale of the Loongana Formation can provide adequate
seal for these potential reservoirs. Major cap rocks exist in the Borda and Neptune formations.
Excellent quality reservoir rocks have been encountered in the overlying Eucla Basin, within the
marine Wobbegong Supersequence (Pidinga Formation and Hampton Sandstone). 6.4 Timing of
Maturation and Migration Present day maturity levels, based on the constraints described above, are
shown in Figure 16. On the northern transect (Fig. 16a), the oil window is typically reached at depths
between 2.0 and 2.5 km below sea surface. Thus, along this transect, the lower Tiger Supersequence is

Aging is a process that all people alive are constantly going through everyday and every year. From
the reading Aging occurs within a social context: one s social class, education, occupation, gender, and
race will determine how one experiences adolescence or old age. In the United States until a person
reaches the age eighteen years old they are considered, to be in school and, are still seen as being a
child, and until after high school graduation or eighteen they can bee seen as a man, woman, or adult.
In different cultures a child can be considered a man or woman at a younger age. The examples I

Joseph Carens Aliens And Citizens Analysis
James Madison, fourth President of the United States, once said, America was indebted to immigration
for her settlement and prosperity . If we really think about it, everyone who is not Native American is
an immigrant (or has descended from an immigrant). In light of the prosperity of the United States
today, to which immigrants have contributed in no small amount, it is interesting to think about Joseph
Carens idea of open borders.

Looking for Answers in Looking for Richard Essay examples
Looking for Answers in Looking for Richard
Al Pacino s Looking for Richard is an unusual film. It is a documentary about the complexities of
Shakespeare, the performing of the play Richard III, and the ignorance of the average American
regarding Shakespeare. The unusual nature of the film it s similar to a filmed Cliff notes version of the
text provokes wildly different reactions from film buffs, critics, and Shakespeare purists. A perusal of
five different reviews of the film show such variant descriptors that range from Mary Brennan s
comment that the documentary is decidedly narcissistic to Edwin Jahiel s comment that the film is an
original, mesmerizing exploration. The rather wide incongruity between the reviews ... Show more

Part of the issue when perusing these reviews is to determine what the critic perceived the purpose of
Pacino s film to be. Brennan s hypothesis is that Pacino s primary objective is to find meaning in
Richard III, and the secondary objectives include creating an accessible version of the play the Mr. Joe
Average can understand, while portraying the acting process when faced with such a formidable text.
How a critic views the goals of the film directly relates to how well he or she believes Pacino achieved
these goals, so it is important to discuss them.
Dre, a Girls on Film critic, offers another similar conjecture as to what Pacino s goals for the film
were. According to the first name only Dre, the purpose of the film was to present a tribute to
Shakespeare, to explore the acting process, and to explain and portray a version of Richard III. Giving
the film the page s highest rating, it is obvious that Dre feels the film delivers on its goals.
In fact, much of Dre s words match quite closely with the reasons Pacino stated onscreen for making
the film to present Shakespeare in a more contemporary form for the average American. The popular
Girls on Film web page lives up to its name it presents twenty something young women (not
necessarily with film history degrees) discussing movies. The bright pink colors and Clearasil ads on

Essay about White People and Black Man
Crash. It is the perfect analogy of how we as a human race deal with life, people and our own
experiences. Physical characteristics and racial differences may be interpreted as two distinguishing
traits that separate us. I think it s what keeps us apart. That leaves several abstract questions that the
film Crash illustrates. What are the origins of personal prejudice? Do individual experiences fuel
standing stereotypes? Is it easier to perpetuate existing stereotypes because things will never change?
Can people battle internal struggles within their own ethnic group? What prohibits us from
overcoming these prejudices? The writers of the Crash managed to extend my viewing experience

Sandra Bullock s character made the statement about the relationship between white and black people:
If a white woman sees two black men walking towards her and turns the other way, she s a racist. Well
I got scared and didn t say anything, and the next thing I knew, I had a gun shoved in my head!
Perhaps stereotypes like that have maintained their prevalence because there are so many people that
perpetuate them. It is often believed that all young black men are destined to be thugs, criminals and
drug dealers. Additionally it is a common statistic that the majority of incarcerated males are African
American. As a young black man, it must be difficult to break free of that stereotype.
Things will never change. That attitude along with the perpetuation of existing stereotypes may be
largely responsible for negative racial longevity. Ludacris character was one of the most interesting to
me. Here was this articulate young black man that spent his life stealing cars from white people. Rap
music is the music of the oppressor, he said. It is often easier to blame others for your shortcomings
than it is to confront them head on.
On the reverse, trouble facing stereotypes can occur anywhere. They are not simply restricted to skin
tone and neighborhoods. Racial discrimination transpires through social class as well. This creates
division within the

Blenders Are Better Than Juice
Juicing has become a popular trend recently, especially with the increase in awareness about health.
However, a lot of people don t understand how to properly juice their fruits and vegetables, and
mistakenly use a blender. There is also a lot of talk about the best blender for juicing, when the truth
is, blenders are never appropriate. Blenders function in a totally different way than juicers do.
Blenders make smoothies, not juice. What s the difference between smoothies and juice? Smoothies
are mixtures made up of finely chopped fibers, pulp, and juice, all in one drink. Smoothies tend to be
on the thicker side of things and hold more calories than juice alone does. Juice, on the other hand, is

It s possible to squeeze the juice from fruits and vegetables by hand, but that is a long, time consuming
process. It s also a lot of work; you ll burn a ton of calories doing it! However, if there s no other
alternative, consider hand juicing. Otherwise, consider purchasing a juicer online. Most of them tend
to be rather inexpensive. Decent quality juicers can be bought for just $50 or so, and they produce
much better results than a blender. Remember, even if you own a high quality, very expensive blender,
it s still not going to provide you with juicing quality results; there is simply no best blender for

The Effects Of Chartist Gained Support On Economic Conditions
There is evidence within the extract to support each explanation of how chartism gained support,

Quality is the ability to produce a product with a high useful life, so that it can last longer than a

Something worth consideration is that humans are the only ones who seem to complain about the
conditions. Animals are under some stress when they get there, but soon they adapt to the new life
well. Farm animals are adaptable in this way. When animals are stressed out they won t eat or drink,
thus, the animals in factory farms aren t under a great deal stress. As for disease, antibiotics are always
plentiful.
Medicine is another subject of much dispute. Antibiotics are used frequently in livestock to treat many
illnesses. Activists find this very troubling, saying antibiotics cause antibiotic resistant strains of
pneumonia, childhood meningitis, gonorrhea, salmonella, and other serious illnesses. They also
include that, 9,000 Americans die annually from food borne illness and an estimated 80 million others

Climate Changs is Affecting Earth s Delicate Ecosystem
Climate change is a global problem that is affecting Earth s delicate ecosystem. Many problems are
present in our world today, such as starvation, flooding, heat waves, droughts and disease. These
issues are likely to worsen as climate change takes its toll. In the past, the cause of this severe climate
change was unknown. Today, it is known that manmade climate change is occurring. Scientists have
discovered that humans have had the greatest impact on the Earth s ecosystem. Human activities, such
as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, are causing the Earth to get hotter. Although humans are not
the only cause of climate change, we contribute to this world wide problem because of the actions we
take, which if affecting us now and will continue to affect us in the future. A numerous amount of
human activities contribute to emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. By burning
fossil fuels, humans are emitting a great amount of carbon dioxide into the air, which is causing the

Honor And Glory In The Iliad, By Homer
The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic poem that portrays a 9 year war between the Trojans and the Greeks.
The objective of the war was to retrieve Helen, the wife of Menelaus, from Paris, a Trojan prince, but
it resulted in a brutal, prolonged battle. The Iliad begins with the ire of Achilles who decides to sit out
of the 9 year war because he is unwilling to fight for the Agamemnon any further, as Agamemnon is,
in the eyes of Achilles, a coward who is unwilling to fight his own war. In the Greek world Honor and
Glory were essential elements in defining the worthiness of a man. Honor took form in taking the
reputation of another, and Glory took form in recognition of an accolade. Hence, In The Iliad, Homer
degrades the ideology of Honor and Glory through Achilles rejection to participate in the war.
In The Iliad, the tenet of Honor, by the recognition of accomplishments, in the Greek world is shown
through the conversations between Glaucus and Sarpedon about the 9 year war. In book 12, Sarpedon
attempts to convince Glaucus to fighting the Greeks by saying, But as it is, death is everywhere, in
more shapes than we can count, and since no mortal is immune or can escape, Let us go forward either
to give to another man or to get glory from him (12.338 342). Here Sarpedon speaks with conviction
about the common war beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Iliad Achilles was the only man who defied this convention in the Trojan war, where he chose
to sit out of the war, rather than to fight and slaughter as he always has in wars. Homer, the author of
the Iliad, chose to make Achilles a symbol of an alternative exception towards the conventions of
Honor and Glory, where Andromache, Hector s wife, also serves as a reminder

Additionally, there are even more types of Pukulan found in various forms of dance music (Abdullah,
2005). A summary of the different Pukulan specific to the Kompang Ezhar community is shown in
Figure 1 below:
Figure 1: A summary of the various types of Pukulan found in the Kompang Ezhar (Abdullah, 2005)
In Kompang, rhythm is mainly characterized by the interlocking of different parts divided within the
Kompang ensemble. Interlocking is basically done with two or more Kompangs playing
simultaneously, with one part playing the Basic beat which is usually the downbeats; another part
playing the Rhythm beat which is usually the off beats; and an additional part(s) playing the Leading
beat which is usually characterized by triplets or a syncopated rhythm that creates a unique
interlocking texture specific to the Malay Kompang musical genre (Hahril, 2010). In addition,
instrumentation is a musical element that is relatively fixed in Kompang; there is usually a group of
Kompangs playing together, and occasionally, accompanying voice.
1.3 Performance Context
In the Singaporean context, the Malay Kompang is usually seen performed at weddings and
celebratory ceremonies, or at traditional showcases. As the Kompang is usually performed in large,
open spaces, it

Alpaca Wool Research Paper
What the Warmest Winter Gear is made out of. Anyone who lives in a cold climate has gotten cold in
their winter gear. They ve tried different winter gear made out of different materials, but they always
found themselves too cold or too hot. And are wasting there money on different kinds of winter gear,
and most do not work out. What if they tried wool, synthetic, or alpaca wool, which one keeps people
the warmest in the winter?
By 4000 BC, Babylonians were wearing clothing out of crudely woven wool fabric. People soon
began to develop and maintain herds of wool bearing animals, and the wool of sheep was soon
recognized as one of the most practical to use. During the eleventh and twelfth centuries, wool trade
prospered in Europe. (Wool). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And since it s easy to weave together, they can weave it closer together making it thicker. It s
becoming a demand for its silkiness. Japan have suits made out of it and handkerchiefs. Coats and
gloves are constantly made from alpaca wool and they hold up to kids playing outside with their
sturdy but, soft fibers. Alpaca wool is not as tightly bound as wool, thus making it easier to breath
through but, is also thick enough to keep in the heat better than regular wool.
There is snow gear made out of other materials, and different materials mixed together to make
thicker, warmer, and more durable gear, like ...polybenzimidazole (PBI)/[alpha] zirconium phosphate
([alpha] Zr[(HP[O.sub.4]).sub.2] x n[H.sub.2]O, [alpha] ZrP)... (Zhang). This is what makes synthetic
a silky light weight fabric and is changed to fit the needs of the fabric. Overheating in wool is always a
problem and most people do not know about Alpaca wool, most people use down coast and are just
right. Synthetic fibres are less expensive than down and is far more resistant to moisture but, gram for

Identity In The Bluest Eye
To capture an event and immortalize it. The perfect way to show others the truth, to make them
understand. Stories can be redeeming, adventurous, beautiful, but one can never rest comfortably in
any one version of what happens. Stories are as likely to distort the truth as they are to reveal it. Our
perception can be blurred by the pain being felt or clouded by the love being shared. Everyone wishes
to live out a fairytale ending, but what if the story doesn t have a happy ending? What if the
immortalized moments are the ones that need to be forgotten? In Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye, the
theme that love and racial identity are attached to one being perceived as beautiful leads to a
destructive and poisonous overemphasis on beauty.

Fulfillment of a wish may be even more tragic than the wish impulse itself, the wish to see things as
differently as one wants to be seen. The connection between how one is seen and what one sees has a
uniquely tragic outcome for Pecola. She is a symbol of the black community s self hatred and belief in
their own ugliness. Because she is black she may have a chance at being loved, but because she is a
scapegoat and must carry all of their problems, she destroys herself and can redeem no chance at
being loved. Her ugliness makes them feel beautiful. Her suffering makes them feel lucky. Her
internalization of their self hatred being forced upon her pushes her to the brink of insanity. Forced
furthur and furthur into her fantasy world, which is her only defense against the pain, Pecola uses that
pain to escape reality and make herself disappear. She goes mad believing that her wish has been
granted and she has blue eyes, but her fate is far worse than death as she is offered no release. Pecola s
wandering at the edge of town haunts the community, reminding them of the ugliness and hatred they

I Am More Enthusiastic About Service Learning
Volunteering has improved my life by gradually making a difference in my perspective of service
learning. Bringing vision to my eyes, the ability to assist others in need is a feeling only describable if,
and only if, you have experienced it yourself. Opening new doors in this journey of life, only can
ecological service learning provides you with the keys to getting connected with the communities.
Before, I stood as an individual who considered that I was not able to do anything on my own. I
pointed fingers and judged at those organizations that weren t quick to construct the changing society
wanted to see. I failed to realize that organizations take countless effort in having a task done in a
particular way, for a specific interval, which is the reason why service learning is a challenge. My
increase in motivation about work is impacting my daily life. I am more enthusiastic about my work
and am inspired by other leaders who take a charge in making accomplishment on a day to day basis.
Learning to communicate and work with others has enhanced my self assurance and my dedication in
volunteering is passionate. I am excited to share with others about my experience and explain why
volunteers matter so deeply to the community. Offered training for the suitable role, given clear,
specific roles, and often compensated for the volunteer work has made it easier for me to step up and
get to work with other volunteers who are reliable. All of us work as a team. The hardest part

Co-Op Memo
How are you? The following is my weekly update and some final thoughts about the co op at MRC
Medical Communications. I was asked to design a poster for a barbecue that the Church of the
Assumption is holding in September. I have attached my design below. Since Susan has not been in so
far this week, Dave her husband, has had me edit and correct Case Studies, which is not my field of
expertise. He was actually quite rude when I didn t catch a grammar mistake. It has been a very tense
week at MRC Medical Communications and I miss doing graphic design work. Unfortunately, at this
point I am looking forward to the end of the co op next week. I wanted to share some input as an

Before I began at MRC Medical Communications, both Eileen Quaglino and I tried to get Susan to
say whether the co op was paid or not. Susan Rector did not return my emails or Eileen s calls. Just as
a footnote to this subject, I have since done some research and have learned that unpaid interns in a for
profit environment need to have an agreement in the beginning before the co op begins, as to the
conditions and obligations on both parts. Also regarding the start date, she was very last minute and
not very communicative. I had to track her down for the start date. Therefore, the form that I filled out
for the co op was not as complete as I would have liked it to be, but it was like pulling teeth. Also
important to note that getting the initial agreement back to Ramapo in time from Susan also required
several calls and emails from both myself and Eileen Quaglino. Future interns need to know that they
need to stay on top of Susan or Dave for Ramapo forms or anything else they might need. I had to

The Corrupting Views Of Hamilton And Jefferson
Power can corrupt people, especially the people that hold it. Hamilton and Jefferson, two founding
fathers of the country with very different ideas. The two were friends, but politics got in the way.
Hamilton wanted an industrial and urbanized society while Jefferson wanted a rural and agricultural
one. So the question is, whose views were better?
Some time after the war when America got its independence, everyone decided that Washington
should be president. When Washington took the oath he asked four people to be his Cabinet members.
They were: Alexander Hamilton (Secretary of Treasury), Thomas Jefferson (Secretary of State), Henry
Knox (Secretary of War), and Edmund Randolph (Attorney General).
Washington knew that Hamilton and Jefferson weren t so close, but ... Show more content on

Jefferson obviously didn t like the plan. He left the job because he saw that the Treasury Department
(Hamilton) had more power in forming the government. He also saw that Washington was taking more
of Hamilton s side.
The rivalry continued into personal life. Jefferson started accusing Hamilton of being a traitor and said
that he wanted monarchy back. Washington then said back that Hamilton s plan would work. Jefferson
replied saying Washington was weakened by age. Jefferson soon found out about Hamilton s affair
with Maria Reynolds, a married woman wanting money. When he decided to tell everyone about the
affair, Hamilton accused him of hypocrisy, most likely referring to the well known and proven rumors
of Jefferson s affair with his slave.
Speaking of slavery, Jefferson owned around 175 slaves with one whom he had an affair with. He sold
his slaves to punish them and he bought wine and other luxurious goods with the money. Destroying
families didn t bother Jefferson, says Paul Finkelman, a professor at Albany Law School, because he
believed blacks lacked basic human emotions. In short, he didn t care cause he thought they didn t

Why Bees Are Disappearing And The Effect On The World
Abstract
The purpose of this report was to determine why bees are disappearing and the effect on the world if
they disappeared, like pesticides and fungicides role in their disappearance, the role Colony Collapse
Disorder has on their disappearance, the knock on effect on pollination, the knock on effect on crops,
can anything take up their role, can humans take up their role and is life possible without bees. It was
determined that a combination of pesticides and fungicides that contaminates the bees pollen leave the
bees three time more likely to be infected by a parasite, allow not enough evidence is available some
evidence shows that a combination of factors lead to CCD where the adult bees leave the hive, the
queen, the baby bees and some worker bees this is not enough to support the hive in the long run so
they die. Insects pollination accounts for one third of the human diet of which eighty percent is done
by bees, so see a fifty percent decrease in pollination levels over twenty years could crop yields fall
dramatically. Climate change which is thought to play a big role in when the bees immerge from
hibernating through winter and loss of habitat also has an effect on how much the bees pollinate. One
in every three mouth fulls of food of the average person is directly or indirectly linked to honey bee
pollination, the effect of bees disappearing would cause plants that solely rely on bees to pollinate
them to die out, out of one hundred crops which provides nighty

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Board Games
2.6 The Disadvantages of Board Game
According to Dewar (2009, p. 15), there are many disadvantages of using board game in the
classroom. Firstly, most people play with house rules. Each board game has its own set of rules. So,
while playing students would probably use the old or normal rules to play that cause the game to last
much longer than it should be. Secondly, in board games they have player elimination. Meaning that
players who lost or are unlucky can get kicked out of the game early. Thirdly, playing board games is
too dependent on luck. Players will just have to roll dice and the number that face upwards decides
how many steps they players should go. That might lead to winning or losing of the game.
Nextly, board games doesn t scale well to the number of players. Four players seem to be ideal but it is
impossible for teachers to prepare 10 same board games for a class of 40 students. Besides that,
another disadvantage of board game is that players takes too long and 2 players is completely
pointless. This is because if 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since we are in the era full of technologies and electronic devices, it is possible for some students to
not know what is a board game. Secondly, teacher should try to attract the students understanding
about board games. Teacher can introduce the board game that she has prepared. Teacher should
briefly explain the steps of how to play the board game that she created. Next, teacher should tell the
rules and regulations of playing the board game. While board games has winning and losing, teacher
should emphasize and explain the rules in detail so that there will not be any fights or
misunderstanding while students are playing the board game. When the students are playing, teacher
should monitor and make sure that students speak during their turn. Teachers should always
emphasize that making mistakes while speaking is better than they never speak at

Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7. This was stated by Jesus Christ, the
basis for the christian faith. It is reasonable to say that acts of love don t make others kill themselves.
It is also reasonable to say that an act of love would be the nurturing of those outliers within the
community, to bring them into the fellowship that promotes better mental health. There are already
many churches working towards improving the way the church treats it s adolescence, and many
others that march along side homosexuals in movements for equality. Those working at Mental Health

  • 2. Parents Should Be A Good Parent Through the entire interview process, four of the eleven participants, two males, one was in the younger age group and the other was in the older age group, and two females, again with one from each group, explicitly said what my research has explained: children raised by gay parents learn to become more open towards others than children raised by straight parents. All of the participants gave answers that aligned with my research on the kind of parent a child needs and what a healthy household consists of. Each contributor believed that love and support, as well as a handful of other qualities leads to a well developed child. The handful of qualities mentioned by informants were: stable, mature, and responsible. Informants believe a parent should be someone who is capable of caring for someone else. No one mentioned a single thing about the sexual orientation required to be a good parent; society does not take sexual orientation into consideration when describing who could be a good parent. To contrast what I found in researching to what I found informants had to say, two interviewees depicted gay parenting as not the norm , or not normal in today s society , both from the younger age group, one female and one male. Moreover, men tended to suppose that a child having gay parents will be predisposed to gay tendencies and will therefore become confused with their sexual orientation or may lean towards more gay tendencies . Of all the men who thought this, two of them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Reason Does The Bible Give For Its Commands About... Most of God s prophets and chosen people, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses are all at some point immigrants in a foreign. Why does God call some of these chosen people to leave their home/families to go to a foreign land? God asks the Israelites to love immigrants and take them as their own people God protects Immigrants Why does God go to the extent of making laws against mistreating immigrants? Why are the punishments for mistreating immigrants so severe? Question 2 An immigrant is an individual who leaves his/her land of origin and settles in a foreign land usually due to circumstances like war, famine, exile in search of a better life. From Genesis 12 onward God either commands or creates circumstances that drive his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph are examples of people who experienced being immigrants. However God seems to have a purpose for driving each of them from their homes. One reason for making them foreigners is for God to build their characters. God asks Abraham to leave his home to go a foreign land so he can turn him into the man known to many as the father of all nations .Moses is exiled from Egypt into the wilderness for 40 years where God prepares him to be the man to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt. According to the Anchor Bible dictionary scholars refer to a sojourner as a person who occupies a position between that of his native born and foreign land .This Sojourner lacks the means and protection a person would normally in their native land have . Perhaps one of the reason God drives his chosen people out of their homes to a foreign land is to put them in a situation where they would have to depend entirely on God to protect and provide for them. Such circumstances not only help develop character but help the people of Israel develop a stronger relationship with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to large scale demonstrations and civil unrest around the country, people are slowing down visiting DRC. The U.S. Department of the State has advised people of armed groups in North and South Kivu. DRC travel advisory said advised people to not travel to eastern Congo and the tree Kasai provinces due to violent crimes, such as sexual assault, robbery, and armed home invasion. For instance, the New York Times reported the killing of the two United Nations expert in the DRC (Steve, Jina, 2017). The experts, Michael Sharp an American, and Zaida Catalan were investigators on crimes associated with a rebellion group in central Kasai. Another challenge to the country is poverty. The DRC is one of the countries that poverty is causing crimes. Due to the big number of population, the DRC has not been figuring out the way to kick out or reduce the poverty level. As reported by writer Phil Sylvester of World Nomads, the DRC is not a safe place to travel to alone. He said that robbery and vehicle thief happens more during Christmas and New Year. • 5. Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor s Poem, Huswifery Interpretive Essay on Edward Taylor s Poem, Huswifery In the poem, Huswifery, by Edward Taylor, a very severe shift seems to take place. The poem begins with an analogy between the writer and a spinning wheel. However, at the end of the poem suddenly he is no longer the spinning wheel, he is now a man wearing the cloth that was spun by the spinning wheel. How could the main analogy of the poem shift so drastically? Actually, upon closer inspection, the shift does not seem so bizarre. The main idea of the poem is followed through from beginning to end. It is the story of a man who is truly devoted to the Lord and how his relationship with the Lord evolves from the point where he is seeking God in his life to the point where he has found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The yarn is fine. Going along with the fabric = heart analogy, this would seem to indicate that he wants the Lord to pull together the pieces of his heart, bring together all of his thoughts and affections and focus them into one beautiful creation. The The yarn is fine. part of the line displays a feeling of fragility. He does not believe that he is capable of shaping his heart himself, and this is why he must hand it over to the Lord. In his mind, if he tries to do it on his own, the pieces will most likely break (since the yarn is thin) and he will be just another tattered rag thrown by the wayside, not usable for its intended purpose. Once he has been completely woven, and all the essentials of a God serving heart are completed, he then goes on to ask of the Lord that He not just leave him plain and dull. He wants to be dyed with heavenly colors choice. and pinked with varnished flowers of paradise. A garment that has been woven and is left plain is very functional for the owner of that garment, but will not be beautiful or attractive to others. No one else will feel a great desire to have a similar one for themselves. One possible interpretation of this point is to think that the author is now turning away from God and seeking his own glory, asking that others be envious of him. However, this would not fall in line with the very humble, God serving attitude displayed throughout each of the stanzas. It seems more likely that he desires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand enemies such as the Space Pirates, Kraid, Ridley and the Mother Brain are programed to perform a small selection of up, down and side to side to movements with the exception of some basic skills and animations. Kraid for example, is a muscular, slow moving hybrid with animations that signify a tank. The spinning claws and projectiles are launched from his back and stomach area which replicate the barrel of a tank. Ridley is a slim and slippery space dragon which has the ability to fly and to propel a burst of fireballs. In the original Metroid he is capable of dodging attacks from Samus with the use of flying. In contrast to this, the Mother Brain displays the animation of a pulsating mechanical brain with an immense amount of flowing energy without the access of limbs. This indicates that it has imposing authority. To summarises this, many of the characters in Metroid have the ability to convey an emotion with the use of different animations. The way they are presented resembles the identity of realistic objects. In conclusion, the art style of Metroid embodies the futuristic and sci fi theory of outer world life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pavlov was a well known surgeon in Europe. In his early years he wanted to become a priest but discovered Charles Darwin whom changed his life. With his new calling in science, Pavlov began to work with animals especially dogs. He was fascinated by dogs and even gave them names. Johnson states that Pavlov felt the need to save the dogs from being slaughter for foods or hunted for personal reasons. In his most remarkable experiment, Pavlov used a bell to train the dogs to salivate. Naturally, dogs salivate when they eat to help them swallow food. This is known as the unconditioned response because it is happening automatically. A few trials later, the dog associates the ringing bell with food. This is known as the conditioned stimulus because the dog finally learned to associate the ring of the bell with food. Unconditioned stimulus happens when the dog salivates from eating. From now on every time the bell rings, the dog thought it was going to get food because that is what the dog has become used to. Immediately, the dog begins salivating by just hearing the ringing bell whether the dog saw any food or not. This is called a conditioned response, because the dog salivates by learning to associate the bell ringing with food. Pavlov simply studied reflexes, automatic behavior that is caused by a stimulus from the environment. According to Johnson, during the experiment Pavlov rarely used the bell. Later in his life, Pavlov was giving an album with all the photographs of his dogs by his students. Also in 1935, he was honored with a statue called a monument to a dog. Our attitude will either protect us or defeat us in the midst of storms. Let us develop our attitude well. Train your eyes to see what is good was emphasized on the third chapter of the book. All our lives, we have trained our eyes to see what is bad. From an early age, we have been training ourselves incorrectly. We get up and read the morning newspaper over breakfast, getting our minimum daily requirement of bad news. On the way to work, we stop by the newsstand and by the latest issue of a newspaper so we can find out what s wrong with the world. We have to retrain our eyes. The book was written in 1896 as a science fiction novel, but let s look at some of the aspects of the book and apply it to today s standards in the USA. As it turns out, the book actually influenced the start of several animal rights groups in Europe shortly after its release. Also, Wells had a firm belief that some of the things that happened in the book were entirely possible and that maybe one day in the future we would see these exact experiments happen. The first instances we see animal rights would be in the bible in the book of genesis where Adam is given dominion over the fish, fowl, cattle and every creepy thing that creeps on earth and it is said that on the seventh day of rest, the animals are supposed to rest also. Also in the bible it mentions forbidding plowing with an ox and ass together because it would be difficult for the ass to keep up with the powerful ox. In the 19th century we start to see more concern for animal protection whereas before if someone was found guilty of hurting an animal it was because the animal was a piece of property . We start to see badger baiting, bull baiting, and cock fighting start to be looked down upon and the implementation of bans. The first ASPCA which was an animal protection group that was founded by Henry Bergh in April 1866 would create the declaration of the rights of animals which gave the ASPCA authority to enforce anti cruelty legislation. In the 1900 s although legislation was passed for animal cruelty, the animals still didn t have any rights and we started to see an increase in animal use which started to lead to more animal extinctions due to over farming. We have been using these natural resources for a long time. But, we have switched into other forms for energy resources, especially nuclear power. Nuclear power/plants have been increasing since the last decade. The main reason why the nuclear power has been used widely is due to their low emission of CO2 to the environment. It followed three high school girls that attended Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women: Cori Grainger, Tayla Solomon, and Blessin Giraldo. The goal of this school was for every girl to get accepted to college before graduation. Every girl succeeded, but it was a tough journey getting there. Their Step team, Lethal Ladies, is what gave them motivation to achieve their goal, as well as passion, drive, and discipline. It expressed the importance of having community and having something to push you to succeed. I had no idea what Step was before I watched this documentary. It was strange that this was such a huge part of these girls lives, yet I had never heard of it before. Step was so crucial to who they were, giving them motivation and determination to succeed. I realized, before, that sports teams or extracurriculars provided many positive gains, but this documentary shed a whole new light on just how beneficial they can be. DeMeulenaere stated, Not only do coaches inspire college aspirations in students, so do peer relationships developed through participation in sports. This was very true for the girls on the Step team. Step not only gave the girls a healthy way to spend their time, but it also gave them a coach that loved them like family and a team that always had their backs. This brings up the point about how powerful of an impact something like a Step team can be. What would the girls lives have been like if they did not have Step? Before watching this documentary, I was blissfully unaware of the circumstances that some of these Baltimore girls lived in. From the outside, Blessin looked like she was succeeding in every way. She was drop dead gorgeous, captain of the Lethal Ladies, and appeared to always be happy and bubbly, based on the outside. As the documentary progressed, what was really going on in Blessin s life was revealed. Her mom was depressed, her grades were very unsatisfactory, her attendance was dropping, and her family had many financial struggles. The first similarity is, Casey and David both have a problem. Losing was Casey s problem. Readers can tell the Mudville team is losing because in the poem, there was only one more inning to play and they were down by a point. Goliath, from David and Goliath , was insulting the Israelites. That was David s problem. If Casey s team lost the baseball game, his fans would probably accuse him of losing. Goliath was a problem because he was treating the Israelites with disrespect. • 39. Honor And Glory In The Iliad, By Homer The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic poem that portrays a 9 year war between the Trojans and the Greeks. The objective of the war was to retrieve Helen, the wife of Menelaus, from Paris, a Trojan prince, but it resulted in a brutal, prolonged battle. The Iliad begins with the ire of Achilles who decides to sit out of the 9 year war because he is unwilling to fight for the Agamemnon any further, as Agamemnon is, in the eyes of Achilles, a coward who is unwilling to fight his own war. In the Greek world Honor and Glory were essential elements in defining the worthiness of a man. Honor took form in taking the reputation of another, and Glory took form in recognition of an accolade. Hence, In The Iliad, Homer degrades the ideology of Honor and Glory through Achilles rejection to participate in the war. In The Iliad, the tenet of Honor, by the recognition of accomplishments, in the Greek world is shown through the conversations between Glaucus and Sarpedon about the 9 year war. In book 12, Sarpedon attempts to convince Glaucus to fighting the Greeks by saying, But as it is, death is everywhere, in more shapes than we can count, and since no mortal is immune or can escape, Let us go forward either to give to another man or to get glory from him (12.338 342).
