2. Analysis Of Las Meninas
Las Meninas RLR
Jonathon Brown uses more of a historical approach to Las Meninas and reflects on
the artist intentions instead of the painting itself. He of course describes the
Characters and tells the reader that Antonio Palomino could identify pretty much
all the characters since 1724. He says the foreground the child Margarita Maria,
Next to her are two maids of honor, or the meninas. One meninan is Maria Agustina
Sarmiento, who is giving a glass of water to the princess. The other maid is Isabel
de Velasco. In the middle ground, we see Marcela de Ulloa he has an unidentified
bodyguard next to him. To the right corner of the painting are Mari Barbola and
Nicolas Pertusato they are the dwarfs. There is a large canvas to the left and the
painter is behind it. In the mirror in the back of the painting shows the King and
Queen, it is King Philip IV and Mariana of Austria. There is an open door in the
painting were Jose de Nieto is standing, that is the aposenrador of the queen (Brown,
88).
Now Jonathon Brown thinks the setting and characters do not have much importance
on what the painting really means. Of course, he says that the painting is to show
respect to the Court and the King and Queen and show just how important they but
this cannot tell us much about the painting itself. The painting is to show the artist
himself as noble as the people of the court as well. It s trying to depict a picture that
shows the value of the artist himself royal epiphany (Brown, 92) all
3. Compare And Contrast Ancient Greek Culture
Cultures Contrasted Different cultures have their own ideas of how we as humans
came into being. Two of those cultures are the Greeks and the people in the ancient
near east. Their accounts of the creation of humans differ in some aspects, but are
similar in others. The Ancient Greeks had different myths to explain the creation of
mortal humans. However, in most of them, the creation of humans is an afterthought.
It is possible that some Greeks thought Zeuscreated humans, while others thought
Prometheus created them. Then there is the Five Ages of Hesiod which implies that
humans were in existence during the reign of Cronus, before his son Zeus overthrew
him. In the myth of the Sacrifice at Mecone, Prometheus tricked Zeus into choosing
the worst part of the sacrificial animal for the gods. Zeus, in Hesiod s Theogony,
planned in his vengeful spirit a terrible future for mortal men, one they could never
evade. Zeus then has Hephaestus fashion the first mortal woman and gives her,
Pandora, to Prometheus brother Epimetheus as a curse for humankind. The lack of a
central, widely accepted creation myth shows how unimportant the creation of
humans was to the Greeks. In the Enuma Elish, an ancient near eastern creation
myth, there were two gods, Marduk and Tiamat who fought for power. Marduk killed
Tiamat and used half her body to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the Greeks, humans were just an afterthought, but for the Babylonians, humans
were created to serve the gods. The Greeks believed humans were simply made
from the earth by either Prometheus or Zeus, while the Babylonians believed that
humans were made from divine material, the bodies of gods. Though the
Babylonians believed humans were partly divine, they were only created to serve the
gods. The Greeks also gave humans little importance and seem to have been created
for no particular
4. A Career as a Hotel Manager
General Manager Being a Hotel General Manager would be my ideal job in the
Lodging Industry. To get the that point of being a General Manager would take
years of working in the hotel industry as well as having the proper education to
preform the job. My plan of action would be to start out as a check in agent or a front
desk associate at a hotel. This would give me experience in working with guests and
with numbers, knowledge every General Manager needs. Working at the front desk
initially would give me a good idea what each department in the hotel does, and
perhaps I would move on to another job in the hotel just to gain more experience. A
good General Manager needs to know how everything in the hotel functions.
Job Description
A hotel manager is responsible for the day to day management of a hotel and its staff.
They have commercial accountability for budgeting and financial management,
planning, organizing and directing all hotel services, including front of house
(reception, concierge, reservations), food and beverage operations, and housekeeping
(ACGAS, 2012).
Typical Work Day Work activities can vary on the size and accommodations
available at the hotel. In bigger hotels there will be many departments, all with a
department manager. In the mornings most General Managers and department
managers will have a meeting so everyone is on the same page for the day. This can
include as many of the departments as the General Manager sees fit. In small hotels

On October 19th, 1781, British General Charles Cornwallis surrenders 8,000
British soldiers and seamen to French and American forces lead by General
George Washington at Yorktown, Virginia, ending the American Revolution. In the
past, Cornwallis had driven General George Washington s Patriot forces out of
New Jersey in 1776, and led his Redcoats in victory over General Horatio Gates and
the Patriots at Camden, South Carolina, in 1780. His following invasion of North
Carolina was less successful, however, and in April 1781, he led his weary and
battered troops toward the Virginia coast, where he could maintain seaborne lines of
communication with the large British army of General Henry Clinton in New York
City. After conducting a series of
6. Essay about Solar System
Solar System
Humans live on a small planet in a tiny part of a vast universe. This part of the
universe is called the solar system, and is dominated by a single brilliant star the sun.
The solar system is the earth s neighbourhood and the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the Earth s neighbours. They all have
the same stars in the sky and orbit the same sun.
Scientists believe the solar system began about 5 billion years ago, perhaps when a
nearby star exploded and caused a large cloud of dust and gas to collapse in on
itself. The hot, central part of the cloud became the sun, while some smaller pieces
formed around it and became the planets. Other fragments became asteroids and
comets, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Future manned expeditions could melt the ice into water, for drinking, washing and

Earth
If you approached the Solar System from space, one planet would stand out as very
odd. The third world from the sun is brightly coloured, in shades of mainly blue, with
patches of red and green, and constantly shifting patterns of white cloud. And it has an
unusually large moon; which by contrast is dull and uniformly brown.
The perfect planet
Come closer, and you find blue is liquid water. This is the only rocky planet with
water. Test the atmosphere, and again this planet is unique: the air contains a lot of
reactive gas oxygen. And finally, take a closer look at the green areas. Here there is
ample vegetation and animal life. This is the only planet in the solar system
obviously inhabited life forms.
The earth is special mainly because it is located at the perfect distance from the
sun. The temperature here is just right for water to exist as a liquid: get in as close
Venus and the water just boils away as steam, while as far out as the orbit of Mars
water is frozen to ice.
Soon after the birth of earth, it was a very different place from the one we know today.
Its air was made of the unbreathable and
7. Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable...
ABSTRACT
Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical
procedures. Major advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology
have created opportunity for quantitative analyses of medical images and provided
powerful techniques to probe the structure, pathology and function of the human
body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually extract the desired regions
that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is subjected to
manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The
problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely
used method for clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into
K number of clusters. In this method, clusters are predefined which is highly
dependent on the initial identification of elements representing the clusters well.
Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the clustering process
such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster
representation.

8. The Progression Of Succession Through Facilitation And...
Abstract To collect data on the primary succession as new sand dunes form from the
waters of Lake Michigan. To examine hypotheses relating to the progression of
succession through facilitation and other species interactions and to examine how
biotic and abiotic rigor change through time as succession proceeds. To further
examine these concepts, we have gathered and conducted five tests. Our first
experiment dealt with soildevelopment, to show how soil changes and developments
have advanced throughout the dunes. A second experiment has been taken to show
the variations in diversity among the five dunes. The third was to examine percent
coverage amongst stages to see how the species are influenced by their environment.
A fourth to examine the proportions of grasses and forbs to understand the properties
of grasses on late succession. Last, we examined how counts of focal species change
with duneage among herbaceous species and woody species.
Results show that organic material increased among different stages of succession.
When measuring diversity, by the Simpson diversity index, D value in which it
accounted for individual s richness and abundance (evenness). With this, the results
have shown an increase in diversity as each dune goes further back in age. With
percent coverage, results conclude and show that there is an irregular percent
coverage when we have moved along the dunes. Outcomes for the fourth test have
indicated a decrease in grasses to forbs as the dunes
9. I T Thou Relationship
premise that human existence may be characterized by the way in which one
engages with all one encounters, including other humans, the world in general, and
God (Buber, 1958). A subject to subject relation, or the I Thou relationship, (as
opposed to the subject to object relation, or the I It relationship) is the essential
experience of reality (Buber, 1958). The I Thou relationship involves an awareness of
unity between subjects. It is an experience of mutuality. Indeed, when a subject either
chooses, or is chosen to enter into an I Thou relation, they are recognizing, or are
being recognized for their entire being and are thus being drawn into community. But
what exactly is community? In our individualistic society,... Show more content on

True community, however, is a rare occurrence which may be more easily defined
by looking first at what is not community. In his article What s really killing the
church, Samuel Wells (2013) tells the story of an elderly woman choosing to
return to the church of her youth after an absence of many decades. When asked
what took her away from the church, the woman reveals that a former pastor denied
her the right to be married in the church because a work accident had left her
without a wedding ring finger (Wells, 2013). It is easy to dismiss this outrageous
story as an incident too rare to provide insight. The essence of the event, however, is
all too common amongst groups purporting to be communities, such as churches.
People are excluded for a myriad of reasons from sexual orientation, to marital
status, to doubt. Exclusivity is the enemy of community (Peck,1987). WHAT ARE
SPIRIT AND COMMUNITY? 9 Exclusivity can happen in two ways. One can
exclude others and one can exclude
10. Analysis Of The Movie The Dark Knight
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain (The
Dark Knight). There is a certain monstrosity that lives inside of everyone, and all it
takes is a particular situation to highlight this truth. Monstrosity destroys the
categories that humans tend to place objects and people into. When one contemplates
what classifies as monstrous, many immediately consider biological categories that a
monster might shatter. Nevertheless, a monster s actions can also lead to a fracturing
of categorization, such as in The Dark Knight(2008) when Gotham s district attorney
Harvey Dent becomes the villainous Two Face. Throughout the movie, Dent evolves
from a symbol of hope and justice, to a vengeful anarchist determined... Show more

The most obvious instance of monstrosity is Dent s appearance once becoming
Two Face. While Dent survived an explosion, his appearance would never be the
same. Due to this event, Dent was reborn as Two Face. Half of his face remained
unchanged from the explosion, however the other half was burned beyond
recognition. In the scene where Dent s new appearance is revealed, the viewer at
first cannot see the maimed side of his face. As he becomes more irritated with
Gordon, however, he turns his face and the monstrous side of him is revealed. This
categorical contamination is an example of someone who is both alive and dead.
Dent is, quite literally, half alive and half dead in appearance. On one side, he
looks like a completely healthy, normal person, just as he was before the accident.
Nevertheless, the other side of his face is charred and the skin is torn from his
muscles. He is no longer capable of being the Face of Gotham. Appearance is not
the only feature in which Dent is both alive and dead. While still physically alive,
this is only so that he can fulfill his quest for vengeance. While the death of Rachel
destroys the person he was, it also creates a new reason for the monstrous form of
him to survive. His one mission is to find every person in any way attached to
Rachel s death and hold them responsible in his own twisted version of fairness.
Dent s metaphorical death of the good person he once was,

he Vietnam War was an extension of Cold War An Ideological conflict between
Capitalism and Communism (1965 1975)The US joined the war to stop the spreading
of Communism( didn t want Russia to gain more allies as they had in Cold War) ,
under the Domino effect theory (first developed under the presidency of Dwight
Eisenhower) applying this theory to South East Asia it argued that if South Vietnam
was taken by communists, then the other countries in the region such as Laos,
Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia and Indonesia, would follow. The United
States of America s intention to stop the domino effect in Vietnam failed as in 1975
North Vietnamese forces marched into Saigon. However communism itself did not
spread throughout the rest of South east Asia.
After World War 1 the United States of America established itself as a formidable
opponent and a world power, World War 2 confirmed the superiority of the United
States military and the unstoppable patriotism of its people, Cold War showed that the
government could negotiate peacefully instead of directly waging yet another
conflict. The main problem that led to the Vietnam War and the United states of

of war to South Vietnam. The U.S. would strengthen the South Vietnam army so they
could fight without direct help from the U.S. This would allow American troops to
gradually come home. Vietnamization would also set up a self sufficient South
Vietnam government. Nixon s initiatives showed U.S. action in a positive way and

12. The Death Of Honesty William Damon Summary
William Damon s essay The Death of Honesty outlines many human interactions that
are touched by dishonesty on a regular basis in today s culture. The scope of
dishonesty encompasses everyone in civilization from the ordinary person, to the
professionals and up to the politicians and leaders. Damon points out that, in the
former days, honesty was an essential virtue that was well preached and practiced.
Today it is merely a fabrication of facts structured to suit one s own personal
preference in order to achieve desired results. There will be chaos and anarchy
without a certain degree of honesty throughout society. Predominantly speaking,
society (as a whole) believes that honesty establishes a level of trust and from this
standpoint, society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Damon suggests that Honesty is the character virtue most closely linked to every
school s academic mission (par. 14) but moves on to explain that the educators within
the school system are failing in their responsibility to convey to students the
importance of honesty as a practical and ethical virtue (par. 14). Damon s research on
the issue of dishonesty in schools revealed it is not only the student that is known to
cheat; it is also the teachers themselves cheating. Damon makes his point clearly with
the statement; some teachers have actually encouraged students to cheat (par. 16).
Damon describes the change in society s attitude today towards accountability when
students (and teachers) are caught cheating. The suggestion that it is the teacher s
fault sets the parameters of the roles for addressing the issues of honesty in the
school system. To substantiate this suggestion, Damon incorporates an observation
by an educational writer, who held that it was the teacher who was immoral for
having given the students such a burdensome assignment... (par. 17). Damon moves
on to state in July 2011, a widely reported cheating scandal erupted in school
systems (par. 19) and goes on to validate the claim of cheating by teachers by
describing a culture of fear and intimidation that prevented many teachers from
speaking out (par. 18). Damon s research also confirms that it is not an isolated
incident (par. 20) and incorporates more findings of dishonesty in the educational
culture into his essay. Teaching the value of honesty to children, which is part of the
development of moral and emotional strength, should be emphasized within the
education system. The quality of honesty helps to develop character and solid self
esteem within each of the
13. Validation In The Canterbury Tales Essay
One of the main forces behind humanity s drive to be a good person is validation.
Religion is a way for people to become better and receive validation from others. In
Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer writes about a large group of
people on a pilgrimage, who keep themselves occupied by telling stories to each
other. The Canterbury Talesshows how many different kinds of people find
validation through religion. The Canterbury Tales makes it seem as though the only
reason people followed religion was to receive acceptance from others through the
Church because the characters do not take religion or Godseriously. Religious
figures on the pilgrimage, like the Friar and the Prioress, break their promises of
chastity to God constantly, yet they continue to claim they are good figures of the
Church because people think more highly of them if they are practicing
abstinence. The Prioress is not truly faithful to God, which is seen in her brooch of
shining gold; inscribed thereon/ Was, first of all, a crowned A ,/ And under, [love
conquers all], (7). The Prioress is a nun who supposedly devoted herself to God
through marriage. When a nun declares herself faithful to God, it means that she
will practice abstinence. A brooch that says love conquers all implies that the
person wearing it is someone for whom their promise to god is second to their
desire for worldly love. Likewise, the Prioress also accepts gifts from men, showing
once again that she does not take

The patient and her family including the husband remained adamant that she would
not accept blood products or a cesarean section even though it was the best option for
the survival of both the fetus and herself. She stated that she would rather die than
accept blood products. Her family contacted religious leaders who also came to the
hospital to support the patient and her family s decision of refusing blood products.
The physicians and hospital administrative personnel in a desperate attempt, tried to
get a court order to administer blood transfusions in order to save the fetus, but the
Australian law provides the pregnant woman autonomy to make decisions for herself
and her unborn fetus, and thus the hospital was unsuccessful. The patient was
admitted to the hospital and the hemoglobin and blood counts were monitored daily
and alternative therapies like intravenous Epoetin alpha and Iron was initiated.
Regrettably these therapies take time to work, and much to the distress of physicians
and other healthcare providers they watched helplessly as the blood counts continued
to fall. Within one week the hemoglobin was 2.4 g/dl and the patient went into
cardiac arrest and died along with the unborn fetus.
Why does a Jehovah s Witness refuse to accept blood transfusions? Jehovah s
Witness as a religion originated near Pittsburg, PA in the 1872 and was founded by
Charles T. Russell and is based on a literal millennialist interpretation of the Bible.

The purpose of this document is to provide an explanation for the cleanup of
abandoned or contaminated industrial sites in Maryland. These contaminated sites are
typically referred to as Brownfields or Superfund sites. A brownfield is a term used to
describe land in the United States that is under used because redevelopment is
complicated by the presence of environmental contamination.1 State entities work in
cooperation with the EPA to delegate management of brownfield cleanup programs.
Superfund sites are defined as abandoned sites that require federal action because they
pose a real threat to human health or the environment. Congress establish the
Superfund Program in 1980 to evaluate and clean up the worst sites nationwide.

The CHSEP, also is known as the State Superfund Program, administers the
assessment of properties not listed on the EPA s NPL that are suspected to be
contaminated with hazardous substances. The CHSEP monitors hazardous site
that are known or could potentially be contaminated with CHS or oil through its
Brownfield Master Inventory (BMI). Once a potential site is added to the BMI,
the CHSEP will attempt to identify the person or organization responsible for the
release of hazardous substances. If the responsible party either refused or was
unable to perform the necessary remediation work, the CHSEP will use State
general funds to conduct assessments and carry out remediation at the
contaminated site. The CHSEP also coordinates with the EPA in conducting
preliminary investigations of NPL sites. The VCP encourages eligible purchasers
and parties responsible for contamination to voluntarily clean up and redevelop
brownfield sites.4 In 1997, Governor Parris N. Glendening singed Maryland s
Brownfields Legislation (Senate Bill 340/House Bill 409) into law by, which
allowed for the establishment of the VCP and the Brownfields Revitalization

16. DES Essay
The attention on the distributed energy system (DES) has grown considerably over
the last few years. In comparison to the conventional centralized large scale power
plant, the DES shows great advantages by offering end users a diversified energy
supply, higher power efficiency, lower transmission and distribution losses and lower
pollutant emissions. DES typically is a suite of on site grid connected or stand alone
energysystem and has various types such as combined cooling, heating, and power
plant (CCHP), biomass fueled plant, solar powerplant and wind powerplant et al
[1][2]. It is widely applicable in industrial plants, commercial and resident buildings,
with energy efficiency and economic competitiveness [3].
In spite of the significant development of DES, the rational design and management
of DES, that could maximize the economic and efficient saving benefits, is still a
complex and challenge task. In order to meet end users energy demands, the DES
design requires a reasonable determination of system structure and configuration by
selecting appropriate equipment including their capacities and number. On the other
hand, the optimal management of DES is demanded, and therefore, the operating
strategies including operation status and load allocation of equipment need to be
determined.
In order to address the aforementioned task regarding the DES design and
management, mathematical modeling or simulation has been used widely to evaluate
the characteristics and

business. To be more specific, proper understanding of the social, political, legal and
economic environment helps the business in the following ways: (a) Determining
Opportunities and Threats: The interaction between the business and its environment
would identify opportunities for and threats to the business. It helps the business

The tradition of attending college has changed over the past fifty years. Previously,
college was provided to those privileged students who wanted to receive an education
beyond high school. Today this still remains the case, but now most teenagers attend
college to ensure and strengthen their future. In today s society, a collegedegree does
not even promise a successful job, but it still serves as a social norm. For some,
college is not even an option due to their financial status, and for others, the college
life does not seem to suit them. In my perspective, those who drop out, overstress,
and become overwhelmed in college become this way because they were not fully

complements this argument by saying The number of college students taking at
least one remedial course rose to 2.7 million in the 2011 2012 academic year from

Of U.S. students in a 4 year colleges, 40% take at least one remedial course, an act
associated with a higher likelihood of not completing a college degree. As more
students take remediation, fail to be retained, and enter underprepared for credit
bearing courses, investigating college readiness is increasingly important (Tierney).
All of the following articles support the idea I propose. Looking at the amount of
students taking remedial courses once they enter a post secondary institution can
show proof of the lack of preparation. Instead of building upon the knowledge they
have already gained from high school, they now have to participate in remedial
courses that will refresh the basics. Students have dreams to go to college and
unfortunately they are not prepared for what college has in store. High school and
college. Two very close transitions with very little time in between them. High school
does not become crucial until junior

agency to evaluate the progress of the city who had signed the Aalborg Commitment
towards sustainable city. The third, fourth and tenth commitments are focused on
protecting environment (renewable resource, air, water, agriculture, forest) and
reducing global problem (ICLEI, 2004). While, commitment five includes the
agreement on having strategic role for urban planning and design which include
balancing social needs (job, house, good facilities) with environment (ICLEI, 2004).
Commitment six committed on having better mobility to reduce impact of gas
emitted from transport on the environment and public health (ICLEI, 2004).
Commitment seven hints at bringing into account the citizens health by promoting
city health development planning (ICLEI, 2004). While, the eighth commitments

21. The 400 Blows Directed By Francois Truffaut
Background: This film is considered a drama film and it came out in 1959 directed
by Francois Truffaut. Francois Truffaut was a successful director, screenwriter,
producer, actor, and film critic and he also was one of the founder of the French
New Wave. The French New Wave was a movement against the traditional ways that
French Cinema had followed, most French cinema was more like literature. The 400
Blows was written by Francois Truffaut and Marcel Moussy and is looked at as one
of the best French films in cinematic history. This filmuncovers the injustices of the
treatment of juvenile offenders in France during that time. It was also written from
inspiration from Truffaut s own life. Screening Notes: Throughout this whole movie,

However, one part that I found incredible was the final scene and the
cinematography involved in order to make is as good as it was. This is when
Antoine had run away and is on the beach looking at the water. He had always
wanted to go to the sea and this was his first time. The camera angle that zoomed
into his face highlights the dramatic moment. It was almost as if Antoine was
looking directly at us thorough the camera. I decided to do some research on this
final scene and figured out that this scene was monumental for the movie, I could
understand why. The moment being captured is looked at as Antoine being between
land and sea but really being in between his past and future. This film consisted of
many interesting camera angles used to provide the audience with the best views to
keep up with Antoine. Another scene that used a great angle was when
23. John Hope Franklin s The Train From Hate
In John Hope Franklin s The Train From Hate, Franklin claims that no matter what an
oppressor inflicts upon the oppressed, the oppressed s worth is in no way diminished,
and indeed the abuse is reflected poorly back upon the oppressor. But it is not too
much to say that her observations provided a sound basis for my attitudes and
conduct from that day to this. At that early age, I had made an important journey. In
the future, I remembered that I should not waste my time or energy lamenting the
inability of some members of society to take me as I was. Instead, I would use my
energies to make me a better person and to distance myself from the perpetrators and
purveyors of hate and misunderstanding. (Franklin,1) Franklin noticed this when he
mentioned telling his mother that the conductor came off as mean and callous. His
mother, in turn, attempts to reassure him with advice that ultimately permanently
affected his thinking. Though coming from a good place, Franklin s mother s
seemingly benign advice inadvertently reinforced the ill effects of white supremacy.
The flaw in Franklin s mother s reassurance that institutional is her belief that
segregation does not inherently lead to a white person having a superiority complex.
It absolutely does. I state that having studied it and being a white person, thereby
granted white privilege for nothing other than having been born with a certain skin
color. The fact that segregation was mandated by the government reinforced that
24. How Did Emily Dickinson s Life Affect Her Poetry
Emily Dickinson went through tough conditions, depression, when writing poetry.
Her poems not only were reflected by her feelings, but about everyday subjects, like
a dream she had, something she saw in a garden, and people she came across with.
Dickinson did not write like other poets during the nineteenth century, she wrote
lyrics, poems about the inner life of thoughts and feelings. She was on the greatest
masters of the short lyric poem.
Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her parents
were Edward Dickinson and Emily Norcross. Dickon s father was a graduate of
Yale law college, he was Amherst s chief citizen and a successful lawyer. Norcross,
suffered a long term illness and needed care from her daughters. Dickinson s older
brother was William Austin and she had a younger sister when she was two, named
Lavinia Norcross, was very close to her sister and kept her company. Dickinson and
her siblings were the third generation of Dickinson s born in Amherst (Emily
Dickinson s Life). The people that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her principal at Amherst Academy, Leonard Humphrey, and a book of poetryby
Ralph Waldo Emerson inspired her to write poetry. Dickinson s poetry was
influenced by the Metaphysical poets of the seventeenth century England
(Biography.com Editors). In 1858, Dickinson made time to make clean copies of
her poems and created booklets for them. In the next seven years, she made 40
booklets, together they contained 800 poems (Emily Dickinson). Emily did not leave
any instructions for the publishing of any of her poems. Dickinson would send Susan
Dickinson, her sister in law, poems. Susan admired her poetry. Dickinson would also
send her letters, which were later burned when she passed away. Susan introduced
Samuel Bowles, publisher and editor of the influential Springfield Republican, to
Dickinson. Bowles published seven of her poems during her lifetime, without her
consent (Emily Dickinson s
25. Community Observation Report
Community service is services volunteered by individuals or an organization to
benefit a community or its institutions. My favorite community service job that I
completed was located at The Junior Achievement at the Atlanta Discovery Center.
The objective of this service was to teach children how to survive and succeed in the
world economically through the use of time, talent, cooperation, and education.
Before they came to the center students were trained by their teachers to budget
money and to spend it wisely. So when they finally arrived, a real life model was
presented to them. With the compelling volunteer and student interaction, we helped
each student understand the theory to life and also understand the differences
between needs and wants. The building was set up with different mini department
stores like Chick fil A, Publix, philanthropy shop, SunTrust bank, home/apartment
agencies, automobile shop, Belk, Kaiser Permanente, and AT T. These shops were to
help the students understand manage the differences between what they really need
and what they really want. In addition, the goal was to also help build character and
skills to make it in the fast moving real world. Before the volunteer work began the
director of the center sat us in the room and trained us, with the use of a PowerPoint
on the tasks that we would be performing. First, she assigned us a store, and some
people had to share stores because some jobs involved printing. I was assigned the

humans prayers to the gods and ancestors. These kachinas are the reincarnation of
the spiritual form returned from the clouds. Not only these dolls are hidden and
direct representations of a variety of gods, spirits, and ancestors, but also appear to
the Zuni s people in physical form singing and dancing during their various

27. Theme Of Romero In Romeo And Juliet
Romero is an interesting figure in the novel. He is the one idealized character,
consistently being described as a pure and real matador, the likes of which neither
Jake nor Montoya has seen in a long time (Hemingway, 145 46). In many ways,
Romero is the great hope in the novel. He is young and virile, too young to have
been damaged either physically or psychologically by the war, and he is entirely
dedicated to his craft. In many ways he is a foil for Jake and his friends, who are
jaded in their struggling with the events of the war, and using decadence as a coping
method. His instinctive sense of honour and purity is what draws both Jake and
Montoya to him:
Romero never made any contortions, always it was straight and pure and natural ...

No one in Pamplona appears to approve of their relationship (212), especially
Montoya who feels foreigners in general will corrupt him and is subtly but
clearing upset when he comes across Romero drinking with the others (149, 153).
While he continues to fight magnificently, the fight he gets into with Cohn over
Brett is indicators Montoya was right to worry. Even Brett seems to realize this, as
she eventually breaks it off with him, stating: ...I d have lived with him if I hadn t
seen it was bad for him and I m not going to be one of those bitches that ruins
children (212 213) in her explanation to Jake at the hotel. Her use of the word
children is another indicator of Romero s innocence. Jake himself seems to feel
guilty with his involvement in Brett s corruption of Romero. As the one who set
them up, he compromised everything that he, as a true aficionado, holds sacred.
Although Romero does not make another appearance before the end of the book, it
seems unlikely that two weeks with Brett truly corrupted him. Matadors are shown
as heroic characters dancing with death in the bullring; a war with its own precise
rules. This contrasts the messiness of the real war Jake experienced, and also serves
to emphasize Romero as a foil for the other men in the novel, who are in no way
heroic
28. The Concentration Of The Sodium Thiosulfate Raised
During...
By using the scatter plot graphs it was clear to see that as the temperature of the
sodium thiosulfate raised in the water baths the quicker the reaction occurred this is
because of collision theory.
Collision theory is the cause of all reactions between particles (atoms). For a reaction
to occur the atoms have to collide with each other. Not just collide, but collide each
other in the correct place and the correct orientation for the reaction to occur. These
atoms then need to exceed activation energy; there are certain ways to increase all
these. One of these ways is to increase the concentration of the solutions being reacted
with each other because the higher the concentration, the higher the amount of atoms
present therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By placing this against the temperature it will be able to be observed the rate of the
reaction as the temperature is going up and in this scatter plot the rate of reaction is
increasing which is where the x and y value are both increasing. This will be able
to help prove that as the temperature increases then so does the rate of the reaction.
The purpose of a reciprocal (1/t) is to be able to measure the rate of the reaction so
it s providing assurance that as the temperature of the reactants increased then so did
the rate of reaction. This is shown as the temperature increases on the reciprocal
graph then so does the reciprocal.
It was also seen by observing the scatter plots above that each of them have a line
of best fit of an exponential function. This will be able to help determine the
precision and accuracy of the scatter plots by being able to determine the distance
away the values are from the line of best fit.
Precision
When determining precision both tables have to be looked at in the tables it s how
close the data in seconds are close and then how close the temperatures are to each
other because if the temperatures are close together and then the time for the reaction
are close together then the results are precise. But if the temperatures aren t close
together but then the times are close then that means the results aren t precise or
either then that means there would be a random error

30. Self Evaluation Is Not Easy
When I think on outward appearances and the time and in some cases incredible
effort to look beautiful it oftentimes makes me wonder about the reason for all the
fuss. Yes, it is important to take care of one s exterior for as the popular saying
goes When you look good, you feel good . Millions of dollars are spent annually by
the cosmetic industry to enhance, to ensure, and to encapsulate our beauty. There
are every kind of product to hide the lines, reduce the lines, eliminate the lines, lift
the lines and some products are for imaginary lines that we really did not see until
the sales clerk told us they were there. Trying to look our best is in and of itself is a
wonderful premise however the question for this hour now becomes does our
outside match our inside? Are we putting in the same amount of effort to ensure that
our inner man is as healthy, whole and well as our outer man? Self evaluation is not
easy as it takes a measure of courage to look deep within ourselves unsure of exactly
what we may find. All that glitters is not gold however Jesuswants to help us to
uncover the dross that will allow our best selves to shine through. For when we are
at our best, we can truly live boldly, overcome courageously and trust Godfaithfully.
With empowerment we will be able to face the challenges that plague our
communities, in particularly domestic violence that claims the lives of 4,000 women
every year. Clearly our sisters are hurting; unable to look at

The author of this traveler account is Vasco da Gama himself. He was born about
1460 in Portugal and was a famous navigator for the King of Portugal. Da Gama
starts off his journal by describing his voyage to the Bay of St. Helena in 1497, also
describing himself as the Captain Major in third person. Da Gama had anchored in
the bay for eight days to clean their ships and took captive on of the natives,
feeding him and dressing him well, he was returned to land and that helped da
Gama gain entry with the other natives to their land. He describes the inhabitants
as ...tawny colored. Their food is confined to the flesh of seals, whales and
gazelles, and the roots of herbs. They are dressed in skins, and wear sheaths over
their virile members. They are armed with poles of olive wood to which a horn,
browned in the fire, is attached. Their numerous dogs resemble those of Portugal, and
bark like them. Da Gama notices the similarity of dogs in St. Helena to those of his
home country of Portugal, which I don t think he expected to see. Vasco goes on to
explain how he showed them merchandise that he brought from Portugal and all the
natives were amazed by it. The following night, da Gama is at supper and then says
that he hears shouting and sees one of his crew being chased by the natives across the
beach and quickly they depart from this bay, due to some miscommunication where
the natives started to attack them.
Many things interested da Gama and had led him to navigate all the

33. Essay On The Character Of Shylock In The Merchant Of

Shylock is the hated Jew character in The Merchant of Venice. Despite the
presence of other, minor, Jewish characters, when The Jew is mentioned, he is
instantly recognized as Shylock. The Jew accumulates several negative monikers
throughout the play, and in act four, scene one, he is referred to as: an inhuman
wretch, / uncapable of pity, void and empty / from any dram of mercy (Shakespeare
4.1.4 6), inexecrable dog (4.1.128), and a cruel devil (4.1.215). The society of Venice

While it may not have been necessary, Shylock seems as eager as the Christians for
himself to be The Jew . Until it is his livelihood at stake, Shylock relentlessly
demands a pound of Antonio s flesh, and maintains his greedy demands. It is as if
he tries to fulfill the stereotypes set by this Christian society. He seems to be asking
for the others to remember he is a Jew as he cries out my deeds upon my head!
recalling the Jews who condemned Jesus for crucifixion (4.1.204). This man has

the villainous Jew is not just something he was born into, Shylock endeavors to fulfill
the role he was presented with.
Shylock is proud to be the local Jew. He makes no apologies for fulfilling the
stereotypes, and hurls insults after he is insulted, calling Antoio a rat and a serpent
(4.1.44, 69). His praise comes from the old testament, as he compares Portia to Daniel
in her initial judgements (4.1.221). This later is echoed by Graziano when Portia s
justice is no longer in Shylock s favor, who seemingly was unaware of this character

Beijing Bio Tech (BBT) is an animal fed manufacturer in China who hired Edward
Tang of Asia Pacific Consulting Group to locate a United States supplier for feed
grade lecithin. Lecithin is produced from soybeans. China s main grains are for
human consumption, which are wheat and rice. Mr. Tang found a handful of
companies that sold lecithin in the United States, but those companies only wanted to
deal with the seller directly instead of a middleman, Mr. Tang. Therefore, Mr. Tang
contacted Bill Wright of US Fortune to help with his search. Mr. Wright reached out
to Dr. Robert Fisher at NutriNex, a lecithin producer. Dr. Fisher was enthusiastic to

Wright elected to use a letter of credit to avoid any financial burden, to collect a

However Koro, Pai s grandfather expects a male leader to lead the community as

In conclusion, the film The Whale Rider has left a strong impression on me as I have
understood the character more in depth and how the character is important in this
film through a variety of effective film techniques. I have gained a lot of
understanding through the director s messages and ways of communicating through

by offering to recruit them for his new reality show, but if they say yes will they

is so quiet and shy and Scarlett is outgoing, funny and convivial. Maybe because
they balance eachother out. Like Jane s so quiet and Scarlet is so sociable.
Therefore they just balance. Also why does Jane go out with Jesse when it s
obvious she want Braedon? My first guess is because Jesse is a movie star and
who doesn t want a movie star boyfriend. Or maybe because she mentioned to

Remember the Titans is a deeply impactful and motivation movie. Set during the
1970s when segregation and integration were hot topics, the film largely focuses
on prejudice. One of the most impactful scenes from the movie when Gerry Bertier
is laying in his hospital bed right after his life altering car accident and the only
person he wants to see is his newfound best friend Julius Campbell . At the
beginning of the movie, both boys are very unwilling to get to know each other
even the slightest bit considering the stressful time they were going through with
a newly integrated school and team (Remember the Titans, 2001). They
stereotyped the opposite race, or made generalizations about the characteristics of
the other group (King, 2010, p. 402). They took one look at each other and saw
only color and knew that they had to be enemies. However, Gerry and Julius were
able to overcome the labels that had been put on them by society and look to the
inside before they made any judgments. This scene is the most powerful scene for
me every time I watch the movie. It brings me to tears to hear Bertier say, Alice, are
you blind? Don t you see the family resemblance? That s my brother (Remember the

served from out back. This is clearly racial discrimination, and it is painfully
obvious to everybody except Sunshine that it is a bad idea to even try and go in the
restaurant. It is incredible how straightforward the owner was with his negative
attitude and actions towards people with no other justification than that it was his
restaurant and he had a right to serve whomever he wanted (King, 2010, p.

Fahim Irfa Creation of a trust
The issue to consider is whether a valid trust has been created.
Fahim has declared himself as trustee and as he owns the legal title there is no need
to transfer property.
In order to make a valid declaration of trust Fahim will need to have complied with
the three certainties set out in Knight v. Knight (1840) 3 Beav 148.
certainty of intention to create a trust.
certainty of subject matter that clearly identifies the trust property and the benefits of
the beneficiaries
certainty of the objects with clear identification of the beneficiaries.
In order to establish intention the court will assess the wording used (Re Adams and
Kensington Vestry (1884) 27 Ch D 394). Fahim has shown his intention by his words
hold on trust .
He also clearly identifies his apartment in Poole as the subject matter and that Irfa
will benefit from the entire estate once she turns 21.
The three certainties are met.
S. 53(1)(b) of the Law of Property Act 1925 states that the declaration must be
evidenced in signed writing by the person able to authorise the trust. Fahim has
written to Irfa s mother and outlined all of his intentions in the form of a letter. There
is no information on whether Fahim signed the letter thereby satisfying the
requirement.
Summary
The creation of a trust will hinge on whether Fahim signed the letter to Irfa s mother
as all other elements of creating a trust have been satisfied. If there is no signature
the property will

Abstract
This paper mainly introduces the electric vehicles made by Tesla Motors, Inc. in
many aspects, including comparisons with traditional gasoline fueled vehicles,
environmental impact, 5 years ownership cost, safety and ease of use. At last,
drawing the conclusion that for a relatively long period, choosing a Tesla electric
vehicle rather than gasoline fueled cars is a wise decision for it?s greener and more
economical. Firstly, few similarities and differences between Tesla electric cars and
traditional ones are generally compared. Then analyzing the ... Show more content on

In the last few years, Tesla Motors, Inc. is growing rapidly. Tesla has more than three
thousand employees in December, 2012. [3] And the number has been increased to
six thousand in January, 2014. However, the relatively high price of Tesla electric
cars cannot be ignored. Average customers cannot afford such a car that is priced
more that $70,000. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors, Inc., gave the opinion that
Tesla is trying to eventually offer electric vehicles that are affordable to most
consumers. [4][5] A mature model under $40,000 is expected by 2017. [6][7]
Under such cases, some research on the famous Tesla Motors, Inc. and its electric
vehicles will be conducted in the paper. The study mainly focuses on whether the
electric vehicles made by Tesla is really more environmentally friendly as what
people heard about. And will it cost too much in daily use? Although many people
assume such electric cars can pollute less, a few people have another theory that
such kind of vehicles isn?t as environmentally friendly as what people expected. In a
way, it makes sense because there are still

INTRODUCTION
According to Assael (2004, p.2), Consumer behaviour determines a firm s profitability
. Marketers have come to realize that their effectiveness in meeting consumer needs
indirectly influences their profitability. Assael(2004, p.2). So it s compulsory for
every marketer to understand the consumer behaviour otherwise they will have a
more challenging time to target a campaign that attract consumer purchase to a new
product. This report will be focusing on a married, middle age businessman in ...

According to Assail (2004), Culture is a set of socially acquired values that society
accepts as a whole and transmits to its members through language and symbols. As
a result, culture reflects a society s shared meanings and traditions . The culture
manner has to contact with the factors influencing the choice in product depending
to the kind of lifestyles and background the consumer is from so David should buy
the car which would be having all the Features which he wants and the price should
intersect his income range respectively. Secondly, majority of people working in
companies on manager posts uses the car which had these types of features in it,
because the companies are far away from their homes so they want a comfortable
drive; this shows a society s shared meaning and tradition as said by Assail 2004.
This car can also be used as a family car because it is four seated and everyone living
with the family wants to buy a four seated car because of their family members.
Another factor that can affect this consumer behaviour would be his personal
characteristics such as his personal life style, age and occupation, which can also
be expressed by (Kotler 2010). In David s case, these factors would relate firstly to
his occupation. As a Manager, he has a limited purchasing power by which price is
important factor for him, by considering this point he can t buy any car which is out
of his price
44. Capstone Of Reflection
Reflecting on the Journey
Throughout my two semesters in CommSkills 1015 and 1016, I have learned a lot,
and developed academically. The countless essays and speeches have helped me to
become a better writer, and speaker. Prior to my time in CommSkills, I would write
without a goal. I would sit down and words would go down on paper, but they never
truly accomplished the goals that I had while writing. Through attention to MAP,
attention to detail and practice I have come a long way. The Integrative Learning
Rubric is a way of measuring how well students can use the knowledge they acquire
from their studies in real life. Throughout my year in CommSkills, I have greatly
developed my ability to reflect and self assess. When I started at Virginia... Show

It is also important that you are able to see these strengths and weaknesses in aspects
of your life outside of writing papers and speeches. Once I realized why I struggled
with procrastination, I was able to take advantage of it. I knew that I would always
prefer to be doing something active so I used this knowledge to get a lot of hours
in volunteering with the Special Olympics. Instead of procrastinating by going for
a run or to the gym, I went to special olympics events on tuesdays and thursdays. I
was not required to do more than ten hours of service work for class, but once I
started I truly could not stop. I loved and still love, taking the time to support
people with disabilities, but it did not only help them. I always leave Special
Olympics events with a refreshed perspective on life. It puts into perspective both
your happiness and the daily struggles we all face. If my friends at Special Olympics
bowling can come every week with a smile on their face and put their best foot
forward, so can I. We all face our own problems in life and working with the Special
Olympics always redefines my concept of what is possible and what is
45. What Evidence Exists to Demonstrate That the American...
Television brought the brutality of the war into the comfort of the living room.
Vietnam was lost in the living rooms of America not on the battlefields of Vietnam.
(Marshall McLuhan, 1975). What evidence exists to demonstrate that the American
media coverage of the Vietnam War influenced its outcome?
There are only two comprehensive inferences that can be drawn upon when assessing
the impact and legacy of the reporting of the Vietnam War on America and its media;
the impact was enormous and its legacy unending. More than thirty years have passed
since the American military withdrew from Vietnam, and in that time, the war has
continued to permeate the cultural, and political landscape of America, impacting all

quoted by Pilger, J., (2001). p.182.) This proved to be one of the many propaganda
missions played out by the American government to convince the people of America
of the just and honourable need to go to war in Vietnam although notably during
these crucial, early stages of the war, much of America s military involvement and
activities in Vietnam went unreported in the American media and it is argued that
[the] American press was simply not interested in Vietnam (Wyatt, C., (1993), Paper
Soldiers: The American Press and the Vietnam War, p.67).
As mentioned above the American citizen s exposure and thus interest in the war in
Vietnam was limited and seemed to be distracted by more domestic issues during the
early 1960s such as the Civil Rights movement. Also, reporting in Vietnam at the time
was very restricted, with South Vietnam president Ngo Dinh Diem in strict control of
the foreign press resulting in the deportation of two reporters in 1962 Homer Bigart
of the New York Times and François Sully, a stringer
