1. Persuasive Essay On Recycling
Writing a persuasive essay on recycling can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, the
importance of recycling is well-established, and there is a plethora of information available on
the positive impact it can have on the environment. However, crafting a compelling argument
that not only persuades but also engages the reader requires careful consideration of various
aspects.
Firstly, research plays a crucial role in building a strong foundation for the essay. It's essential to
gather reliable and up-to-date information about the benefits of recycling, environmental
consequences of not recycling, and success stories from communities that have implemented
effective recycling programs. This step alone can be time-consuming, as finding credible sources
and sorting through data requires diligence.
Structuring the essay poses another challenge. A persuasive essay typically follows a clear
structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each section needs to flow
seamlessly, presenting arguments in a logical progression. Finding the right balance between
facts, statistics, and emotional appeal is essential to capture the reader's attention and maintain
their interest throughout the essay.
Additionally, addressing counterarguments is a crucial aspect of persuasive writing. Anticipating
and refuting opposing viewpoints demonstrates a thorough understanding of the topic and
enhances the credibility of the essay. This requires careful consideration of potential objections
and a thoughtful response to each.
The language used in a persuasive essay should be compelling and impactful. Crafting persuasive
and eloquent prose is an art in itself. The writer must choose words carefully to convey the
urgency and significance of the recycling issue. Striking the right tone, whether it's a call to
action, an appeal to emotions, or a presentation of hard facts, is essential for the overall
effectiveness of the essay.
In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on recycling involves extensive research, careful
structuring, addressing counterarguments, and employing persuasive language. It's a task that
requires a balance of logical reasoning and emotional appeal to effectively convince the reader of
the importance of recycling. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other

2. Hannah Baker s Poem
Receiving a shoebox with no return address began as an exciting surprise for Clay.
Filled with questions and excitement, he rushed to open it. Did they just forget to
write a return address? Was it intentional? Was it from a secret admirer? In the box,
Clay finds seven audiotapes each with a dark blue number painted in the upper right
hand corner. He does not hesitate to grab an old stereo and slide the first tapein. When
he hears Hannah s voice, he realizes listening to the tapes will not be as easy as
pressing play had been. Here was Hannah Baker whom he claims he barely knew
blaming him for her death...

They are never direct or intentional antagonists. The entire purpose of Hannah s
tape is to fight the antagonistic control that life seems to have on everyone. She
speaks about the control that rumors had over her life, and if people had been
more thoughtful about their actions, she would have ended up somewhere else
entirely. The power of one s choices, of course, can be beneficial, but in the case of
Hannah, it played the antagonist. Being trapped in the choices others have made,
Hannah feels the need for the world to collapse around her, as Clay notes (261).
This is the only way Hannah can find to free herself from the cage that others built
around her; to gain control once again, Hannah takes the power of choice for
herself. The decision to kill herself is hers and only hers, but it cannot be denied that
the decisions people make have the power to become the villain of a story caging
people and driving them towards

The United States Positioning as a World Superpower: Its Subsequent Influence in the
United Nations and Views Regarding Human Rights
America stands at this moment at the summit of the world.
Winston Churchill, 1945
As World War II came to a close, a new need for an international peacekeeping
organization became apparent in order to maintain peaceful relations among nations
in the post World War II era. The United Nations(UN) came into effect on October
24, 1945 for this very purpose and also to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights,
in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women
and of nations large and small . One of the leading organs of the UN, the Security

Ironically, even though the UN aided the U.S. into its position as a world leader
post WWII, the U.S. tends to believe that the UN is holding them back from further
developing as a prevailing Nation. This conflict between the U.S. and the UN can be
seen specifically in the events leading up to America s war on Iraq, where the U.S.
demonstrated the use of force to promote democracy as their method of improving
human rights.
The conclusion of World War II not only ended four years of bitter global warfare,
but also marked the creation of a new era for the United States. The United States
emerged out of World War II not only victorious but newly strengthened. The other
Ally powers had proven victorious as well, but were faced with much greater
losses than the United States. The United States exited the war relatively physically
unharmed, economically revived, and diplomatically reinforced. The period of the
Great Depression that had lingered over the American people for twelve years was
over. The country was stimulated by economic growth and rising prosperity. The
policies of American isolationism that had governed foreign policy for a century and
a half were coming to a close. The American people were feeling invigorated and
possessed much national self confidence. The United States came out of WWII a

4. Damn It Essay
The word damn entered the English language from the Old French word damne r
during the Middle English period and first appeared in writing in the early 14th c.
(OED s.v. damn). In Latin the word dampnДЃ re meant to damage, hurt or condemn,
which, with the suffix con , meaning together or intensive, became the French and
English word which is more or less condemn. It did not get it s current spelling until
the 16th century; before it was sometimes spelled dampne or dam before settling
down and using the familiar mn construction for the final /m/ sound. The meaning of
damn, since its move to English seems to have changed from damage to something
like condemn or punish in a legal or theological sense. Not long after, it was also...

So, if it is not a theological tern, then why does it only appear in religious texts?
This could just be a coincidence since there were a lot of these sort of books
around and many of them have survived. Also, while these texts are about religion
and worship, they were written not written for religious scholars but for common
people, and they did not yet need a new set of theological terms in English because
scholarly work was done in Latin with Latin words (Crystal 128). English was the
language of the lower classes since the Norman invasion, but by the time Cursor
Mundi was written, the French aristocracy in England had lost their original ties to
France and were beginning to speak English. These aristocrats still used many
French words for prestige, but among the lower classes, English was seen as the
right and natural language and French as the language of oppression and
foreignness (Watson 334). Cursor Mundi tries to be as English as posible, stating
to its readers that it is about the love of Englis lede, / Englis lede of Engelande (qtd.
in Watson 334) and goes on to the superiority of English over French. So we can
conclude that damn was not a theological term since the first texts it appeared in,
while religious in content, are not theological works, and, in fact, the exact opposite
is true: these works deliberately use common language. Damn must have been
thought of as an English word by the time it
5. Sports and Recreation in America
As Americans we have grown up in a cultural that is dominated by sports and
recreation. This is not a new phenomenon, as sports and recreation has been a key
part of our society nearly from the inception. This research paper will look at four
separate, but integral aspects that played an important role in the way in which
colonial people participated in sports, and recreation. The four aspects that will be
focused on are religion, social class, gender, and geographic location. I will outline
how these played a role in terms of participation, and why they did so. However, to
truly understand these concepts and their role on our society as a whole we have
to look at how our country was founded. When the first settlers came to this new
world they were not focused on creating suitable forms of recreation. They were
focused on survival, or the search for riches. Leaders like John Smith helped to
make sure settlements such as Jamestown remained in 1608, and his leadership
placed a focus on survival, and establishing a settlement in this new world, rather
than focusing on material riches, or recreation. As mentioned in American Colonies
by Louis Wright, people that came over to this new world were the same people
who enjoyed many of the liberties of life that they were provided back in England,
such as theater. However, these forms of recreation were not present among these
first settlers, as stated by Wright, The reason for the early neglect of the drama are

Threatre Review of Woman in Black
The play I will be reviewing is called the Woman in Black, adapted by Stephen
Mallatratt from the novel by Susan Hill. I viewed it on September the 17th at the
Fortune Theatre in London.
The Woman in Black is a Gothic ghost/horror story set around the Victorian period
in which Eel Marsh House surveys the windswept reaches of the salt marshes beyond
Nine Lives Causeway. Arthur Kipps (Brian Miller), a junior solicitor, is summoned
to attend the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, the house s sole inhabitant, unaware of
the tragic secrets that lie hidden behind the shuttered windows. It is not until he

Scene changes are made easier since all of the main staging stays in its position for
the whole play. This is common in a lot of plays since it saves time and makes sure
the audience doesn t lose concentration, one example of a play that does this is
Chicago . Although when I went to see blood brothers, there was a large amount of
props on stage and not many open spaces, but this was needed to effectively show
the audience where the scenes were taking place. The woman in black used a very
effective set design that made good use of the open end staging that the play was
preformed on. Other than the heavier props that stayed on all through the play, only
small hand held props were used.
The use of sound was very impressive, sudden loud noises worked brilliantly at
creating even more tension and frightening the audience. One of the props used
well was a large wicker basket; it was used to store financial documents in the
house, as a table on the train journey, and most comically as a seat on a horse and
cart, with the two passengers bouncing up and down to show the movement. Sound
effects were also used to create more realistic scenes by adding background sound,
for example in the scene between Kipps and his senior, sounds from the street could
be heard,
7. What Does The Pardoner Criticize Greed
Niccolo Machiavelli expressed, Of mankind we may say in general they are fickle,
hypocritical, and greedy of gain . Chaucer criticizes the church with the Pardoner
an evil man living by greed and hypocrisy. The Pardoner, a church head tells
members to do one thing while he goes and does the opposite. The Pardoner also
steals directly from the church believing he deserves money over the church.
Chaucer ironically criticizes the church through the Pardoner who is both
hypocritical and greedy. The Pardoner is a hypocrite he preaches on how you
should live your life, while ironically partaking in exactly what he says to avoid. And
it only gets worse he not only commits the unforgivable sins, but he is completely
open about them all. The Pardoner
8. Tecumseh Analysis
Although the war against Great Britain had been won and the colonies become
United States were free to manage themselves, there was still a heavy influence from
outside countries upon the young nation. Even internal struggles with the Native
Americans were becoming more and more prevalent. Some saw it as a test of the
nation s ability to keep peace while others more rightfully sought the declaration of
war to put an end to these apparent enemies once and for all. Still in the early stages
of self governing, the United Stateswas very dependent on a strong economy to raise
taxes and tariffs off of in order to set up the physical structure of the new government.

This train of thought was dead set on expanding and conquering the lands that they
thought rightfully belonged to the Union. This caused tensions between Native
American groups who had been on that land for much longer in addition to being
there first. Tecumseh argues to General William Henry Harrison that, this land that
was sold, and the goods that was given for it, was only done by a few, (Tecumseh s
Speech). The Native Americans believed that land was given to all peoples and was
meant to be shared, but some tribes have taken it upon themselves to sell the land to
the Americans in exchange for petty goods.
I would like to counter this in mentioning that the Native Americans are not exactly
part of the union. They follow their own systems of governing in areas that are
outside the control of the Union, while being wanted by the union. Therefore, the
Natives are not bound by the same rights as described in the Constitution and Bill of
Rights. Furthermore, it was only a matter of a few years that these peoples were
called savages. What are the chances that they have suddenly acquired their manners
and deserve to be citizens in the United States of

As in other forms of sexual abuse, sibling sexual abuse does not necessarily
involve sexual touching. The abuser may force two or more other children to
engage in sexual activity with one another. The abuser may force siblings to watch
sexual activity or a pornographic video; and the abuser may abuse siblings by
repeatedly watching them dress, shower or use the toilet when they don t want to
be watched. (Marcia burke, 2005) 1.1. WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF SIBLING
SEXUAL ABUSE? It can be very upsetting to find out that sexual abuse is
happening in your family. Sibling sexual abuse remains one of the last taboos to
be addressed by the society and as such, it is rarely discussed in the media, or even
among survivors themselves. It comes as a shock to many people that children can
present a risk to other children, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that
children (even children within families) can post a very real risk. (Leder, 1991).
Abuse situations similar to Tina s can be attributed to her mother s marriage to
John s father. Because sibling sexual abuse is often very harmful and when sexual
abuse is perpetrated by a sibling, in many ways, it is even harder to break the
silence, and there are certainly some special reasons that made Tina s abuse
especially difficult to disclose. 1.1.1 I didn t want
10. Melba Pattillo s Warriors Don T Cry
Warriors Don t Cry is a compelling memoir that chronicles the events Melba
Pattillo faced during the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock,
Arkansas. She was a pioneer during the civil right years. In 1957, Little Rock,
Arkansas, much like other parts of the country, was not a safe place for a black
teenage girl to live. Pattillo had a rough start in life. She was born on the day Pearl
Harbor was attacked, December 7, 1941. A few weeks after her birth she almost
died of an illness because a white nurse refused to care for her. Pattillo states that the
hardship surrounding her birth was proof that she had a special purpose in life that
had to be completed. In 1957, Pattillo and eight other black teenagers volunteered to

12. Royal Ideology in Ancient Israel
Royal Ideology in Ancient Israel One of the main themes present in the rise of
monarchy in Ancient Israel has to be the concept of royal ideology. Royal Ideology
is the practice of believing that the king is considered to be at the same level of
power as Yahweh, and vice versa. Throughout our studies of Ancient Israel there are
many pieces of evidence to support this idea, and it had a great influence on the
monarchal structure that developed throughout the time. Dealing with this subject
matter, focusing on Wisdom is undoubtedly one of the prime methods of being able
to interpret these Old Testament texts. One of the clearest themes to emerge when
dealing with royal ideology in Ancient Israel is the acknowledgment of the king as...

At home, the king mediated blessing and guaranteed justice. These attributes of
kingship were extensive indeed. They were finally limited, as all else in Israel s
life, only by the prime ingredient of Yahwism in all periods and expressions: no
other gods beside Yahweh. There are many different themes common on the
subject of Kingship in Israel that are highlighted throughout scholarly analysis of
the subject. Sages of the time, thought to have written Proverbs, believed that the
king was a person way beyond the normal run of things. This piece from Proverbs
30:29 31 is a prime example: Three things have an excellent bearing, and four
move with dignity: A mighty lion among the beasts, and he will not turn back from
before anything a greyhound or a he goat; and a king, his people a band of soldiers.
In the sage s judgment, lion, greyhound, he goat, and king, all four were considered
to be extraordinary, and the king, the goal of this number saying, was the most
excellent of all. Yet, however amazing or even imponderable he might be for the
sages, they were still able to affirm certain themes which were held in common with
other bodies of Israelite literature. Another expression/theme of Royal Ideology is the
expectation that the King would guarantee

When problems happen in our lives to many people think that changing our inner
appearance will resolve everything. To often people are judged by what they wear
and look like. People are losing sight of what is important in life and are too caught
up in how to be flawless and beautiful. We as a culture are made to believe that
looking beautiful is more important than anything else. The pressure from society
can force us to look perfect which is unrealistic and impossible. Instead of just
being worried with their physical appearance, people must take the time and
energy to improve their morals and values. We live in a world where we are
judged by images of what we should look like and what we fail to look like, it is
worse than ever. People are simple minded they quickly judge someone depending
on instincts, but that s the first stage of judging. Some people depend on outer
looks while others go deeper to inner looks which is much more to talk with them.
Everyone only sees you as a forecast of what you see every day. You are beautiful if
you believe in yourself. You re attractive if you feel attractive. There s a whole
world waiting for the beautiful you. If you feel like there s a flaw holding the
beautiful you back, learn to overcome it. You can call it what you want, inner
beauty, or outer beauty. Beauty is what you wake up and see in the mirror. Love of
beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art
17. The Importance Of Animals In Captivity
Animals in captivity are denied the key elements needed to mentally grow and
physically evolve as a species. Zoos are solely responsible for taking animals from
their natural habitats and placing them in small enclosures where they are not able to

are unable to provide proper habitats that replicate an animal s natural habitat, this can
lead the animalsto develop harmful diseases such as arthritis due improper climates
that are fatal to certain animals, or even neurotic diseases caused by deprivation.
Zoos are not suitable to fit the needs of wildlife, as they produce negative effects on

Outsourcing causes consumer frustration and disappointment. It is shameful for
American companies to turn their backs on the American worker just to save a little

How can outsourcing be stopped?
Many people insist that there are no clear cut ways to stop the issue of outsourcing,
while some people offer up ideas on how company s could still keep the majority of
their work in America while still outsourcing. Outsourcing has become the wise thing
to do in business now days and with these economic times, it is only going to
20. Delight In Disorder By Ben Herrick Summary
The poems Delight in Disorder by Robert Herrick and Still to be Neat by Ben
Johnson display similar themes. Both poems are written about natural beauty,
Delight in Disorder , focuses more on the careless beauty while Still to be Neat
focuses on the simplicity of natural beauty. Although these two poems are extremely
similar because of their themes they are also different. Both authors aim to unveil
the true meaning of beauty through being natural and having a balance between
disorder and order in one s appearance. In Delight in disorder , Herrick describes a
womanthat is dressed without extreme care and her detail is more enticing and
captivating than a woman who has put all their energy and effort into dressing up.
Herrick writes in lines 11 14, A careless shoestring, in whose tie I see a wild
civility; Do more bewitch me than when art is too precise in every part (766), in
these lines he is describing the elegance of the woman s imperfections. Herrick is
emphasizing in his poem that if a woman takes extreme care in her appearance it
can make her seem rigid and uptight. Herrick believes that a woman whose
appearance is disorganized comes across as easy going, and more approachable.
Ben Johnson s, Still to be Neat , the woman is described in line 9 as neatly dressed
from her hair to her makeup along with her loosely flowing clothes (767). Johnson is
describing that he prefers and natural beauty rather than the artificial beauty described
in the poem. The
21. Essay on Problems with American Education Today
According to Dudley Devlin writes that high schools education in America has three
main problems public vs. private schools, high stakes tests, and laws forcing students
to say the pledge of allegiance and take a course in U.S patriotism. In first paragraph,
he explained that high school students need to know about US history but at the same
time they need to know about other cultures because the education is becoming
narrower and students becoming less knowledge. For example, instead students learn
about America or Europe history, they need to know about Asia and Africa history. In
addition Professor Martha support his idea about the international education. Also,

at the same time. From this experience that I had, makes me I agree with author to
enhance students global knowledge. The author idea was to change education
system in high schools to be more open about other cultures than just focus in
America culture. Second, issue is the courses in the states university. Dudley says
the courses in universities around the states are focusing about America affect on
world not about other cultures. The affect of this courses in my opinion, is
American students often treated the foreign students according to the stereotype of
the country or religion. In addition, the stereotype is really a big problem that
could makes walls between American and foreign students. From experiences,
people judge me because I m wearing scarf and the stereotype about my religion
that we are terrorism. For example, one of my classmates said for me I was afraid
from you because I thought you will harm or do something bad for me because you
wearing scarf . The media increases these stereotypes, and American media has a lot
about terrorism. However, the education can change these ideas. If the education
gives students information about the other cultures history, and how the people live
there its might help to clear the misunderstanding. What did happen with me makes
me feel sad because some people still have this idea about my religion even there are

During the second week of July, 1971, Kissinger arrived in Beijing, where he heard
the words by then Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai: In our opinion, if India
continues on its present course in disregard of world opinion, it will continue to
go on recklessly. We, however, support the stand of Pakistan. This is known to the
world. If the Indians are bent on provoking such a situation, then we cannot sit idly
by. On this, Kissinger responded that China should know that the US also backs
Pakistan on this issue. Indira Gandhi, the Indian prime minister in those times
decided to tour most of the Western capitals to prove Indian stand and gain support
and sympathy for the Bengalis of East Pakistan. On November 4th and 5th she met
Nixon in Washington. Nixon straightforwardly told her that a new war in the
subcontinent was out of the question. The next day, Nixon and Kissinger assessed
the situation. Kissinger told Nixon: The Indians are bastards anyway. They are
plotting a war. On December 4, just one day after Pakistan raided Indian airfields
in Kashmir and Punjab declaring war on India, America s proxy involvement in the
war was becoming clear. Thinking that the Soviet Union might enter the war if they

During laboratory week seven of Biology 232, the experiment of peroxidase
characterization in monocot plants and dicot plants was presented to the students.
The plants students could choose from were radishes, turnips, and beets. The
stressing of the plants was to be carried out over two weeks, during the students fall
break, as the experimental procedures were to be carried out over laboratory weeks
eight and nine to identify peroxidase activity. The two taxonomic classifications of
plants are Dicotyledonae and Monocotoledonae, which were discovered in 1682
by John Ray. Dicots are identified as angiosperms with embryos of two cotyledons,
pollen with three furrows, flowering parts in multiples of four or five, netlike leaf
veins, uniform vascular bundles in the form of a ring, radicle roots, and secondary
growth. However, monocots are identified as angiosperms with an embryo of a
single cotyledon, pollen with a single furrow, flowering parts in multiples of three,

However, in this experiment, arracacha was affected by two factors instead of one:
temperature and pH. The experiment concluded that in low temperatures and high
pH, arracacha produced the highest amounts of peroxidase (Menolli 2011). To
replicate this experiment, we used a turnip plant in place of arracacha for the root
plant, and apple cider vinegar instead of 0.2M citric acid for pH variable, keeping
the environment s temperature constant between the experimental and control plant
since only one stressor variable could be chosen. Although the apple cider vinegar
has a pH of 5 while the 0.2M citric acid has a pH of 2.5, we were certain that
peroxidase production would still occur. Furthermore, we had to be cautious and
ensure not to completely kill the turnip plant, but to only stress
25. Britannia Mines Research Paper
The Britannia Mines has played such a major role in the building blocks of British
Columbia s economic development and early history. Behind the unforgotten
community that once flourished with 60,000 miners of different races and religions,
lies a rich history that captures the hearts of many who pass by one of the most
successful copper sites of its time. With that being said, the legend behind the
discovery of affluent minerals in Britannia Mines is by a doctor who was searching
for gold in the year, 1888. After many failed attempts to set up a mining industry, the
Britannia Mine and Smelting Company Ltd. took interest in this discovery and
developed operation systems and communities. The Britannia Mines in the 1920s

In the times it takes two minutes to past, could you make it out of your home?
Could your family? The American Red Cross states that it can take as few as two
minutes to become deadly, compared to the ten minutes many survey takes believed
they had (American Red Cross, 2015). When you think of everything we do to
protect our homes, families, and property with insurance, security alarms and locks,
why do we not find more home sprinklers systems? This essay hopes to highlight the
benefits of residential sprinkler systems. Firesprinklers have been around since the
late 19th century yet the technology has been slow to be adopted in residential
construction. The main reason for the slow adoption is due to strong resistance from
homebuilders

35. The Role Of Empowerment In The Crucible By Arthur
Miller
Sparknotes emphasizes the role of empowerment by stating, The witch trials
empower several characters in the play who are marginalized in Salem s society .
In fact, by empowering individuals who were previously powerless, the society (in
The Crucible) crumbles. Arthur Miller is trying to convey that absolute power
will often lead to corruption. Abigail Williams, a 17 year old Puritan girl, is a good
example of power abuse because once she realizes that an accuser can be
omnipotent, she embraces the role. To cover up that she s been dancing in the
woods, she blames Tituba, a servant, and others for her crimes. First she accuses
Tituba falsely, so she can get out of trouble. I never called him! Tituba. Tituba
(Miller 85). Tituba takes the blame for her. Abigail begins condemning anyone who
does not please her. Abigail becomes the ringleader (Staffaroni) for the other girls,
who had been caught dancing in the woods. They follow her lead and start
spouting out names of innocent people for those they wish to see jailed, like a
volcano spouts out lava. Miller uses Abigail to show the serious consequences that
can arise from a paranoid political climate. She flips the hierarchy of their society.
Abigail threatens judge Danforth, Let you be aware of Mr. Danforth think you be
so mighty that s the power of hell may not turn your wits. Beware of it (Miller 126).
With Abigail s actions Miller is trying to convey that someone gaining even a small
amount of power can corrupt

In reality, the relationship between a brother and sister is not perfect. A brother and
sister fight and tease each other. In the books by Gertrude Chandler Warner, the
relationship between a brother and sister is the complete opposite of reality.
Gertrude Chandler Warner writes about four children solving mysteries to spark
reader s imagination, as well as teach the readers how to get along with family.
Gertrude targets children as her readers, so she uses imagery that is easy enough
for kids to understand. Gertrude wrote the series of mystery books called The Box
Car Children. Gertrude Chandler Warner discovered there were no exciting and
easy books for her young students to read. She tried and succeeded to fill the
absence of fun books by creating The Box Car Children. Gertrude wrote this series
based on childhood experiences. As a child, Gertrude spent hours watching trains go

39. Doing History Summary

Chris Arndt, and Raymond M. Hyser, and The Methods and Skills of History
(2015), by Conal Furay and Michael J. Salevouris, the authors broadly discuss what
history is, as well as the kinds and uses of historical knowledge. Doing History
focuses closely on the definition of history and the variety of approaches to studying
and using historical facts. Chapter One of The Methods and Skills of History
emphasizes upon the importance of history in society, while Chapter Two is centered
on the nature of history and the task of the historian. According to Doing History, the
study of history as a whole is an interpretation of past events based on reliable
evidence. However, there can be misuse of historical facts, such as dependence on

Current events have a basis in historical fact and the practice of analyzing and acting
upon past experiences is all considered thinking historically. Without history, human
society would have no identity or base. Chapter Two begins by expressing what
Doing History has already stated on the definition of history. However, Methods and
Skills delves further into the nature of history by explain that a historian can shed
light on an event in history, but nobody can actually show exactly how things took
place during that event. All of history is naturally subject to the historian s point of
view and interpretations, therefore, the absolute fullest and truest version of history
is essentially unattainable. However, this fact does not negate the importance of
studying and understanding history, because historical fact is grounded in reliable,
factual evidence from the event. Consequently, historians must always be asking
questions and looking for the best possible answers for the ever evolving dialogue of
40. The Social Concept Of Generation
Throughout this dissertation, historic societal concept of generation is used. It
describes the generation as the aggregate of individuals who roughly share birth
years around the common period and experience similar external events within the
same time interval, which uniquely shape their values, attitudes, and preference
(Ryder, 1965: 845; Kupperschmidt, 2000: 66; Cahill and Sedrak, 2012; Costanza
et al., 2012; Venuta, 2014). Hubschmid (2013) suggests that this usage of
generation is used by business studies, including in the field of management and
leadership science, and human resource management (HRM). Parry and Urwin
(2011: 79) further reinforce that this concept of generation has become significant
in the scope of HRM, since practitioners and scholars have realised the current
situation that several assorted generations are now participating in today s labour
pool (Rump et al., 2006: 15). Additionally, as the underlying construct, it has
gained special focus because much attention has been paid to Gen Y as a
generation revolutionising the working environment (De Hauw and De Vos, 2010:
293; Hershatter and Epstein, 2010: 211). The exact definition of Gen Y varies
slightly from source to source. In different literatures, the term Generation Y is also

41. Lekythos Essays
The Lekythos
A lekythos is an ancient Greek vase made of ceramic; the plural of lekythos is
lekythoi (Reference #2). It has a narrow neck, single handle, and is tall with a small,
deep mouth (Reference #7). The lekythos was used as a flask, used to hold olive oil
and perfumes (Reference #1), and were developed in ancient Athens during the fifth
century. In Classical Athens, lekythoi were painted in white ground with figurative
scenes. White ground is a form of art used by Athenians in which they created the
vase, fired it, and then the lekythos was painted in white. The figures and scenes were
then painted on top of the white ground. This method meant that the paintings did not
last as well, but were very beautiful in their original ... Show more content on

Secondly, some lekythoi were filled with scented oils and perfumes and placed
around the body, while others were set along the approach to the grave or placed
beside the tomb (Reference #5). This was done as a part of the religious focus of
the burial ceremony, and was given as an offering. Lastly, a lekythos would often
be brought to the gravesite or tomb of the deceased after the burial. It was very
important to ancient Greeks to visit the gravesite of loved ones quite often, and
when they visited, they would bring offerings to the deceased such as fruit, a feast,
or a lekythos filled with olive oil or perfume (Reference #6).
In time, the Lekythos was developed into a much larger version of itself, being
called Huge Lekythoi . These were often left on top of a grave, or beside a tomb
opening, almost as an ancient grave marker (Reference #7). Though they would
not be inscribed with any words or the name of the deceased, they would have a
painted scene depicting the deceased, some scene from their life, or a scene
depicting a sport or activity the deceased greatly enjoyed. Many lekythoi have been
recovered and are currently housed in museums all over the world. Though many are
not in their original glory, most have been reconstructed. New lekythoi have been
made in Greece and are still used today in some small Greek communities during the
preparation of the body, and left by
42. Question1
QUESTION 1
The new distribution centre is located in an industrial area and about 12 kms from
the company s headquarters. 12 kms is approximality 7.45645 miles. Unfortunately,
the cables has not reached this area, and given the numerous obstacles to digging, it
would be prohibitively expensive to install. The only choice left here is to use the
wireless technology. But what form of wireless signal would we use? The wireless
signal would have to go through walls (eliminating infrared), be able to traverse
approximately 12kms (eliminate Bluetooth, Wireless Lans, Ultra wideband, again
infrared and ZigBee) and be able to carry a high speed signal (again eliminate
Bluetooth and ZigBee). for obvious reasons, microwave, satellite and WiMAX are ...

Advantages
. Both T 1 and Sonet (synchronous optical networks) connection Waste of bandwidth
. Single station can serve hundreds of users in WiMAX. In T 1 and Sonet each single
station represent one user.
Disadvantages
. Multiplied frequencies are used T 1 and Sonet do not use multiple frequencies
. WiMAX is very power intensive technology and requires strong electrical support
Some of the benefits of WiMAX compared to T3 over SONET connection are that
a single WiMAX station can serve hundreds of users, it has a much faster
deployment of new users comparing to wired networks, and it can reach a speed of
10 Mbps at 10 kilometers with line of site customers. It also supports Non line of
Sight customers; it is standardized, and same frequency equipment should work
together and it has short delay. Drawbacks of WiMAX are that weather conditions
like rain could interrupt the signal; other wireless equipment could cause interference,
multiplied frequencies are used, WiMAX is a very power intensive technology and
requires strong electrical support, and it has high installation and operational costs.
QUESTION 3
The equipment needed to install WiMAX includes the Wimax base station, which
consists of indoor Wimax equipments and a wimax tower. The

Oliver Twist
How does Charles Dickens represent the crimes and criminals in the novel Oliver
Twist ?
Introduction
In the novel Oliver Twist, Dickens was trying to show that the Victorian viewpoint
of crime was wrong. His novel shows that many criminals were forced to be
one(criminal) rather than being born as one. Dickens includes the condition of the
workhouses which were very basic and the work was hard and unforgiving, he
described this to set the scene of how young children coped when they were alone in
the world. He presents some criminals as innocent victims that have been pulled into
a life of crime through desperation and despair such as Oliver and Nancy, however ...

He is trying to show that although most criminals shouldn t fit into the stereotype
some do and people should be wary of them. Bill Sikes is portrayed as the real villain
in Oliver Twist, he is a thuggish criminal who is violent and often takes advantage
of others, and he chooses his life of crime and enjoys it. Like Fagin, Sikes is shows as
an animal or something that is evil and corrupted. Sikes is often described with a
heaving chest and savage resolution . This shows characteristics of an animal with
a savage nature, the language indicates that Dickens is trying to show the fact that
Bill is not only a criminal he is a mean criminal who has no compassion or thoughts
for anyone. In comparison he thinks about himself a lot, and concentrates on not
getting caught rather than what he is actually doing. When Sikes is murdering
Nancy, Dickens uses vocabulary such as dragged, hurled, and struggled; these
words imply anger and brutality. Sikes uses his violence to take control of people
and this amplifies the Victorian view of a criminal. In Sikes character Dickens is
trying to suggest that there are some vicious and dangerous criminal in London that
people should be wary of. Sikes is a leader of the criminal underworld and is helping
to trap innocent and naГЇve young

46. Australian Identit in Piper’s Son by Dominic Finch-
Mackee...
Identity. It s a broad and difficult concept. As Australians, our identity is multi
faceted, having various different expressions. One aspect of my sense of Australian
identity is masculinity and the idea of the Aussie Battler. An Aussie Battler is a man
from the working class, a person who has pride in the country they live in. An Aussie
battler is a patriarchal figure who works hard to support their family, often spending
their spare time with the family or at the pub. The Piper s Son, an Australian novel by
Melina Marchetta, reflects my sense of Australian identity through it s representation
of Australian masculinity in the depiction of Dominic Finch Mackee as the
archetypal Aussie Battler.
The Aussie Battler is a facet of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel, Dominic s heavy, and eventually unhealthy dependence on
alcohol is talked about. After the death of Joe, Dominic drinks himself to oblivion.
This display of Dominic s reliance on alcohol reflects the idea of an Aussie Battler, a
person who deals with adversity in the unconventional way of drinking alcohol
instead of talking about it.
Through characterisation, Dominic Finch Mackee can be read as a representation of
Australian masculinity through his depiction as the archetypal Aussie Battler. This
contrasts to the representation of my sense of Australian identity in First Dance, a
short story by Penelope Rowe which depicts alcohol, sexual violence and the pack
mentality as elements of Australian adolescent masculinity.
As an Australian, my sense of identity in terms of adolescent masculinity is that
there is a definite nature of sexual aggression, alcoholism and a pack like mentality.
In First Dance, my sense of identity is reflected through the characterisation of the
adolescent men. In the short story, the group of teenage boys exhibit a pack. Roy
the natural born leader of the group, keeps his boys in order and makes sure they
didn t get out of line, depriving them of attention. The rest of the group, looked up to
Roy, relying on him. This structure of the group of teenage boys likens them to a
wolf pack Roy being the alpha male with an unspoken hierarchy in the remainder of
the
