Flight 11
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, four planes were hijacked in mid flight. These planes were
hijacked by multiple terrorists, who planned to conduct suicide attacks on America. Soon after the
planes were hijacked, the first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center,
tragically killing everyone on the plane and killing hundreds on the floors of the World Trade Center.
1,402 deaths occurred in the North Tower, and 87 deaths occurred inside Flight 11 (the plane that
crashed into the North Tower.) Immediately after the first attack, NYPD and FDNY forces dispatched
units to the scene, and President George W. Bush was alerted. At the time, he was in a Florida
elementary school, reading to children. As evacuation processes happened throughout the South Tower
of the WTC, the second hijacked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to the second attack, the FAA banned all takeoffs of flights going to NYC or around the
city, and the Port Authority closed all bridges and tunnels in the NYC area. Next, President George W.
Bush gave a statement from Florida, responding to the attacks, calling them an apparent terrorist
attack on our country. Only 6 minutes after his initial statement did the third attack occur, and it was
on the Pentagon. Hijackers crashed Flight 77, the third plane, into the western side of the Pentagon,
killing 59 on board and 125 people inside the building. Consequently, the FAA grounds all flights over
or bound for the United States, and sends thousands of commercial flights and private planes to
airports in Canada and the U.S. Additionally, the White House, Capitol, and other high profile places
are evacuated as well, in case of another attack. In the late morning, passengers aboard Flight 93, the
fourth hijacked plane, are alerted of the attacks by friends and family. In response to that, they panic
and try to fight the hijackers to retake the

Summary Of Symbolism In The Cellist Of Sarajevo
The Utilization of Symbolism to Manifest a Message In literature, it is common for authors to apply
different stylistic techniques in order to assist in providing the readers with a message. This idea is
prominent in Steven Galloway s The Cellist of Sarajevo, a novel which follows the story of three
characters in the war torn city of Sarajevo. Despite the fact that the characters never meet, they are
each unified by a cellist and the song he plays for twenty two days to honour the citizens who lost
their lives while waiting in line for bread. Throughout the book, a recurring idea is that of hope for the
future of Sarajevo, which is shown through the contrast of symbols from the beginning of the novel to
the end, the cellist himself, and the adagio that the cellist plays. It is evident from the meaning created
through objects and people that Galloway is able to use symbolism to enhance the idea that a city
which once was destroyed can still be repaired. The first significant method which Galloway uses to
prove his idea is by elaborating on the idea of finding new hope for Sarajevo. By utilizing contrasting
symbols in the beginning and end of the novel, he is able to demonstrate the change from having lack
of faith for the future, to obtaining an improved ideology for the fate of the city. At the start of the
novel, Dragan, a protagonist of the story, describes the city as a peculiar shade of grey. He s not sure
where it came from, if it was always there and the war has

Southern Colonies Research Paper
One of the many beauties of the United States, is its vast history of diversity. Diversity is what built
the country. As the early settlers traveled to the New World and began to build colonies, three distinct
regions developed and took shape. The three regions were the New England/northern colonies, the
middle colonies, and the southern colonies. Each of these districts had differences in religion/culture,
government, and economy. These diverse traits built the core of each colony and directed the growth
of each and why they developed in the way they did. Religion and culture combined, create perhaps
the largest difference between the three regions. In the northern colonies, Puritanism was the
predominate influence, which brought strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although they were able to grow some crops, the soil wasn t very good and it was very rocky. Because
fur, lumber and fish were all in demand in England, they became the primary focus of the settlers and
created a source of lasting income for them. In contrast, the middle colonies had rich soil and were
able to produce food in many forms to export throughout the world. Among the crops they grew,
wheat (milled into four), made up nearly three fourths of the goods exported. Obviously, the southern
colonies looked to their plantations to produce tobacco as their main source of income. Sadly, due to
the demand of workers, slaves began being imported into the middle and southern colonies. However,

Why Is Law Enforcement Important
Law Enforcement
Angela Primiano
CRJ 201
Instructor: Donald Mason
January 13, 2012
Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal
justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights
and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their
prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct
has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an
ethical and constitutional manner. The United States Department of Justice seeks to prevent or resolve
community conflicts and tensions arising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura,
1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a
broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray
and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden
that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they
work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to
understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a
differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control
theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and
classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals.
(Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of
differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his
theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned.
Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior.
2. Criminal behavior is learned through

The Contents Of Act 1
YBAW Act 1 Gi Wook Song
The contents in Act 1 were very helpful for me. Actually, most of them have been heard before, but its
logical and scientific approach made me completely understand the significance of the brain base
theory, and encouraged me to try it. I have changed my lifestyle a lot, after I read this book. In the next
my own lists, I added my understanding and changed the order.
1. Defining actors (tasks). This is not in the book (own list), but the concept is from the book. For
more effective use of my limited brain resources, I have to define my takes that I m facing. They will
be the actors who will get on stage, and some of them will be excluded in that day or for a while if it is
not necessary and urgent. I have so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I spent more than 2 hours for searching it, and still haven t purchased it yet, and delayed many tasks. I
have so many things to finish in this weekend, and it was just a simple decision making. It was urgent,
and it was not so significant money to my life, so it didn t matter whatever I chose. I should have
simplified it and focused on the important things.
3. Group information into chunks whenever you have too much information.
This method is helpful for the next step. Even I finish defining my tasks and simplifying information,
sometimes it is still confusing. After creating chunks for my tasks and grouping them, I can easily set
the priorities. Usually my hunks are; school assignments, projects , school preparation for exams ,
family affairs , church affairs , and financial management .
4. Prioritize prioritizing, as it s an energy intensive activity.
I usually prioritize my tasks with following orders; Import and urgent , urgent but not important ,
important but not urgent , and neither important and urgent . Once I decide the order for
implementation, I try to focus only on the highest priority that I haven t finished.
5. Schedule the most attention rich tasks when you have a fresh and alert mind. Although I m more of
a night owl, I can feel that I have fresher mind in the morning. I usually do the complicate task that
needs a lot of brain working in the morning.

Islamic Women In America Brooks Summary
There are many political, religious, and cultural factors that shape the lives of Islamic women many of
them are completely different than factors in the lives of American women. Islam is one of the world s
fastest growing religions; however, Brooks argues that Islam s holiest texts have been misused to
justify the repression of women, and how male pride and power have warped the original message of
this once liberating faith. The book also shows these factors have slowly been taking away women s
rights, rather than furthering them.
The specific topic of this book is the oppression of women. Its overall purpose is to understand the
women behind the veils and why the Muslim women take up the hijab. The purpose is also to show
how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The major primary source she uses is the Koran that was transmitted by God through the prophet
Muhammad. Brooks also uses the story of Khomeini and the story of the queen as biographical and
historical accounts. An important biographical account is the one about Faezeh Hashemi and what she
did for the women s Olympics and sporting events.
Brooks uses the sources to bring the thesis together and to help get her point across about the
oppression of Islamic women and the pride and power of their male figures. An Islamic law states that
women are not to commit adultery, but their husband can have more than one wife. When Brooks
learned the story of Rehab and Mohamed and how Mohamed left Rehab for Fatima, it really opened
her eyes on how different the treatment of married women of the Islamic world.
She also learned how a woman was confined to the house unless escorted by a male figure, but a man
could go about what he does every day. As Brooks was trying to check into the hotel, the clerk said
she couldn t because she was not with a male figure and so she was kicked out of the hotel. Brooks
tone was different at many points in the book. When she found out that she saw how the women had
to be covered up all of the time, I could sense a little rage in her voice. When she was listening to the
story of Rehab and Mohamed she had a

Cronus Research Paper
Cronus: The Father of Gods
Have you ever heard the tale of the father that ate his own children so that he could maintain
authority? In Greek mythology, Cronus was a crazed deity who did anything to keep his reign as lord
of the Titans. He has been worshipped for centuries as the god of harvest, and is usually depicted
holding a scythe or a sickle in either one of his hands. Additionally, Cronus is also regarded by many
as the god of ages and time, particularly when mass destruction occurs. Being the ancestor of all
twelve Olympian gods, he plays an extensive part in Greek mythology. From Ancient Greece to today,
Cronus has left a legacy as colossal as the Titans themselves.
Born as the youngest in the generation of Titans, Cronus had wanted to obtain power and was envious
of his father, the god of the sky, Uranus. His chance finally came to him when his mother, Gaia, the
goddess of earth, called upon her children with a request. She had asked them who was brave enough
to cast a dreadful punishment on Uranus for a task he had done previously to Gaia. Only Cronus was
willing enough to take the quest. Gaia equipped him with a grand, stone sickle and sent him to castrate
his father as divine retribution. After completing the burden, Cronus quickly dismissed Uranus and

only from lore and mythology of greeks and romans on our world, but also to our solar system and

counterpart, Saturn. The word Saturday is also a reference to the Titans Roman counterpart. In the
book series Percy Jackson, by Rick Riordan, he is a major antagonist. The word chronological derives
from the latin root chronologia which was formed after the titan Cronus. This applies for any word

Dengue Is A Viral Disease
Dengue is a viral disease that at present affects a enormous number of people in over 125 countries
and is conscientious for a sizable number of deaths. There is no antiviral chemotherapy or vaccine for
dengue virus and management of the disease is done on supportive measures, so various treatments
are being investigated. Studies have indicated that the juice of the leaves of the Carica papaya plant
from the family Caricaceae could help to increase the platelet levels in these patients. This review
explains some of the published studies on this topic. Although many of the studies and case reports
published in literature lack adequate information, some of the studies do raise the possibility that this
treatment could be an important option in the future. Further largescale studies could establish the
usefulness or ineffectiveness of this natural product in the treatment of dengue.

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Development
Emily Bradshaw
Professor David Iannaccone
Introduction to Psychology
December 4th, 2014
Abstract
In this research paper, I explained what Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory of development is and
why it is important for the developing child to overcome said conflicts. I also talked about the
different effects of not overcoming the conflicts Freud had determined that would lead to adult
behaviors.
Over the years, Sigmund Freud has created many theories involving many different ideas in the
psychological world. One theory that stood out to me throughout our journey in introduction to
psychology is Freud s developmental theory. Freud s development theory is the influence that sexual
growth has on personality development from birth to adult life, with the phases of sexual maturation
designated as oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital. (psychosexual development. (n.d.). The
American Heritage® Stedman s Medical Dictionary. ) This theory stood out to me the most because I
feel that Freud has a very unique idea of how we, as humans, develop and how almost every stage
refers to a different growth, yet all involve sexual ideas. Sigmund Freud was said to believe that once
a child reached adulthood at eighteen years of age that they were fully grown. Many psychologists
have went against this theory however to discover that humans do not stop growing at eighteen. All
the stages of psychosexual development have a conflict in which has to be resolved or the child will
have

Vaccination Argumentative Essay
Vaccinations serve the primary function of protecting and strengthening immune functions. The
purpose of vaccinations is to prepare the immune system from these pathogenic invasions by injecting
a weakened strand of the pathogen into the DNA of the particular person (US Department of Health
Human Services, 2015). However, In relation to vaccination for children, some parents have become
sceptical over the effectiveness and the supposedly harmful quantities contained in vaccines. Some
have described vaccination as being increasing the risk of debilitating a child for life or even killing
them alleging that they simply do not work...and contain deadly chemical additives and more notably,
are highly profitable for drug companies, which aren t held liable for damages (NaturalNews, 2014).

Examples Of Magical Realism In The Famished Road
Okri s story The Famished Road includes several features of magical realism. Precisely, instances of
hybridity happen often. The character Azaro wrongly believes a character by the river to be the ferry
man of the dead, he acquires that she is in fact a hybrid woman, young in body but with an old woman
s face . The illustration is also a hybrid of ancient custom and ritual. Also, The Famished Road
portrays the theme of political corruption and political struggle. The character Madame Koto is
implied in the corruption of modern Nigerian politics. She summarizes the new power herself, rather
than its transgression, foreshadowing the country s Civil War to come. Okri has also used ironic
distance in this novel..

As I sit at my lunch table with my friends while they have a discussion about the government, I begin
to ponder how people can find so much enjoyment from having a conversation of such meager
substance and no real input or outside ideas. While I begin to question our beliefs, I do not initially say
anything out of fear of being ostracized from the group. Likewise, I sit in silence, surrounded but
isolated by those that I viewed as friends. I have always been surrounded by a strictly Democratic
crowd. Likewise, as I grew up I adopted these views, and rarely questioned. As I grew older and began

The Effects of Political Parties on a Democracy Essay...
The Effects of Political Parties on a Democracy
There are indeed several aspects in the composition of political parties that threaten democracy in the
UK, whilst other aspects may promote democracy. Careful analysis must be done in order to establish
to what extent either is true.
On the one hand, it may be argued that parties in fact promote democracy for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, they assist the electorate by offering them a coherent choice, allowing people to vote
democratically. Rather than the electorate having to choose between several members of each party,
and having to place votes for central government subsequent to placing local constituency votes,
voting is made simple and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1997, New Labour capitalised on the number of women who were elected, establishing the
impression that the party is female friendly . The Conservative party is also aiming to recruit more
women and ethnic minority candidates in time for the upcoming general election in May 2005. It has
also given higher platforms to those women already elected: Several years ago, Theresa May was
appointed as party chairman. Not only by modernising themselves to represent current populations in
Britain, parties also modernise themselves by generating new ideas for changing times. The labour
party is the most famous for adapting its policies and ideology. Labour changed its name to New
Labour under the leadership of Tony Blair in 1997, to reflect these radical changes. At this time
Labour chose to adapt its policies, and lose a lot of its socialist values. Under Old Labour state
ownership was held under high regard. But after Thatcher s privatisation of state businesses, Labour
acknowledged that it would be dangerous to radically reform businesses and bring them back under
state ownership, thus they modernised their policies adapting them to the New Britain, by sticking to
privatisation which had been warmly received. This promotes democracy, as policies are adapted to
suit the electorate, rather than parties imposing unwanted, outdated ideologies upon its

Biography Of Martin Luther King s Black Power

Chapter 24 Epilogue pp. 341 348
Many people had imperceptible answers to the questions like, what did it all mean in the end and what
were the accomplishments? Stokely Carmichael wrote a book called Black Power and in it he wrote
about how black people in that time did not accept segregation. Martin Luther King also made
important points in his speeches about segregation and how during this time black people decided to
make a change. The movement in the Alabama Black Belt lasted the longest and many people do not
acknowledge that fact. Even after all the protests started to fade away from the headlines, black people
in Alabama continued to protest for freedom. Many black citizens in Alabama began to realize that
there were other white people in Alabama who also wanted to end segregation. In Lowndes County,
Alabama, there was a rich man who owned thousands of acres of land, named Harrell Hammonds.
Hammonds was a probate judge who raised cattle and grew cotton on his farm. Hammonds was also
an aristocratic politician. Many people noticed Hammonds as being against segregation. Hammonds
argued in a court of law that everyone should be treated equally no matter the color of their skin. Later
in his life, Hammonds also gave his support for black people to be able to get an equal education as
white people.
There was an unhappy ending to Hammonds support to end segregation. Many people threatened his

The Progresive Reform Movement Essay examples
The Progressive Reform Movement played an instrumental role in uplifting American society to new
heights. The movement was fairly successful in curing the ills brought on by the massive industrial
growth of the late 19th century. Rich executives who had created monopolies and trusts were deemed
to have become too powerful, and political imbalances were ruled to be unacceptable. Progressive
reform was a cornerstone of the early 1900s and was the issue that defined several presidencies. The
Progressive Movement was a result of a century of economic and social neglect. It strived to correct
the economic, social, political, and moral justices that had plagued the 19th century and to instill

This modification of the Constitution gave women the right to vote, and effectively created a whole
new slant on politics. Corrupt governments began to falter because of the new voting bloc and
political party hierarchies began to crumble. The Progressive Movement not only revolution the
political landscape of America, but also molded a brand new economic infrastructure. Prior to the
movement, the US government enacted a policy of laissez faire towards the economy. From the early
1800s till the panics of 1893 and 1907 the economy boomed. Politicians were skeptical of pushing
reform because they feared that public opinion favored less regulation. However, by the turn of the
century this began to change. Due to the Panics of 1893 and 1907 Americans began to demand
change. The rise of a more liberal middle class began to change the political outlook of the early
1900s. These people favored fairness in the workplace and more regulation. Two key actions taken by
the government to support these goals included the creation of the Federal Reserve and the Federal
Trade Commission. The Federal Reserve Board became the central banking system of America. First,
it removed the lack of elasticity in the American currency. It also prevented privately run banks from
exploiting the currency or banding together in order to drive up premiums and fees. The Federal
Reserve was effective in driving down economic corruption and regulating the economy. The Federal

The Desensitization Of Violent Video Games
Video games when they first came onto the scene were viewed as family friendly games that could be
played on your TV or in an arcade with your friends. Games like Pacman and
Donkey Kong were among the most popular of the early video games. Soon it was possible to have
these games and many more in your own home and soon multiplayer games became popular and it
was all seen as harmless fun. However, as time went on the games soon turned more violent games
like Goldfinger started putting you in the hands of someone with guns and shooting his way through
enemies. This game became so popular that it has spurred on many of the violent games we see today

are a majority of video games today and for good reason seeing as how they are also to most
profitable. Although if more family friendly games where promoted instead of the more violent ones
they too could be more profitable. Instead the companies that make Halo and
Battlefield spend thousands of dollars to promote their latest game even though most would agree that
not much changes in shooter games nowadays except the graphics get better. The problem lies in that
why would game developers work on a different genre of game if shooting games sell so well? Action
games make the most money even if they are not received well most of the time they make well over
what it costs to make the game so why change? The fact the market is overstated with the same old

Theme Of Relationships In How Many Miles To Babylon
The theme is essentially the fundamental message of a text. The narratives I will explore have a one
theme in common, the theme that I found most intriguing, that of relationships. In How Many Miles to
Babylon? (HMMB) a novel by Jennifer Johnston, the theme of relationships is predominant; we are
introduced to the character of Alexander Alec Moore, a character with no real relationship. The
destructive relationship with his parents has affected the relationship he has with himself. Alec has
isolated himself from all forms of human contact. I find this quite troubling, but ultimately inspiring as
I will discuss in this essay. Similarly in The King s Speech, (TKS) a film directed by Tom Hooper,

Theme Of Pullman In Northern Lights
In Addition, Pullman s hate to the Church. Pullman always attacks churches and priesthoods, the
trouble is that all too often in human history, churches and priesthoods have set themselves up to rule
people s lives in the name of some invisible god (and they re all invisible, because they don t exist)
and done terrible damage. In the name of their god, they have burned, hanged, tortured, maimed,
robbed, violated, and enslaved millions of their fellow creatures, and done so with the happy
conviction that they were doing the will of god, and they would go to Heaven for it. That is the
religion I hate, and I m happy to knowns as its enemy . Pullman make the reader ask magnificent
questions, like questions about universe and how the universe was made, makes the Catholic Church
accused Pullman s writings as anti Christian and accused him of promoting a vision of the world
which leaves no room for hope. Even he has anti Christian ideologies and thoughts, however, there are
some critics who see him as less atheistic: Indifference is certainly a ... Show more content on

Pullman displays his enmity for the religion and Church through the novel, and portrayed in the
Church authority over society (the general oblation board). Pullman also displays his ideologies in
Lyra, she is disobedience, tomboy, curious, and what to know everything. His ideologies about Eve

Essay on John Stuart Mill’s Education
John Stuart Mill s Education
John Stuart Mill s education was intense at all times, but at different stages in his life he learned
different things and in different ways. Though his education was unique by all accounts, it embodied
many virtues that modern educational systems strive to include. These include: close parent
involvement and one on one work between students and teachers; exposure to intellectual role models;
emphasis on independent thought, logic, and pursuing curiosities; being held to high standards for
achievement; being free from invidious comparisons to peers; and learning the value of seeking out
peers for intellectual support and stimulation. He also learned, during personal struggles to understand

From the start his energies were funneled into academic learning, and since he associated studies with
his attention from his father, and since he had no other frame of reference to which to compare his
childhood as he lived it, he reports being reasonably happy and engaged in his early educational
training.
As he got a bit older, Mill s father extended his studies to include political and economic theory and
logic and pushed Mill to think critically, make analytical arguments, and pursue his curiosities and
write on his own. Mill s daily walks with his father, during which he recounted everything he learned
the previous day, reinforced the association between familial relationships and academic achievement.
Though he thought of himself as much his father s subordinate, he was taught the analytical tools that
allowed him to evaluate the things his father taught him as well as the opinions he himself formed and
had to substantiate. Inspired by his love of reading histories, he wrote several of his own, which
practice his father approved of but did not interfere in by asking or insisting on reading his son s
histories. The creation of a private sphere within his education separate from the part of it that he
shared with his father allowed Mill to appropriate learning as his own. By applying the tools and
resources of his training under his father to enjoyable hobbies of his own, he reinforced his skills

The War I And World War II Essay
The Thirty Years War
World War I and World War II are the largest military conflicts in history. In 1919, Europe attempted
to reconstruct the damage left by WWI. After WWI, with the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was left
destroyed and destabilized, which eventually laid out the foundation for WWII. The harsh terms of the
Treaty of Versailles led to the aggression of Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was supposed to bring
about peace, but Marshall Foch, generalissimo of the Allied Armies in France believed that instead, it
was an armistice for twenty years. The causes of WWII can easily be traced back to the unresolved
issues of WWI, thus bringing about the idea of the Thirty Years War. WWII is the second half of a
longer Thirty Years War because the first half, or WWI, caused economic instability, disintegration of
the European order, political and social unrest and psychological damage. The causes of WWII were
aggression of Germany and the appeasement that attempted to deal with the aggression, failure of the
League of Nations, collapse of three major Empires, Germany s repudiation of the Treaty of
Versailles, and the Great Depression. Ultimately, these causes can be traced back to the unresolved
issues of WWI.
The first direct cause of WWII that stemmed from WWI was the collapse of three major empires and
the failure of the League of Nations. After WWI, no government was in the same shape before the
war. The empires and dynasties of the Romanovs in Russia, the

Explain The Four Variations In Alimony Payments
Four Different Variations in Alimony Payments If you are considering a divorce, you may be ordered
by a judge to pay alimony to your spouse. Although the laws regarding alimony vary by state, when
alimony payments are made, it is usually the spouse making the greater income that is required to pay
money to the spouse making the smaller income. However, there are different variations of alimony
that you may be required to pay. The following are the most common. Permanent alimony This is the
type of payments people often think of when they hear the word alimony. This type of alimony can
last until the death of the paying ex spouse. It can also continue to be paid when the ex spouse
receiving the alimony is remarried. This type of alimony payment, ... Show more content on

It is court ordered by a judge, and serves the purpose of protecting the spouse with the smaller income.
This enables the individual to maintain the same lifestyle he or she has had during the marriage. Once
a divorce agreement has been drawn up and finalized, this type of alimony comes to an end. It may or
may not be replaced with a permanent alimony. Rehabilitative alimony This is a form of temporary
alimony that is paid to an individual for the purpose of transitioning to a new life. Often it is paid so
that an ex spouse can afford to learn new job skills or attend college. This type of alimony will last for
a period of time defined by a judge. In some cases, it may last until a couple s children are grown up.
Reimbursement alimony This type of alimony is for the purpose of reimbursing a spouse that made a
financial sacrifice for the other. A common example is when one spouse worked to help put the other
through school. After graduating from school, the individual went on to obtain a professional job with
a good income such as a doctor or attorney. The now high income producing spouse may be required
to reimburse the other for the time spent helping with the education. This type of alimony is different
than the others because it is usually paid in a lump sum, but it can take the form of payments over a
specific period of

Discuss the technological impact on film theory and the...
Films are one of the most popular media in the modern world, watched by hundreds of millions of
people all around the world. Films began in the late 19th century as a technological novelty,
transferring to a new means of presentation and distribution an older tradition of entertainment,
offering stories, spectacles, music, drama, humour and technical tricks for popular consumption.
(McQuail, 1983) And, as with any popular media, people began to talk and write about it, and film
theory arose from these writings.
Why the need for film theory? Because in watching a film, the spectator is not merely a passive

The work of the camera or the film stock are no longer as essential in determining the end product, or
the way films eventually look Digital technologies such as computer enhancement, imaging and
editing have shifted the production balance increasingly towards the postproduction phase, thus
further reducing the need for photographic accuracy. Not only can mistakes made during shooting be
corrected, and recording effects be maximized, live action images and sounds can be generated
independently of the outside world.
The advent of the digital age has affected not only the production and postproduction of the films, but
also the cinema and post cinema aspects as well. Cinemas now have features like THX or Dolby
surround sound, enhancing the cinematic experience, and the IMAX 3D projection system, which has
two camera lenses to project two different images simultaneously, simulating a 3d effect, which results
in an extremely immersive and engaging experience for the viewer.
In post cinema, new digital formats like the laser disc, video compact disc and the digital video disc,
known as the LD, VCD and DVD allowed for higher quality home releases of films. That, coupled
with increasingly advanced technology in the fields of televisions, home sound

Socialization And Immigrants During The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a time period in the history of the United States in which a large number of
serious social problems rose about. In the North and the West especially, this was also a time of rapid
growth. During this time, a lot of immigrants came to the United States as well. To them, America was
seen as the land of opportunity. In their home countries, the working conditions were terrible and they
had very low wages, so they came to America in hopes of a better life. Little did they know, the United
States was not much better for them. Although, with a large amount of workers now in the United
States, some skilled and others unskilled, it allowed industry to expand and consolidate. During the
Gilded Age, industry expanded and became stronger over time, resulting in workers coming together
and organizing themselves into unions and forcing the federal government to step away from
practicing laissez faire capitalism.
This time period really began when a new type of business organization came about. People, called
entrepreneurs, would start their own business and use large scale production with the end goal of
lowering the prices of goods and allowing them to make a huge profit on it. Some people during this
time would call these entrepreneurs robber barons because of the the low wages that they paid their
workers in combination with their terrible tactics to destroy their competition. Many business owners
were also philanthropists. These were the people that donated the money that they made to good
causes. One person who is an example of this is Andrew Carnegie, who supported the ideas of the
Gospel of Wealth and believed that the more fortunate and wealthy people had the responsibility of
giving back to society. Some of these business owners were accused of having a monopoly, which is
having complete control over the supply of a product or service. Overall, this industrialization lead to
more goods at a faster rate, which greatly contributed to the rise of big businesses. These businesses
lead to a greater profit, which lead to bigger business, which eventually lead to corporations.
Industry also expanded and came together in terms of economic practices. For example, one type of
economic practice was a

Architecture Manifesto Example
Course: ARC 103 Title: Architecture and Sensitivity: A Manifesto for Sustainable Design This
manifesto proposes an approach to sustainable design that I am interested in exploring during my time
studying architecture. The idea of sustainability is a complex one, not without apparent contradictions.
This makes it difficult to define in a wholly satisfactory manner. For the purposes of this manifesto I
will advert to the definition proposed by Jason McLennan who asserts that sustainable design: seeks to
maximize the quality of the built environment, while minimizing or eliminating negative impact to the
natural environment. I find this definition particularly useful in the emphasis which it places on
quality. By quality, in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arising out of his respect for the site, the scale of Aalto s office building derives both its horizontal

more recent example of contextually sensitive design is afforded by Grafton Architect s proposal for
the new Faculty of Economics for the University of Toulouse, still under construction. While
envisaging their project, the architects walked from one side of the city to the other, gauging the
character of the brick facades, the polygonal towers, the transitions from streets to courts and the
underlying spatial patterns. The resulting design offers a sensitive response to the layered history and
unique geography of the site. As founding partner Shelley McNamara has put it, the building weaves

social, philosophical, religious points of view. The topic seems to be extremely relevant not only
because it is related to the basic principles of society regarding life and death, but also it affects every

Hardcastle, Hodgson, McQuoid Mason, 2014, p. 259). Even though the issue of proper definition of
euthanasia is still debatable, the question of classification of euthanasia seems to be less problematic.
In fact, many scholars agree that euthanasia may be classified as voluntary (because of the will), non
voluntary (without specific will), involuntary (against the will) and divided according to active (use of
lethal substances) and passive options (termination of treatment). Euthanasia differs also from assisted
suicide. The former means to help someone to die, the latter means to help a person kill him or

Problem Statement
The subject of this paper is waiting times at clinics and how that time can be minimized. What is wait

Public hospitals are notorious for extended wait times at clinics. This has led patients who can afford
to prefer private clinics where they are seen on an appointment basis. The wait times at private clinics
is considered shorter though not the best at all times, than that in public clinics. Patients who may not
afford visiting private clinics are left with no choice but to attend public hospitals.
Background of the Problem
One of the indicators of quality service and efficient service delivery is patient wait times. Patient wait
times at clinics are a policy issue that needs to be addressed if hospitals foresee a change in its
operations and operational costs. Wait times can be attributed to poor planning and coordination in
hospitals. Wait times are experienced before consultation, during consultation and after consultation.
Health care centers typically have different people who provide different services all in the treatment
process. For an ordinary routine visit, there are professionals stationed at the reception to receive
clients and client information mostly regarding mode of payment. There are the nurses who are
stationed at the triage to measure the patients vitals. In between that and consultation, there are people
who oversee that transition, mostly nurses. The coordination of these activities carried out by different
persons is what results in extended

The And Of The Mob Essay
Then, of course, there is Lot s offering of his daughters to these gay men. 6But Lot went out to them at
the doorway, and shut the door behind him, 7and said, Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly. 8Now
behold, I have two daughters who have not had relations with man; please let me bring them out to
you, and do to them whatever you like; only do nothing to these men, inasmuch as they have come
under the shelter of my roof. (Genesis 19:6 8) Go to seminary and you may hear a bunch of song and
dance explanations of how Lot was just following the hospitality customs of his day in offering his
virgin daughters to the mob. If my neighborhood has such customs, I would move. Justification of Lot
s action based simply on this custom, stretches the bounds of credulity as this satirical Leave it to
Beaver type of recapitulation of that event demonstrates. The mob is eager to gang rape Lot s two
guests. Dumbfounded, Lot sticks his head into the kitchen to consult his wife about the problem.
Muriel. Lot says with a sheepish look on his face. Those pesky neighbors of ours want to bust down
our door again. Can t we just send our guests away? Muriel gets stern, Now Lot! You remember what
happened last time we broke our hospitality customs. Besides, I just put some cookies in the oven. Yell
upstairs and have the girls come down. O.K. honey. , says the husband with a smirk. Why do you
always have to be the smart one?! Lot goes over to the stairs and yells out, Sissy.

Essay on Analysis of The Revolt of Mother
Analysis of The Revolt of Mother
The Revolt of Mother by Mary Wilkins Freeman, was a story of a woman who lived in New England
around or before the author s time. The mother, Sarah Penn, was kept out of the families decisions by
the father, Adoniram Penn, until one event that lead to her taking drastic actions while her husband
was gone. There are many religious symbols and actions taken by Mother within the story. Through
the story Sarah moved from a feeling of servitude to her husband, to a feeling that she was in servitude
to the Lords will and this led her, in the end, to hold power over her husband. The religious overtones
start with the title of the story, The Revolt of Mother. The name Mother in many stories ... Show more

Sarah, on the other hand, is an interpreter of the Lords will.
Sarah comes to the conclusion that she is doing the Lords will when she declared the new maxim for
her self. She now believed that Unsolicited opportunities are the guideposts of the Lord to the new
roads of life . She knows that this is an unsolicited opportunity because she had nothing to do with
Hiram sending notice of a good horse to father. It is also known that Sarah believes she is doing by the
Lords will because it is a providence to her; which is taken as her having divine foresight. This
foresight comes from her being a new spirit.
The sense that she is a new spirit is implied when she states, I ve let the fire go out (528). Even though
she is talking about the stove, it is taken that it is a fire inside of her. The fire, which is a means of
destruction and chaos, was burning up her soul. And now that it was out a new spirit could take over.
The new spirit is also seen by Nanny when she tremble(s), as if it were a ghost (528). This ghost that
she feels is representative of the new spirit that has embodied mother. Because of this new feeling
both Sammy and Nanny seem to become something of religious followers to her.
The children as religious followers to Sarah are first clearly seen through the observation that There is
a certain uncanny and superhuman quality about such a purely original undertakings as their

Singing Monologue
I am a 17 year old girl whose one true passion is for my music. Since I damaged my voice due to
yelling while having a really bad sore throat one year, I tend to focus more on my singing. I try to
constantly practice everywhere I go. I ll be at home just singing or humming as I do chores or get
ready for work. Often times I find myself comfortable enough to start singing at work as I prep the
food or wash the dishes. I seem to be improving once again, but I remain cautious of my vocal chords.
My identity isn t defined by my singing, but rather the impact that music has had on my life. Growing
up I was never close to my siblings, mainly keeping to myself. I didn t feel wanted and life seemed a
bit lonely, my only escape was music. It

Similarities Between Neorealism And Institutionalism
Institutionalism Institutionalism rejects neorealist claims that the international system is characterized
by anarchy. Rather, it is more accurate to think of international system as made up of rational states
that exhibit growing interdependence. Interdependence creates incentives for cooperation among
states as it offers mutual benefits to all parties engaged. States learn cooperation through reciprocity or
are forced to cooperate for sake of securing public goods. Institutionalists also focus on the free riding
problem, which assumes that nations will tend to cheat and not do their part in producing public
goods. International institutions, such as the United Nations or World Trade Organization, can help in
establishing and sustaining cooperation among states by reducing transaction costs, helping with
monitoring (free riding problem), and offering third party mediation. Neorealism and institutionalism
have their differences, but they share also some common assumptions. Therefore, both perspectives
agree that states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, according to institutionalists, the core objective is to promote cooperation in anarchic and
competitive international system. While realists assume that the core objective is how to survive in
this system. However, institutionalists focus on the role that institutions play in international collective
actions. In order to define international cooperation, institutionalists looked at the state centric
perspective, which is similar with neorealism, which regards state as rational, unitary, and utility
maximizing actor to survive in global arena. Therefore, states are considered as the most relevant
actors with specific goals. As pursuing specific goals, states are assumed to make decision making
based on rational strategy in order to prioritize themselves and maximizing benefits from all possible

  • 2. Flight 11 On the morning of September 11th, 2001, four planes were hijacked in mid flight. These planes were hijacked by multiple terrorists, who planned to conduct suicide attacks on America. Soon after the planes were hijacked, the first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, tragically killing everyone on the plane and killing hundreds on the floors of the World Trade Center. 1,402 deaths occurred in the North Tower, and 87 deaths occurred inside Flight 11 (the plane that crashed into the North Tower.) Immediately after the first attack, NYPD and FDNY forces dispatched units to the scene, and President George W. Bush was alerted. In response to the second attack, the FAA banned all takeoffs of flights going to NYC or around the city, and the Port Authority closed all bridges and tunnels in the NYC area. Next, President George W. Bush gave a statement from Florida, responding to the attacks, calling them an apparent terrorist attack on our country. Only 6 minutes after his initial statement did the third attack occur, and it was on the Pentagon. Hijackers crashed Flight 77, the third plane, into the western side of the Pentagon, killing 59 on board and 125 people inside the building. Consequently, the FAA grounds all flights over or bound for the United States, and sends thousands of commercial flights and private planes to airports in Canada and the U.S. Additionally, the White House, Capitol, and other high profile places are evacuated as well, in case of another attack. • 3. Summary Of Symbolism In The Cellist Of Sarajevo The Utilization of Symbolism to Manifest a Message In literature, it is common for authors to apply different stylistic techniques in order to assist in providing the readers with a message. This idea is prominent in Steven Galloway s The Cellist of Sarajevo, a novel which follows the story of three characters in the war torn city of Sarajevo. Despite the fact that the characters never meet, they are each unified by a cellist and the song he plays for twenty two days to honour the citizens who lost their lives while waiting in line for bread. Throughout the book, a recurring idea is that of hope for the future of Sarajevo, which is shown through the contrast of symbols from the beginning of the novel to the end, the cellist himself, and the adagio that the cellist plays. It is evident from the meaning created through objects and people that Galloway is able to use symbolism to enhance the idea that a city which once was destroyed can still be repaired. The first significant method which Galloway uses to prove his idea is by elaborating on the idea of finding new hope for Sarajevo. By utilizing contrasting symbols in the beginning and end of the novel, he is able to demonstrate the change from having lack of faith for the future, to obtaining an improved ideology for the fate of the city. At the start of the novel, Dragan, a protagonist of the story, describes the city as a peculiar shade of grey. He s not sure where it came from, if it was always there and the war has ... • 5. Southern Colonies Research Paper One of the many beauties of the United States, is its vast history of diversity. Diversity is what built the country. As the early settlers traveled to the New World and began to build colonies, three distinct regions developed and took shape. The three regions were the New England/northern colonies, the middle colonies, and the southern colonies. Each of these districts had differences in religion/culture, government, and economy. These diverse traits built the core of each colony and directed the growth of each and why they developed in the way they did. Among the crops they grew, wheat (milled into four), made up nearly three fourths of the goods exported. There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Islamic Women In America Brooks Summary There are many political, religious, and cultural factors that shape the lives of Islamic women many of them are completely different than factors in the lives of American women. Islam is one of the world s fastest growing religions; however, Brooks argues that Islam s holiest texts have been misused to justify the repression of women, and how male pride and power have warped the original message of this once liberating faith. The book also shows these factors have slowly been taking away women s rights, rather than furthering them. The specific topic of this book is the oppression of women. Brooks uses the sources to bring the thesis together and to help get her point across about the oppression of Islamic women and the pride and power of their male figures. An Islamic law states that women are not to commit adultery, but their husband can have more than one wife. • 10. Cronus Research Paper Cronus: The Father of Gods Have you ever heard the tale of the father that ate his own children so that he could maintain authority? In Greek mythology, Cronus was a crazed deity who did anything to keep his reign as lord of the Titans. He has been worshipped for centuries as the god of harvest, and is usually depicted holding a scythe or a sickle in either one of his hands. Additionally, Cronus is also regarded by many as the god of ages and time, particularly when mass destruction occurs. Being the ancestor of all twelve Olympian gods, he plays an extensive part in Greek mythology. From Ancient Greece to today, Cronus has left a legacy as colossal as the Titans themselves. Born as the youngest in the generation of Titans, Cronus had wanted to obtain power and was envious of his father, the god of the sky, Uranus. His chance finally came to him when his mother, Gaia, the goddess of earth, called upon her children with a request. She had asked them who was brave enough to cast a dreadful punishment on Uranus for a task he had done previously to Gaia. Only Cronus was willing enough to take the quest. Gaia equipped him with a grand, stone sickle and sent him to castrate his father as divine retribution. After completing the burden, Cronus quickly dismissed Uranus and with his sister ... • 12. Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Development Emily Bradshaw Professor David Iannaccone Introduction to Psychology December 4th, 2014 Abstract In this research paper, I explained what Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory of development is and why it is important for the developing child to overcome said conflicts. I also talked about the different effects of not overcoming the conflicts Freud had determined that would lead to adult behaviors. Over the years, Sigmund Freud has created many theories involving many different ideas in the psychological world. One theory that stood out to me throughout our journey in introduction to psychology is Freud s developmental theory. Freud s development theory is the influence that sexual growth has on personality development from birth to adult life, with the phases of sexual maturation designated as oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital. (psychosexual development. (n.d.). The American Heritage® Stedman s Medical Dictionary. ) This theory stood out to me the most because I feel that Freud has a very unique idea of how we, as humans, develop and how almost every stage refers to a different growth, yet all involve sexual ideas. Sigmund Freud was said to believe that once a child reached adulthood at eighteen years of age that they were fully grown. Many psychologists have went against this theory however to discover that humans do not stop growing at eighteen. All the stages of psychosexual development have a conflict in which has to be resolved or the child will have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects of Political Parties on a Democracy There are indeed several aspects in the composition of political parties that threaten democracy in the UK, whilst other aspects may promote democracy. Careful analysis must be done in order to establish to what extent either is true. On the one hand, it may be argued that parties in fact promote democracy for a variety of reasons. Firstly, they assist the electorate by offering them a coherent choice, allowing people to vote democratically. Rather than the electorate having to choose between several members of each party, and having to place votes for central government subsequent to placing local constituency votes, voting is made simple and ... Not only by modernising themselves to represent current populations in Britain, parties also modernise themselves by generating new ideas for changing times. The labour party is the most famous for adapting its policies and ideology. Labour changed its name to New Labour under the leadership of Tony Blair in 1997, to reflect these radical changes. At this time Labour chose to adapt its policies, and lose a lot of its socialist values. Under Old Labour state ownership was held under high regard. But after Thatcher s privatisation of state businesses, Labour acknowledged that it would be dangerous to radically reform businesses and bring them back under state ownership, thus they modernised their policies adapting them to the New Britain, by sticking to privatisation which had been warmly received. Stokely Carmichael wrote a book called Black Power and in it he wrote about how black people in that time did not accept segregation. Martin Luther King also made important points in his speeches about segregation and how during this time black people decided to make a change. The movement in the Alabama Black Belt lasted the longest and many people do not acknowledge that fact. Even after all the protests started to fade away from the headlines, black people in Alabama continued to protest for freedom. Many black citizens in Alabama began to realize that there were other white people in Alabama who also wanted to end segregation. In Lowndes County, Alabama, there was a rich man who owned thousands of acres of land, named Harrell Hammonds. Hammonds was a probate judge who raised cattle and grew cotton on his farm. Hammonds was also an aristocratic politician. Many people noticed Hammonds as being against segregation. Prior to the movement, the US government enacted a policy of laissez faire towards the economy. From the early 1800s till the panics of 1893 and 1907 the economy boomed. Politicians were skeptical of pushing reform because they feared that public opinion favored less regulation. However, by the turn of the century this began to change. Due to the Panics of 1893 and 1907 Americans began to demand change. The rise of a more liberal middle class began to change the political outlook of the early 1900s. These people favored fairness in the workplace and more regulation. Two key actions taken by the government to support these goals included the creation of the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission. The Federal Reserve Board became the central banking system of America. First, it removed the lack of elasticity in the American currency. The Desensitization Of Violent Video Games Video games when they first came onto the scene were viewed as family friendly games that could be played on your TV or in an arcade with your friends. Games like Pacman and Donkey Kong were among the most popular of the early video games. Soon it was possible to have these games and many more in your own home and soon multiplayer games became popular and it was all seen as harmless fun. However, as time went on the games soon turned more violent games like Goldfinger started putting you in the hands of someone with guns and shooting his way through enemies. Although if more family friendly games where promoted instead of the more violent ones they too could be more profitable. Instead the companies that make Halo and Battlefield spend thousands of dollars to promote their latest game even though most would agree that not much changes in shooter games nowadays except the graphics get better. The problem lies in that why would game developers work on a different genre of game if shooting games sell so well? Action games make the most money even if they are not received well most of the time they make well over what it costs to make the game so why change? The narratives I will explore have a one theme in common, the theme that I found most intriguing, that of relationships. In How Many Miles to Babylon? Pullman always attacks churches and priesthoods, the trouble is that all too often in human history, churches and priesthoods have set themselves up to rule people s lives in the name of some invisible god (and they re all invisible, because they don t exist) and done terrible damage. These include: close parent involvement and one on one work between students and teachers; exposure to intellectual role models; emphasis on independent thought, logic, and pursuing curiosities; being held to high standards for achievement; being free from invidious comparisons to peers; and learning the value of seeking out peers for intellectual support and stimulation. Mill s daily walks with his father, during which he recounted everything he learned the previous day, reinforced the association between familial relationships and academic achievement. Though he thought of himself as much his father s subordinate, he was taught the analytical tools that allowed him to evaluate the things his father taught him as well as the opinions he himself formed and had to substantiate. Inspired by his love of reading histories, he wrote several of his own, which practice his father approved of but did not interfere in by asking or insisting on reading his son s histories. In 1919, Europe attempted to reconstruct the damage left by WWI. After WWI, with the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was left destroyed and destabilized, which eventually laid out the foundation for WWII. The harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailles led to the aggression of Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was supposed to bring about peace, but Marshall Foch, generalissimo of the Allied Armies in France believed that instead, it was an armistice for twenty years. The causes of WWII can easily be traced back to the unresolved issues of WWI, thus bringing about the idea of the Thirty Years War. WWII is the second half of a longer Thirty Years War because the first half, or WWI, caused economic instability, disintegration of the European order, political and social unrest and psychological damage. The causes of WWII were aggression of Germany and the appeasement that attempted to deal with the aggression, failure of the League of Nations, collapse of three major Empires, Germany s repudiation of the Treaty of Versailles, and the Great Depression. • 28. Socialization And Immigrants During The Gilded Age The Gilded Age was a time period in the history of the United States in which a large number of serious social problems rose about. In the North and the West especially, this was also a time of rapid growth. During this time, a lot of immigrants came to the United States as well. To them, America was seen as the land of opportunity. In their home countries, the working conditions were terrible and they had very low wages, so they came to America in hopes of a better life. Little did they know, the United States was not much better for them. Although, with a large amount of workers now in the United States, some skilled and others unskilled, it allowed industry to expand and consolidate. During the Gilded Age, industry expanded and became stronger over time, resulting in workers coming together and organizing themselves into unions and forcing the federal government to step away from practicing laissez faire capitalism. This time period really began when a new type of business organization came about. People, called entrepreneurs, would start their own business and use large scale production with the end goal of lowering the prices of goods and allowing them to make a huge profit on it. Some people during this time would call these entrepreneurs robber barons because of the the low wages that they paid their workers in combination with their terrible tactics to destroy their competition. Many business owners were also philanthropists. These were the people that donated the money that they made to good causes. One person who is an example of this is Andrew Carnegie, who supported the ideas of the Gospel of Wealth and believed that the more fortunate and wealthy people had the responsibility of giving back to society. Some of these business owners were accused of having a monopoly, which is having complete control over the supply of a product or service. Overall, this industrialization lead to more goods at a faster rate, which greatly contributed to the rise of big businesses. These businesses lead to a greater profit, which lead to bigger business, which eventually lead to corporations. Industry also expanded and came together in terms of economic practices.
