Child And Teen Beauty Pageants
It is not easy to be in the public s eye and constantly being watched can take a toll on a person.
Hundreds of child stars have grown up to be consumed with depression, eating disorders, drug and
alcohol addiction, and severe self esteem issues. So why would children that perform in child and teen
beauty pageants be any different? They are constantly being judged by their looks, their actions, their
poise and posture, their attitude and behaviors, the list goes on and on. That could severely affect the
way these children see themselves as they get older. When a child is constantly being watched and
criticized in every aspect, they develop a complex and a need to be perfect, when in fact perfection
does not exist. This is when their depression or drug addictions might seep in, when they realize they
can never live up to the standards that others have set on them. This is a very dangerous place to be,
and no child or teenager should have to suffer through such a time as this. Childhood should be full of
playing outside with friends, going to the pool or amusement park, visiting the beach or the mountains
with family. It shouldn t consist of maintaining perfection with all the fakeness day in and day out, or
there could be some very real consequences that might follow. Although there are massive amounts of
negatives that go along with child beauty pageants, there are also some positive aspects to them. Some
women have gained a great deal of success from entering into beauty

Clockwork Orange Controversy
A novel can stimulate different types of emotions that a reader may experience in his or her lifetime.
Many people analyze books to get a deeper and better understanding. They dig beneath the surface of
a book and dig deeper than the words the author has written in the novel. However, to better
understand an author s works. One must look at the events of an author s entire life and the time
period in which the novel was written. Anthony Burgess, author of A Clockwork Orange, experienced
many events that reflect upon his works. There are many different aspects that are continuously
analyzed throughout Anthony Burgess s A Clockwork Orange, from the plot, to the characters, and the
many different criticism that are applied throughout the novel. ... Show more content on

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame Essay
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Love is a universal language. This popular quote from many movies and literary works describes the
importance of love, and how there are no limits or barriers when dealing with love. Many people
cannot even help whether or not they fall in love. There are many types of love and they need not be
between members of opposite sexes. In
Victor Hugo s novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
Quasimodo s love for Esmerelda is not as strong as his different sense of love for the Archdeacon,
Claude Frollo.
Quasimodo loves each person in a different manner, but is truer to the Archdeacon.
The hunchback feels, among other things, a love described as Eros for the Mistress Esmerelda;
whereas, for

Thus the Archdeacon was the only person with whom Quasimodo maintained communication
(p.65). The hunchback feels a sense of love based on comradery and years of relations. He deeply
admires Claude
Frollo s religious faith and charity: that is, the charity shown to Quasimodo when he was only a
young, abandoned boy.
The two men have a complex system of hand gestures and sign language which they use to
communicate with each other. This illustrates their mutual correspondence and understanding.
Through these experiences and this upbringing, Quasimodo develops a Philial love for the
Archdeacon.
In the timeframe of this story, the late 1400 s and early 1500 s, the Catholic Church is a major factor
and authority in virtually all of a town s laws, transactions and business. This being the case, holding
the position as
Archdeacon, or head of the church, is a much coveted occupation. Quasimodo admires the
Archdeacon s powerful position. The hunchback himself enjoys authority as he possesses the power of
rule over people. This is visible when he is elected Pope of Fools: Quasimodo let himself be decked
out in them with a kind of proud docility. He was then made to sit down on a brightly colored litter.
Twelve officers of the Brotherhood of Fools lifted it to their shoulders. A bitter

Agrippina The Younger Analysis
Julia Augusta Agrippina, or more commonly, Agrippina the Younger was a Roman empress consort
and one of the most distinguished women of the Julio Claudian dynasty. In her earlier years,
Agrippina, as well as her mother and older brother, were remorsly mistreated by Emperor Tiberius,
who was only a stepson of Augustus. She would have learned at her mother s knee to despise usurpers
who were not direct descendants of Augustus. Historians have long suspected that a childhood spent
steeped in fear and resentment may have driven Agrippina in her determination to rule rather than
suffer the whims of a ruler. Agrippina the Younger has been described by both ancient sources and
modern scholars as ruthless, aggressive, violent, and domineering. With ... Show more content on

Modern historians have suggested that Claudius ruled with far more effectiveness than the ancient
sources credit him, Suetonius speaks of his ruling as carefree and unstrategetic as commented by
Cassius Dio, Agrippina was adorned with various honors such as the title of Augusta appointed by
Claudius himself. During the reign of Claudius, Augustus was sometimes used as a name for men of
noble birth, making Agrippina the first living consort of a living emperor to receive such an honor as
well as one of the first women to challenge the social structure of Rome, thus giving Agrippina a role
of stature far beyond normally achievable. Being allowed the right to use the carpentum at festivals, as
well as other honors was an uncommon privilege that could only be given by the Senate, it represented
power and wealth that not many women could have. Agrippina s role during the reign of Claudius has
been described as influential and aspiring during such a traditional period in time. Claudius favored
her so, allowing her to take some rein in his politics and his ruling. It has been said that Claudius was
presented as having a sluggish uxoriousness according to Tacitus. Tacitus further suggests that under
Agrippina, Rome was transformed and it was confirmed that Agrippina ruled with an almost

experience. Your instructor will require you to propose an activity and get instructor approval before
you do it and report on it (students should look for any instructions in that respect). Every effort

Note: Submit your cultural activity choice to the instructor for approval before the end of Week 5

activity in your general area.
Visiting a Museum
It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the
first time. Find out what there is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions are
currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you.
If there is a travelling exhibition, it s always a good idea to see it while you have the chance. Then, if
you have time, you can look at other things in the museum.
Every effort should be made ahead of time to identify a museum that has items and works one can
easily connect to our HUM 111 class and book. Since HUM 111 covers from ancient times to the
1500s AD, it makes more sense to focus on items from that time frame. In general, museums with
artistic cultural artifacts and fine arts work better than history museums.
Any questions about whether a museum visit activity fits the course and assignment well enough will
be decided by the instructor when the student seeks approval for the activity. Any alternative

Reflective Introduction To Cinema
The larger majority of the Introduction to Cinema 2366 course was viewing films. Subsequently, the
films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the humanities. As a student, my
interests have developed around the social issues of classism and racism in America. Therefore, the
course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink the
ways I understand these issues as well as understand film rhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge of how
society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the past, this is
especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or before. In this way, I
have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great depression, and the red
scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that though time and geography
may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless truths of humanity. The course has
also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before enrolling in this course, I had little knowledge
about cinema and its place in our society. The course has provided me with a new found appreciation
for the art of film which is an important subject in academia rather than just an elective. Lastly, I have
realized the idea of the infinite person, via this film course. Through the films viewed in class, I have
found myself relating to characters I regularly would not have. For

The Concept Of Designer Babies
The argument of whether or not to pursue the concept of Designer Babies is one that has been very
popular recently. First off, the cost of this process is extremely unaffordable for most. It takes about
$18,000 to simply select one trait, the gender of your baby (Thedoctorstv). Doctors will charge more
money for the more complex processes, so the cost of these procedures are not even worth it with all
the problems that come with them. Plus, this technology is not even one hundred percent safe yet
which makes it risky and expensive. Doctors can insert around four thousand different genetic markers
(Discovery Science) so the possibilities for designer babies is quite extraordinary. However, there are
many problems that arise with this new

Analysis Of The Apocalyptic Destruction Of The Human Race
Zombie texts have been a longstanding subgenre of fantasy. Often gory and with elements of horror,
the apocalyptic destruction of the human race brought about by some form of virus is consumed by
many and is reoccurring in popular culture. It is often questioned why we find such enjoyment in a
text that depicts such horrors. The answer is in the role fantasy plays, which is a fulfillment of a wish,
a way to depict our explicit desires in a licit way, and to provide a screen for us to do this. World War
Z (WWZ) adheres to these fantasy elements whilst also highlighting the mediation between duty and
pleasure. The scene that has been selected for analysis is one where hero Gerry Lane is fleeing with
his family up the stairs of an apartment complex to meet the helicopter that is coming to save them, all
whilst fighting off a horde of zombies. This scene is tense, fast paced, and shows our hero fulfilling
his expected role and the desires of the viewers.
The scene begins with Gerry and his family ready to flee to the roof. The shot is filled with flickering
red light, red being a common symbol for danger, whilst the flickering provides uncertainty and fear.
These shots set the scene for the impending horror. Gerry s wife asks him, How do we know they re
coming? to which he replies, They re coming. From the start, Gerry is the all knowing, calm, collected
hero. He is the protector who takes the lead. As the main character, he is the person the audience sees
themselves as

The Pharaohs Of The 18th Dynasty
Since the first Ancient Egyptian, Pharaoh Menes, placed himself on the throne, the pharaohs were
considered to be both divine deities as well as mortal rulers. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines
prophet as a member of some religion who delivers messages that are believed to have come from
God Did that make Pharaoh Amenhotep IV aka Akhenaten a prophet? Defying centuries of traditional
worship of the Egyptians, the mid 14th century BCE Pharaoh Akhenaten decreed during his reign that
his subjects were to worship only one god; the sun disk Aten. Was this a direct message from the gods
or were there other political reasons at play. The pharaohs of the 18th dynasty 1550 1307 BCE had
expanded Egypt s wealth; conquering Palestine, Syria, plus securing the gold mines of Nubia, which
made her the wealthiest country in the world. With 2,000 years of experience behind her, Egyptian
forces were able to push back the Hittites, Libyans, and other tribes who stood in the way of their
development. Amongst the progression was Amun, a major Egyptian deity, who after the rebellion of
Thebes against the Hyksos, became heightened after his fusion with the Sun god, Ra, as Amun Re. In
gratitude for their successes, the pharaohs offered treasures to the god Amun Ra, increasing the wealth
and influence of the priesthood. The deity acquired national importance that alarmed Amenhotep III
and his son Amenhotep IV due to the escalating powers of the priests of Amun. The Karnak Amun Ra

Limited high altitude plants are available for any type of garden including a rock garden. At high
altitude, some plants can burn their leaves easily because they re closer to the sun. Many rock garden
plants that are listed as perennials at sea level, are actually annuals at high altitude. A high altitude
rock garden is one of the simplest gardens to create and can make a not so good looking area of your
yard, come alive with plants and rocks. The ideal location for a high altitude rock garden is a natural

attractive near the garage or in a corner of your yard that you re not sure what to do with. Most high
altitude rock garden plants need good drainage and that s why a sloped area is best. A high altitude
rock garden doesn t have to be on a slope, it can border your front walk and your house or anywhere

Merion Veenom Soccer Tribe Analysis
Tribe, described by the dictionary as, Any aggregate of people united by ties of descent from a
common ancestor, community of customs and traditions , can cause many people to often tumble into
disagreement with one another over the meaning of this word. Arguments have lead people to believe
that the word tribe refers to a group of people that are primitive and savage, but Archeologists have
cleaned up the meaning. Archaeologists define the word tribe as, A political group that comprises
several bands or lineage groups, each with similar language and lifestyle and each occupying a distinct

Each player in the team may have separate backgrounds, but when united they all believe in a few
things. The team itself believes that they always need to be focused and always need to show up with
intensity whether they have a practice or a game. The Venom, were a newly created soccer team in
2014 by coach Steve Baron. They understand their world as a place to get better, and a place to
compete. Every single kid on the team understands the other teams as enemies that they need to
concor. Each child has a different life story about how they became the person they were. For
example, some kids were born in Bryn Mawr, Philadelphia, and some kids were born in Trinidad and
Tobago. The kids come from many different backgrounds, but all unite because they understand the
world the same. Alike the Native Americans and African tribes, the Venom perform the same rituals
before each game and practice. They eat the same foods, always healthy, and they get themselves
loose in the same way each time. They always eat healthy foods like salads, fruits, and vegetables but
they never eat something that could weight them down like junk food. Before each game, the team
performs the same warm up, they jog, they spring, they do high knees, etc. These rituals before a game
never change, similar to how the Native Americans rituals never change. Because many of the
members come from different backgrounds, there is a stern difference between how they differentiate
themselves. Many kids show up to practices in clothes that they wear on a daily basis, so for some
people, that s different. Kids show up in jackets, shorts, gloves, hats, jerseys, anything under the sun.
The catch is that they are always unique, the outfits are never similar to the others. Although we all
share the same interests, we all differentiate from another because of our styles of life. In 2014, the

Defense Of Mary Warren In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Emma Harrison 10/24/17 Ms. Ruiz Period 6 Defense of Mary Warren When it comes to Arthur Miller
s allegorical work, The Crucible, very few characters can be deemed completely innocent. While just
about every person in this story has a flaw of envy, pride, or selfishness, characters can often be sorted
into the accuser or accused categories. One exception to this is Mary Warren. Throughout the story,
her loyalties switch back and forth between these two sides. Due to this, she may seem like a selfish
and unsympathetic character; that is not the case, however. Mary Warren is an abused and manipulated
child, whose decisions in the story are certainly justified, given her situation. The first we see of Mary
is when Betty falls ill after the the girls are caught congregating in the woods. Immediately, we see she
is terrified, fully aware that them being accused of witchcraft would be a hangin error (1268). Abigail
responds to her fear with an order to lie; she threatens them with violence should they not obey her.
Abigail is one of Mary Warren s main abusers in the story. John Proctor, Mary s employer, enters the
scene next. When he sees her away from his house, he scolds her in a humiliating fashion, even
threatening to whip her. From the stage directions, we see she tries to retain a shred of dignity (1269),
when this happens, leading to the belief that this reproach from Proctor is common in her life. We don
t hear from Mary again until the beginning of Act II. She

Boeing Scrambles to Repair Problems With New Plane Layers of Outsourcing Slow 787 Production;

Boeing Co. will give Wall Street a progress report on its 787 Dreamliner, as it scrambles to overcome
a six month delay in producing the new jet. A look inside the project reveals that the mess stems from
one of its main selling points to investors global outsourcing. When the Chicago aerospace giant set
out four years ago to build the fuel sipping jet, it figured the chief risk lay in perfecting a process to
build much of the plane from carbonfiber plastic instead of aluminum. Boeing focused so hard on

The plan calls for suppliers to ship mostly completed fuselage sections, already stuffed with wiring
and other systems, to Boeing facilities around Seattle so they could be put together in as few as three
days. Existing production methods can keep a plane the size of the Dreamliner in the final assembly
area for a month. But many of these handpicked suppliers, instead of using their own engineers to do
the design work, farmed out this key task to even smaller companies. Some of those ended up

Macc Da Tho In John Gantz s Things Fall Apart
Macc Da Tho is the enchanting king of Lagin and has this magical hound that was the protector of
Lagin and his fame grew so large that everyone in the different lands would love to have. This prestige
s hound goes by the name of Ailbhe and the men of Ulster and Connacht both want Ailbhe for
themselves. Both participants decide to show up on the same day unknowingly to Macc Da, but little
did they know that Macc actually knew they were both coming. Since Macc Da is a trickster, when he
heard a knock on the door he opened it and answered, We were not expecting you, warriors!
Nevertheless, I welcome you! Come into the courtyard! (Gantz 182) Macc Da Tho knew what he was

The rule was that the best warrior was the one who would be able to cut the pig and feed the best
portions of the meat to his warriors and leave the crappy pieces of meat to his opponents. Conall did
just that and cut the best portions of the pig for himself and his other Ulster warriors. While giving Cet
and the Connacht warriors such a small portion and the worst parts of the pig basically leaving just the
scraps, that a battle breaks out between them. Although the battle broke out Macc Da Tho knew that
this was going to unfold and hoping that it would, so he let it go on for a little bit. When the battle
started moving out of the dining hall and into the courtyard Macc decided that he should become
involved. Mac finally appeared and let the hound loose, At last, Macc Da Tho came out with the dog

The Youth Of A New Country
1. Grabbing people s attention with certain programs can be a hard task to achieve, especially if they
don t know your language that well, or they are newcomers to your country. The way I would reach
out to the newcomer youth in the Greater Toronto area would be creating a flier to post around schools
and public places to promote the program, this way the more instances that people see the flier, the
more interested in it they become. Another way of grabbing the attention of newcomers to pull them
into coming to our program would be giving out packages explaining to the parents of the children
what our program can benefit to their children who are being welcomed into a new country. This
makes sure the child s parents are aware of the programs that the YMCA has for them, plus give them
a chance to look over and contemplate if they believe it is going to be a good opportunity for their
children. Lastly, I would develop a presentation, and go into the schools most populated with
newcomer kids to introduce them to the types of programs that they can get involved in. I would even
ask for it to be held outside of normal school hours so their parents would be able to sit in on the
presentation so they are able to get the same information. There is one major barrier the I need to
consider while developing ways to promote the YMCA programs. That barrier is communication.
While most of the people who live in Toronto speak either English or French, immigrants also in the

Jazz Popularity
Jazz, like most other music genres, evolves as time passes, so it is informative to see how jazz and the
jazz audience has changed throughout the decades. Predictions made about jazz music s future in a
1964 Playboy article are finally answered in a 2008 survey from the National Endowment for the Arts.
One of the biggest changes seen in the jazz community is its popularity. African American artists,
Cannonball Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, George Russell, and two white critics, Ralph
Gleason and Nat Hentoff were questioned about their views on whether jazz popularity would increase
or not. In the Playboy interview, Gleason remained optimistic about jazz s popularity, while Russell
and Schuller believed that jazz would be on the decline in the next few decades ( A Jazz Summit
Meeting 238). As it turns out, Russell and Schuller were correct in their prediction that jazz popularity
would decrease. In the 2008 survey, the number of adults who attended jazz concerts dropped from
eleven to eight percent from 2002 to 2008 ( Now Who Listens to Jazz? 413). Reasons behind jazz s
decline in popularity have often been speculated with one such reason being that new jazz styles like
bebop, free jazz, and smooth jazz pushed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While African Americans are still more likely to listen to jazz, overall, the survey found that jazz was
more popular among older audiences from ages 45 through 64 ( Now Who Listens to Jazz? 413).
Compared to the audiences in the 1920s through 1950s, the jazz audiences were usually teens and
young adults. Paired with the decrease in jazz popularity, it is possible that the same generation that
embraced jazz still enjoys listening to it, while the current generation of music listeners aren t as
passionate about jazz. Once again, these survey findings contrast against Gleason s more optimistic
predictions and align more with the views of Mingus, Mulligan and

Brofenbrenner s Theory Of Microsystem Analysis
The two significant life events I chose to examine further are, when I met my fiancé and when I
received my GED. I chose these two events because they were the most life changing, I am a better
person for them. When I met my fiancé, I was at a horrible point in my life. When he entered my life,
he helped me get back on my feet. He was there for me when I could not depend on anyone else and I
am forever grateful to have met him. I also chose receiving my GED as another pivotal life event.
Obtaining my GED has opened the door for me to further my education and it is something I would
not have pursued if not for my fiancé s support. Passing the test was one of my biggest achievements,
and I am very proud of my score. If not for these two major life changing events, I definitely would
not be enrolled at Ashford, on my way to a Bachelor s degree.
Urie Brofenbrenner proposed a theory of five overlapping ecological systems. They focus on broad,
interconnected influences on human development, such as the interactions between individuals and
their environment (Mossler, 2013) While examining Brofenbrenner s rings influence on me meeting
my fiancé, John, I discovered how much society comes into play. The microsystems influence stems
from the fact that we were introduced by mutual friends. The exosystem s influence lies in the fact we
grew up in the same neighborhood and come from the same economic standings. This aided in John
and I having similar life experiences which helped us to

Charles M. Payne s I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom
If any questions remain about whether the Mississippi freedom movement was an organic resistance
movement, then Charles M. Payne s I ve Got the Light of Freedom should remove all doubt. The
movement was created and maintained by an organizing tradition that stretched back to the early
1940s. It featured an activism of an earlier, socially invisible generation, including war veterans,
ministers, civic minded businessmen, and average laborers. Greenwood is the focus of Payne s story,
and the peak years of movement activity there were 1962 1964, which was the time local activists paid
a very heroic struggle for political access, economic justice, and social equality.

Local citizens grasped the moment and gave their support to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating
Committee (SNCC), the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP), the Council of Federated

mobilizing a town, from door to door campaigning to captivating mass meetings, and he concludes
that Greenwood was one of the most successful cases of local leadership development.
The entire experience proved to be transformative for both individuals and organizations. Eventually,
however, by 1965, the movement lost energy. Payne points out the triggering depression to the
introduction of new participants with more selfish motives, a different moral climate, and the loss of a
sense of community. Another sign of transformation was the development of the Loyal Democrats: a
party organization that was much more moderate than the grass roots MFDP that preceded it. In

A Brief Biography of Jane Austen
Jane Austen was truly a woman of her time. Not only did her level of education soar over most women
of her time, she truly cared about the people around her. Austen s passion for her family was just as
strong as her passion for reading and writing. Austen strived to learn more everyday. She was one of
the most widely read writers in English Literature. (Biography of Jane Austen 1) Jane Austen was born
December 16, 1775 in Steventon, Village in Hampshire.
Austen received a better education then most women of her time. (Collins, K.K. 1) Jane Austen was
taught mostly by her father and her five brothers whom expected Austen to have a stellar education.
Austen also learned from the impressive library her father had in their home. Fortunately, Austen had
a better education than most women. The earliest writing recovered was when she only eleven years
old. Her family always strived for her to have the best education. Austen and her sister Cassandra were
always going to different boarding schools. After Austen caught typhus and almost died, she mostly
was educated at home. Austen s parents decided to send her and her sister Cassandra to boarding
school again after she recovered from her illness. After a year in boarding school both sisters returned
to home because the family could not afford it any longer. Austen continued her education by reading
books. Her father George and her brothers James and Henry guided her in her education to keep her

Importance Of Leisure And Leisure
Introduction to Sociology: Assessment 3
How does thinking sociologically help us to understand the role and significance of sport or leisure in
contemporary Australia?
Leisure and sport play a significant role in contemporary Australia. Leisure can be defined as activities
we choose purely out of enjoyment and have no obligations to do and Sport can be defined as a
competitive activity. Leisure must be recognised as the opposite of work.
Sport and Leisure hasn t always had a major part of our everyday lives, as time has evolved so has
societies attitudes, the importance of sport and leisure has become emphasised, especially since the
industrial revolution. Sport and Leisure plays an important role of social development, self
development and community development. Within modern society, perceptions on leisure time and
sports has changed and improved dramatically, for example; prior to the 19th century national parks
didn t exist and the land would ve been seen as inconvenient or a burden on society whereas nowadays
it s somewhere you can go on an adventure and use the land in ways the pre revolution society would
never have imagined.
In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) it states that all humans have the right and
should be entitled to rest, leisure and the reasonable limitation of working hours and access to the
cultural life of the community. Long before this was declared by the UDHR, in 1856 the 8 hour
working day was achieved in Australia,

Doubt John Patrick Shanley Essay
Besides earning a Pulitzer Prize, John Patrick Shanley achieved another unique feat with his play,
Doubt he expertly crafted a story whose conclusion ultimately lies within the mind and imagination of
the reader. Doubt is a play confined within the walls of a Catholic school during the 1960s. It presents
a tense clash between Father Flynn, a gregarious priest at the school who advocates progressive ideas
and empathy for transgression; and Sister Aloysius, the draconian, stalwartly traditional principal who
steadily becomes more and more certain that Flynn has been sexually abusing a student. The story is
artfully hewn, ending in a type of purgatory between doubt and certainty that leaves the reader to
untangle the web woven by Shanley. Thus, two readers may read the same words formed into the
same sentences, but reach polar conclusions regarding the guilt of Father Flynn. Make no mistake; this
phenomenon is intentional and will explain a possible motivation behind the play s title: Doubt: A
Parable. In the play s preface, Shanley writes: Doubt requires more courage than conviction does, and
more energy; because conviction is a resting place and doubt is infinite it is a ... Show more content on

Shanley has explicitly echoed this sentiment, stating, [p]eople who are utterly certain are vulnerable to
a brand of foolishness that people who maintain a level of doubt are not. But, if we are to believe this
theory that true and absolute certainty is more oft than not an unattainable ideal then is it just to entrust
the conviction and life of another human to the certainties of a jury? While Shanley s Doubt is not an
express plea for a reformation of the judicial system and jury trials, it does bring to the forefront
prominent complications that can arise due to the inescapable fallibility of human

When People Think Of A Presidential Election, Chances Are
When people think of a presidential election, chances are that they will focus on election night itself,
completely ignoring the nomination process that came before it. Although our current nomination
process has been around for over one hundred years, it has not been without its complications. For
almost thirty years, states have been guilty of front loading which Dictionary.com defines as the
process of concentrating maximum effort on an activity at the outset (Dictionary.com, n.d.). Every
year, different states change their primary or caucus dates to fall earlier in the year, effectively front
loading the presidential campaign every four years. As stated in my prospectus, my proposed reform
involves adopting an open primary schedule ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, a caucus is a public vote in which people in specific regions meet up and physically move
from one side of a room to another after listening to candidates debates to make their choice. When
the primaries/caucuses are over, the delegates, who represent the votes of the citizens, travel to their
parties national convention in which the delates meet with super delegates. It is here that together, they
make their choice for presidential nominee (Olson, 2016). I believe this current system is not
democratic enough because front loading of presidential campaigns has many drawbacks.
To begin, front loading hurts the democratic nature of the nomination process because it hurts the
states. All states, by the power of the constitution, are democratic and can choose to participate in the
nomination process of their choosing. Be it a caucus or a primary, delegates and super delegates are
always involved. The current nomination system is part of our representative democracy in which we,
the people, vote for representatives to represent us in government (Dahl, 2003, p.73). As the
presidential race progresses from state to state, the race itself becomes less and less about platform
issues and increasingly more about delegate counts and spending large sums of money used for
convincing the American public to vote a precise way. If candidates will be bouncing back and forth

She wants to clarify everything, which is what the entire song is actually talking about. Stephanie is
trying to put everything into the light of day and whether she succeeds or not is left to the listener s
imagination with the last sentence that is It s cold in Alaska (Stephanie says) . This last part is repeated
three times in a row. The meaning behind it is that Alaska being cold is a fact and everyone knows it
since they nicknamed her after it but does anyone really know how cold it gets? They can imagine but
can they know for sure the way she does. She says these lines as she gives up and stops trying to find a
way out from the state she s in. The listener can than only feel her hopelessness and imagine what
becomes of her next. The song consists of a couple of stylistic devices like metaphor. Stephanie is
compared to a door using metaphor in order to create a better image in the listener s mind about her
situation. Another one is Stephanie being compared to Alaska. In the last line which goes as It s so
cold in Alaska , does the writer really talk about the fact that the state of Alaska is cold or might there
be a deeper meaning behind this simple line? I don t believe that there ever is a true or false meaning
behind a song, for songs are especially created so that their meanings differ from people to people.

God s Predestination
In the articles, The Decree: Trinity and predestination , Creation: God s Time for Us , and Providence
God s Care for all He has made by Michael Horton we learn that the doctrine of God s predestination
of all things is clearly taught in scripture. Creation is not the result of primordial violence or conflict,
but the free decision, and generous, outgoing activity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in covenant love.
God s providence is his sustenance and governance of all things, including sin and evil, for good of his
people and the glory of his wisdom and grace in Christ. The author will provide several arguments for
each of the following terms: decree, creation, and providence.
To begin with, the author states that predestination is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The creation narrative is not a myth, but an account of God s free historical act and his claim upon all
reality. The pattern of ex nihilo creation is a constant biblical parallel for the new creation language of
redemption. The doctrine of creation is at the heart of the sharp contrast between the biblical
worldview and the various monisms and dualisms of pagan ontologies. The author talks about creative
communication and the integrity of creation. He said that the Bible represents God s personal effective
speech. Humans were created as communicative partners in this covenant, to lead the rest of creation
in its hearing of God s speech and response of praise. He also presented beyond God of the gaps in
which he developed the God of the Gap apologetic and design and contingency. Finally in chapter ten,
he addressed I am the alpha and the omega : original, continual, and new creation in which he said that
God s act not only of preserving creatures but continually bringing about their fruitfulness and their
ongoing diversity. Furthermore in chapter eleven, he stated that providence is based on scripture.
There are three classes of scripture passages regarding providence such as soteriology, common grace,
and theodicy. Many Christians who have trouble accepting divine sovereignty in salvation
nevertheless recognize God s absolute lordship over nature and history. The author mention that
scripture does not say that God does all things himself, or that everything that happens is good in
itself, but that God works all things together for our good. He talks about concursus, or concurrence
which refers to the simultaneity of divine and human agency in actions or events. In permitting evil,
God not only lets it happen; he determines how far it will go and how he will work it for

The opportunities which are available to every unemployed worker in the United States are training
programs, health insurance assistance, and food and emergency aid. With these programs available to
the unemployed in the United States, it is helping put America back to work, and giving people the
opportunity to go back school to be retrained in a new field of work which they didn t have the chance
to do in the past. Since Puerto Rico isn t a state they don t have these programs that assist the
unemployed to help them get back to work, in turn it s causing a big problem for their economy.
The biggest problem for Puerto Rico s economy is the tax incentives for big corporations that establish
operations in Puerto Rico. One of the advantages for a corporation to operate in Puerto Rico is that
they can claim their profits and wages paid up to 60 percent for tax credits, in which does cost the
United States and Puerto Rico billions of dollars each year in tax revenue (U.S. Census, 2003). These
tax breaks they receive do not benefit the local economy; they go elsewhere. As a result of this and
other factors, the United States total spending is $22 Billion dollars each year for federal funds to
stimulate the Puerto Rican economy (Schaefer, 2010).
The unique tax benefits Puerto Rico offers to corporations to establish operations on their island are
very attractive to companies who want to increase their profits. With these tax benefits in place, Puerto

The maximum long term achievable throughput rate is determined by the resource with the least
capacity. As different process routes are followed by dry and wet berries, there will be distinct and
separate maximum achievable throughput rates for these two products. The capacity of the dryers is
the bottleneck for the wet berries. Therefore, the maximum throughput for wet berries is 600 bbls/hr.
As for dry berries, the separation process is the bottleneck. The maximum throughput for dry berries

The above mathematical analysis predicts what may happen if processing time was moved up from
11.00AM to 7.00AM. It is evident here that the average waiting time is reduced by 2 hours and 15
minutes as the wait time decreases from 3 hours to just 45 minutes. This should definitely prove to be
beneficial to the company as it quickens the business process, reduces wait time, minimizes chances of
a processing emergency and hopefully improves profitability. Therefore, under the light of the current
information available, there is no reason why the processing time should not be moved up to 7.00 AM

Differences Between Euthyphro And Socrates
Euthyphro by Plato introduces a dilemma that invites one to ask if what we do is just because we say
it is or is it just because the gods say so. This dialogue transpires between Euthyphro and Socrates.
Socrates was a student of all things in the sky and below the earth. As a student, a pupil of all that
there is to learn, one will ask questions. This is what Socrates did. Euthyphro was a theologian that
was acquainted with Socrates through means unknown. Although he was familiar with Socrates s

he, himself, was questioned. The two meet at the courthouse, awaiting separate trials. Euthyphro was

Examples Of Light And Darkness In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 45, Ray Bradbury uses the motifs of light and darkness to develop characters and
demonstrate that knowledge and ignorance impact the wellbeing of society . The motifs of light and
darkness show the crucial effects of knowledge and ignorance on society; knowledge brings happiness
and meaning that ignorance hinders. Demonstrating the effects of knowledge, Clarisse and her family,
as nonconformist of their society, are intellectual as a result of their exposure to books. Unlike the
overwhelming majority of the society, Clarisse and her family are able to withhold a conversation that
goes beyond most people s field of interest. Montag witnesses this early in the morning after Millie
overdoses on pills, and he hears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montag witnesses the amiable effects of knowledge on Clarisse when he first meets her and becomes
exposed to her powerful curiosity and intellect. During this encounter, Montag observes that her face
was [a] fragile milk crystal with a soft constant light in [...] the strangely comfortable and rare and
gently flattering light of the candle, (Bradbury 5). The light used to describe Clarisse symbolizes her
wisdom that she uses to entice Montag. As a result, she is described in pleasurable way, connoted
through Bradbury s use of the words soft, comfortable, and gently flattering. This shows that Clarisse
s intellect develops her character as delightful throughout the novel. Unlike Clarisse, other figures in
the novel are portrayed through the motif of darkness. The firemen, as conformist, burn books in their
society to maintain equality. After his final encounter with Clarisse, Montag observes the firemen in
the firehouse as they lit their eternally burning black pipes. They and their charcoal hair and soot
colored brows and bluish ash smeared cheeks, (Bradbury 30). The firemen burn books, the essence of
knowledge, thus they are responsible for the widespread establishment of ignorance in their society.
As a result, the firemen are described with dark features through the words charcoal, ash, and soot.
The connotation of these dark adjectives contributes to the characterization of the firemen as
destructive, representing their ruination of society. Therefore, the motifs of light and dark contribute to
the characterization of Clarisse and the

  • 2. Child And Teen Beauty Pageants It is not easy to be in the public s eye and constantly being watched can take a toll on a person. Hundreds of child stars have grown up to be consumed with depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, and severe self esteem issues. So why would children that perform in child and teen beauty pageants be any different? They are constantly being judged by their looks, their actions, their poise and posture, their attitude and behaviors, the list goes on and on. That could severely affect the way these children see themselves as they get older. When a child is constantly being watched and criticized in every aspect, they develop a complex and a need to be perfect, when in fact perfection does not exist. This is when their depression or drug addictions might seep in, when they realize they can never live up to the standards that others have set on them. This is a very dangerous place to be, and no child or teenager should have to suffer through such a time as this. Childhood should be full of playing outside with friends, going to the pool or amusement park, visiting the beach or the mountains with family. It shouldn t consist of maintaining perfection with all the fakeness day in and day out, or there could be some very real consequences that might follow. Although there are massive amounts of negatives that go along with child beauty pageants, there are also some positive aspects to them. • 4. The Hunchback of Notre-Dame Essay The Hunchback of Notre Dame Love is a universal language. This popular quote from many movies and literary works describes the importance of love, and how there are no limits or barriers when dealing with love. Many people cannot even help whether or not they fall in love. There are many types of love and they need not be between members of opposite sexes. In Victor Hugo s novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo s love for Esmerelda is not as strong as his different sense of love for the Archdeacon, Claude Frollo. Quasimodo loves each person in a different manner, but is truer to the Archdeacon. The hunchback feels, among other things, a love described as Eros for the Mistress Esmerelda; whereas, for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the Archdeacon was the only person with whom Quasimodo maintained communication (p.65). The hunchback feels a sense of love based on comradery and years of relations. He deeply admires Claude Frollo s religious faith and charity: that is, the charity shown to Quasimodo when he was only a young, abandoned boy. The two men have a complex system of hand gestures and sign language which they use to communicate with each other. This illustrates their mutual correspondence and understanding. Through these experiences and this upbringing, Quasimodo develops a Philial love for the Archdeacon. In the timeframe of this story, the late 1400 s and early 1500 s, the Catholic Church is a major factor and authority in virtually all of a town s laws, transactions and business. This being the case, holding the position as Archdeacon, or head of the church, is a much coveted occupation. Quasimodo admires the Archdeacon s powerful position. The hunchback himself enjoys authority as he possesses the power of rule over people. This is visible when he is elected Pope of Fools: Quasimodo let himself be decked out in them with a kind of proud docility. He was then made to sit down on a brightly colored litter. • 5. Agrippina The Younger Analysis Julia Augusta Agrippina, or more commonly, Agrippina the Younger was a Roman empress consort and one of the most distinguished women of the Julio Claudian dynasty. In her earlier years, Agrippina, as well as her mother and older brother, were remorsly mistreated by Emperor Tiberius, who was only a stepson of Augustus. She would have learned at her mother s knee to despise usurpers who were not direct descendants of Augustus. Historians have long suspected that a childhood spent steeped in fear and resentment may have driven Agrippina in her determination to rule rather than suffer the whims of a ruler. Modern historians have suggested that Claudius ruled with far more effectiveness than the ancient sources credit him, Suetonius speaks of his ruling as carefree and unstrategetic as commented by Cassius Dio, Agrippina was adorned with various honors such as the title of Augusta appointed by Claudius himself. During the reign of Claudius, Augustus was sometimes used as a name for men of noble birth, making Agrippina the first living consort of a living emperor to receive such an honor as well as one of the first women to challenge the social structure of Rome, thus giving Agrippina a role of stature far beyond normally achievable. Being allowed the right to use the carpentum at festivals, as well as other honors was an uncommon privilege that could only be given by the Senate, it represented power and wealth that not many women could have. Agrippina s role during the reign of Claudius has been described as influential and aspiring during such a traditional period in time. Claudius favored her so, allowing her to take some rein in his politics and his ruling. It has been said that Claudius was presented as having a sluggish uxoriousness according to Tacitus. Tacitus further suggests that under Agrippina, Rome was transformed and it was confirmed that Agrippina ruled with an almost masculine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Reflective Introduction To Cinema The larger majority of the Introduction to Cinema 2366 course was viewing films. Subsequently, the films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the humanities. As a student, my interests have developed around the social issues of classism and racism in America. Therefore, the course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink the ways I understand these issues as well as understand film rhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge of how society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the past, this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or before. In this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great depression, and the red scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that though time and geography may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless truths of humanity. The course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before enrolling in this course, I had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The course has provided me with a new found appreciation for the art of film which is an important subject in academia rather than just an elective. Often gory and with elements of horror, the apocalyptic destruction of the human race brought about by some form of virus is consumed by many and is reoccurring in popular culture. The answer is in the role fantasy plays, which is a fulfillment of a wish, a way to depict our explicit desires in a licit way, and to provide a screen for us to do this. World War Z (WWZ) adheres to these fantasy elements whilst also highlighting the mediation between duty and pleasure. Defying centuries of traditional worship of the Egyptians, the mid 14th century BCE Pharaoh Akhenaten decreed during his reign that his subjects were to worship only one god; the sun disk Aten. Defense Of Mary Warren In The Crucible By Arthur Miller Emma Harrison 10/24/17 Ms. Ruiz Period 6 Defense of Mary Warren When it comes to Arthur Miller s allegorical work, The Crucible, very few characters can be deemed completely innocent. While just about every person in this story has a flaw of envy, pride, or selfishness, characters can often be sorted into the accuser or accused categories. One exception to this is Mary Warren. Throughout the story, her loyalties switch back and forth between these two sides. Due to this, she may seem like a selfish and unsympathetic character; that is not the case, however. Mary Warren is an abused and manipulated child, whose decisions in the story are certainly justified, given her situation. The first we see of Mary is when Betty falls ill after the the girls are caught congregating in the woods. Immediately, we see she is terrified, fully aware that them being accused of witchcraft would be a hangin error (1268). Abigail responds to her fear with an order to lie; she threatens them with violence should they not obey her. Abigail is one of Mary Warren s main abusers in the story. John Proctor, Mary s employer, enters the scene next. When he sees her away from his house, he scolds her in a humiliating fashion, even threatening to whip her. From the stage directions, we see she tries to retain a shred of dignity (1269), when this happens, leading to the belief that this reproach from Proctor is common in her life. A look inside the project reveals that the mess stems from one of its main selling points to investors global outsourcing. But many of these handpicked suppliers, instead of using their own engineers to do the design work, farmed out this key task to even smaller companies. Another way of grabbing the attention of newcomers to pull them into coming to our program would be giving out packages explaining to the parents of the children what our program can benefit to their children who are being welcomed into a new country. • 25. Jazz Popularity Jazz, like most other music genres, evolves as time passes, so it is informative to see how jazz and the jazz audience has changed throughout the decades. Predictions made about jazz music s future in a 1964 Playboy article are finally answered in a 2008 survey from the National Endowment for the Arts. One of the biggest changes seen in the jazz community is its popularity. African American artists, Cannonball Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, George Russell, and two white critics, Ralph Gleason and Nat Hentoff were questioned about their views on whether jazz popularity would increase or not. In the Playboy interview, Gleason remained optimistic about jazz s popularity, while Russell and Schuller believed that jazz would be on the decline in the next few decades ( A Jazz Summit Meeting 238). As it turns out, Russell and Schuller were correct in their prediction that jazz popularity would decrease. In the 2008 survey, the number of adults who attended jazz concerts dropped from eleven to eight percent from 2002 to 2008 ( Now Who Listens to Jazz? 413). Reasons behind jazz s decline in popularity have often been speculated with one such reason being that new jazz styles like bebop, free jazz, and smooth jazz pushed ... Paired with the decrease in jazz popularity, it is possible that the same generation that embraced jazz still enjoys listening to it, while the current generation of music listeners aren t as passionate about jazz. • 26. Brofenbrenner s Theory Of Microsystem Analysis The two significant life events I chose to examine further are, when I met my fiancé and when I received my GED. I chose these two events because they were the most life changing, I am a better person for them. When I met my fiancé, I was at a horrible point in my life. When he entered my life, he helped me get back on my feet. He was there for me when I could not depend on anyone else and I am forever grateful to have met him. I also chose receiving my GED as another pivotal life event. Obtaining my GED has opened the door for me to further my education and it is something I would not have pursued if not for my fiancé s support. Passing the test was one of my biggest achievements, and I am very proud of my score. If not for these two major life changing events, I definitely would not be enrolled at Ashford, on my way to a Bachelor s degree. Urie Brofenbrenner proposed a theory of five overlapping ecological systems. They focus on broad, interconnected influences on human development, such as the interactions between individuals and their environment (Mossler, 2013) While examining Brofenbrenner s rings influence on me meeting my fiancé, John, I discovered how much society comes into play. The microsystems influence stems from the fact that we were introduced by mutual friends. The exosystem s influence lies in the fact we grew up in the same neighborhood and come from the same economic standings. Payne s I ve Got the Light of Freedom should remove all doubt. The movement was created and maintained by an organizing tradition that stretched back to the early 1940s. It featured an activism of an earlier, socially invisible generation, including war veterans, ministers, civic minded businessmen, and average laborers. Greenwood is the focus of Payne s story, and the peak years of movement activity there were 1962 1964, which was the time local activists paid a very heroic struggle for political access, economic justice, and social equality. The entire experience proved to be transformative for both individuals and organizations. Eventually, however, by 1965, the movement lost energy. Payne points out the triggering depression to the introduction of new participants with more selfish motives, a different moral climate, and the loss of a sense of community. Another sign of transformation was the development of the Loyal Democrats: a party organization that was much more moderate than the grass roots MFDP that preceded it. • 30. Importance Of Leisure And Leisure Introduction to Sociology: Assessment 3 How does thinking sociologically help us to understand the role and significance of sport or leisure in contemporary Australia? Leisure and sport play a significant role in contemporary Australia. Leisure can be defined as activities we choose purely out of enjoyment and have no obligations to do and Sport can be defined as a competitive activity. Leisure must be recognised as the opposite of work. Sport and Leisure hasn t always had a major part of our everyday lives, as time has evolved so has societies attitudes, the importance of sport and leisure has become emphasised, especially since the industrial revolution. Sport and Leisure plays an important role of social development, self development and community development. Within modern society, perceptions on leisure time and sports has changed and improved dramatically, for example; prior to the 19th century national parks didn t exist and the land would ve been seen as inconvenient or a burden on society whereas nowadays it s somewhere you can go on an adventure and use the land in ways the pre revolution society would never have imagined. In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) it states that all humans have the right and should be entitled to rest, leisure and the reasonable limitation of working hours and access to the cultural life of the community. • 31. Doubt John Patrick Shanley Essay Besides earning a Pulitzer Prize, John Patrick Shanley achieved another unique feat with his play, Doubt he expertly crafted a story whose conclusion ultimately lies within the mind and imagination of the reader. Doubt is a play confined within the walls of a Catholic school during the 1960s. It presents a tense clash between Father Flynn, a gregarious priest at the school who advocates progressive ideas and empathy for transgression; and Sister Aloysius, the draconian, stalwartly traditional principal who steadily becomes more and more certain that Flynn has been sexually abusing a student. The story is artfully hewn, ending in a type of purgatory between doubt and certainty that leaves the reader to untangle the web woven by Shanley. Thus, two readers may read the same words formed into the same sentences, but reach polar conclusions regarding the guilt of Father Flynn. Make no mistake; this phenomenon is intentional and will explain a possible motivation behind the play s title: Doubt: A Parable. In the play s preface, Shanley writes: Doubt requires more courage than conviction does, and more energy; because conviction is a resting place and doubt is infinite it is a ... • 32. When People Think Of A Presidential Election, Chances Are When people think of a presidential election, chances are that they will focus on election night itself, completely ignoring the nomination process that came before it. Although our current nomination process has been around for over one hundred years, it has not been without its complications. For almost thirty years, states have been guilty of front loading which Dictionary.com defines as the process of concentrating maximum effort on an activity at the outset (Dictionary.com, n.d.). Every year, different states change their primary or caucus dates to fall earlier in the year, effectively front loading the presidential campaign every four years. As stated in my prospectus, my proposed reform involves adopting an open primary schedule ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, a caucus is a public vote in which people in specific regions meet up and physically move from one side of a room to another after listening to candidates debates to make their choice. When the primaries/caucuses are over, the delegates, who represent the votes of the citizens, travel to their parties national convention in which the delates meet with super delegates. It is here that together, they make their choice for presidential nominee (Olson, 2016). I believe this current system is not democratic enough because front loading of presidential campaigns has many drawbacks. To begin, front loading hurts the democratic nature of the nomination process because it hurts the states. All states, by the power of the constitution, are democratic and can choose to participate in the nomination process of their choosing. Be it a caucus or a primary, delegates and super delegates are always involved. The current nomination system is part of our representative democracy in which we, the people, vote for representatives to represent us in government (Dahl, 2003, p.73). Creation is not the result of primordial violence or conflict, but the free decision, and generous, outgoing activity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in covenant love. God s providence is his sustenance and governance of all things, including sin and evil, for good of his people and the glory of his wisdom and grace in Christ. The pattern of ex nihilo creation is a constant biblical parallel for the new creation language of redemption. The doctrine of creation is at the heart of the sharp contrast between the biblical worldview and the various monisms and dualisms of pagan ontologies. The author talks about creative communication and the integrity of creation. He said that the Bible represents God s personal effective speech. Humans were created as communicative partners in this covenant, to lead the rest of creation in its hearing of God s speech and response of praise. He also presented beyond God of the gaps in which he developed the God of the Gap apologetic and design and contingency. Finally in chapter ten, he addressed I am the alpha and the omega : original, continual, and new creation in which he said that God s act not only of preserving creatures but continually bringing about their fruitfulness and their ongoing diversity. Furthermore in chapter eleven, he stated that providence is based on scripture. There are three classes of scripture passages regarding providence such as soteriology, common grace, and theodicy. Many Christians who have trouble accepting divine sovereignty in salvation nevertheless recognize God s absolute lordship over nature and history. The author mention that scripture does not say that God does all things himself, or that everything that happens is good in itself, but that God works all things together for our good. Since Puerto Rico isn t a state they don t have these programs that assist the unemployed to help them get back to work, in turn it s causing a big problem for their economy. One of the advantages for a corporation to operate in Puerto Rico is that they can claim their profits and wages paid up to 60 percent for tax credits, in which does cost the United States and Puerto Rico billions of dollars each year in tax revenue (U.S. Census, 2003). The maximum long term achievable throughput rate is determined by the resource with the least capacity. The capacity of the dryers is the bottleneck for the wet berries. Therefore, the maximum throughput for wet berries is 600 bbls/hr. As for dry berries, the separation process is the bottleneck. The light used to describe Clarisse symbolizes her wisdom that she uses to entice Montag.
