Southwest Airlines Aphorism
Introduction
Many organizations implement a strategic plan to grow their company or take a step towards
success. The result of that plan is either efficacious or a failure. Southwest Airlines Corporation is
no exception to the rule. Their success is based on a few key components that have kept them as a
profitable company, with happy employees and customers.
History and mission of the organization
Southwest Airlines Corporation, which was essentially established in 1971, has become one of
the most well known airlines to date. The cofounder, Herb Kelleher, had a simple motto to follow
when he began the company: If you get your passengers to their destinations when they want to
get there, on time, at the lowest possible fares, and make darn sure they have a good time doing it,
people will fly your airline (About Southwest, n.d., p. 1). This is a pretty simple concept, in that as
a corporation you take care of your customers and employees and in turn you will have a higher
morale within the organization. In addition, a higher customer gratification will be a result of Mr.
Kelleher s astute aphorism. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the low fares they provide for their flights. Kelleher emphasizes about this in his interview
with Chuck Lucier, a senior vice president emeritus of Booz Allen Hamilton. Kelleher speaks
about the profitability of Southwest, about the reliability of its employers, and the dependability
of customers to be able to fly at the lowest rate possible and to be able to travel within the
timeframe that they demand (Lucier, 2004, paras. 1 7). In my personal experiences, in flying on a
number of flights with several different airlines, I have found the mission statement to be true. I
use Southwest Airlines as a starting point to look for flights simple because of their low fares are
usually the best bargain, in addition to their flexible flight

The Dangers Of Short Term Memory And Long Term Memory
I can t find my keys! Could you please remind me of your name ? Sorry, I forgot How many
times have you made similar statements? Have you ever found it hard to recall things, places,
people, names and conversations? Do you sometimes feel frustrated at your inability to recall
important dates? If so, you are not alone. Forgetfulness is a very common experience for many
people.
No doubt, having a good memory is a vital part of healthy living. Our brain has the capacity to
remember huge amounts of information because millions of neural connections facilitate storing
and retrieval of facts and figures.
It is important to note that no one needs to store everything indefinitely. In fact, there are some
things we would rather forget. Nevertheless, you need to regularly retain significant information for
limited periods. This is called short term memory. For example, short term memory helps you retain
information to compare prices of items on your shopping list. ... Show more content on

This is called long term memory, which is also very important. Long term memory helps you to
recall special moments, occasions, anniversaries or time spent with loved ones?

medical student moved from being an individual with an average memory to a World champion
with the ability to recall 3,029 numbers in an hour and a whole pack of cards in 21.5 seconds with

Examples Of Stereotyping In The Workplace
A stereotype is a way to determine where a person or thing falls in the realm of life. Stereotyping
is a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality. It allows a person s mind to
work properly and for the human brain to be able to recognize, process, store and then recall the
information when needed. It can also be used in racial, political, and religious ways and many
more ways. Stereotyping in a racial way is judging people by the color of their skin, where they
come from, or the language they speak. It can be both good and bad to stereotype, it just depends on
how it is being said. Stereotyping in a religious way is judging people by what they believe in.
Stereotyping in a political way is judging people in the political party they support.... Show more

It causes low morale for a single person who is doing it or a group of people. A general problem a
workplace can encounter is stereotyping other people and it can give bad publicity and a bad
reputation for the workplace. It is illegal to discriminate against people and the consequences are
very crucial. If the workplace requires teamwork it is a very bad thing to stereotype and the
company will not be as successful. A company wants good working relationships with its
employees, not bad working relationships. When one person is judging another, they no longer
have the need to get to know each other and think of themselves as if they are better than the other.
Communication is key for two individuals and groups and an essential part for the workplace. It is
important to be open minded of other people and judge people on first impressions instead of not

Analysis of the Theme of Survival in Auschwitz Essay
Survival in Auschwitz tells of the horrifying and inhuman conditions of life in the Auschwitz
death camp as personally witnessed and experienced by the author, Primo Levi. Levi is an Italian
Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty five, was arrested with an Italian resistance group and
sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi
endured the cruel and inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to
die. Levi thoroughly presents the hopeless existence of the prisoners in Auschwitz, whose most
basic human rights were stripped away, when in Chapter 2 he states, Imagine now a man who is
deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits,... Show more content

In Chapter 6, Levi tells how Kapos, beat us from pure bestiality and violence, but others beat us
when we are under a load almost lovingly, accompanying the blows with exhortations, as cart
drivers do with willing horses (67). A further aspect of Survival in Auschwitz that reinforces the
dehumanizing effect of the death camp on the Jewish prisoners is the constant presence of
hunger and starvation among the prisoners. Food and its acquisition and consumption are a
constant topic that Primo Levi discusses because it constantly occupied the minds of most
prisoners. Levi states, We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the
bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat bread so as not
to lose the crumbs (33). Bread and soup are the only things prisoners in the camp receive and
whether you are served soup from the top or the bottom is of great importance. The prisoners
would try to get soup from the bottom half of the vat because soup from the upper portion is
mostly watery broth whereas soup from the bottom portion contains more vegetables pieces (33).
The insatiable desire for food would lead prisoners to act in very animalistic ways. Upon waking up
in the morning, prisoners would quickly make their beds and then run to the latrines urinating while
they run to save time, because within five minutes begins the

Materialistic Items In The Great Gatsby
Materialistic possessions became the center of popularity in the 1920 s, life became all about who
could get the most Women and throw the biggest party. These materialistic items were used to
acquire other non materialistic things such as love and social status. These goals were often
unattainable, specifically for three characters in F. Scott Fitzgeralds , The Great Gatsby. Love and
social status were the unattainable dreams of Myrtle, the status driven cheater; Wilson, the
shooter; and Gatsby; the Daisy craving self made millionaire. Myrtle Wilson married George

Why Should Animal Cloning Be Banned
Human and animal cloning should be banned, that s what i believe. Animal cloning is not as bad
as human cloning but it should be banned. The procedure to clone a human or a animal is
difficult, risky, and most important expensive. Also many people are against it and if it becomes
legal or official it could cause polemics between our people and religions.
Human cloning is a very controversial theme. The reason why it is controversial is because of
their religion beliefs. Many religions do not approve human nor animal cloning. Human cloning
could disrupt the peace between our citizens due to their beliefs. Human cloning (reproductive)
requires of a woman s body, and if cloning is approved and made legal or official, in a couple of
years there would be an exploration of women s bodies. Just how Bush the ex president of the
United States of America said in the article President Bush calls on Senate to Back Human
Cloning Ban. In the article What Ever Happened to Cloning? it gave us a good reason why
cloning is bad. Leonard (the writer) stated that a study revealed that the sheep created from the
same biological matter used to make Dolly, the first cloned mammal, were aging normally and
living healthful crumbling and apparently widely held impression that cloning created unhealthy
animals. This study is very important because if it creates unhealthy humans. This type of
cloning should be banned until it s totally safe, not 80% or 90%, 100% safe. Also a cloned child
would have to live a depressing childhood if the religious people around him know he/she is a
cloned child, this children would most likely live a dark life. Animal cloning is not such a good
idea too. As how the article what ever happened to cloning? stated, cloning makes unhealthy
animals. There is no reason to clone common animals like cats, dogs, or even birds. Why clone
animals that can probably develop an unhealthy life. Instead of cloning cats and dogs, why not
adopt the ones that don t have a home? There are many of them out there in the streets and in dog
pounds that need a home, a lovely owner. There are not just a couple of them, there are hundreds
and thousands of them dying out there, and we are just going to clone the ones that

The Tale Of Fairy Tales Essay
Fairy tales have been told throughout time ever since gathering of people there s been demand
for telling stories to an audience. What started out as oral tales eventually evolved into written
fairy tales. People now began to write stories for the young children that would teach them
important life lessons that would be of major importance to them in the years to come. These
lessons that were introduced into fairytales played an important role in the development of their
unshaped minds because these tales would make it easier from to transition children into
adolescence, and eventually into adults. However, as these fairy tales evolved from being oral
to written society also evolved alongside with it. Society become became more advanced and
sophisticated that the lessons that once had great meaning in a way became obsolete. In many
instances the lessons that were preached in the tales degraded the roles of women by reducing
to an object of marriage. It s important to remember that fairytales were not intend to be seen as
negative, in fact they originated as a means of good but the evolution of society and ever so
changing mindset of people has caused people to look at these fairytales in a new scope. In
doing so it was determined that fairy tales were no longer as good at teaching life lesson as they
once were. In order to make fairytales into what they once were there needs to another evolution of
fairy tales that will bring them up to speed to our current

Thin Democracy
Thin democracy can be considered as the overview of how democracies elect their leaders. Joseph
Schumpeter describes thin democracy to have free, fair, and regular elections. On the other hand,
there are ten thick dimensions to what is considered a liberal democracy. Thick democracyhas
characteristics such as a large amount of individual freedoms in terms of speech, belief, and
opinion, pluralism in regards to media and information outlets, and equality of all citizens under
the law. The distinction between the two are important because they both present two different
results when being established. Thin democracy is malleable and can multiply at a good rate.
However, this only gives an opportunity for good values to be established and does not ensure the

The relationship between liberalism and democracy is that both should attempt to be intertwined.
Liberalism is like the roof and walls which protect the citizens from government and democracy is
the structure and foundations which keeps order. It is completely possible to have one without
the other, but the results are not always good. As stated in the second reading, the separation of
the two would result in forms of illiberal democracy or liberal autocracy. Illiberal democracy
would have the electoral process of a thin democracy, but will likely overlook protecting the
citizens rights and focus on accumulating power. A liberal autocracy may not allow much say
into who or what is spearheading the nation, but will allow many qualities seen in a thick
democracy. Illiberal democracies may also eventually spiral into disarray along with horizontal
and vertical usurpation. Liberal autocracies would have freedom of speech, a fair judicial system,
and even individual freedoms for beliefs, culture, and religion. Of course, there may be more or

Othello, The Moor of Venice Essay examples
Othello, the Moor of Venice is one of the major tragedies written by William Shakespeare that
follows the main character, Othello through his trials and tribulations. Othello, the Moor of Venice
is similar to William Shakespeare s other tragedies and follows a set of specific rules of drama.
The requirements include, following the definition of a tragedy, definition of tragic hero,
containing a reversal of fortune, and a descent from happiness. William Shakespeare fulfills
Aristotle s requirements in this famous play. Aristotle the famous philosopher outlined several
requirements in which a play or piece of drama is to follow.

his title, because of this Othello, the Moor of Venice follows one of Aristotle s requirements.
Aristotle s second requirement for a tragedy is that the tragic hero must have a reversal of
fortune. In the beginning of the play, Othello is seen as content with his new bride: For know,
Iago, But that I love the gentle Desdemona (1.2.24 25). As the play progresses, and Iago s plan

Planned Parenthood Vs Planned Parenthood
President Trump signed an executive order on Monday, January 23, 2017 barring federal funds
from organizations that promote abortion around the world, including the International Planned
Parenthood Federation, in what activists say is the president s first major pro life action while in
office (Richardson, 2017). The Mexico City Policy known as the gag rule policy by abortionrights
organizations, is a U.S government policy blocking US federal funding for non governmental
organizations that provide abortion counselling or referrals, and advocate to decriminalize
abortion or expand abortion services. This policy dates back to the Reagan era policy and was
rescinded by President Clinton in 1993, restored by President Bush in 2001, overturned... Show

This proposal was never made formal and it seems unlikely that Planned Parenthood will accept,
despite the fact they receive $500 mill annually in Federal Funding. However, let it be noted that
the majority or almost none of the funding is used for abortions, with the majority of the money
being used to help pay for women s health services provided by the non profit. As can be seen in
the Planned Parenthood summary of service 2016 Image and 2014 Graph in the appendix, very
little of Planned Parenthood s service relate to abortions, with as little as 3% being the average
over the past 3 years. In addition the Images below, under Planned Parenthood Revenue Sources
and Service Graphs, show the Non profit receiving $528.4 million in Government funding and
only 3% of services related to abortions. If it is concluded that all the funding for abortions comes
from the Government, then $15.74 million of Government money is spent on abortions.
However, it is very unlikely that it all comes from one source meaning that the amount of
government money spent on abortions is much less than $15 million. Due to the lack of funding
going towards abortions, Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood
Federation of America, said Let s be clear: Federal funds already do not pay for abortions
(Haberman, 2017). Overall, based on the graphs, it is quite noticeable that Planned Parenthood s
impact is not all abortions, rather abortions are a small part of Planned Parenthood. The Non profit
spends more in preventing and treating women with STDs and STIs, as well as providing
contraception methods Thus, the federal funding cut would be a horrible decision for the U.S
Government to go through with, as

Algae Island after days on the lifeboat. Religion is a worship or belief of a superhuman controlling
power, like God. Algae Island symbolizes religion. In the beginning, when Pi was on the lifeboat he
did not have the will to survive and wanted to do find land with fresh food and drinks. He was
calling all his gods for help. Before finding Algae Island, he says, It s no use. Today I die. I will die
today. (Martel 126). But as soon as he sees land, he says I saw trees. I did not react. I was certain
it was an illusion. ... They grew to be a forest... a low lying island. I pushed myself up. I
continued to disbelieve my eyes ... The trees were beautiful. (Martel 140). Pi was hoping to find
land and finally did. He felt safe at the Algae Island. People turn to religion for safety and for a
normal life, Pi felt safe and normal when he was in Algae Island. People hope to get guidance
and help during their toughest time and for Pi, he comes across this land in the most time of
need. It provided him with everything he needed to survive. It seemed like a paradise for him
after the horror in the lifeboat. This is important because the island was one of the reasons why he
is still alive. He was able to nourish

Migrant Privileges And Refugee Rights
Migrants vs. Refugees Warsan Shire, a British poet born to Somali parents in Kenya, once said, No
one leaves home, unless home is the mouth of a shark. This quote speaks to the heart of our topic,
migrants vs. refugees, because it defines the situation that millions of people find themselves in on
a quotidian basis. For example, the sea of refugees currently flooding out of Syria are leaving their
homeland, not for economic prosperity, but because of the imminent danger that surrounds them.
Likewise, a common misconception derived from The Grapes of Wrath, or TGOW, is that the Joad
family is a family of migrants, but it would be more appropriate to define them as refugees, which
is important, not just for fidelity, but because there is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The banks were depicted as corrupt entities that are solely interested in the money and were
willing to commit cruel acts in order to profit. When explaining the cruelty of the banks to the
farmer families, the owner man clarifies, But you see, a bank or a company can t do that,
because those creatures don t breathe air, don t eat side meat. They breathe profits; they eat the
interest on money. If they don t get it, they die the way you die without air, without side meat
(Steinbeck 22). Because the Joad family was forcibly removed from their land in Oklahoma, they
needed to migrate to California in order to survive. Were they not to relocate, they would face dire
consequences, such as being unable to feed themselves or provide themselves with a shelter.
Whereas a migrant relocates in search of economic prosperity, refugees like the Joad family
relocate because they are facing persecution, and therefore, unable to adequately survive with the
limited resources. Portrayed as an era filled with economic hardships and cruelty, the Dust Bowl
caused various hardships that primarily affected the farming class of society. The Dust Bowl was a
period of time during the 1930 s in which dust storms

Wolf Animals
Wolves are some of the world s most charismatic and controversial animals. Highly intelligent
and adaptable. They hunt and play together in close knit packs, sometimes roaming over
hundreds of square miles. A wolves behavior, ecology, and conservation is very interesting and
helps you know how they survive knowing they are endangered. A wolf s behavior varies upon
their packs and climate. Several wolves run in packs than by themselves. The Alpha in the pack
helps teach the young how to hunt and protect their own. When there is a disagreement in the pack
the Alpha makes a choice that whoever leaves goes and finds another pack before they get trapped

Wolves were losing habitat to agricultural development, and farmers and ranchers shot, trapped,
and poisoned them to protect livestock and promote the abundance of elk. Several wolves went
to go stay in a very cold climate where they could have rabbits, squirrels, deer, and several other
animals for food. Wolves can survive in very cold weather because they breed quickly. During
the fall wolves would get ready for the winter by growing their under fur. The insulated
undercoat helps keep wolves warm and dry during the winter in the cold climate. Also, before
winter hits, the males go out and hunt most of the fall to have enough food during the winter.
They also go and build a cozy den for them to live in to keep their pups warm and cozy. Wolf
pups that were born this spring, usually in late April or early May, grow rapidly in summer and
fall. By winter, the pups need to be large enough to keep up with their pack. The pups don t grow
their undercoat yet until they get older. Once they get older they finally grow their undercoat to stay

The Marketing Strategy Of Marco Gianni Shoes Essay
In Marco Gianni Shoes case, basically, the owners did not have any marketing strategy. Because in
order to create a marketing strategy, there are four necessary aspects that must be considered.
First of all, the operators must be aware of their target market and what kind of product they
intend to provide to their target customers. And the next step is to make a decision about what
kind of relationship do the operators intend to form with their customers or suppliers. Thirdly, in
order to create this strategy, what level of investment is required and how will the operators
allocate and locate the required resources. Finally the operators must have detailed objectives and
action plans (David, 2015a).
It is clear that the operators of Marco Gianni Shoes did not consider all of these four aspects.
Marco Gianni Shoes opened in a fashion center of Auckland, it is a fantastic location, plenty of
customers passing by their store every day. But the owners Leo and Josth really messed up with
their market positioning. They never considered what customer segmentation they are going to
focus. And they did not think about what are the appropriate products for this customer
segmentation. So the shop was made by an Italian designed images, low price shoes that are coming
from Chinese manufacture and a very horrible indoor decoration which does not fit the high street
environment.
For the second aspect, Leo and Josth had no intention to build any relationship with both their

Dantes Revenge
Tears, bloodshed, death, sorrow... all dreadful aspects of an unfortunate life, the very mention of
which can cause the faint hearted to tremble in fear. However, one man, Edmond
Dantes, grins devilishly at the idea of such tragedies striking those who wronged him. Dantes is the
main character in the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Edmond started out
as a happy young man that never missed an opportunity to help uplift others, but as the story
progressed and Edmond fell victim to his devious peers he became much more sinister. So it s
not surprising that at one point he snapped and swore to seek vengeance on the people who had

The Argument Behind The Torts Of Trespass
The rationale behind the torts of trespass to the person are that they protect the inviolability of

law in question is trespass to the person and whether the persons mentioned in the scenario have

The case of Ireland extended the notion that a physical act is not required when it was decided that
subjecting someone to silent phone calls could means assault could be enough. One could presume
that future judges could extend that notion to other silent means. The effect of the defendant s
action must be to produce a state of fear of immediate unlawful violence. The fear that is produced
must however be reasonable immediate as in Thomas where threats by pickets to miners on a bus
were not assault because the threat was not immediate due to the separation between the two sides
and thus had no means to carry out the threat. Individual liability will now be examined Sharon s
threat to bitch slap Cheryl good and proper could amount to an assault as it is a clear and intentional
threat of a battery to Sharon. Costanza held that threats and words can amount to an assault without
the need for menacing movements to be the sole cause of harm. Sharon s statement were it not for
the presence of other staff would be sufficient to avoid liability Turberville, she does not have the
intent to carry out the threat immediately which negates potential liability for battery as in Thomas

My Definition Of Normal
What is considered normal? Everyone today yearns to be considered normal, but what exactly
are they striving for? Found in the dictionary, the definition of normal is: an adjective; usual;
conforming to the usual standard, type, or custom. But, how can anything be considered normal
if no two people are exactly the same? Norms form a society. They are the standards by which
people live by. Growing up in Rhode Island, my experience has been with the American
contemporary society. Our society has to put labels on everything and everyone in order to
function. There are different norms for the way we look and act. Our society has set an extremely
high standard of normality with appearance. People believe that the norm for appearance,... Show

They care about the clothes, the looks, and what people thought of them, while my sister did not
care how she dressed or if what approved of what she was doing. All she cared about was having
what she determined to be fun. While most people looked at her as being a nerd, I look at her as
being a cool person who was content with her life.
This experience made me start questioning the idea of normality. I realized that norms measure a
person s happiness. If a person is normal, then he or she has found security and happiness. But,
what about the rest of us? Just because I have not achieved, and in most cases unwilling to
achieve, the norms of society, does this make me inferior to the norms? Beside myself, many
people have internally agonized over the idea of norms and how they serve society, especially
dealing with appearances. Everyone comes to a point when they evaluate their lives against these
standards. Often times, in a person s quest for normality, they have to conform and try to destroy
their differences from what they perceive to be normal. Before they realize they are different, they
are, in a sense, content with their lives. This idea can be found my many writings such as
Elizabeth MacDonald s Odalique. My hair is short can less feminine at this time, my face rounder,

A Comaprison of the Miller s Tale and Merchant s Tale
Comparing Miller s Tale and Merchant s Tale
Alison in the Miller s Tale and May of the Merchant s Tale are similar in several ways. Both are
young women who have married men much older than themselves. They both become involved
with young, manipulative men. They also conspire to and do cuckold their husbands. This is not
what marriage is about and it is demonstrated in both tales. What makes the Miller s Tale bawdy
comedy and the Merchant s tale bitter satire is in the characterization. In the Miller s tale we are
giving stereotyped characters. The principals are cardboard cut outs sent into farcical motion. The
Merchant s Tale gives us much more background and detail of the character s lives. The reader is

1851 53). This quote follows distasteful descriptions of January who eagerly awaits May in bed.
The reader is privy to none of this with Alison.
It does not take much persuasion on Nicholas part to talk Alison into having an affair with her. The
idea of tricking her husband is a game for her. With impish delight she conspires with Nicholas the
outlandish plot of convincing her husband that a great flood is coming. With her husband safety
ensconced in a bathtub hanging from the roof, Alison plays with Nicholas. And it is play for then
we have the quot;kissing quot; scene with Absalom. Alison is having fun with the whole situation,
it is just a great time for her.
May does not love Damien any more than she loves January. He is just a better, convenient
alternative. We know she cares not for Damien as when she receives a love letter from him she
easily disposes it in the privy. It is easy to see that her motivation for adultery is really one of
revenge and not out of affection for Damien. January assaulted her by the mere fact of marrying
her. This is satire on the whole theme of courtly love. This feeling of revenge on her part is further
demonstrated in the cuckold scene.
May deceives January quite wickedly in the garden. Yet for the reader we can not fault her for it.
January has that garden for the purpose of licentious behavior. It is there so he can have May
sexually in the way he wants her. She

The Benefits
Players will find that there are plenty of benefits when it comes to using bitcoin at an online
casino. You won t have to go far to hear of why it makes sense to start using bitcoin when gambling
online. First off, using bitcoin reduces and in some cases eliminates the charges usually associated
with moving money around and between online casinos. It also means that you won t need to
submit bank or credit/debit card information to your online casino operator, increasing anonymity.
The Choices
Bitcoin has actually benefited the online casino industry from multiple standpoints, what often goes
unnoticed is the increase in casino variety it is providing. The costs of staring a small business
through bitcoin results in lower costs due to the lack of financial institution involvement. When you
partner that up with the fact that an online casino only requires a small website, bankroll, and office
to launch, you can begin to understand how bitcoin is helping further variety in the world of online
casino gambling.
The Future
What bitcoin is bringing to the world of online casino is a new dimension and with it a brand new
way of thinking. The alternative currency is working to diversify the industry by introducing new
casinos and brand new concepts. Bitcoin within the world of online gambling is still in its infant

James Cook Was A Man Of Many Accomplishments
James Cook was a man of many accomplishments. As an 18th century explorer and navigator,
Captain Cook discovered, mapped, and charted New Zealand and Australia on his ship
Endeavor. Later, his voyages provided the first accurate map of the Pacific. Scholar, Alistair
Maclean wrote, it was not what Cook said or thought that raised him to the ranks of the
immortals: it was what he did (Maclean 11). Cooks vast accomplishments have been studied and
analyzed by many historians, one of whom even dedicated four decades of his life on his research
of Cook. Some think that James Cookwas a genius (Beaglehole 702), as well as the last of the
great early navigators and the first of the modern scientific explorers (Gould 15). Most historians
would agree with these statements but still question some of his actions. Other historians, question

Throughout the story the respondent is left wondering the reason behind the family s silence
towards each other. This statement only reinforces the idea that the core text, My Place, clearly
depicts how the journey is the reward. Sally Morgan uses a wide range of different techniques to
convey her physical and internal movement to disclose her family heritage and her own identity.
The book itself is structured in a completely original format. Sally has managed to make her
story stand out by separating each individual story, thus, the book is separated into her own
story, her Uncle Arthur s story, her mother s story and finally, her grandmother s story. It must be
noted that inner journeys are plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that no one can
escape. As Robert Frost says in В‘The Road Not Taken , В‘Two roads diverged in a yellow
wood. In Sally s quest for information, she met a lady called В‘Elsie who gave her a great depth
and insight into her Grandmother and the past. In Sally s mind, her journey was definitely
rewarded and this made her feel В‘full inside . Sally s mother, Gladys, had also found an new

rewarded, because in her heart she realized that unless the family went on such an epic journey
В‘we never would have known our place .

Dora Maar s Bust Of A Woman
Pablo Picasso s muse of almost ten years, Dora Maar, was depicted many times throughout his
paintings and sculptures (Riding). In his 1941 oil on canvas painting, Bust of a Woman (Dora
Maar), Picasso looked to his muse once again for inspiration. Neither one of Picasso s most
famous, nor best paintings, Bust of a Woman still tells a story of the time and place of a
tumultuous artist muse relationship encapsulated by Picasso s surrealist expression in Nazi
occupied France during World War II. On its face, Bust of a Woman appears secular Dora Maar
is not obviously representative of any sort of entity. However, Picasso did place her on a
pedestal for a time and I wonder if he intentionally back lit her, painting the light around her head

during this time because it had a certain type of twang to the sound. Surf music began as
instrumental dance music in the 60 s and the sound was mostly dominated by electric guitar. The
music was at a medium to fast tempo so everyone could dance to and have a good time. Surf
music was originated in southern California because surfing was very popular on the West Coast.
The Beach Boys, The Challengers, The Surfaris and The Lively Ones are names of just a few of

Analysis Of David Foster Wallace s Consider The Lobster
In Consider the Lobster, David Foster Wallace asks his readers to consider if eating lobsters or
other animals is ethical. He describes how lobsters show a preference to not be boiled by their
efforts to avoid or escape the pan. He argues that this preference is proof that the lobster suffers
or feels pain. However, he ignores the fact that the same argument can be made about plants.
While working in landscaping, I discovered that grasses produce a chemical in distress right
before they are cut from a lawnmower or attacked by insects. This shows that the grass prefers to
not be cut or eaten just as the lobsterdid. As humans, we must eat either plants or animals to
survive. If both plants and animals feel pain and show a preference to live,... Show more content on

We all have a moral obligation to attempt to leave the world in a better place for future
generations. While this is an impossible task, by making an attempt we will leave it better off
than if we did not try. Overfishing has endangered cod, salmon, bluefin tuna, halibut, and
countless other species. Primates, lions, elephants, and dolphins are all endangered, but are still
a source of food in some countries. If we don t make changes soon our children and
grandchildren may never have the opportunity to see these animals. It is unethical to endanger
the existence of any plant or animal by eating it. There are some cases where eating an
endangered plant or animal is beneficial. In The World s Most Endangered Food, Rachel Nuwer
discusses how mass production farming is causing some breeds of animals and varieties of
plants to go extinct. Farmers are only using a couple of breeds or varieties to maximize profits.
Ninety percent of cattle used in the dairy industry now come from one breed (Nuwer). In the
United States, eighty six percent of apple varieties from historical records are now extinct and
several more are endangered (Nuwer). In these cases, the food is endangered due to lack of
demand. Purchasing and eating these foods may actually help keep them from going extinct. As
global warming continues to change our weather, keeping these plants and animals from going
extinct could play a

The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s...
The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Novel, The House of the Seven Gables
People in society live in a masquerade. Everyone wears a decoratively adorned mask that displays
beauty, purity, and service. However, behind the mask lies on the inside of all society. One will
stop at nothing in order to be well liked, thus becoming hypocrites. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel,
The House of the Seven Gables, the narrator uses intense diction, a vivid selection of detail, and a
shocking tone to reveal that the character of Judge Pyncheon resembles perfection on the outside,
yet darker traits sit latent on the inside.
The narrator uses intense diction to describe Judge Pyncheon s character as near perfection. He
reflects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pyncheon is always aware of his form as well as his appearance towards others like broad
benevolence, and a scrupulous attention to the rich and poor. The narrator suddenly transitions
from Judge Pyncheon s admirably arranged life to his early and reckless youth. Nathaniel
Hawthorne ultimately describes Pyncheon s looking glass image, his party mask. This hard, cold
man can only be brought down by the public loss of interest in him. The intensity of the narrator s
diction makes the Judge s contrasting inner and outer characters obvious and blatant.
A vivid selection of detail provides perfect evidence to Judge Pyncheon s unsightly hypocrisy.
Hawthorne pays close attention to Pyncheon s work life, social world, and conspicuous
appearances. At the same time, he elaborates on his wonderful involvement, his pursuing work
ethic, and his superb manner and attire towards others. However, it is not the superficial attributes
that Hawthorne pays attention to... it is the subliminal side of the Judge that he disregards. What
does Judge Pyncheon do in his leisure time when the public eye is not trampling in his world?
The Judge s splendid rubbish is only a mere reflection he wants society to witness. Because of the
narrator s selection of detail, Judge Pyncheon s secret existence soars to the surface.
A shocking and disappointing tone exposes Judge Pyncheon s active and subtle conscience.
Hawthorne is loathing

Subnatial Killers In Halloween And Wes Craven s A...
In every horror film, there is always a serial killer or supernatural being terrorizing an innocent
group of individuals. Films such as John Carpenter s Halloween and Wes Craven s A Nightmare
on Elm Street involve supernaturally based serial killers who commit murders in the name of
revenge. The gory nature and explicit violence lead people to wonder why these monsters are
created. Deep in the typical human subconscious, there are fears and impulses that can only be
released through these films. When we watch horror films, we try our hardest to relate to the
victims only to find out that we are more connected to the villain. Each time the killer slits the
blonde cheerleaders throat or the demon drags the handsome football star to the greatest depths of
hell, we feel as if it is well deserved. These scenes allow us to temporarily descend into the
beautiful art of absurdity, which lies within our minds, without physically hurting another person.
Stephen King states in his essay titled Why We Crave Horror Movies that The potential lyncher is
in almost all of us (excluding saints, past and present; but then, most saints have been crazy in their
own ways), and every now and then, he has to let loose to screamand roll around in the grass. King
is implying that even the sanest man has a negative impulse stored deeply in his subconscious.
Although a person may seem sane to the public, they are capable of committing the most heinous
crimes known to humanity, and may even think

Evidence Of Momentum Effect On The Market, Asian Markets,...
2 Evidence of Momentum Effect
The following presents the studies examined on the momentum effect in several markets. The
markets have been divided into the United States market, European market, Asian market, and
emerging market.
2.1 Portfolio formation
The most commonly used method in the literature to investigate the existence of momentum effect
was from the study by Jegadeesh and Titman (1993). In this method, the strategy was selecting
stocks based on returns in the past J months and holding them for K months (J month/K month
strategy). It was constructed as follows: At the beginning of each month t during the sample period,
stocks were ranked in ascending order based on their returns in the past J months. J was the
formation period set at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. The portfolio with the highest past returns was called
the winners decile and it contained the best 10% of the sample firms, whereas the portfolio with the
lowest pasts return was called the losers decile and it contained the worst 10% of the sample firms.
In each month t, the momentum strategy bought the winners decile and sold the losers decile, and
then held for K months. K was the holding period set at 3,6,9 and 12 months. Lastly, the strategy
closed out the position started from t K. To increase the robustness of the test, the strategy usually
included portfolios with overlapping holding periods, where in any given month t, the strategy held
a group of portfolios that were selected in the current month,

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s Art Collection
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s art collection blends history and culture to aesthetically
define a single individual: Isabella Stewart Gardner. From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner
courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese
Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her
personal collection of masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th
century Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate vision
of her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance revival architect,
Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance
ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella
Stewart Gardners fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings
were visually pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s
choice to create a museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this
Renaissance mindset can be translated into her modern context when crafting her own legacy.
The exterior of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is drastically more modest than the interior. In
the same fashion as the traditional palazzos of the Renaissance, the masonry is smooth and
understated. The flat roof resembles that of the Palazzo

The Differences Between Buddhism And Buddhism
Renowned boxer Muhammad Ali once stated, Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams they all have
different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do they all contain truths . Ali s words
remain an important lesson to learn from new disputes and violent events flood the news daily, and
with each passing day, people continue to argue the differences between the teachings of their
spiritual leaders. Most of them even tend to look over or ignore the vague connections these leaders
share. Whether it is Siddhartha Gautama or the Buddha , Muhammad, Jesus, or even Abraham,
there are bound to be some parallels between these founding fathers of religion. Among the
numerous spiritual groups that exist in the world, Christianity and Buddhismare two religions that,
in actuality, share many similarities. When one is able to look past the differences, it is plain to see
that their spiritual leaders, Jesus and Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Gautama Buddhaor the
Buddha ), were alike in more ways than one. Both Jesus and the Buddha shared connections in their
accentuation of leading humble, righteous lives, their constant rejection of Satan and his advances,
and in the fact that the religions they founded both had roots in the ones they were raised with.
Jesus and the Buddha were adamant believers in living in a humble, upright manner, with a strong
detachment from material goods and money. Siddhartha Gautama was the Buddha s given name
before he became known as

Only one year after the grand opening of EuroDisneyland, Robert Fitzpatrick left his position as
EuroDisney s chairperson, citing a desire to start his own consulting firm. In April 1993, Philippe

publicly reported a net loss of FFr188 million for the fiscal year ending September 1992, though
cumulative losses through April 1993 approached half a billion dollars.1 The European park also
fell one million visitors short of its goal for the first year of operations, with the French

In 1955, Walt decided to send his entourage of characters into the real world, through the creation
of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Walt s Disneyland dream was to create a place where
people from all over would be able to go for clean, safe fun, unlike the less than wholesome
carnivals of the day.
He wanted a place that would teach both young and old about America s heritage and about the
diversity of the world.
Since July 17, 1955, Disneyland has stood as the icon of Walt s dream a park for family type
entertainment that would provide clean, safe fun. Cleanliness is a high priority. By 8 a.m., when
the park opens, the cleaning crew will have mopped and hosed and dried every sidewalk, every
street, and every floor and counter. This begins at 1 a.m., when more than 350 of the park s 7400
employees commence the daily cleanup routine. This routine includes using steam machines, razor
scrapers, and mops towed by Cushman scooters to literally scour the streets and sidewalks in an
effort to rid them of the chewing gum and other garbage left behind. Other examples of the
emphasis placed on the small details include one person working a full eight hour shift to polish the

Themes In The Allegory Of The Cave
The Allegory of the Cave is a philosophical writing presented by a Greek philosopher named
Plato. The story lead us to explore about the truth of nature and how people perceive the truth.
Plato likens us and the world around us to the prisoners in the cave. By using symbols of
characters, set and actions, he tries to disclose his allegorical meaning. As story goes on, Pluto
reveals his belief on existenceof absolute truthand develops themes of truth and reality .
To begin with, why did Plato used prisoners in chains as characters? Pluto similitude us as the
prisoners who are imprisoned in the cave. The dark cave appears as a virtual prison where we

However, is truth only one in an universe? Who defines what is true and what is false? There is
billions of people on the Earth who have different thoughts and perspectives. I believe truth is
something that can alter depending on different situations and perspectives. The truth can be
changed through series of discovery like the freed prisoner came out to a new reality. As
experience varies among each individual, things that a person come across becomes his or her
knowledge, which will then form truth in personal level. When this truth becomes as a whole, that
can become a truth that everyone believe as a truth. There s a possibility that absolute truth can
change too. Though, what Plato is telling us is that people should aspire for knowing greater truths
and they should go above and beyond traditional ways of thinking we usually

An Analysis Of Dean Spade s Normal Life
The Western thought functions through strongly rooted beliefs that have been prevalent for so
long, that the accuracy goes unquestioned. But just because it has gone on for so long, does not
mean it is the most efficient way of processing the world. The basis of biological determinism is
used to interpret and understand members of society, using predetermined categorizes to
comprehend identity. Furthermore, it is important to realize that using such a methodology for
judgment leads to perceiving race, gender, sexuality, and other identity markers in such a way that
is exclusive and unjust. Viewing society in regard to biology has various ramifications that impact
the lives of every individual. By functioning through biological determinism,... Show more content

In the book Normal Life, Dean Spade explains that the dispersion of power helps the creation of
norms that distribute vulnerability and security (4). This illustrates that not only does biology
determine who receives power and who doesn t, it also influences the norms that society upholds.
Through this perspective, biology determines how much a person is worth and predicts their
future. For those who do not have the ideal biology, they are left powerless and stranded in their
fixed conditions. Furthermore, those who are defined to be powerful must be protected from those
others (Spade, 5). This operation of norms is used to justify the exclusion of powerless populations
from programs that distribute wealth and life chances and attempts to validate the targeting of these
same populations for imprisonment and violence (Spade, 5). In reality, biology destines some
groups to flourish, to acquire enhanced opportunities, and to be treated in a way that benefits their
success. At the cost of this group, comes the groups that are being held back and facing an
inevitable doomed future; the norms produce security for some population and vulnerability for
others (Spade, 5). Through dividing power based on individuals biology, the sexist and racist
mindsets are reinforced and the conditions of violence, exploitation, and poverty are upheld (Spade,
5). The quantity of power impact[s] how we know our selves as subjects through these systems of
meaning and control the ways we understand our own bodies, the things we believe about ourselves
and our relationships with other people and with institutions, and the ways we imagine change and
transformation (Spade, 6). The amount of power one obtains indicates to themselves, and to others,
how much control and worth they have within society. It also influences how situations are
interpreted, formation of personal beliefs, and

Bay Area Crisis
The Bay Area has developed into one of the most rapidly increasing localized economies in the
United States, where prices of everything have increased at a unprecedented rate. Since the
inventions of the competing Apple and Microsoft companies started in the 1970s, technology has
flourished and developed one of the most expensive areas in the world to live in. Because of the
high paying jobs, it has attracted an unprecedented amount of people, skyrocketing the demand of
housing in the area. This would ultimately cause a massive inflation that mainly affected home
prices (and medical care). A debate has ensued due to whether the massive inflation related to
housing is beneficial or detrimental to society as a whole. The rapid increase of demand... Show

There are conditions that set whether it would be good or bad for a person; such as financial
position, current living situation, occupation, and job security. For example, someone who is
tenured and making a seven figure income while living in a mansion in the hills may see the
situation a little differently than someone working minimum wage and trying to avoid home
eviction. The most important part of this is to understand the reasoning as to why some feel one
way on the situation and others see it differently. To consider the situation from an objective
standpoint is important, but also breaking down both sides of it. From one side, you can see the
economic benefits of it, and the other side you can see how people may be struggling to survive.

Decision Making Tools For The Future State Of Nature
Decision Making Tools The alarm clock sounds off its fanfare and once again a new day of
making decisions is upon you. The choices you now have are continue to sleep in or wake up
and get ready for the day. Both of these alternatives will determine a future outcome, in this case,
if you choose to sleep in you may end up running behind on your scheduled activities. When you
make the choice to get out of bed you are taking into account what the positive future state of
nature will be if you proactively prepare for the day. The fact that you chose to get out of bed
denotes that you mentally assessed all the possible alternatives and decided getting ready is the
choice that leads to the best possible outcome in the future. You may have contemplated the
choice to stay in bed and considered that the warm embrace of your bed was more important than
making it to work on time. No matter what the decision is we all use logic to choose between
two or more alternatives and, based on the probable future state of nature, make the choice
which best suits our need. In the business world, managers are placed in a position to make
decisions. The request for a decision can come from different areas. A superior may request a
manager to make a decision that impacts the organization in some way. In most cases this type of
decision must be made by the appointed manager and is not eligible for delegation. There may be
some cases when a subordinate may ask the manager to make a decision in order

Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation
Introduction
The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality.
Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions.
Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a
graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this
group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling
points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through
hands on experimentation.
Materials
The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection
interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula,
graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,)
400.00ml of distilled water (H2O)
Procedure
The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring
stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced
directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to
measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non control tests, glucose and
table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto
the hotplate, 1.61 grams of

  • 2. Southwest Airlines Aphorism Introduction Many organizations implement a strategic plan to grow their company or take a step towards success. The result of that plan is either efficacious or a failure. Southwest Airlines Corporation is no exception to the rule. Their success is based on a few key components that have kept them as a profitable company, with happy employees and customers. History and mission of the organization Southwest Airlines Corporation, which was essentially established in 1971, has become one of the most well known airlines to date. The cofounder, Herb Kelleher, had a simple motto to follow when he began the company: If you get your passengers to their destinations when they want to get there, on time, at the lowest possible fares, and make darn sure they have a good time doing it, people will fly your airline (About Southwest, n.d., p. 1). Kelleher emphasizes about this in his interview with Chuck Lucier, a senior vice president emeritus of Booz Allen Hamilton. Kelleher speaks about the profitability of Southwest, about the reliability of its employers, and the dependability of customers to be able to fly at the lowest rate possible and to be able to travel within the timeframe that they demand (Lucier, 2004, paras. 1 7). In my personal experiences, in flying on a number of flights with several different airlines, I have found the mission statement to be true. I use Southwest Airlines as a starting point to look for flights simple because of their low fares are usually the best bargain, in addition to their flexible flight ... Stereotyping is a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality. It allows a person s mind to work properly and for the human brain to be able to recognize, process, store and then recall the information when needed. It can also be used in racial, political, and religious ways and many more ways. Stereotyping in a racial way is judging people by the color of their skin, where they come from, or the language they speak. • 8. Analysis of the Theme of Survival in Auschwitz Essay Survival in Auschwitz tells of the horrifying and inhuman conditions of life in the Auschwitz death camp as personally witnessed and experienced by the author, Primo Levi. Levi is an Italian Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty five, was arrested with an Italian resistance group and sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi endured the cruel and inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to die. Levi thoroughly presents the hopeless existence of the prisoners in Auschwitz, whose most basic human rights were stripped away, when in Chapter 2 he states, Imagine now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Chapter 6, Levi tells how Kapos, beat us from pure bestiality and violence, but others beat us when we are under a load almost lovingly, accompanying the blows with exhortations, as cart drivers do with willing horses (67). A further aspect of Survival in Auschwitz that reinforces the dehumanizing effect of the death camp on the Jewish prisoners is the constant presence of hunger and starvation among the prisoners. Food and its acquisition and consumption are a constant topic that Primo Levi discusses because it constantly occupied the minds of most prisoners. Levi states, We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat bread so as not to lose the crumbs (33). Bread and soup are the only things prisoners in the camp receive and whether you are served soup from the top or the bottom is of great importance. The prisoners would try to get soup from the bottom half of the vat because soup from the upper portion is mostly watery broth whereas soup from the bottom portion contains more vegetables pieces (33). The insatiable desire for food would lead prisoners to act in very animalistic ways. Upon waking up in the morning, prisoners would quickly make their beds and then run to the latrines urinating while they run to save time, because within five minutes begins the ... Materialistic Items In The Great Gatsby Materialistic possessions became the center of popularity in the 1920 s, life became all about who could get the most Women and throw the biggest party. Love and social status were the unattainable dreams of Myrtle, the status driven cheater; Wilson, the shooter; and Gatsby; the Daisy craving self made millionaire. • 11. Why Should Animal Cloning Be Banned Human and animal cloning should be banned, that s what i believe. Animal cloning is not as bad as human cloning but it should be banned. The procedure to clone a human or a animal is difficult, risky, and most important expensive. Also many people are against it and if it becomes legal or official it could cause polemics between our people and religions. Human cloning is a very controversial theme. The reason why it is controversial is because of their religion beliefs. Many religions do not approve human nor animal cloning. Human cloning could disrupt the peace between our citizens due to their beliefs. Human cloning (reproductive) requires of a woman s body, and if cloning is approved and made legal or official, in a couple of years there would be an exploration of women s bodies. Just how Bush the ex president of the United States of America said in the article President Bush calls on Senate to Back Human Cloning Ban. In the article What Ever Happened to Cloning? it gave us a good reason why cloning is bad. Leonard (the writer) stated that a study revealed that the sheep created from the same biological matter used to make Dolly, the first cloned mammal, were aging normally and living healthful crumbling and apparently widely held impression that cloning created unhealthy animals. This study is very important because if it creates unhealthy humans. This type of cloning should be banned until it s totally safe, not 80% or 90%, 100% safe. Also a cloned child would have to live a depressing childhood if the religious people around him know he/she is a cloned child, this children would most likely live a dark life. Animal cloning is not such a good idea too. As how the article what ever happened to cloning? stated, cloning makes unhealthy animals. There is no reason to clone common animals like cats, dogs, or even birds. Why clone animals that can probably develop an unhealthy life. Instead of cloning cats and dogs, why not adopt the ones that don t have a home? There are many of them out there in the streets and in dog pounds that need a home, a lovely owner. There are not just a couple of them, there are hundreds and thousands of them dying out there, and we are just going to clone the ones that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What started out as oral tales eventually evolved into written fairy tales. People now began to write stories for the young children that would teach them important life lessons that would be of major importance to them in the years to come. These lessons that were introduced into fairytales played an important role in the development of their unshaped minds because these tales would make it easier from to transition children into adolescence, and eventually into adults. However, as these fairy tales evolved from being oral to written society also evolved alongside with it. Society become became more advanced and sophisticated that the lessons that once had great meaning in a way became obsolete. In many instances the lessons that were preached in the tales degraded the roles of women by reducing to an object of marriage. It s important to remember that fairytales were not intend to be seen as negative, in fact they originated as a means of good but the evolution of society and ever so changing mindset of people has caused people to look at these fairytales in a new scope. As stated in the second reading, the separation of the two would result in forms of illiberal democracy or liberal autocracy. Illiberal democracy would have the electoral process of a thin democracy, but will likely overlook protecting the citizens rights and focus on accumulating power. A liberal autocracy may not allow much say into who or what is spearheading the nation, but will allow many qualities seen in a thick democracy. Illiberal democracies may also eventually spiral into disarray along with horizontal and vertical usurpation. The Mexico City Policy known as the gag rule policy by abortionrights organizations, is a U.S government policy blocking US federal funding for non governmental organizations that provide abortion counselling or referrals, and advocate to decriminalize abortion or expand abortion services. As can be seen in the Planned Parenthood summary of service 2016 Image and 2014 Graph in the appendix, very little of Planned Parenthood s service relate to abortions, with as little as 3% being the average over the past 3 years. In addition the Images below, under Planned Parenthood Revenue Sources and Service Graphs, show the Non profit receiving $528.4 million in Government funding and only 3% of services related to abortions. If it is concluded that all the funding for abortions comes from the Government, then $15.74 million of Government money is spent on abortions. However, it is very unlikely that it all comes from one source meaning that the amount of government money spent on abortions is much less than $15 million. Due to the lack of funding going towards abortions, Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said Let s be clear: Federal funds already do not pay for abortions (Haberman, 2017). Overall, based on the graphs, it is quite noticeable that Planned Parenthood s impact is not all abortions, rather abortions are a small part of Planned Parenthood. Found in the dictionary, the definition of normal is: an adjective; usual; conforming to the usual standard, type, or custom. But, how can anything be considered normal if no two people are exactly the same? Norms form a society. They are the standards by which people live by. Growing up in Rhode Island, my experience has been with the American contemporary society. Our society has to put labels on everything and everyone in order to function. There are different norms for the way we look and act. Our society has set an extremely high standard of normality with appearance. People believe that the norm for appearance,... But, what about the rest of us? Just because I have not achieved, and in most cases unwilling to achieve, the norms of society, does this make me inferior to the norms? In the Miller s tale we are giving stereotyped characters. The principals are cardboard cut outs sent into farcical motion. The Merchant s Tale gives us much more background and detail of the character s lives. The reader is more involved and can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1851 53). It does not take much persuasion on Nicholas part to talk Alison into having an affair with her. The idea of tricking her husband is a game for her. With impish delight she conspires with Nicholas the outlandish plot of convincing her husband that a great flood is coming. With her husband safety ensconced in a bathtub hanging from the roof, Alison plays with Nicholas. And it is play for then we have the quot;kissing quot; scene with Absalom. Alison is having fun with the whole situation, it is just a great time for her. May does not love Damien any more than she loves January. He is just a better, convenient alternative. We know she cares not for Damien as when she receives a love letter from him she easily disposes it in the privy. It is easy to see that her motivation for adultery is really one of revenge and not out of affection for Damien. January assaulted her by the mere fact of marrying her. This is satire on the whole theme of courtly love. This feeling of revenge on her part is further demonstrated in the cuckold scene. May deceives January quite wickedly in the garden. As an 18th century explorer and navigator, Captain Cook discovered, mapped, and charted New Zealand and Australia on his ship Endeavor. Later, his voyages provided the first accurate map of the Pacific. Scholar, Alistair Maclean wrote, it was not what Cook said or thought that raised him to the ranks of the immortals: it was what he did (Maclean 11). Cooks vast accomplishments have been studied and analyzed by many historians, one of whom even dedicated four decades of his life on his research of Cook. Some think that James Cookwas a genius (Beaglehole 702), as well as the last of the great early navigators and the first of the modern scientific explorers (Gould 15). Most historians would agree with these statements but still question some of his actions. Other historians, question his findings, accomplishments, and legacy. The present paper will examine books and articles written by historians in different time periods to get a sense of the legacy of Captain James Cook and its controversies. Although many books have been written about James Cook, many scholars view Beaglehole s The Life of Captain James Cook as the acknowledged classic work on the subject matter. He describes how lobsters show a preference to not be boiled by their efforts to avoid or escape the pan. He argues that this preference is proof that the lobster suffers or feels pain. Films such as John Carpenter s Halloween and Wes Craven s A Nightmare on Elm Street involve supernaturally based serial killers who commit murders in the name of revenge. The gory nature and explicit violence lead people to wonder why these monsters are created. Deep in the typical human subconscious, there are fears and impulses that can only be released through these films. When we watch horror films, we try our hardest to relate to the victims only to find out that we are more connected to the villain. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s Art Collection The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s art collection blends history and culture to aesthetically define a single individual: Isabella Stewart Gardner. From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her personal collection of masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th century Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate vision of her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance revival architect, Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella Stewart Gardners fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings were visually pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s choice to create a museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this Renaissance mindset can be translated into her modern context when crafting her own legacy. In the book Normal Life, Dean Spade explains that the dispersion of power helps the creation of norms that distribute vulnerability and security (4). This illustrates that not only does biology determine who receives power and who doesn t, it also influences the norms that society upholds. Through this perspective, biology determines how much a person is worth and predicts their future. For those who do not have the ideal biology, they are left powerless and stranded in their fixed conditions. Furthermore, those who are defined to be powerful must be protected from those others (Spade, 5). This operation of norms is used to justify the exclusion of powerless populations from programs that distribute wealth and life chances and attempts to validate the targeting of these same populations for imprisonment and violence (Spade, 5). In reality, biology destines some groups to flourish, to acquire enhanced opportunities, and to be treated in a way that benefits their success. At the cost of this group, comes the groups that are being held back and facing an inevitable doomed future; the norms produce security for some population and vulnerability for others (Spade, 5). Through dividing power based on individuals biology, the sexist and racist mindsets are reinforced and the conditions of violence, exploitation, and poverty are upheld (Spade, 5). The quantity of power impact[s] how we know our selves as subjects through these systems of meaning and control the ways we understand our own bodies, the things we believe about ourselves and our relationships with other people and with institutions, and the ways we imagine change and transformation (Spade, 6). • 53. Decision Making Tools For The Future State Of Nature Decision Making Tools The alarm clock sounds off its fanfare and once again a new day of making decisions is upon you. The choices you now have are continue to sleep in or wake up and get ready for the day. Both of these alternatives will determine a future outcome, in this case, if you choose to sleep in you may end up running behind on your scheduled activities. When you make the choice to get out of bed you are taking into account what the positive future state of nature will be if you proactively prepare for the day. The fact that you chose to get out of bed denotes that you mentally assessed all the possible alternatives and decided getting ready is the choice that leads to the best possible outcome in the future. You may have contemplated the choice to stay in bed and considered that the warm embrace of your bed was more important than making it to work on time. No matter what the decision is we all use logic to choose between two or more alternatives and, based on the probable future state of nature, make the choice which best suits our need. • 55. Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation Introduction The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality. Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions. Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through hands on experimentation. Materials The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula, graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,) 400.00ml of distilled water (H2O) Procedure The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non control tests, glucose and table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto the hotplate, 1.61 grams of ...
