2. ANTHROPOLOGY
Etymologically, the word anthropology is taken from two Greek words
“Anthropos” which means “man” or “human being” and “logos” or “logia” which
means “to study”. Anthropology then is the scientific study of man or human
being.
It has been defined as the branch of knowledge which deals with the scientific
study of man, his works, his body, his behavior and values, in time and space. It
is the study of physical, social and cultural development and behavior of human
beings since their appearance on earth.
3. Biological Anthropology
Deals with the study of man’s biological foundations, race evolution,
genetic inheritance, racial classifications, human adaptability and variation,
the fossil records of human evolution as well as forensic studies. It relates
biology and culture.
Paleontology
Deals with the study of the nature of races like slavery.
Racial History
Deals with the origin off man through the study of fossil evidence for
human evolution.
4. HumanGenetics
Deals with the study of various ways of inheritance that takes
place in man.
Primatology
Deals with the study of primates or hominids o the genus
Homo, especially Homo Sapiens;
Neuroanthropology
Deals with the study of the evolution of the human brain, and
of course as neurological adaptation of the species in the to its
environment.
5. HumanOsteology
Deals with the study of skeletal materials.
ForensicAnthropology
Deals with the analysis and identification of human remains in the
service of coroners or medical examiners.
Cultural Anthropology
Deals with the investigation, often through long term, intensive field studies, of
the culture and social organization of a particular people: political and economic
organization, law and conflict resolution, patterns of consumption and exchange,
kinship and family structure, gender relations, childrearing and socialization,
religion, mythology, symbolism, language, family and social systems, magic, the
arts, secret societies, and all other forms of cultural behavior.
6. Culture
Way of life of people, man’s social heritage socially transmitted from one generation to another by
means of language, symbols, enculturation, and socialization. Culture is learned, shared, and
transmitted, independently of genetic heritance.
Cultural anthropologist
Are also often called as ethnographists or ethnographers. They describe, analyze and investigate
and the customs, folkways, mores, and forms of social life of human beings, particularly of human
beings, particularly ethnic groups and people with indigenous and primitive way of life.
Linguistics
Systematic study of recorded and unrecorded languages all over the world. It also deals how
culture affects language, and vice versa.
