This study examines how the interaction between a supervisor's leadership style and use of humor impacts interns' attitudes and behaviors. The researchers hypothesized that supervisor humor moderates the relationship between leadership styles (transformational and laissez-faire) and intern outcomes such as satisfaction, stress, negligence, and job acceptance intentions. Using a sample of 164 interns surveyed in two waves, they found humor needs to align with leadership style to predict interns' responses. Affiliative humor interacted differently with styles than aggressive humor. The findings suggest humor should be tailored to leadership style to effectively promote positive attitudes and behaviors in interns.

Human Energy and Immaterial Communication: The missing link for Inspirational...CSCJournals
Why does Harvard Business Review consider the article ‘Pygmalion in Management’ from the 1970s as one of the best in the area of Motivation, and yet there has been negligible research about this topic in the field of leadership? Probably because the Pygmalion Effect can only be studied using complexity sciences. This paper covers the scientific discoveries in the field of human energy in the last century, and connects them to an interdisciplinary analysis of quantum mechanics, bio-fields, neuroplasticity, and epigenetics, in order to give novel explanations of how the Pygmalion Effect happens and how it is essential to understand leadership and vanguard management. Hence, a new leadership soft-skill is constructed: immaterial communication. This new leadership construct is helping reduce the 86% rate (Gallup, 2013) of disengaged workers around the world. A descriptive proposal of operationalizing Immaterial Communication is presented at the end.

How best to sum up our 2016 Workplace Trends? This year, more than ever, our report represents a confluence of forces that can’t be described in one word. We are leaders in an era of ever-increasing complexity and change. Clearly, leadership today requires understanding and foresight across a landscape that is both wide and deep.
This issue of RAE shows four new articles that speaks of different areas of Management, such as evaluation of Brazilian funds, entrepreneurial ecosystems, business-to-business marketing, voluntary disclosure. The Perspectives section presents two reflections, the first presents the current challenges and promising avenues for the field of entrepreneurship research, while the second text addresses the international innovation research agenda.
The edition also completes a review of creative leadership and a bibliographical indication of diversity, identity and inclusion.

These slides were used for my keynote presentation for KU-TU-MU-CU conference on "New Perspectives on Intercultural Communication: Localization and Globalization in English" given at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, on July 30, 2014.
Based on theoretical models, such as those proposed in the studies of McClelland and Spencer and Spencer over the last forty years, this study identifies entrepreneurs’ perception of the impact of the required skills of a job applicant in startups. It uses the snowball sampling technique and direct observation in incubators and accelerators to conduct a qualitative analysis. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the founders and managers of different impact ventures. From the analysis and discussion of this research, some of the skills required in startups are empathy, principles, ethical values, and other attributes of human nature. This study will be of practical value to job seekers, recruiters, and scholars as it suggests the skills that are required in the high-impact market, helping to develop better recruitment and training programs to their business

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
