World Resources And Unequal Distribution
World Resources and Unequal Distribution In a world run by different resources, we will never have
enough for ourselves. In the modern world, resources such as rare earth elements, oil, and water are
always in demand. The United States of America alone consumes more resources and energy than it
produces. But what about other nations? Some nations such as Japan, Great Britain, and South Korea
are industrialized nations with many advantages over resources. Other developing nations such as
Haiti, Ethiopia, Angola, and even Afghanistan are not as industrialized. Why? Many of the world s
resources is almost unable to reach the most poorest and unindustrialized parts of the world. This can
be due to factors such as hostile terrorists, lack of transportation, lack of basic necessities and so forth.
Unequal distribution of resources is not just a world issue but the reason why this exists is because
literally, resources are used more than what is produced and it cannot uphold the current population of
over seven billion. The issues concerning unequal distribution of resources towards poor parts of the
world won t stop others from solving this issue. There are already plans that are taken into action to
help industrialize and strengthen the poor parts of the world. To begin, the unequal distribution of food
can be averted with the right planning of sharing and disbursement. In the past, there were events in
history where the world combated hunger but it was not enough due to

Eve Above Adam Gender Roles
Eve Above Adam:
Deconstruction of Gender Roles in the Context of Detective/Crime Novels
At first glance Ted Dekker s Adam appears to be the typical crime novel. There is a detective (male)
obsessed with solving a mysterious string of murders, ruined marriage, a subordinate female
coworker, and of course all of the victims being female. It is not long before the reader realizes
something is different about this text. The first clue is that the killer is labeled Eve, a traditionally
female name associated with the mother of humanity. The second clue is that the supposed strong
male protagonist is exhibiting reactions to stressful situations that are traditionally considered
effeminate. In addition to this, the male serial killer isn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As is to be expected from a crime novel, the criminal s victims are all initially female. These are
however, not even secondary characters, and is when we look at the more prominent female characters
that tradition is thrown to the wayside. Heather Clark, Daniel s ex wife, is first introduced as being a
woman who was powerless to stop her husband s obsession with a serial killer. She is even depicted as
being so dependent that she becomes obsessed with her husband. This leads to a subsequent obsession
with Eve and Heather s own amateur detective work. Ironically it is Heather that serial killer
communicates with, not Daniel. In fact, the serial killer communicates through her to Daniel. Heather
is the one that receives the warning that if Daniel tries to stop Eve, he will die (Dekker, 23 24). The
reiteration the notion that the male characters need to go through female characters for the information
to gain importance, means that without the female characters the story could not continue. Later in the
novel Daniel is captured by the serial killer and his wife Heather goes to save him. However, she soon
discovers that that Daniel is possessed by Eve and calls a priest, Father Seymour, to try and save him
(Dekker, 315 326). Heather, not Daniel the supposed detective character, is the one who thinks to call
the priest. She realizes his importance in stopping Eve and Alex, Daniel however is still adamantly
against the very idea of supernatural involvement. With the help of Lori Ames and the Priest, Daniel is
eventually rescued and becomes dependent on Heather as a support system following the

Eye Motif in Night by Elie Wiesel
The Soul s Mirror Eyes have guided mankind throughout all history, whether they allowed us to
foresee danger or helped us find our loved ones. They have granted us sight over what would
otherwise be invisible to us. When looking at someone, one can tell how they are feeling by staring
into his or her eyes. Our eyes never lie. Our eyes will often mirror our souls and display our true inner
emotions. In Elie Wiesel s autobiographical narrative, Night, he uses the eye motif to portray
characters true souls. In some parts of the narrative, Night, Wiesel used eyes to display the hope and
positive emotion in characters. In the beginning of the story, eyes were used as an indication of Moche
the Beadle s calmness in the following quote. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His eyes show he is still alive, but his soul s essence is dimmed and now weak; he is near death. The
following event happens before a selection and Akiba Drumer instantly gives up hope. Suddenly his
eyes would become blank, nothing but two open wounds, two pits of terror (Wiesel 82). While Akiba
may still be physically alive, his eyes show how his soul is now dead and overwhelmed by terror; he is
now a mere walking corpse. Elie and his father are seeking shelter from the frozen temperature in the
brick factory in the next scene. His eyes were petrified, his lips withered, decayed (Wiesel 94). Elie s
father s eyes show how he has been reduced to a brittle stone that is about to crack. Elie Wiesel used
eyes as a motif in his narrative, Night, as windows to characters inner souls. He used eyes to assist the
theme of surviving at all costs throughout the story by giving the audience an insight of people s true
emotions and status. Without eyes, we would have been blind to see past characters outer layers of
fake emotion. There is more than the eye can see. One has to look deep into another s eyes to see the
true light or darkness within them.

Civil Rights Act Pros And Cons
Civil Rights Act Following violent demonstrations in Birmingham in 1963, President John F. Kennedy
proposed the Civil Rights Bill (Marsh, 2004). The president took the step as a measure to end the
negative publicity against authorities for using excessive force against protesters. The Civil Rights Act
was signed into law by Kennedy s successor in 1964. The Act was a major victory as it introduced
reforms that undermined the system of racial segregation. It outlawed racial discrimination in voting,
employment, and public service. It also authorized the federal government to take measures to prevent
racial discrimination. The Civil Rights Act was a controversial law given the nature of US politics at
the time (Landau, 2008). The three arms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The timeline of the Civil Rights Movement shows that it started gaining momentum after the ruling,
even though the concerns over racial inequality had existed for a long time. The civil activists used the
ruling as the legal basis for demanding for more concession by the state and local governments
advancing the system of racial segregation. The Rosa Parks incident was one of the immediate
reactions to the ruling. Rosa Park set the stage for civil disobedience and protests against racial
discrimination. The coalition with other social movements gave the Civil Rights Movement more
influence in the calls for change. Religious organizations joined the movement on the view that racial
discrimination was immoral. The Black Power Movement joined on the view that racial
discrimination was against human rights. The coalition brought more supporters to the rights
movement. For instance, the whites were able to join the movement through the religious

No list can comprehend everything. But why they are actually the wonders and what are the factors
which make them to call a wonders? Every wonder has its own history and importance, and they have
some interesting facts related with them. However, the original seven wonders of the world are the
most worthy of our praise and appreciation as they were constructed in an era that was devoid of any
building machinery and done mostly by hand. The true wonder we can say is artistic, mysterious,

King Mausolus ruled a small kingdom in Asia Minor. His queen Artemisia was a beautiful woman
who loved the king a lot. After the death of King Mausolus, she got the most beautiful mausoleum
built in the memory of her loving husband. It was known as the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and
people from far and wide came to visit it. By the year 1494 AD, it was destroyed by a flood. It was
rebuilt but was damaged by an earthquake.
1.6 Collosus of Rhodes: Collosus of Rhodes was built in 290 BC. Collosus of Rhodes was the colossal
statue of the sun god Helios that stood in the ancient Greek city of Rhodes and was one of the Seven
Wonders of the World. After about 56 years it was built, the statue was destroyed by an earthquake. It
fell into the harbor and just the thumb of the statue was visible over the water surface. The king of
Egypt offered to rebuild the statue, but the people of Rhodes refused. This is because they believed
Helios himself threw the statue in water in a fit of rage.
1.7 Lighthouse of Alexandria: Lighthouse of Alexandria was built in 280 BC. The Island of Pharos
was a harbor in Alexandria, Egypt. This lighthouse was built in this harbor and helped ships enter the
harbor safely. This lighthouse is said to have survived for 1500 long years and finally destroyed by an
earthquake in the 1300 s. During its era, it was the tallest man made structure at about 380 to 440 feet

The Religions Of The Middle East
Abrahamic religions, religions that derive from the biblical character Abraham, have three main
religions in the group. The first, and oldest, is Judaism, founded several thousand years ago in the
Middle East; then there is Christianity, the most popular religion in the world, which was founded
shortly after the death of Christ; finally, there is Islam, the second most popular religion in the world,
founded by the prophet Muhammed in the 7th century ACE. Islam has over one billion followers of
the Islamic faith. Although it is one of the most popular religions in the world, many people do not
know much about what Muslims, followers of Islam, believe in. Due to the rising publicity of militant
terrorist groups in the Middle East, Islamophobia has become rampant in many first world countries.
Although the media portrays violent and barbaric acts performed by militant Muslims, a majority of
Muslims do not commit such atrocities and are wrongly persecuted. Only by educating those who do
not know about Islam, can it be assured that Islamophobia will dwindle.
Islam was founded in Saudi Arabia by a prophet named Muhammed. Muhammed is considered to be
the greatest prophet in the Muslim faith, the second greatest prophet in the Muslim faith is considered
to be Jesus Christ himself. The one main, significant difference between Islam and Christianity is that
Muslims do not see Christ as being the Lord, they believe that only Allah, the Arabic name for God, is
the one, true lord.

It Is Shocking How Many Things We Take For Granted
It is shocking how many things we take for granted. We plan out our day, and don t think twice about
how those plans can be taken away or changed in the blink of an eye. I never thought much about it
personally, until I was faced with the surprise, and undeniable truth of my friend s death. I don t think
anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with the dreadful news. No one ever
thinks that something that heartbreaking or shocking would happen to them; no one really puts
themselves in a catastrophic scenario. Losing someone who can t be replaced by anyone else is
probably the hardest thing a person has to overcome.

Democrat Vs Republican
When America was founded there were no parties but just a set of laws known as the constitution. It
was a moral code to live by. Now today because of our freedom to have our own opinions as citizens
we have quickly formed different parties. There are two main parties which are Democrat and
Republican. Each of these parties has different views and where they stand on healthcare, national
defense/security, and economy. Healthcare is a fundamental right that I believe every citizen of the
United States should receive regardless of social class. Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarians view
healthcare differently. Republican views health care to be a lot of money. The health care they want

Republicans believe that raising the defense budget is the only way to restore the health of a defense

the other hand, Democrats are focused on strengthening our defense system. Providing our military

its attempts to act as policeman for the world. We oppose any form of compulsory national service

Effect of Motivation on Employees
CHAPTER 1
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
Human capital has emerged as the most critical firm asset, and the ability to attract motivate and retain
capable employees is essential in organization s innovation and quality improvement (Frye, 2004).
These sentiments are supported by Jung and Hartog, (2007) who suggest that, one way for
organizations to become more innovative is to capitalize on their employees ability to innovate. Jung
and Hartog, continue to argue that employees can help to improve business performance through their
ability to generate ideas and use these as building blocks for new and better products, services and
work processes. Therefore, under new work conditions, to create value, every ... Show more content

These sentiments are echoed by Kreitner and Kinicki (2006) who pose that a good reward system
should attract talented people and motivate and satisfy them once they have joined the organization.
Leadership has existed for as long as people have interacted, and it is present in all cultures no matter
what their economic or social makeup. Leadership is not only a human quality; it is found in primitive
forms in many animal species, from low level vertebrates such as chickens to higher level primates
such as gorillas and whales (Troittier, Wart and Wang, 2008). Leaders have a great influence in the
organizations as they fuel employee motivation by offering benefits and rewards that meet individual
needs Kreitner and Kinicki, 2006 and Yukl, 2002). Kim (2002) suggests that a leader s use of a more
participative management style will result in higher levels of satisfaction among his or her employees.
Job satisfaction is extremely important for the well being of the organization as well as the individual
(Vecchio, 2006). The significance of job satisfaction can be viewed in the context of two decisions
people make about their work. The first is the decisions to join and retain in the organization. The
second is the decision to work hard in pursuit of high levels of task performance (Schermerhorn, Hunt
and Osborn, 2000). People s degree of job satisfaction can range from extreme satisfaction to extreme
dissatisfaction. In addition to having attitudes

Psychology Project The tests related with personality intrigue people because human personality is a
very curious topic for people. Everyone wants to know about their personality and the internet has
become the easiest method to access any personality test that claims to solve your queries about your

machine that has all remarks and conclusions fitted in it. I was no exception to it when I decided to

boring. There was nothing that could make me ponder over some aspect of my own persona. The test

Illegal Drug Abuse And Drugs
Illegal Drug Abuse
For quite a long time, different types of drugs have been used across the globe. Indeed, the different
drugs have been observed to impose varying impacts on users. While some of the drugs are curative
and positive in usage, others are remarkably detrimental and can facilitate the mental and
psychological breakdown of the user and their families. In this respect, many of the detrimental drugs
have been illegalized in many parts of the world. In the United States, for instance, cocaine, cannabis
and amphetamines remain prohibited in attempt to curb their usage. Based on statistics United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime, however, the motive of the prohibition is hardly being realized. Illicit use
of the drugs has been observed to be on the rise across the globe, with an estimated 230 million people
purported to have engaged in illegal drug use at some stage in their life (Narconon 3). Worryingly,
most of the users happen to be the youthful generations. To this end, this article discusses the various
challenges faced by the families of illicit abusers of illegalized drugs.
To begin with, illicit drug abuse has been implicated in disintegration of many families (Visser 1).
Notably, the addicts are often restless and violent. As such, they are hardly able to engage other family
members in constructive discussions. Moreover, the addicts are hardly able to contribute to the
economic stability of the family. In cases where the addicts are employed, most of their

Dead Sea Srolls Study Guide
1. What are some methodological issues scholars encounter studying the Hebrew Bible and the
histories of ancient Israel?
There are so many different variations of the same text that the story cannot be aligned with assurance
for some scholars. There are different perspectives regarding the same stories in history, therefore they
have been separated into their own collections of literature; such as canonization and biblical text
recognized by different sects. Not all of the Hebrew Bible was written in Hebrew, in fact, some of the
scriptures were written in Aramaic. Scholars also run into the issue with sources by means of
interpretation and preservation. Primary sources like the Dead Sea Scrolls are easier to extract
information from rather than archeological artifacts that are likely to be open to interpretation.
2. What do multiple canons and collections of texts tell us about canonization? Why do scholars
consider canonization a process, not a moment? What is the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and
what do they tell us about textual traditions during the Second Temple period?
The canon books were prized text that was held in high regards to wisdom and history of the culture.
The content of these books was from the laws of Moses to the birth and death of humanity and all that
was in between, about a three thousand year timeframe. The preservation of these scriptures including

Is It Good Or Bad To Go Against Society Research Paper
Is It Good or Bad to Go Against Society Society can be viewed in two ways: Evil and limiting or there
for a reason. It is based on opinions whether living as an aggregate of people is helpful or it deprives
rights. Throughout history, the ones who went against society were the ones who disagreed and
wanted something to change. Stories are told from these fights and are created into books, which
create inspiration. In certain situations, breaking laws can create disastrous mayhem as in Romeo and
Juliet, but rebellion can sometimes be beneficial such as Atticus Finch and Skeeter opposing
segregation. In 1962, Jackson, Mississippi; Miss Skeeter, featured in The Help, Went against society

Building Roman Civilization Analysis
Intelligence and physical strength are equally contributed to the buliding of the city. They are equally
contibuted to the building of the city because of the way it was built, they had to figure out what to do
when it would not cut through the wood, also it took a lot of strength to lift it up. It took intelligence to
figure out how it was built. It states from the passage Building a Roman City By: David Macaulay,
The skilled laborers cut, polished, or carved inscriptions in the stone. It also states, The clay was made

It also states, The stone was usually cut with a saw. When the stone was very hard, the blade used in

of the saw ground away the stone. It also talks about where the wood that they used for the city came

Analysis Of The Movie Alfonso Cuaron Essay
Alfonso Cuaron, introduces us to a nation full of despair and destruction. The people seemed to be lost
in a deep melancholic state. Right at the beginning of the movie people appeared to be devastated by
the death of baby Diego, due to the fact that he was the youngest person on earth. This film portrays
us to a nation without children because humanity has become infertile. Infertility has taken the world
into a chaotic and paranoia stage. The government itself has indoctrinated paranoia and despair on its
own people, by condemning its people to live in a lawless nation full of war, death, and destruction.
Although it seems as if humanity is condemned to live without hope and without a chance of a future,
Theo s rejuvenation and transformation makes us see that hope can be reawakened even in the most
destructive and hopeless society; Theo transforms when Kee reveals her pregnancy to him, and by
giving hi life to safely this teenage pregnant girl through a journey full of violence and danger, to
reach a boat that represented a better future for her and her baby.
Throughout the movie it s obvious that the devastation of all humanity is caused by the infertility of
all women; infertility in the movie symbolizes a nation without a hopeful future. Even the current
future generation seems robotic and unsociable, like Theo s cousin s son. The people seemed to be
living in an unconscious and hopeless phase because the government has driven them to live this way.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Analysis
Prions are infectious protein agents that cause aggregation of the peptide PrPC and form large amyloid
fibrils. These fibrils resist proteoysis and can have a detrimental effect of the functionality of cells and
ultimately cause their death. (3). Misfolded PrPC will form stable aggregates denoted as PrPSc. PrPC
is a soluble protein that is present in all organism whose function is still not totally clear (3). When
PrPc converts to PrPSc there is an increase in the number of β sheets in the protein, which can allow
for interaction and stacking of other misfolded PrPSc proteins, causing an amyloid fibre to form (5).
One of the most relevant prions with regards to human health is Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD).CJD
is a neurodegenerative disease that causes rapid deterioration over a few months (1).Degeneration can
lead to personality changes, depression, memory loss, blindness and many other symptoms (1).Before

Chris Argyris Theory Of Personality And The Organization
Talent management grew to be recognized in the 90s, but can be traced to the 1950s and 1960s in the
form of three management theories namely: Chris Argyris theory of personality and the organization;
Frederick Herzberg s two factor theory; as well as David McClelland s concept of achievement and
orientation theory.
i) Chris Argyris theory of Personality and organization: argues that corporate role expectations had
become stifle. The consistent development of individuals implied increasing responsibility and
emphasis on job space as well as five horizons but jobs limited responsibility were over specialized
and reduced below time expectations. Authoritative managements alienated employees within the
workplace. Most employees lost interest in their jobs and most had high levels of turnover intentions
with hopes of greener pastures in self employment, change of jobs into other professions or moving up

Analysis Of The Us-China Trade Essay
Analysis of the US China Trade The U.S. trade deficit has risen more or less steadily since 1992. In
the second quarter of 2004, the trade deficit relative to GDP surpassed the 5 percent mark for the first
time. Many economists already considered trade deficits above 4 percent of GDP dangerously high.
The fear is that continued growth in this external imbalance of the U.S. economy will ultimately spook
overseas investors. http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2004/09/b193700.html The United States

The Large Emphasis Mill Puts On Conformity Is Not A Strong...
The large emphasis Mill puts on Conformity, is not a strong enough argument. It is simply displaying
the problem he sees without any clear fixes. By Mill saying that people should be allowed to act on
their own based off of the idea that originality is a valuable element of human affairs because it would
lead to new practices and set examples of more enlightened conduct is not an argument that is going to
persuade someone with different beliefs. Just basing your thinking off this, won t change the mind of
someone who is content with the way life is already. Mill also moves on to evaluate the argument over
what the rightful limits are that should be set to the sovereignty of the individual over himself. This
argument presents the ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore Mill states that inconveniences that are in no way inseparable from unfavorable judgment
by others is the only time that a person should be subjected to this, it also must be for his own good
will, and not affect the interests of others. The popular idea of social contract, that society was
something that people in some way agreed to be a part of, and that defined rights as things people
agreed to have protected by society, and duties as things people would agree to take obligation over,
Mill did not agree with. Due to his disagreement with this idea, the argument that because people
receive certain protection of society, they owed certain conduct in return did not work in favor of his
argument. Mill instead uses the argument that in the case that people do not conduct themselves
appropriately, as long as they don t violate anyone else s rights, but do in some way harm another
individual, they should only be censured by opinions, not by the law in any way. Mill showed his
strong disapproval for the interference of law in people s actions, which were only affecting that
specific individual. This idea meant that if a person was distantly impacted by a person s actions such

Since I was born, I have been learning languages consciously and unconsciously without asking why.
S.I. Hayakawa and Alan R. Hayakawa s Language in Thought and Action remind me the goal of the

The Open and Closed Mind
Hayakawa summarized The Open and Closed mind on pages 131 3. It tells that people with closed
minds apparently feel threatened and fearful. If someone trusted the speaker, but rejected his
statement, he would view the speaker as unconsciously on the enemy side. If someone rejected the
speaker, the statement is unacceptable to him too. He rejects both. They are two valued people, which
have to like everything about the speaker or nothing. Reasonably secure and well organized persons

They can empathize with persons who hold others ideas that they do not believe in, is to have an open

The debt to equity ratio of Diamond Drillers, Inc, is 0.66 times and industry averages is 1.07 times. So

The inventory turnover ratio is an efficiency ratio that represents how effectively inventory is

The inventory turnover of Diamond Drillers is higher than the industry. It is good to have a higher
inventory turnover since the Diamond Drillers does not overspend by buying too much inventory and

The South Beach Diet is a relatively new weight loss diet. It was developed by Miami cardiologist
Arthur Agatston, M.D., who is the director of the Mount Sinai Cardiac Prevention Center. The diet is
meant to promote weight loss but not at the expense of heart health. Unlike other wildly popular low
carb plans, South Beach calls for keeping tabs on saturated fats and favors lean meats and proteins

Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
The postwar 1950s launched the modernist period in English Literature, which suggested a more
pessimistic perception of society through societal nonconformity, decay, and alienation. Sylvia Plath s
The Bell Jar, a parallel to her life, expresses Esther Greenwood s character in pursuit of morality in the
reality she faces in the modern society. Esther discovers that the society is not as pure as it seems and
has underlying truths behind its deceptive appearance. To emphasize her realization, she mentions the
color white two hundred fourteen times in the novel. Although the color white often symbolizes purity,
goodness, and innocence, Esther gives white a negative connotation in the novel. Esther depicts the
reality of the society as fabricated through the recurring motif of the color white, which symbolizes
hopelessness and a stigma in the optimistic society.
Esther s classification of the color white as a stain in the purity of the society is visible through her
dissolved hope in Buddy Willard. She completely trusts Buddy Willard and imagines a prospective
marriage with him when she perceives him as an honest and truthful individual. Esther s stay in New
York alters her assessment of society since she is unable to see through reality, having been raised in a
restricted environment. Her perspective changes when she realizes the truth behind his facade of being
pure. Esther describes Buddy Willard by the color white: And he looked so proud of having thought of
this that I

Macbeth Feminist Play Analysis
Generally, Macbeth is thought of as Shakespeare s most feminist play. With a supposedly powerful
female character and an inversion of gender roles, it is easy to see how this idea came into being.
However, it is totally wrong. Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about an ambitious
nobleman who would go to any measure to become king and retain that position after receiving a
prophecy from three witches. At first, he is unwilling to resort to violence to become king but his wife,
Lady Macbeth, manipulates him into doing so. Once the first murder is complete, he has found a thirst
for killing and continues to kill various people until he is eventually killed and the rightful king takes
his place. The claims of this being a feminist play stem from Lady Macbeth s character and her
relationship with Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is violent and evil, while Macbeth is originally too kind,
showing a gender role reversal. Even so, there are many problematic aspects of Macbeth that
completely negate the few progressive components in Shakespeare s writing. Macbeth is a misogynist
play because it promotes strict gender roles, gender non conforming women are demonized and seen
as responsible for men s problems, and by the second half of the play, any innovative gender role
reversals are themselves reversed.
To begin with, Macbeth promotes very strict gender roles, with women and femininity being
associated with fear and weakness, and men and manliness being associated with power

American Airlines Executive Summary
Executive Summary/Abstract American Airlines is looking to expand its market to more wealthy
consumers by offering an excusive line of aircraft consisting mostly of first class and business type
seating. This new model will be labeled under the title Elite and would market routes to and from
major city hubs during heavy business traveling hours. American Airlines will position this service as
the, Black Jet since that would be the standout feature of the aircraft. American can take advantage of
its existing market base along with its frequent fliers to sell the experience of a flight experience
beyond maximizing passengers. The target motto would be a flight redefined. American Airlines Elite
would target business, first class, and frequent flying travelers. The Primary marketing objective is to
achieve a 4 7% increase in fares per route flown by the increase of ticketing prices even with fewer
seats on the aircraft. Status matching will be offered to competing airline frequent flyers to encourage
them to travel more with American than their current choose airline. Airlines represents a $783 billion
a year industry (Fact Sheet: Industry Statistics, 2014). Being able to expand the market to the high end
segment would create an attraction to a unique service not offered by other major US airlines. Break
even cost would be the first year goal while there would be an increase in cost to retrofit aircraft.

The first attempt of reorganization took place in the 1970s. As it was obvious, since the V2000
videocassette format was developed and Philips was forced to abandon it because the North American
Philips decided to outsource it, although it was technically perfect, that the NOs were to powerful. So
CEO Van Reimsdijk tried to decrease the number of products marketed, build scale by concentrating
production and increase the flow of goods among national organizations. He wanted to close the least
efficient plants and to convert the best into International Production Centers, each supplying many
NOs. So the PDs should gain more control over the manufacturing operations.
Rodenburg, his successor, furthered the Matrix simplification by replacing the dual commercial and
technical leadership, which was known as the success secret of Philips, with single management at the
corporate and national organizational levels. So the problems grew even more. The next
reorganization took place in 1982 by CEO Dekker. He was aware of the Japanese cost advantage and
so he closed inefficient operations. He focused on the core operations by selling some businesses and
acquiring an interest in Grundig and Westinghouse s North American lamp activities and also

The Influence Of Voting In The United States Of America
The United States of America is one of the few countries that give its citizens a unique opportunity
and that is to vote. Many other countries give its citizens the right to vote, however America is
different due to the fact that its citizens vote for everything, from their local government to their
president. With power this great, it gives more reason to become and informed voter. Each state has
congressional districts that are made by the population. Each district has around 711,000 people. Each
district gets one representative in the House of Representatives. For example, Portland Connecticut is
part of the 1st congressional district in Connecticut. Their representative is John Larson. The 1st
congressional district of Connecticut spans over multiple counties including multiple major cities, and
example would be East and West Hartford, Hartford being the capital of Connecticut. Other cities
include Middletown and Manchester, all which are highly populated and the towns have large impacts
on Connecticut s economy.
John Larson
John Larson was born July 22, 1948 in Hartford, Connecticut. He went to Central Connecticut State
University. In 1999 he was elected into office as a representative for Connecticut s 1st congressional
district. In his position there is an election every 2 years. John Larson works in the House of
Representative, which is part of the legislative branch. Their job includes passing laws and originating
and spending bills. Larson has been constantly winning re election. During his election periods he gets
the majority of the votes when he is up against 2 3 competitors. Looking at voting past he has been
winning every reelection by at least around 60%. An important fact to note is that Larson is a
democrat.
The 1st congressional district
Undoubtedly, the 1st congressional district of Connecticut leans towards a democratic government.
This is based off of the fact that John Larson has been winning reelection since 1999 along with the
fact that he has won the majority of the votes for each reelection. Even before John Larson the past
few representatives have been democrats, for example Barbra B. Kennelly and William R. Cotter have
all been democrats. In fact, this district has been voting

Forced Labor Solutions Essay
There are many possible solutions that have been attempted to try and stop forced labor and while
some have helped a little none of them have been able to make the problem go completely away.
These solutions have a better chance at working and getting rid of the forced labor problem if they
were combined. There is no one set solution to any problem, there are multiple that needs to be put
together to make one integrated solution. The possible solutions are all really good ideas they are just
not good enough to stand alone and solve the problem of forced labor. For example the law that was
created that said forced labor is illegal needs to be enforced is a good idea but people break the law all
of the time so this is not a very good solution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If companies were not so money hungry and actually paid attention and knew where their product is
from then there will be less of a demand for people to be in forced labor. If companies were having

not using forced laborers to get their product made then there is no demand
for forced laborers and people knowing the tricks that the traffickers use then they are less likely to be

Any way that these possible solutions are combined could help solve the problem of forced labor

The Impact Of Sports On College From A Professional And...
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss the history of the development of athletics in higher education tracing roots
from England through modern day sports. I will also discuss some of the issues of sports in higher
education face and discuss some of the actions that have been taken to pacify these issues. Finally, I
will conclude this with a brief synopsis of the benefits of sports in college from a professional and non
professional activity standpoint. (FPO)
Historical Development
General History
English universities were enclosed with a structure similar to what we know as prisons today.
Universities were gated communities as a means of deterring students from engaging with the
commoners. Within these campuses, students were provided with activities that would allow for the
exhaustion of energy and physical fitness (Delbanco, 2014).(P38)
U.S. History
Early in the United States higher education system, sports were regarded as a waste of time, as
emphasis was placed on academic rigor. Since most of the American higher education system was
based on the structure of English universities, students were to take on a likeness of their professors as
further explained, an important part was...to witness social and intellectual exchange among their
superiors, in hope that they would aspire someday to be worthy of sitting among them (Delbanco,
2014, P.38). Because of this thought, and American s desire for higher achievement than the English
schools, early United States

On them depends the existence of this whole culture; if they perish, the beauty of this earth will sink
into the grave with them (288). Hitler was attempting to convey to the German people that their race
and culture was superior to all others and that Aryans were invincible. Hitler wanted to create a sense
of pride, unity and stability among the people because stability was not a very strong factor among the
masses who felt they had nothing to lose. Therefore, Hitler called his political cause quot;the
movement quot;.
Movement was, indeed, one of the mythic messages, movement away from the state of stagnation of
the Weimar Republic, as the Nazis emphasized it repeatedly to persuade the masses, away from the
shameful dictate of the Versailles peace treaty, away from true blood sucking parasites, Jews, (304)
and forward towards the building of a quot;New Pure Germany quot; who would be a power to reckon
with throughout Europe and the World at large.
Although Hitler lacked his own characteristics of being a true Aryan (blond haired and blue eyed
individual), he represented all of Germany as an ultimate ruler eliminating all other potential
authorities that could possibly compete with him, just as a self evident mythology cannot tolerate
other powers, which might challenge and lead to the dissolution of the mythic system.

I believe that my students should feel comfortable to have their say and be in charge, to an extent of
their learning. Students should be flourishing and growing in their classrooms, not being hounded and
manipulated to conforming to the teachers beliefs. How this applies to my classroom management
approach: For students to become ethical people, as opposed to people who do merely what they are
told, we cannot just tell them what to do. We have to guide and support these students to figure this
out for themselves so they can learn from each other. Whenever possible, simply ignore the covert
hostility of a student. By ignoring the behaviour, you will diffuse the situation. Remember, what you
really want is for the student to comply with your request. Whether or not the student does it in an
angry manner is not the issue. (Assertive discipline approach, 2008) I believe that this strategy of
classroom behaviour management does not suit, or compliment my beliefs as a teacher. I believe the
students should feel comfortable and supported in their learning environment and I feel as though
assertive discipline does not allow for this. I can see the positives that could arise from a management
plan such as this, but to punish children for making natural childhood mistakes is to punish them for
being children. 2. Applied Behaviour Analysis Characteristics

The U.S. Supreme Court has set forth some important legal guidelines both for the use of deadly force
itself, and for the inquiries which must be conducted before such use results in civil liability in a
federal civil rights claim(AELE Monthly Law Journal, 2007). When constitutional rights and
departmental policy have been violated this can be the cause of civil liability claim (AELE Monthly
Law Journal, 2007).

Ampicillin Resistance Lab Report
Discussion
As predicted the E. coli colony transformed with either the PUC18 or the lux plasmid developed an
ampicillin resistance. Which made it easier for them to not only survive but also replicate in both the
LB agar plates and the LB ampicillin rich agar plate. However the E. coli colony not treated with the
plasmids could not survive and colonize in the LB ampicillin rich agar plates. The plate that had no
ampicillin in its environment and no plasmid treated E. coli served as a positive control for this
experiment because it demonstrated how the E. coli would colonize and grow in a normal setting. The
cells in the positive control plate grew into lawn colonies because they were not placed into a selective
environment or transformed, so they had no need to acquire ampicillin resistance. Two plates in the
experiment contained E. coli cells that were transformed with either the PUC18 or the lux plasmid but
were placed in an ampicillin free environment. These two colonies grew ... Show more content on

In order to find transformation efficiency, the total number of colonies on the plate is divided by the
total amount (µg) of DNA spread on the plate. All the factors that must be taken into account while
finding the transformation efficiency include; the total amount (µg) of plasmid DNA used, the total
volume (µl) of cell suspension prepared, the fraction of DNA spread on the plate and finally the total
amount (µg) of DNA present on the plate. In the LB/AMPC plate the transformation efficiency was
8.2 x 103 colonies per µg of plasmid DNA while the LB/AMPlux plate the transformation efficiency
was 1.07 x 104 colonies per µg of plasmid DNA. The transformation efficiency for the LBC and
LBlux plates were not taken into account, even though they too transformed because they were not in
a restrictive environment where they needed to express their ampicillin resistance genes in order to

O Hara Rising Action
The exposition of a work of literature included the following three things: setting, time and characters.
The setting for Gone With the Wind took place in a town called Tara in Georgia. The time of the story
was during the Civil War. Tara is the home of the O Haras. The main characters were the O Hara s.
These are the three things that an exposition piece includes. The main character of the story is Scarlet
O Hara. She is very full of pride and gets around a lot. As the book begins she finds out the news that
one of her beaus, Ashley Wilkes, is going to get married to his cousin Melanie. Melanie is the opposite
of who Scarlet was. She was nice, considerate, always thinking of others before herself. Throughout
the novel, a love triangle goes on with Scarlet, Ashley, and Rhett, a man that really fancies Ms. O
Hara. This love triangle creates Scarlet with a big conflict. The only reason she married her first
husband was to make Ashley jealous. This however did not work for her. She still finds herself madly
in love with Mr. Wilkes, as she thinks. At the barbeque Rhett Butler shows up in the novel after
Scarlet had just finished fighting with Ashley. He makes it very obvious that he wants to see more of
her but Ms. O Hara is not close to being interested.

The novel takes place in a plantation called Tara in Georgia. They had horse riding all over the fields.
In the houses they were no lights except candles and sunlight. Mitchell really portrayed the setting in
the book really great as how it would have been in reality. I could really capture the actuality of how it
would have been throughout the Civil War. The last local color I noticed was vision. All the
southerners visioned how they were going to win the war. All they envisioned were the positives of
life, never the negatives. Scarlet visioned herself with the complete opposite of what she had in the

College Football Camp Analysis
It all started with me being accepted into to a extremely important college football camp. Now this
camp isn t just like any other normal, football camp, it was the camp of the university of Clemson. So
already I was emotionally nervous, because, there was a lot of important people here for everyone
attending the camp. There were people such as college recruits and obviously the Clemson coaches.
This was going to be a once in a lifetime experience, there s no way I was just about to let it slip. My
first long morning started off early by waking up at 4:30. I slipped my clothes on, and we were off to
the university. Finally after being in the car for what seems like forever, we made it to the university.

Let s Play Ball
It was a smoldering day in the summer of 1932, and yet all the boys were out on the ball field. They
were playing a doubleheader that afternoon, and it was bottom of the ninth inning when they had to
stop the game. If we had some big fancy lights like them city boys we wouldn t have ta quit playin
whenever it gets dark out, complained Jimmy as he kicked up some dirt off the field. Yeah, well it s
kinda hard to do that when we ain t got no electricity out here, his brother Noah replied solemly. The
worst part is that we were actually winnin for once Jimmy! The boys went home dissapointed that
night after coming so close to their first win this year. Momma we re home! The boys shouted together
as they walked through the front door. They made their way to the kitchen where they knew dinner
would be waiting for them. Jimmy and Noah sat down at the table and instantly started shoving food
in their mouths, practically inhaling it. How was your day boys? Their mother asked with enthusiasm
all over her face. She genuinely loved hearing about their games. Well momma we lost our first game
pretty bad, but I really think we woulda won the next one if we could ve finished the stupid thing. It s
just impossible to see anything out there when it starts gettin dark, ya know? Jimmy was talking with
food in his mouth, but she could understand enough to figure out what he was saying. Yeah I know
what you mean, but until there s electricity on that field you re stuck

Ts Eliot Critical Essay
How has your research into TS Eliot s life and the opinions of ONE critic enriched your understanding
of an aspect of The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock?
Let us go then, you and I .
Throughout the poem, The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock, written by TS Eliot, there is a consistent
use of the words you and I . Not much is said about the narrator or who he is talking to and after
conducting research on TS Eliot himself as well as reading opinions of critics on this topic, my
understanding of who the you and I is has changed quite significantly.
The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock was originally written, primarily, between February 1910 and
July or August 1911. The poem was not first published until June 1915 in the poetic ... Show more

One of the discussed allusions is the methods Eliot uses to draw the audience into the poem. She goes
on to say Let us go then, you and I, Prufrock urges, inviting readers to enter the world of his loneliness
and self deprecating impotence .
Many theories of who Prufrock is talking to exist. Some believe he is talking simply to another person
who is walking through the streets with him. Another theory is that he is talking to himself and
discussing his problems out loud, which was my original understanding. However, now I do not
believe Prufrock would literally talk to himself and urge himself to Let us go . Due to this, my
understanding is that he is talking to the audience and is asking them to continue on with his story and
to listen with what he has to say.
Since conducting research on TS Eliot and The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock my understanding of
who the narrator is and who he is talking to have changed and I now believe that J Alfred Prufrock is
an appropriation of Eliot by himself. Also, I now believe that Prufrock is not talking to himself but is
talking to the audience and urging them to come along with him as he talks about

Jabberwocky Poem Analysis
The Giants We Face As seen in many productions and films throughout the years, like the Broadway
hit Into the Woods and the classic Alice in Wonderland, people love to see the little guy triumph over a
giant. It is a timeless underdog story that gives us a sense of superiority as we watch the often times
relatable character combat their foe, whether it be inner demons or a literal monster. In Lewis Carol s
poem Jabberwocky , we see a young boy combat the dreaded creature and ultimately kill it, reigning
victorious. In the song Giants in the Sky from Into the Woods, we hear young Jack ramble on about
his grand adventure above the clouds to the confused Baker. Both of these pieces feature what we
might see as someone small taking on something much larger than we would expect them to. Carol s
Jabberwocky and Giants in the Sky both tell in a unique way of a youth s quest to face their own giant.
Carol opens his poem with nonsensical descriptions and a father telling his boy to Beware the
Jabberwock, my son! (5) with its jaws that bite, the claws that catch! (6). Though the poem is short, it
clearly tells a story of a beast that terrorizes and people that fear it. The Jabberwocky is a vicious
monster, and it is mentioned that long time the manxome foe he sought (10) which could be implying
that it has been around for ages. It is easy to read this poem, because it is utter nonsense without
complex meaning or deep truths. Many of the words used in the poem were made

ACL Injuries
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has limited range of motion, which leads to it being the most
frequently injured ligament singularly (Ireland, 1999). This study was conducted to present the
epidemiology on ACL injuries in female athletes (Ireland, 1999). Epidemiology is the part of science
that focuses on the causes, effects, and patterns of disease and health conditions that occur in specific
populations. The epidemiology in this article focuses on female athletes that have had a noncontact
ACL injury playing either basketball or soccer (Ireland, 1999). As previously stated, the subjects were
female athletes who play/played basketball or soccer. The data for this article came from MEDLINE
and was through the dates 1978 to 1998 (Ireland, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lowering this rate would allow female athletes of all levels to have a lower probability of ACL injury.
Sex difference has proven that female athletes are more likely to have an ACL injury than males.
Since we are unable to change our sex (intrinsic factor), the focus must then be placed on the factors
that can be modified. A list of these factors include: preparation, skill acquisition (from a young age),
and playing style (Ireland, 1999). The factors listed are all controllable extrinsic factors, focusing on
these and the partially controllable factors could aid in the prevention of ACL injuries in

Hollywood And The Lack Of Culture In Hollywood
This country has been described as a melting pot of different ethnicities. To put it into statistics, the
United States population in 2014 accounted 37.9 percent minority. No matter who they are, people
come together to enjoy whatever Hollywood has produced; whether it s cinematic masterpieces or
tasteful television productions. In fact, 46 percent of all movie tickets sold in the United States were
purchased by people of color in that year (Hunt et al). They would all come together to watch a movie
that hopefully would be able to showcase what America looked like today; however, they would be
faced with disappointment. The lack of representation is apparent as people gaze upon the silver
screen. After a study by the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies, where they
examined 163 films, it is revealed that 12.9 percent of the lead roles were claimed by minorities. The
study reports that it s a decline from the 16.7 percent in comparison to the year prior. Furthermore, it s
not just the silver screen where diversity lacks television is another victim. In cable scripted television
shows, white actors had 78 percent of the 1120 roles, observed by the same study, while minorities
accounted for 22 percent in the 2013 2014 season. With many wonders as to why the lack of diversity
is prevalent, it still happens and Hollywood isn t hosting a fair playing field between actors in the
majority and minority. If and when Hollywood uses diverse actors in their projects

Chinese Religions Research Paper
Have you ever wondered about Chinese religions? Just what they are like, or what their cultures
include? Well, you are about to find out!
The number of different Chinese religions is uncertain, but the important ones are: Taoism,
Confucianism, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism.
Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ. It was founded in about 7 B.C. There were six eras when
Chinese became Christians. The first wave was said to be soon after Jesus death and in the first few
centuries of A.D. The second wave was Nestorianism starting from about the seventh century. The
third wave was Catholicism that was spread during the Yuan Dynasty (1206 1368). The fourth wave

  • 2. World Resources And Unequal Distribution World Resources and Unequal Distribution In a world run by different resources, we will never have enough for ourselves. In the modern world, resources such as rare earth elements, oil, and water are always in demand. The United States of America alone consumes more resources and energy than it produces. But what about other nations? Some nations such as Japan, Great Britain, and South Korea are industrialized nations with many advantages over resources. Other developing nations such as Haiti, Ethiopia, Angola, and even Afghanistan are not as industrialized. Why? Many of the world s resources is almost unable to reach the most poorest and unindustrialized parts of the world. This can be due to factors such as hostile terrorists, lack of transportation, lack of basic necessities and so forth. Unequal distribution of resources is not just a world issue but the reason why this exists is because literally, resources are used more than what is produced and it cannot uphold the current population of over seven billion. The issues concerning unequal distribution of resources towards poor parts of the world won t stop others from solving this issue. There are already plans that are taken into action to help industrialize and strengthen the poor parts of the world. To begin, the unequal distribution of food can be averted with the right planning of sharing and disbursement. In the past, there were events in history where the world combated hunger but it was not enough due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Eve Above Adam Gender Roles Eve Above Adam: Deconstruction of Gender Roles in the Context of Detective/Crime Novels At first glance Ted Dekker s Adam appears to be the typical crime novel. There is a detective (male) obsessed with solving a mysterious string of murders, ruined marriage, a subordinate female coworker, and of course all of the victims being female. It is not long before the reader realizes something is different about this text. The first clue is that the killer is labeled Eve, a traditionally female name associated with the mother of humanity. The second clue is that the supposed strong male protagonist is exhibiting reactions to stressful situations that are traditionally considered effeminate. In addition to this, the male serial killer isn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As is to be expected from a crime novel, the criminal s victims are all initially female. These are however, not even secondary characters, and is when we look at the more prominent female characters that tradition is thrown to the wayside. Heather Clark, Daniel s ex wife, is first introduced as being a woman who was powerless to stop her husband s obsession with a serial killer. She is even depicted as being so dependent that she becomes obsessed with her husband. This leads to a subsequent obsession with Eve and Heather s own amateur detective work. Ironically it is Heather that serial killer communicates with, not Daniel. In fact, the serial killer communicates through her to Daniel. Heather is the one that receives the warning that if Daniel tries to stop Eve, he will die (Dekker, 23 24). The reiteration the notion that the male characters need to go through female characters for the information to gain importance, means that without the female characters the story could not continue. Later in the novel Daniel is captured by the serial killer and his wife Heather goes to save him. However, she soon discovers that that Daniel is possessed by Eve and calls a priest, Father Seymour, to try and save him (Dekker, 315 326). Heather, not Daniel the supposed detective character, is the one who thinks to call the priest. She realizes his importance in stopping Eve and Alex, Daniel however is still adamantly against the very idea of supernatural involvement. With the help of Lori Ames and the Priest, Daniel is eventually rescued and becomes dependent on Heather as a support system following the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Eye Motif in Night by Elie Wiesel The Soul s Mirror Eyes have guided mankind throughout all history, whether they allowed us to foresee danger or helped us find our loved ones. They have granted us sight over what would otherwise be invisible to us. When looking at someone, one can tell how they are feeling by staring into his or her eyes. Our eyes never lie. Our eyes will often mirror our souls and display our true inner emotions. In Elie Wiesel s autobiographical narrative, Night, he uses the eye motif to portray characters true souls. In some parts of the narrative, Night, Wiesel used eyes to display the hope and positive emotion in characters. In the beginning of the story, eyes were used as an indication of Moche the Beadle s calmness in the following quote. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His eyes show he is still alive, but his soul s essence is dimmed and now weak; he is near death. The following event happens before a selection and Akiba Drumer instantly gives up hope. Suddenly his eyes would become blank, nothing but two open wounds, two pits of terror (Wiesel 82). While Akiba may still be physically alive, his eyes show how his soul is now dead and overwhelmed by terror; he is now a mere walking corpse. Elie and his father are seeking shelter from the frozen temperature in the brick factory in the next scene. His eyes were petrified, his lips withered, decayed (Wiesel 94). Elie s father s eyes show how he has been reduced to a brittle stone that is about to crack. Elie Wiesel used eyes as a motif in his narrative, Night, as windows to characters inner souls. He used eyes to assist the theme of surviving at all costs throughout the story by giving the audience an insight of people s true emotions and status. Without eyes, we would have been blind to see past characters outer layers of fake emotion. There is more than the eye can see. One has to look deep into another s eyes to see the true light or darkness within them. Works Cited Wiesel, Elie. Night. Austin: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The president took the step as a measure to end the negative publicity against authorities for using excessive force against protesters. The Civil Rights Act was signed into law by Kennedy s successor in 1964. The Act was a major victory as it introduced reforms that undermined the system of racial segregation. It outlawed racial discrimination in voting, employment, and public service. It also authorized the federal government to take measures to prevent racial discrimination. The first, and oldest, is Judaism, founded several thousand years ago in the Middle East; then there is Christianity, the most popular religion in the world, which was founded shortly after the death of Christ; finally, there is Islam, the second most popular religion in the world, founded by the prophet Muhammed in the 7th century ACE. Islam has over one billion followers of the Islamic faith. Although it is one of the most popular religions in the world, many people do not know much about what Muslims, followers of Islam, believe in. Due to the rising publicity of militant terrorist groups in the Middle East, Islamophobia has become rampant in many first world countries. Although the media portrays violent and barbaric acts performed by militant Muslims, a majority of Muslims do not commit such atrocities and are wrongly persecuted. Only by educating those who do not know about Islam, can it be assured that Islamophobia will dwindle. Islam was founded in Saudi Arabia by a prophet named Muhammed. Muhammed is considered to be the greatest prophet in the Muslim faith, the second greatest prophet in the Muslim faith is considered to be Jesus Christ himself. The one main, significant difference between Islam and Christianity is that Muslims do not see Christ as being the Lord, they believe that only Allah, the Arabic name for God, is the one, true lord. ... Leadership is not only a human quality; it is found in primitive forms in many animal species, from low level vertebrates such as chickens to higher level primates such as gorillas and whales (Troittier, Wart and Wang, 2008). Leaders have a great influence in the organizations as they fuel employee motivation by offering benefits and rewards that meet individual needs Kreitner and Kinicki, 2006 and Yukl, 2002). Job satisfaction is extremely important for the well being of the organization as well as the individual (Vecchio, 2006). The significance of job satisfaction can be viewed in the context of two decisions people make about their work. The first is the decisions to join and retain in the organization. Indeed, the different drugs have been observed to impose varying impacts on users. While some of the drugs are curative and positive in usage, others are remarkably detrimental and can facilitate the mental and psychological breakdown of the user and their families. In this respect, many of the detrimental drugs have been illegalized in many parts of the world. In the United States, for instance, cocaine, cannabis and amphetamines remain prohibited in attempt to curb their usage. Based on statistics United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, however, the motive of the prohibition is hardly being realized. Illicit use of the drugs has been observed to be on the rise across the globe, with an estimated 230 million people purported to have engaged in illegal drug use at some stage in their life (Narconon 3). There are so many different variations of the same text that the story cannot be aligned with assurance for some scholars. There are different perspectives regarding the same stories in history, therefore they have been separated into their own collections of literature; such as canonization and biblical text recognized by different sects. Not all of the Hebrew Bible was written in Hebrew, in fact, some of the scriptures were written in Aramaic. Scholars also run into the issue with sources by means of interpretation and preservation. Primary sources like the Dead Sea Scrolls are easier to extract information from rather than archeological artifacts that are likely to be open to interpretation. 2. What do multiple canons and collections of texts tell us about canonization? Why do scholars consider canonization a process, not a moment? What is the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and what do they tell us about textual traditions during the Second Temple period? The canon books were prized text that was held in high regards to wisdom and history of the culture. It took intelligence to figure out how it was built. It states from the passage Building a Roman City By: David Macaulay, The skilled laborers cut, polished, or carved inscriptions in the stone. It also states, The clay was made into bricks and tiles in factories near Arretium. The clay, dug out of large pits in the ground, was formed into standard shapes and sizes using wooden molds. • 18. Analysis Of The Movie Alfonso Cuaron Essay Alfonso Cuaron, introduces us to a nation full of despair and destruction. The people seemed to be lost in a deep melancholic state. Right at the beginning of the movie people appeared to be devastated by the death of baby Diego, due to the fact that he was the youngest person on earth. This film portrays us to a nation without children because humanity has become infertile. Infertility has taken the world into a chaotic and paranoia stage. The government itself has indoctrinated paranoia and despair on its own people, by condemning its people to live in a lawless nation full of war, death, and destruction. Although it seems as if humanity is condemned to live without hope and without a chance of a future, Theo s rejuvenation and transformation makes us see that hope can be reawakened even in the most destructive and hopeless society; Theo transforms when Kee reveals her pregnancy to him, and by giving hi life to safely this teenage pregnant girl through a journey full of violence and danger, to reach a boat that represented a better future for her and her baby. Throughout the movie it s obvious that the devastation of all humanity is caused by the infertility of all women; infertility in the movie symbolizes a nation without a hopeful future. • 19. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Analysis Prions are infectious protein agents that cause aggregation of the peptide PrPC and form large amyloid fibrils. These fibrils resist proteoysis and can have a detrimental effect of the functionality of cells and ultimately cause their death. (3). Misfolded PrPC will form stable aggregates denoted as PrPSc. PrPC is a soluble protein that is present in all organism whose function is still not totally clear (3). When PrPc converts to PrPSc there is an increase in the number of β sheets in the protein, which can allow for interaction and stacking of other misfolded PrPSc proteins, causing an amyloid fibre to form (5). One of the most relevant prions with regards to human health is Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD).CJD is a neurodegenerative disease that causes rapid deterioration over a few months (1).Degeneration can lead to personality changes, depression, memory loss, blindness and many other symptoms (1).Before the identification of variant CDJ, sporadic cases of CJD made up 85% of the CJD cases, followed by familial CDJ causing 5 15% of cases, and the remaining cases contributed to iatrogenic CJD. Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar The postwar 1950s launched the modernist period in English Literature, which suggested a more pessimistic perception of society through societal nonconformity, decay, and alienation. Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, a parallel to her life, expresses Esther Greenwood s character in pursuit of morality in the reality she faces in the modern society. Esther discovers that the society is not as pure as it seems and has underlying truths behind its deceptive appearance. To emphasize her realization, she mentions the color white two hundred fourteen times in the novel. Although the color white often symbolizes purity, goodness, and innocence, Esther gives white a negative connotation in the novel. Esther depicts the reality of the society as fabricated through the recurring motif of the color white, which symbolizes hopelessness and a stigma in the optimistic society. Esther s classification of the color white as a stain in the purity of the society is visible through her dissolved hope in Buddy Willard. She completely trusts Buddy Willard and imagines a prospective marriage with him when she perceives him as an honest and truthful individual. Esther s stay in New York alters her assessment of society since she is unable to see through reality, having been raised in a restricted environment. • 29. Macbeth Feminist Play Analysis Generally, Macbeth is thought of as Shakespeare s most feminist play. With a supposedly powerful female character and an inversion of gender roles, it is easy to see how this idea came into being. However, it is totally wrong. Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about an ambitious nobleman who would go to any measure to become king and retain that position after receiving a prophecy from three witches. At first, he is unwilling to resort to violence to become king but his wife, Lady Macbeth, manipulates him into doing so. Once the first murder is complete, he has found a thirst for killing and continues to kill various people until he is eventually killed and the rightful king takes his place. The claims of this being a feminist play stem from Lady Macbeth s character and her relationship with Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is violent and evil, while Macbeth is originally too kind, showing a gender role reversal. Even so, there are many problematic aspects of Macbeth that completely negate the few progressive components in Shakespeare s writing. Macbeth is a misogynist play because it promotes strict gender roles, gender non conforming women are demonized and seen as responsible for men s problems, and by the second half of the play, any innovative gender role reversals are themselves reversed. To begin with, Macbeth promotes very strict gender roles, with women and femininity being associated with fear and weakness, and men and manliness being associated with power ... Universities were gated communities as a means of deterring students from engaging with the commoners. Within these campuses, students were provided with activities that would allow for the exhaustion of energy and physical fitness (Delbanco, 2014).(P38) U.S. History Early in the United States higher education system, sports were regarded as a waste of time, as emphasis was placed on academic rigor. Since most of the American higher education system was based on the structure of English universities, students were to take on a likeness of their professors as further explained, an important part was...to witness social and intellectual exchange among their superiors, in hope that they would aspire someday to be worthy of sitting among them (Delbanco, 2014, P.38). Essay on Propaganda Distorted Mirror of Reality All propaganda must be popular and its intellectual level must be adjusted to the most limited intelligence among those it is addressed to, consequently, the greater the mass it is intended to reach, the lower its purely intellectual level will have to be. ~Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf Psychology of Propaganda Fascism is a form of counter revolutionary politics that first arose in the early part of the twentieth century in Europe. It was a response to the rapid social upheaval, the devastation of World War I, and unstable economy. Hitler was attempting to convey to the German people that their race and culture was superior to all others and that Aryans were invincible. Hitler wanted to create a sense of pride, unity and stability among the people because stability was not a very strong factor among the masses who felt they had nothing to lose. Therefore, Hitler called his political cause quot;the movement quot;. Movement was, indeed, one of the mythic messages, movement away from the state of stagnation of the Weimar Republic, as the Nazis emphasized it repeatedly to persuade the masses, away from the shameful dictate of the Versailles peace treaty, away from true blood sucking parasites, Jews, (304) and forward towards the building of a quot;New Pure Germany quot; who would be a power to reckon with throughout Europe and the World at large. Although Hitler lacked his own characteristics of being a true Aryan (blond haired and blue eyed individual), he represented all of Germany as an ultimate ruler eliminating all other potential authorities that could possibly compete with him, just as a self evident mythology cannot tolerate other powers, which might challenge and lead to the dissolution of the mythic system. Students should be flourishing and growing in their classrooms, not being hounded and manipulated to conforming to the teachers beliefs. How this applies to my classroom management approach: For students to become ethical people, as opposed to people who do merely what they are told, we cannot just tell them what to do. We have to guide and support these students to figure this out for themselves so they can learn from each other. Whenever possible, simply ignore the covert hostility of a student. By ignoring the behaviour, you will diffuse the situation. Remember, what you really want is for the student to comply with your request. Whether or not the student does it in an angry manner is not the issue. (Assertive discipline approach, 2008) I believe that this strategy of classroom behaviour management does not suit, or compliment my beliefs as a teacher. I believe the students should feel comfortable and supported in their learning environment and I feel as though assertive discipline does not allow for this. I can see the positives that could arise from a management plan such as this, but to punish children for making natural childhood mistakes is to punish them for being children. 2. • 40. Ampicillin Resistance Lab Report Discussion As predicted the E. coli colony transformed with either the PUC18 or the lux plasmid developed an ampicillin resistance. Which made it easier for them to not only survive but also replicate in both the LB agar plates and the LB ampicillin rich agar plate. However the E. coli colony not treated with the plasmids could not survive and colonize in the LB ampicillin rich agar plates. The plate that had no ampicillin in its environment and no plasmid treated E. coli served as a positive control for this experiment because it demonstrated how the E. coli would colonize and grow in a normal setting. The cells in the positive control plate grew into lawn colonies because they were not placed into a selective environment or transformed, so they had no need to acquire ampicillin resistance. Two plates in the experiment contained E. coli cells that were transformed with either the PUC18 or the lux plasmid but were placed in an ampicillin free environment. These two colonies grew ... Let us go then, you and I . Throughout the poem, The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock, written by TS Eliot, there is a consistent use of the words you and I . Not much is said about the narrator or who he is talking to and after conducting research on TS Eliot himself as well as reading opinions of critics on this topic, my understanding of who the you and I is has changed quite significantly. She goes on to say Let us go then, you and I, Prufrock urges, inviting readers to enter the world of his loneliness and self deprecating impotence . Many theories of who Prufrock is talking to exist. Some believe he is talking simply to another person who is walking through the streets with him. Another theory is that he is talking to himself and discussing his problems out loud, which was my original understanding. However, now I do not believe Prufrock would literally talk to himself and urge himself to Let us go . Due to this, my understanding is that he is talking to the audience and is asking them to continue on with his story and to listen with what he has to say. Since conducting research on TS Eliot and The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock my understanding of who the narrator is and who he is talking to have changed and I now believe that J Alfred Prufrock is an appropriation of Eliot by himself. Jabberwocky Poem Analysis The Giants We Face As seen in many productions and films throughout the years, like the Broadway hit Into the Woods and the classic Alice in Wonderland, people love to see the little guy triumph over a giant. It is a timeless underdog story that gives us a sense of superiority as we watch the often times relatable character combat their foe, whether it be inner demons or a literal monster. In Lewis Carol s poem Jabberwocky , we see a young boy combat the dreaded creature and ultimately kill it, reigning victorious. In the song Giants in the Sky from Into the Woods, we hear young Jack ramble on about his grand adventure above the clouds to the confused Baker. Both of these pieces feature what we might see as someone small taking on something much larger than we would expect them to. Carol s Jabberwocky and Giants in the Sky both tell in a unique way of a youth s quest to face their own giant. Carol opens his poem with nonsensical descriptions and a father telling his boy to Beware the Jabberwock, my son! (5) with its jaws that bite, the claws that catch! (6). Though the poem is short, it clearly tells a story of a beast that terrorizes and people that fear it. The Jabberwocky is a vicious monster, and it is mentioned that long time the manxome foe he sought (10) which could be implying that it has been around for ages. It is easy to read this poem, because it is utter nonsense without complex meaning or deep truths. Many of the words used in the poem were made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Hollywood And The Lack Of Culture In Hollywood This country has been described as a melting pot of different ethnicities. To put it into statistics, the United States population in 2014 accounted 37.9 percent minority. No matter who they are, people come together to enjoy whatever Hollywood has produced; whether it s cinematic masterpieces or tasteful television productions. In fact, 46 percent of all movie tickets sold in the United States were purchased by people of color in that year (Hunt et al). They would all come together to watch a movie that hopefully would be able to showcase what America looked like today; however, they would be faced with disappointment. The lack of representation is apparent as people gaze upon the silver screen. After a study by the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies, where they examined 163 films, it is revealed that 12.9 percent of the lead roles were claimed by minorities. The study reports that it s a decline from the 16.7 percent in comparison to the year prior. Furthermore, it s not just the silver screen where diversity lacks television is another victim. In cable scripted television shows, white actors had 78 percent of the 1120 roles, observed by the same study, while minorities accounted for 22 percent in the 2013 2014 season. With many wonders as to why the lack of diversity is prevalent, it still happens and Hollywood isn t hosting a fair playing field between actors in the majority and minority.
