रीतिरात्मा काव्यस्य; विशिष्टापदरचना रीति: |' Riti means style. Kavyalankasutra is the poetic work of Acharya Vamana, where he talks about riti. For Vamana, that formless, indeterminate essence of Kavya is Riti.Vamana said; the essence of Kavya is Riti (रीतिरात्मा काव्यस्य); just as every body has Atma, so does every Kavya has its Riti.

3. • Ritis correlate with (1) themes, (2) effect on the
hearers/viewers, and (3) sentiment
• Bharata (Natyaśästra 6.25) has all the three in mind in his
discussion of urttis.
• (1) kaisiki (for śrigära)
• (2) bhārati (for all rasas),
• (3) sattavati (for vira)
• (4) ärbhatti (for raudra and bibhatsa).
• Rīti may be called 'diction', particularly when guna/dosa
become part of the discussion (Sahityadarpana, chapter 7)

• Absence of Doshas like Vakya, Padarth,
Pada, Vakyarth

5. Basically it is a theory that handles the
psychophonetic fitness of language for
speakers, themes and sentiments, and
therefore
becomes a study of craftsmanship and
psychology of speech.
