Key Concept 4.1 Globalizing Networks of Communication and Exchange
4.1 Describe the degree of global interconnection after 1500 CE compared to before 1500. What were
the overall effects of this change in global interconnectedness? The interconnection before 1500 and
after 1500 posed major differences in the degree of interconnection. Before 1500, there were a few
expeditions to the Americas, and it remained relatively isolated. After 1500, colonies were established
in the new world which helped connect Europe to the Americas, in which Europe benefitted from a
large stream of sugar and precious metals. This change began to introduce new economic activities
that contributed to the rise of the West and many African kingdoms.
4.1.I How did the global trade network after 1500 CE affect the pre existing regional trade networks?
(Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, trans Saharan, Silk Routes)After a global trade network was
developed, focus shifted away from regional trading networks, therefore leading to less dependence on
them. However, these routes were still used to trade New World goods throughout Eurasia.
4.1.II.A What technical developments made transoceanic European travel trade possible? Some of the
technical developments that made transoceanic trade possible were wide hulled sailing ships,
astrolabes, compasses, and guns.
4.1.II.B Where did those developments originate?
Wide hulled sailing ships were derived from Chinese junks and developed in Western Europe, as well

House Of The Seven Gables Essay
Analytical Paragraphs:
House of the Seven Gables
Justin Lowe
Period 3
11/24/15
Paragraph A (Structure)
The novel s structure starts off with an event or more specifically a death that occurs early that sets the
tone and subject for the rest of the story that follows later on in thirty years. Colonel Pyncheon is
killed by Matthew Maule with a curse that is put on the Colonel and his family. God, said the dying
man, pointing his finger, with a ghastly look, at the undismayed countenance of his enemy, God will
give him blood to drink! This quote is the scene where Matthew lays the curse from god on Pyncheon
and his family with the words, God will give him blood to drink! This turn of events occurs a great
deal of time before the actual story of the The House of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tone is slow and descriptive because the narrator frequently takes his time to describe what is
occurring at the moment in great detail as with the characteristics of the characters. HALFWAY down
a by street of one of our New England towns stands a rusty wooden house, with seven acutely peaked
gables, facing towards various points of the compass, and a huge, clustered chimney in the midst. The
street is Pyncheon Street... This quote is an example of how descriptive the author is throughout his
novel, this text can give a clear picture on what the house actually looks like and put a picture in the
reader s head. The tone throughout the novel is also very dark and morbid and sometimes gloomy. But
here is the same face, taken within this half hour said the artist, presenting her with another miniature.
I had just finished it when I heard you at the door. This is death! shuddered Phoebe, turning very pale.

Essay On Vulnerability
Alternate Title
Where Have All the Vulnerabilities Gone?
Application development and use has been changing for several years. The growth of software as a
service has created new challenges for security tools challenges that legacy products are simply unable
to meet. Relying on vulnerability scanners that used public databases of vulnerabilities can have
disastrous consequences, but it was often necessary to do so. However, scanners cannot defend against
a vulnerability that they cannot identify and therein lies the problem.
The problem becomes especially acute for cloud based applications. Vulnerabilities in shrink wrapped
software can be quickly added to databases of known vulnerabilities. The ISV may mention that the

Either the engineers are inherently better at developing cloud based software that is remarkably free of
vulnerabilities or the vulnerabilities are not included in public databases of vulnerabilities. The latter
choice is the more logical conclusion.
Whether apps are developed by an ISV or by a third party provider, the chances are excellent that the
apps will contain third party libraries, recycled code snippets and/or open source code or libraries.
Often, all of these elements exist within the API used to develop the application. Building on what
already exists can make application development faster and more economical, but it also carries the
risk of an unknown vulnerability being repeatedly incorporated into numerous and frequently diverse
applications. Although these vulnerabilities may be new, it is also possible that they have gone
undetected for months or even years. However, since the SaaS vendor s infrastructure is in AWS and
the application is deployed on AWS, neither the network nor the application is available for the rest of
the world to scan.
Clearly, the way that SaaS vendors approach security is due for a change. Every application is
different, and relying on public databases to identify vulnerabilities in SaaS applications is asking for
trouble. Although the practice of identifying vulnerabilities existing within

Essay On Decriminalization Of Narcotics
In the past few decades the issue of narcotics and its distribution has become increasingly alarming.
While Luxembourg is not a major hub for illicit narcotics distribution, isolated incidents related to
narcotics do occur, and we recognize the need to impose sanctions to keep the issue of narcotics under
control. National surveys conducted in Luxembourg have shown that the prevalent use of all common
illicit drugs have shown a decline in the past decade, with the notable exception of cocaine, which has
shown an increase, and cannabis still being the most used illicit drug among young people, making
that a concern to us. The majority of illicit substances consumed in Luxembourg originate from the
Netherlands, Belgium and Morocco, supplying mainly cannabis and synthetic drugs, and Luxembourg
is hoping to coordinate with nations internationally to help reduce that. ... Show more content on

However the 2001 Law of April 27th [1] decriminalized the consumption of cannabis, meaning that
the use of cannabis continues to be regarded as an illicit activity but the punishment will no longer
include criminal sanctions. Observing that criminalization and repressive measures have not had the
desired results, Luxembourg believes that prevention of drug addiction is key, which is why according
to the law of 19th February 1973, the Court has the right to abandon pursuits of drug addicts who
agree to undergo detoxification, and we believe that decriminalization, but not legalization, is most
effective when dealing with certain narcotics such as cannabis. Therefore, Luxembourg is in favor of
the decriminalization of drugs such as cannabis , and we support and are willing to work with any
actions taken by member nations to limit and reduce the transportation and distribution of

Faith Bandler s Theory
Faith Bandler. Born 1918, Tumbulgum NSW, one of 8 children. A descendant of South Sea Islanders.
South sea islanders refers to the Australian descendants of people from more than 80 islands in the
Western Pacific who were recruited between the mid to late 19th century as labour in the sugarcane
fields of Queensland. Some were even kidnapped or blackbirded into long term services.
At the age of only 12 13 her father was kidnapped from the island of Ambrym, in 1883, and brought to
Australia to work as an unpaid labourer in the Queensland cane fields. Could any of you imagine that?

Benching Jim Crow Summary
Review of Benching Jim Crow by Charles H. Martin If states are the laboratories of democracy, then
sports are the arena in which it is tested. This book serves as a review of racial integration and the
changing dynamics in sports from 1890 1980. Charles Martin aims for the reader to understand why it
was common place for white southerners to compete against non black ethnic minorities (E.G. Native
Americans, Chinese), but an issue when even a single African American was on an opposing team.
Benching Jim Crow explains to the reader that the persistence of segregation lay with overarching
cultural mentalities left over from the Civil War, but shifts in position came from external (financial),
and internal (students and players). Though offering little insight into the legal and political impacts of
Jim Crow itself, Martin paints a detailed, but redundant, narrative of the rise and fall of Jim Crow in
athletics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As schools began to engage in intercollegiate sports at the turn of the century, Southern schools
unofficially required that the opposing team bench any of their players if they were colored. If the
team declined to do so, it was common place for the southern school to not field a team. Martin
explains that Southern universities would rarely know the lineup of their competitors in the earlier
years of football, so these decisions were often made upon arrival. More likely than not, when a
southern school forfeited a match it would lay blame to the opposing team for not respecting its long
standing traditions and sensibilities. (18,

For this observation, I tried to look up the relationship between supplier and offices. From 2012 to
2015, top 10 suppliers generated $63216036878.69 dollars in total (Table 2.1). Based on the table 2.2,
Department of Health Care Services spent $83590661471.67 dollars on Purchasing 529 items in total

Comparing Rushdie s Haroun And The Sea Of Stories
Shaping a Novel Through Comparisons : Language, Image, and Personality in Salman Rushdie s
Haroun and the Sea of Stories
Salman Rushdie is a world famous author born in India in 1947. He began writing at a young age and
later pursued this as a career. Rushdie wrote an extremely controversial book called The Satanic
Verses and was persecuted, hunted, and, ultimately, thrown out of his country. During his time of
hiding, Rushdie wrote Haroun and the Sea of Stories (Wikipedia). This novel has censorship woven
through it just as Rushdie experienced himself. However, he incorporates special characters to relate
to others in the outside world while they relate to each other, in a positive and negative manner, in the
story. In fact, in Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Salman Rushdie reveals that each character relates to
another character through their language, image, and personality.

Often, the reader sees how Mr. Sengupta and Cultmaster Khattam Shud are very similar. These
characters relate to each other because they are both cynical and weaselly; ultimately, these characters

out Khattam Shud saying, I know you...you re him. You re Mr. Sengupta...and you re a sniveling,
drivelling, mingy, stingy, measly, weaselly clerk (Rushdie 155). The imagery placed in the reader s
mind when Mr. Sengupta and Khattam Shud come into play is extremely negative. The audience is
almost able to imagine what he or she believes each of these characters would look like: evil yet
insignificant. In this way, Salman Rushdie has achieved the goal any writer hopes to: to provide a

The Role Of Client And The Right Treatment Plan

In order to obtain a psychometric measure of therapeutic alliance the session rating scale is utilized
giving real time feedback measuring a client s perception, progress and the strength of the therapeutic
alliance, the session rating scales consists of two scales the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) and the
Session Rating Scale (SRS) (Miller et al., 2006). The client is presented with the ORS at the start of
the session and marks an X on four different lines relating to a self report indicating the client s
individual, interpersonal relationship, and social functioning (Miller, 2012) giving the therapist an
insight to the client s perception of their world (Duncan et al. 2004). These results will determine the
client s uniqueness and therapy needs (Duncan et al. 2004). Miller (2012) explains the SRS, is

Fallacies In Sandra Steingraber s When Cowboys Cry
Fallacies The Wild West was a period of lawlessness of the untamed territories west of the Mississippi

all cowboys. In Sandra Steingraber s When Cowboys Cry she is making comparison to the ranchers of
Montana to cowboys, while comparing their situation to the Wild West. The ranchers in Montana are
concerned about the hydrofracking that is going on, and that it s damaging the environment all over

The Gap Between Economic And Social Classes
In modern the modern day United states, Americans face a problem that drastically affects the way we
have to live life. Our healthcare system has become drastically irregular and unequal in the current
system. After thorough analyzation of the provided CTSIP tables one can clearly see the gap between
economic and social classes that exists in the current structure and can place the said data into both a
functionalist and marxist perspective.
Based on the data, there are certain patterns that appear frequently throughout. The overarching theme
is that healthcare is not easily accessible for the lower class of america. The upper class can bothy
afford easily access health care through its money while the lower class unfortunately has to deal
without it the majority of the time. Graph one clearly shows us a the the lower class does not have
healthcare(with an unusual spike in the middle class). We also see that there is a rather large gap in
between those that earn 25,000 35,000 and those that 35,000 55,000. The latter group has a vastly
superior amount of people with health care. Almost to a doubled amount. The reasons for no health
care? The CTSIP study surveyed a numerous number of possible rationale including: healthy and don t
need insurance , employer does not provide coverage , self employed and the cost is too high , among
many others. The findings can be striking. The majority of those surveyed said that they simply cannot
afford the premiums of health care so

Similarities Between Texas Constitution And Us Constitution
On September 17, 1787, the U.S. constitution was signed. The U.S. constitution is a document that has
a set of rules, guidelines, and principles that governs our nation. This constitution is the oldest written
national document and has had 27 amendments. The current Texas constitution is the seventh
document written for Texas. The previous six were all when Texas was still apart of Mexico. The
current constitution hasn t been revised since 1876, which makes it the longest state constitution in the
United States.
The U.S. constitution and the Texas constitution have similarities and differences. Both constitutions
have a Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is a summary of the rights given to all people. These
constitutions also talk about suffrage and taxes. Just like how both of these constitutions have
similarities, they also have differences. The Texas constitution is longer than the U.S. constitution and
discusses the rights first. It also deals with state and local issues not brought up in the U.S.
constitution. Both constitutions have a Bill of Rights, but the Texas constitution discusses citizens
rights at the beginning of article one. The Texas Bill of Rights has the same protections for citizens
like the U.S. Bill of Rights does, but the Texas Bill of Rights extends beyond federal protections. The
executive branch is the branch that the president is in charge of. The definition of the executive branch

Abortion Thesis Essay
Printer Friendly Version
Thesis
Abortion is a totally unacceptable, cruel and unethical practice and
should be considered illegal except under some special cases and medical
circumstances that indicate a danger to the mother. Our judicial system
must consider the ethical and moral aspects of abortion as an intrinsic
part of the problem when approaching this social issue. The recent banning
of the partial birth abortion is a huge stride in the positive direction.
Introduction
Abortion is the one of the most debated social issues of this
century. The controversy as to the right that man has over the life of a
baby in the fetus and in controlling its entry into the world is a much
debated topic. Abortion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore they argue that the
embryo cannot be treated as a human being until such a time that it is
fully developed to live outside the mother s womb. So they consider using
the abortion pill as perfectly right and acceptable method of terminating
pregnancy.
Pro Life
On the other hand we have the Pro life group, which opines that
abortion in any form to be an unacceptable and inhuman practice and nothing
short of brutal murder and infringement of the rights of the baby in the
fetus. The Pro life group views the problem from an entirely different
perspective. This group considers that life begins as soon as the baby is
conceived and hence abortion is viewed as a breach of rights of the baby.
However the group approves abortion as the last and only resort in cases of
emergency wherein the life of both the baby and the mother or at least one
of them is at stake. Abortion is also approved in cases wherein the child
is abnormal with severe birth defects.
Partial Birth abortion
This is the worst and the cruelest form of abortion. The Woman s

Sustainability In New York City
A modern city must take the initiative to not only look at the immediate problems, but also foresee any
problems that lie ahead. Mega cities must maintain the social, geographical, and environmental
aspects of a modern city. New York City is an ever growing city that must adjust to the impending
complications that lie ahead. New York City has taken many initiatives in the twenty first century to
try and improve the life of future New Yorkers. Mayor De Blasio has done a great job so far enacting

Upholding a sustainable global influence makes New York City an example of leadership in
international economics. If New York City was its own country, it would rank as the 15th largest
economy in the world. One of the most important aspects of an influence on the global economy is the
New York Stock Exchange. The New York Stock Exchange is seen as one of the most lucrative
securities exchange in the entire world. Monday through Friday the worlds largest companies take part
in the stock exchange in order to give the public an opportunity to hold and trade public equities. The
New York Stock exchange can influence the entire global economy through it s peaks and troughs of

world, but it also serves a huge purpose in the sustainability of New York City. Domestic and
international business is what allows New York City to thrive. The large flow of money that goes in

Economic Strength is Effective More Than Guns (FOR)
We must work our destiny in our own way and present to the world an economic system based on true
Islamic concept of equality of manhood and social justice. We will thereby be fulfilling our mission as
Muslims and giving to humanity the message of peace which alone can save it and secure the welfare,
happiness and prosperity of mankind.
These are the words of our beloved leader, the founder of Pakistan, the Quaid i Azam M. Ali Jinnah on
the occasion of inauguration of the state bank of Pakistan, giving the message of peace and welfare.
My arguments are in favor of economic strength. The first question that would strike people s minds is
why economic strength or why guns. Let s go back and ponder on the beginning.
Since the inception of mankind, man has been striving hard for his survival. Life gives challenges and
the supreme creature of God counters them. The journey from living in caves to residing in sky high
buildings has been a journey of gaining strength. This strength has always been gained in two
dimensions, the wealth and the might. Some people and nations went to strengthen their military
might and ruled the world, others focused on economy to keep their flag high. Time does not remain
the same. In past when world was not so advanced, use of force or the use of guns was the way
forward. Brutality and bloodshed earned the strength. Without military might, nations collapsed. But
now the dawn of twenty first

Cursive Negative Writing
Cursive handwriting has been considered an educational staple for years but with all the advances in
modern technology has the need to know how to write in cursive become irrelevent? With almost all
classes going digital should cursive no longer be taught to the younger generations? Some people
believe cursive handwriting is essential to the development of an active mind. Some people believe
typing things out as opposed to actually handwriting messages is more beneficial. Where do you stand
on this topic? Do you think public schools should teach their students how to write in cursive? Do you
think cursive handwriting is becoming obsolete?
As with many things taught to the younger generations, there always comes some sort of debate on
whether or not the knowledge being distributed is actually beneficial to their developing minds in the
long run. Will what the schools are teaching them actually help them in their lives as (hopefully) fully
functioning adults? Cursive handwriting and whether or not to remove it permenantly from the
educational curriculum has been being tossed back and forth. A survey given to handwriting teachers
revealed that only 37% of the handwriting teachers wrote in cursive. It used to be that a persons name
written in cursive was an important part of their identity, their literal and figurative signature so to
speak, but that is no longer the case. A signature is no longer needed for most legal documents now a
days. The use of an electronic signature

Exploring the African American Woman s Identity through the Arts
In the Africa American culture, there has been a longstanding discussion of the black woman s
physical appearance and how they identify themselves in society. Though there are many themes of
the Black experience in the media that discuss the standard of beauty Black women should have.
However, theatre has a creative and tactful way of exploring these topics that are considered taboo in
the African American culture. During the Black Arts Movement, topics such as black empowerment
and self identity were the blue print for what the movement stood for. In reference to, A Brief Guide to
the Black Arts Movement Writers, African American artists within the movement sought to create
politically engaged work that explored the African American cultural and historical experience (A
Brief Guide to the Black Arts Movement Writers.1). Prolific writers such as, Ntozake Shange s, Amari
Baraka, and Nikki Giovanni, just to name a few, were revolutionary in a creative and political
movement, which allowed for writers and poets to demonstrate the pains and qualms of what African
Americans faced in Western society. Two African American playwrights, Lorraine Hansberry and
Adrienne Kennedy, expounded on these topics in their plays A Raisin in the Sun and Funny House
Negro. In the further exploration of stigmas of African American female hair and self identification
through theatre, these plays will be used as a platform to

Discuss The Nature Of Evil In The Minister s Black Veil
Additionally, Hawthorne s use of the motif the nature of evil aids to convey the negative effects of
guilt and sin in both The Scarlet Letter and The Minister s Black Veil. In The Scarlet Letter, when
Chillingworth finds out about Hester s affair, his temperament immediately changes. Hawthorne
describes this as, Calm, gentle, passionless, as he appeared, there was yet, we fear, a quiet depth of
malice, hitherto latent, but active now, in this unfortunate old man, which led him to imagine a more
intimate revenge than any mortal had ever wreaked upon an enemy (209). Although the people of the
town view Hester s sins as evil, Chillingworth is actually the most evil of all. He is willing to do
anything for revenge, due to the sin Hester committed by having an affair with Dimmesdale. Harold

Chillingworth becomes so obsessed with the idea exposing Dimmesdale for his sins, he actually ends
up turning evil himself. Chillingworth displays the nature of evil by plotting against Dimmesdale and
dedicating his entire existence towards revenge, eventually driving him mad. Comparatively,
Hawthorne also uses the motif of evil in The Minister s Black Veil to display the negative effects of
guilt and sin. In The Minister s Black Veil, Reverend Hooper wears the veil to take on the evil nature
all of humanity possesses. In doing so, he begins to change as a person. People no longer want him at
their funerals or weddings, and he begins to reflect evil wherever he goes. This is shown at a wedding,

I Am Insane-Personal Narrative
I trembled with an overwhelming feeling of terror regarding the impossibility of the previous day s
events. I could not no matter how hard I tried wrap my head around them. Had they been ghosts? Had
the died that day three years ago, and now have been haunting the house, going about their past lives?
Or maybe I didn t really see them, Maybe they weren t really there. Maybe I m insane. Though, of
course I suppose that would also have to qualify Vera and Mrs. Sappleton for insanity as well. After
all, they saw them, too. I started thinking of any scientifically sound Explanation for what had
happened to cloak the supernatural one that had arisen first in my mind. However, I was snapped out
of my thoughts by the eminently distressing sound of the ringing telephone. I dubiously answered ...

Yes, that s actually why i came back. You see, I wasn t always this nervous. It all began after my wife
disappeared about six years ago. We looked for her everywhere, but she was never found. It took me
years to accept the fact that she is gone. Though, sometimes I can still hear her voice. It sings, she

Once or twice in the past i have even seen her. She dances around the house. It is truly terrifying, but I

Vera s face transformed into one full of guilt, Oh. I m so sorry about your wife, Mr. Nuttel. I lied about

Analysis Of Nighthawks By Edward Hopper
Nighthawks by Edward Hopper is one of my all time favorite paintings, and has been a painting I have
enjoyed researching throughout my life because of how much I resonate with this painting. This is an
astonishing painting, not only in the sense of it being beautiful art, but because this is a piece that is so
significant and loved by so many people around the world. I would say that even if you have not ever
seen the original painting, you have probably seen it reproduced in different ways in many different
places.
The world is bursting with all kinds of versions of this painting. All of these tributes are made because
of how much this painting has resonated with the people who have seen it. The beautiful composition
and the many well used elements in this painting have always intrigued and interested me. I think that
Hopper created a piece that can truly resonate with so many different people.
Edward Hopper expressed his love for art early in his life and was determined to make something out
of himself in the field of art:
Edward Hopper was born in Nyack, New York, a town located on the west side of the Hudson River,
to a middle class family that encouraged his artistic abilities. After graduating from high school, he
studied briefly at the Correspondence School of Illustrating in New York City (1899 1900), and then
he enrolled in classes at the New York School of Art (1900 1906). In his shift from illustration to the
fine arts, he studied with William Merritt Chase, a

Google A Web Based Search Engine For The Internet
Back in 1996 two students from Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, credited a web
based search engine for the internet. The program s first name was Backrub and was later changed to
Google in 1998. Google is one of the best known and admired companies in the world. Their search
engine on the internet today usually gets 1 billion searches per day. Google grew from 10 employees
working in a garage to over 10,000 employees worldwide. Google was the first to put the customer
first into their internet search engines. Their mission statement To organize the world s information
and to make it universally accessible and useful. Google makes it their commitment to end user needs.
While all the other search engines were trying to increase they re advertising revenue. Google went
the other direction and left just their search bar on the title screen and made sure there were no ads.
They resisted on pop up advertising, they felt that it was annoying to the users they insisted they
would have sponsored links for their advertising. They really wanted to put emphasize on improving
customer experience than putting the revenue first. In order to compete with Microsoft and Yahoo,
Google wanted to employ the power of differentiation to create a competitive advantage over its
competitors. They wanted the advantage of having faster response times, and greater scalability at
lower costs on which making them the most used search engines in the world.

Analysis of Jonathan Swift´s A Modest Proposal Essay
Poverty has been a problem not only in Texas or the United States, but all over the world. Many types
of individuals have addressed this topic for years, raised money, volunteered, but still, as much as
there s said and done, the issue hasn t been fazed a bit. From Jonathan Swift s Modest Proposal, he
clarifies the poverty issued throughout Ireland in the early 1700 s and how one suggestion could
change it all. Elaborated from the Literary Reference Center, A Modest Proposal, like Gulliver s
Travels, transcends the political, social, and economic crisis that gave birth to it, woeful as they were.

As the audience continues to read The Modest Proposal, they see that maybe he isn t joking, that he
really wants to eat the babies and start a new fashion trend. To make things more believable, he states
times of the year when the babies are just right, they re not too done or underdone. Swift specifies that
the little ones fattened up would be delicacies at banquets, christenings, or any special celebration.
From the book itself, Swift states that, The skin that is left from the infants carcasses could be used for
ladies gloves and men s boots... the carcasses can be sold for a decent price to any and all. Many
kings, queens, higher lords, and upper class take this proposal as a suitable option. Some even tended
to make breeding farms for women to make scrumptious little darlings over and over again until their
time of birthing was done. Did this really happen, you say? Did it even fall through and decrease
poverty?
All in all, Swift addressed the issue in a way that no one would have thought. In the end, he wasn t
being serious about harvesting the little ones and digesting them, but simply letting everyone open
their eyes and see what was going around in their small community of Ireland. Some might say Swift
was sick, crazy, but he was simply genius. Using this strategic option created ways for people to set
forth and fix the problem. Just like himself,

The Eve of St. Agnes, by John Keats
In his poem The Eve of St. Agnes , John Keats writes of a tragic romantic tale of two star crossed
lovers sharing many similarities with William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. The poem follows a
young man named Porphyro who love Madeline, a daughter of the king of a feuding family. During
the evening of St. Agnes: a day that virginity is celebrated, Porphyro sneaks into Madeline s room
with some help and takes advantage of her while she was in a dream like trance. Porphyro then
convinces Madeline to run off with him into the winter storm that was brewing outside and they are
never seen again. Keats presents his poem in a unique way that allows the audience to have multiple
ways to interpret the actions and intents of the characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem becomes darker and Madeline and Porphyro are contrasted as phantoms as they glide out of
the castle and into the storm (Keats 1839). This shift could have been the result of the heavy
consequences that both Porphyro and Madeline have to face because of their actions. Although
Madeline and Porphyro are together, this darker tone seems to shed it in the light that their relationship
is now tainted and against all that is good in the world.
Now that the setting, imagery, and descriptive detail have been taken into account, the decisions and
actions of the characters can be examined. Although she is a minor character, Angela: one of Madeline
maids catches Porphyro sneaking around the castle in the middle of the night and starts the beginning
of the consequences of the night. By exclaiming as soon as she catches him, I will not harm her, from
all saints I swear and saying that he will throw himself to death at the hands of the guardsmen if he
does not see her, Porphyro manages to convince Angela that he truly does love Madeline (Keats
1834). Against her judgment and fueled by her knowledge that Madeline secret love Porphyro back
she reluctantly lead him to Madeline rooms and hides him in the closet knowing that Porphyro only
wants to see Madeline and not sleep with her (Keats 1834 1835). It is not her fault entirely of the
consequences of that night cause she was told by Porphyro that he only would watch

John Donne s Poetry
John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many metaphysical
poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events
unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit
sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a
lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living,
it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry
before he went to work with the church. He changed the way most poets of the 16th and 17th centuries
wrote and had a large impact on the poets to follow after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning,
Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not
using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical
conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many
were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the
metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics.
Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener.
Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly
write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large
descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t
have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the
poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show the intensity of

Physics of Boating Essay
The first thing you should know is the physics behind a boat, seeing how you can t have a boating
adventure without one. To keep it simple, let s check out the main thing you should know about a
boat: Buoyancy. Buoyancy, by definition, is the upward force exerted by a liquid on any immersed
object. If the force of the liquid on the object is greater than that of the object on the liquid then the
object will float. In other words buoyancy is dependent upon the density of the liquid and the volume
of the object submerged.
Buoyancy:
Fb= d*g*V
Where Fb= the magnitude of the buoyant force
d= density of the liquid, g= force of gravity (9.8 m/s^2), V= volume of the submerged object

The bald eagle is not an uncommon sight when boating in Southeast Alaska. It is a massive bird that
flies with the greatest of ease. Lets take a look at the casually oversimplified physics behind the flight
of a bird. Basically, birds wings are not flat but are shaped like an aerofoil. Air passes over or under
the wing as the bird moves forward, or as the wind blows. The air that moves over the top of the wing
has further to travel to get across the wing, thus it speeds up. This causes the pressure to drop because
the same amount of air is exerting its pressure over a greater area. Therefore, any given point
experiences less pressure. This effectively sucks the wing up. Meanwhile the air going below the wing
experiences the opposite effect. It slows down, generates more pressure and effectively pushes the
wing up. Hence a bird with air moving over its wings is pulled up from above and pushed up from
below.

A Major Threat Of An Economy Comes From Climate Change
A major threat in an economy comes from climate change. Excessive rain or warmer than expected
winters, increase the risk for a lot of companies, mainly in the solar and energy sector, and ultimately
affects their revenues. As the wind and solar industry continues to grow, investors are injecting more
capital in order to organize this industry by way of decreasing the risks inherent to it. Accordingly, and
as more money is invested in these markets, more investors and stakeholders are looking for better
risk management techniques that could protect their assets and ensure a steady flow in revenue.
Derivatives are financial instruments used to transfer the risk associated with the variation in the
underlying asset to a third party inclined at accepting that risk, but in exchange for a premium ; thus,
the payoff from derivatives depends on the value of this underlying asset. Consequently, the protection
or insurance paid from a certain derivative depends on the level of an index, as opposed to traditional
insurance that depends on real losses.
A unique type of derivatives is Weather Derivatives that identify their payouts based on certain
weather conditions that unfavorably affect the revenues of a business. Weather derivatives, unlike
conventional derivatives that are based on tradable assets such as stocks, bonds, currencies, etc., have
weather as the underlying variable that is considered as non negotiable; implying that the aim of
weather derivatives is to manage

The Regulator Movement was caused by increased population, economic depression, and political
corruption while significantly affecting the North Carolina Constitution and the Revolutionary War.
Immigrants of German, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descent were moving to the North Carolina
backcountry that the English colonists were fleeing to from New England high land prices, which
increased the population of the area. This seemed ideal because the backcountry land was cheap and

African American Freedom And Injustice
The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint, is what we know today as
Freedom. While an unjust act or occurrence is implied as Injustice. These two terms are examples of
the issues that many African Americans face daily in America. Freedom and Injustice could be
combined to define the term of Slavery. Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were
brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the production of
such lucrative crops as tobacco. It was practiced throughout the American colonies in the 17th and
18th centuries, and African American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation.
Slavery was ultimately outlawed and laws prohibiting discrimination against African Americans
passed, racism against this community remains and is manifested in more subtle ways today. The song
Be Free is a response to the accident of African American teen, Mike Brown, who was shot by a police

Extra 10 Points In High School
I deserve an extra ten points on my semester grade average because I need to pass to the twelve grade.
Ten points will be a big help to my grade. Students all over Roosevelt High school would gladly
accept an extra ten points.
The grading system was made, for student to pass or fail. This, of course, is absurd. What we need is a
system that do not judge a student work. Put your all in your work just to see a teacher put a failing
grade on your work. When student fail some dropout of school, and become another negative static.
How would you feel if someone you knew personnel, dropout school because they felt like was just
getting harder everyday? Do you want to see your students succeed, and become successful?
You will make the right decision

My Dream Home
My dream house may be a little different from what other people may like but I will tell you that my
heaven would be no different than what I experience everyday here. I love the adventures that I am
able to experience everyday, there is not one dull moment Of all of my wildest dreams there is not one
hobby that I would not be able to manifest. Most of my time is spent outside so I do need an awesome
landscape where I can get exercise while having fun. My yard is the second greatest place in my
house. This is where my few visitors are the most besides my play room. They thought that I was
crazy when I said I would live in a volcano, but obviously no one has ever tried to jump into an
erupting volcano. The hard part is finding out when the next eruption is which takes years of study and
know that if you miss it you have to wait until the next one. They say volcano s are the gate of hell,
but for me it s just the opposite. You may say how can you jump into a erupting volcano you would
burn alive . But that isn t true, when magma spews from the crater it isn t hot until it has been in the
air for 30 seconds or until it has been on the ground for at least 30 seconds. So here is how it works,
before an eruption you jump inside Mount. Fiji. When the magma blows and breaks open the crater
you need a scuba diving suit because there is a lot of swimming (approximately 1 mile). It takes about
20 minutes to get there, but just go straight down (there will be a lot of ear

Paleolithic Vs Neolithic Research Paper
I would prefer living in the Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era.
One main reason is that the Paleolithic men were much healthier than the Neolithic men in the ways
that, Paleolithic men were foragers and they moved their food which led them to not staying in one
spot permanently. This means that sickness and diseases were not easily passed on. Unlike the
Neolithic men who did have permanent settlements and had illness passed around quite easily. Also it
says in the passage Old Stone Age vs. New Stone Age that The adoption of grains in the Neolithic era
coincided with a shortening of stature, thinner bones and crooked, cavity ridden teeth. Since
Paleolithic Era did not domesticated grains they only ate wild grains they were taller, ... Show more

They created created language by using symbolic language (using symbols or sounds to communicate)
and collective learning (telling other people about your discoveries so they can use it and the
information does not die). Although the Neolithic man did create some very important discoveries too
(the wheel, calendars, time keeping etc.) they would not have able to make these discoveries without
language.
Another reason is that the Paleolithic people had a healthy balanced diet. The Paleolithic people had a
main diet of meat, fruits, vegetables, and wild grains. Whereto the Neolithic people had a main diet of
wheat, yams, corn, rice, and maze. As we ve seen in paragraph one grains make your bones thinner,
decrease your height, and make you have crooked teeth. Therefore the Paleolithic people had a better
balanced diet which allowed them to be healthier.
My fourth reason is that you are a farmer (Neolithic) and one year you have bad weather and your
crops don t grow. Now you have very little if any food. That doesn t just effect a couple of people
though. That effect your whole clan or colony which can be a lot of people. Whereto if your a forager
(Paleolithic) and you don t have a permanent settlement then if one year you have bad weather you
don t need to stress about it because you can move like you do anyway for your

The Book Thief Theme
Shifting from Liesel, Death takes us to a small dark room where we come upon a sad hunched figure.
A man, a Jewish man sits alone in this room filtering and re filtering the same stale air. Starving and
scared this figure only rises from himself to greet his friend Walter. Max wake up. (139) Walter came
with gifts, a fake identity card, a copy of Mein Kampf containing a key and a small ration of food
barely large enough to be considered a meal. breaking his food into the portions Max devoured what
he allowed himself before pleading to a man hundreds of miles away. Please. (141) While Max beg for

her readings both that of The Shoulder Shrug and those she could get her hands on in the mayors
library. When she wasn t reading or delivering clothes she was out in the streets playing soccer with
the other children and growing closer to Rudy, showing the beginning signs of attraction. Both Liesel
and Rudy were experiencing hunger, as Rosa was forced to provide her family with pea shop day in
and day out. Their hunger had driven them to the point that when presented the opportunity from a

The Democratic Party Split Of 1860 Over The Slavery Issue
The Democratic Party split in 1860 over the slavery issue. The Democrats from the Northern states
were against slavery or at least the expansion of slavery in the new territories while the Democrats
from the Southern states wanted to preserve slavery in their states and were for extending it in the new
territories. On April 23, 1860, the Democrats met in Charleston, South Carolina with the goals of
finalizing their platform and nominating a presidential candidate. In the North the Democratic
candidate was the moderate Stephen Douglas. Voters in the South chose John Breckenridge, a
defender of Southern rights . The Southern Democrats hated Douglas, although he was not completely
opposed to slavery in the West, he wanted to limit the institution s use in the territories, by initiating
popular sovereignty. A key play by Lincoln in the Lincoln Douglas Debates in 1858 helped the
Southerners realize this. Because the Democrats were split between different candidates and the
Republican Party was united behind Abraham Lincoln, they won more electoral votes. Therefore,
Lincoln became president.
Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president. It was his election that convinced South Carolina
to secede from the Union. Though not an abolitionist, Lincoln was an opponent of slavery and
determined to use all means at his disposal to stop its spread. Because the Republican Party was an
anti slavery party, South Carolina, along with several other states, saw the election of Lincoln

Concept Of Feminism In Mahabharata
This paper explores the idea of feminism represented by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The paper uses

Houses In Pompeii
The exterior of the house is fairly plain. The main entrance (pictured top right) opens off the west side
of the Vico Dei Vettii just north of its junction with the Vicolo di Mercurio. Save for this entrance and
a side door near the south east corner the exterior walls were unbroken except for small, square
windows some of which were in low second storey rooms (an artist s reconstruction of what the house
may have looked like is pictured right).
Like several other notable houses in Pompeii, the house was a casualty of bombing during the second
World War. In late September 1943 allied bombs caused considerable damage to the property,
particularly along the north side of the peristyle. The structural damage was repaired but some fourth

Contraceptives And Birth Control
Contraceptives or birth control are methods that prevent unplanned pregnancies but are also used
promote family planning, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and treat
cosmetic and gynecological conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent,
about 45% of all pregnancies in 2011 were unplanned in the United States, which was a 51% decline
since 2008.1 Of those about 50% resulted without birth control use and the other half reported using a
method of birth control. In addition, of the 45% of unplanned pregnancies, higher rates are seen in
adolescents and ethnic minorities, which leads to an increase risk for poor maternal and infant
outcomes and an increase in abortions across the globe.2 According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), 16 million births to mothers aged 15 19 years old were reported in 2008.3 This represented
11% of births worldwide and of these births 95% were in developing countries.3 The 2014 World
Health Statistics reported that the average global birth rate for 15 19 year old girls is 4.9%, where the
rates are the highest in sub Saharan Africa.4 Although there is no universal trend toward early
initiation of sexual activity, the higher rate of pregnancies seen in teens, adolescents, and ethnic
minorities can be related to cultural influences, gender and social norms, lack of sexual and primary
education, improper use of contraceptives, and/or the restricted access of reproductive health care
services.3

The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment
INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever changing. The emergence of new
species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural
occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its
inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been
exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and
ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats,
negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species
(Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat
loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of
biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked:
recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways,
usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017).
Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in
popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the
Southern Black Forest revealed that red deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in
dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active

Key Concept 4.1 Globalizing Networks of Communication and Exchange 4.1 Describe the degree of global interconnection after 1500 CE compared to before 1500. What were the overall effects of this change in global interconnectedness? The interconnection before 1500 and after 1500 posed major differences in the degree of interconnection. Before 1500, there were a few expeditions to the Americas, and it remained relatively isolated. After 1500, colonies were established in the new world which helped connect Europe to the Americas, in which Europe benefitted from a large stream of sugar and precious metals. This change began to introduce new economic activities that contributed to the rise of the West and many African kingdoms. 4.1.I How did the global trade network after 1500 CE affect the pre existing regional trade networks? (Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, trans Saharan, Silk Routes)After a global trade network was developed, focus shifted away from regional trading networks, therefore leading to less dependence on them. However, these routes were still used to trade New World goods throughout Eurasia. 4.1.II.A What technical developments made transoceanic European travel trade possible? Some of the technical developments that made transoceanic trade possible were wide hulled sailing ships, astrolabes, compasses, and guns. 4.1.II.B Where did those developments originate? Wide hulled sailing ships were derived from Chinese junks and developed in Western Europe, as well as, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colonel Pyncheon is killed by Matthew Maule with a curse that is put on the Colonel and his family. God, said the dying man, pointing his finger, with a ghastly look, at the undismayed countenance of his enemy, God will give him blood to drink! • 4. Essay On Vulnerability Alternate Title Where Have All the Vulnerabilities Gone? Application development and use has been changing for several years. The growth of software as a service has created new challenges for security tools challenges that legacy products are simply unable to meet. Relying on vulnerability scanners that used public databases of vulnerabilities can have disastrous consequences, but it was often necessary to do so. However, scanners cannot defend against a vulnerability that they cannot identify and therein lies the problem. The problem becomes especially acute for cloud based applications. Vulnerabilities in shrink wrapped software can be quickly added to databases of known vulnerabilities. The ISV may mention that the current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Either the engineers are inherently better at developing cloud based software that is remarkably free of vulnerabilities or the vulnerabilities are not included in public databases of vulnerabilities. The latter choice is the more logical conclusion. Whether apps are developed by an ISV or by a third party provider, the chances are excellent that the apps will contain third party libraries, recycled code snippets and/or open source code or libraries. Often, all of these elements exist within the API used to develop the application. Building on what already exists can make application development faster and more economical, but it also carries the risk of an unknown vulnerability being repeatedly incorporated into numerous and frequently diverse applications. Although these vulnerabilities may be new, it is also possible that they have gone undetected for months or even years. However, since the SaaS vendor s infrastructure is in AWS and the application is deployed on AWS, neither the network nor the application is available for the rest of the world to scan. While Luxembourg is not a major hub for illicit narcotics distribution, isolated incidents related to narcotics do occur, and we recognize the need to impose sanctions to keep the issue of narcotics under control. National surveys conducted in Luxembourg have shown that the prevalent use of all common illicit drugs have shown a decline in the past decade, with the notable exception of cocaine, which has shown an increase, and cannabis still being the most used illicit drug among young people, making that a concern to us. Charles Martin aims for the reader to understand why it was common place for white southerners to compete against non black ethnic minorities (E.G. Benching Jim Crow explains to the reader that the persistence of segregation lay with overarching cultural mentalities left over from the Civil War, but shifts in position came from external (financial), and internal (students and players). • 27. Analysis Of Nighthawks By Edward Hopper Nighthawks by Edward Hopper is one of my all time favorite paintings, and has been a painting I have enjoyed researching throughout my life because of how much I resonate with this painting. This is an astonishing painting, not only in the sense of it being beautiful art, but because this is a piece that is so significant and loved by so many people around the world. I would say that even if you have not ever seen the original painting, you have probably seen it reproduced in different ways in many different places. The world is bursting with all kinds of versions of this painting. All of these tributes are made because of how much this painting has resonated with the people who have seen it. The beautiful composition and the many well used elements in this painting have always intrigued and interested me. I think that Hopper created a piece that can truly resonate with so many different people. Edward Hopper expressed his love for art early in his life and was determined to make something out of himself in the field of art: Edward Hopper was born in Nyack, New York, a town located on the west side of the Hudson River, to a middle class family that encouraged his artistic abilities. After graduating from high school, he studied briefly at the Correspondence School of Illustrating in New York City (1899 1900), and then he enrolled in classes at the New York School of Art (1900 1906). In his shift from illustration to the fine arts, he studied with William Merritt Chase, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Google went the other direction and left just their search bar on the title screen and made sure there were no ads. The writing of the mystic and the visionary perhaps belongs to a rather special category which might be called Super reality; on the whole one tends to think of realism in terms of the everyday, the normal, the pragmatic, more crudely, it suggests jackers off, sleeves rolled up, a no nonsense approach. Many types of individuals have addressed this topic for years, raised money, volunteered, but still, as much as there s said and done, the issue hasn t been fazed a bit. From Jonathan Swift s Modest Proposal, he clarifies the poverty issued throughout Ireland in the early 1700 s and how one suggestion could change it all. Elaborated from the Literary Reference Center, A Modest Proposal, like Gulliver s Travels, transcends the political, social, and economic crisis that gave birth to it, woeful as they were. To make things more believable, he states times of the year when the babies are just right, they re not too done or underdone. Swift specifies that the little ones fattened up would be delicacies at banquets, christenings, or any special celebration. From the book itself, Swift states that, The skin that is left from the infants carcasses could be used for ladies gloves and men s boots... the carcasses can be sold for a decent price to any and all. Many kings, queens, higher lords, and upper class take this proposal as a suitable option. Some even tended to make breeding farms for women to make scrumptious little darlings over and over again until their time of birthing was done. Did this really happen, you say? Did it even fall through and decrease poverty? All in all, Swift addressed the issue in a way that no one would have thought. In the end, he wasn t being serious about harvesting the little ones and digesting them, but simply letting everyone open their eyes and see what was going around in their small community of Ireland. • 32. The Eve of St. Agnes, by John Keats In his poem The Eve of St. Agnes , John Keats writes of a tragic romantic tale of two star crossed lovers sharing many similarities with William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. The poem follows a young man named Porphyro who love Madeline, a daughter of the king of a feuding family. During the evening of St. Agnes: a day that virginity is celebrated, Porphyro sneaks into Madeline s room with some help and takes advantage of her while she was in a dream like trance. Porphyro then convinces Madeline to run off with him into the winter storm that was brewing outside and they are never seen again. Keats presents his poem in a unique way that allows the audience to have multiple ways to interpret the actions and intents of the characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem becomes darker and Madeline and Porphyro are contrasted as phantoms as they glide out of the castle and into the storm (Keats 1839). This shift could have been the result of the heavy consequences that both Porphyro and Madeline have to face because of their actions. Although Madeline and Porphyro are together, this darker tone seems to shed it in the light that their relationship is now tainted and against all that is good in the world. Now that the setting, imagery, and descriptive detail have been taken into account, the decisions and actions of the characters can be examined. Although she is a minor character, Angela: one of Madeline maids catches Porphyro sneaking around the castle in the middle of the night and starts the beginning of the consequences of the night. By exclaiming as soon as she catches him, I will not harm her, from all saints I swear and saying that he will throw himself to death at the hands of the guardsmen if he does not see her, Porphyro manages to convince Angela that he truly does love Madeline (Keats 1834). Against her judgment and fueled by her knowledge that Madeline secret love Porphyro back she reluctantly lead him to Madeline rooms and hides him in the closet knowing that Porphyro only wants to see Madeline and not sleep with her (Keats 1834 1835). His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living, it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry before he went to work with the church. In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics. Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener. Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. To keep it simple, let s check out the main thing you should know about a boat: Buoyancy. Buoyancy, by definition, is the upward force exerted by a liquid on any immersed object. If the force of the liquid on the object is greater than that of the object on the liquid then the object will float. In other words buoyancy is dependent upon the density of the liquid and the volume of the object submerged. It is a massive bird that flies with the greatest of ease. Lets take a look at the casually oversimplified physics behind the flight of a bird. Basically, birds wings are not flat but are shaped like an aerofoil. Air passes over or under the wing as the bird moves forward, or as the wind blows. The air that moves over the top of the wing has further to travel to get across the wing, thus it speeds up. This causes the pressure to drop because the same amount of air is exerting its pressure over a greater area. Therefore, any given point experiences less pressure. This effectively sucks the wing up. Meanwhile the air going below the wing experiences the opposite effect. It slows down, generates more pressure and effectively pushes the wing up. Hence a bird with air moving over its wings is pulled up from above and pushed up from below. Marine Mammals Communication: Whales are amazing mammals on many levels. Excessive rain or warmer than expected winters, increase the risk for a lot of companies, mainly in the solar and energy sector, and ultimately affects their revenues. As the wind and solar industry continues to grow, investors are injecting more capital in order to organize this industry by way of decreasing the risks inherent to it. Accordingly, and as more money is invested in these markets, more investors and stakeholders are looking for better risk management techniques that could protect their assets and ensure a steady flow in revenue. Derivatives are financial instruments used to transfer the risk associated with the variation in the underlying asset to a third party inclined at accepting that risk, but in exchange for a premium ; thus, the payoff from derivatives depends on the value of this underlying asset. Consequently, the protection or insurance paid from a certain derivative depends on the level of an index, as opposed to traditional insurance that depends on real losses. While an unjust act or occurrence is implied as Injustice. These two terms are examples of the issues that many African Americans face daily in America. Freedom and Injustice could be combined to define the term of Slavery. Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the production of such lucrative crops as tobacco. It was practiced throughout the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries, and African American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. The Democrats from the Northern states were against slavery or at least the expansion of slavery in the new territories while the Democrats from the Southern states wanted to preserve slavery in their states and were for extending it in the new territories. On April 23, 1860, the Democrats met in Charleston, South Carolina with the goals of finalizing their platform and nominating a presidential candidate. In the North the Democratic candidate was the moderate Stephen Douglas. Voters in the South chose John Breckenridge, a defender of Southern rights . The Southern Democrats hated Douglas, although he was not completely opposed to slavery in the West, he wanted to limit the institution s use in the territories, by initiating popular sovereignty. A key play by Lincoln in the Lincoln Douglas Debates in 1858 helped the Southerners realize this. Because the Democrats were split between different candidates and the Republican Party was united behind Abraham Lincoln, they won more electoral votes. Therefore, Lincoln became president. • 48. Houses In Pompeii The exterior of the house is fairly plain. The main entrance (pictured top right) opens off the west side of the Vico Dei Vettii just north of its junction with the Vicolo di Mercurio. Save for this entrance and a side door near the south east corner the exterior walls were unbroken except for small, square windows some of which were in low second storey rooms (an artist s reconstruction of what the house may have looked like is pictured right). Like several other notable houses in Pompeii, the house was a casualty of bombing during the second World War. In late September 1943 allied bombs caused considerable damage to the property, particularly along the north side of the peristyle. The structural damage was repaired but some fourth style ... • 50. Contraceptives And Birth Control Contraceptives or birth control are methods that prevent unplanned pregnancies but are also used promote family planning, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and treat cosmetic and gynecological conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent, about 45% of all pregnancies in 2011 were unplanned in the United States, which was a 51% decline since 2008.1 Of those about 50% resulted without birth control use and the other half reported using a method of birth control. In addition, of the 45% of unplanned pregnancies, higher rates are seen in adolescents and ethnic minorities, which leads to an increase risk for poor maternal and infant outcomes and an increase in abortions across the globe.2 According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 16 million births to mothers aged 15 19 years old were reported in 2008.3 This represented 11% of births worldwide and of these births 95% were in developing countries.3 The 2014 World Health Statistics reported that the average global birth rate for 15 19 year old girls is 4.9%, where the rates are the highest in sub Saharan Africa.4 Although there is no universal trend toward early initiation of sexual activity, the higher rate of pregnancies seen in teens, adolescents, and ethnic minorities can be related to cultural influences, gender and social norms, lack of sexual and primary education, improper use of contraceptives, and/or the restricted access of reproductive health care services.3 In ... • 51. The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever changing. The emergence of new species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats, negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species (Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked: recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways, usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017). Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the Southern Black Forest revealed that red deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active ...
