The Development And Development Of The Greek And Greek Empire
The Roman Republic and Empire was one of the largest civilisations in the world. A significant
question posed is how and why did the Roman Republic and Empire develop in the ways they
did and interact with the Persian and Greek/Hellenic Empires? At the height of the Roman
Empire it spanned across western Europe, and encompassed the entire Mediterranean. Lasting
and developing through thousands of years, the Romans encountered and interacted with the
Persian and Greek/Hellenic Empires. This included trading, co existing, and going to war with
one another. Although, originally the Roman Republic and Empire was first founded by the
Etruscan people. Established in 753 BCE by a Etruscan colony on the River Tiber in Italy, the
city was controlled by Etruscan Kings until 509 BCE. Whence the people rose up against the
monarchy to establish the Roman Republic, and fought for control of central Italy for the next
30 years. (Dr David Lundberg, 2017, pp.6 7) Thus the Roman Republic became a contending
force in Western Europe, and across the Mediterranean for the next 450 years. (J.M.Roberts Odd
Arne Westad, 2013, p.218) Instead of a king, two consuls and an assembly of elected magistrates
were installed to rule the Roman Republic. Before a new set of consuls, and new magistrates were
elected by the citizens each year. Additionally, legislative and consultative bodies were elected as
Tribunes of the people, who managed the affairs of the government and managed conflicts that arose

Case Study Issi
DISC 321 Submitted to: Kamran Ali Chatha Submitted by: Group 6 17110271 17110321
17110129 17110326 This case study sheds light on the value of information as Integrating Siting
Systems INC (ISSI) has to make a decision on whether to conduct a test or go with a regular
decisionmaking process in deciding whether to produce a standard or robust system. Our aim is
to decide whether we should install the standard system, the robust system or to carry out a test
that would help us make a better decision. Assumptions: 1. Cost of reputation lost in case of Faulty
system is $ 100,000. 2. We have assumed that there are only two possible outcomes if the test is
imperfect i.e. whatever the system turns out to be (bad or good)... Show more content on

However in this case the assumption that it would cost them $100,000 in monetary terms seems
fairly adequate. However from a marketing viewpoint, reputation is worth a lot. If you put it in
monetary terms then if I expect that the less of reputation will cost be $1,100,000 or more, then
I will change my decision to install a robust system because then the EMV of installing a
standard system would be equal to or lower than that of the robust system. What is this test
worth to you? What would you pay for a perfect information? The test provides us with expected
value of information which helps us to evaluate our decision with cases where the information is
not clear. Furthermore, the uncertainty regarding the decision, despite coming at the cost of
$50,000, is resolved before a particular choice of selecting the standard or robust choice is
made. However, once the decision is made, the market will take its course of action. It is simply
the fact that ISSI has a fair idea of the possible outcome. If ISSI does not carry out the test, it will
only have the option to either install the standard system or the robust system. The dilemma in
this decision is that either ISSI will install the standard system and earn a profit of $300,000 which
has a probability of 90% or a loss of $200,000 if the system does not work which has a probability
of 10%. On the other hand if the robust system is installed ISSI will

Trying to catch my breath, I see that Paul is right beside me and Samuel is trailing behind us,
but we see a dark, shadowy creature hiding in the dark. I take a step towards the creature. I take
my flashlight out and I see a witch that is controlling my shadow . She just turned my shadow
into a lion, my greatest fear, I keep running until I see that the witch is no longer chasing me. I
look back and Paul and Samuel aren t there, but I blink and I wake up. It turns out I m just
dreaming. I go outside I see Paul and Samuel saying Good morning Sleepyhead . They said they

Imagination In The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman which presents the story of a
woman s cope with a mental disorder. The narrator s declining mental health is reflected through
the characteristics of the wallpaper that she projects on it. The protagonist goes with her
husband to stay in a colonial mansion for the summer. Her husband john believes that the house
supposed to be a place where she can recover from postpartum depression. The story is told from
a first person perspective, as the narrator writes within her journal, while she is absolutely
forbidden to write or work (Gilman 1). Her husband John, attempts to cure his wife with the help
of the rest cure, which was a popular way of treating mental disorders in the nineteen century, and
therefore requests his wife to rest, and to stop writing. Staying in a room which is covered with an
old and stale yellow wallpaper, the narrator begins to develop obsession toward the wallpaper.
Naming it the paper, the narrator s fascination with it is the first clue of her degenerating sanity

The narrator attempts to release the alleged woman from the wallpaper, can be understood as the
narrator s attempt to release herself and express her imagination. We see that the narrator is an
imaginative, highly expressive woman. She remembers her peculiar imagination as a child. Yet as
part of her cure, her husband forbids her to exercise her imagination in any way. Both her reason
and her emotions boil, and she turns her imagination onto the seemingly neutral object the
wallpaper in an attempt to ignore her growing frustration. Her negative feelings color her
description of her surroundings, making them seem uncanny and sinister, and she eventually

Some Close Encounters of a Mental Kind by Stephen Jay Gould
I spy with my little eye something blue, or is it purple, maybe green? I Spy was one of my
favorite games when I was a little girl. Almost everyone as a child that I know played this game,
and if you did, and your experience was anything like mine, you got stuck on an object or two a
couple of times. If you didn t play, eye spy was a game where someone said a color of something
they saw and you would have to guess what object it was or vice versa. Was it our own vision at
fault or that of our friends that we couldn t find what we were searching for? Doesn t matter
since someone saw something they didn t actually see. Stephen Jay Gould, a teacher of several
subjects at Harvard University, discusses how our brain can play tricks on us in his essay titled
Some Close Encounters of a Mental Kind. Although our minds are powerful things, what we
see, or remember seeing, can be wrong. Perfect is definitely an adjective my mom would use to
describe herself. Her eyesight, on the other hand, is far from satisfactory. When I say that, I don t
mean she is in need for glasses, she doesn t see what is actually happening but rather what she
wants to see. Every year my family participates in this huge celebration known as the Basque
Picnic. My dad and brother are in charge of one of the food items while my grandmother and mom
deal with serving. I, on the other hand, am a member of the traditional Basque dancing group that
performs at the festival. One year,

Rocky Statue Of Philadelphia Analysis
The Face of Philadelphia; an Analysis on the Effects of the Rocky Statue The Rocky statue in
Philadelphia, PA serves as an iconic symbol that has shaped the image of Philadelphia, while
demonstrating that location influences the way people see art. The statue stands tall next to the
Rocky Stairs, and plants into the minds of the people ideas of inspiration, self determination, and
pride in accomplishment, which all help raise Philadelphiaup as a proud and progressing city. It s
presence at the art museum also demonstrates the effects of location on a piece of art. Location
works like a manipulation in that it influences the way people see the artwork. Would People look

The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the tale of an
underdog. This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it inspires people
everywhere. An interview was conducted where boxers were asked to talk about Rocky s
impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus, a boxer in Philadelphia says The impact it has had on
fighters, and what they think they can do, and endure, and the way they go about training and
style is certainly still felt today. A world championship is a possibility, based from being a
relative unknown . (Dinero 1) The statue gives Philadelphia something monumental to stand on
and something to represent all the hardship the city has been through. The Rocky character also
embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats at the same restaurants, runs
through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This gives the statue a personal
connection to the people of the city, one they can claim as their own. The places and stores seen
in the movie are very popular tourist attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos Bros,
a popular site from the movie says It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all
Philadelphians have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of
overwhelming odds (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of diversity and just
as the city and its people have been through hard times, so has Rocky. The statue also appeals to
people worldwide not only because of its iconic underdog story, but because of its ability to
appeal on a personal level. Whenever failure is upon someone, Rocky inspires them to come back
strong because if you work hard you can achieve your goals. Justin Sargus says The thing about the
Rocky movies is that they make it seem like you can take an enormous amount

It Was All Started With A Boy
...it was all started by a mouse (Smith 41). But it actually all started with a boy. On December
5th, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. Father, Elias Disney, and mother, Flora Call Disney, had a son that
they named, Walter Elias Disney. He was one of five children, three boys; Herbert, Raymond, and
Roy, and one girl, Ruth. After the birth of Walt, the family moved to Marceline, Missouri where
they had a farm. Walt first got his inspirations of drawing through the environment around him.
Being wrapped around animals and the nature aspects on a farm, it gave Walt at the early age of

After returning from his service in France, Walt pursued a career in commercial art instead of
getting a high school diploma, leading to his experiments in animation. He first worked for
Pesman Rubin Commercial Art Studio where he was designing letterhead and advertisements.
After getting laid off, he found another job at the Kansas City Film Ad Company, where he was
educated about animation, producing advertisements prior the movies would begin. He later
departed the Film Ad Company in May 1922 with confidence in starting Laugh O Gram Films,
where he created Alice s Wonderland. Later, making a series of these films, known, as the Alice
Comedies. Walt s company last for one year and a half and went bankrupt in July 1923. Unlike
most people, Walt Disneydidn t give up. Instead, he left Kansas City and headed to Hollywood.
At this point, Walt was completely broke. All he had was a loan of $500 from his uncle and his
faithful brother, Roy, by his side. With faith, Walt and Roy started the Disney Brothers Studio.
They were able to attain a distributor of New York to release the Alice Comedies, which became
a high success with popularity. Soon after, it led to the growth in Disney s staff members along
with a brand new studio. In 1927, the New York distributor, Charles Mintz, who had hired all of
Disney s animators, refused a contract to have Walt as his worker and Universal Studios owning

The Issues Surrounding The Idea Of Immunization Essay
In this assignment I intend to explore the issues surrounding the idea of immunization. The purpose
of immunization is to prevent people from acquiring infectious diseases and to protect them against
the associated short and longer term complications (Cory, 2012). Vaccines produce a specific
immune response to build resistance against infectious diseases (Government of South Australia,
2012). There are two main perspectives surrounding this issue, for and against receiving injections.
Those who support immunizationbelieve the riskis minimal because the benefits exceed the
negative effects that may occur from the injections. However, other people feel there is huge risk
involved because the injections will not increase immunity levels and the possibilities of negative
reactions are too great of risk. This conflict of perceptions is related to the way people perceive
cognitive limitations, the psychometric paradigm and the axiomatic paradigm; these include factors
such as dread, control and voluntariness. A great influence on these perceptions is health
professionals communication strategies, who target social media, advertisements and reports.
The concept of risk means different things to different people. In order to make decisions wisely,
individuals need to understand the risks and the benefits associated with alternative courses of
action. (Baruch Fischhoff, 1993). Many health risks can arise from an individual s subjective
judgment, as people interpret their

Character traits in books are a very essential element and without them, books would not be
books. They provide people with an example that they may follow in order to live a good life.
Some books serve as life lessons to show people how some characteristics can bring downfall to
some people if they do not follow the rules. Throughout Last Days of Summer, by Steve Kluger,
the characters possess many characteristics that can help us in our everyday life, most importantly,
patience. Charlie learns how to develop patience throughout the book. In the beginning, he
despises Joey for the nonstop letters he keeps sending him. As time goes on the two develop a
very good and strong relationship all because Charlie showed patience to Joey.

Ammonium Nitrate Lab Report
Organic sources of nitrogen have shown to assist the development of many different plants, such as
spore germination. An experiment was conducted to see if ammonium nitrate would indeed help
with spore germination pertaining to the C Fern, Ceratopteris richardii. The experiment consisted
of two different dishes, each containing a different culture one with ammonium nitrate and the
other without. It was hypothesized that the control group, the petri dish without the ammonium
nitrate, will have a higher rate of germinated spores compared to the experimental group, the petri
dish with ammonium nitrate. The results revealed that although in each group the control had
more geminated spores that there was no significant difference or variance. So the hypothesis
was correct in terms of which would have more geminated spores. All in all, the experimental
design had several openings for error so if the experiment were to be repeated a more controlled
environment should be used. Vascular plants have been around for millions of years and have
revolutionized the world s ecology ever since their first appearance. A prime example of a vascular
plantwould be ferns, which was one of the first known vascular plants on earth. Two characteristics

The specific fern that will be used is the C Fern, Ceratopteris richardii, because they have the ability
to develop gametophytes rapidly over a short period of time (C Fern?, 2014). Therefore, my

rate of germinated spores compared to the experimental group, the petri dish with inorganic nitrogen

b.Transition to Second Main Point: Now that you are financially and emotionally prepared, it s time
to evaluate the housing market. Is it a buyers or a sellers market. What are interest rates doing?
What mortgage products are available to you now, and could those options change?
B.Main Point # 2: It is very important to be aware of the housing market conditions, what is going
on in the market in regards to interest rates and what mortgage products are available to you. All of
these factors are significant in deciding your time frame for purchasing.
a.Support: This is not data that you will have to go out and collect. They are merely questions you
should ask to determine the urgency of your purchase. Any qualified professional should be able to
answer these questions for you and educate you on how they affect you.
First question, what type of real estate market are we in? Is it a buyers or a sellers market. This
may very well determine if now is the right time for you to buy. Take 2004 as an example. At that
point in time it was a very strong sellers market, which meant that sellers had more control over the
transaction and could demand more from prospective buyers. Almost every seller was receiving
multiple if not 10 or more contracts on their property. This turned every purchase into a bidding war
between potential buyers,

In the major cities pickpocketing, taxi scams, robbery and drugs have been a huge issue that
affects the quality of life. It is because of all the poor people who do not have anything, so they

because of all the carnivals, parades and beaches which have thousands of people which are very
crowded. They have made robbery, gang violence, money laundry and a variety of scams the
way of life in Brazil. President Michel Temer who was elected in August 2016, believes that one
way to lower the crime rate is to first eradicate or decrease the favelas within Brazil. He has
created various programs and improving the structures of the buildings themselves. Brazil is a
federal presidential constitutional which is constructed off a representative democracy. It is

Benefits of Animal Experimentation
Benefits of Animal Experimentation Animal Experimentation has been used for thousands of
years from early Greeks to modern day physicians. Animal Experimentation is not only
beneficial in gaining knowledge on diseases, but can also help to discover cures. Animal testing
is not a very new idea, and has been performed for a large portion of history. Some of the earliest
experiments can be traced back to early Greek physicians and scientist such as Aristotle and
Erasistratus who did tests on living animal subjects to find the differences between sensory nerves,
tendons, and motor nerves. All of these early procedures were performed without any type of pain
reliever or sedative used. In today s times, there are plenty of different anesthetics to be used to help
make these procedures easier for both an animal and the scientist. Later on, another Greek physician
named Galen used animal testingto advance multiple fields in medicine such as pathology, anatomy,
physiology, and pharmacology. In twelfth century Spain, Arab physician Ibn Zuhr used animal
testing as a new way for testing surgical procedures on animals before they were used on humans.
These tests and experiments went without question for many centuries, until recently when these
practices came under question by many animals rights groups. Animal testing is also used to test
new pharmaceutical drugs before they are released to the public. If these tests aren t done
catastrophe may ensue. In 1937 a new drug was created

Hip Hop And Rap Hop
The genre that I am going to select is Hip Hop/Rap. The 5 top ten from the 80s are The Message
by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Self Destruction by KRS One and the Stop the
Violence Movement, Push It by Salt N Pepa, I m Bad by LL Cool J, Fight The Power by Public
Enemy, Straight Out Of Compton by NWA. The 5 top ten from 2015 are Know Yourself by
Drake, Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, Alright by Kendrick Lamar, Blessings by Big Sean Featuring
Drake, and Feeling Myself by Nicki Minaj featuring BeyoncГ©. In my opinion, there is a very
distinct difference between Hip Hop and Rap and it is definitely heard in the music throughout the
decades. Hip Hop is a sub culture that speaks out against social issues and injustice against the
African American population. Rap music, on the other hand, is popular pop culture, consumer
commercialism, and mainstream media. Pop culture has a strong influence on the social
construction of gender because images from pop culture convey powerful messages about gender
stereotyped, especially regarding women s appearance. The message of love, sex, and
relationships can be heard in both Hip Hop and Rap and throughout the decades as well. Hip Hop
artist such as Grandmaster Flash, KRS One, and Public Enemy lyrics spoke a strong social message
that told the truth about living in poverty and had a cultural impact and unification of people from
different societies. Family is all inclusive during this decade. In my opinion, family includes

The day after my twelfth birthday, the money had almost completely burned a hole in my pocket.

me with a confused, horrified look on her face. I kept on moving.
We got to town and I bought the steam engine I had been wanting. I did not really care, just tossed
it in my pocket like a gum wrapper. We went by Elmore s for Scout s baton that she had been
longing for. I could not think of anything. I was not mentally there. I don t think any part of me was

As we were passing Mrs. Dubose s empty porch and gate, I lost it. With as much force as I could I

Essay Lost Colony of Roanoke
For centuries, the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island has been a controversial issue. Many theories
exist that explain the disappearance of the colony. Some theories suggest that the colonists left the
island to live with friendly neighboring Indians. Others suggest that a hurricane wiped out the
colony or that a savage Indian tribe massacred them. The possibility of disease destroying them is
also a debated topic. However, evidence indicates that the men and women left behind on Roanoke
Islanddid not die because of massacre, disease, or starvation but went to live with the Croatoan
Indians. In 1587 a group of men, women, and children led by Sir John White set sail for America

Furthermore, physical proof indicates that after John White left the colony to return to England, the
colonists intermarried with the Indians. According to David Beers Quinn, author of Set Fair for
Roanoke, the colonists and the Indians did intermarry (350). The colonists intermarrying with the
Indians would cause some of the offspring to have genetic traits unusual for Indians, such as blue
eyes or light colored hair. In his article about the lost colony, Scott Dawson writes that an explorer
named John Lawson discovered blue eyed Indians dressed in English apparel; Dawson also says
that the Indians claimed to have White descendants (6). Therefore, by making Manteo lord of
Roanoke and intermarrying with the Indians, the colonists proved their strong relationship with the
Croatoans.
Upon his return, John White met with no indications of the deaths of the colonists. Linda Kramer
states that John White and the colonists agreed that in the event of leaving Roanoke, the colonists
in a noticeable location would engrave the name of the place to which they were departing and
that an engraving of a Maltese cross above the name of the location would signal leaving because
of danger (3). When White returned to the colony after three years of being absent, he discovered
one of the signals the colonists promised to engrave if they left. The Article Lost: An American

Spiritual Journey Reflection Paper
I have been into the practicum for two months now. It is an appropriate time for me to reflect on
my learning and practice in spiritual direction in the past few weeks in the areas of the journey
of faith, emotion in spiritual direction, the purgative way, triads, meeting with directees in the
sessions and supervision. I appreciate working on the exercise in one of the classes on recalling
one of my religious spiritual experience prior to the end of high school and one of my religious
of spiritual experience since then. My journey and my story belong uniquely to me and it
provides the starting place from which to understand further the Critical Journey. Therefore the
identification of the stages of my journey of faith assists me to discover where I may be along
the way and recognize where I have been. This knowledge of the different stages of the journey of
faith allows me to appreciate where others are on their journey of faith in similar or different
stages. I notice that one of my directees struggles with noticing the presence of Godin his life. In
one of the sessions I invited him to recall one incident of his previous journey where he felt there
was the presence of God. This helped him to reflect on his past experience and in turn, it
provided encouragement for him to move forward. He probably is still at stage two in the journey
of faith where he needs to find the meaning of belonging. There are a lot of things to learn from
Fischer s guiding principles for working with emotionin spiritual direction. These principles aid
me to understand directee s emotion and language and thy allow me listen to the directee deeply.
I know one of her guiding principles bringing hidden and unacknowledged emotions to awareness
always leads to breakthrough on the spiritual journey. Hence in one of my sessions I used that
principle to help me to listen to the directee s issue by providing a safe space to allow the directee
to feel secure to explore his or her own emotions without the feelingof being judged by the director.
During that session, the directee seemed to feel relief and he was at the point of seeing an
appropriate path to move forward with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The

La Siest A Known Component Of The Spanish Culture
La Siesta is a commonly known component of the Spanish culture. In seeking to strike a balance
between work and pleasure, for long Spaniards have practiced the traditional siesta. Professionals
along with students often return to their respective homes around noon for a couple of hours to rest
and enjoy familytime coupled with a heavy lunch. Most businesses will always shut down for a few
hours during this time. Conversely, the 21st century Spanish generation has slowly evaded this
cultural practice. Much as the big cities are constantly busy moving at faster paces similar to most
Western countries, smaller towns and villages nonetheless continue to take siestas as part of their
daily routine (Thyberg).
Attending Tapas: Tapa holds as one of the most famous Spanish traditions and a major tourist
attraction for centuries. However, Tapa has its roots from ancient Spain. Interestingly, Tapa is not
necessarily a specific food but a way of eating certain foods. They are always small portions of
food and can be any type of food packaged uniquely. Spanish terminology for Tapa is tapear and
going for Tapa hardly implies ordering several dishes in one particular restaurant, but bar hopping
from one restaurant to another eating a different Tapa for each round in every spot.
Spanish Flamenco: It s probably the most common and famous traditions in Spain but often
misunderstood by outsiders. To begin with, Flamenco is not actually a dancing style, although it

Essay On The Underground Railroad In North Carolina
The Underground Railroad in North Carolina
The Underground Railroad was perhaps the most active and dramatic protest action against
slavery in United States history and as we look at the Underground Railroad in North Carolina we
will focus on the Quakers, Levi Coffin s early years, and the accounts of escaped slaves from North
Carolina. The unique blend of southern slave holder and northern abolitionist influences in the
formation of North Carolina served to make the state an important link in the efforts to end slavery
inside and outside of North Carolina borders.
Although not underground nor a railroad, this informal system became a loosely constructed
network of escape routes that originated in the South, intertwined ... Show more content on

Levi Coffin was born on October 28, 1798 on a farm in New Garden, North Carolina, the only son
of seven children born to Quaker parents, Levi and Prudence (Williams) Coffin.
Because his father needed him to work on the farm, young Levi received the bulk of his
education at home. His home schooling proved to be a good education. As a young boy growing
up in North Carolina in the early 1800 s, Levi saw firsthand the reality of slavery. One day while
he was out with his father helping to chop wood by the roadside, a group of slaves, handcuffed
and chained together, passed by on their way to be sold in Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana.
When Levi s father asked them why they were chained, one of the men sadly replied: They have
taken us away from our wives and children, and they chain us lest we should make our escape
and go back to them. 1 After the group of slaves had gone, young Levi wondered to himself how
he would feel if his father were taken away from him.
The incident by the side of a Guilford County road marked the first stirring of Levi Coffin s
sympathy for the oppressed. Together with a strong hatred of oppression and injustice in any form,
Coffin later said these were the motives that influenced my

Your Inner Fish Reflection Essay While I was reading Your Inner Fish, I went through a journey
that changed my viewpoint on the topic of evolution. Before reading this book, I did not believe
in evolution. I thought that is was just another thing that I was being taught to believe and that it
didn t actually have any solid evidence behind it. I figured that there could never be evidence
solid enough to convince me that we were related to fish in any way, shape, or form. Your Inner
Fish changed my opinion by showing me that there is actual fact to back up the theory. In chapter
5, it explains about the Sonic Hedgehog gene, and how it is in every living creature including
humans, and how it forms our digits, and how it is in skates as well.

Design Of An Integrated Circuit
CHAPTER 1
1.INTRODUCTION
1.1Overview
Nowadays it is impossible to imagine any device where microelectronics is not present, from
personal computers through home appliances, modern society relies on the performance of
integrated circuits. It is so, that microelectronics advent has opened doors to new horizons where
integrated circuits have played an important role from the very beginning of their creation since the
late 1950s, when Jack St. Clair Kilby, a Texas Instruments Engineer, decided to change the future,
conceiving the first integrated circuit, where the components, passive as well as active, were
placed over a piece of semi conductive material (Germanium piece) that was half the size of a
paper clip. The success of this element (called chip due to its small size) containing a few
transistors, resistors, and capacitors, led to the Physics Nobel Prize for its inventor in 2000.
The design of an integrated circuit involves a development plan, where its functional characteristics
and performance will define the elaboration of the logic circuit diagram. Once the diagram is
finished, a series of simulations are executed to test the operation of the designed circuit; if no
issues are encountered, a massive production plan is implemented.
This manufacturing process has allowed the miniaturization of most of the devices used daily,
translating to lower production costs. The typical manufacturing process involves the
interconnection of the integrated circuit chips to the

The Australia Legal System
The Australian Legal System
Introduction
All countries are a reflection of their histories and this is very much the case with governmental
structures and the associated legal system. The Australian legal system is based on a fundamental
belief in the rule of law, justice and the independence of the judiciary. All people Australians and
non Australians alike are treated equally before the law and safeguards exist to ensure that people
are not treated arbitrarily or unfairly by governments or officials.
Principles such as procedural fairness, judicial precedent and the separation of powers are
fundamental to Australia s legal system.
The common law system, as developed in the United Kingdom, forms the basis of Australian ...

Each state and territory court system operates independently. All states have supreme courts and
some also have courts of criminal appeal, which are the highest appellate courts at the state level.
Courts known as district or county courts hear the more serious cases, with a judge presiding over
the court to interpret and determine the law. For more serious charges it is usual for a jury
(usually of 12 people) to determine the guilt or innocence of defendants. Serious offences such as
murder, rape and armed robbery are usually tried in a higher court.
Lesser offences are dealt with in lower courts, known as local or magistrates courts (or courts of
petty sessions), where magistrates determine the guilt or innocence of defendants.
In all cases, defendants are considered to be innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable
doubt. There is no death penalty in Australia.
Legal aid and representation
Australian governments recognize that access to legal representation is an important element in
ensuring justice for all. They provide some legal aid for people assessed as being least able to
afford to cover the costs of a court appearance.
The federal Attorney General s Department is responsible for administering funding for the

interests and preferences as an economic major student. Basically, the research question is that
in given three stocks, which stock is worth to purchase as an investment. There are three
conditions apply to comparison processes: measures of central tendency, growth/loss extent
analysis and trend test. The intended stock needs to filter through the first two conditions and
pass the trend test. First, GOOGL shows a slight comparative advantage in measures of central
tendency. The annual averages of the growth rates for each stocks are all negative, while
GOOGL holds the lowest record of 0.0507%. As for the medians of those, GOOGL indicates a
positive percentage of growth at the rate of 0.0127%; in contrast, the other two stocks keep
negative percentages. Thus, GOOGL is more likely to result in a positive growth rate than the
other two. Second, GOOGL illustrates a better future through growth/loss extent analysis. The v

For more than one hundred years, films have been made that have stereotyped the American male.
These films are known as romance films. They are love stories that appeal to passion, and emotional
involvement of the characters, usually a male and female, and the adventure that their love takes
through their relationship. The first romance filmwas directed by Thomas Edison and was only
twenty seconds long. According to www.filmsite.org The film The May Irwin Kiss was released

a persuasive, well dressed man which makes Palmer irresistible to women. Jacob Palmer sees
Cal Weaver struggling to talk to these women because he is awkward and dressed terribly
according to Palmer. He takes Weaver under his wing and teaches Cal how to be the man that
every woman wants. Weaver eventually perfects these techniques and is able to seduce almost
every woman he comes into contact with. This masculinity that Weaver obtains is due to Palmer
teaching him how to be a womanizer. This applies to Germaine Greer s opinion on masculinity
because she believes that masculine men are not born, but they are made. She supports this claim
by saying that masculine features are formed with the help of the environment that surrounds a
male, rather than before birth. This explains why Cal Weaver becomes a womanizer after being
exposed to Jacob Palmer and his company. The two men in this film are not the only men who are
portrayed similar to this and is only one example of womanizers in romance

The Writing A Great Swoosh Of Energy
Students will write numerous essays throughout their high school years, and most teachers adapt
some form of in class editing, or peer editing. Though the problem with this is that poor editors do
not just have an effect on their own writing and their own essay, but they affect others, as well.
Students do not put as much time or effort into revising as they are required to do. The rough draft
is meant to be byzantine, with the understanding that a thorough editor will comb through every
sentence and completely tear it apart. In a great swoosh of energy, [the writer] plunges into the
writing, putting down everything that occurs to him in the first of what may turn out to be 9 or 10
drafts (Epstein para. 10). Of course, it often ends up being a repetitive and extensive process;
however, if it seems boring, then the editingis not being executed correctly. Though often perceived
as tedious, editing an essay is indubitably the most enjoyable part of the writing process.
Overview
Editing an essay is fairly simple. An editor s job is to mark up the essay, piece by piece, and
ameliorate it. As a work in progress , the writing goes through stages, and the editorial stage will
help trim and sharpen the final piece (Van Patten para. 1). The first draft is expected to be messy
and long, for it is just the writer transferring ideas from his/her mind onto the paper; proofreading
and revising it will completely transform the jumble of words into a presentable work.

blocks that bind protein together. According to Dr. Zachwieja there are specific sequences of

Dr. Zachwieja explains four studies have been published that are worthy because they were peer

where the other two has not. Zachwieja states there is no benefit for consuming carbs and
protein during exercise. Dr. Gibala agrees with Zachwieja, there is little evidence supporting 4
to 1 carbohydrate to protein is beneficial. However, Gibala believes adding protein to an athlete s
diet can add energy to perform longer. According to Dr. Rosenbloom, there are carbohydrate
needs and protein needs and fluids, and we have to make sure we meet those necessities around
the training schedule (cite). He also, states protein is not a good source of fuel for the body.
Rosenbloom explains, the primary source of energy comes from the consumption of carbohydrates,
however protein and hydration is necessary for recovery and energy. I agree with Rosenbloom, our
body requires a combination of carbohydrates, proteins and fluids to meet the demands of our
training schedule. Also, I believe consuming protein during exercise might benefit us by providing
additional energy, especially on high intensity and volume workouts, long distance running and
cycling. However, predominately, carbohydrate is king when it comes to supplying energy for the
body, then fat, and the third choice is amino acids from protein. The amount

The Use Of Oxymorons In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
It s often said that heartbreak teaches a lesson that nobody want to hear but will eventually have
to learn. It s a lesson that provides a certain wisdom and maturity that can only be achieved after
heartbreak takes its course, without it finding love is like finding the end of a maze in pitch dark.
In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, this claim is proved throughout act 1, scene 1 through
the results of Romeo s premature heartbreak with Rosaline. Shakespeare uses oxymorons to reveal
Romeo as a character that is melodramatic along with being ill experienced when it comes to love.
Through oxymorons, Shakespeare is able to build Romeo s façade as a character with a boy like
comprehension of love. In Act 1, Scene 1, after a fight between the Capulets and the Montagues
breaks out, Romeo who was not involved in the fight tries to figure out why the fights continue to
occur between the families. Romeo then comes to the conclusion that of all the fights that ... Show

Summary Of Heyoka Ceremony From Black Elk Speaks
Heyoka Ceremony from Black Elk Speaks, by Nicholas Black Elk is a story dedicated to the
Indian nation and the Hayoki a religious people intrinsically connected to nature through their
visions of thunderous creatures who were once part of this nation. Traditionally, Hayoki
participates in religious ceremonies where this particular ceremony involved the sacrificing of a
dog, a seemingly foolish act done with great reverence to the thunder beings of the west, that not
only demonstrates their faith, beliefs, and traditions but also keeps them connected to the spiritual
realm. It s important to note that as inhumane as it may seem to Western cultures, this sacrifice was
done in the most respectful way possible, as Lakota promotes the respect of mother earth and
everything in it. Even though the sacrificial killing of a domestic animal like a dog can be seen as
controversial, in order to understand the Heyoka Ceremonies, we must first understand its origins....

Analysis Of The Story The Kim Family
Moral of the story The Kim s family story about their Thanksgiving trip during winter weather
was truly tragic. They made a decision to take a road trip under harsh weather conditions with
limited amount of food and gas. They missed their exit, and decided to take an unknown,
dangerous route where they got stuck for nine days. In my opinion, the moral of the story is to
plan and prepare for a road trip especially under inclement weather. It s essential to carry an
emergency kit, extra food, water, and clothing in case one gets stuck due to poor road conditions.
Prior to starting a road trip, it s important to know about the weather conditions and travel
advisories on the area. Family members should know the route of the planned trip. The vehicle
must have a full tank of gas, and be in good mechanical condition to withstand a road trip under
harsh weather. Most importantly, we should pay attention to warning signs such as fatigue, fuel
levels and bad road conditions to stop, and reconvene the trip when it s safe to travel to our final
destination.
Major negative issues that hindered their survival The Kim s family survival was impacted by
many adverse actions. First, James drove the entire trip. He was probably tired which most likely
increased his driving risk on winter weather. He kept driving at night and missed the exit. They
didn t turn around because they wanted to get to their hotel. Instead, they took a short cut, Bear
Camp road. This path is known to be dangerous,

Black Writers of the 20th Century Essay
Literature has played an important role in society throughout history, the written word being a
powerful tool in communicating ideas. This became even more important during the 20th century,
when many people were trying to persuade others or share their emotions and histories. The black
movements in the United States made use of this tool, many authors coming out and becoming part
of the fabric of society. Three authors in particular, Ralph Ellison, Langston Hughes, and Richard
Wright became some of the most influential and important writers of the 20th century, owing to
their own history and life experiences to give life and meaning to their works. Ralph Ellison is one
of the more influential writers of the early 20th century in North... Show more content on

Not having a stable life, he moved around a lot as a child, taking many different jobs in an effort
to help his family make ends meet. By the time he was 13, he was getting interested in literature
and began writing his own stories. His first story appeared in a local magazine within a year,
giving Wright his first publication as an author and opening him up to the world of writing in the
early 20th century. The most well known of the three black authors, Langston Hughes is
mentioned as an influence on many other authors, including Ralph Ellison and Richard Wright,
among others. Born in Joplin, Missouri on 1 February 1902, Hughes was unfortunate to see in life
to see so much separation and strife in his family. His parents were divorced when he was still very
young, causing him to live with his grandmother until he was 13, at which point he went on to
Lincoln, Illinois to live with his mother, and then eventually moved on to Cleveland, Ohio. By
1924, he relocated to Washington D.C. Where he became an important part of the Harlem
Renaissance. He began his college education at Columbia University, took a hiatus where he wrote
a book of poetry, then completed his remaining three years at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
Hughes would later go on to become a very well known author and poet. Though the three authors
were all from different backgrounds, they all had similar

The Negatives of Animal Testing
Many people may not realize that the majority of products in their own home have been tested on
animals; from lipstick and shampoo to dish soap and foot powder. Even the white ink on an M M
has been tested on animals. To some, this statement may be alarming and even disturbing to others
it may not mean much at all. Either way, the debate over animal testinghas gained much popularity
in recent decades.
Animal testing has been done since at least 500 BC; even Aristotle experimented on animals for
scientific reasoning. Around 200 AD, dissecting animals in public was actually used as a form of
entertainment, people would actually go and watch someone perform a vivisection on an animal.
Vivisection is when an organism is dissected while it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is cruel and inhumane to put animals through so much agony, they can feel pain and suffering
too, just like humans; they just cannot speak to stand up for themselves.
Recently, a monkey was photographed saving a puppy from a tsunami in Japan. The image just
proved how much the monkey cared and knew what was happening, and knew that he/she had to
save the puppy and get away. Animals are smarter than most people think they feel love, fear, and
pain. Many religious traditions say that people should care for animals, treat them with respect, and
try not to cause them harm or suffering (Ferdowsian).
Animal testing is also unreliable. Even though animal testing is responsible for many medical
breakthroughs, some of those breakthroughs could have been made without testing them on
animals. The drugs that pass animal testing and get put on the market are not always safe (Scott).
There was a drug called Vioxx that was proven to help mice and protect their heart, but when
humans started using the drug, it caused thousands of heart attacks, many resulting in death.
According to Dr. Furlong, 94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials . That is
an astonishingly high number. If the results are so inaccurate, then what is the purpose of even
testing on the animals? (Ferdowsian)
It can also be the other way around, some drugs/chemicals may work

consistent growth since it s inception in 2009. As the CIO of this company, it is my job to look
for opportunities to grow this company. An opportunity had come our way to be the sole supplier

that innocence does not last forever. J.D Salinger portrays this idea in the novel the Catcher in the

Henry s Speech Was a Call to Action. What Did He Want His Fellow Virginians To Do? What
Were His Justifications For The Proposed Action? How Did Henry Address The Concerns Of
Those Who Did Not Agree With Him?

Virginia, Patrick Henry stood and addressed his fellow delegates regarding the defense and arming

Through the use of the image of slavery, Henry managed to paint a clear picture of how the
situation was, therefore, making it easier for him to emphasize the need for America s
independence. Also, Henry uses a change in the volume of his voice in his video speech to
appeal to the emotions of his fellow delegates. Henry begins his speech in a normal tone of voice,
but throughout the video, his voice gradually gets louder with time, and in the end, he shouts his
concluding line, give me liberty, or give me death! [4] This gradual volume change in Henry s
voice enabled him to appeal to the feelings of his audience effectively, and eventually emphasize on
his message of fighting for liberty.
At the beginning of Henry s speech, he was aware of the fact that not every delegate supported
his idea of fighting British rule; some wanted America to make peace and reconciliation with
Britain. He politely acknowledged different men often see the same subject in different lights [5]
and that his aim was to express his sentiments unreservedly regarding the debate on whether
Americans should fight for their freedom or remain enslaved by the British rule. Henry hoped his
fellow delegates would not see his sentiments as disrespectful. He also told his audience that they
had a responsibility towards America and God to seek the truth and that if he held back his
opinions for fear of offending others; he would be

Common Cold Myth
There is a common belief among many in the United States that taking mega doses of vitamin C
will cure, prevent or reduce the symptoms of the common cold. Many Americans accept this idea
as fact on its face without knowing the origins or the results of many medical science journals.
The fact is that to this date there is very little evidence to substantiate the claim that taking mega
doses of vitamin C will prevent or cure the common cold. There is some evidence that vitamin C
will reduce symptoms of a cold in very specific circumstances for some people, but it is unlikely
more than a small percentage of American s fall into these categories. If the American people read
what the latest medical science journals have found on the efficacy of Vitamin C they would
probably not be as quick to part with the billions of dollars they currently spend every year on
supplements alleging to contain the vitamin. There are many... Show more content on

In 1970 chemist and Nobel laurite Linus Pauling wrote a book called Vitamin C and the
Common Cold. The book was well received by the general public as it was written more for
public consumption than scientific literature. Not long after the book s publication the vitamin
industry began to take off due to a number of bills that prevented FDA regulation (theweek.com)
continuing to increase its sales year after year into the 2000 s(cnn.com). Lianus based his claim
on the fact that humans are one of the few animals in the animal kingdom that do not produce
vitamin C in their own bodies, and since we have shift from a plant based diet to a more meat
centered diet we lack the large amounts of vitamin C our species used to consume. While there is
a large and growing body of evidence supporting the health benefits of plant based diets over meat
based and process food diets, the claim that vitamin C is the primary beneficial component of this
diet is unsubstantiated.

Claude Monet Analysis
Claude Monet s piece titled Sunrise (Marine) illustrates the daylight in the industrial port of Le
Havre of the north coast, France. This piece was made in March or April of 1873. The piece s
present location is the J. Paul Getty Museum, west pavilion, gallery w204. The medium is oil on
canvas and is next to another piece made by Monet called The Portal of Rouen Cathedral in
morning light. Claude Monetwas part of the impressionist movement that changes French paintings
of the nineteenth century. For Sunrise (1872), people criticized the paint due to the appearance of
an unfinished painting, however other artist saw it as an honor and eventually called themselves
impressionist . The painting brings out a beautiful image due to the colors, texture, and
technique that plays an important role in society and culture. When entering the room, people
crowded around Monet s pieces, which felt like an honor to see the type and techniques his work
has. The colors describe the feeling of an early morning. The painting has a muted palette of
blues, greens, and grays. The sunrise is orange and yellow which are surrounded by the clouds
and smoke from steamboats. Three boats are shapes and visible while the rest fade into the
distance. This painting is an example of plein air or outdoor painting. I also notice that Monet
layered the colors so that when I viewed the painting from a far distance I knew what the painting
was about however when I looked at it up close I saw brush strokes and

Research Paper On Dionyysus
Throughout Greek mythology, there are many great gods, goddesses and heroes. In Greek
mythology gods, goddesses and heroes often have suffered greatly but have achieved great tasks.
Out of all the great gods, goddesses and heroes, Dionysus is the greatest. Not Only did Dionysus
save people like Ariadne from the island of Naxos but he also created wine which is still one of
the most popular drinks today and is still often used to celebrate. Dionysus, or to the Romans,
Bacchus, is a great god. He is the god of wine, cheer, wild behavior, dancing, fertility, resurrection,
drama, song, vegetation, and all around jolly fellow. He was a very popular god because of his

country, believe that there is no question that Zimmerman should be convicted and sent to jail, but,
unfortunately, it is not up to the people; it is up to the justice system. With the consideration of
Florida s state laws, this is a difficult case to foresee the outcome of George Zimmerman s

there are medical reports that show that Martin had abused Zimmerman. (CNN?) As the
investigation progressed, phone calls made by witnesses were released. One phone call stood

  • 3. The Development And Development Of The Greek And Greek Empire The Roman Republic and Empire was one of the largest civilisations in the world. A significant question posed is how and why did the Roman Republic and Empire develop in the ways they did and interact with the Persian and Greek/Hellenic Empires? At the height of the Roman Empire it spanned across western Europe, and encompassed the entire Mediterranean. Lasting and developing through thousands of years, the Romans encountered and interacted with the Persian and Greek/Hellenic Empires. This included trading, co existing, and going to war with one another. Although, originally the Roman Republic and Empire was first founded by the Etruscan people. Established in 753 BCE by a Etruscan colony on the River Tiber in Italy, the city was controlled by Etruscan Kings until 509 BCE. Whence the people rose up against the monarchy to establish the Roman Republic, and fought for control of central Italy for the next 30 years. (Dr David Lundberg, 2017, pp.6 7) Thus the Roman Republic became a contending force in Western Europe, and across the Mediterranean for the next 450 years. (J.M.Roberts Odd Arne Westad, 2013, p.218) Instead of a king, two consuls and an assembly of elected magistrates were installed to rule the Roman Republic. Before a new set of consuls, and new magistrates were elected by the citizens each year. Additionally, legislative and consultative bodies were elected as Tribunes of the people, who managed the affairs of the government and managed conflicts that arose ... Case Study Issi DISC 321 Submitted to: Kamran Ali Chatha Submitted by: Group 6 17110271 17110321 17110129 17110326 This case study sheds light on the value of information as Integrating Siting Systems INC (ISSI) has to make a decision on whether to conduct a test or go with a regular decisionmaking process in deciding whether to produce a standard or robust system. Our aim is to decide whether we should install the standard system, the robust system or to carry out a test that would help us make a better decision. Assumptions: 1. Cost of reputation lost in case of Faulty system is $ 100,000. 2. We have assumed that there are only two possible outcomes if the test is imperfect i.e. whatever the system turns out to be (bad or good)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However in this case the assumption that it would cost them $100,000 in monetary terms seems fairly adequate. However from a marketing viewpoint, reputation is worth a lot. If you put it in monetary terms then if I expect that the less of reputation will cost be $1,100,000 or more, then I will change my decision to install a robust system because then the EMV of installing a standard system would be equal to or lower than that of the robust system. What is this test worth to you? What would you pay for a perfect information? The test provides us with expected value of information which helps us to evaluate our decision with cases where the information is not clear. Furthermore, the uncertainty regarding the decision, despite coming at the cost of $50,000, is resolved before a particular choice of selecting the standard or robust choice is made. However, once the decision is made, the market will take its course of action. It is simply the fact that ISSI has a fair idea of the possible outcome. If ISSI does not carry out the test, it will only have the option to either install the standard system or the robust system. The dilemma in this decision is that either ISSI will install the standard system and earn a profit of $300,000 which has a probability of 90% or a loss of $200,000 if the system does not work which has a probability of 10%. On the other hand if the robust system is installed ISSI will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Some Close Encounters of a Mental Kind by Stephen Jay Gould I spy with my little eye something blue, or is it purple, maybe green? I Spy was one of my favorite games when I was a little girl. Almost everyone as a child that I know played this game, and if you did, and your experience was anything like mine, you got stuck on an object or two a couple of times. If you didn t play, eye spy was a game where someone said a color of something they saw and you would have to guess what object it was or vice versa. Was it our own vision at fault or that of our friends that we couldn t find what we were searching for? Doesn t matter since someone saw something they didn t actually see. Stephen Jay Gould, a teacher of several subjects at Harvard University, discusses how our brain can play tricks on us in his essay titled Some Close Encounters of a Mental Kind. Although our minds are powerful things, what we see, or remember seeing, can be wrong. Perfect is definitely an adjective my mom would use to describe herself. Her eyesight, on the other hand, is far from satisfactory. When I say that, I don t mean she is in need for glasses, she doesn t see what is actually happening but rather what she wants to see. Every year my family participates in this huge celebration known as the Basque Picnic. My dad and brother are in charge of one of the food items while my grandmother and mom deal with serving. I, on the other hand, am a member of the traditional Basque dancing group that performs at the festival. One year, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rocky Statue Of Philadelphia Analysis The Face of Philadelphia; an Analysis on the Effects of the Rocky Statue The Rocky statue in Philadelphia, PA serves as an iconic symbol that has shaped the image of Philadelphia, while demonstrating that location influences the way people see art. The statue stands tall next to the Rocky Stairs, and plants into the minds of the people ideas of inspiration, self determination, and pride in accomplishment, which all help raise Philadelphiaup as a proud and progressing city. It s presence at the art museum also demonstrates the effects of location on a piece of art. Location works like a manipulation in that it influences the way people see the artwork. The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the tale of an underdog. This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it inspires people everywhere. An interview was conducted where boxers were asked to talk about Rocky s impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus, a boxer in Philadelphia says The impact it has had on fighters, and what they think they can do, and endure, and the way they go about training and style is certainly still felt today. A world championship is a possibility, based from being a relative unknown . (Dinero 1) The statue gives Philadelphia something monumental to stand on and something to represent all the hardship the city has been through. The Rocky character also embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats at the same restaurants, runs through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This gives the statue a personal connection to the people of the city, one they can claim as their own. The places and stores seen in the movie are very popular tourist attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos Bros, a popular site from the movie says It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all Philadelphians have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of overwhelming odds (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of diversity and just as the city and its people have been through hard times, so has Rocky. The statue also appeals to people worldwide not only because of its iconic underdog story, but because of its ability to appeal on a personal level. Whenever failure is upon someone, Rocky inspires them to come back strong because if you work hard you can achieve your goals. He was one of five children, three boys; Herbert, Raymond, and Roy, and one girl, Ruth. After the birth of Walt, the family moved to Marceline, Missouri where they had a farm. • 10. The Issues Surrounding The Idea Of Immunization Essay In this assignment I intend to explore the issues surrounding the idea of immunization. The purpose of immunization is to prevent people from acquiring infectious diseases and to protect them against the associated short and longer term complications (Cory, 2012). Vaccines produce a specific immune response to build resistance against infectious diseases (Government of South Australia, 2012). There are two main perspectives surrounding this issue, for and against receiving injections. Those who support immunizationbelieve the riskis minimal because the benefits exceed the negative effects that may occur from the injections. However, other people feel there is huge risk involved because the injections will not increase immunity levels and the possibilities of negative reactions are too great of risk. This conflict of perceptions is related to the way people perceive cognitive limitations, the psychometric paradigm and the axiomatic paradigm; these include factors such as dread, control and voluntariness. A great influence on these perceptions is health professionals communication strategies, who target social media, advertisements and reports. The concept of risk means different things to different people. In order to make decisions wisely, individuals need to understand the risks and the benefits associated with alternative courses of action. (Baruch Fischhoff, 1993). An experiment was conducted to see if ammonium nitrate would indeed help with spore germination pertaining to the C Fern, Ceratopteris richardii. The experiment consisted of two different dishes, each containing a different culture one with ammonium nitrate and the other without. It was hypothesized that the control group, the petri dish without the ammonium nitrate, will have a higher rate of germinated spores compared to the experimental group, the petri dish with ammonium nitrate. The results revealed that although in each group the control had more geminated spores that there was no significant difference or variance. So the hypothesis was correct in terms of which would have more geminated spores. All in all, the experimental design had several openings for error so if the experiment were to be repeated a more controlled environment should be used. Vascular plants have been around for millions of years and have revolutionized the world s ecology ever since their first appearance. Animal Experimentation is not only beneficial in gaining knowledge on diseases, but can also help to discover cures. Animal testing is not a very new idea, and has been performed for a large portion of history. Some of the earliest experiments can be traced back to early Greek physicians and scientist such as Aristotle and Erasistratus who did tests on living animal subjects to find the differences between sensory nerves, tendons, and motor nerves. All of these early procedures were performed without any type of pain reliever or sedative used. In today s times, there are plenty of different anesthetics to be used to help make these procedures easier for both an animal and the scientist. Later on, another Greek physician named Galen used animal testingto advance multiple fields in medicine such as pathology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. In twelfth century Spain, Arab physician Ibn Zuhr used animal testing as a new way for testing surgical procedures on animals before they were used on humans. These tests and experiments went without question for many centuries, until recently when these practices came under question by many animals rights groups. Animal testing is also used to test new pharmaceutical drugs before they are released to the public. If these tests aren t done catastrophe may ensue. In 1937 a new drug was created ... Pop culture has a strong influence on the social construction of gender because images from pop culture convey powerful messages about gender stereotyped, especially regarding women s appearance. Some theories suggest that the colonists left the island to live with friendly neighboring Indians. Others suggest that a hurricane wiped out the colony or that a savage Indian tribe massacred them. The possibility of disease destroying them is also a debated topic. However, evidence indicates that the men and women left behind on Roanoke Islanddid not die because of massacre, disease, or starvation but went to live with the Croatoan Indians. According to David Beers Quinn, author of Set Fair for Roanoke, the colonists and the Indians did intermarry (350). The colonists intermarrying with the Indians would cause some of the offspring to have genetic traits unusual for Indians, such as blue eyes or light colored hair. In his article about the lost colony, Scott Dawson writes that an explorer named John Lawson discovered blue eyed Indians dressed in English apparel; Dawson also says that the Indians claimed to have White descendants (6). Therefore, by making Manteo lord of Roanoke and intermarrying with the Indians, the colonists proved their strong relationship with the Croatoans. Upon his return, John White met with no indications of the deaths of the colonists. Linda Kramer states that John White and the colonists agreed that in the event of leaving Roanoke, the colonists in a noticeable location would engrave the name of the place to which they were departing and that an engraving of a Maltese cross above the name of the location would signal leaving because of danger (3). When White returned to the colony after three years of being absent, he discovered one of the signals the colonists promised to engrave if they left. It is an appropriate time for me to reflect on my learning and practice in spiritual direction in the past few weeks in the areas of the journey of faith, emotion in spiritual direction, the purgative way, triads, meeting with directees in the sessions and supervision. I appreciate working on the exercise in one of the classes on recalling one of my religious spiritual experience prior to the end of high school and one of my religious of spiritual experience since then. My journey and my story belong uniquely to me and it provides the starting place from which to understand further the Critical Journey. Therefore the identification of the stages of my journey of faith assists me to discover where I may be along the way and recognize where I have been. This knowledge of the different stages of the journey of faith allows me to appreciate where others are on their journey of faith in similar or different stages. I notice that one of my directees struggles with noticing the presence of Godin his life. In one of the sessions I invited him to recall one incident of his previous journey where he felt there was the presence of God. This helped him to reflect on his past experience and in turn, it provided encouragement for him to move forward. He probably is still at stage two in the journey of faith where he needs to find the meaning of belonging. There are a lot of things to learn from Fischer s guiding principles for working with emotionin spiritual direction. These principles aid me to understand directee s emotion and language and thy allow me listen to the directee deeply. I know one of her guiding principles bringing hidden and unacknowledged emotions to awareness always leads to breakthrough on the spiritual journey. Hence in one of my sessions I used that principle to help me to listen to the directee s issue by providing a safe space to allow the directee to feel secure to explore his or her own emotions without the feelingof being judged by the director. In seeking to strike a balance between work and pleasure, for long Spaniards have practiced the traditional siesta. Professionals along with students often return to their respective homes around noon for a couple of hours to rest and enjoy familytime coupled with a heavy lunch. Most businesses will always shut down for a few hours during this time. Conversely, the 21st century Spanish generation has slowly evaded this cultural practice. Much as the big cities are constantly busy moving at faster paces similar to most Western countries, smaller towns and villages nonetheless continue to take siestas as part of their daily routine (Thyberg). Spanish terminology for Tapa is tapear and going for Tapa hardly implies ordering several dishes in one particular restaurant, but bar hopping from one restaurant to another eating a different Tapa for each round in every spot. As a young boy growing up in North Carolina in the early 1800 s, Levi saw firsthand the reality of slavery. One day while he was out with his father helping to chop wood by the roadside, a group of slaves, handcuffed and chained together, passed by on their way to be sold in Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana. When Levi s father asked them why they were chained, one of the men sadly replied: They have taken us away from our wives and children, and they chain us lest we should make our escape and go back to them. 1 After the group of slaves had gone, young Levi wondered to himself how he would feel if his father were taken away from him. • 24. Design Of An Integrated Circuit CHAPTER 1 1.INTRODUCTION 1.1Overview Nowadays it is impossible to imagine any device where microelectronics is not present, from personal computers through home appliances, modern society relies on the performance of integrated circuits. It is so, that microelectronics advent has opened doors to new horizons where integrated circuits have played an important role from the very beginning of their creation since the late 1950s, when Jack St. Clair Kilby, a Texas Instruments Engineer, decided to change the future, conceiving the first integrated circuit, where the components, passive as well as active, were placed over a piece of semi conductive material (Germanium piece) that was half the size of a paper clip. The success of this element (called chip due to its small size) containing a few transistors, resistors, and capacitors, led to the Physics Nobel Prize for its inventor in 2000. The design of an integrated circuit involves a development plan, where its functional characteristics and performance will define the elaboration of the logic circuit diagram. Once the diagram is finished, a series of simulations are executed to test the operation of the designed circuit; if no issues are encountered, a massive production plan is implemented. This manufacturing process has allowed the miniaturization of most of the devices used daily, translating to lower production costs. The typical manufacturing process involves the interconnection of the integrated circuit chips to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though the problem with this is that poor editors do not just have an effect on their own writing and their own essay, but they affect others, as well. Students do not put as much time or effort into revising as they are required to do. The rough draft is meant to be byzantine, with the understanding that a thorough editor will comb through every sentence and completely tear it apart. In a great swoosh of energy, [the writer] plunges into the writing, putting down everything that occurs to him in the first of what may turn out to be 9 or 10 drafts (Epstein para. 10). Of course, it often ends up being a repetitive and extensive process; however, if it seems boring, then the editingis not being executed correctly. Dr. Martin Gibala, Dr. Jeff Zachwieja and Dr. Chris Rosenbloom are three peer reviewed experts that help provide answers to common questions concerning protein and its role in an athlete s diet. The first discussion covers the basics of protein. Amino acids are the building blocks that bind protein together. According to Dr. Zachwieja there are specific sequences of amino acids that gives the protein its structure, its integrity, and, ultimately, its functionality as well. Dr. Rosenbloom explains, the body requires roughly 20 amino acids. Nine of the 20 can not be created by our bodies, they can only be consume through food and... Two out of three of these studies have shown benefits of protein during exercise, where the other two has not. Zachwieja states there is no benefit for consuming carbs and protein during exercise. Dr. Gibala agrees with Zachwieja, there is little evidence supporting 4 to 1 carbohydrate to protein is beneficial. However, Gibala believes adding protein to an athlete s diet can add energy to perform longer. According to Dr. Rosenbloom, there are carbohydrate needs and protein needs and fluids, and we have to make sure we meet those necessities around the training schedule (cite). He also, states protein is not a good source of fuel for the body. Rosenbloom explains, the primary source of energy comes from the consumption of carbohydrates, however protein and hydration is necessary for recovery and energy. I agree with Rosenbloom, our body requires a combination of carbohydrates, proteins and fluids to meet the demands of our training schedule. Also, I believe consuming protein during exercise might benefit us by providing additional energy, especially on high intensity and volume workouts, long distance running and cycling. However, predominately, carbohydrate is king when it comes to supplying energy for the body, then fat, and the third choice is amino acids from protein. The amount ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Use Of Oxymorons In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet It s often said that heartbreak teaches a lesson that nobody want to hear but will eventually have to learn. It s a lesson that provides a certain wisdom and maturity that can only be achieved after heartbreak takes its course, without it finding love is like finding the end of a maze in pitch dark. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, this claim is proved throughout act 1, scene 1 through the results of Romeo s premature heartbreak with Rosaline. Shakespeare uses oxymorons to reveal Romeo as a character that is melodramatic along with being ill experienced when it comes to love. Through oxymorons, Shakespeare is able to build Romeo s faГ§ade as a character with a boy like comprehension of love. In Act 1, Scene 1, after a fight between the Capulets and the Montagues breaks out, Romeo who was not involved in the fight tries to figure out why the fights continue to occur between the families. Summary Of Heyoka Ceremony From Black Elk Speaks Heyoka Ceremony from Black Elk Speaks, by Nicholas Black Elk is a story dedicated to the Indian nation and the Hayoki a religious people intrinsically connected to nature through their visions of thunderous creatures who were once part of this nation. Traditionally, Hayoki participates in religious ceremonies where this particular ceremony involved the sacrificing of a dog, a seemingly foolish act done with great reverence to the thunder beings of the west, that not only demonstrates their faith, beliefs, and traditions but also keeps them connected to the spiritual realm. It s important to note that as inhumane as it may seem to Western cultures, this sacrifice was done in the most respectful way possible, as Lakota promotes the respect of mother earth and everything in it. Even though the sacrificial killing of a domestic animal like a dog can be seen as controversial, in order to understand the Heyoka Ceremonies, we must first understand its origins.... They made a decision to take a road trip under harsh weather conditions with limited amount of food and gas. They missed their exit, and decided to take an unknown, dangerous route where they got stuck for nine days. In my opinion, the moral of the story is to plan and prepare for a road trip especially under inclement weather. It s essential to carry an emergency kit, extra food, water, and clothing in case one gets stuck due to poor road conditions. Prior to starting a road trip, it s important to know about the weather conditions and travel advisories on the area. Family members should know the route of the planned trip. The vehicle must have a full tank of gas, and be in good mechanical condition to withstand a road trip under harsh weather. Most importantly, we should pay attention to warning signs such as fatigue, fuel levels and bad road conditions to stop, and reconvene the trip when it s safe to travel to our final destination. Major negative issues that hindered their survival The Kim s family survival was impacted by many adverse actions. First, James drove the entire trip.
