Different Types Of Groups Formed For Particular Purposes
For every organization, there are different types of groups formed for particular purposes. The most
common groups are; formal, informal, command groups and committees.
For this particular task, the group was a committee made up of members from different departments
within the company. The key players in the committee were drawn from the human resource (HR)
assistants/specialists, the HR management, and the hospital director along with other senior hospital
administrators. The members mentioned above of the committee where called to discuss and assess
issues regarding the reason for the occasional delay in background check investigations within the
organization which caused a delay in the hiring process. Members of the management department
handle issues regarding how to better manage this process; human resource specialist were called to
handle the logistical issues and the assistants handle issues of suppliers and customer while members
of the management provide direction and inputs in case of disagreements.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the reason behind the delay in completing
background investigations, which had been undergoing problems in recent times. The meeting was
meant to figure out what was causing delays in the completion of background checks and find
solutions to ensure that the issues were thoroughly dealt with and a lasting solution adopted. The main
agenda, of course, being the delays in the process and the steps required to solve the

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Analysis
In the chapter Coming of Age in Mississippi;
Anne Moody had always heard about so many people shot dead floating down the river but she never
really knew why. She overheard a little about Emmett Till s death as her and her friends were
following behind a group of boy s on their way home from school. She thought they were unusually
quiet until they started shouting about a fourteen year old boy that got killed by white men because he
whistled at her. Mrs. Burke also asked her about the boy and told her, He was killed because he got
out of his place with a white woman. (1) She then went to her teacher Mrs. Rice for questions and
found out about Emmett till s case.

According to Mrs. Burke, Emmett Till had to die because he was a very disrespectful boy that got out
of his place with a white woman. He was from up North so she said that the Negro men were more
disrespectful up north than there in the south.

Opal Mining Of Australi The Mining Capital Of The World
Opal Mining in Australia
Australia contains a lot of opal, especially in South Australia producing an estimated 95 97% of the
world s opal supply. All of the opal mines in Australia are located in the Artesian Basin which contains
many mining towns such as Lightning Ridge, Andamooka, White Cliffs and Coober Pedy, which has
been called the mining capital of the world.
All of these towns are situated in Australia s outback, the land mostly consisting of barren dry rock
and dirt. But hiding in the endless dusty land and rocks are masses of Opal. Coober Pedy, Lightning
Ridge, and Andamooka are home to many Opal mines, most of which are underground mines. The
whole of Coober Pedy has many underground mines for opals extending out 40kms around the town
with over 200,000 mine shafts which can be up to 27m deep. Andamooka another prominent mining
town has 52km2 of mines both underground and open mines, three to ten meters deep into the seabed.
In all of these rural mining towns there is not that much infrastructure due to the small populations and
most residents will either be in the mining or tourism industry. This is good for mining as more of the
land is able to use to mine the opals. In Coober Pedy a lot of residents live in underground homes
called dugouts because of the harsh hot weather in Coober Pedy. This meant that there was no concern
for the underground mines as they did not interfere with residential living space, in fact many homes
were made out of old mines. There

What Was Paul s Response Of The 1st Century Circumcision...

Final Exam
1. Paul and Gnosticism.
What was Paul s response to the 1st century circumcision controversy? What were the characteristic
features (beliefs practices) of Gnostic Christianity? And in your judgment, can either viewpoint (or
both) be considered orthodox over against the other?
Throughout the early history of Christianity, disputes broke out over mosaic law, particularly in the
mid first century when the issue of circumcision, cutting off the foreskin of a man s penis, was a
heavily debated and a recurring issue among different churches and members of the church. Many
Christians believed that following the mosaic law, which included the act of circumcision, was no
longer required for salvation as having faith and accepting Jesus as the messiah would be enough.
Others, on the other hand, believed that requirements set forth in the mosaic law were still necessary
to be saved. These people were negatively branded with the name Judaizers (those who believed that
all Christians should follow the Law of Moses), and were often criticized for being discriminatory and
elitist. A meeting was then held to discuss the whether the application of the mosaic law to new
members of the Christian community, particularly focusing on if those trying to convert, were obliged
undergo circumcision to be accepted into, and become part of, the Christian community. The apostolic
decree of the council of Jerusalem moved away from its

The Pros And Cons Of Celebrity Advertisements
Celebrities have been widely used to generate sales for products. We have seen popular stars such as
Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and many more being used to advertise products. The aim of an
advertisement is to target a group of consumers and generate sales .In support to the latter; the
celebrities are chosen carefully to reach out to the targeted group that will influence positive consumer
s behaviour towards the brand.

Celebrity endorsers are more commonly used in traditional media such as TV. And we have seen
celebrities from different aspect such as, Athletes from different sporting background. Celebrities used
to promote a product would be called celebrity spokesman as he or she is required to testify the
personal experience with the product.
The content of what a celebrity says in the advertisements grabs the viewers attention that will create
an attitude towards the brand. The attitude audiences would have towards the brand would be if the
product is good for him/her it would be good for me too . This attitude will create a win win situation
for both celebrity and brand as celebrity will attain more recognition while there is more credibility for
the brand.
Being credible alone is not enough; celebrities also help brands build brand awareness. In this case the
choice of celebrity would come into place such as to position the brand. Nike has used potential
celebrities that have endorsed their products and have become famous in which their strategy gain

Child Behavior And Language Assessment
The postulate we chose to research is from the social participation frame of reference. It states that if
routine is provided for difficult or disorganizing activities, children will develop calmer and more
cooperative behaviors during those activities (Olson, 2010). When researching for an article that either
supported or refuted the postulate, Family Centered Intervention for Young Children at risk for
Language and Behavior Problems was found. The study was initiated by dividing forty one randomly
selected children, ages 3 5 years, with potential language and behavioral difficulties into a control
group or intervention group receiving adult support (Chao, Bryan, Burstein, Ergul, 2006). The purpose
was to explore the impact parent involvement and routines have on the development of socially
acceptable behavior and language in children (Chao et al., 2006). Parents were asked to rate various
aspects of their child, such as motor skills and behavior, then decide activities in the Child Behavior
and Language Assessment (CBLA) to focus on and review intermittently in a log to help conclude if
the intervention was beneficial or not (Chao et al., 2006). The intervention was based on the reviews
and opinions of the parents and occasional professional observation. CBLA is comprised of
assessments of children s language and behavior, and routine based activities assisting the
establishment of language and ideal behavior (Chao et al., 2006). The

Political Ideology In Pakistan Research Paper
Ideology
Ideology is a comprehensive set of normative beliefs, conscious and unconscious ideas, that an
individual, group or society has. In social studies, a political ideology is a certain ethical set of ideals,
principles, doctrine or symbols of a social movement, or a large group that explains how a society
should work .1 Political ideologies are concerned with many different aspects of society including the
economy, education, health care, justice system and foreign policy.
There are two dimensions to political ideologies:
Goals
Methods
Goals refer to beliefs of a party about how a government and country should work and methods refers
to the path a party may take to achieve them.

Compare And Contrast Qin Dynasty And Han Dynasty
China, up until the Qin Dynasty, consisted of independent states controlled by kings fighting each
other for land and power. This time period was called The Era of Warring States, and it lasted two
hundred years. After this time, the Qin Dynasty rose to power. The Qin conquered all other
independent states, and established a centralized government, unifying China for the first time. The
Han Dynasty succeed the Qin and continued to rule with a centralized government and while initiating
a westward expansion that would encourage trade and cultural diffusion. The Qin and Han Dynasties

The Qin preferred to keep foreigners out and focus on improving their empire internally while the Han
wanted to build a relationships with foreigners. The Qin Dynasty had a deep distrust of outsiders and
fear of invasion by the Xiongu, China s nomadic neighbors to the North. Qin Shi Huang wanted to
prevent the Xiongu from invading, so he decided to build a massive wall along the Qin s northern
territories. This wall is known as The Great Wall of China. Qin Shi Huang preferred to focus on
connecting his empire instead of building relationships with outsiders. In his rule, he commissioned
many beneficial building projects such as vast road systems, and complex irrigation projects. The feud
the Qin had against the Xiongu continued into the Han dynasty. Early Han leaders preferred to gift the
Xiongu with extravagant gifts to persuade them from taking Han land. However, in 140BC, Emperor
Wu became emperor of China. He would completely revolutionize China s foreign relations and trade
economy. Wu set up colonies to force the Xiongu out of their land and started alliances with local
leaders. Eventually, the Han allied themselves with the Southern Federation of the Xiongu, which
would prove useful in fighting against the Xiongu. One alliance with the Dong people in Southern
China lasted though the Han, Tang, and Song Dynasties. These alliances, which included gift giving,

How Far Do Zinc Acetate Dehydrate
AZO thin films are prepared by the sol gel route. As a starting material, zinc acetate dehydrate
(Zn(CH3COO)2, 2H2O) (sigma Aldrich) is dissolved in a mixture of pure ethanol and
monoethanolamine (MEA, C2H7NO) to yield a precursor concentration of 0.75 M. Aluminum nitrate
nonahydrate (Al(NO3)3, 9H2O) (sigma Aldrich) was added to provide a solution with an atom ratio
Al/Zn of 3%. This resulting mixture was stirred for 1 h at 50°C. The MEA to zinc acetate molar ratio
was set to 1.0. Prior to sample deposition, the glass substrates were firstly degreased by detergent and

A Report Card For Yankton School District
For the first project requirements, I collected data for the Yankton School District and the Mitchell
School District from the South Dakota Department of Education s website. I specifically looked at
each district s report card that included performance indicators, school performance index, staffing
and student population statistics, attendance numbers and high school completion and college and
career readiness statistics. Each school district s report card contained further detailed information and
percentages regarding test scores in math, ELA, and science.
After collecting and organizing the data from the district report card for Yankton School District, one
of the most interesting trends I found was the difference in scores between 2013 and 2014. For the
years 2012 and 2013, scores were reported on four levels: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, and
Advanced. Then in 2014, the scores were reported on a new leveling system including the four levels:
Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. When reviewing the different levels, I compared Level 1 to
Below Basic. In 2013 for the 6th grade class, out of 190 students, 0.53% of those students scored at
the Below Basic level in math. However, in 2014 for the 6th grade class, out of 166 students, 32.32%
of those students scored at Level 1. Even when evaluating the same group of students, the 7th grade
class for 2014, I noticed a rather large increase as well, with 23.30% of 209 students scoring at the
Level 1.

Summary OfThe Dying Negro By Aphra Behn s Oroonoko
Aphra Behn s Oroonoko and The Dying Negro by John Bicknell and Thomas Day are two texts that
have shaped the way British authors capture the slave narrative. Both texts were written by white,
British people. Both texts have the tendency to ignore the actual issue that is slavery. Oroonoko, or
The Royal Slave and The Dying Negro utilize the theme of the noble savage to present pro slavery and
oppressive ideas through an abolitionist text.
In The Emergence of Modern Racism: First Stage Cornel West writes:
The recovery of classical antiquity...produced what I shall call a normative gaze; namely, an ideal
from which to offer and compare observations. This idea was drawn primarily from classical aesthetic
values of beauty, proportion, and human form and classical cultural standards of moderation, self
control, and harmony (97).
Behn s Oroonooko cannot be classified as an anti slavery text because it stills depicts a form of
oppression. The narrator does have a negative view on slavery, but one of the only reasons it is
accepting of the narrator is because he fits into the European stand of beauty. Behn writes:
The most famous statuary could not form the figure of a man more admirably turned from head to
foot. His face was not that of brown, rusty black, which most of that nation are, but a perfect ebony or
polished jet.... His nose was rising and roman instead of African and flat. His mouth the finest shape

males that are on the island did not seem an interest to the females, which slowed down the population
rate. The tortoise lives in a breeding center in Santa Cruz but is from a species called Chelnoidis

Jessie Pope War Women Analysis
Masculinity and Femininity in Jessie Pope s war poems: War Girls and The Call The world wars have
greatly impacted modern British literature in the 20th century. There were many poems written about
the period of war; some showed them in a positive light and some negative. Gender roles, gender
relations on what means to be a man or a woman impacted greatly during this time. In particular with
World War I, women in large numbers took over jobs in the homeland while the men were out
fighting. Questions on what is femininity and what is masculinity were on the rise. Men were
constantly fed with the idea that they should be drafted into the war. This propaganda was seen

It represents the gender of this person who is doing the jobs like a man. That is not the whole story
because in the 5th line, this gender is called Strong, sensible, and fit, This stands out in the poem as it
follows the rule of 3 of a poem to describe the qualities of the new woman now. It is controversial to
the usual perspective of a woman since these adjectives are associated with a man more than a
woman. This exhibits that the typical views of what femininity is changed during the wartime. The
usage of the word grit in line 6 is also a word associated with masculinity but it is used in the poem to
describe women. The poem also shows femininity to be related to toil because Pope mentions a girl
who does a milk round in the rain (3). The physical hard work of the woman is to be revered
according to Pope. The imagery of not being caged or penned up anymore (7) is a strong one it
explains that the war brought redemption and freedom to women. A definitive declarative statement is
made in the 9th line of the poem, They re going to make their end up , Pope is manifesting her
confidence in the women of Britain who are serving their country by being the workforce. The shift in
the gender roles is empowering for women during the wartime and Pope associates this with
patriotism as well. The heavy van the girl is driving is especially described as heavy because women

Negative Effects Of Driverless Cars
As the idea of technology is increasing exponentially, a new concept of self driving cars has arisen in
today s society. Rather than people driving the car, this new car will be driven by a computer or
technology. This car could be beneficial to society because of its ability to safely and quickly navigate
itself without any distractions. But because this car is based fully on technology, the probability the
car could malfunction and lead to more deaths is larger than the average non autonomous car. One
time, I was stopped at an intersection and a car ran the red light and t boned an oncoming vehicle. The
man claimed he had a failure in his automatic braking system, and he was unable to brake at the red
light. This represented the harsh reality technology is not always reliable. Driverless cars are not
beneficial to society because the cars have a negative effect on the safety and the economy in the
community.
Autonomous cars are not profitable to society because not only do they put the driver at risk, but they
also put pedestrians at risk. Although non autonomous cars have a chance of being hacked, driverless
cars will have less of opportunity for a passenger to correct any errors (Haines). With the inability to
correct a hacked car, the roads become a very dangerous place for pedestrians and other drivers
because this car will be travelling at rapid speeds with no one at the wheel. These cars, when hacked,
can easily fly through neighborhoods and put children playing

Difference Between Parallel Thinking And Argumentative...
Parallel thinking and argumentative thinking are two different types of thinking method. Parallel
thinking method is commonly known as six hats thinking, which was invented by Dr. Edward de Bono
in 1967(). According to the Oxford English Dictionary (20xx), parallel thinking is a way of solving
problems by using your imagination to find new ways of looking at the problem. It indicates that all
participants are looking for the common goal at the same time and individual can have constructive
discussion with different ideas. On the other hand, argumentative thinking method is for individual to
think an idea or opinion for the purpose of persuade others and prove that my ideas are the best ().
These two thinking methods have their advantages and disadvantages, which ... Show more content on

Although argumentative thinking method is said to discuss rationally with reasonable opinions, this
method always produce conflicts between the participants. When an individual disagrees with one

ideas as he thinks his ideas are the best (). If the two members, who insist on their own opinion in a
discussion, there will be no breakthrough progress or new ideas come up (). In an argumentative
thinking, individuals seldom accept others ideas and the discussion is less likely to end up with
unanimous conclusion, such as the discussion between the Hong Kong Government and The Hong
Kong Federation of Students during the Occupy Central. At the meeting, they kept repeating their
personal views and ignored the opinions from the opposite party, which made no progress in reaching
a consensus. Also, the discussion led to personal insult, which is definitely harmful for any
relationships and self esteem (). However, this situation seldom happens if parallel thinking method is

The Effect Of Temperature On Surface Chemistry
3. Theoretical Background
3.1 Surface Chemistry
Weather a surface is hydrophobic or hydrophilic largely depends upon surface chemistry. Each and
every surface has energy which is proportional to area .For liquids surface tension is identical to
surface energy. And we know everything moves towards reducing its energy therefore drops tend to be
spherical. But what about droplets on a solid surface. Drops form an inverted cup like structure and
the angle made by drop surface with the solid surface is called the contact angle. Every surface has
Surface Energy. There is surface energy or surface tension between air solid liquid. Contact angle is
defined as the equilibrium angle made by liquid surface with the solid surface.Young s equation
describes the force balance between the interfacial tensions formed at the solid liquid vapor contact
line.
3.2 Contact Angle
When a drop of liquid is placed onto a solid surface, it forms a so called contact angle (θ). The Young
s equation for the contact angle of a liquid can be applied only to a flat surface and not to a rough one.
The contact angle of a liquid on a perfectly smooth and chemically homogeneous solid surface is
given by Young s equation : cos θ = ( σsg σsl )/ σlg where σsg, σsl and σlgare the interfacial tensions
of the solid vapor, solid liquid and the liquid vapor interface respectively .
From the above Youngs equation we can find the angle which the liquid

Occurrence of fibroids is heavily dependent on estrogen and progesterone. Fibroids, therefore, are
more common in women of reproductive years. Fibroids are known to shrink after menopause. Some
causes include obesity and high blood pressure. Research has also shown that women with a family
history of uterine fibroids are more likely to develop the condition. African American women are more
prone to developing tumors than their Caucasian counterparts. Some surveys in the United States have
indicated that lower intake of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus have caused occurrence of fibroids
in the uterus.
Fibroids are known to have more estrogen and estrogen receptors than the normal muscle cells. Fat
cells in the stomach region are known to produce estrogen which is a risk factor. Therefore, it pays to
control weight, especially abdominal fat. The visceral fat or the fat that surrounds internal organs is
more dangerous than the fat just below the skin. There are also some compounds thought to aggravate

Examples Of Injustice In Jubilee By Margaret Walker
Injustice can never be stood for. American actress Amber Heard is stating that injustice is intolerable
and instead of waiting for things to get better, you should work towards trying to create an equal
society if you want to live a better life. Unfortunately, America s past has been full of injustice,
especially during the Civil War. In the novel Jubilee written by Margaret Walker, injustice is

After Jim accidently let the pig, who was about to give birth, die, Innis Brown, Vyry s second
husband, got so angry with Jim that he beat him. Jim ran into the house ...sobbing hysterically and
screaming incoherent words between sobs (482). It became clear to Vyry that something was wrong.
Vyry could tell Jim had been beaten because ...his shirt was in shreds and sticking to his skin and she
[Vyry] saw his back was bleeding (482). Once Jim ran up into his room, Innis Brown came back into
the house with the stick he had used to beat Jim. Innis greeted Vyry at the door by saying Where is that
good for nothing trifling low down boy? I ain t begun to beat him. I feels like skinning his hide! (483).
This caused Vyry to grow furious with Innis because she did not agree with the fact that her husband
was beating her child. Under these circumstances, Jim was not the only one to be affected; the incident
split up the whole family for some time, as well. The house was so gloomy that morning... Everybody
ate in silence and no one paid attention to Harry s chatter or the dog... (488). Nobody talked to
eachother for a few days, and Vyry was so abstracted that the children stopped trying to talk to her

situation put a small dent in the family, but they were eventually able to overcome it and move

Universal Health Care Benefits
Universal health care can benefit Americans to no end. Many countries have tried it out, and it has
succeeded. Universal health care does not mean everything is free. It isn t a hand out. It just means
that if you break a bone, or have a medical condition you get taken care of without having thousands
of dollars in medical expenses. I have known, personally, many people who couldn t pay their medical
expenses, including my own mother. Everyone needs health care, even if currently they have no
medical problem. It s crucial. About 33 million Americans did not have health care in 2014, and health
care should be a right. The other side has an argument that costs will increase, and it will put us in
even more debt. Our current debt is $18,152,809,942,589.

Stainless Steel Cookware Essay
The best kitchen tools for stainless steel cookware might not be what you think, but first a few
comments about the cookware itself. Stainless steel cookware is shiny and attractive, and is used in
many professional kitchens in preference to any other type. It looks extremely clean and bright, and
has a very prestigious appearance when hanging in your kitchen in full view of visitors. Stainless steel
is a good choice of metal for your cookware, although paradoxically it is not a great heat conductor so
the best form of stainless cookware to purchase should have highly conductive copper or aluminum
sandwiched between the stainless steel at the base of the pan. This will ensure a more even
distribution of heat across the base of the pan and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wood is fine, but the problem is that you don t get a full range of kitchen tools in wood. Wooden
spoons and spatulas are common, but not slotted spoons, ladles or wooden fish slices. You can use
wood to an extent, and also some plastics so long as they are not too soft. Plastic tools are OK: they
are functional and won t harm your stainless steel cookware, but they can soften and they don t
generally have the strength behind them for any heavy jobs on the stove. Plastic also melts if you
leave it too long in contact with the side of a pan and that is not an uncommon occurrence as I am sure
you will know. However, wood and plastic have one advantage over stainless steel kitchen tools, and
that is that they don t conduct heat very well. You can use them without burning your hands. There is
one solution to that problem that the wonders of science have brought to us: silicone. Kitchen tools
made from cross linked silicone polymers do not melt, do not conduct heat and do not scratch stainless
steel cookware. However, they do cost money and they still look like plastic. Don t get me wrong
looks aren t everything, but for many women the look of their kitchen is just as important as its
functionality, and often even more

One Moment in Kyle s life that demonstrated his No Excuses attitude is when he first moved to
Georgia and said that there was no excuse for him to not make new friends. Kyle was nervous that
when he got to his new school people would treat him differently because of his disability. He decided
that he would first build up his own self confidence. He let everyone know that he was just like them.
He wanted the other children to feel comfortable around him. He wanted them to treat him like they

Singer Theme
Being raised by a rabbi in a large Jewish neighborhood, Isaac Bashevis Singer uses Jewish beliefs and
themes as the focal point in almost all of his works. As Singer retells many childhood stories in his
memoir In My Father s Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he witnesses his
father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in his later adult
work, as seen in his short story A Crown of Feathers ; though it is evident through the story that his
view on forgiveness had changed as he grew older. While Singer has retained the theme of forgiveness
in his work, it has matured and darkened as a result of his life experiences. As the son of a rabbi,

Singer realized that his beliefs were not as simple as he thought as a child and that there is much more
inner turmoil present needed for forgiveness. This realization came with growing up in a conflict
ridden Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. Singer s perception of forgiveness evolved not only
due to simply growing up, but also possibly because of the Holocaust and its effect on other Jews, as
he was able to avoid it. Singer s relationship with forgiveness shows the complexity of both faith and

Petruchio, Kate, Bianca, Baptista, Lucentio, and Hortensio. Petruchio came to Padua to marry the
shrew of the city Kate. As the story progresses, we notice how Petruchio tries to tame the shrew by
himself being a much greater shrew. Petruchio would always have to be the correct one when it came
to a discussion with Kate, even when he was obviously incorrect. Given all what the play has shown
us, we can say that Petruchio is the real shrew in the play and Kate is just a regular girl. During the
play, we mainly watched Petruchio trying to win over Kate

It is crucial to analyse the financial statement of an organization to evaluate the overall performance of
an organization so that the stakeholders have a clear idea of what they are investing in. Two significant
methods of assessing an organization for analysis are evaluating its financial performance and

The Influence of Chinese and Irish Laborers on the Transcontinental Railroad
The Chinese and Irish laborers answered strongly when asked to help build the Transcontinental
Railroad that connected the Pacific and the Atlantic Coasts. During the long process the immigrant
workers encountered harsh weather and living and working conditions. Their work produced the Great
Iron Trail in an incredibly short time with minimal resources and equipment. Their struggles are often
overlooked and their overseers credited with the building of the railroad. The Chinese and Irish found
what entertainment they could, often challenging each other to lay more track in one day than the

The Irish had come from a hostile Boston in search of a place in the job market. They found an
equality they had been unable to find in New England (Potter 670; Howard 225). Although they found
jobs, few were very successful. A majority still lived in shantytowns and poverty even in California.
The Civil War played a major role in who was hired and how the employees were chosen. The Civil
War began in 1861, two years before the groundbreaking to start the transcontinental railroad and one
year before the Great Railroad Act of 1862. The construction on the transcontinental railroad was
finished in 1869, four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after the groundbreaking
(Howard 126 143; website). The western and eastern railroad companies had always depended on
immigrant workers and with the start of the Civil War, this dependency was even greater (Johnson and
Supple 191). There was a shortage of white Americans willing to work because they had either
enlisted or been drafted into the war (Hogg 71; Howard 224). The Chinese were forced into a servant
s/slave s life. In some cases, white men imported Chinese laborers in crowded ships, much like the
African slaves, and hired at auctions (Hogg 72 73). The Chinese were also looking for a way out of
poverty and slavery and saw the transcontinental railroad as a means of escape. During the Civil War,
the wealthy were able to buy their way out of the draft, leaving the poor to fight. The Irish

Summary Of The Faces In The Mirror By Ty Burr
Why are people so fascinated with celebrities? What makes people want to be like them? What are
celebrities actually like? Facing these tough questions, Ty Burr in his essay The Faces in the Mirror
forces readers to question their own answers. By explaining the history of celebrities and the worship
of them, he gives readers a wealth of knowledge. Wisely, Burr immediately establishes his credibility
so that readers know they can trust his educated point of view. His essay is full of strong logic.
However, it lacks a substantial amount of hardcore facts. Furthermore, Burr effortlessly snatches the
reader s attention by using dramatic statements and achieving a sense of pathos. Burr s authority on
the topic, along with his convincing logic, and dramatic statements allow his essay to achieve a
remarkable persuasiveness to his essay.
In his essay, Burr instantly creates a sense of ethos. Within the first two paragraphs, Burr articulated
that he is a professional film critic for a major metropolitan daily newspaper (Burr 31). Because of this
statement, he gained credibility on the subject of actors. Additionally, he has interviewed a number of
actors and directors, ingénues and legends (Burr 31). Burr makes sure to give some examples of
especially famous stars that he has interviewed to further provide credibility. Some include: Steve
Carell, Laura Linney, and Kevin Spacey (Burr 33). Throughout his essay, Burr takes a position of
authority on the subject and writes with intense confidence in his knowledge. Furthermore, readers
swiftly realize that Burr has done plenty of research to make readers ponder their position. By proving
his credibility, Burr quickly and efficiently snatches the reader s attention and gives them a reason to
want to continue reading.
Using a long string of logic, Burr s writing is primarily the history of America s cultural obsession
with celebrities. While his logic is simple to understand, it is absolutely intelligible. Although he
doesn t provide nearly enough hardcore facts, Burr makes sure to include a few facts in an effort to
further his point. For instance, he draws attention to the fact that the man who shot and killed John
Lennon...made sure to get his autograph first

A Short Note On Opioid Control And Opioid Controlled Drug
Diamorphine is used for pain control and known as an opioid Controlled Drug [CD], acting by
blocking pain signals to the brain (BNF, 2015; NICE, 2016). Opioid medication is licenced for the
management of moderate to severe pain however, long term use can cause reliance of the drug yet
when used to treat a terminal illness, there are no restrictions (Knott, 2013; Nice, 2016). Morphine s
most common side effects include nausea and vomiting, sedation, constipation, hypotension and
sweating however, it can cause hallucinations which are important in the management of anxiety in
palliative care (Everyday Health, 2016; Mann Carr, 2009). Diamorphine causes less nausea and
hypotension than morphine and the focus in palliative care is pain management which is more
effective when avoiding pain, than in the relief of pain (Cancer Research UK, 2015).
Levomepromazine is Prescription Only Medication [POM] usually known as an antipsychotic drug
{tranquillizer} however, it can also be used as an antiemetic drug to control nausea and vomiting
(BNF, 2015; NHS Scotland, 2014). There are many antiemetic drugs used to treat nausea and vomiting
however, some work on the brain by stopping the stimulation of the vomiting centre, whilst others
work on the gut emptying the stomach contents at a faster rate (Macmillan Cancer Support, 2013). An
antiemetic drug is chosen according to the causes of the vomiting and in Jacobs s case it is a known

cd r or tape, since both bands have an open taping policy at their concerts. By doing this, Phish and the
Dead opened up a new hobby; and other bands have gone along with open taping (e.g. Dave Matthews

Although these two bands do similar things with their music, the music itself is considerably different.
I think the reason Phish is labeled Children of the Dead is because of their early years playing small
gigs at Nector s bar in Vermont. They were just starting out, and did not have enough original songs to
have a complete set list. This forced Phish to do many cover songs. Mike Gordon (bassist), the only
real Dead fan in Phish coaxed his fellow band mates to cover some Grateful Dead tunes, along with
covers from other various artists and their own originals. The Dead songs were played on very few

The Racism Of Young Men Essay
Since junior high, I have always been curious as to why males felt the need to carry a tough façade.
This unauthentic behavior persuaded me to view the documentary, The Mask You Live In. Certainly,
after watching The Mask You Live In, my curiosity in men unnecessary macho persona; was relieved.
For years, I wondered, why are most males so aggressive? Why are some vulgarly forward while
flirting with women? What is wrong with men? Overall, I never could grasp why most had a really
challenging time fully expressing themselves. Whenever I would ask my male friends, their vague
response sounded like That is just how we are , as if there were innately programed for emotional
disconnect. Of course, their response would cease to satisfy my itching ears. However, after watching
this documentary, the internalized oppression of young men was clearified. It noted that they were
generally forced to suppress their feelings as young as the tender age of five, simply to gain approval
from their fathers or peers. It was disheartening to see the great pressure boys experience, simply to
reach the title of being a man . What exactly is meant by the term, be a man ? Does it imply one s
ability to maintain a numbness to feminine equality or engaging in violent tendencies? The
documentary addressed the question and enlightened one on the damages that such a short phrase can
cause as a generational curse on manhood. The mask you live in, reflected the social context of

The Dystopian Society of Oceania in the Novel 1984 by...
Power over the mind and power over the past are both necessary to ensure power over the population.
Both language and power are crucial to controlling the population and since language has the power in
politics to mask the truth and mislead the public, one could use them both to increase public
awareness of this power. In the dystopian society of Oceania in George Orwell s novel 1984, Orwell
gives readers a glimpse at how power and language relationship can be used to gain control of the
public. In order to display one s dominance, power is the key factor that should be displayed to gain
control over the public. In the novel The Party has the power and control over the population. The
Party promulgates the idea that whatever government is in power has the power to control everything
that is, that was, and everything that ever will be. The Party seems to be imposing a tension between
two different types of discourse, or two different attitudes to the uses of language through which the
world is represented to the people of Oceania. Their slogan Who controls the past controls the future;
who controls the present controls the past, is a prime example of how they use language to control the
population (p.37). The Party use slogans such as big brother is watching to ensure that there is no
deviation from Big Brother s doctrine. This also gives the party a sort of god like power because it
seems as though they are always watching and will always know when someone sins. One

The program that I rely on for general keyboarding skills improvement is TypingWeb at
http://www.typingweb.com. Accounts on free, and I have set up a classroom portal that monitors
progress and shows student improvement.
One resource that I can use to plan for lessons differentiated by learning profiles in the Media Literacy
classroom is using software included with the computers. Our school purchased 25 Apple iMac
computers and we are all learning how to adapt the software programs we were using with the PCs
and make them work through the Apple environment. We stayed with the Microsoft Office for Mac
and even though the programs are somewhat compatible, redirecting interest to a new software
environment means letting students discover the passion in what works for them, and then passing the
information on through PowerPoint and other software application presentations.
Even though we develop lessons and classroom activities using differentiated instruction, as
Tomlinson (2005) emphasizes, it is not necessary to separate the categories in planning or instruction
according to readiness, interest, and learning profile, (p. 58). I would invite my

Terrorist Essay
The record of our nation s response to the threat of political violence is unfortunately one of repeated
infringements on the First Amendment and other constitutional principles. The Supreme Court has
acknowledged that history abundantly documents the tendency of Government has benevolent and
began its motives to show suspicion those who most fervently dispute its policies. This is by no means
a problem unique to the United States. Our constitutional commitment to political and religious
freedom has not protected us from recurring official abuses. With confounding regularity, our
government has, in the name of protecting national security, subverted the very rights and liberties
which make the defense of the Nation worthwhile. The Federal ... Show more content on

It resurrected guilt by association as a principle of criminal and immigration law. It created a special
court to use secret evidence to deport foreigners labeled as terrorists. It made support for the peaceful
humanitarian and political activities of selected foreign groups a crime. And it repealed a short lived
law forbidding the FBI from investigating First Amendment activities, opening the door once again to
politically focused FBI investigations. Perhaps the most troubling feature of the 1996 Act is its
resurrection of guilt by association, criminalizing humanitarian support to any group blacklisted as
terrorist. Under the 1996 Act, the Secretary of State may designate a foreign group as a terrorist
organization if she finds that the group engages in terrorist activity that threatens the security of
United States nationals or the national security of the United States. The Immigration and Nationality
Act defines terrorist activity to include virtually any use of force, and the Antiterrorism Act defines
national security as the national defense, foreign relations, or economic interests of the United States.
As a result, the Secretary of State can designate organizations that engage in both lawful and unlawful
activity, based on a determination that the group s activities threaten our foreign policy or economic
interests. Since courts are reluctant to second guess the Secretary of State on what threatens our
foreign policy, the

Sign Here If You Exist By Jill Sisson Quinn
Austrian British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein once said, The real question of life after death isn t
whether or not it exists, but even if it does what problem this really solves. The idea that death is
inevitable is well known by everyone, yet no one is certain as to what happens afterwards. Even
though the subject of life after death has been argued for centuries by many philosophers and
theologians. In the article Sign Here If You Exist, Jill Sisson Quinn adequately employs figurative
language, rhetoric questionings, and personal anecdotes to demonstrate a controversial argument on
the topic of life after death. In her article, Quinn uses multiple figurative languages to strengthen her
claim that life after death does not exist. This is a very opinionated piece therefore using figurative
language such as metaphors, simile, diction and symbols help enhance the validity of the author s
argument, while effectively giving her opinion to the readers in a subdued manner. Quinn s use of the
Ichneumon wasp as a symbol for the process of human life is a subtle way of writing it. Her article
starts off with a detailed description of the physical features of a Female Giant Ichneumon Wasp,
which then proceeds to a biology based background explanation on the specie. During her
descriptions, Quinn uses carefully chosen words that is meant to let the reader go beyond imagining
the wasp and to think of it as something more. She explains Her overall appearance of fragility the

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis Of George Orwell...
In Politics and the English Language , Orwell expresses his opinion on the downfall of the english
language. He explains how the english language becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts
are foolish (Orwell). The bad habits writers incorporate into their work spread into other forms of
writing, including political and economical works. Further into Orwell s passage, he explains how
these forms of bad writing can be fixed if someone wished to change it. The passages Orwell chooses
to include show the mental vices writers continually use and how future writes can avoid them. After
citing the passages, Orwell mentions how modern writers use dying metaphors, operators or verbal
false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words

The Baptism Debate
Often held as a rite of passage and entrance into the Christian church, baptism is much more than just
symbolic ritual. Baptism was commanded by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission recounted in the
book of Matthew. Even though we are simplistically called to be obedient by being baptized the
Christian church has long debated the aspects of this ordinance. Denominations are divided on the
basic meaning, types and modes of baptism even two thousand years after the founding of the
Christian church. Just as the other ordinance, the Lord s Supper, congregations find themselves at odd
with tradition, biblical interpretation and even individual understanding. However, the simple message
of this awe inspiring act can be explained out of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereafter, infant baptism became the norm. (Hammett, 2005, pg 269) Three arguments are often used
in support of infant baptism. The early church used the idea of household baptisms mentioned in the
book of Acts to support that entire families were baptized for the acceptance of faith by the parents of
the household. Other historians point to the Gospel encounter of children being brought to Jesus for
blessing and for Him to pray over the children. The last support can be found in the need of an act of
covenant being established as it once was in the Old Testament. In the time of Abraham young boys
were circumcised as a sign of the convent. In the New Testament infant baptism was used as that sign.
(Hammett, 2005 pg 269 270). Each of these were steeped further in tradition than biblical basis. The
New Testament points more specifically to believers baptism rather than infant baptism. As stated
earlier, baptism is a symbolic act of obedience representing a choice of salvation through Jesus Christ.
It is unreasonable to think that an infant would be able to make such a choice by itself. The parallel of
Abraham s covenant is also misapplied. Hammett points out, As circumcision was applied to Abraham
s physical seed under the old covenant, so baptism is to be applied to Abraham s spiritual seed under
the new covenant. But the spiritual seed of Abraham are thus of faith, which means that believers
should be baptized, which, they would

Research Paper On Rugby
Rugby Should be a School Sport Imagine it is a Friday night underneath the lights, in October, and
you are walking into a stadium packed with fans cheering. But the only noise you can hear is the
sound of your cleats hitting the pavement as you are marching up to the field, and the only thing you
see is the other team and the end zone. It is such a stimulating feeling, it is unforgettable. Now, you
may think I am talking about an American football game, but I am not. I am talking about a rugby
match. Believe it or not, football derived from rugby. Differences are in rugby, there are no pads, the
ball does not have laces, fifteen men to a side, and above all else, it is an international sport and it is
safe compared to football. How come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Barack Obama is worried about the future of the sport, he told interviewer Homa Khaleeli
with The Guardian. He said if he d had sons he would have thought long and hard before allowing
them to take up the national sport, insisting the game should become less violent, and adding that he
was particularly anxious about college players. (Khaleeli). One study that The Guardian used to
expose the trauma that football players receive is that out of 35 football players that was examined, 34
showed signs of brain trauma. In rugby, players are taught to use their arms to wrap a player s legs and
let the momentum of that player cause him to go to ground. Furthermore, in rugby there is no
blocking, and so players who don t have the ball don t get hit when they re not expecting it. (Micheli).
Lyle Micheli is a doctor of fifty years and played rugby himself, he stated the tackling technique that
is used in rugby because he wanted to expose that the technique is very different and much safer than
how football players tackle. To be sure, rugby players get lots of bloody noses, chipped teeth, broken
fingers but they like to show off these injuries, so one might come under the impression that rugby is a
very rough sport. (Mckenna). Jim Mckenna is a doctor and rugby coach. He brought up a valid point,
sure rugby

Mackie s Theory Of Moral Skepticism
Moral skepticism is defined as the denial of objective moral standards is correct, and that morality
therefore lacks any real authority (Shafer Landau). The concept of objectivity plays a part in the
theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception,
and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information.
An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely
associated with being reality and truth. Philosopher Mackie has a specific opinion on the ethical
theory called subjectivism or moral skepticism that discusses the falsehood of moral claims. Mackie
developed the principle of subjectivism, which states that morals claims do not exist. There is nothing

Relativity is used to discuss that moral codes are diverse and differ from societies. This argument
starts with the view that moral opinions vary among many people. Since there is not a universal
agreement on values, then values can t be objective. He uses relativity in response to cultural
relativism and states that individuals and groups don t come to their values and reflect way of life;
people practice their way of life and then come to their values. Different morals come from different
ways of life instead of having different views on moral beliefs. With this being said, if objective
values aren t the reason for moral beliefs, then there is no reason to believe in ethical claims. The
argument of queerness can take form being metaphysical. The metaphysical concept states that if there
is such a thing of objective values, they wouldn t be like anything else. If these values were to exist,
they would be really queer and unusual. If objective values did occur, one would need a unique, moral
sense, but ultimately objective values can t exist since they can t be

Main Methods Of Measuring Astronomical Distances
Main methods of measuring astronomical distances:
Scientist used different type to find the astronomical distances. Cosmic distance ladder is used to find
the astronomical distances, which includes five different methods to find the astronomical distances.
Radar ranging:
Radar ranging is used to find the distance of the planets which are near. This method works by striking
a beam of radio waves towards the object, the radio waves after striking the object will come back as
echo. So, the time taken by the radio waves to come back in the form of echo can be used to find the
distance of the object.
Parallax:
Parallax is used to find the distances of the stars which are near. This method works by measuring the
distance of object from two different positions. First you measure the distance of the star from a
specific position and then after six months when the earth is on the opposite direction of the sun we
measure the distance of the star again. At that position, the star appears to move slightly than last. The
parallax angle the star makes can be used to find the distance of the star through the help of
trigonometry.
Main sequence fitting:
Main sequence fitting method is used to find the distance of the clusters of the stars. Clusters is group
of stars which are next to each other. This process works by finding the apparent magnitude of the
cluster from the earth. Then, we find the distance of the exact distance through the help of parallax
methods. This distance of the

The New Orleans Jazz And Music
I got the chance to attend the Jazzy Stars late concert at the Acme Lounge in the Arts and
Entertainment district in Miami, Florida. The band that performed was called Lemon City Trio.
Lemon City Trio has three bands members that go by the names Brian Robertson, Nick Tannura, and
Aaron Glueckauf. The jazz concert consisted of two sets of ten songs that lasted for about two hours.
Brian Robertson played the organ, Nick Tannura played guitar, and Aaron Glueckauf played drums.
This was the first live concert of any genre that I got to attend.
The Lemon City Trio sound consists of funk, jazz, R B, and hip hop meshed together. I could connect
to their music because their music included genre sounds that I listen to on an everyday basis. The ...

The last cover was a song by Al Green called I m Still in Love With You . The dynamics for this song
was interesting to me. They alternated from crescendos and decrescendos throughout this song, which
made the song a little bit more interesting. Everyone had a solo in this song. The organ player s solo
was the best one to me because he played so fast at times even though the tempo of this song was
mostly slow. This was my least favorite song of the set because I felt as though this song had more
minor keys than major keys.
The remaining songs in the concerts were original songs that the band wrote and songs that were
coming out on their debut EP. The first original song played was the song Same Old Thing . This song
had a polyphonic texture between the guitar and the piano and had a fast tempo. One of the motifs in
this song was very catchy and was repeated a couple times. This song was short and had a steady
rhythm. The dynamics of this song were good because the tones were not too soft or too loud. The
melody had a bright and warm mood that matched the atmosphere of the club. All the instruments
blended beautifully which resulted in a great harmony. I felt like the drumming on this song made the
song complete.
The timbre in the song Flying Free was bright and had a smooth flow. I liked how the melody repeated
a couple times in this song. The guitar solo in this

  • 2. Different Types Of Groups Formed For Particular Purposes For every organization, there are different types of groups formed for particular purposes. The most common groups are; formal, informal, command groups and committees. For this particular task, the group was a committee made up of members from different departments within the company. The key players in the committee were drawn from the human resource (HR) assistants/specialists, the HR management, and the hospital director along with other senior hospital administrators. The members mentioned above of the committee where called to discuss and assess issues regarding the reason for the occasional delay in background check investigations within the organization which caused a delay in the hiring process. Members of the management department handle issues regarding how to better manage this process; human resource specialist were called to handle the logistical issues and the assistants handle issues of suppliers and customer while members of the management provide direction and inputs in case of disagreements. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the reason behind the delay in completing background investigations, which had been undergoing problems in recent times. The meeting was meant to figure out what was causing delays in the completion of background checks and find solutions to ensure that the issues were thoroughly dealt with and a lasting solution adopted. Coming Of Age In Mississippi Analysis In the chapter Coming of Age in Mississippi; Anne Moody had always heard about so many people shot dead floating down the river but she never really knew why. She overheard a little about Emmett Till s death as her and her friends were following behind a group of boy s on their way home from school. She thought they were unusually quiet until they started shouting about a fourteen year old boy that got killed by white men because he whistled at her. Mrs. Burke also asked her about the boy and told her, He was killed because he got out of his place with a white woman. (1) She then went to her teacher Mrs. Rice for questions and found out about Emmett till s case. Anne s mother said that an evil spirit killed Emmett Till because the white ... One mistake, one look, one word, it takes one wrong move to get you killed. Anne lied when Mrs. Burke asked her about Emmett Till s death; one because she was a very scary woman, and two she remembers her mother telling her to do her work like she doesn t know anything. Her mother knew better, she knew that Anne would be in big trouble if she said anything to Mrs. Burke about what happened. I guess back then, staying quiet and acting like you don t know anything is better than disappearing. According to Mrs. Burke, Emmett Till had to die because he was a very disrespectful boy that got out of his place with a white woman. He was from up North so she said that the Negro men were more disrespectful up north than there in the south. • 4. Opal Mining Of Australi The Mining Capital Of The World Opal Mining in Australia Australia contains a lot of opal, especially in South Australia producing an estimated 95 97% of the world s opal supply. All of the opal mines in Australia are located in the Artesian Basin which contains many mining towns such as Lightning Ridge, Andamooka, White Cliffs and Coober Pedy, which has been called the mining capital of the world. All of these towns are situated in Australia s outback, the land mostly consisting of barren dry rock and dirt. But hiding in the endless dusty land and rocks are masses of Opal. Coober Pedy, Lightning Ridge, and Andamooka are home to many Opal mines, most of which are underground mines. The whole of Coober Pedy has many underground mines for opals extending out 40kms around the town with over 200,000 mine shafts which can be up to 27m deep. Andamooka another prominent mining town has 52km2 of mines both underground and open mines, three to ten meters deep into the seabed. In all of these rural mining towns there is not that much infrastructure due to the small populations and most residents will either be in the mining or tourism industry. This is good for mining as more of the land is able to use to mine the opals. In Coober Pedy a lot of residents live in underground homes called dugouts because of the harsh hot weather in Coober Pedy. This meant that there was no concern for the underground mines as they did not interfere with residential living space, in fact many homes were made out of old mines. There ... • 5. What Was Paul s Response Of The 1st Century Circumcision... Armand Jeffris Daise RELG 204 May 2nd, 2016 Final Exam 1. Paul and Gnosticism. What was Paul s response to the 1st century circumcision controversy? What were the characteristic features (beliefs practices) of Gnostic Christianity? And in your judgment, can either viewpoint (or both) be considered orthodox over against the other? Throughout the early history of Christianity, disputes broke out over mosaic law, particularly in the mid first century when the issue of circumcision, cutting off the foreskin of a man s penis, was a heavily debated and a recurring issue among different churches and members of the church. Many Christians believed that following the mosaic law, which included the act of circumcision, was no longer required for salvation as having faith and accepting Jesus as the messiah would be enough. Others, on the other hand, believed that requirements set forth in the mosaic law were still necessary to be saved. These people were negatively branded with the name Judaizers (those who believed that all Christians should follow the Law of Moses), and were often criticized for being discriminatory and elitist. A meeting was then held to discuss the whether the application of the mosaic law to new members of the Christian community, particularly focusing on if those trying to convert, were obliged undergo circumcision to be accepted into, and become part of, the Christian community. The apostolic decree of the council of Jerusalem moved away from its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Child Behavior And Language Assessment The postulate we chose to research is from the social participation frame of reference. It states that if routine is provided for difficult or disorganizing activities, children will develop calmer and more cooperative behaviors during those activities (Olson, 2010). When researching for an article that either supported or refuted the postulate, Family Centered Intervention for Young Children at risk for Language and Behavior Problems was found. The study was initiated by dividing forty one randomly selected children, ages 3 5 years, with potential language and behavioral difficulties into a control group or intervention group receiving adult support (Chao, Bryan, Burstein, Ergul, 2006). The purpose was to explore the impact parent involvement and routines have on the development of socially acceptable behavior and language in children (Chao et al., 2006). Parents were asked to rate various aspects of their child, such as motor skills and behavior, then decide activities in the Child Behavior and Language Assessment (CBLA) to focus on and review intermittently in a log to help conclude if the intervention was beneficial or not (Chao et al., 2006). The intervention was based on the reviews and opinions of the parents and occasional professional observation. CBLA is comprised of assessments of children s language and behavior, and routine based activities assisting the establishment of language and ideal behavior (Chao et al., 2006). The ... Qin Shi Huang preferred to focus on connecting his empire instead of building relationships with outsiders. In his rule, he commissioned many beneficial building projects such as vast road systems, and complex irrigation projects. The feud the Qin had against the Xiongu continued into the Han dynasty. Early Han leaders preferred to gift the Xiongu with extravagant gifts to persuade them from taking Han land. However, in 140BC, Emperor Wu became emperor of China. He would completely revolutionize China s foreign relations and trade economy. Wu set up colonies to force the Xiongu out of their land and started alliances with local leaders. A Report Card For Yankton School District For the first project requirements, I collected data for the Yankton School District and the Mitchell School District from the South Dakota Department of Education s website. I specifically looked at each district s report card that included performance indicators, school performance index, staffing and student population statistics, attendance numbers and high school completion and college and career readiness statistics. Each school district s report card contained further detailed information and percentages regarding test scores in math, ELA, and science. After collecting and organizing the data from the district report card for Yankton School District, one of the most interesting trends I found was the difference in scores between 2013 and 2014. For the years 2012 and 2013, scores were reported on four levels: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, and Advanced. Then in 2014, the scores were reported on a new leveling system including the four levels: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. When reviewing the different levels, I compared Level 1 to Below Basic. In 2013 for the 6th grade class, out of 190 students, 0.53% of those students scored at the Below Basic level in math. However, in 2014 for the 6th grade class, out of 166 students, 32.32% of those students scored at Level 1. Even when evaluating the same group of students, the 7th grade class for 2014, I noticed a rather large increase as well, with 23.30% of 209 students scoring at the Level 1. I found a similar ... • 12. Summary OfThe Dying Negro By Aphra Behn s Oroonoko Aphra Behn s Oroonoko and The Dying Negro by John Bicknell and Thomas Day are two texts that have shaped the way British authors capture the slave narrative. Both texts were written by white, British people. Both texts have the tendency to ignore the actual issue that is slavery. Oroonoko, or The Royal Slave and The Dying Negro utilize the theme of the noble savage to present pro slavery and oppressive ideas through an abolitionist text. In The Emergence of Modern Racism: First Stage Cornel West writes: The recovery of classical antiquity...produced what I shall call a normative gaze; namely, an ideal from which to offer and compare observations. This idea was drawn primarily from classical aesthetic values of beauty, proportion, and human form and classical cultural standards of moderation, self control, and harmony (97). Behn s Oroonooko cannot be classified as an anti slavery text because it stills depicts a form of oppression. The narrator does have a negative view on slavery, but one of the only reasons it is accepting of the narrator is because he fits into the European stand of beauty. Behn writes: The most famous statuary could not form the figure of a man more admirably turned from head to foot. His face was not that of brown, rusty black, which most of that nation are, but a perfect ebony or polished jet.... His nose was rising and roman instead of African and flat. Jessie Pope War Women Analysis Masculinity and Femininity in Jessie Pope s war poems: War Girls and The Call The world wars have greatly impacted modern British literature in the 20th century. There were many poems written about the period of war; some showed them in a positive light and some negative. Gender roles, gender relations on what means to be a man or a woman impacted greatly during this time. In particular with World War I, women in large numbers took over jobs in the homeland while the men were out fighting. Questions on what is femininity and what is masculinity were on the rise. Men were constantly fed with the idea that they should be drafted into the war. This propaganda was seen everywhere during this era due to the self interests of the British ... That is not the whole story because in the 5th line, this gender is called Strong, sensible, and fit, This stands out in the poem as it follows the rule of 3 of a poem to describe the qualities of the new woman now. It is controversial to the usual perspective of a woman since these adjectives are associated with a man more than a woman. This exhibits that the typical views of what femininity is changed during the wartime. The usage of the word grit in line 6 is also a word associated with masculinity but it is used in the poem to describe women. The poem also shows femininity to be related to toil because Pope mentions a girl who does a milk round in the rain (3). The physical hard work of the woman is to be revered according to Pope. The imagery of not being caged or penned up anymore (7) is a strong one it explains that the war brought redemption and freedom to women. A definitive declarative statement is made in the 9th line of the poem, They re going to make their end up , Pope is manifesting her confidence in the women of Britain who are serving their country by being the workforce. The shift in the gender roles is empowering for women during the wartime and Pope associates this with patriotism as well. Rather than people driving the car, this new car will be driven by a computer or technology. This car could be beneficial to society because of its ability to safely and quickly navigate itself without any distractions. But because this car is based fully on technology, the probability the car could malfunction and lead to more deaths is larger than the average non autonomous car. One time, I was stopped at an intersection and a car ran the red light and t boned an oncoming vehicle. The man claimed he had a failure in his automatic braking system, and he was unable to brake at the red light. This represented the harsh reality technology is not always reliable. Driverless cars are not beneficial to society because the cars have a negative effect on the safety and the economy in the community. Autonomous cars are not profitable to society because not only do they put the driver at risk, but they also put pedestrians at risk. Although non autonomous cars have a chance of being hacked, driverless cars will have less of opportunity for a passenger to correct any errors (Haines). With the inability to correct a hacked car, the roads become a very dangerous place for pedestrians and other drivers because this car will be travelling at rapid speeds with no one at the wheel. • 18. The Effect Of Temperature On Surface Chemistry 3. Theoretical Background 3.1 Surface Chemistry Weather a surface is hydrophobic or hydrophilic largely depends upon surface chemistry. Each and every surface has energy which is proportional to area .For liquids surface tension is identical to surface energy. And we know everything moves towards reducing its energy therefore drops tend to be spherical. But what about droplets on a solid surface. Drops form an inverted cup like structure and the angle made by drop surface with the solid surface is called the contact angle. Every surface has Surface Energy. There is surface energy or surface tension between air solid liquid. Contact angle is defined as the equilibrium angle made by liquid surface with the solid surface.Young s equation describes the force balance between the interfacial tensions formed at the solid liquid vapor contact line. 3.2 Contact Angle When a drop of liquid is placed onto a solid surface, it forms a so called contact angle (θ). The Young s equation for the contact angle of a liquid can be applied only to a flat surface and not to a rough one. The contact angle of a liquid on a perfectly smooth and chemically homogeneous solid surface is given by Young s equation : cos θ = ( σsg σsl )/ σlg where σsg, σsl and σlgare the interfacial tensions of the solid vapor, solid liquid and the liquid vapor interface respectively . From the above Youngs equation we can find the angle which the liquid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They also collect their favorite shows on cd r or tape, since both bands have an open taping policy at their concerts. By doing this, Phish and the Dead opened up a new hobby; and other bands have gone along with open taping (e.g. Dave Matthews Band, Moe., Bela Fleck). Although these two bands do similar things with their music, the music itself is considerably different. I think the reason Phish is labeled Children of the Dead is because of their early years playing small gigs at Nector s bar in Vermont. They were just starting out, and did not have enough original songs to have a complete set list. This forced Phish to do many cover songs. Mike Gordon (bassist), the only real Dead fan in Phish coaxed his fellow band mates to cover some Grateful Dead tunes, along with covers from other various artists and their own originals. The Dead songs were played on very few occasions, and the songs were Fire on the Mountain and Scarlet Begonias (commonly known as Fire*Scarlet). After a while people started calling Phish a Grateful Dead cover band, even though they covered a few Dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Racism Of Young Men Essay Since junior high, I have always been curious as to why males felt the need to carry a tough façade. This unauthentic behavior persuaded me to view the documentary, The Mask You Live In. Certainly, after watching The Mask You Live In, my curiosity in men unnecessary macho persona; was relieved. For years, I wondered, why are most males so aggressive? Why are some vulgarly forward while flirting with women? What is wrong with men? Overall, I never could grasp why most had a really challenging time fully expressing themselves. Whenever I would ask my male friends, their vague response sounded like That is just how we are , as if there were innately programed for emotional disconnect. Of course, their response would cease to satisfy my itching ears. However, after watching this documentary, the internalized oppression of young men was clearified. It noted that they were generally forced to suppress their feelings as young as the tender age of five, simply to gain approval from their fathers or peers. It was disheartening to see the great pressure boys experience, simply to reach the title of being a man . What exactly is meant by the term, be a man ? Does it imply one s ability to maintain a numbness to feminine equality or engaging in violent tendencies? The documentary addressed the question and enlightened one on the damages that such a short phrase can cause as a generational curse on manhood. • 41. The Dystopian Society of Oceania in the Novel 1984 by... Power over the mind and power over the past are both necessary to ensure power over the population. Both language and power are crucial to controlling the population and since language has the power in politics to mask the truth and mislead the public, one could use them both to increase public awareness of this power. In the dystopian society of Oceania in George Orwell s novel 1984, Orwell gives readers a glimpse at how power and language relationship can be used to gain control of the public. In order to display one s dominance, power is the key factor that should be displayed to gain control over the public. In the novel The Party has the power and control over the population. The Party promulgates the idea that whatever government is in power has the power to control everything that is, that was, and everything that ever will be. The Party seems to be imposing a tension between two different types of discourse, or two different attitudes to the uses of language through which the world is represented to the people of Oceania. Their slogan Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past, is a prime example of how they use language to control the population (p.37). The Party use slogans such as big brother is watching to ensure that there is no deviation from Big Brother s doctrine. This also gives the party a sort of god like power because it seems as though they are always watching and will always know when someone sins. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Resources for Differentiated Instruction Introduction As described by Hall, Strangman, Meyer (2011), differentiated instruction [DI] allows teachers to build flexibility into their approach and understanding in adapting curriculum to the needs of the student, instead of requiring students to apply modifications they may be ill equipped to complete (p. 2). In the alternative classroom, with a majority of students ELLs, teachers can adapt DI to set lesson and curriculum goals through a range of instructional and management strategies to engage students through curiosity, promote understanding, and clarify understanding to incorporate learning in the classroom (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010a; Laureate Education, Inc., 2010b). This is by no means a problem unique to the United States. Our constitutional commitment to political and religious freedom has not protected us from recurring official abuses. Perhaps the most troubling feature of the 1996 Act is its resurrection of guilt by association, criminalizing humanitarian support to any group blacklisted as terrorist. Under the 1996 Act, the Secretary of State may designate a foreign group as a terrorist organization if she finds that the group engages in terrorist activity that threatens the security of United States nationals or the national security of the United States. The Immigration and Nationality Act defines terrorist activity to include virtually any use of force, and the Antiterrorism Act defines national security as the national defense, foreign relations, or economic interests of the United States. Sign Here If You Exist By Jill Sisson Quinn Austrian British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein once said, The real question of life after death isn t whether or not it exists, but even if it does what problem this really solves. The idea that death is inevitable is well known by everyone, yet no one is certain as to what happens afterwards. Even though the subject of life after death has been argued for centuries by many philosophers and theologians. In the article Sign Here If You Exist, Jill Sisson Quinn adequately employs figurative language, rhetoric questionings, and personal anecdotes to demonstrate a controversial argument on the topic of life after death. In her article, Quinn uses multiple figurative languages to strengthen her claim that life after death does not exist. This is a very opinionated piece therefore using figurative language such as metaphors, simile, diction and symbols help enhance the validity of the author s argument, while effectively giving her opinion to the readers in a subdued manner. Quinn s use of the Ichneumon wasp as a symbol for the process of human life is a subtle way of writing it. Her article starts off with a detailed description of the physical features of a Female Giant Ichneumon Wasp, which then proceeds to a biology based background explanation on the specie. Baptism was commanded by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission recounted in the book of Matthew. Even though we are simplistically called to be obedient by being baptized the Christian church has long debated the aspects of this ordinance. Denominations are divided on the basic meaning, types and modes of baptism even two thousand years after the founding of the Christian church. (Hammett, 2005, pg 269) Three arguments are often used in support of infant baptism. The early church used the idea of household baptisms mentioned in the book of Acts to support that entire families were baptized for the acceptance of faith by the parents of the household. Other historians point to the Gospel encounter of children being brought to Jesus for blessing and for Him to pray over the children. The last support can be found in the need of an act of covenant being established as it once was in the Old Testament. In the time of Abraham young boys were circumcised as a sign of the convent. In the New Testament infant baptism was used as that sign. (Hammett, 2005 pg 269 270). Each of these were steeped further in tradition than biblical basis. The New Testament points more specifically to believers baptism rather than infant baptism. As stated earlier, baptism is a symbolic act of obedience representing a choice of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is unreasonable to think that an infant would be able to make such a choice by itself. The parallel of Abraham s covenant is also misapplied. Hammett points out, As circumcision was applied to Abraham s physical seed under the old covenant, so baptism is to be applied to Abraham s spiritual seed under the new covenant. The concept of objectivity plays a part in the theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception, and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information. An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely associated with being reality and truth. Cosmic distance ladder is used to find the astronomical distances, which includes five different methods to find the astronomical distances. Radar ranging: Radar ranging is used to find the distance of the planets which are near. This method works by striking a beam of radio waves towards the object, the radio waves after striking the object will come back as echo. So, the time taken by the radio waves to come back in the form of echo can be used to find the distance of the object. Parallax: Parallax is used to find the distances of the stars which are near. This method works by measuring the distance of object from two different positions. First you measure the distance of the star from a specific position and then after six months when the earth is on the opposite direction of the sun we measure the distance of the star again. At that position, the star appears to move slightly than last. The parallax angle the star makes can be used to find the distance of the star through the help of trigonometry. Main sequence fitting: Main sequence fitting method is used to find the distance of the clusters of the stars. Clusters is group of stars which are next to each other. This process works by finding the apparent magnitude of the cluster from the earth. Then, we find the distance of the exact distance through the help of parallax methods. This distance of the ...
