However, by the late 1980s and early 1990s, behavioral researchers like Paul Salkovskis and Jack
Rachman were advocating a more integrative theory and treatment of OCD, an approach that
amalgamated the behavioral treatment of OCD with Beck s (1976) cognitive theory of
emotional disorders. From these two theoretical perspectives on clinical disorders, a new
cognitive behavioral approach to obsessions and compulsions was born. In many respects, my
own professional development has taken a path similar to that seen in cognitive behavioral
therapy (CBT) for obsessional states. My roots are in the behavioral tradition, dating back to the
early 1980s when I was a graduate student at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, England. My
interest in OCD and unwanted intrusive thoughts was sparked by the stimulating discussions and
innovative research of the clinical faculty, most notably Jack Rachman and Padmal de Silva. My
doctoral thesis on the psychophysiology of mental control and unwanted intrusive thoughts was
an outgrowth of their insights into the pathology of obsessional thought. vii viii Preface In the

Racial Profiling And The United States
Racial profiling remains a dormant issue in the United States. It is the act of the authority, mostly,
police officers linking minority status to criminal behaviour (Glover, 2007). Several police officers
in the United States target specific groups because they don t display characteristics of typical
Caucasian individuals (Glover, 2007). To put history into context, before 9/11, not many police
officers profiled individuals based on their ethnic backgrounds but after the attack, there was an
increase in racial profiling(Harris, 2006). A racial profiling method that became prevalent in the
1980s in the United Stateswas administered by the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration.
Operation Pipeline was a program that they launched to help police officers catch drug
traffickers (Harris, 2006). In a video, they taught police officers to look for clues that would help

police officers should do if they saw an African man driving around a white community. Frank

Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus
The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the
years. Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed
within a jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the
portraits and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention
they so rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider
artistic context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It
will also highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet
light, which has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been
