Use of social networks continues to rise and over the last
few years, there’s been a permanent shift in how we
think about the neighborhood. Everyone belongs to a
neighborhood and 73% of people say that neighbors are
one of the most important communities in their lives.* As
the world re-emerges, social platforms can rebuild the
divide it created between online and IRL. As the
neighborhood network, Nextdoor connects a highly-
engaged local audience and fosters a sense of belonging.
Learn how technology and purpose are building active,
engaged communities to create a kinder world, both
online and offline. We’ll discuss Nextdoor's efforts to use
predictive technology and machine learning to encourage
more neighborly interactions on the platform, minimizing
the prevalence of keyboard warriors.

Neighborhood Vitality Advisory Board
● Introduced the Kindness Reminder in 2019 and Anti-Racism
Notification in 2021
● Released the inaugural Transparency Report in February
○ Kindness Reminder – on average 34.6% of the time,
neighbors edited or withheld their post or comment
○ Anti-Racism Reminder - on average 34.4% of the time,
neighbors edited or withheld their post or comment
● Recently named one of TIME100 Most Influential Companies
because of our efforts to promote neighborhood vitality
● This is our first step into predictive
technology — The ML model considers the
full conversation rather than individual
comments
● A reminder will pop up before a neighbor
writes a comment with tips on how to set
the tone for a more empathetic discussion
