DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MASS MEDIA
& MASS COMMUNICATION
• Mass Media is the collection of the means that big
media outlets use to distribute their media content,
so basically the different types of mass media; e.g.
television broadcasting, print newspaper, radio
broadcasting and so on.
• On the other hand mass communication is the study
on how these types work,basically,thinking about
how radio or TV stations communicate their content
with the consumer.

• Hyper Media is not constrained to be text-based. It can
include other media, e.g., graphics, images, and especially
the continuous media - sound and video. Apparently, Ted

• The World Wide Web (WWW) is the best example of
hypermedia applications.

Multimedia
• Linear : Wikipedia is linear multimedia as it
doesn’t allow for much interaction, it is mainly
used for conveying information.
• Exp :
• Non Linear : Skype is a non-linear multimedia
as it allows for user input and has interactivity.
Skype consists of; video, audio, interactivity,
image and text multimedia.

Advantage & Disadvantages of Linear
Multimedia
• Advantages
• Audience gets to focus and concentrate on a specific topic.
• There is logical order in the presentation. Organized
• Presenter controls the flow of the presentation
• Effective when we need our audience to absorb the
information well
• Disadvantages
• Minimal interactivity, or none at all
• Audience has no say on the topic they want to dwell into.
