#SH2015 Day 3: Deeper (with @krishk & @drbexl)Bex Lewis
The document discusses being rooted in love through the Holy Spirit. It explores what it means to be filled by the Spirit, including when believers receive the Spirit, whether being filled is a separate experience, and what are the signs of being filled. The document emphasizes that without the Spirit, believers do not have Christ, cannot please God, will not be transformed, and fail to experience life to the full. It encourages finding more slides on being rooted deeper in faith.
1. The document discusses how false doctrines and teachings come from deceiving spirits and demons, not from God, and urges believers to test all teachings against Scripture.
2. It notes that people who fall away from faith do so because they listen to these deceiving spirits instead of God. Their consciences become "seared" so they feel no guilt in spreading lies.
3. Any view that contradicts Scripture has a demonic, not human, source. While people spread these lies, the real teachers are seducing spirits using people as mouthpieces to propagate their deception.

Session 1 Equipping the Church in the WorkplaceOs Hillman
This document discusses equipping Christians for ministry in the workplace. It begins by introducing the author Os Hillman and his role as a pastor to over 150,000 people across 104 countries through daily 2-minute sermons. It then discusses how the modern church often fails to equip believers for their daily work, which was a major focus of Jesus' and Paul's ministries. The bulk of the document examines biblical concepts of work, tracing distortions around sacred vs secular work back to the 4th and 12th centuries. It argues that all work can be ministry and worship when done with excellence for God rather than men. The document aims to shift perspectives on the importance and spiritual nature of the workplace as the primary location where Christians interact with
This document discusses the profound impact that fathers can have on their children's development and future success. Children learn virtues like temperance, prudence, and justice from their father's example and teaching. Studies show children are more likely to attend church and avoid risky behaviors if their father is religiously active. The story of Pope John Paul II's spiritual friendship with Lino Zani is presented, showing how the Pope helped convert Zani from a playboy lifestyle to marriage and family through his example of prayer and sanctity. The document advocates that fathers make and follow a structured daily plan that includes time for work, prayer, recreation, and interacting with others

It describes the confrontational style which directly presents the law and gospel message, the conversational style which focuses on developing friendships as a way to naturally share the gospel, the collegiate style which provides rational arguments for the Christian faith, the conformational style of sharing one's personal testimony, and the come and see style which invites unchurched people to church events to encounter the gospel. The pastor's role is to equip Christians in these various styles and provide opportunities for evangelism in the congregation.

This document provides guidance on how to give God glory. It discusses that God's glory is the manifestation of all his attributes, such as his holiness, mercy, justice, faithfulness and love. To glorify God is to praise and exalt his attributes. The document also explains that the supreme purpose of life is to glorify God, and that doing so leads to our greatest joy, as God offers himself as the one who can satisfy and make us happy. We should glorify God through living testimonies that magnify him before others. In glorifying God, we are enhancing his reputation rather than adding to his intrinsic nature.
1) God's glory refers both to His intrinsic attributes as well as the glory ascribed to Him by His creatures. We give God glory by recognizing and praising His attributes such as holiness, mercy, justice, faithfulness and more.
2) The primary purpose for humanity is to glorify God in all that we do. We glorify Him by magnifying His greatness before the world through our words and actions.
3) We should give God glory because He created us and everything else for His purposes. Since He made us and gives us all things, we ought to praise and honor Him with our lives.

This document discusses salvation through Jesus Christ from several perspectives:
- Jesus is the author and perfecter of our salvation, laying the foundation through his death and resurrection.
- He is the cornerstone and bridegroom who establishes our relationship with God and ensures our destiny is transformation into his image.
- However, many conceive of Jesus in a man-made rather than biblical way, exchanging the truth about him for a culturally and politically correct version that cannot fulfill our deepest needs or be the solid foundation for our lives. To find true salvation we must turn from false comforts and accept the biblical Jesus who alone can reconcile us to God through his atoning death on the cross.
God's wrath, God's Will - Jesus Christ, God's Will - Church God's Will - The...franktsao4
The descent of the plague this time was large, violent, and wide-ranging, showing the wrath of God, but why is God so wrathful? If we put ourselves in the perspective of God, He sent Jesus Christ to pave the way for us to live a true and living eternal life. The price is the life of His single beloved Son. He established the church. He hope the church can continue to carry out this mission. However, is the church obeying God's command? And does the church interpret the Bible in accordance with God's will? Do those who participate in the church have salvation? If the answer to the above is no, it is no wonder that God is so angry.

This document discusses new media evangelism and how Christians can share their faith online. Effective digital evangelism involves being authentic, listening well, sharing one's own faith story, and seeing it as one link in a broader process, not the whole gospel or dependent on one's actions alone. The document provides tips on creating a sense of community and sharing online in a way that reflects biblical values and the fruits of the spirit.
Discusses how the Christian worldview provides resources for affirming the dignity of work; guiding one's ethical decisions in work; reforming your vocation to have a Biblical perspective on humanity & creation; finding balance between work, rest, and other responsibilities; and showing how work has eternal value and reward.

The overall message is that Christians are called to live out their faith online as they do offline, bringing light and hope to digital communities.
This document contains a summary of a discussion on social media and Christianity. It includes links to various blogs and websites on topics like online pastoral care, cyberbullying, social activism, living sustainably, and building positive online communities. Quotes within encourage taking risks for one's faith, caring for others online, and using social media to make a positive impact.
This document provides a summary of a sermon given on John 10 about Jesus being the true shepherd. The sermon discusses how Jesus died for his sheep in the New Testament, unlike Old Testament shepherds where the sheep died for the shepherd. It also references the resurrection of Lazarus as glorifying God and strengthening the disciples' faith. The sermon argues Christians should live abundant, victorious lives through Christ rather than in self-effort, and that God desires to use believers in powerful ways like He used Lazarus.
Discipleship and Journeying in a Digital Age for #GB14 Worship SessionBex Lewis
30 minute worship session, Treehouse, 9am Saturday 23rd August.
A disciple is one who seeks to follow Jesus, grow in faith, and model Christian living. We reflect upon how discipleship has been affected by ‘a digital age’: has the medium and/or the message changed? We reflect on how it has offered space to journey together, to share our stories, and to encourage one another.
This document contains excerpts from a talk given by Tim Keller at the New York Summer Conference in 2012. The passages discuss the idea that work should be seen as worship to God rather than something that is just "secular." It emphasizes that Christians should allow the gospel to shape how they approach their work with distinction, rather than conforming to prevailing worldviews. The talk encourages Christians to thoughtfully engage culture rather than ignore, assimilate to, or despise it. It also provides "Rules of Engagement" for how Christians can lovingly share their faith.

This document discusses what community means for the Duluth Benedictine Oblates. It describes community as a group of people joined by a single hope and method of seeking God under a rule and leader, accepting differences. Key practices that unite the community are common prayer, eating together at a shared table with suitable but not lavish provisions, and common ownership of property to use but not own. The document emphasizes developing relationships based on love, respect, bearing with one another's frailties, and choosing the unity of the community over individual wants by giving recalcitrant members chances to return and prioritizing the good of all.

This document reflects on the passage from John 12:24 "Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just wheat." It uses images from Vincent Van Gogh's paintings of wheat fields to illustrate the concept of a grain of wheat dying in order to produce more wheat. The document reflects on Jesus' words that a grain must fall and die to bear much fruit, and how Van Gogh's paintings depict the growth of wheat from seed to harvest.

This document discusses silence and solitude based on a presentation to Benedictine Oblates. It covers how silence is addressed in the Rule of St. Benedict and references to solitude. It also discusses using solitude for spiritual preparation and avoiding isolation. Monks are encouraged to gradually counteract social withdrawal by connecting with others, while also finding solitude to pray alone without disturbing others.
Psalmody refers to the singing or recitation of psalms. The psalms make up the first book of the Hebrew Bible and are an anthology of 150 individual psalms divided into five sections. They were used in ancient Jewish worship and temple liturgies and were incorporated into early Christian worship. Reciting the psalms is intended to be a daily spiritual practice for formation, praise, thanksgiving, and meditating on God's presence in the world. The genres of individual psalms, like praise, lament, and hymns, can guide different styles of personal and liturgical prayer.

"Silence" is often discussed as a core monastic practice, but St. Benedict's prescription for custody of the tongue focuses not only on refraining from speech but even more on how we care for community, for the other, and for ourselves when we do speak. This presentation, one in the series on Hard Sayings of St. Benedict, includes a careful study of the idea of custody. Given to the Oblates of St. Scholastica Monastery in 2017.
Stability is one of the three vows that Benedictine sisters and monks take. This presentation considers what this vow might mean for lay people in every day life. Originally given as a retreat at St. Paul's Monastery, St. Paul, Minnesota in 2013.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
The Book of Ruth is included in the third division, or the Writings, of the Hebrew Bible. In most Christian canons it is treated as one of the historical books and placed between Judges and 1 Samuel.

“The shadow side of
monastic life is complacency,
or mediocrity and comfort.”
Mary Benet McKinney, OSB
56. Practices for Not Yet
• “Rumble” – Take apart what’s happening, bit
by bit. Trust God enough to let it be messy as
long as necessary, until the Spirit moves.
(from Brené Brown, Rising Strong)
• Formation – Practices are tools for the journey.
They don’t do the work – they help the work be
done in you. Find and use good tools!
• Confession – speak your struggles to others,
asking for prayer. Also Reconciliation.
• Hope – “we ourselves, who have the firstfruits
of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as
we wait for adoption…” (Rom 8: 23)
57. Practices for Already
• “Revolution” – As you see the image of the new,
act to bring it into being, one piece at a time.
(from Brené Brown, Rising Strong)
• Gratitude – be alert for special moments, whether
they come in the natural realm or beyond.
• Petition – Pray ardently for needs large and small,
aware that the Spirit is present and active. Pray for
yourself and for others. When you don’t know how
to pray, ask the Spirit to show you.
• Celebration – Rejoice! Whether for God’s action in
your life or the world. Let songs of praise spring
forth! Give your Alleluia and your Amen so all can
see. This, too, is part of the monastic call.
