Cape Town is the second largest city in South Africa and is located on the southwest coast at the base of Table Mountain. It has a population of over 4 million people and is the economic center of the Western Cape province, producing 10% of South Africa's GDP. The city faces issues with water shortages, solid waste management, and air quality due to its growth and effects of climate change. To address water shortages, Cape Town is building desalination plants to convert seawater to drinking water and implemented conservation measures that helped prevent "Day Zero" when taps were projected to run dry.

Cyclone Idai Exhibition Final - Re-living Disaster in ManicalandBervenMavhima1
This exhibition commemorates Cyclone Idai, which caused widespread destruction in parts of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, and Madagascar in March 2019. Cyclone Idai was one of the worst tropical cyclones on record to affect Southern Africa. In Zimbabwe, over 50,000 households were affected, with 347 reported dead, 200 injured, and 344 missing. The cyclone destroyed infrastructure like schools and bridges, disrupted communication networks, and wiped out crops. The exhibition aims to honor those who lost their lives and livelihoods, and to raise awareness of disaster preparedness.
There has been a global increase in tourism over the last 60 years due to factors like increased disposable income, more paid holidays, and cheaper travel. Popular destinations include cities, beaches, and mountain areas for their culture, recreation, and scenery. Tourism is important for many economies, but can negatively impact the environment if not managed properly. Ecotourism is an alternative that involves small-scale tourism to benefit local environments and communities in a sustainable way.
Gully and flooding in anambra state the way forwardAlexander Decker
Gully erosion and flooding have become major environmental issues in Anambra State, Nigeria. Over 1,000 gully sites have been identified, with 600 that are actively eroding. Flooding is exacerbated by improper drainage planning and design, as well as waste blocking drainage channels. The paper assesses contributing factors like relief, slope instability, rainfall patterns, and human activities including urbanization, waste dumping, and deforestation. Solutions proposed include workshops to educate communities, planting vegetation, and constructing dams, ditches, and improved drainage systems. Adopting planning tools and increasing public awareness of environmental issues are also recommended to mitigate flooding and gully erosion in Anambra State.

The document discusses the problems caused by the large number of visitors to the Lake District National Park each year and the strategies used to manage these issues. Over 12 million people visit annually, leading to traffic congestion, footpath erosion, high housing prices, and conflicts between different user groups. The Lake District National Park Authority addresses these problems through measures like promoting public transport, maintaining footpaths, providing affordable housing, and protecting quiet areas from overdevelopment.
On November 11, Typhoon Ulysses (international name: Typhoon Vamco) made landfall in the Philippines and caused widespread damage to eight provinces in the island group of Luzon. The most notable flooding events were in Marikina City in Metro Manila, adjacent Rizal province, and in Region 2 or Cagayan Valley in northeastern Luzon. This study analyzes the flooding events in these localities to identify key factors and how to mitigate risk. Four main determinants stand out: (1) the degradation of natural watersheds (2) the marginalization of the poor that render them vulnerable and exposed to disasters, (3) stop-gap solutions that do not address the roots of our disaster vulnerability, and (4) that the national government remains unprepared for disaster. Policy priorities among other reforms are recommended based on this assessment.

Sustainability of Tourism Development in Al Ain Al Sukhna, Egypt
Due to its significant natural and cultural attractions, tourism is a major economic source for Egypt. Yet, rapid development and construction of touristic facilities has negative impact on the fragile natural and cultural heritage. This paper studies the recent touristic developments of the coastal stretch of Al Ain Al Sukhna – the hot spring in Arabic - on the Red Sea coastal region of Galala mountain, and their impact on the surrounding natural and cultural attractions. Coral reefs and rich marine life have made this stretch among the prime fishing and scuba diving destinations in the world. The area is also famous of its all-year-round sunny beaches, spectacular coastline scenic drive where mountains reach the costal road. Recently, development has started on the mountains following the construction of Galala Mountainous road. Galala City started operating hosting Galal University and several other residential, touristic and commercial facilities. The paper studies the pattern of development in the area during the past 50 years and assesses its impact on the natural and cultural resources.

The protected seascape aims to conserve biodiversity like whale sharks, manta rays and sea turtles, promote sustainable use of resources, and enhance climate change adaptation for local communities.
Cameron calhoun make the bosque great again midterm project unm crp 275 commu...Dr. J
In the past decades, the Rio Grande bosque in Albuquerque has been under significant stress due to drought, invasive species, climate change, wildfire, and other anthropogenic influences.
The bosque is a huge part of the local community, as it is home to a huge network of trails and attractions and visited regularly by hundreds of people year-round.
The preservation and restoration of urban forests around the globe such as this one is critical for conserving biodiversity in cities, providing access for people to enjoy natural beauty, and producing clean air and water.
This document provides an environmental quality report on Pensacola Bay in Florida. It examines water quality in the bay over the past decade based on data from local, state, and federal agencies. Water quality is influenced by surrounding rural, industrial, tourism, fishing and agricultural activities. Data from 2007-2010 and 2012-2013 show levels of various contaminants found in the bay and surrounding wells that supply fresh water, in comparison to regulatory limits. While water quality varies over time and location, the report indicates the complex factors that impact the local ecosystem.

This document provides a vision for reorganizing Tasmania into a unified "City of Gondwana" or "Island City" made up of distinct towns and locales rather than a traditional urban sprawl. It proposes designing the state as an "inside-out mega-city" where the towns and natural areas serve as the "botanical gardens" embedded in the countryside rather than separated from it. This aims to preserve the unique character of communities while improving access and fostering local culture and identity over anonymous suburbs. Snapshots provide examples of how different towns may develop under this model from hi-tech eco-towns to grassroots cultural hubs.
