TEL-Technology Enhanced Learning is a program we began at SCPS to improve technology enhanced online instruction, to incorporate best practices… to kick start faculty development of online courses beyond basic levels. We believed TEL would provide an engagement opportunity for us to guide faculty through design and development of exceptional online courses.  Courses were across a broad spectrum of disciplines…procurement, leadership, poetry with a focus on Technology Enhanced Learning:Increased student engagementExploring and integration of a robust set of toolsInstructional StrategiesTeam DebatesGuest SpeakersLab SimulationsAssessment Rubrics The program employed a team-based model creating a collaborative team using the expertise across grounds with all the elements of creating an enhanced course using technology.  Faculty were encouraged to:Re-Design their teaching methods and goalsExplore potential for specific instructional technology applicationsImprove the effectiveness of their teaching-learning practices with technology TEL by its nature is a highly collaborative effort and depended greatly on the rich resources available on-Grounds through ITS, UVaCollab, Library Services, Digital Media Lab, ASCIT and the Office of Institutional Assessment.  Our program has been successful due to the fact that we had both institutional support and leadership support at SCPS Expectations and outcomesDesign or redesign a courseParticipate in individual consulting with instructional design teamParticipate in three live sessions and monthly online large group sessionsAgree to be a resource for other faculty in their program pertaining to engagement for online learning strategiesPresent at the SCPS TEL Conference- Over 100 participants attended university wideWe presented this to leadership team for support and fundingWe solicited requests for nominations/RFP type process from department chairsProgram served 8 faculty each being paid a small stipendTEL will be offered again in the Fall of 2012 in both F2F and onlineCollaboration from Information Technology, Instructional Technology and Development.Faculty development where faculty collaboration is facilitated was productive.Each faculty member authentically developed their content over time, which allowed them to plan, design, and think with a team that could work with them to re-develop the course to use technology to enhance the learning- not just use technology for technology’s sake.
