Poe and Morrison Transformed Jalopies into Hot Rods
The subconscious is said to control various aspects of the life of a human to include major and
minor decisions alike; whether to follow the path carved out so cautiously by others or to forge a
unique path and travel it fiercely with reckless abandon and ambition guided by extreme
individuality. What is this perplexing, intangible thing we call the subconscious? And what role
does it play in the writing process of a poet? In general, when given the task of defining the
subconscious, the initial impulse is to provide an ordinary idea such as, one s natural instinct that
lies beneath the actively aware mind and its intentional thoughts ; however, what if the
subconscious is something more? What if the subconscious is actually the... Show more content on

John Allen resented Poe s desire to write poetry, as he saw it more fit that Poe obtain a formal
education in business and pay closer attention to formulating his plan for a career (Hutchisson
12). Eventually Poe candidly wrote of his painful difficulties in life, I have many occasional
dealings with Adversity, but the want of parental affection has been the heaviest of my trials
(Ackroyd 13). Equally, Morrison endured an icy and emotionally distant relationship with his
father. Although Morrison followed through with his father s requests to graduate from college
with a degree, the direction in which Morrison took that degree was not at all what his father
had visualized for his son. At the core of Morrison were a poet and a musician, both of which
were unacceptable to his father (Hopkins 63). Furthermore, Poe and Morrison shared fairly
comparable philosophies on the creation of poetry. On poetry, Poe is quoted as saying A poem
in my opinion, is opposed to a work of science by having for its immediate object, pleasure, not
truth (Hutchisson 27). Poe s philosophy on poetry shows his commitment to allowing the pleasure
principle to act as the force behind the poem instead of adhering to a rigid standard put in place
by others before him. Similarly, in an interview lead by Richard Goldstein in 1969, Morrison
attempts to clarify his thoughts about the process of writing poetry; he states, when you write a
poem often you just, you have to be

Interpersonal Communication Principles
Interpersonal Communication What is interpersonal communication? Interpersonal communication
consist seven principles, which explain the purpose, package of signals, involvement of content and
relationship messages, process of adjustment, involvement of power, how ambiguous and
inevitable, irreversible, and unrepeatable interpersonal communicationis. Simultaneously nowadays,
the society tends to engage less in communication towards other people. Therefore, many
individuals have not mastered the principles of interpersonal communication, which is essential in
our daily living with the people we want to have a decent relationship with. Communication is used
in many events in business, pursuing a group of population, with significant partner, family and

Moreover, you may tend to relate yourself to someone, influence and help him or her about his or
her attitudes and behaviours, and finally communication can be playful as you use social media to
update others about what is happening to you. As a matter of fact, interpersonal communication is a
package of signals. The signals become unnoticed, but our body language and facial expressions
naturally does the job to convey our words into our gestures. Furthermore, interpersonal
communication engages in content and relationship messages. Content message is usually use by
acquaintances, because they barely known each other. On the other hand, people who maintain a
familiarity towards another person use relationship messages. Adjustment in communication is
important, because we all have different culture. Likewise, the same word sale in English and
French or another language may not have the same meaning. It is better to consider the differences
between cultures. For more, interpersonal communication requires power, notice in relationships

How Does Pinchot Protect Environmental Ethics
Many individuals have different opinions as to whether or not humans have an ethical obligation
under justice to defend anything other than themselves. Still, many people agree with Gifford
Pinchot s belief system in that the purpose of conservation is to protect natural resources to produce
the greatest good for the greatest number for the longest time ( Environmental ethics). He held the
beliefs of a utilitarian, meaning that he cared about all sentient beings, which includes plants and
animals because he included them in his moral community. Therefore, utilitarian s take care of
these beings not only to promote life for future generations, but for those living organisms as well.
They believe that it is their obligation in order to

Animal Farm and A Modest Proposal Essay
Animal Farm and A Modest Proposal
Although Animal Farm and A Modest Proposal were written over two hundred years apart, and one
is non fiction and the other is not, there are distinct similarities between the two. Both of the pieces
are political, with Animal Farm based on the Russian Revolution, and
A Modest Proposal based on the situation of homelessness in Ireland.
Also, both of the pieces are satirical. Animal Farm ridicules the ordinary Russian people for being
gullible, and A Modest Proposal mocks politicians who ignore sensible suggestions and come up
with extreme ones.

He says Man is the only real enemy we have .
In the following two paragraphs, he plays on the animals emotions by scaring them individually.
He mainly picks on the animals that are liked by the rest of the farm. He says You, Boxer, the
very day those great muscles of yours lose their power, Jones will sell you to the knackers . This
makes the other animals more afraid, as thoughts of their friends dying are being put in their minds,
and they want to know what they can do to stop it happening.
In the seventh paragraph of his speech, he develops the solution to their problems, by suggesting a
rebellion, That is my message to you comrades: Rebellion! It is only when he has the audience on
his side, that he mentions the rebellion. He has used persuasive techniques to channel their anger
towards man, and told them how to solve this problem. In the next paragraph, he warns the animals
to never falter, and never listen to anyone when they tell you that man and the animals have a
common interest . By warning the animals, it will seem to them that he knows what is going to
happen, and what to look out for. This again will make him seem wise.
A fight breaks out in the audience, and we are once reminded of the respect that the animals have
for Old Major, as he raises his trotter to silence the barn. This shows us that the animals will do
what he says, and believe what he is telling them.

Amplitude Means The Loudness Of Sound
Amplitude is the amount that air particles are disturbed, also means the loudness of sound.
b. The frequency of the soundwave for human hearing can range from 20 hz to 20,000 hz.

the tympanic membrane or better known as the eardrum. Sound waves that come in the auditory
canal hit the tympanic membrane, which then will vibrate.

This is called the theosseous labyrinth. The 3 parts of this are the semicircular canals, cochlea, and

3. a. The basilar membrane
b. The bass guitar has a deep and low sound. Deep sounds disturb the fibers in the basilar

because of that, more than just the bass wouldn t be heard.

otolithic membrane. A plate then covers the otoliths, which causes them to bend and send signals to
the vestibular nerve. The vestibular nerve tells the brain the location of the head.
b. Inner ear
c. The receptors respond to angular motions. Hair cells called cupulas drags along the endolymph

He was the son of Almon Wheeler and Eliza. His father attended the University of Vermont and
died at the age of thirty seven. At the time, William was eight years old. His father left the family
behind in debt. William farmed and did whatever he could to save up money to go to college. At
the age of nineteen with the help of a friend s loan he enrolled in the University of Vermont in

Identify At Least Two Examples Of A Bio-Reaction To Adler
I experienced a bio reaction when I couldn t hear or immediately find my toddler. There was a lot
of noise and confusion in my friend s home that day with several families visiting. Bigger
children were running in and out and doors were slamming. Children we laughing and talking
and babies were crying. I was terrified. I experienced what felt like an electrical shock across the
surface of my entire body. My heart was pounding wildly in my ears. I was nauseated, I thought I
would vomit. I also experienced a bio reaction when I was riding a toboggan sled in Germany
with my 5 year old in front of me. The sled was racing down the track, picking up speed, faster
and faster. The trees looked like a green blur, the sleds in front of me were getting closer. My boy
was laughing. I pulled back on the brake and the car continued to pick up speed. As I rounded a
curve the sled lay almost on its side, One arm around my son, the other pulling back on the
brake. My shoulder and elbow were dragging along on the bottom of the track, but I didn t feel
any pain. I knew we were going to be ejected. I was horrified at the picture in mind. I clung tighter

Adequacy of Organization s Long-term Counter Attack Actions
Introduction
In Case study number one (Dhillon, 2007), Stellar University(SU), which is public education
institution, had a system breach in its Information Systems(IS). The IS of SU contained many
types of IT such as Mainframe, AS400, Linux, VAX, Unix, AIX, Windows(3.1 and up to 2003),
Apple, RISC boxes Storage Area Networks(SAN), Network Attached Storage(NAS) and much
more. Sadly, SU has had a security breach on some of its systems. Even though everything was
fixed but there are issues that need to be discussed about this breach. The first issue is adequacy of
organization s long term counter attack actions. The second issue is helpfulness of immediate
counter attack actions. Hopefully, the discussion will be concise and to the point.
Adequacy of Organization s Long term Counter Attack Actions
Sadly, the measures SU IS staff has taken were not adequate enough. The post mortem check they
conducted to determine the what and why of the breach was not done in a formal fashion. It was
basically, a written summary presented to the management, along with an analysis of how to avoid
such future breaches of similar type presented to the System Administrators(SAs). It was done in
several steps. First, after viewing monitoring tool logs the SAs decided to put the Anti Virus(AV)
program in the watch list of services so they would be alerted when a hacker for instance disables
the AV. Still, this step will not prevent the intrusion! This is another proof that the actions were not

Prejudice In The Bluest Eye
In the novel, The Bluest Eye (1970), Toni Morrison introduces us to three young girls who have
different perspective among the 1930s child film star Shirley Temple. Although Frieda McTeer,
the older sister of Claudia McTeer admires Shirley, and the sisters friend Pecola Breedlove has an
obsession with Shirley, Claudia hates the actress with a passion. Even though Freida may like
Shirley, because society loves Shirley and she is suppose to follow what society values and

Temple highlights their self worth. Pecola s excessive adoration of Shirley is what is getting in

Which is the complete opposite of Pecola. Even though Freida likes Shirley, she still loves
herself, she knows who she is. She validates herself worth and that is something that Pecola
doesn t know how to do. When the McTeer family allowed Mr. Henry to live with them, over the
time, he touched Frieda. Her father was outraged and so was everyone else, seeing that they
love and care about Freida, they chased him out. However, when Pecola was raped by her father,
she told her mother and she didn t believe her, therefore she did nothing. Even though Frieda
likes Shirley, she had her sister and parents to help her through this horrible event, although
Pecola had nobody. Since Pecola isn t able to love herself, she has to love Shirley. On the other
hand, Claudia McTeer hates Shirley. She was brought in the same family as Freida, but since
nobody expects anything of Claudia, she is able to have her own opinions and is able to despise
the actress. Freida is the oldest so she must like Shirley because everyone likes the actress, Pecola
loves Shirley because she needs something to love since she doesn t love herself and Claudia hates

Male And Female Offenders Similarities
The patterns and rates of offending between males and females have several similarities, as well
as, differences. The nature of the offences is also varied and the level of penalty is also different.
While it can be considered that both males and females equally engage in minor offences and abuse
of substances, the rates for men are higher than that of women. This paper will discuss the
differences and similarities that exist in the United Kingdom. To begin, there are numerous
differences that can be cited between femaleoffending and maleoffending. Generally, studies show
that women tend to engage in crime less often than their male counterparts. It is shown that men are

The Yellow Wall-Paper
The Yellow Wall Paper is a short story that was published in 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
Gilman s ideas about equality for men and women are vividly present in the short story. She
believed that women should be more equal economically, socially, and be able to have jobs and
work outside of their home. The Yellow Wall Paper focuses on how women were seen as home
keepers and not able to work in the real world. Gilman expresses her ideas through this story by
telling it as a first person experience. The story The Yellow Wall Paper is considered one of
Gilman s most famous short stories. Charlotte Perkins Gilmanwas born on July 3rd in 1860 in

Masculinity and Gender Roles
How is gender and gender roles socially constructed? Soulliere states that gender is a cultural
creation that is frequently developed by and represented through popular cultural media such as
advertisements, music, sports, and entertainment television (Soulliere 2006). The article Wrestling
with Masculinity: Messages about Manhood in the WWE by Danielle M. Soulliere (2006),
examines messages about manhood revealed by televised professional wrestling (Soulliere 1).
Messages concerning masculinityand manhood were investigated and compared to the cultural
version of masculinity (Soulliere 2006). Soulliere s research proves that the World Wrestling
Entertainment(WWE) depicts messages, which supports the dominant hegemonic form of
masculinity (Soulliere 2006). To further grasp and understand Soulliere s hypothesis, we must first
examine her research methods and outcomes.
Soulliere states that television programs and advertisements such as the WWE provide gender and
social role models (Soulliere 2006). Soulliere references that the dominant form of masculinity is
associated with various male characteristics that consistently appear in the media. Such attributes
include violence and aggression, emotional restraint, toughness, risk taking, physical strength,
courage, power and dominance, competitiveness, and achievement and success (Soulliere 2006).
Additionally, presentation of men in sports continues to reaffirm the traditional hegemonic notion
of masculinity and Soulliere

Prayers For The Stolen Character Analysis
Prayers for the stolen Character Review The novel prayers for the stolen by Jennifer Clement is
about the lifestyle of girls leaving in a place called Guerrero, Mexico, where the drug lords are

Theme Of Guilt In Atonement
Both writers of the books Atonement and The Remains of The Day investigate the manners by
which the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of
reality. This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the
novels. Regret and guilt are depicted throughout both novels by the successful utilization of dialect
that is used in the books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension
between the characters. With close analysis of the characters in the novel, it is questionable

excessively obvious up until the end section of the novel where it is uncovered that she becomes

fallen sister as opposed to following her own desires. The fountain scene is an excellent example
of how Briony s desire for a much more romanticised world would affect her to think irrationally,
while watching the interactions amongst Cecilia and Robbie, Briony s train of thought switches

Wells Fargo has taken a lot of heat during its recent scandal. Regulatory and media authorities have

Essay on Exploring Death in Death in Venice
Exploring Death in Death in Venice
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, is a story that deals with mortality on many different levels.
There is the obvious physical death by cholera, and the cyclical death in nature: in the beginning it
is spring and in the end, autumn. We see a kind of death of the ego in Gustav Aschenbach s
dreams. Venice itself is a personificationof death, and death is seen as the leitmotif in musical
terms. It is also reflected in the idea of the traveler coming to the end of a long fatiguing journey.
It must also be noted there are no women in the story with prominent roles. The hero s wife is long

9, 14). It is ironic that Aschenbach, who had written his book The Abject as a rebuke to the
excess of a psychology ridden age (13) succumbs to an egoless state, not only in the last grotesque
dream, but directly after it in his conscious mind as well. From this point on, Gustav becomes
totally shameless. (We have seen this theme of loss of shame as being a kind of death, and actually
leading to literal death as well, in Salman Rushdie s Shame.)
Mann s use of Venice as a backdrop is critical. Venice, an ancient city, inexorably sinking beneath
the water, a forbidden spot (38) with stagnant lagoons (28) the fallen queen of the sea (36).
Venice, with a faintly rotten scent (37) half fairy tale, half snare (55) that hid sickness for love of
gain . . . (56). The city that had a disreputable secret [like] his own (57).
In musical terms, death is the leitmotif, the theme keeps reappearing: heard in the overture (the first
stranger Aschenbach sees in Munich), continually sounded in the Venetian passages (more odd
men), swelling to a crescendo of hysterical laughter and swirling pipes of Pan, and, in the

Bateman is in a way sickened by the everyday all American life he leads, while the reader is
sickened by the flip side of Patrick Bateman. From the beginning of the novel Bateman seems
content with his life style. He seems perfectly happy with the daily lunch tickets at Nell s, the
Yale Club, etc. He seems fascinated and absorbed with the details of peoples wardrobes,
especially his own. But if you sift through all the talk of food, cocktails, and hardbodies, the reader
will find a subtle boredom or frustration even early in the novel. While waiting on food at a table at
Nell s, Bateman is momentarily diverted from the conversation by one of his thoughts of sex or
violence that seem to escalate in frequency throughout the novel. I think about Courtney s legs,
spread and wrapped around my face, and when I look over at Luis in one brief flashing moment his
head looks like a talking vagina and it scares the bejesus out of me, moves me to say something
while mopping the sweat off my brow. (108) These thoughts seem to come to Bateman most
frequently at these types of situations. Wealthy friends, wealthy strangers, and a wealthy
environment surround him. Either consciously or subconsciously Bateman s mind diverts itself
from the monotonous world that Bateman grows to loathe, to a world that Bateman loves.
Although the thoughts occur the most often in restaurants, I can t say with certainty that food has

Standardized Testing Is Necessary For Education
Assessment, assessment, assessment, it is not fun and no student in their right mind would argue
otherwise but testing is necessary. This one word has become the centerpiece of education not only
in the United States but in the entire westernized world. Standardized testing has been used to
measure teacher quality and student achievement since the mid 1800s. Within the last two decades
standardized testing has taken on an important role in educationin all 50 states since its mandate by
President Bush s No Child Left Behind Act. The use of standardized testing to measure progress,
identify strengths and weaknesses, and help professionals reach competency in their careers are
critical to improvement of the educational system. There are many facts about standardized
achievement testing: the public wants it, other nations may do it better, and many critics offer no
viable alternatives to it (Haladyna, 2006).
President George W. Bush signed No Child Left Behind into law on January 8, 2002, thus re
authorizing six more years of Johnson s historic Elementary and Secondary Education Act initiative.
The No Child Left Behind Act aims to reform education by improving academic standards, with
goals such as: holding states more accountable for results, creating greater flexibility at the state and
local levels, expanding options and choice for parents, emphasizing teacher quality and effective
teaching methods, and confirming states progress (Fritzberg 2004, p. 11). It expanded the

Examples Of Structural Functionalism In Animal Farm
Structural Functionalism is a sociological theory that attempt to explain why society functions the

the peace craved. Thus, the seven commandments were organized to guide all of the animals to

and were starting to treat the other animals uniquely in contrast to themselves. The pigs were able
to relax and not do anything while every other animal had to do all the work. Another example was
when Old Major came up with the first seven commandments. This came from him wanting equality

Child Malnutrition And A Lack Of Child Psycho Social
Child malnutrition and a lack of child psycho social stimulation is a problem that faces many
nations. Some countries are more successful than others at solving this problem through social
programs. Social programs aimed at providing children with proper nutrition and psycho social
stimulation should be a social and political priority.
Introduction
Finance is all about the proper allocation of capital. Nations can sometimes make investments that
private firms cannot because the capital expenditures are just too vast. A few successful public
investments that come to mind are the interstate system and NASA. However, it could be argued
that people are our most valuable assets. We invest in our own people through our various
education systems, healthcare systems, along with other social programs. If we realize that proper
investments can be made into improving the quality of life of all people one would soon come
across the idea that our children are of the upmost priority. In particular, ensuring that all children
have access to adequate nutrition, enriching educational environments, and a loving social unit
proves to be one of the wisest investments that a nation can make. The current risks to our
children and solutions for how we can invest in our children s well being and development will be
analyzed. A case will be made on why a shift in Western perspective is practical when approaching
an implementation of social programs.

Child malnutrition poses a myriad of

The History Of Greek Mythology
Greek mythology is used for the explanation on how humankind lived. Religion was the main
source of myths. There were many things it was used for like the explanation on how Gods,
Goddesses, monsters and mythical creatures lived in ancient times. This mythology explained the
origin of gods and their lifestyle and where humanity would go after death. The original gods
were Uranus and Gaia. They had a total twelve Titans, one of the most known and powerful Titan
was named Iapetus, he repr. During the Golden Age when Uranus was defeated, Iapetus was in
charge of the Western part of the mythological world, until he was defeated by Zeusand imprisoned.
Iapetus was a Titan god from Greek mythology, from the preceding generation to Zeus and other
olympians. Iapetus was the son of Ouranos (sky) and Gaia (earth)... Show more content on

When Zeus fought against his father Cronus and other Titans, the Golden Age finalized. Iapetus
was one of the best and destructive fighters. Iapetus and Zeus at one point fought against each other.
Zeus punished the Titans by sending them to Tartarus, where they were imprisoned. Iapetus and
Cronus were not the exception. These events between Titan and Olympians lasted ten years of war
during the Titanomachy. Iapetus had four children, Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, Menoetius from
a second generation of Titans. They would make Zeus angry and were punished to a degree
depending on their acts. Iapetus ironically lost his power against Zeus although him being
considered the most destructive and powerful.
As one can see, Greeks used Greek Mythology to help people understand how the world was
created and how things came to be. Although there are many myths, Iapetus the god of mortality
was a very important and fascinating mythical creature because he was one of the first twelve
titans. His myth was important to greek mythology because he represented mortality as well as

Life of a Mullato Essay examples
Life of a Mullato In Society, there has been one common way through which an individual can
differentiate himself and that is race/color. Consequently, once a person s color is determined, it
seems a class structure is established, a structure that not only describes the individual s social,
political, but also their economic standards. Throughout most of nineteenth century literature that
we have read it s apparent, the class structure consisted of whites and blacks. Much of the literary
works of the time stressed that to be black meant being despised and discriminated against by the
white population. Moreover, the literature such as Our Nig portrayed whites as domineering and
superior as they essentially controlled many black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a thorough analysis of the racial identity of a mulatto, and a look at the lives of mulatto
characters in works by Charles W. Chesnutt, Harriet Wilson and Wallace Thurman an
understanding of what it means to be mulatto can be realized. In the works we discussed, a
mulatto was usually the offspring of a black woman and a white man; however, the key to
comprehending the racial identity of a mulatto is much more deeper. A mulatto is constantly faced
with the difficult task of struggling between two races that in the past have been in conflict with
each other. In addition, they are faced with mixed feelings from the fellow pure bread black
members. For example, in Blacker the Berry, Emma character, a mulatto encounter constant
resentment and possible envy by not only blacks because of her lighter skin tone, but also from
white peers. Even in present society, this is a reality of which many non blacks are unaware, and
which most blacks would prefer to overlook, rather than resolve. It was these revelations that
authors like Chesnutt, Wilson, and Thurman attempted to bring insight on. Charles W. Chesnutt
was born in Cleveland in 1858, to free parents of mixed racial heritage, and raised in Fayetteville,
N.C. His youth in North Carolina as a mulatto was very influential in most of his works. Chesnutt

Analytical Essay The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton
The Skelton Council by Katherine Leyton was published in Volume 36 No. 4 of Contemporary
Verse 2 during the spring of 2014. The poem opens on a house inhabited by a woman and a group
of skeletons that meet every evening for examination. One night, the woman blinks and sees a
doppelganger of herself in an empty room. The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton uses
symbolism, imagery, and style to express the oppressive nature of family secrets and their distortive
and obsessive effects on the narrator.
In The Skeleton Council, Leyton uses the skeletons as a symbol for the family secrets that plague
the narrator. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first half of the poem is comprised of a more complex syntax than the second half. The
sentences in the first half are longer, averaging 3 lines each and use a more descriptive diction
with words such as anxious (line 3), encouraging (line 5), and sideboards (line 2). This heavier
style brings forward an oppressive element as the meaning is trapped behind dense language. In the
second half, the style becomes more simplistic with sentences averaging 1 2 lines and word choice
becoming more concise. This change in style clearly presents the meaning in the second half taking
away the oppressive atmosphere and reinforcing the distortion of the narrators feelings.
In The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton, the symbolism of skeletons as well as the
juxtaposition that imagery and style form with the narrator s feelings are utilized throughout the
poem. These elements help to express the oppressive nature of un earthed secrets in the narrator s
life and the distortive and obsessive effects they have on

Is Data A Person
Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be
considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality,
conscious mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a
special stance or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single
episode, The Measure Of A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus
making him a person. The first factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He

William Butler Yeats The Second Coming
In William Butler Yeats The Second Coming, the poet makes phrases such as; the best lack of
conviction of stony sleep (19) and the falcon cannot hear the falconer (2). The phrases are useful in
suggesting various thematic concerns of the poem as well asserting separation of ideas and events
that occur during the time when Yeats is writing his work. Different interpretations of the stanzas
may bring a connection of the antagonism of people and events that Yeats foresees. For instance,
the falcon separates from the falconer, the lion having the head of a human being (sphinx) and
things falling apart indicate contradicting forces that work to build history at the time. The analysis
of the poem is on the basis of contradicting forces that separate modernity from the ancient world.
Yeats introduces the poem by referring to a falcon that flies away from the falconer who happens to
release it. Shockingly, the falcon cannot hear its master but it continues wheeling at far distance
from the falconer. The separation between the falcon and the falconer presents a metaphorical
incidence that is worth to interpret. For instance, it is possible that the disassociation represent the
young ones, acting as falcons, and separate themselves from the old order of the society. Notably,
the modern children may be adopting new societal principles different from the ones that their
parents and grandparents prescribe during the Yeats time. Such societal engagements may touch on
music, new

The power in music shows how all cultures are embracing African American music and literature
into their cultures and societies. Artist today have so much pressure to crossover to be adaptable
to other cultures so that they are marketable or saleable to the industry proves how powerful music
can be to our culture. The idea that art of Blues which came from African American culture
evolved from a time of pain and oppression was embraced by whites secondhand in creating the
genre of music known as Rock n Roll. Music has touched so many cultures at one time
worldwide through the likes of Iconic performers over the years when we see concerts in other
countries where English is not spoken yet the audience knows every word of the song is proof
that that music is powerful. Music lures our emotions and it makes an impact on connecting
different cultures across the word. BeyoncГ© s Formation was an illustration of how artist use
music to direct attention to inequalities and the need to come together against wrong doings.
However, Michael Jackson, U2, Madonna, Selena, Kendrick Lamar just to name a few in this

Chaos Things Fall Apart
As the chaos of the world unfurls, the forces of good must counterbalance this force for without
good, chaos holds no reference to compare it against to make chaos chaotic. This notion holds
true for all forces in the universe as Newton s famous Third Law states that for every action there
is an equal and opposite re action, thus when chaos reigns, good reacts to counterbalance chaos
and bring the system into equilibrium. However, this relationship may not hold true forever as the
reaction between chaos and good creates entropy chaotic destruction that eventually will bring
chaos it s inevitable victory over good. Mankind attempts to create order through societal mores to
dictate the chaotic nature of the world, however, when the falcon flies too far from its nest the
falcon falls into the perceived chaos of the world. When the Europeans reached too far into the
heart of darkness of Africa, they attempted to create order where they perceived to be chaos,
however, those who inhabit this so called chaotic land saw the chaos of the furious European
falcons and attempted to protect the good of their land.

Dream Interpretation Essay
Scholars are not sure where or when the origins of dream interpretation began or how long
dream analysis has been carried out. It is probably a good bet that the interpretation and analysis
of people s dreams has been part of society in one form or another as long as we have been having
dreams. Early man must have found dreams to be both frightening and fascinating and must have
been confused by this bizarre manner of consciousness. It is clear that many ancient civilizations
placed great significance on the events occurring in dreams as well as the possible meaning of
these dreamstate events. These interpretations were used to help shed light on the events that
occurred in their waking lives. This paper briefly reviews the history of dream interpretation, from
early civilizations to psychological theories to modern biologically oriented theories. Information
about early dream interpretation comes from several different sources:
Mesopotamia
The people of Mesopotamian (now Iraq) left behind some of the earliest pictographic writings
dating back to approximately 3100 B.C. (Oppenheim, 1956). By 2700 B.C. they also used a
cuneiform writing type consisting of marks on clay tablets and cylinders. It is in these writings
that the earliest recorded notions of dream interpretations occur. The king Gudea, who ruled
around 2220 B.C., had several dreams preserved that tell the story of a puzzling dream he had and
his quest using a goddess s help to understand its meaning. This is one

The Writing Of Writing Courses Essay
Writing courses are classes that are there to help students become familiar with formal, written
English as well as come into their own as writers. The curriculum should focus on grammar,
punctuation, usage, mechanics, writing style, organization and clarity and non traditional
compositions. These courses should be hands on, letting students learn from experience; there is
only so much you can learn by reviewing someone else s work. Yet, I have been in many writing
courses where we hardly wrote. This caused the students writing skills to become rusty; we as
students lost interest and no longer participated because of it. Having a writing course turned into
a writing seminar is not only false advertising, but it caters more to the teacher s comfort zone and
need to be in control of what the students read and write. This leaves students trying to gratify their
teachers to get a good grade, rather than improving their skills. In A guide to Composition
Pedagogies by Gary Tate, Amy Rupiper and Kurt Schick, there is a section on the educationbehind
the writing curriculum that states:
The student writes the wrong thing, for the wrong reason, to the wrong person [...] he writes about
a subject he is not thoroughly informed upon in order to exhibit his knowledge rather than explain
something the reader does not understand, and he writes to a professor who already knows more
than he does about the matter [...] (page 156).

Lab Report On Osmosis
The Osmosis and Diffusion lab was conducted to provide us with information on how built up
mucus affects those conflicted by the recessive genetic disease, Cystic Fibrosis., due to a mutation
to the membrane regulating chloride (Cl ). This mutation prevents the Cl from leaving the cell
causing the amount of sodium (Na+) in epithelial cells, which results in extreme mucus on the
lungs and airways causing this disease to be fatal if not treated but treatment does not equate to a
long lifetime. During the lab we took the data from three parts: Diffusion, Osmosis in an Elodea
Cell, and finally the Role of Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis. During Part 1 we looked at diffusion across
a semipermeable membranefor starch and glucose, which resulted in both having a negative
solution when placed in a semipermeable membrane. Then we looked at osmosis in the Elodea
Cell to watch for the occurrence of Plasmolysis, when a cell s plasma membrane pulls away from
the cell, and how a plant cell is affected by both hypertonic and hypotonic solutions. Finally, we
observed the role of Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis using dialysis bags to represent a normal cell and
a Cystic Fibrosis cell with the normal containing 1% NaCl while the Cystic Fibrosis bag
contained 10% NaCl. After we ran the experiment, we looked at the Percent Change in Mass and
compared them after 30 minutes. We found that Cystic Fibrosis cells didn t change mass as much

Essay about Labor Unions’ Involvement in Politics
External advocacy and political involvement is deeply engrained in the culture of labor unions.
Bill Fletcher Jr. writes myth 8: the union uses our money for political action and I have no say in
the matter, in his novel They re Bankrupting Us And 20 Other Myths about Unions. In this myth,
Bill Fletcher Jr. addresses unions and how they take political action. Labor unions often take
political action in a controversial way, while not always getting full advantage of their work.
Fletcher says that when unions and politics come together, people especially interpret unions
missions and their power critically. He does not expand on how he titles the myth, but skims the
surface on union consensus regarding politics. The myth is about the ... Show more content on

If a member did not support the union s choice of candidate, the member could easily refuse to give
money. Politics within the union movement have narrowed and less people are involved in making
decisions, due to the disengagement of members in political affairs. However, at the level of
political action, Fletcher states that engagement can only be achieved through dialogue with union
members. When members are engaged in political action, their views are respected.
From the beginning, union involvement in political and legislative matters has been a component
of unions and their external advocacy. When labor unions first began forming, political parties
that represented the interests of the workforce began forming as well. However, due to the
bipartisan power in the United States, it is hard for third parties to succeed electorally, which
ultimately ended the idea of a labor party. This is why the American Federation of Labor believed
that labor should not form its own parties, but should lobby the current two party system. With the
lack of a labor party, labor unions often back the Democratic Party, even though Democrats may
not always act in favor of the labor force. Some may see lobbying the two parties as counter
productive, since the influence of wealth and the corporate world takes some sort of precedence to
the labor unions.

In his work, he began to expand on the Freudian psychoanalytic climate during his work in the
Institute for Child Guidance learning about the different approaches that others used (Hall, 1997).
In this period of his career, he became interested in the Rankin approach that emphasizes the
positive characteristics of the individual. This approach also looked at the quality of the
therapeutic relationship and focused on responding to these feelings which led him to publish his
first book The Clinical Treatment of the Problem Child, published in 1939 (Cain, 2004). Later, he
was offered a teaching position in the psychology department at Ohio State University which later
he found he was advancing on a new approach to psychotherapy which he published his second
book, Counseling, and Psychotherapy: Newer Concepts in Practice that became later know as
client centered counseling are just a few of his publications (Patterson, 1977). Five years later
Rogers was given the opportunity to create a counseling center and select his own staff which
included Virginia Axline, Eugene Gendlin, Jules Seeman, Tom Gordan, and others (Cain, 2004). In
the creation of this counseling center, Rogers, and his colleagues refined the concepts and practices
of client centered therapy. These concepts were applied to other areas of study such as education
and leadership, and the conduction of the first large scale research project that evaluated the

Robert Frost Influences
How do poets say hello? Hey, haven t we metaphor. One of the most famous and heavily discussed
Author during my high school was Robert Frost. He was famous for writing poems reflecting life
and our sentiments. He uses symbolisms, metaphors, and more importantly his personal influences.
Frost s poems teaches everyone to understand the morals in life. In the end of the poem, readers are
left to salvage the hidden messages (morals) and to understand. Robert Frostwas a man with
misfortunate events that seems to be striking him like thunders throughout his life. With each strike
that rips him apart, he is mentally tearing apart. His father was an alcoholic, a mother with
depression, his sister Jeanie was instituted at a mental hospital, his son Carol committed suicide,
his daughter Marjorie died at birth, and his wife passed away from a heart attack. This lead Frost...

There are hard times in which we endure in our lives, some wants to quit like in a snowy
isolated place, but there are important responsibilities we have to deal with that holds us back
like Frost s suicide. His whole life was undergoing crestfallen incidents. Like his poem
Reluctance projecting the leaves are all dead on the ground ( 2 Frost, par 2). Another correlation
with nature and death. The last lone aster is gone , The heart is still aching to seek (2 Frost, par
3), a symbolic reference of the death of Elinor (his wife) emotionally broke his heart, thus the
ache. His last stanza, To yield with grace to reason, And bow and accept the end (2 Frost, par 4),
in all that has happen whether we question it or not. We will accept the outcome and proceed on.
Reluctance or willingly to accept the fate was what Frost strived to show us, and we must change
that for the benefits as we continue to live. The past is the past, we live for the present and the

The president is the one taking the decisions, but he has a person of trust that knows about the area
and can give reasonable and appropriate advises.
The United States and the small intern governments of Ecuador can be considered as interested
observers. The United States is interested in this because in the last years the countries of Latin
America has been doing what the United States asked them to do and they were in some level
their servants because of the power and the dependency they had o the big supremacy. The
United States won t be please to realize that a new emerging powerful economy is entering in
those places where they had a main power. The small governments in Ecuador are also interested
observers; because owing to the fact that Petroecuador is a state owned company, the profits it
gains are suppose to be redistribute to the country in shape of public works.
The process of the negotiation consisted in meetings between the minister of non renewable natural
resources of Ecuador and about twenty Chinese business representatives of Sinopec in Quito, the
capital of Ecuador. The purposes of these meetings were to determinate the common goals and the
outcome of the negotiation for each party. This agreement was signed when the chair of he

Colloidal Silver Nutritional Supplements Essay
Colloidal silver as a nutritional supplement became a news item again this year with the death of
one of its most famous proponents. Paul Karason died in September of 2013, Karason gained
fame after appearing on the Today Show in 2008 for having blue skin due to argyria (Netburn.
2013). Karason s argyria was caused by his ingestion of silver, he drank colloidal silver to treat his
dermatitis (Netburn. 2013). Colloidal silver has been marketed on the internet as a treatment for a
very wide variety of illnesses, one manual claims that it treats over 650 known conditions (Claussen,
2012, p.14). This paper will investigate the background of the treatment, methods of use, benefits,
current research and will make recommendations on the use of... Show more content on

The prevalence of argyria prior to 1800 has not been documented, but it was reported to be
associated with a reduced mortality rate during epidemics of plague and other infectious diseases.
(Alexander, 2009, p.290)
During the period 1800 to 1900 dressings with silver nitrate were used to treat skin ulcers and
other types of wounds (Alexander, 2009). In the 1880 s, Doctor Carl Siegmund Franz Crede
introduced the use of silver nitrate eye drops to successfully prevent gonorrheal ophthalmia in
newborns (Alexander, 2009, p.291). In the period between 1900 and 1940, colloidal silver was
consumed by patients and silver was also given intravenously; but it was later discovered in high
doses parenterally, the silver could cause gastrointestinal disturbances, convulsions or death
(Alexander, 2009, p.291). The use discovery and use of antibiotics has resulted in greatly
decreased use of parenteral silver products by today s allopathic doctors.
Treatment Methods Kevin Trudeau in his book Natural cures they don t want you to know about ,
writes that gargling with colloidal silver is a treatment for bacterial infection, viral infection,
Candida and even for parasites (2004). The author provides no studies to confirm his
recommendations and the efficacy of the treatment on parasites.
The Colloidal Silver User s Manual (Claussen, 2012) provides extensive instructions on the usages,

How Media Influence Body Image
Body Image and the Media
70% of 6 12 year olds already have the mindset that they need to be thinner. (Just Say
Yes.org)Many factors influence individual s perception of his or her own appearance. Media has
greatly increased the ideal image of beauty. Barbie, models, and actors give people false hope
that they will look just like them, and if they look different then they aren t beautiful. Social
media and peer pressures influence the way teens see themselves. To fix this problem people need
to learn to self love, respect themselves, and understand that people on TV were given the job
because of the way they look to appeal to the audience.
First of all, since the growth of the Internet in 1980s the public has been bombarded with media
driven ideas of what characteristics are desirable for men and women. Women tend to want to look
like models they see on advertisements which is usually thin with nice curves. Men also tend to
want to look like models on advertisements, which consists of being tall, slender, muscular, and
toned. Overall, men and women want to keep changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Time magazine Eliana Dockterman wrote an article titled A Barbie For Every
Body which states that children play with Barbies at a young age, so they are already given the
impression that to be perfect you must look just like the Barbie doll. 85% of American girls
ages 3 to 10 currently own at least one Barbie, (Dockterman, 2016. Pg 46) based on this we know
that barbie is extremely popular and Barbie does have at least some influence on girls ideal body
image. A 2006 study shows that girls exposed to Barbie at a young age expressed greater concern
with being thin. On January 28, 2016 Mattel released many different body types of Barbie s such
as, petite, tall and curvy. They hope that the diverse body types, new skin tones, and hair textures
will closely reflect their young owners

They were never aloud on the street in the first place says Deanie Parker during her interview.
That quote stuck with me for some time and led me to dive deeper into the politics of public
space and how it could relate to this piece. The final component to this piece is the definition of
place and lens within the city s legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy
in public spaces is nonexistent in american culture. Youth are trained from a young age that
adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an
adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a
child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and during recess. Once the child enters middle
school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control
how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter
spaces without the accompaniment of an adult. Social order dictates that groups of teenagers are
something to be fearful of. Place is crucial to the development and well being and of young
people. When youth have no public spaces to gather or perform without the risk of being
questioned by police this becomes an issue in the health and vitality of

  • 2. Poe and Morrison Transformed Jalopies into Hot Rods The subconscious is said to control various aspects of the life of a human to include major and minor decisions alike; whether to follow the path carved out so cautiously by others or to forge a unique path and travel it fiercely with reckless abandon and ambition guided by extreme individuality. What is this perplexing, intangible thing we call the subconscious? And what role does it play in the writing process of a poet? In general, when given the task of defining the subconscious, the initial impulse is to provide an ordinary idea such as, one s natural instinct that lies beneath the actively aware mind and its intentional thoughts ; however, what if the subconscious is something more? What if the subconscious is actually the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Allen resented Poe s desire to write poetry, as he saw it more fit that Poe obtain a formal education in business and pay closer attention to formulating his plan for a career (Hutchisson 12). Eventually Poe candidly wrote of his painful difficulties in life, I have many occasional dealings with Adversity, but the want of parental affection has been the heaviest of my trials (Ackroyd 13). Equally, Morrison endured an icy and emotionally distant relationship with his father. Although Morrison followed through with his father s requests to graduate from college with a degree, the direction in which Morrison took that degree was not at all what his father had visualized for his son. At the core of Morrison were a poet and a musician, both of which were unacceptable to his father (Hopkins 63). Furthermore, Poe and Morrison shared fairly comparable philosophies on the creation of poetry. On poetry, Poe is quoted as saying A poem in my opinion, is opposed to a work of science by having for its immediate object, pleasure, not truth (Hutchisson 27). Poe s philosophy on poetry shows his commitment to allowing the pleasure principle to act as the force behind the poem instead of adhering to a rigid standard put in place by others before him. Similarly, in an interview lead by Richard Goldstein in 1969, Morrison attempts to clarify his thoughts about the process of writing poetry; he states, when you write a poem often you just, you have to be ... Animal Farm and A Modest Proposal Essay Animal Farm and A Modest Proposal Although Animal Farm and A Modest Proposal were written over two hundred years apart, and one is non fiction and the other is not, there are distinct similarities between the two. Both of the pieces are political, with Animal Farm based on the Russian Revolution, and A Modest Proposal based on the situation of homelessness in Ireland. Also, both of the pieces are satirical. Animal Farm ridicules the ordinary Russian people for being gullible, and A Modest Proposal mocks politicians who ignore sensible suggestions and come up with extreme ones. He mainly picks on the animals that are liked by the rest of the farm. He says You, Boxer, the very day those great muscles of yours lose their power, Jones will sell you to the knackers . This makes the other animals more afraid, as thoughts of their friends dying are being put in their minds, and they want to know what they can do to stop it happening. In the seventh paragraph of his speech, he develops the solution to their problems, by suggesting a rebellion, That is my message to you comrades: Rebellion! It is only when he has the audience on his side, that he mentions the rebellion. He has used persuasive techniques to channel their anger towards man, and told them how to solve this problem. In the next paragraph, he warns the animals to never falter, and never listen to anyone when they tell you that man and the animals have a common interest . By warning the animals, it will seem to them that he knows what is going to happen, and what to look out for. This again will make him seem wise. A fight breaks out in the audience, and we are once reminded of the respect that the animals have for Old Major, as he raises his trotter to silence the barn. There is the obvious physical death by cholera, and the cyclical death in nature: in the beginning it is spring and in the end, autumn. We see a kind of death of the ego in Gustav Aschenbach s dreams. Venice itself is a personificationof death, and death is seen as the leitmotif in musical terms. It is also reflected in the idea of the traveler coming to the end of a long fatiguing journey. It must also be noted there are no women in the story with prominent roles. It is ironic that Aschenbach, who had written his book The Abject as a rebuke to the excess of a psychology ridden age (13) succumbs to an egoless state, not only in the last grotesque dream, but directly after it in his conscious mind as well. From this point on, Gustav becomes totally shameless. (We have seen this theme of loss of shame as being a kind of death, and actually leading to literal death as well, in Salman Rushdie s Shame.) Mann s use of Venice as a backdrop is critical. Venice, an ancient city, inexorably sinking beneath the water, a forbidden spot (38) with stagnant lagoons (28) the fallen queen of the sea (36). Venice, with a faintly rotten scent (37) half fairy tale, half snare (55) that hid sickness for love of gain . . . (56). The city that had a disreputable secret [like] his own (57). In musical terms, death is the leitmotif, the theme keeps reappearing: heard in the overture (the first stranger Aschenbach sees in Munich), continually sounded in the Venetian passages (more odd men), swelling to a crescendo of hysterical laughter and swirling pipes of Pan, and, in the ... American Psycho Essay Entrails torn from the body with bare hands, eyes gouged out with razor blades, battery cables, rats borrowing inside the human body, power drills to the face, cannibalism, credit cards, business cards, Dorsia, Testoni, Armani, Wall Street; all of these things are Patrick Bateman s world. The only difference between Bateman and anybody else is what is repulsive to Bateman and what is repulsive to the rest of the world. Bateman has great interest in the upper classlife, fashions, and social existence, but at the same time he is, at times, sickened by the constant struggleto be one up on everybody else. On the other hand Bateman s nightlife reveals a side of him never seen during the day. Bateman is relaxed, impulsive, and confident... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bateman is in a way sickened by the everyday all American life he leads, while the reader is sickened by the flip side of Patrick Bateman. From the beginning of the novel Bateman seems content with his life style. He seems perfectly happy with the daily lunch tickets at Nell s, the Yale Club, etc. He seems fascinated and absorbed with the details of peoples wardrobes, especially his own. But if you sift through all the talk of food, cocktails, and hardbodies, the reader will find a subtle boredom or frustration even early in the novel. While waiting on food at a table at Nell s, Bateman is momentarily diverted from the conversation by one of his thoughts of sex or violence that seem to escalate in frequency throughout the novel. I think about Courtney s legs, spread and wrapped around my face, and when I look over at Luis in one brief flashing moment his head looks like a talking vagina and it scares the bejesus out of me, moves me to say something while mopping the sweat off my brow. (108) These thoughts seem to come to Bateman most frequently at these types of situations. Wealthy friends, wealthy strangers, and a wealthy environment surround him. Either consciously or subconsciously Bateman s mind diverts itself from the monotonous world that Bateman grows to loathe, to a world that Bateman loves. • 20. Standardized Testing Is Necessary For Education Assessment, assessment, assessment, it is not fun and no student in their right mind would argue otherwise but testing is necessary. This one word has become the centerpiece of education not only in the United States but in the entire westernized world. Standardized testing has been used to measure teacher quality and student achievement since the mid 1800s. Within the last two decades standardized testing has taken on an important role in educationin all 50 states since its mandate by President Bush s No Child Left Behind Act. The use of standardized testing to measure progress, identify strengths and weaknesses, and help professionals reach competency in their careers are critical to improvement of the educational system. There are many facts about standardized achievement testing: the public wants it, other nations may do it better, and many critics offer no viable alternatives to it (Haladyna, 2006). President George W. Bush signed No Child Left Behind into law on January 8, 2002, thus re authorizing six more years of Johnson s historic Elementary and Secondary Education Act initiative. The No Child Left Behind Act aims to reform education by improving academic standards, with goals such as: holding states more accountable for results, creating greater flexibility at the state and local levels, expanding options and choice for parents, emphasizing teacher quality and effective teaching methods, and confirming states progress (Fritzberg 2004, p. 11). Thus, the seven commandments were organized to guide all of the animals to practice patience, control, compromise and peace (Pg. 16 17 Symbolic Interaction is the view of social behavior that emphasizes linguistic or gestural communication. • 22. Child Malnutrition And A Lack Of Child Psycho Social Child malnutrition and a lack of child psycho social stimulation is a problem that faces many nations. Some countries are more successful than others at solving this problem through social programs. Social programs aimed at providing children with proper nutrition and psycho social stimulation should be a social and political priority. Introduction Finance is all about the proper allocation of capital. Nations can sometimes make investments that private firms cannot because the capital expenditures are just too vast. A few successful public investments that come to mind are the interstate system and NASA. However, it could be argued that people are our most valuable assets. We invest in our own people through our various education systems, healthcare systems, along with other social programs. If we realize that proper investments can be made into improving the quality of life of all people one would soon come across the idea that our children are of the upmost priority. In particular, ensuring that all children have access to adequate nutrition, enriching educational environments, and a loving social unit proves to be one of the wisest investments that a nation can make. The current risks to our children and solutions for how we can invest in our children s well being and development will be analyzed. A case will be made on why a shift in Western perspective is practical when approaching an implementation of social programs. Risks Child malnutrition poses a myriad of ... Consequently, once a person s color is determined, it seems a class structure is established, a structure that not only describes the individual s social, political, but also their economic standards. Throughout most of nineteenth century literature that we have read it s apparent, the class structure consisted of whites and blacks. Much of the literary works of the time stressed that to be black meant being despised and discriminated against by the white population. Moreover, the literature such as Our Nig portrayed whites as domineering and superior as they essentially controlled many black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a thorough analysis of the racial identity of a mulatto, and a look at the lives of mulatto characters in works by Charles W. Chesnutt, Harriet Wilson and Wallace Thurman an understanding of what it means to be mulatto can be realized. In the works we discussed, a mulatto was usually the offspring of a black woman and a white man; however, the key to comprehending the racial identity of a mulatto is much more deeper. A mulatto is constantly faced with the difficult task of struggling between two races that in the past have been in conflict with each other. In addition, they are faced with mixed feelings from the fellow pure bread black members. For example, in Blacker the Berry, Emma character, a mulatto encounter constant resentment and possible envy by not only blacks because of her lighter skin tone, but also from white peers. Even in present society, this is a reality of which many non blacks are unaware, and which most blacks would prefer to overlook, rather than resolve. It was these revelations that authors like Chesnutt, Wilson, and Thurman attempted to bring insight on. Charles W. Chesnutt was born in Cleveland in 1858, to free parents of mixed racial heritage, and raised in Fayetteville, N.C. His youth in North Carolina as a mulatto was very influential in most of his works. • 31. William Butler Yeats The Second Coming In William Butler Yeats The Second Coming, the poet makes phrases such as; the best lack of conviction of stony sleep (19) and the falcon cannot hear the falconer (2). The phrases are useful in suggesting various thematic concerns of the poem as well asserting separation of ideas and events that occur during the time when Yeats is writing his work. Different interpretations of the stanzas may bring a connection of the antagonism of people and events that Yeats foresees. For instance, the falcon separates from the falconer, the lion having the head of a human being (sphinx) and things falling apart indicate contradicting forces that work to build history at the time. The analysis of the poem is on the basis of contradicting forces that separate modernity from the ancient world. Yeats introduces the poem by referring to a falcon that flies away from the falconer who happens to release it. Shockingly, the falcon cannot hear its master but it continues wheeling at far distance from the falconer. The separation between the falcon and the falconer presents a metaphorical incidence that is worth to interpret. For instance, it is possible that the disassociation represent the young ones, acting as falcons, and separate themselves from the old order of the society. Notably, the modern children may be adopting new societal principles different from the ones that their parents and grandparents prescribe during the Yeats time. Such societal engagements may touch on music, new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is probably a good bet that the interpretation and analysis of people s dreams has been part of society in one form or another as long as we have been having dreams. Early man must have found dreams to be both frightening and fascinating and must have been confused by this bizarre manner of consciousness. It is clear that many ancient civilizations placed great significance on the events occurring in dreams as well as the possible meaning of these dreamstate events. These interpretations were used to help shed light on the events that occurred in their waking lives. This paper briefly reviews the history of dream interpretation, from early civilizations to psychological theories to modern biologically oriented theories. Information about early dream interpretation comes from several different sources: Mesopotamia The people of Mesopotamian (now Iraq) left behind some of the earliest pictographic writings dating back to approximately 3100 B.C. (Oppenheim, 1956). By 2700 B.C. they also used a cuneiform writing type consisting of marks on clay tablets and cylinders. It is in these writings that the earliest recorded notions of dream interpretations occur. The king Gudea, who ruled around 2220 B.C., had several dreams preserved that tell the story of a puzzling dream he had and his quest using a goddess s help to understand its meaning. This is one ... The curriculum should focus on grammar, punctuation, usage, mechanics, writing style, organization and clarity and non traditional compositions. These courses should be hands on, letting students learn from experience; there is only so much you can learn by reviewing someone else s work. Yet, I have been in many writing courses where we hardly wrote. This caused the students writing skills to become rusty; we as students lost interest and no longer participated because of it. Having a writing course turned into a writing seminar is not only false advertising, but it caters more to the teacher s comfort zone and need to be in control of what the students read and write. This leaves students trying to gratify their teachers to get a good grade, rather than improving their skills. In A guide to Composition Pedagogies by Gary Tate, Amy Rupiper and Kurt Schick, there is a section on the educationbehind the writing curriculum that states: The student writes the wrong thing, for the wrong reason, to the wrong person [...] he writes about a subject he is not thoroughly informed upon in order to exhibit his knowledge rather than explain something the reader does not understand, and he writes to a professor who already knows more than he does about the matter [...] (page 156). This mutation prevents the Cl from leaving the cell causing the amount of sodium (Na+) in epithelial cells, which results in extreme mucus on the lungs and airways causing this disease to be fatal if not treated but treatment does not equate to a long lifetime. During the lab we took the data from three parts: Diffusion, Osmosis in an Elodea Cell, and finally the Role of Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis. During Part 1 we looked at diffusion across a semipermeable membranefor starch and glucose, which resulted in both having a negative solution when placed in a semipermeable membrane. Then we looked at osmosis in the Elodea Cell to watch for the occurrence of Plasmolysis, when a cell s plasma membrane pulls away from the cell, and how a plant cell is affected by both hypertonic and hypotonic solutions. Finally, we observed the role of Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis using dialysis bags to represent a normal cell and a Cystic Fibrosis cell with the normal containing 1% NaCl while the Cystic Fibrosis bag contained 10% NaCl. After we ran the experiment, we looked at the Percent Change in Mass and compared them after 30 minutes. We found that Cystic Fibrosis cells didn t change mass as much as the normal cell ending with a change in mass over 1%. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay about Labor Unions’ Involvement in Politics External advocacy and political involvement is deeply engrained in the culture of labor unions. Bill Fletcher Jr. writes myth 8: the union uses our money for political action and I have no say in the matter, in his novel They re Bankrupting Us And 20 Other Myths about Unions. In this myth, Bill Fletcher Jr. addresses unions and how they take political action. Labor unions often take political action in a controversial way, while not always getting full advantage of their work. Fletcher says that when unions and politics come together, people especially interpret unions missions and their power critically. He does not expand on how he titles the myth, but skims the surface on union consensus regarding politics. The myth is about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a member did not support the union s choice of candidate, the member could easily refuse to give money. Politics within the union movement have narrowed and less people are involved in making decisions, due to the disengagement of members in political affairs. However, at the level of political action, Fletcher states that engagement can only be achieved through dialogue with union members. When members are engaged in political action, their views are respected. From the beginning, union involvement in political and legislative matters has been a component of unions and their external advocacy. When labor unions first began forming, political parties that represented the interests of the workforce began forming as well. However, due to the bipartisan power in the United States, it is hard for third parties to succeed electorally, which ultimately ended the idea of a labor party. This is why the American Federation of Labor believed that labor should not form its own parties, but should lobby the current two party system. With the lack of a labor party, labor unions often back the Democratic Party, even though Democrats may not always act in favor of the labor force. Some may see lobbying the two parties as counter productive, since the influence of wealth and the corporate world takes some sort of precedence to the labor unions. Although many ... The School Of Thought And The Field Of Psychology The school of thought and its central contribution to the field of psychology Carl Roger s central contribution to the field of psychology involved his theory of personality. This theory was unique with the capability to be applied in various domains of helping professions including psychotherapy and counseling, education, organizations, cross cultural relations, and other group settings (n/a, 2015). In the evolving stage of this theory, Roger s had been frustrated with the authoritative analysis being imposed on the clients in the current therapeutic techniques that were being implemented at the time. In his work, he began to expand on the Freudian psychoanalytic climate during his work in the Institute for Child Guidance learning about the different approaches that others used (Hall, 1997). In this period of his career, he became interested in the Rankin approach that emphasizes the positive characteristics of the individual. This approach also looked at the quality of the therapeutic relationship and focused on responding to these feelings which led him to publish his first book The Clinical Treatment of the Problem Child, published in 1939 (Cain, 2004). Later, he was offered a teaching position in the psychology department at Ohio State University which later he found he was advancing on a new approach to psychotherapy which he published his second book, Counseling, and Psychotherapy: Newer Concepts in Practice that became later know as client centered counseling are just a few of his publications (Patterson, 1977). Five years later Rogers was given the opportunity to create a counseling center and select his own staff which included Virginia Axline, Eugene Gendlin, Jules Seeman, Tom Gordan, and others (Cain, 2004). In the creation of this counseling center, Rogers, and his colleagues refined the concepts and practices of client centered therapy. These concepts were applied to other areas of study such as education and leadership, and the conduction of the first large scale research project that evaluated the effectiveness of ... He was famous for writing poems reflecting life and our sentiments. He uses symbolisms, metaphors, and more importantly his personal influences. Frost s poems teaches everyone to understand the morals in life. In the end of the poem, readers are left to salvage the hidden messages (morals) and to understand. The last lone aster is gone , The heart is still aching to seek (2 Frost, par 3), a symbolic reference of the death of Elinor (his wife) emotionally broke his heart, thus the ache. His last stanza, To yield with grace to reason, And bow and accept the end (2 Frost, par 4), in all that has happen whether we question it or not. We will accept the outcome and proceed on. Paul Karason died in September of 2013, Karason gained fame after appearing on the Today Show in 2008 for having blue skin due to argyria (Netburn. 2013). Karason s argyria was caused by his ingestion of silver, he drank colloidal silver to treat his dermatitis (Netburn. 2013). Colloidal silver has been marketed on the internet as a treatment for a very wide variety of illnesses, one manual claims that it treats over 650 known conditions (Claussen, 2012, p.14). (Alexander, 2009, p.290) During the period 1800 to 1900 dressings with silver nitrate were used to treat skin ulcers and other types of wounds (Alexander, 2009). In the 1880 s, Doctor Carl Siegmund Franz Crede introduced the use of silver nitrate eye drops to successfully prevent gonorrheal ophthalmia in newborns (Alexander, 2009, p.291). In the period between 1900 and 1940, colloidal silver was consumed by patients and silver was also given intravenously; but it was later discovered in high doses parenterally, the silver could cause gastrointestinal disturbances, convulsions or death (Alexander, 2009, p.291). The use discovery and use of antibiotics has resulted in greatly decreased use of parenteral silver products by today s allopathic doctors. Treatment Methods Kevin Trudeau in his book Natural cures they don t want you to know about , writes that gargling with colloidal silver is a treatment for bacterial infection, viral infection, Candida and even for parasites (2004). (Just Say Yes.org)Many factors influence individual s perception of his or her own appearance. Media has greatly increased the ideal image of beauty. Barbie, models, and actors give people false hope that they will look just like them, and if they look different then they aren t beautiful. Social media and peer pressures influence the way teens see themselves. To fix this problem people need to learn to self love, respect themselves, and understand that people on TV were given the job because of the way they look to appeal to the audience. First of all, since the growth of the Internet in 1980s the public has been bombarded with media driven ideas of what characteristics are desirable for men and women. Women tend to want to look like models they see on advertisements which is usually thin with nice curves. Men also tend to want to look like models on advertisements, which consists of being tall, slender, muscular, and toned. Overall, men and women want to keep changing ... That quote stuck with me for some time and led me to dive deeper into the politics of public space and how it could relate to this piece. The final component to this piece is the definition of place and lens within the city s legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy in public spaces is nonexistent in american culture. Youth are trained from a young age that adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and during recess. Once the child enters middle school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter spaces without the accompaniment of an adult. Social order dictates that groups of teenagers are something to be fearful of. Place is crucial to the development and well being and of young people. When youth have no public spaces to gather or perform without the risk of being questioned by police this becomes an issue in the health and vitality of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
