Essay How the Elderly Cope with the Death of a Spouse
Ever noticed an elderly couple performing normal daily activities and think to yourself, what would
they do without one another? Many of us have elderly relatives who are either married or have
someone with whom they have a tight bond with, such as a best friend, and we believe they keep each
other alive. We are all born to die, but how we cope with death is different. When someone dies,
persons affected may feel depressed, sad and even angry. Looking at death from a different
perspective, such as a loved one going to a better place, instead of a loss can cause relatives to
celebrate. This is usually the case when the cause of death is natural. When death of a spouse is
because of a traumatic event, love ones are left with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loneliness can be part of the grieving process in such cases where no one can empathize with you.
Loneliness can be prevented by having relatives or friends participate in daily activities such as dinner,
shopping, providing entertainment, and holding conversations. A lonely person may choose not to eat,
bathe and take care of their health because their self worth has diminished. Correspondingly, a person
may avoid going out and isolate themselves. Therefore, it is so important to have someone to check on
a grieving elderly person. Following the death of a companion, the older adult may suddenly become
unhealthy. Elderly widowed people experience a profound degree of loneliness, which has been found
to cause an increase in the level of medical care, medications and mortality (Howie Mcintyre, 2002).
The health of that adult was most likely maintained by the relationship with the now deceased because
they felt they had something to live for. Also, the deceased person could have been providing financial
stability to help pay for medication and food. Now that those resources are taken away, the health of
the older adult may deteriorate increasing stress levels, which in return can present the onset of many
health issues. In addition, when the score (0 76) of ICG is high 6 months after spousal death, the

Gun Control Essay
The mass shooting in Roseburg, Ore. has reignited debate over gun control and gun rights in the
United States. Below are a series of questions drawn from what people have been searching for on
Google since the shooting and an attempt to answer them. What is gun control? Gun control is a broad
term that covers any sort of restriction on what kinds of firearms can be sold and bought, who can
possess or sell them, where and how they can be stored or carried, what duties a seller has to vet a
buyer, and what obligations both the buyer and the seller have to report transactions to the
government. Sometimes, the term is also used to cover related matters, like limits on types of
ammunition and magazines, or technology, like the type that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many mass shootings have been carried out by people who were recognized by those around them as
being deeply disturbed, yet were able to own guns legally. From 1994 to 2004, federal law also
banned the sale of many types of assault rifles and high capacity magazines, but the law expired and
has not been renewed. A few states have assault weapon bans of their own that remain in place. In
fact, most gun controls exist at the state level, with New York, California, New Jersey, Maryland,
Hawaii, Rhode Island, Illinois and Massachusetts being the most restrictive. Some states have more
stringent background check systems than the federal one, for example, and some require checks before
private sales like those at gun shows. Some states require a license or permit to own a gun, but most
do not. Laws on carrying weapons vary enormously. Most states allow anyone who legally owns a gun
to carry it openly, in public, without requiring a license or permit. A few states also have no permit
requirement to carry a concealed gun. Concealed carry requires a permit in most states, but the
majority of those states grant the permits automatically to any legal gun owners who want them. States
also vary in their rules on gun possession in specific settings, like campuses and houses of worship.
For example, in Rhode Island, any person with a concealed carry permit can bring a gun onto the

Summary Of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
P 1: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. It was written in
1970 for his album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox . During this time there was a profound shift in the
struggle for equality as the fight for civil rights gave way to the demand for Black Power. Scott Heron
tried to attract and encourage all people to continue being actively involved in the revolution and not
to just watch it from a safe distance. He also warned people to be wary of the media and their
portrayal of African American society. The song looks at the power of the media not just in observing
society s politics but in shaping them. He reminds us that big corporations own everything we see on
television and even when we do get involved in the revolution, there will be no news coverage on it.
The song aims to denounce the elusive nature of political culture in Nixon s America, and the inability
of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people (Smith). The Revolution Will Not Be
Televised is an example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This line was a popular slogan during the Black Power movement in the 1970s, and it acts as a stand
in or summary for the entire message of the song. By saying The Revolution Will Not Be Televised ,
Gil Scott Heron is saying you cannot just sit down and watch its progress from the comfort of your
own home; you must be involved on the streets. He is urging his community to resist the pessimism of
passivity and to fight actively for the change they want to see. There is also a sense of immediacy to
the message. The revolution is happening now. It is a live event. Even if the mainstream media and
those capitalist puppets who control it allowed such a movement to be documented, their efforts
would be delayed. They would never be able to capture the hearts of the people fighting in real time in

A House Divided Against Itself Analysis
From as far back as 1981, people have been pushing for English as the official language in America.
As much as 87% of the American voting population supports the universal acceptance of English as
the country s de facto language. But mankind is notorious for wanting things that aren t best for them;
the question must be asked: should English truly become the backbone language for the U.S.?
Republican lawmaker Steve King states, A nation divided by language cannot pull together as
effectively as a people. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) King references Abraham Lincoln s speech ( A
House Divided against Itself ) and the biblical (Mark 3:25, King James Bible) expression, A house
divided against itself is a house that cannot stand, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steve King is not alone in his thinking the Tower of Babel s production was put to an abrupt
conclusion when God intervened and striped the people of their unifying force: language. Through
division of language, mankind was unable to finish the Tower of Babel or reach their fullest potential.
(Genesis 11: 1 9, New James Bible). America s Founding Fathers seem to agree; David Simpsons
writes, Language is seen as a potential element in constituting a political and cultural unity among the
citizens of the new republic; or, if it goes wrong, a means of prescribing or perpetuating disorder. King
further embellishes his thoughts: A common language is the most powerful unifying force known
throughout history. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) The 100 Years War, for instance, is a crucial
component to English s modern day significance. During this struggle, French became the Language
of the Enemy. English evolved into a substitute, as an avenue for people to oppress their enemy and
aggregate their resilience together. (Wallet; Rosanne E. Lortz) One language unifies, but multiple
languages cause a schism between men. Take Truman s decision to drop the atomic bombs on
Hiroshima; it was

Rivers And Streams Receiving Urban Runoff Essay
Introduction
Rivers and streams receiving urban runoff have been shown to be toxic to aquatic species (e.g. H.
azteca), due to the presence of pyrethroids (Budd et al., 2007; Weston and Lydy, 2010; Weston et al,
2014). These pyrethroids are greatly toxic, with acute species mortality possible at even small
concentrations of one part per trillion (Weston and Jackson, 2009), yet urban runoff regularly contains
concentrations greater than 20 parts per trillion (Weston and Lydy, 2012). A significant part of the
runoff from urban areas encompassing Sacramento, California flows to the American River. Thus, the
toxic level of the rivers and tributaries of the American River and its sensitivity to aquatic species has
been studied through modeling efforts (Jorgenson et al, 2013). Urban runoff, which contains a
considerable amount of bifenthrin, a subset of pyrethroids, makes up a large portion of the river flow
after a storm event. Due to increased use of bifenthrin in Sacramento County, bifenthrin concentration
can be as high as 0.018 ppb, which is more than 5 times the 96 h middle effective concentration
(EC50) for loss of motion to most aquatic species (Weston et al., 2009; Holmes et al., 2008; Hintzen et
al., 2009; Weston and Lydy, 2010). The aggregated sum of pyrethroids active ingredient (A.I.) used by
licensed professional pesticide applicators in Sacramento County, California, was estimated as
4,025,246 lbs. in 2014, and among this, structural pest control and landscape

Balanced Scorecard Case Study
The Impact of using Balanced Scorecard on Strategic Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This research paper describes an overview of the theoretical
background of the Balanced Scorecard as well as describing the historical foundation and the
development of its theories. A company s success will have a correlation with its strategy. However, if
an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the company, they may
experience a low rate of success and may fail eventually. The strategy of a company is often aligned to
the mission, vision and core values of an organization along with a well thought out plan that will give
a company an advantage compared to its competitors. Kaplan and ... Show more content on

Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides
the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P.
1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the
ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able
to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach
that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer,
internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the
organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the
scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy. The outcome measures of
the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance and the performance drivers
that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. S. and Norton, D. P.

Soviet Revolution And The Soviet War
When the USSR collapsed the Cold War was ended, along with the spread of communism. In the year
1991, the USSR lost control of several Baltic States. Harsh living conditions and oppressive policies
stirred rebellion in the people. Russian President Gorbachev tried in vain to restore power by first
withholding, vital supplies like oil and raw materials from the Baltic States, or even used force...where
hundreds of people were killed (Paxton 651). When deprivation and violence failed, Gorbachev
persuaded member republics of the USSR to sign a new union treaty establishing a looser federation
of sovereign states (Paxton 651). Although, he had meant to strengthen communism, Gorbachev s
bloody tactics lost support of progressives, as well as, conservatives. The final signature of the union
treaty was blocked by a coup led by Boris Yeltsin, later he would become president of the Russian
Federation. Secession movements brought civil war to Russia. On September sixth 1991, the Baltic
States declared full independence with heartland regions similarly minded. Now considered obsolete,
the USSR was replaced with a new Commonwealth of Independent States. Gorbachev resigned and
Yeltsin assumed control. The Soviet Union no longer existed.
Before, the Communist Soviet Union was the unifying threat that brought NATO into existence, but
now that danger was gone. NATO could accept one of two fates, it must either consider a new

Epic Journeys In Beowulf, The Heroic Hero
Ever since the beginning of the spoken word, poets and authors have written about leaders, heroes,
people who impact their own part of the world and other who change the course of history and leave a
legacy that affects the entire world. These poets and authors recognize that the heroic leader is a
universal theme that resonates with people in every age. Even today, we demand traits in our leaders
that we learned from Beowulf, King Lear, Milton s version of Satan, and Oroonoko.
From the earliest stories to today s popular television show, Game of Thrones, humans have been
inspired and mesmerized by tales of heroism and the hero s epic journey. Perhaps the reason for this
abiding interest in epic journeys is because many of the themes are ... Show more content on

In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth (196 197). He wrenched off Grendel s arm and Beowulf
was granted the glory of winning. Glory or winning a great battle was an important feat to accomplish
in the Middle Ages, as knights and explorers sought God, gold, and glory. Glory also implies honor,
which Beowulf displayed when he chose to fight Grendel in hand to hand combat, The captain of evil

gather his strength to fight the dragon until he finally triumphed. As his life ends, he tells Wiglaf that
he was proud of his time as a ruler and of his strength, No king of any neighboring clan would dare
face me with troops, none had the power to intimidate me (2732 2736). Throughout the tale, Beowulf

Matheny s Views on Ulitarianism and Factory or Farm Animals
In this paper I will explain in detail the premises of Matheny s view and his argument of refraining
from eating the product from factory farms, and then offer an objection to it. Matheny states in
Utilitarianism and Animals that we should refrain from eating the products from factory farms. The
first premise of Matheny s argument is the principle of equal consideration of interests. To be fair, just,
and benevolent, any ethical rule we adopt should respect this principle. The second premise of
Matheny s argument is that eating factory farmed products is considered to be ethically wrong. The
conclusion of Matheny s argument is we should not eat factory farmed products. To summarize
Matheny s Utilitarianism and Animals with a quote, We can change the way we live, and eat. Below
are the following premises: 1. You should act in such a way as to maximize the expected satisfaction
of interests in the world, equally considered. 2. Eating factory farmed products does not maximize the
expected satisfaction of interest in the world, equally considered. 3. Therefore, we should not eat
factory farmed products. Utilitarianism is an ethical theory with the rule, act in such a way as to
maximize the expected satisfaction of interests in the world, equally considered. We try to act in such
a way that considers everyone s pains and pleasures. With this in mind, we have to discover what truly
makes others happy. We should not ignore those that are affected by our behavior.

Market Entry Options Adopted By Starbucks Essay
Market Entry Strategy
Purpose: To evaluate the various market entry options adopted by Starbucks to enter China and their
initial marketing strategy to promote Starbuck s in China. These will provide insights into how critical
market entry can be to the future success of the company in a new market.
Analysis: Starbucks s international expansion strategy is to use, licensing or joint venture partnerships
to enter new markets. Starbuck uses the local partners to negotiate local regulations and other country
specific issues, which has made this company successful in expanding into foreign market.
In entering China, Starbuck looked for local partners and considering the complexity of Chinese
market, they partnered with three regional partners. In the north, Starbucks entered a joint venture
with Beijing Mei Da coffee company. In the east, Starbucks partnered with the Taiwan based Uni
President. In the south, Starbucks worked with Hong Kong based Maxim s Caterers. (Wang, 2012) For
its first store in Beijing it worked with its partner Beijing Mei Da coffee company, which was
previously the distribution agent for Starbuck s wholesale operations. (AdvertisingAge, 1998)
Working with local partnerships, provided Starbucks with access to local knowledge, and people.

Evaluating the Limitations of Post-Traumatic Amnesia Essay
Evaluating the Limitations of Post traumatic Amnesia as a Severity Scale Traumatic brain injuries
(TBI) account to a third (30.5%) of all injury related deaths in the U.S. with an estimated 1.7 million
individuals sustaining TBI each year (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010).
Classifications of brain injury (e.g., mild, moderate and severe) is mostly done using the Glasgow
coma scale (GCS) which has gained broad acceptance for the assessment of the severity of brain
damage (Bauer Fritz, 2004). Recent studies suggest that almost all patients with moderate or severe
TBI have a period of recovery during which they are responsive but confused. This state is commonly
referred to as the post traumatic amnesia. Post traumatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, they also assess the magnitude of the brain injury through magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI; Wilson et al., 1993). The data in this study support earlier research connoting that patients have
short coma but report prolonged PTA. They found that patients showed substantially more extensive
hemispheric damage when patients with perpetuated PTA ( 7 days) and short coma ( 6 hours) when
compared in the acute stage of MRI. Researchers conclude that although both coma and PTA are
related to brain damage they still reflect disparate patterns of lesions. Thus, PTA assessment remains
as a valuable measure by providing additional information concerning the severity of injury (Wilson et
al., 1993). The duration of PTA is retrospectively measured by most studies at interview by
catechizing the patient about their memories around the time of injury (Greenwood, 1997). Critics
pose significant concerns regarding the retrospective method due to the lack of standardized protocol,
undocumented prospective measurement of episodic memory, and questionable reliability issues
(McMillan, Jongen, Greenwood, 1996; Tate et al., 2000). One of the issues is that clinicians often rely
on the patient s own judgment and the relatives memory for events. Many find this problematic due to
the potential contingency of confabulations right after traumatic injury (McMillan et al., 2012). In
addition, concerns were

Overview Of The Jinn
Introduction
The topic of Jinn in Islam is definitely a fascinating one, as man has an innate curiosity about the
supernatural and unseen. Unfortunately, this topic is also one that is replete with misconceptions. This
essay will explore the world of the Jinn through the Qur aan and authentic Sunnah.
Creation and Existence of Jinn
The Jinn possess some characteristics of human beings, such as the ability to think and reflect and the
ability to choose between good and evil, but they are different in their origin and creation. We are
informed by Allah that the Jinn are created from fire:
And the jinn, We have created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. (Qur aan 55:27)

This analogy teaches us the best way to protect oneself: by seeking refuge and protection in Allah.
We are equipped with many weapons against Shaytaan and the Jinn in general from the Sunnah. These
include being in constant remembrance of Allah, seeking refuge in Allah before entering the

The world of the Jinn is one which is both sinister and intriguing. Knowing about it can explain many

In the middle of 2002, they felt that they were on the verge of a breakthrough in the commercialization
of a new technology that their firm, Performance Indicator, LLC, had developed to let golfers know
when a used golf ball had suffered performance degradation due to immersion in water hazards like

The U.S. Golf Association (USGA) specified the characteristics of legal balls within tight parameters.
These restrictions on size, weight, materials, texture, etc., seemingly left little room for product
innovation. In fact, the USGA regulations specified not just what went into a ball, but how it could
perform, stipulating to within 10 20 yards how far the ball could travel when hit by a certain type of
club traveling at a certain speed, all verified under controlled conditions with robotic testing
equipment. Nonetheless, new product introductions were rampant in the industry, with slight changes
in surface coatings and dimple patterns, for example, being touted for their ability to add a handful of
yards to a golfer s shots, to give more accuracy, or to create greater control through faster spin on the
ball. In addition, ball manufacturers spent millions of dollars on advertising campaigns for their balls.
There were three basic types of balls, all conforming to the same general specifications. The oldest
technology still in use was the three piece ball, which consisted of a core, windings, and a cover; this
ball was good for spin and overall control. The second, and most popular, type of ball was the
twopiece ball, which eliminated the windings of the three piece ball; this ball produced more distance.

The Impact Of Ansel Adams On The Conservation Movement
Assess the impact of Ansel Adams as an influential figure in the conservation movement Intro
America s National Parks are deeply indebted to the American photographer Ansel Adams. Through
his masterful photography, he turned Yosemite National Park into an American icon. Ansel spent the
majority of his life fighting for the National Parks through intense political activism. He was a key
figure in conservation in the United States, beginning in a time when environmental conservation was
a rare concept.
From a young age he showed uncommon interest in wilderness and the outdoors and grew into one of
the personalities most responsible for defining what American wilderness means. In his twenties,
Ansel demonstrated incredible mastery of the young art form of photography. Through his friendships
and collaboration with other artists and environmentalists and through his many prestigious art shows
and published collections he gained fame. He used his fame, strong personal voice and persuasive
activism for environmental conservation causes such as ... and for environmental organizations such as
the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Society. In particular, Ansel Adams was inspired and captivated by
Yosemite at a young age and found the mountains to be his calling. His passion to preserve the park he
experienced as a young boy fueled his efforts.

Date Rape in the Philippines
Chapter I
Introduction
He said he loved me , I woke up without any clothes on, I couldn t remember , I thought we were
friends . These are just some of the phrases that a lot of rape victims have reiterated. Women that have
long been taken advantage of for men s sexual pleasure, it is the same in every country, not just in the
Philippines. Women have been fighting all throughout their history to gain equality, to rise from
oppression, to release themselves from male domination, that fight is still ongoing. There is a
quotation from the bible taken from genesis II lines 21 23; And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to
fall upon Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh thereof. And the rib

p. 69). rape is violence against women. It is a violation of her body and her trust. According to Burns,
a sociologist at Michigan State University, rape is forced and unwanted intercourse, where sexual
assault is used as a power and sex is a method (Mousseau, 2006. p. 1). Most rapes are committed not
by strangers, but by men known to women, perhaps someone they have gone out with or are
supposedly their friends. It can be someone she just met or even her fiancé, but often it is an attempt to
assert power or anger. A study by the National Center for the Preventive and Control rape claims
ninety percent of rapes are never reported. In those that are reported, sixty percent knew their
assailants. Of these, women fifteen to twenty five are majority of the victims. Alcohol and drugs
sometimes play a significant factor, especially in date rape or acquaintance rape cases (Mousseau,

In the Philippines rape is very apparent as well, the article of Toliño Mendoza presents the Philippine
national police statistics for the year 2009. A total of 3,159 rape cases were reported to the authorities

Embryonic Stem Cell Research And Current Use
Introduction:
The issue at discussion in this report is ESCR (embryonic stem cell research) and current use. This
issue causes controversial concerns because the first isolation of the embryo was in 1998, which is still
very recent and the policies around it are grey areas. Many countries including the United States of
America have removed funding because of issues that have risen due to religious, ethical and legal
formalities. Some of the benefits that ESC (embryonic stem cells) promise are the cure for many
diseases and even the creation of organs between other scientific advances that could save numerous
lives. The benefits that ESC could provide are sometimes questioned to be worth all the ethical issues
that they bring. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process to isolate an embryonic cell demands de inner cell of a blastocyst. A blastocyst can be
described as one of the earlier stages of an embryo, which is reached at about four to five days after
fertilization. In the blastocyst stage, the future embryo is not formed by more than fifty to a 150 cells.
In the blastocyst stage the cell is comprised of an external layer called trophoblast and the inner cell
mass comprised of approximately thirty cells which following normal procedures becomes the embryo
and the trophoblast, the placenta. In the process to cultivate the stem cell, the blastocyst must die as
the inner cell mass is removed. This practice has been legalized since 2002 in Australia but strict
guidelines in regards to licenses as to who is able to perform research and what is permitted in their
research must be met.
Alternative Views and their Explanation:
Dr. James Douglas professor and chair, cell and developmental biology director for Center of
Organogenesis has specialised and dedicated most of his career to research how tissues and organs are
generated in mammals and how cells are instructed to become specialised cells. Similarly, Dr. Eva L.

and director at ALS clinic has devoted her latest years in the field to conduct innovative research to
generate stem cell technology to treat ALS by injecting stem cells into the spinal cord.

The Pros And Cons Of Andrew Jackson
President Andrew Jackson served as President of the United States from 1826 to 1837 and is looked at
my many as one of the best presidents in American history. Jackson was a man without many limits
and did what he wanted because he simply wanted to do it, not because it was necessarily the popular
opinion or Constitutional. This caused a lot of problems, but also was very beneficial in making
solutions to problems in the country. Although, as a result of this, many people saw him as a dictator
like tyrant and didn t agree with his pandering towards the uneducated, more working class civilians
during his campaign. President Jackson s presidency was controversial as a result in debate over his
political tactics as well as possibly overstepping his Constitutional boundaries when it came to the
amount of power he exuded on the people; therefore, many people spoke out against his uneducated
followers as well as his aggressive style while some evidence shows that these efforts were supported.
Firstly, Jackson was the first president to ever pander to those who weren t educated, rich, and well
cultured. Coming from humble beginnings, Andrew Jackson sympathized with the average, everyday
citizen and wished to represent their opinions rather than just those of the wealthy. As shown in
Document 7, a pie graph showing the rise in the turnout of voters from 1824 to 1844 reveal a dramatic
increase in voter turn out when Jackson first ran for President compared to the previous

The Heat Transfer Of A Forced Draft Cooling
Abstract
The aim of this experiment is to analyse the heat transfer of a forced draft cooling water tower and to
perform energy and mass balances on the system. The system consisted of a single cooling tower
where the heated water flowed down the tower, while air flow was directed against the water flow. In
the system the energy consumption of the heating element, the flow rate of the heated water and
pressure could be adjusted. Measured properties in the system include the wet and dry bulb
temperatures at the inlet and outlet, the temperature of the water in and out, the make up temperature
and the pressure. The power to the heat is predetermined as well as the water mass flow rate. The
enthalpy, absolute humidity and the specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Water is more commonly used due to its higher heat transfer coefficient, resulting in a smaller
required surface area for cooling. The downside to water based cooling systems is that once the water
has heated it must be cooled before it can be used again, this is a problem when trying to minimalise
heat pollution. Due to the need for cooling of the water used, systems such as cooling water towers
were developed. This is the most common method of cooling for recirculated water in chemical
process industries. While water is fed down the tower, a cooling air flow is fed up through a system of
slats that will increase the surface area of the water being cooled. As water falls down through the
tower some of it will evaporate, this acts to further cool the stream as more heat is expelled in the form
of latent heat. The aim of this report is to analyse the heat transfer of a forced draft cooling tower and
to perform energy and mass balances on the system. The Bench Top Cooling Tower H891, with six
thermometer readings, two wet and dry bulbs at the top and bottom of the system, was put into a
steady state where measurements were made.

Richard Lerderer s Influence Of The English Language
Some of the examples Richard Lerderer gives to explain the widespread influence of the English
language are English has acquired the largest vocabulary of all the world s languages . He Also says
half of the world s books are written in English, and majority of international calls are made in English
. Another important example is that English is universally spoken. I do believe that English is a crazy
language. It is a language that is constantly being changed as far as the urban dictionary is concerned.
Phrases are used by younger people that are not literal. For example Lerderer says How can a Slim
chance and a fat chance be the same? Slim chance is a catch phrase that most English speakers use to
describe less of a chance. If you look it up in a dictionary you will not find it there. Chance are you
will find it in the urban dictionary. It is not proper English, but if you say it to someone that is fluent in
the English language they will know exactly what you mean. ... Show more content on

Essay On The Banking Concept Of Education
When it comes to the topic of education, most of us will readily agree that as students, we need to be
dedicated learners. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how we should
be educated. Some are convinced that we need to stick with what is currently in place. From this
perspective, it is completely unnecessary to do something different if the method being used works.
However, others maintain that we need to change. According to this view, people need to move away
from what we are comfortable and familiar with in order to be better students. In sum, then, the issue
is whether we should keep how our education works the same or not. My own view is that we need to
change the system of education. Though I concede that sometimes it makes sense to keep what is not
broken, I still maintain that for a better learning experience, we must change. Although some argue
that what is already in place is enough for our education, I claim that stepping outside of our comfort

Freire describes that The banking concept of education, which serves the interests of oppression, is
also necrophilic. Based on a mechanistic, static, naturalistic, spatialized view of consciousness, it
transforms students into receiving objects. It attempts to control thinking and action, leads women and
men to adjust to the world, and inhibits their creative power (261). According to Freire, the banking
concept causes oppression. Under it, students are nothing more than objects that receive knowledge.
Therefore, it is necrophilic, treating the students as if they were dead and could not think. I think that
the banking concept of education restricts students and what they are capable of. Rather than actively
involving the students, the students are fed information from the teachers. The goal of education is for
the students to actually learn, and the only way that can be accomplished is through

Summary
Reforming or limiting itemized tax deductions for individuals has gained the interest of policymakers
as one way to increase federal tax revenue, increase the share of taxes paid by higher income tax
filers, simplify the tax code, or reduce incentives that might lead to inefficient economic behavior.
However, limits on deductions could cause adverse economic effects or changes in the distributional
burden of the federal income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, certain combinations of deduction limits may shift some tax filers to claim the standard
deduction instead of itemizing. In this case, the revenue increase by limiting itemized deduction would

The Influence Of Chicken Katsu In Hawaiian Culture
Food is a enormous aspect of hawaiian culture. Due to the influences of incoming voyagers bringing
new and more agricultural diversity Hawaiian foods shifted and changed. Resulting in the increasing
agriculture there was a higher demand from plantation workers. Plate lunch then became an important
aspect of hawaiian culture providing a quick easy lunch for plantation workers and many others. Plate
lunch is still a very well known and loved dish today in Hawaii and is slowly making its way to the
mainland. More specifically chicken katsu is usually a favorable option on a common plate lunch.
Chicken katsu which originated in Japan has changed and influenced plate lunch and hawaiian culture.
Chicken katsu is a delicious Japanese dish invented in 1899. Katsu is short for katsuretsu the Japanese
transliteration for cutlet. It consists of breaded, deep fried, chicken cutlet a couple centimeters thick. In
Japan it is served with a tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, rice and/or miso soup. It is also commonly
served with rice and a silky curry. In a typical Hawaiian plate lunch chicken katsu is served with a

Bruce Dawe s Poems Migrants And The And A Related...
Journey is an act of travelling from one place to another which can be seeking permanent home in a
different country or travelling in the same country. It can affect different people in many different
ways as they get emotional, intellectual and imaginative experiences individually in their life. All of
these have been explored in some of Bruce Dawe s meaningful poems migrants and drifters and a
related text Still Life which is a short film by Martin Sharpe. The poem migrants was about group of
European migrants seeking permanent home in a completely different country to escape from war and
have better standard of life but the poem drifters was about a family journeying in the same country. In
comparison, the short film, Still Life is about a man who has boring and meaningless life. The
composers employ poetic and film techniques to convey the possible positive and negative
ramifications of journeys. Journeys can have positive and negative consequences on people as it has
been implicated in Dawe s poems and Sharpe s short film. Journeying to a new place shows a contrast
of two cultures and lack of understanding of each other. In the poem migrants , a rhetorical question
did they say All things with similar lack of emphasis? has been used to illustrate the confusion. The
rhetorical question shows confusion on behalf of the migrants and a lack of understanding of the
Australian people and language. The two cultures are contrasted through language as warm and

King s Gothic Naturalism
Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever station
in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess to be
proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of man.
Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s helplessness in
the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an uninspiring idea of
humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). While the deterministic worldview is logical, it is difficult for
many to resonate with powerless and doomed characters. Thus, the only way for the naturalistic frame
of mind to reach a wider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack is a man who struggles to control his temper, especially when under the influence. Growing up
with an abusive father, Jack had taken his lumps when the old man was drunk, which was a lot of the
time, (King 229). That is how his father dealt with all his children. When Jack was seven years old, he
was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock at passing car in anger
(King 160). Jack s father witnessed his behavior and punished him, physically and severely. Having
learned that Jack responds to violence irrationally, one is not surprised when Jack subsequently kicks a
dog into the gutter. Upon getting insight into Jack s past, one should immediately assume that Jack is
predestined to succumb to brutish behavior because he either learned this by watching his father give
his children their medicine or inherited it like a physical trait.
King highlights the extent to which heredity affects Jack when he notes that Jack s father s fate
resembles that of the main character in naturalist author Frank Norris novel, McTeague: A Story of
San Francisco (1977). McTeague is completely deterministic the epitome of naturalistic characters.
McTeague s father was an alcoholic brute, so when McTeague drinks and acts violently, there is no
question as to why he acts in that manner. According to Norris, heredity is more than a pattern of
learned behavior: it is something

The Yolk Sac And Its Effects On The Human Bodies
375 million years ago, a fish like creature crawled onto the land. This transition into an existence on
dry terrain gave rise to amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and finally to humans. As early reptiles
colonized in adverse new environments, they adapted features to help them survive during their
struggles for food and territory. Our reptilian ancestors were changing their bodies and these new
features are evident in our human bodies today. One of these features that link us to our reptilian
ancestors is the yolk sac which is evident in the human embryo as well as the eggs of reptiles. As
reptiles adapted to life on a dry earth, they needed to keep their eggs from drying out an so evolved a
new type of egg which enclosed the embryos in an amnion filled sac and covered it with a hard shell.
Reptiles and humans both carry the yolk gene but it is no longer functional in humans as we evolved
and no longer needed yolk to feed our embryos. But those broken yolk genes are still in our genome
and link us to these ancient egg laying animals. Skin is another important feature that connects us to
reptiles. In order to withstand the dry air on land, reptiles developed layers of dead skin to insulate
them and create a water tight barrier. Humans have inherited these same layers of dead skin to prevent
our bodies from drying out. Our skin not only protects our bodies but it is responsible for other
features which we share with our reptilian ancestors; important structures that originate

Ground investigations are a crucial part of the survey as they determine the nature of the land and
explains the different types of soil which helps identify the type of foundations that should be used or
how water absorbent the soil is. A few stages of a ground investigation include; Trial Pitting, Dynamic
Probe testing/Sampling, Cable Percussive Boreholes and Rotary Boreholes.
Trial Pitting Trial pits can easily be performed by hand but it will take triple the amount of time and
you won t be able to get a good depth to get a good samples. Trial pits are usually dug mechanically
because it is finished much faster and can be dug a lot deeper. Trial pits are normally excavated at
4.5m deep as this provides a good insight of what the foundations will be sitting on and it provides
information if deeper foundations are needed. The advantages of machinery is that greater depths can
be achieved which would result in a more detailed soil sample test etc. A disadvantage of this would
be minor ground disturbance which could cause problems.
Dynamic probe testing/Sampling This can be performed with a tracked percussive or pneumatic

Celebrity and media culture are probably the most overbearing pop culture conditions that we as
young people have to deal with, because it forces us to judge ourselves. Lady Gaga perfectly describes
the corrupt system of celebrity culture. Fame and celebrity culture is nothing new to human nature. As
humans progressed from hunting and gathering, people who have been skilled in war, sports, and art
have captured people s undivided attention. As a result, celebrity gossip is an unhealthy distraction
that undermines public discourse and sidetracks people from far more important issues. Celebrities are
exploited as products to society, set an unrealistic standard of beauty, and the military having to face
improper discrimination and a lack of support compared to professional athletes. Celebrity culture has
banished the real from the public. Thirty years ago, the only celebrities were ones in movies. Breakfast
at Tiffany s skyrocketed Audrey Hepburn s talented acting career. As a result, Audrey remains one of
Hollywood s greatest movie stars and the world s most successful actresses. Now celebrities are
everywhere Talk show hosts, lawyers, musicians and teenagers. Although some may be entertained by
celebrity gossip, the chatter that passes the news ultimately distracts people from important issues.

Breakin Movie Analysis
After watching the movie, Breakin , I find that the film was inspirational, influential and motivational.
Looking at how the young street dancers, Turbo and Ozone as well as Kelly, initially a Jazz dancer to

idea on what hip hop was about, it also shows the true feelings of the break dancers when they are

themselves. They showcase different moves of break dance in the battle, to fight back against their
opponents.
This movie also gives me an idea on hip hop in the 80s. I can clearly see the differences in Hip hop
culture when it was being introduced in the 80s and hip hop that is on going right now in the 20s. One
of the differences was the fashion. In the 80s, tight fitting top, baggy trousers and belt were seen on

Social Media As Forms Of Electronic Communication
When my generation was growing up we used to hear things from our parents like you watch too
much television . Today, that could easily translate to sound like the same in regards to the use of
Social Media. Merriam Webster s Dictionary defines social media as forms of electronic
communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal

interaction with others in the form of file sharing including photos, videos, and real time chat. Some of
the most common and popular social sites are FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Social
Media sites provide numerous entertainment features, as well as a plethora of ways for people from all
over the world to connect with each other, make new friends, or connect with old ones. I feel these
sites truly share a common goal of uniting, connecting, and bringing people closer together but, there
is a dark side to be noted. Social Media, if used in moderation, can be a useful tool indeed but, like
anything else when used excessively, it can be dangerous to our mental health and well being. The
abuse of Social Media can have addictive qualities which may adversely affect ones mental health.
Regardless of its effects though, Social Media is still widely used for various purposes in society and

The director uses lighting in a way that it reflects of the structures of the town square. This creates an
over exposed frame for the scene. The bright lighting shows the happiness within the characters
lives. However in more serious and depressing situations, the camera angles become more still and
consitent with the frame and the lighting becomes dark. The angles remain in a still shot. The lighting
becomes unexpose and fails to show many views of the scenes. For example, the when Guido and
Giosue first enter the sleeping quarters, the angle is very still, and so are the characters. The director
uses a long shot and a full shot to convey the situation of the victims. The more consistent and still
shows illustrate a much more serious tone towards the scene. The lighting was extremely dark and it
intently failed to fully reveal the faces of the crowd of victims and sleeping quarters. This unexposed
lighting creates a more serious tone towards the situations and foreshadowing a depressing future.
Lighting and the angles reveal the mood and tone of the

The Cove Documentary
The uses of documentaries have evolved throughout the decades. With new technologies and
techniques, documentaries often can have a powerful impact on the audiences. A documentary can
manipulate the audiences to evoke a specific emotion to support its cause. Such emotions can be
evoked to a particular degree. Documentaries also have the potential to change one s perspective or
even make a difference in an individual. Imagine your family and friends, safe and sound, and most
importantly, happy. Then suddenly, people with nets come and kidnap your brother and sister and the
rest are killed. It s hard to imagine right? But this is the life of dolphins in Taijin. The Cove, directed
by Louie Psishoyos, exposes the practises of capturing and hunting ... Show more content on

working with dolphins for over 50 years. Furthermore, in one of Ric s interview, Ric talk about his
past life and how he trained the dolphins in the TV show, called Flipper. Rick then explains, when one
of dolphins, Kathy, took her own life, he experienced a deep change of heart. This strong emotional
sentiment establishes sympathy for the dolphins and Ric which appeals to the audience s emotions and
forms mutual trust with Rick. Louie Psihoyos further evoke this sympathy by using anthromorphism
to show that humans and dolphins are very similar in many aspects. These humanising actions are
designed to emotionally connect dolphins and humans which appeal to the audience s emotion to

Graphic Imagery And Designs Evolve Until Production
The process towards architectural construction takes on many forms, including various design stages.
The graphic imagery and designs evolve until production begins. There are undoubtedly many
considerations into a building s design, which stresses their representation as even more important and
influential to its potential construction. Elevation drawings and plans lay out the details of
construction, they are useful to ensure the structure adheres to any local codes, however more detailed
drawings are required for construction known as final renderings.1 Drawings are therefore a
fundamental form of documentation that informs a building s production. On the other hand, the
emergence of archigram in the post war era encouraged the imagination and was a platform that
challenged previous form of representation. Archigram placed as much influence on the context of the
building and depicting its urban surrounding as much as emphasising the building itself. In addition,
architectural photography provoked the emergence of modern forms and structures; however,
contextualizing buildings within the image was unnecessary. It was believed that architecture could
reform people architecture is the art one lives in and thus rational design could make rational
societies.2 This idea was very much a driving force of representation which drawings, photography
and archigram intended to reform their urban landscape. Unlike detailed drawing which provided an
insight into the scale and

To What Extent Is a Counsellor More Than Just a Good...
To what extent is a counsellor more than just a good listener? In your discussion we would like you to
draw on key elements that form the practise of counselling. In addition we would like you to consider
your own qualities and skills and identify what you need to do to progress in the profession. This
century has seen a rise in counselling services. We have counsellors for specific diseases, addictions,
depression, divorce, name the problem and we seem to have a therapist for it. So what are
counsellors? Do we need them? Is that not what friends and family are for, to listen and help us
through difficult times? Is a counsellor just a paid friend ? Can anyone be a counsellor? After all

the time and length of session, cost, what is on offer and how things will progress. Some perspectives
prefer strong boundaries whereby psychoanalysts interact less, letting themselves be the blank canvas
for the client to project onto. Though it may be that, as therapy progresses, boundaries may be relaxed.
Humanistic counsellors tend to become more involved and less rigid in their approach. It is important
to get a verbal agreement on the boundaries to preclude misunderstandings on both sides. Key values
within the framework also include respecting the dignity and rights of the client; integrity is essential
for trust and respect and a sound knowledge base constantly updated ensures appropriate techniques or
interventions to help diminish the suffering and distress of the client. Confidentiality is crucial, the
client must be aware that he is free and safe, in a non judgemental environment, to express all views
and feelings knowing permission will be sought to share anything unless there is a fear of danger to
self or others. Working within an ethical framework like this will help both client and counsellor to
achieve the most from the relationship. Empathy, good listening, and appropriate nonverbal
communication coupled with good language skills are developed alongside being able to divorce
personal beliefs in order to accept how the client looks at the world.

United States Government Expansion Essay
In the last century and a half, the United States Government has grown significantly in size, scope,
and influence. There are many contributing factors to this expansion. The quest for civil rights,
presidential programs and how those programs affected domestic policy, and the foreign policies that
were a result of imperialism, nationalism, and the many conflicts that the nation became involved in
were the biggest catalysts attributing to this progressive development in the government. These effects
have shaped the government from the vision of the Founding Fathers into what it is today. The
expansion of the government s power, particularly the Executive Branch, has its roots in
Progressivism. Based on the ideas of philosophers like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
US protection from Asian countries and the need for a Pacific base were the reasons for getting
Hawaii. Both of these acquisitions would become a huge part of foreign policy and the need for an
expanded government in the coming years. As imperialism extended the country s power and
influence through diplomacy and military might, the policy of non intervention would quickly become
outdated. Due to Britain and France running out of men, money, and material, the US had to get
involved in World War I. This involvement brought about numerous new policies and activities by the
government. The War Industries Board, Food Administration, Railway Board, and the US Shipping
Board came to be. Railroads were nationalized and two new laws, the Espionage Act of 1917 and the
Sedition Act of 1918, were put into effect as a result of US involvement in the war. Hawaii would
become a key part of World War II with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. One of the Cold War battlefields
was Alaska. Due to the Truman Doctrine and its policy of containing communism, the US gor
involved in Korea and later, Vietnam. Domestic policy changes, also tied to Progressivism, were a
major component of the expansion of the size, scope, and influence of the US government. Roosevelt
s Square Deal caused the government to grow because he wanted the government to regulate business
and get more involved in the American economy. Under Taft,

Leadership Styles During The Workplace
Different leadership styles result in various results in the workplace. The Fiedler contingency model
postulates a leader s style is static; however, God can transform anyone s heart and thus their
leadership style. Additionally, the grapevine can be an important tool for employers. As long as each
individual chooses to use gossip for honorable purposes, God will bless the workplace.

Approaches to Leadership
There are many different ways in which individuals lead. Whether implicit or by choice, the style and
the way it is applied can lead to success or failure in the workplace. My boss and I approach
leadership in completely different ways. While my boss leans toward only a transactional style,
specifically Laissez faire, or management by exception, I prefer a combination of transactional and
translational styles. According to Robbins and Judge (2012), Laissez faire is the most passive and
therefore least effective of leader behaviors (Robbins Judge, 2012, p. 382). Additionally, management
by exception is somewhat better, however it remains one of the weakest leadership styles. Leaders
using this style fail to be engaged with the employees unless and until there is an issue requiring their

Thomas Nagel s Theory Of Death Essay
In this paper, I will first elaborate on my understanding of Thomas Nagel s theory as to why death, a
permanent nonexistent state, is an undesirable state of being. I will then argue as to why I believe that
death is a misfortune using the argument that death terminates the positive experience of life as well as
rebut the counter argument for why death is good because it gives meaning to life.
Nagel champions the belief that death, a state of permanent posthumous nonexistence defined as
unsupplemented by any form of conscious survival (769), is an occurrence that harms us. Nagel s first
argument for why death is bad is that it deprives us of life, of which contains various goods that make
life valuable. Nagel supports his argument by saying that if he [the man] had not died, he would have
continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living (772). He continues to list goods
such as perception, desire, activity and thought (769) as he believes that these are the essential
elements to a person meaningful life. Though Nagel concedes that the goods he listed entail both joy
and misery, as they are also fundamental factors of life, he also believes that a life which has more
misery than it does joy is still desirable and should not make death seem like a better option as it ends
the misery. His reasoning for this belief is that while a life may have more negative experiences than
positive experiences, it is still emphatically positive, (770) as the

Censorship In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
After reading Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury in high school, I felt I had a good
understanding on how books and reading have an impact on society. Books allow us to broaden our
imagination, our vocabulary and our intellect. Literature can become a source of debate, ideas,
conversations and enjoyment. Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 depicts how government can censor even the
simplest form of freedom, the enjoyment of reading. Montag, the antagonist, is a fireman trained to
save lives and put out fires, ironically, burns books so people are unable to enjoy the imaginative
world books create. They solely relied on technology for entertainment and opinion, which caused
people to be separated from each other. Bradbury uses the symbolism of censorship to convey how
technology can control society and may lead to an extinction of the human spirit. In the book
Fahrenheit 451, the censorship of books is dictated by the government and carried out by people such
as Montag s captain, Captain Beatty as he has been conditioned by the censorship ... Show more

Bradbury tied in censorship to personal freedom of expression, the First Amendment of the United
States. Bradbury wanted his readers to understand what can happen if the government was allowed to
control every aspect of life, to where people can live, eat, read, watch and have independent thoughts.
Bradbury believed You don t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading
them. English Professor Faber in Fahrenheit 451 in essence was Bradbury s ultra ego, being the voice
of reason, amplifies life and that he is not like the majority of the people afraid to be individuals.
Faber lives his life with meaning, stating I don t talk things, sir. I talk the meaning of things. I sit here

  • 2. Essay How the Elderly Cope with the Death of a Spouse Ever noticed an elderly couple performing normal daily activities and think to yourself, what would they do without one another? Many of us have elderly relatives who are either married or have someone with whom they have a tight bond with, such as a best friend, and we believe they keep each other alive. We are all born to die, but how we cope with death is different. When someone dies, persons affected may feel depressed, sad and even angry. Looking at death from a different perspective, such as a loved one going to a better place, instead of a loss can cause relatives to celebrate. This is usually the case when the cause of death is natural. When death of a spouse is because of a traumatic event, love ones are left with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Loneliness can be part of the grieving process in such cases where no one can empathize with you. Loneliness can be prevented by having relatives or friends participate in daily activities such as dinner, shopping, providing entertainment, and holding conversations. A lonely person may choose not to eat, bathe and take care of their health because their self worth has diminished. Correspondingly, a person may avoid going out and isolate themselves. Therefore, it is so important to have someone to check on a grieving elderly person. Following the death of a companion, the older adult may suddenly become unhealthy. Elderly widowed people experience a profound degree of loneliness, which has been found to cause an increase in the level of medical care, medications and mortality (Howie Mcintyre, 2002). The health of that adult was most likely maintained by the relationship with the now deceased because they felt they had something to live for. Also, the deceased person could have been providing financial stability to help pay for medication and food. Now that those resources are taken away, the health of the older adult may deteriorate increasing stress levels, which in return can present the onset of many health issues. • 3. Gun Control Essay The mass shooting in Roseburg, Ore. has reignited debate over gun control and gun rights in the United States. Below are a series of questions drawn from what people have been searching for on Google since the shooting and an attempt to answer them. What is gun control? Gun control is a broad term that covers any sort of restriction on what kinds of firearms can be sold and bought, who can possess or sell them, where and how they can be stored or carried, what duties a seller has to vet a buyer, and what obligations both the buyer and the seller have to report transactions to the government. Sometimes, the term is also used to cover related matters, like limits on types of ammunition and magazines, or technology, like the type that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many mass shootings have been carried out by people who were recognized by those around them as being deeply disturbed, yet were able to own guns legally. From 1994 to 2004, federal law also banned the sale of many types of assault rifles and high capacity magazines, but the law expired and has not been renewed. A few states have assault weapon bans of their own that remain in place. In fact, most gun controls exist at the state level, with New York, California, New Jersey, Maryland, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Illinois and Massachusetts being the most restrictive. Some states have more stringent background check systems than the federal one, for example, and some require checks before private sales like those at gun shows. Some states require a license or permit to own a gun, but most do not. Laws on carrying weapons vary enormously. Most states allow anyone who legally owns a gun to carry it openly, in public, without requiring a license or permit. A few states also have no permit requirement to carry a concealed gun. Concealed carry requires a permit in most states, but the majority of those states grant the permits automatically to any legal gun owners who want them. States also vary in their rules on gun possession in specific settings, like campuses and houses of worship. For example, in Rhode Island, any person with a concealed carry permit can bring a gun onto the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised P 1: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. It was written in 1970 for his album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox . During this time there was a profound shift in the struggle for equality as the fight for civil rights gave way to the demand for Black Power. Scott Heron tried to attract and encourage all people to continue being actively involved in the revolution and not to just watch it from a safe distance. He also warned people to be wary of the media and their portrayal of African American society. The song looks at the power of the media not just in observing society s politics but in shaping them. He reminds us that big corporations own everything we see on television and even when we do get involved in the revolution, there will be no news coverage on it. The song aims to denounce the elusive nature of political culture in Nixon s America, and the inability of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people (Smith). This line was a popular slogan during the Black Power movement in the 1970s, and it acts as a stand in or summary for the entire message of the song. By saying The Revolution Will Not Be Televised , Gil Scott Heron is saying you cannot just sit down and watch its progress from the comfort of your own home; you must be involved on the streets. He is urging his community to resist the pessimism of passivity and to fight actively for the change they want to see. There is also a sense of immediacy to the message. The revolution is happening now. It is a live event. Even if the mainstream media and those capitalist puppets who control it allowed such a movement to be documented, their efforts would be delayed. They would never be able to capture the hearts of the people fighting in real time in the real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A House Divided Against Itself Analysis From as far back as 1981, people have been pushing for English as the official language in America. As much as 87% of the American voting population supports the universal acceptance of English as the country s de facto language. But mankind is notorious for wanting things that aren t best for them; the question must be asked: should English truly become the backbone language for the U.S.? Republican lawmaker Steve King states, A nation divided by language cannot pull together as effectively as a people. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) King references Abraham Lincoln s speech ( A House Divided against Itself ) and the biblical (Mark 3:25, King James Bible) expression, A house divided against itself is a house that cannot stand, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steve King is not alone in his thinking the Tower of Babel s production was put to an abrupt conclusion when God intervened and striped the people of their unifying force: language. Through division of language, mankind was unable to finish the Tower of Babel or reach their fullest potential. (Genesis 11: 1 9, New James Bible). America s Founding Fathers seem to agree; David Simpsons writes, Language is seen as a potential element in constituting a political and cultural unity among the citizens of the new republic; or, if it goes wrong, a means of prescribing or perpetuating disorder. King further embellishes his thoughts: A common language is the most powerful unifying force known throughout history. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) The 100 Years War, for instance, is a crucial component to English s modern day significance. During this struggle, French became the Language of the Enemy. English evolved into a substitute, as an avenue for people to oppress their enemy and aggregate their resilience together. (Wallet; Rosanne E. • 6. Rivers And Streams Receiving Urban Runoff Essay Introduction Rivers and streams receiving urban runoff have been shown to be toxic to aquatic species (e.g. H. azteca), due to the presence of pyrethroids (Budd et al., 2007; Weston and Lydy, 2010; Weston et al, 2014). These pyrethroids are greatly toxic, with acute species mortality possible at even small concentrations of one part per trillion (Weston and Jackson, 2009), yet urban runoff regularly contains concentrations greater than 20 parts per trillion (Weston and Lydy, 2012). A significant part of the runoff from urban areas encompassing Sacramento, California flows to the American River. Thus, the toxic level of the rivers and tributaries of the American River and its sensitivity to aquatic species has been studied through modeling efforts (Jorgenson et al, 2013). Urban runoff, which contains a considerable amount of bifenthrin, a subset of pyrethroids, makes up a large portion of the river flow after a storm event. Due to increased use of bifenthrin in Sacramento County, bifenthrin concentration can be as high as 0.018 ppb, which is more than 5 times the 96 h middle effective concentration (EC50) for loss of motion to most aquatic species (Weston et al., 2009; Holmes et al., 2008; Hintzen et al., 2009; Weston and Lydy, 2010). The aggregated sum of pyrethroids active ingredient (A.I.) used by licensed professional pesticide applicators in Sacramento County, California, was estimated as 4,025,246 lbs. in 2014, and among this, structural pest control and landscape ... • 7. Balanced Scorecard Case Study The Impact of using Balanced Scorecard on Strategic Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This research paper describes an overview of the theoretical background of the Balanced Scorecard as well as describing the historical foundation and the development of its theories. A company s success will have a correlation with its strategy. However, if an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the company, they may experience a low rate of success and may fail eventually. The strategy of a company is often aligned to the mission, vision and core values of an organization along with a well thought out plan that will give a company an advantage compared to its competitors. Kaplan and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P. 1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy. The outcome measures of the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance and the performance drivers that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. • 8. Soviet Revolution And The Soviet War When the USSR collapsed the Cold War was ended, along with the spread of communism. In the year 1991, the USSR lost control of several Baltic States. Harsh living conditions and oppressive policies stirred rebellion in the people. Russian President Gorbachev tried in vain to restore power by first withholding, vital supplies like oil and raw materials from the Baltic States, or even used force...where hundreds of people were killed (Paxton 651). When deprivation and violence failed, Gorbachev persuaded member republics of the USSR to sign a new union treaty establishing a looser federation of sovereign states (Paxton 651). Although, he had meant to strengthen communism, Gorbachev s bloody tactics lost support of progressives, as well as, conservatives. The final signature of the union treaty was blocked by a coup led by Boris Yeltsin, later he would become president of the Russian Federation. Secession movements brought civil war to Russia. On September sixth 1991, the Baltic States declared full independence with heartland regions similarly minded. Now considered obsolete, the USSR was replaced with a new Commonwealth of Independent States. Gorbachev resigned and Yeltsin assumed control. The Soviet Union no longer existed. Glory or winning a great battle was an important feat to accomplish in the Middle Ages, as knights and explorers sought God, gold, and glory. Glory also implies honor, which Beowulf displayed when he chose to fight Grendel in hand to hand combat, The captain of evil [Grendel] discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of the earth (749 752). Matheny s Views on Ulitarianism and Factory or Farm Animals In this paper I will explain in detail the premises of Matheny s view and his argument of refraining from eating the product from factory farms, and then offer an objection to it. Matheny states in Utilitarianism and Animals that we should refrain from eating the products from factory farms. The first premise of Matheny s argument is the principle of equal consideration of interests. To be fair, just, and benevolent, any ethical rule we adopt should respect this principle. The second premise of Matheny s argument is that eating factory farmed products is considered to be ethically wrong. The conclusion of Matheny s argument is we should not eat factory farmed products. To summarize Matheny s Utilitarianism and Animals with a quote, We can change the way we live, and eat. Below are the following premises: 1. You should act in such a way as to maximize the expected satisfaction of interests in the world, equally considered. 2. Eating factory farmed products does not maximize the expected satisfaction of interest in the world, equally considered. 3. Therefore, we should not eat factory farmed products. Utilitarianism is an ethical theory with the rule, act in such a way as to maximize the expected satisfaction of interests in the world, equally considered. Recent studies suggest that almost all patients with moderate or severe TBI have a period of recovery during which they are responsive but confused. This state is commonly referred to as the post traumatic amnesia. Post traumatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, they also assess the magnitude of the brain injury through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; Wilson et al., 1993). The data in this study support earlier research connoting that patients have short coma but report prolonged PTA. They found that patients showed substantially more extensive hemispheric damage when patients with perpetuated PTA ( 7 days) and short coma ( 6 hours) when compared in the acute stage of MRI. Researchers conclude that although both coma and PTA are related to brain damage they still reflect disparate patterns of lesions. Thus, PTA assessment remains as a valuable measure by providing additional information concerning the severity of injury (Wilson et al., 1993). The duration of PTA is retrospectively measured by most studies at interview by catechizing the patient about their memories around the time of injury (Greenwood, 1997). Critics pose significant concerns regarding the retrospective method due to the lack of standardized protocol, undocumented prospective measurement of episodic memory, and questionable reliability issues (McMillan, Jongen, Greenwood, 1996; Tate et al., 2000). One of the issues is that clinicians often rely on the patient s own judgment and the relatives memory for events. Many find this problematic due to the potential contingency of confabulations right after traumatic injury (McMillan et al., 2012). In addition, concerns were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Equivalent Model Essay With respect to mechanical equivalent models, various mechanical equivalent models have been proposed for sandwich structures[11 14]; however, a certain equivalent model is usually and directly utilized as a research tool by previous investigations, rather than selecting an optimum equivalent model most suitable for aluminum honeycomb panels. The improper use of equivalent model in previous studies inevitably led to larger deviations. Unfortunately, this topic is also one that is replete with misconceptions. This essay will explore the world of the Jinn through the Qur aan and authentic Sunnah. Creation and Existence of Jinn The Jinn possess some characteristics of human beings, such as the ability to think and reflect and the ability to choose between good and evil, but they are different in their origin and creation. We are informed by Allah that the Jinn are created from fire: And the jinn, We have created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. Nonetheless, new product introductions were rampant in the industry, with slight changes in surface coatings and dimple patterns, for example, being touted for their ability to add a handful of yards to a golfer s shots, to give more accuracy, or to create greater control through faster spin on the ball. In addition, ball manufacturers spent millions of dollars on advertising campaigns for their balls. There were three basic types of balls, all conforming to the same general specifications. The oldest technology still in use was the three piece ball, which consisted of a core, windings, and a cover; this ball was good for spin and overall control. The Pros And Cons Of Andrew Jackson President Andrew Jackson served as President of the United States from 1826 to 1837 and is looked at my many as one of the best presidents in American history. Jackson was a man without many limits and did what he wanted because he simply wanted to do it, not because it was necessarily the popular opinion or Constitutional. This caused a lot of problems, but also was very beneficial in making solutions to problems in the country. Although, as a result of this, many people saw him as a dictator like tyrant and didn t agree with his pandering towards the uneducated, more working class civilians during his campaign. President Jackson s presidency was controversial as a result in debate over his political tactics as well as possibly overstepping his Constitutional boundaries when it came to the amount of power he exuded on the people; therefore, many people spoke out against his uneducated followers as well as his aggressive style while some evidence shows that these efforts were supported. Firstly, Jackson was the first president to ever pander to those who weren t educated, rich, and well cultured. Water is more commonly used due to its higher heat transfer coefficient, resulting in a smaller required surface area for cooling. The downside to water based cooling systems is that once the water has heated it must be cooled before it can be used again, this is a problem when trying to minimalise heat pollution. Due to the need for cooling of the water used, systems such as cooling water towers were developed. This is the most common method of cooling for recirculated water in chemical process industries. While water is fed down the tower, a cooling air flow is fed up through a system of slats that will increase the surface area of the water being cooled. As water falls down through the tower some of it will evaporate, this acts to further cool the stream as more heat is expelled in the form of latent heat. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how we should be educated. Some are convinced that we need to stick with what is currently in place. From this perspective, it is completely unnecessary to do something different if the method being used works. However, others maintain that we need to change. According to this view, people need to move away from what we are comfortable and familiar with in order to be better students. In sum, then, the issue is whether we should keep how our education works the same or not. My own view is that we need to change the system of education. Though I concede that sometimes it makes sense to keep what is not broken, I still maintain that for a better learning experience, we must change. Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s helplessness in the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an uninspiring idea of humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). When Jack was seven years old, he was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock at passing car in anger (King 160). • 35. The Yolk Sac And Its Effects On The Human Bodies 375 million years ago, a fish like creature crawled onto the land. This transition into an existence on dry terrain gave rise to amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and finally to humans. As early reptiles colonized in adverse new environments, they adapted features to help them survive during their struggles for food and territory. Our reptilian ancestors were changing their bodies and these new features are evident in our human bodies today. One of these features that link us to our reptilian ancestors is the yolk sac which is evident in the human embryo as well as the eggs of reptiles. As reptiles adapted to life on a dry earth, they needed to keep their eggs from drying out an so evolved a new type of egg which enclosed the embryos in an amnion filled sac and covered it with a hard shell. Reptiles and humans both carry the yolk gene but it is no longer functional in humans as we evolved and no longer needed yolk to feed our embryos. But those broken yolk genes are still in our genome and link us to these ancient egg laying animals. Skin is another important feature that connects us to reptiles. In order to withstand the dry air on land, reptiles developed layers of dead skin to insulate them and create a water tight barrier. Humans have inherited these same layers of dead skin to prevent our bodies from drying out. Our skin not only protects our bodies but it is responsible for other features which we share with our reptilian ancestors; important structures that originate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Celebrity Culture Forms Real World Distractions Adin Rackham Nyquist Pre Ap English 2 10 Nov. 2016 Celebrity Culture Forms Real World Distractions Celebrity and media culture are probably the most overbearing pop culture conditions that we as young people have to deal with, because it forces us to judge ourselves. Lady Gaga perfectly describes the corrupt system of celebrity culture. Fame and celebrity culture is nothing new to human nature. As humans progressed from hunting and gathering, people who have been skilled in war, sports, and art have captured people s undivided attention. As a result, celebrity gossip is an unhealthy distraction that undermines public discourse and sidetracks people from far more important issues. Celebrities are exploited as products to society, set an unrealistic standard of beauty, and the military having to face improper discrimination and a lack of support compared to professional athletes. Celebrity culture has banished the real from the public. Thirty years ago, the only celebrities were ones in movies. Breakfast at Tiffany s skyrocketed Audrey Hepburn s talented acting career. As a result, Audrey remains one of Hollywood s greatest movie stars and the world s most successful actresses. Now celebrities are everywhere Talk show hosts, lawyers, musicians and teenagers. Looking at how the young street dancers, Turbo and Ozone as well as Kelly, initially a Jazz dancer to a street dancer, chasing after their dreams, with perseverance and determination. Besides giving me an idea on what hip hop was about, it also shows the true feelings of the break dancers when they are being challenged. They used dance to express their anger towards each other and battle among themselves. They showcase different moves of break dance in the battle, to fight back against their opponents. This movie also gives me an idea on hip hop in the 80s. I can clearly see the differences in Hip hop culture when it was being introduced in the 80s and hip hop that is on going right now in the 20s. One of the differences was the fashion. In the 80s, tight fitting top, baggy trousers and belt were seen on the street dancers. Also, as the moves of hip hop continues to evolve the competitive nature of hip hop still remains as well as the circular nature of audience surrounding the dancers while they are battling against their rivals. The audiences kept their cheering as loud as possible so as to cheer the team that they are supporting. Today, that could easily translate to sound like the same in regards to the use of Social Media. I feel these sites truly share a common goal of uniting, connecting, and bringing people closer together but, there is a dark side to be noted. Social Media, if used in moderation, can be a useful tool indeed but, like anything else when used excessively, it can be dangerous to our mental health and well being. Elevation drawings and plans lay out the details of construction, they are useful to ensure the structure adheres to any local codes, however more detailed drawings are required for construction known as final renderings.1 Drawings are therefore a fundamental form of documentation that informs a building s production. Archigram placed as much influence on the context of the building and depicting its urban surrounding as much as emphasising the building itself. • 50. Thomas Nagel s Theory Of Death Essay In this paper, I will first elaborate on my understanding of Thomas Nagel s theory as to why death, a permanent nonexistent state, is an undesirable state of being. I will then argue as to why I believe that death is a misfortune using the argument that death terminates the positive experience of life as well as rebut the counter argument for why death is good because it gives meaning to life. Nagel champions the belief that death, a state of permanent posthumous nonexistence defined as unsupplemented by any form of conscious survival (769), is an occurrence that harms us. Nagel s first argument for why death is bad is that it deprives us of life, of which contains various goods that make life valuable. Nagel supports his argument by saying that if he [the man] had not died, he would have continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living (772). He continues to list goods such as perception, desire, activity and thought (769) as he believes that these are the essential elements to a person meaningful life. Though Nagel concedes that the goods he listed entail both joy and misery, as they are also fundamental factors of life, he also believes that a life which has more misery than it does joy is still desirable and should not make death seem like a better option as it ends the misery. His reasoning for this belief is that while a life may have more negative experiences than positive experiences, it is still emphatically positive, (770) as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Censorship In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury After reading Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury in high school, I felt I had a good understanding on how books and reading have an impact on society. Books allow us to broaden our imagination, our vocabulary and our intellect. Literature can become a source of debate, ideas, conversations and enjoyment. Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 depicts how government can censor even the simplest form of freedom, the enjoyment of reading. Montag, the antagonist, is a fireman trained to save lives and put out fires, ironically, burns books so people are unable to enjoy the imaginative world books create. They solely relied on technology for entertainment and opinion, which caused people to be separated from each other. Bradbury uses the symbolism of censorship to convey how technology can control society and may lead to an extinction of the human spirit.
