Virtual reality involves simulated alternate realities that users can interact with via computer-generated environments. It can be immersive, using headsets to surround the user's vision, or non-immersive by using large displays without fully surrounding the user. The history of virtual reality began in the 1950s with Morton Heilig's Sensorama simulator. Virtual reality hardware includes input devices like wands and gloves that allow interaction, as well as output devices like headsets and sensing gloves. Applications include uses in the military, healthcare, education, and scientific visualization.
