Differences in Cultural
Cultural Differences between Japan and U.S. There are many cultural differences between the U.S.
and Japan. Each country has their culture and lifestyle. While we may feel that Japanese cultural and
lifestyle seems strange, they likewise look at Americans as being different. It is important to realize
that Japanese and American culture is swayed by the society of people. Americans belong to a number
of subcultures due to immigration, while Japanese society has less immigration and is not as diverse
when it comes to subcultures. Since there are so many cultural differences between Japan and the
U.S., we cannot discuss its entirety but review a few differences as it relates to the family, greeting,
business, and government. First, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American schools have more access to new technology then Japanese school and students are able to
advance more rapidly in technology. Another noticeable culture difference between America and
Japan is business practices. In Japan, business relationships begin with an exchange of business cards.
To be acceptable to Japanese, the card should have English on one side and Japanese on the other. The
card is accepted with both hands and with a bow. It is read with interest otherwise the Japanese
consider you as being rude and it may damage the business relationship. Business practices are
different than American business practices because Japanese emphasize teamwork and Americans are
more concerned with individual enterprise. Punctuality and reliability is valued greatly in Japan.
Although it is changing, seniority has traditionally been more important to Japanese business than
achievement or skills. Japanese believe strongly in loyalty to the company. The company s needs
come first and individual needs are secondary. Whereas Americans feel they have rights and these
rights and come before loyalty to the company. If their rights are not met, they go to higher powers or
file complaints. One important value the Japanese has is the process of greeting individuals. They
believe greetings heightened sense of formality and professionalism, which underlies respect. Bowing

Mitochondrial Pathway Of Mitochondrial And Mitochondrial...
1.2.2. Mitochondrial pathway
The mitochondrial pathway, also called intrinsic pathway, because it is initiated from inside the cell.
Various stimuli such as growth factors withdrawal, DNA damage, hypoxia, and oxidative stress can
induce apoptosis through this cascade. These insults cause increasing permeability of the outer
mitochondrial membrane and opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) pore which
is controlled by members of the Bcl 2 family proteins. This large family of proteins is defined by the
presence of conserved Bcl 2 homology domains (BH1 to BH4). Up to 30 Bcl 2 family genes have
been identified in mammals, which have either pro apoptotic or anti apoptotic functions. Some of the
anti apoptotic members include Bcl 2 itself, Bcl XL, Bcl w, BAG and Mcl 1 which possess all
domains of BH1 to BH4. The pro apoptotic family proteins can be divided into two subgroups:
consists of Bak, Bax, and Bok with possess BH1 to BH3 domains, and Bad, Bid, Bik, BNIP3, Bim,
Bmf, Blk, Hrk, Noxa, Puma, and Spike) that only possesses BH3 domain [Cory, 2002; Mund, 2003].
It is believe that BH3 only proteins interfere with the fine tuned balance of homo or hetero
oligomerization between pro apoptotic multidomains (eg., Bax/Bak) and anti apoptotic members (eg.,
Bcl 2/Bcl XL) (Figure 3). In general, oligomers of Bak, Bax, and Bok induce PMT, either by forming
channels by themselves or by interacting with components of the PMT [Antonsson, 2000]. Bad can

at multinational corporations. Next, the paper will analyze the strengthens and weakness on
multinational corporations and its affect on workers. Lastly, the paper will give a personal evaluation
on whether the author (s) are convincing or if they are missing certain information. Multinational
corporations occupy a prominent role in the global economy. In the beginning, they emerged as
significant and enduring components in the international economy in the nineteenth century. Great
Britain was considered one of the largest capital exporting country during that century. By the year
2008, the number of these corporations was eleven times the number in operation in the early 1980s.
Ultimately, the number of MNCs continue to grow within the world s economy. The decision that

When Jesus Came The Corn Mother Went Away Analysis
It is no surprise that the discoverers of the New World are portrayed, through media outlets and taught
during early education, to be frontiers who found America spoiled with treasures and met the
indigenous people with curiosity and tolerance; for if history was broadcasted as it actually occurred,
the horrors would be enough to send chills down the spines of even those with the thickest skin.
Ramon Gutierrez, in his book When Jesus Came, the Corn Mother Went Away, maintains that the
Spaniards came to America with one purpose in mind: to seize, dominate, and conquer by any means
necessary; and the tactics, were that of subjugating, raping, and enslaving Native American women
and men. In order for these atrocities to occur for as long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, honor and shame go hand in hand: men were honorable if they esteemed honesty and
loyalty and were concerned for their reputation...[and] women embodied the sentiment of shame and
were considered honorable if they cherished the same values ( Honor and Virtue , 209). For a woman
to possess shame the female version of honor she had to be sexually pure and [display] the utmost
discretion around men (209), therefore, if a woman had been raped and her sexual innocence
diminished, it was to the benefit of women...to keep the knowledge of any frailty...as secret as
possible. (222). But such secrecy was rather difficult to maintain due to the fact that Spanish men
made every effort to publicize their intimacies with women as a way to elevate their honor, and,
because village gossip was always a powerful force in the regulation of social behavior (223). Fathers,
brothers, and husbands were well aware, that it was necessary to seclude women to protect their virtue
(213) from the clutches of the sexual predators whom society defended; but contrary to these efforts of
protection, men primarily had self interest in

The Importance Of Language Creation And Language Change
Language creation and language change have long been topics that genuinely interest linguists. They
apply their knowledge to different disciplines all across the spectrum of linguistics, from sign
language to vowel changes. Sign languages, which convey meaning through complex hand gestures
and facial expressions, are relatively young languages that emerged among deaf communities across
the globe. On the other hand, vowel shifts are changes in language pronunciation that have been
taking place throughout human history. Despite all the research that has been done, linguists are still
uncertain about factors that contribute to language creation. Nevertheless, it is reasonable to infer that
language creation is fostered by communities where communication is hindered, and that the size of
the community is a determining factor. Language change, on the other hand, is mainly driven by the
ways in which people interact on a daily basis.
The desperate need for communication in small communities is the first step toward creating new
languages. One of the best pieces of evidence we have for how language emerges is homesign, which
is also an example of how language creation is influenced by size. Homesign system, a self created
system of communication used by deaf individuals who have not been exposed to a sign language
(Brentari Goldin Meadow, 2016, p.364), is created uniformly among deaf individuals who are not
exposed to any spoken or sign language as a means of communicating

How To File A Small Claim Courts
In order to file a small claims lawsuit, you must first understand a few things about small claim courts.
We are going to be using the San Mateo County small claims court for the entire essay. First of all, for
San Mateo County small claims, you may not sue for over ten thousand dollars if you are a natural
person, or five thousand dollars if you are a business entity. You could sue in the civil division of the
superior court if you would like to sue for more money than ten thousand dollars. If you have a claim
over ten thousand dollars, you may still sue in a small claims court, but would lose any value above
your specific limit. Specifically, with the San Mateo Small Claims Court, you may not file 3 or more
cases in small claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You must be at least 18 in order to file a small claims lawsuit, but an adult or legal guardian may file a
small claim on their behalf.
In order to file a small claims lawsuit, you must do a variety of other requirements prior to filing the
claim. Before even going through the process of filing a small court claim, you must notify the
defendant clearly stating why you think they owe you money, and how much money they actually owe
you. This is to show you at least put an effort out to resolve the issue instead of going straight to the
small claims court. It should include a summary of the situation, a date for them to respond by, proof
of what they did wrong, and to warn them that you will take legal action if the matter is not solved.
You may do this verbally, or you may write a letter to the defendant. If you chose to write a letter, you
must make sure you keep record of the letter, and also print an extra copy for the court. If they do not
pay back the money they owe to you or find a solution, then you should proceed with taking legal
action.
Although it may sound extremely simple, it is very important that you receive the name, address, and
phone number of the person or business you are suing so you can correctly add them into the claim. If
you have trouble finding more details on the defendant, than you can use a California Secretary of
State website to access the information if you are searching for a corporation,

The History of Greek Architecture Essays
The History of Greek Architecture
The architecture of ancient Greece is represented by buildings in the sanctuaries and cities of mainland
Greece, the Aegean islands, southern
Italy and Sicily, and the Ionian coast of Turkey. Monumental Greek architecture began in the archaic
period, flourished through the classical and Hellenistic periods, and saw the first of many revivals
during the
Roman Empire. The roots of Greek architecture lie in the tradition of local
Bronze Age house and palaces. The following paper will cover the basic forms of Greek architecture.

This era brought about the introduction of both the Doric and Ionic Orders.
The Doric Order, which originated around 400 BCE brought rise to a whole new type of building
technique and style. In the archaic temples, stone gradually started to replace wood, and some of the
structural details of the early buildings appear to have been copied in stone. At Thermon, in
northwestern Greece, a succession of buildings from the Last Bronze Age throughout the sixth century
BCE show the evolution of the Doric temple from a hall shaped like a hairpin to a long rectangular
building with a porch at either end and surrounded by columns. The temple of Hera at
Olympia, built about 600 BCE, had wooden columns that were gradually replaced by stone ones,
probably as votive gifts. The variety of column and capital shapes illustrates the evolution of the Doric
order. The earliest columns had a heavy, bulging profile, and their capitals were broad and low.
During the archaic period, limestone became the standard building material for foundations, steps,
walls, columns, and Doric entablature. Building such as the famous Temple of Aphaia on Aegina
illustrate the dramatic influence of the Doric order.
White the Doric order became the standard for mainland Greece, the
Ionian colonies in the eastern Aegean were developing a very different system of columns and
entablature based on Egyptian and Near Eastern architecture. The tall slender columns, low
entablature, and

Security Risks And Vulnerabilities Of Mobile Payment...
Abstract
Mobile payment apps such as Vemo and PayPal are quickly becoming one of the most popular ways
for peer to peer money transfer and other apps allow users to have contactless payment at checkout.
These apps contain very personal and accessible information, yet there is little to no concern for the
security of this valuable information. This paper will access the current security risks and
vulnerabilities of mobile payment applications and what users should be doing to protect themselves.
This is important to the cyber security body of knowledge because thieves will use the vulnerabilities
of the apps to steal personal information. It then falls into the hands of cyber security specialist to
protect and educate users to decrease crime.
Introduction
Payment processes have evolved from the traditional cash or cards to innovative electronic wallets on
smartphones. Consumers are accepting this new form of convenient payment and imputing all of their
personal data including their full name and credit card information onto apps such as Apple Pay,
Samsung Pay, Pay Pal, etc. These apps are available on both the Apple Store and Google Play and
have their own way of using various forms of mobile payment. According to forecasted reports,
mobile payment volume will bring in $503 million by 2020 compared to the current $75 billion this
year (Bakker, 2016). As always, with new technologies come new challenges and risks. Mobile

Trafficking And Organized Crime During Latin America
In the last decades, narco trafficking and organized crime had emerged as the main security threats in
Latin America. Deviant globalization increase their power by establishing connections with similar
organizations in other parts of the world, like cocaine distribution networks, for example. This
perceived danger increases the pressure on the governments for effective solutions, and some of them
consider that these problems had overwhelmed the capabilities of the local police. Consequently, the
intervention of military forces would be necessary to secure the stability of the countries. However,
the use of force as the only solution is the outcome of a misunderstanding of the root causes that
generates them. This paper presents the research for a general pattern in the region that is helpful to
understand how the civil society perceives the failures of governance and how the networks of illegal
activities exploit this perception.
What is the relation between weak national governance and security threats in Latin America?
This research establish weak governance as an enabler for the emergence of security threats in Latin
America related to transnational organized crime. Lack of effective action of the administration to
provide basic services and proper conditions for the population resulted in alternate ways to get them,
with the consequent undermining of the institutions and norms.

Anger Is A Universal Emotion
Anger is a universal emotion. It might make you act out and throw something, or it might boil up
inside you until you blow up on some innocent person simply asking a question. How every person
reacts to anger is different, some people may deal with anger more efficiently than others: like
counseling, therapy or by taking medication that mainly focuses on depression or anxiety which fuels
anger. People often wonder if they have anger problems and if it s genetic. Not many know what part
of the brain anger comes from, or what triggers it. Red often symbolizes anger, because blood is red
and so is fire, both associated with anger. Anger is hard to control, and it may not be your fault for
controlling it due to genetics of anger. Thanks to science, studies have given us bits and pieces to the
puzzle we have before us concerning anger.
Being Raised in an Angry Environment
The part of the brain that controls emotions including anger, occur in the amygdala. Science has
shown that adolescences use their amygdala s for decision making more than adults, who use their
frontal lobes. The reason people have anger can be from stress, abuse, finances, social or family
issues. Factors like substance abuse and being raised by or with people with anger issues can affect
ones way of dealing with and levels of anger.

Analysis Of Chasing Heroine
Should this disease have gotten this far in society? The more you engage in any type of emotion or
behavior, the greater your desire for it will become. Chris Prentiss. In the documentary Chasing
Heroine that was filmed on PBS Frontline, was extremely shocking to watch. This film was filmed in
2016. It followed current and former addicts, their love ones, and advocates. This documentary
actually told the truth of certain things in regard to heroine. The light was shed on how the heroine
was brought into history, social problems, and shame, and the system. In the documentary, heroine is
nothing new, but a disease that has been brewing for a little over 30 years. Before heroine became
known for a high, it was a drug called OxyContin, that was given to everyone to take away their
problems. These pain problems consist of cancer patients and severe chronic pain. However, Purdue
Pharma seen an opportunity to provide a new prescription called Oxy to an old drug name, but gave it
an extra release long acting of pain relief. Then started advertising it on commercials for the public to
view every day. Less than 1% of patient become addicted. In 2001, Pharma sold over 1 billion dollars
with OxyContin over a year. Heroine started to go epic after OxyContin was tapered back from the
pharmacy. Heroine was also majority of the middle class to the wealthy white men and woman
population that lived in the suburban area. The pharmacy knew what they were doing, and had to pay
about 600 million in fines for their neglect to the people. This epidemic was taken to the White House,
but President Obama did not take it serious. Obama could care less about this epidemic, that he waited
1 year later to act. However, at this time the healthcare professionals could provide a bottle to every
adult in the nation. Heroine was just not hitting the adult population, but young adults tried it too. One
particular participant in the film was named Christina. She started heroine at a young age, and now
been using for years. She was high while filming the documentary. There was a phrase that stuck out
to me that she correlates with, this drug, it has a brain, and it shares mine. I can understand that this is

The Negative Factors Of People With Disability In The 20th...
The thing about living with any disability is that you adapt; you do what works for you . Stella Young
Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or
activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not
healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an
incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In
the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness
the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned
that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated
with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder
of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been
multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th
century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the
positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still
influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree
of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When
someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed.
The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012).
Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe
disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is
because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of
themselves, physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way
they use to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might

Fighting Racism through Diversity Training Programs Essay
Imagine being hated by people because of skin color. Racism still exists. Racial discrimination is
always wrong and demeans a person. Everyone suffers when racial discrimination flourishes. Racism
is one of the world s major issues. Many people are not aware of how much racism still exists in the
schools, workforce, and everyday life. Racism has affected America on a personal level as well as a
global level. While racism still exists in America, it can be prevented or potentially eliminated through
the effective implementation of diversity training programs in schools and corporate institutions.
Why do some people hate the color of African American skin? All people bleed, cry, die, and have
feelings. Society has standards and expects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this California woman proves that racism still exists. Have we reason to expect, or dare we ask
of him whose ways are all equal, the continuance of his blessings to us, whilst our ways are so
unequal. (Nash 131)
People can also help prevent racism in our communities and schools. Suggest that people develop a
policy statement against all forms of racial discrimination. Object to racist jokes and insults because
there not funny. Nothing less than a racial reorganization of American elementary education is
necessary, therefore, if the schools are to begin to discharge their obligation to teach Negro
youngsters. (Silberman 277)
Experiencing racism is difficult especially on those who never been in that type of work environment.
In the workplace corporations have created test to determine if a person is racist which is very helpful
in prevent racial discrimination.
All in all, racism is something that should have not happen and it s sad that it did and still does.
Though it has gone through many stages, America progressed in trying to get better and show
everyone that they are equal. People can also find ways to remove racism completely. If the old
generations stop passing on racism to the new generations it would be a step to ending racism.

The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism
Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term Utilitarianism.
Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a restricted manner that is
divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often attach everything with the element of
pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the theory. However, the proponents of the theory of
utilitarianism such as Epicurus and Bentham asserted that it was pleasure in itself and the exclusion of
pain. Therefore, the morality principle of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest happiness
principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive results that are
associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when they are linked to the negative
outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness refers to the absence of pain when there is
pleasure, while unhappiness is characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on the theory of
utilitarianism, morality is founded on human activities that are aimed to promote happiness and
pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be pleasure.
Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human beings possess. He
illustrates the view by stating that, I have dwelt on this point as being a necessary part of perfectly just
conception of utility or happiness considered the directive rule of human conduct (p:11). For

American Sign Language II
Seeing Voices
By Oliver Sacks
Seeing Voices is a profound novel that was written by famous neurologist, Oliver Sacks in 1989.
Seeing Voices is a book that delves into the history of Sign Language and expresses a genuine
meaning behind what language truly is. Oliver Sacks is an engaging and fascinating writer. Being able
to explore outside what he is used to, he can expand his knowledge about language. Being
knowledgeable on psychiatry can help him get a better understanding of cognitive ability in the deaf
community and the importance of why keeping Sign Language away from Deaf children is not
beneficial for them in the hearing world. Like many of his books, ... Show more content on

The language of the Deaf is usually consistent with the environment the language is being spoken in.
For example, the signs that one can encounter in British Sign Language can be different than signs
that are seen in American Sign Language. Although Sign Language itself is very universal, the specific
patterns and methods of speaking that are associated with each kind of Deaf Community can be
drastically different.
Sacks himself was not deaf, but it was an exciting experience for him to dive into a community he was
not familiar with. The second part of the book, Sacks goes into detail about the importance of Sign
Language itself and discusses the situation in which he meets a young Deaf boy named Joseph. When
reading this book, I completely understood and agreed with Sacks when he stated that deaf children
must learn a language at a young age to be successful. With that being said, Oliver Saks researched
American Sign Language, and as a result, he ultimately decided that the Critical Period Hypothesis is
extremely important when discussing the Deaf community. This theory states that there is a critical
age at which people should learn a language, or they will forever be unable to express themselves with
little to no education in language. Sacks show that by keeping Sign Language away from Deaf
children is ultimately hurting them rather than helping. Forcing deaf children at a young age to speak
and not use Sign Language as their first language is

Buckner Harold Analysis
Dear Editor of the Buckner Harold, Buckner s issue that is plaguing its teenagers is that there is
nothing for them to do, when teenagers get bored they can get very destructive the best way to counter
this is to have something for teenagers to do that they like. Buckner is a small town with not a lot to do
for anyone, but the teenagers really get the short end of the stick. Presently there are playgrounds for
younger and smaller kids to play on, and there is a bar and restaurants for adults, but nothing for

United States says that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol or any sort. That 11 percent may
not seem so huge when you consider all of the alcohol being consumed by the United States each year,
but remember that 11 percent are all teens and kids under the legal drinking age. However drinking is
not the only path teenagers can choose out of boredom. Teenagers are also turning to drugs of all sorts
no matter what kind of drug it is. As a matter of fact it is estimated that 3,300 try marijuana for the
first time every day in the United States alone. A study has done that found that 12th graders who
smoke marijuana are 65 percent more likely to get in a car accident. In addition 51.7 teenagers 10th
grade through 12th grade have smoked pot sometime between the last month to the last year.
Furthermore though marijuana is not the only drug that teenagers are using there is also cocaine and
heroin. As a matter of fact 2.5 percent of teens have been caught up in cocaine use of some sort. On

Saint Augustine s Role Of Women In The Fall Of Man
Early Christian theologian and philosopher Augustine of Hippo once declared that we ought to wish
ours (teachings) to conform to that of sacred scripture. In this essay, we will be analyzing theological
perspectives of Saint Augustine and will discuss his ideas about the role of women in the Fall of Man,
his views on intentionality and the nature of evil, and the ways in which his teachings influenced C.S.
Lewis and his literally works in The Chronicles of Narnia. To begin, Saint Augustine had a utilitarian
view of women, and his writings would influence the early Catholic and Protestant churches for
centuries to come. In addressing the Fall of Man, Augustine believes that Adam and Eve had different
motives for eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden and is forced to explain these different
roles because of 1st Timothy 2:14, which states, Adam was not deceived, but the woman being
deceived was in the transgression. Augustine theorized that Eve ate the fruit because she saw it as
pleasing to the eye, and when she was approached by the snake had neither the wisdom nor the
prowess to avoid falling into temptation. She was, after all, only a companion to Adam and in the end,
Adam chose her companionship over the will of the Lord. There is also an early Christian theology
that supports the idea that beautiful women are temptresses, and modest beauty is much more pleasing
to God. We see this idea in many of C.S. Lewis works, but we will draw on an example from The

Famine Affluence And Morality Analysis
Peter Singer is an Australian moral philosopher most known for his book titled Famine, Affluence, and
Morality in which he talks about just that. One of his biggest and the first of his premises is our
obligation to assist if it is within our means to avoid something bad without giving up something of
moral consequence. This means that it is not morally permissible to rob a bank to assist those in need
just because you have the means to rob a bank. It simply means when thinking about purchasing
another item of clothing you should ask yourself if it is necessary. If the answer is no which it will
most likely be that money is to go towards someone who s life who depends on it. This, then, is within

There s no way to know or change this without putting money in the pot in the first place. But why
would you do that? You could potentially waste a great deal of money. It might be better to wait and
save the money you would have donate. This is essentially the argument of something called Ever
Better Wine which says you should never open the wine because it will taste better tomorrow and will
only continue to increase in flavor with each day that passes. You could then call what s next Ever
Better Saving which is that you should wait and do more good tomorrow. The principle ultimately
states that you should wait forever to save people which doesn t help anyone at all. In terms of saving
the money, how are you to know for sure that it can save more people tomorrow than it will today?
This brings up the issue of whether the ever better wine reasoning is similar to what is going on in the
real world and our ability to help people in absolute poverty. Ever better wine is completely
theoretical. It s not fair to compare the taste of wine to the unfortunate lives of

Anger Rumination Psychology
Anger experience is a basic emotion which predisposes sense of threat and negative appraisal (Oatley,
1992). These experiences and cognitive appraisals activate or increases anger rumination (Rusting
Nolen Hoeksema, 1998). Repetitively unavoidable thinking about anger provoking experiences has
been considered as the main characteristic of anger rumination (Sukhodolosky et al., 2001; Watkins,
2004) affects mental health indicators. Thus, it can be said that anger decreases psychological well
being and on the other hand increases psychological distress through activating and increasing anger
rumination.

Edward Abbey And Wasteland And An Elegy
Kindred and Coexisting
As humans began to develop, the need to expand increased. Some of this increase causes nature to be
destroyed on the very foundation in which the new buildings and complexes are built. In the two
pieces of writing, The Serpents of Paradise by Edward Abbey and Wasteland: An Elegy by Mary
Oliver, the authors examine their own personal experiences with nature. In order to show that humans
should respect and are connected to nature, the authors narrate their story in first person, but choose
different approaches to aspects such as tone and the use of pathos.
In The Serpents of Paradise, Edward Abbey uses a subtle and relaxed tone until the end of the excerpt,

National Environmental Policy Act ( Nepa )
In the United States, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was enacted on January 1, 1970 and
Environmental Protection Agency began operation December 2, 1970. In many developed countries,
since 1960s growing awareness about the side effects of unrestricted development and
industrialisation had pressured policy makers to establish environmental policies and agencies. During
that period, the policies were designed to focus on prompt and remedial action plans rather than
prevention tools. As a result, Command and Control (CAC) approach became the dominant tool which
is comprised of setting environmental standards (command) and penalising non complied actions
(control).
The experience with CAC during 70s and 80s suggests that the regulatory policies in practice cost far
greater than expected. Since CAC has been introduced by many countries, economists focused on the
economic evaluation of the approach in terms of its efficiency and cost effectiveness. Some studies
suggest that the environmental standards mandated by governments are hard to be set at an efficient
level because of legislative constraints, imperfect information, regional differences and non uniformity
of pollutants. Another issue with CAC is associated with enforcement problems such as costs of
monitoring and administration.
For the reasons mentioned above, new approach has been recommended by many economists. The
new policy is called Economic Instrument (EI) which provides incentives to companies or

Political Allegory In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Animal Farm is another book where the road for a better life changes society yet, becomes either no
different or worse. In George Orwell s novel, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal
than others . Animal farm in a short summary is a small farm where the animals plot a rebellion
against the humans, which they believe are corrupt. Two pigs, Snowball and Napolean, find
themselves becoming the leaders of the animal rebellion. Throughout the story the animals create a
communist like government called animalism , which states all animals are equal and share equal
responsibilities in the farm however; the book features a series of change in government styles such
as: dictatorship, communism, totalitarianism, and circling back to a dictatorship. Animal farm also
features social commentary that leads to it being a dystopia as it discusses the working classes, human
corruption, propaganda, and abuse of power. George Orwell, also author of nineteen eighty four, first
published Animal Farm on August 19, 1945. Orwell uses simple and easy to understand style while
writes his novel as a political allegory,or story with a hidden meaning. He strategically wrote the farm
tale, Animal Farm, as a satire of the russian revolution. The book uses the personification of animals
to represent figures of Soviet Russia during the Cold War/World War II. The novel shows how easily
good intentions can turn into a tyranny, like how the road to a utopia can subvert into a dystopia.

The North And South During The Civil War
Throughout the 19th century, the distinctions between the North and South in the United States were
controversial. Prior to the Civil War, the North consisted of business owners and middle class men.
The South consisted of mostly farmers. The North was industrial, using railroads and factories. The
South was agricultural, with mostly farms and plantations. The North paid their labor workers. The
South used slaves. Not only did their opposing views on slavery and the separation of the two cultures,
tensions arose that eventually led to one of the most gruesome wars in history.
The North pushed for the abolition of slavery due to the immorality of it. Yet, some reports say
otherwise. In the article To Forget and Forgive: Reconstructing the Nation in The Post Civil War
Classrooms, Ginsburg states, Confederate authors explained Northern anti slavery sentiment in
economic terms once Northern businessmen found slavery unprofitable, they abolished it and turned
to slavery Fanaticism . These Southern authors believed that the North s anti slavery movement was a
ploy for economic prosperity. As a result, this tension led to the fallout of the Kansas Nebraska Act of
1854, when both northern slave territories were either free states or remained slave states by the
people. This was an opportunity for the government to leave the legislative branch of slavery with
poor sovereignty. The states decided on slavery in hopes that it would have ended slavery controversy
and avoid racism.

for giving him this physical form. Why match a heart that was meant for the study of Buddha with a
face that will lead to damnable deeds? (Yu 21). This sentiment of beauty as a cosmic gift from higher
beings is echoed in Vesperus narcissistic self reflection when deciding whether to take a life path of
asceticism, filial piety, or sexual debauchery: Since Heaven has given birth to someone like me, it
must also have given birth to a girl fit to be my mate....That is why at twenty I am still unmarried I

Theme Of Order In The Canterbury Tales
Marissa Diaz
Professor Hadorn
British Literature
26 October 2017
Order Presented Through Chaucer I think that people are most comfortable when the world is orderly.
I think there s the sense that when you begin questioning basic distinctions, such as the distinction
between being male and being female, it represents a threat to the social order. Andrew Solomon.
When it comes to order Geoffrey Chaucer has an interesting way of portraying the essence of order
throughout The Canterbury Tales. His characters seem to follow the social order at first glance, but as
we look further into the tales we see just how out of line these characters are. Even the character that
is Chaucer is blind to the twistedness of his fellow passengers. Chaucer only sees the good in his
travel companions, not the hidden upheaval of the social order that was so strictly in place. Through
discussion it was said how the social class was the foundation of everyday life during the Middle
Ages. The idea of Social class was a huge part in determining the role one would hold in the lives of
medieval people. When a person of the times would look at the aristocracy class and compare those
people to the less than desirable lower class, the two were habitually regarded by society as virtually
different races. In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer is able to show the wide variety among the
classes all intermingling on this voyage. Chaucer is able to catch the subtle differences in almost every

In 1964, Top of the Pops was born. Like previous music shows, it was a showcase of musical talent.
The show went down brilliantly in the UK, with mass numbers watching the show each week to catch

acts that led to the nickname, the swinging 60 s . 1966 saw the beginning of psychedelic music. It was

The Similarities Between Sal And Lex In Jurassic Park
All the characters are different, but they all have a few key similarities. Tom wanted to be independent
and noble, but Sal and Lex both wanted to understand, from Sal wanting to know about her mom the
Lex craving to know her situation and safety. This shows how there can be connections between books
that do not have the same plot, story, characters, or even timeline as others.
For example, Sal s mother passed away in a bus accident and this consequently compels her to want to
know more. This is important for the reader to know as it helps them understand what is happening as
the story develops. It also helps them understand the reason that Sal went on this road trip, to see her
mother s grave. Because of this, it helps the reader understand that Sal is not bringing her mother
home physically, but mentally will never forget this journey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Lex grew up in a suburban home with everything she ever wanted, but now that her parents are getting
a divorce she has a need to know. She wants to know why. This is also good for readers to know
because it helps them understand the mental changes she went through in Jurassic Park. She has come
accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, not having her life torn up and being in danger from savage
dinosaurs. This shows the change keeps the readers informed on why Michael Crichton is doing what
he is

Examples Of Patriotism Or Love For Motherland
Patriotism Or, Love for Motherland
Introduction: patriotism is one of the most sterling qualities of human life. Patriotism rouses in him a
feeling of pride and glory.
Home, home, sweet home; there is no place like home.
Utility of patriotism: the utility of patriotism is too much to be described. Islam says Patriotism is a
part of religion . Motherland actually stands next to one s mother. A country cannot achieve her
desired development without the patriotic zeal and sincere participation of her people. Patriotism
inspires a man to shed even the last drop of his blood to defend the freedom and honor of his country.
A people can neither defend their freedom nor resist foreign aggression or free their country from
foreign domination without being inspired by the patriotic feelings. They must remain ever watchful

To the end like the glittering stars studded in the sky.
Fate of an unpatriotic: most hatred is the fate of an unpatriotic. A man without patriotism cannot be
called a man in the truest sense of the term. He is worse than a beast. He is said to be a man with a
dead soul. Sir Walter Scott says,
Breathes there the man with soul so dead,
Who has never to himself hath said this is my own, my native land.
He is looked down upon by one and all in the society. He lives a miserable life and dies and ignoble
death. He dies unwept, un honored and unsung. Let me quote the poet,
Living shall forfeit fair renown,
And doubly dying shall go down.
The world history of the unpatriotic persons bears out the fact well. Sirajuddowla, the last independent
nabob of bangle, had to meet with a tragic defeat and death in the battle of Plessey due to the
conspiracy of the traitors like Mirjafar, Umichand and others. But history did not escape them. They
were outright thrown into the dustbins of history. We cannot but hate

Research Paper On Cannibalism
Cannibalism is the practice of eating the flesh of one s own species. It can also mean the usually
ritualistic eating f human flesh. It is often seen as an uncivilised act and is in most instances, attributed
to the primitive societies. But, there are cases where it has been seen that members of the modern,
civilised society have practised cannibalism. For many, it is an act that cannot be defended or justified
in any way. Some societies believe that cannibalism is a coping mechanism. It is believed to be a way
of guiding the soul of the deceased. Many scholars have also defended cannibalism. There might be
different ways of either defending or going against the practice of cannibalism.

Consumption of human flesh would cause undue distress to the family of cannibalized. This would be
considered wrong. But based on this argument it would be morally wrong to eat a corpse if there were
no living persons who had an interest in the preservation of that corpse. Here, the cannibalistic act of
Aghori Sadhus found in India can be justified because they do not kill or murder any person but
meditates and eats dead bodies that are found near the cremation grounds. It is their belief that if they
accept what has been rejected by others, they are on their path of salvation. The third argument is that
even if the corpse doesn t have a family, all human beings should have an interest in the prevention of
cannibalism because many belief that the society that permits the consumption of human flesh
produces more unhappiness and one would not want to live in such a society. But this argument is
countered by some defenders of cannibalism as being based on false empirical

Single Blind Experiment
If I were a psychologist trying to determine if this claim is valid, I would set up a single blind
experiment to see if the aroma of jasmine could help reduce depression. Aromatherapy is a type of
therapy that incorporates essential oils to help improve a person s mood (Krans). It is thought that the
chemicals from the oil will travel up the nasal cavities to the olfactory receptors, which then send a
signal to the olfactory bulbs, and then finally connecting to the limbic system where emotion,
motivation, and memory are regulated (Ciccareli). During the single blind experiment, the participants
would know I am trying to reduce depression, but would not know which scents I am testing. The first
step would be to step up a hypothesis. For

  • 3. Mitochondrial Pathway Of Mitochondrial And Mitochondrial... 1.2.2. Mitochondrial pathway The mitochondrial pathway, also called intrinsic pathway, because it is initiated from inside the cell. Various stimuli such as growth factors withdrawal, DNA damage, hypoxia, and oxidative stress can induce apoptosis through this cascade. These insults cause increasing permeability of the outer mitochondrial membrane and opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) pore which is controlled by members of the Bcl 2 family proteins. This large family of proteins is defined by the presence of conserved Bcl 2 homology domains (BH1 to BH4). Up to 30 Bcl 2 family genes have been identified in mammals, which have either pro apoptotic or anti apoptotic functions. Some of the anti apoptotic members include Bcl 2 itself, Bcl XL, Bcl w, BAG and Mcl 1 which possess all domains of BH1 to BH4. The pro apoptotic family proteins can be divided into two subgroups: consists of Bak, Bax, and Bok with possess BH1 to BH3 domains, and Bad, Bid, Bik, BNIP3, Bim, Bmf, Blk, Hrk, Noxa, Puma, and Spike) that only possesses BH3 domain [Cory, 2002; Mund, 2003]. It is believe that BH3 only proteins interfere with the fine tuned balance of homo or hetero oligomerization between pro apoptotic multidomains (eg., Bax/Bak) and anti apoptotic members (eg., Bcl 2/Bcl XL) (Figure 3). In general, oligomers of Bak, Bax, and Bok induce PMT, either by forming channels by themselves or by interacting with components of the PMT [Antonsson, 2000]. Bad can also heterodimerize ... • 7. The Importance Of Language Creation And Language Change Language creation and language change have long been topics that genuinely interest linguists. They apply their knowledge to different disciplines all across the spectrum of linguistics, from sign language to vowel changes. Sign languages, which convey meaning through complex hand gestures and facial expressions, are relatively young languages that emerged among deaf communities across the globe. On the other hand, vowel shifts are changes in language pronunciation that have been taking place throughout human history. Despite all the research that has been done, linguists are still uncertain about factors that contribute to language creation. Nevertheless, it is reasonable to infer that language creation is fostered by communities where communication is hindered, and that the size of the community is a determining factor. Language change, on the other hand, is mainly driven by the ways in which people interact on a daily basis. The desperate need for communication in small communities is the first step toward creating new languages. One of the best pieces of evidence we have for how language emerges is homesign, which is also an example of how language creation is influenced by size. Homesign system, a self created system of communication used by deaf individuals who have not been exposed to a sign language (Brentari Goldin Meadow, 2016, p.364), is created uniformly among deaf individuals who are not exposed to any spoken or sign language as a means of communicating ... In the archaic temples, stone gradually started to replace wood, and some of the structural details of the early buildings appear to have been copied in stone. At Thermon, in northwestern Greece, a succession of buildings from the Last Bronze Age throughout the sixth century BCE show the evolution of the Doric temple from a hall shaped like a hairpin to a long rectangular building with a porch at either end and surrounded by columns. The temple of Hera at Olympia, built about 600 BCE, had wooden columns that were gradually replaced by stone ones, probably as votive gifts. Stella Young Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed. The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012). Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of themselves, physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way they use to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term Utilitarianism. Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a restricted manner that is divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often attach everything with the element of pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the theory. However, the proponents of the theory of utilitarianism such as Epicurus and Bentham asserted that it was pleasure in itself and the exclusion of pain. Therefore, the morality principle of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest happiness principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive results that are associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when they are linked to the negative outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness refers to the absence of pain when there is pleasure, while unhappiness is characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on the theory of utilitarianism, morality is founded on human activities that are aimed to promote happiness and pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be pleasure. Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human beings possess. He illustrates the view by stating that, I have dwelt on this point as being a necessary part of perfectly just conception of utility or happiness considered the directive rule of human conduct (p:11). Being able to explore outside what he is used to, he can expand his knowledge about language. For example, the signs that one can encounter in British Sign Language can be different than signs that are seen in American Sign Language. Although Sign Language itself is very universal, the specific patterns and methods of speaking that are associated with each kind of Deaf Community can be drastically different. Sacks himself was not deaf, but it was an exciting experience for him to dive into a community he was not familiar with. The second part of the book, Sacks goes into detail about the importance of Sign Language itself and discusses the situation in which he meets a young Deaf boy named Joseph. When reading this book, I completely understood and agreed with Sacks when he stated that deaf children must learn a language at a young age to be successful. With that being said, Oliver Saks researched American Sign Language, and as a result, he ultimately decided that the Critical Period Hypothesis is extremely important when discussing the Deaf community. This theory states that there is a critical age at which people should learn a language, or they will forever be unable to express themselves with little to no education in language. Sacks show that by keeping Sign Language away from Deaf children is ultimately hurting them rather than helping. Saint Augustine s Role Of Women In The Fall Of Man Early Christian theologian and philosopher Augustine of Hippo once declared that we ought to wish ours (teachings) to conform to that of sacred scripture. In this essay, we will be analyzing theological perspectives of Saint Augustine and will discuss his ideas about the role of women in the Fall of Man, his views on intentionality and the nature of evil, and the ways in which his teachings influenced C.S. Lewis and his literally works in The Chronicles of Narnia. To begin, Saint Augustine had a utilitarian view of women, and his writings would influence the early Catholic and Protestant churches for centuries to come. In addressing the Fall of Man, Augustine believes that Adam and Eve had different motives for eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden and is forced to explain these different roles because of 1st Timothy 2:14, which states, Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Augustine theorized that Eve ate the fruit because she saw it as pleasing to the eye, and when she was approached by the snake had neither the wisdom nor the prowess to avoid falling into temptation. She was, after all, only a companion to Adam and in the end, Adam chose her companionship over the will of the Lord. There is also an early Christian theology that supports the idea that beautiful women are temptresses, and modest beauty is much more pleasing to God. We see this idea in many of C.S. • 31. National Environmental Policy Act ( Nepa ) In the United States, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was enacted on January 1, 1970 and Environmental Protection Agency began operation December 2, 1970. In many developed countries, since 1960s growing awareness about the side effects of unrestricted development and industrialisation had pressured policy makers to establish environmental policies and agencies. During that period, the policies were designed to focus on prompt and remedial action plans rather than prevention tools. As a result, Command and Control (CAC) approach became the dominant tool which is comprised of setting environmental standards (command) and penalising non complied actions (control). The experience with CAC during 70s and 80s suggests that the regulatory policies in practice cost far greater than expected. Since CAC has been introduced by many countries, economists focused on the economic evaluation of the approach in terms of its efficiency and cost effectiveness. Some studies suggest that the environmental standards mandated by governments are hard to be set at an efficient level because of legislative constraints, imperfect information, regional differences and non uniformity of pollutants. Another issue with CAC is associated with enforcement problems such as costs of monitoring and administration. For the reasons mentioned above, new approach has been recommended by many economists. The new policy is called Economic Instrument (EI) which provides incentives to companies or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Orwell, also author of nineteen eighty four, first published Animal Farm on August 19, 1945. Orwell uses simple and easy to understand style while writes his novel as a political allegory,or story with a hidden meaning. He strategically wrote the farm tale, Animal Farm, as a satire of the russian revolution. The South was agricultural, with mostly farms and plantations. The North paid their labor workers. The South used slaves. Not only did their opposing views on slavery and the separation of the two cultures, tensions arose that eventually led to one of the most gruesome wars in history. These Southern authors believed that the North s anti slavery movement was a ploy for economic prosperity. I think there s the sense that when you begin questioning basic distinctions, such as the distinction between being male and being female, it represents a threat to the social order. Andrew Solomon. When it comes to order Geoffrey Chaucer has an interesting way of portraying the essence of order throughout The Canterbury Tales. His characters seem to follow the social order at first glance, but as we look further into the tales we see just how out of line these characters are. Even the character that is Chaucer is blind to the twistedness of his fellow passengers. Chaucer only sees the good in his travel companions, not the hidden upheaval of the social order that was so strictly in place. Through discussion it was said how the social class was the foundation of everyday life during the Middle Ages. The idea of Social class was a huge part in determining the role one would hold in the lives of medieval people. When a person of the times would look at the aristocracy class and compare those people to the less than desirable lower class, the two were habitually regarded by society as virtually different races. Fate of an unpatriotic: most hatred is the fate of an unpatriotic. A man without patriotism cannot be called a man in the truest sense of the term. He is worse than a beast. He is said to be a man with a dead soul. Sir Walter Scott says, Breathes there the man with soul so dead, Who has never to himself hath said this is my own, my native land. He is looked down upon by one and all in the society. He lives a miserable life and dies and ignoble death. He dies unwept, un honored and unsung. But based on this argument it would be morally wrong to eat a corpse if there were no living persons who had an interest in the preservation of that corpse. Here, the cannibalistic act of Aghori Sadhus found in India can be justified because they do not kill or murder any person but meditates and eats dead bodies that are found near the cremation grounds. It is their belief that if they accept what has been rejected by others, they are on their path of salvation. The third argument is that even if the corpse doesn t have a family, all human beings should have an interest in the prevention of cannibalism because many belief that the society that permits the consumption of human flesh produces more unhappiness and one would not want to live in such a society. • 44. Single Blind Experiment If I were a psychologist trying to determine if this claim is valid, I would set up a single blind experiment to see if the aroma of jasmine could help reduce depression. During the single blind experiment, the participants would know I am trying to reduce depression, but would not know which scents I am testing. The first step would be to step up a hypothesis.
